Going for a river cruise can be one of the most memorable experiences that a person can get. However adequate preparation is required for people who want to go on a river cruise. The river cruise can offer some bad experiences if one specially a first timer in river cruise excursions does not do his or her homework well. For people who have had river excursions over a number of times anticipation of possible problems is not hard. Thus repeat excursions offer the required experience to deal with any problems that can arise during the excursion.

For first timers the experience on how to deal with problems could be lacking, but there are a few tips which can assist them to overcome some of the most common problems that arise during river cruise excursions. There following tips if incorporated during the preparations phase by first timers then they can be able to get the best out of the excursions.

Pack the right clothes

Depending on when you want to go for your river cruise ensure that you carry the right kind of clothes for the weather. For instance if want to go for a cruise during the summer then you should make sure that you have light clothes packed in your bag. Additional carry some decent clothes that you can dress in for an official dinner such as tuxedos. This is because most river cruise ships arrange for formal dinners for their customers. It is also good to have some warm clothing safely packed in your bag as well because you never know when the weather might change.

Carry your passport

People are often weary of carrying their passports. This is usually as a result of fear that arises from the fact that most of the people don’t know that the cruise ships have safes on board that can be used to store customers’ valuables. The passport might come in handy when the ship happens to sail to foreign waters.

Tip the cruise ship crew

Some of the cruise ships provide a daily tip fee that is supposed to be paid to the crew, however if your ship does not automatically charge you the fee then you can tip the crew. This will ensure a good atmosphere is created for the cruise. For a truly great river cruise experience, one also needs to deal with the possibilities of getting sea sick.

PADDLEWHEEL RIVERBOATS FOR RIVER EXCURSIONS Using paddlewheel riverboats for an excursion trip in a river should provide any fun loving individual an authentic feel of the 19th century. The two basic types of paddle wheelers are the side wheeler and the stern wheeler. The side wheeler is a paddlewheel riverboat that has the paddle wheels mounted on both sides of the ship, while the stern wheeler has the paddle wheel on the rear.

Any of the two types of paddlewheel riverboats should be able to provide any person who wishes to tour the rivers around his or her country with the best possible way to do it. The paddlewheel riverboats are able to provide tourists with an ideal sightseeing vehicle that can be able to maneuver any of the rivers. However most of the modern day paddlewheel riverboats make use diesel to power them.

But for most people who want to go for excursions using the paddle steamer then adequate preparations need to be done in advance. The ideal preparations should include packing of the right items that are needed for the trip. With all the supplies that a person might need while at sea (in the river) the excursion should be a good experience.

Most cruise expeditions that involve the use of the paddlewheel riverboats require that people get to take their trips with some breaks in between. Even for those who have been to sea on several occasions it is possible for them to get sea sick. These breaks somehow help to deal with sea sickness. However there is a need for people to ensure that they carry some pills that can be used to control such an occurrence.

Ideally if you get to enjoy your excursion trip using the paddle steamer then you should do the most honorable thing in such a case, ensure that the crew of the ship are also happy by providing them with good tips. This will surely help to boost their morale and ensure that they serve you better. You can never go wrong with a good tip to any of the crew.

If you have never been on a trip in a river then you might get to marvel at the sights that you will be able to see. They are often breathtaking to say the least. For most paddlewheel riverboats the speed at which the cruise is to be done can be adjusted to allow for picture taking.

The Bama Belle is a riverboat attraction docked at Medeiros Point on the Black Warrior River at 1 Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa . Operating intermittently since 2001 as the first attraction along the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk , the Bama Belle offers sightseeing tours and can be rented for private events.

The 90-foot, 54-ton riverboat was originally constructed in 1969 by the Dubuque Boat & Boiler Company in Dubuque, Iowa. Prior to coming to Tuscaloosa, the riverboat was utilized at Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee and known as the Captain Ann and later moved to Destin, Florida, and known as the Emerald Queen . The boat was brought to Tuscaloosa by Mike and Nikki Medeiros , and opened in September 2001 as the Bama Belle after being redocumented and recertified by the United States Coast Guard. It can hold up to 149 passengers.

Both Mike and Nikki Medeiros served as captains of the boat through December 2005 when Mike was killed in a car accident. After remaining closed for over a month and a half, the Belle resumed service with Tiffany Maxwell and John Gray serving as captains in late January 2006 . The following year, the Tuscaloosa City Council officially named the boat landing where the boat is moored "Medeiros Point" in honor of Mike Medeiros. In July 2009 , Nikki Medeiros sold the operation to Sandi Wyatt who continued to operate the attraction until June 2012 when coolant leaks caused an engine failure.

Craig Dodson of Jasper purchased the Bama Belle in 2015 . He made repairs and resumed regular public cruises in February 2017 . In 2019 Dodson put the riverboat up for sale.

Bama Belle for sale, cruises and events still offered — for now

Craig Dodson, seen in front of the Bama Belle in this photo from December 2016, said he is putting the riverboat up for sale. The Jasper-area businessman purchased the Bama Belle in 2015 and began offering cruises the following year. [Staff file photo/Gary Cosby Jr.]

The Bama Belle riverboat is up for sale.

Owner and Bama Belle captain Craig Dodson, who purchased the boat in 2015 and returned her to operating on the Black Warrior River, said the boat is in good condition and runs just fine.

“I just want to do something else,” he said.

As the sale efforts are ongoing, Dodson said he would continue to offer private bookings — some are scheduled into October, he said — and some limited public cruises. Details on these $20-per-person trips can be found at the Bama Belle website .

And on Aug. 1, the Bama Belle will host two waterkeepers as the Black Warrior Riverkeeper and Hurricane Creekkeeper share a fundraising cruise on the Black Warrior River. Tickets are on sale for $40 each. The three-hour event, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include dinner, live music and a complimentary sampling of local beers from Druid City Brewing Co.

But for Dodson, he said he’s fulfilled his part of the Bama Belle’s history.

“I kind of met the goals I had with it,” Dodson said.

Dodson declined to publicly name a sale price, but he said he would prefer the boat to remain in Tuscaloosa and is hopeful a local investor will make an offer.

But if the boat has not sold by September, Dodson said he would list it with a national broker.

“I really do want it to stay in Tuscaloosa,” he said.

Prospective buyers can reach Dodson via the Bama Belle’s website , Facebook page or telephone at 205-275-0560.

The Bama Belle was built in 1969 in the Mississippi River town of Dubuque, Iowa, and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard to carry up to 150 passengers plus crew.

The boat originally was christened the Captain Ann and later was renamed the Emerald Queen and based in Destin, Florida.

In 2001, Mike and Nikki Medeiros bought the boat, renamed it the Bama Belle and brought it to Tuscaloosa.

Mike Medeiros died in 2005, and his family sold the boat a few years later.

It stopped offering cruises in June 2012 after holes developed in the engine cooling systems’ coolers on the bottom of the boat, causing an engine to fail, and sat in various stages of disrepair ever since.

Tuscaloosa resident Thad Garner purchased the boat in February 2013, but never completed enough repairs to return it to offering cruises, and because the boat stayed at docks owned by the city of Tuscaloosa, the City Council repeatedly requested status updates from Garner on when the boat would be ready for use .

After years of this cycle, the City Council was set give the Office of the City Attorney the authority to seek a court’s intervention to force the boat’s removal from the city-owned docks.

That’s when Dodson, a businessman from the Jasper area, stepped in.

Garner sold the boat to Dodson in November 2015, who set about making extensive repairs — including taking the boat to Mobile for repairs to the underside — and returned the 90-foot, 54-ton paddle-wheel riverboat to seaworthiness by December 2016.

He considered selling the Bama Belle last year, but opted instead to give it one more go. He also began hosting bar hours on the boat during the week, when the Belle wasn’t sailing.

But now, Dodson has decided to sell it for good.

“It was fun,” he said. “I had a great time with it.”

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

attractions elektrostal photo

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.

sights of the electric steel of the Moscow region

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrostal attractions photo with description

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Elektrostal attractions

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

attractions of the city of Elektrostal

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Elektrostal attractions

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.
