Embrace Your Dark Side…

If you want people to listen to you, a whisper can be louder than a shout. That’s the idea here: If you want to stand out in a world full of chrome and bright colors, maybe more chrome isn’t the answer. Maybe less is. Take one look at the Honda Shadow Phantom and you’re going to know that’s true. The Phantom is for riders who want a great bike, who love to ride and who want to make a powerful statement. Its blacked-out 745cc V-twin engine, black rims with matte silver highlights, bobbed fenders, spoked wheels and beefy front fork all set it apart from most of the other customs on the road. The V-twin engine’s throaty exhaust sounds just right. And the Phantom’s slightly more upright seating position is just right for both longer rides and boulevard cruising. Best of all? That has to be the Phantom’s low price tag. It’s time to go over to the dark side—in style, on a Honda Phantom.

Take a Ride on the Honda Side

Who says that cruisers put style before function? Not a Honda Shadow Phantom. Here’s a bike that is a knockout in terms of style, that’s a fact. But underneath that dark look and the tasteful chrome accents, the Phantom is all Honda. With its torque-rich 745cc V-twin engine featuring the sophisticated ease of Programmed Fuel Injection and three-valve/dual-plug combustion chamber construction serving up heaps of low-, mid- and top-end muscle, the very affordably priced Shadow Phantom is going to be the right bike for hundreds of lucky riders.

With authentic bobber styling and a pure, minimalist spirit, the VT750 Black Spirit is a perfectly turned-out celebration of an iconic style and culture. From its bobbed tail to its assertive front wheel, every contour is carefully styled. Its bold, kicked-out forks and raised handlebars provide the point of focus from which it leans back into a long, tapered tank. It only comes in one distinctive colour, a striking Graphite Black which is highlighted by a number of exclusive trims and details. As well as the fenders, tank and seat, the short, semi-drag-style handlebars, tail-light, headlight, air cleaner cover and rear shocks are also black. The centrepiece is an eye-catching, black-painted engine with cast-in fins that give it a traditional air-cooled look. Riding the VT750C Black Spirit is a stirring experience, and its aggressive attitude and streetwise confidence create its own authority on the street.

There’s No Substitute for V-Twin Power

The Shadow Phantom’s 745cc V-twin engine features Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), ensuring easy cold-weather starting and seamless, all-condition fuel delivery.

The Phantom Look

Black engine, frame, rims and handlebar—all ever-so-perfectly accented with matte silver highlights—that’s the Phantom’s trademark look. It’s a machine everyone is going to take seriously.

Engineered for the Long Run

The Phantom’s durable and virtually maintenance-free shaft final drive ensures smooth, dependable power delivery to the asphalt. No hassles, no grease flying everywhere. Just smooth, quiet power transfer.

2015 Honda Shadow Phantom VT750C2B www.Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

Spoked Wheels

Spoked black wheels and hubs feature a 120/90-17 front tire and 160/80-15 rear tire to complete the overall custom look.

Shorty Front Fender

Minimalist front fender gives the Shadow Phantom a lighter, cleaner, more progressive look.

Front-Disc Brake

If there’s one place you DON’T want retro performance, it’s your brakes. That’s why we gave the Shadow Phantom a 296mm front disc for distinctly modern stopping power.

Stylish Finish

Bobber-inspired styling with extensive blacked-out and matte finishes.

Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI)

Forget about fiddling with a choke—the Shadow’s fuel injection system means no-hassle startups on cold mornings or at high altitudes, and optimal performance in any condition.

V-Twin Engine

Nothing pumps out the torque like a big V-twin. The Phantom’s power makes it perfect for both around-town cruising, commutes and casual weekend-long rides.

Five-Speed Transmission

Wide-ratio five-speed transmission lets you cruise the boulevard at a low, unhurried pace, yet allows you hop on the highway without revving the engine through the roof.

Low Seat Height

Skimming the pavement at just 25.7 inches, the Phantom’s low seat height makes flat-footing it at stoplights or in parking lots a breeze. And the Phantom’s narrow seat/tank junction makes it feel even lower.

Gunfighter Saddle

Sleek, one-piece gunfighter-type seat is comfortable and looks great too.

2-into-2 Exhaust System

Sleek pipes feature bullet-style mufflers for that classic cruiser style of yesteryear. Large-diameter head pipes and 2-into-2 system design combine to put out true, V-twin cruiser sound.

There’s No Substitute for V-Twin Power – The Shadow Phantom’s 745cc V-twin engine features Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), ensuring easy cold-weather starting and seamless, all-condition fuel delivery.

The Phantom Look – Black engine, frame, rims and handlebar—all ever-so-perfectly accented with matte silver highlights—that’s the Phantom’s trademark look. It’s a machine everyone is going to take seriously.

Engineered for the Long Run – The Phantom’s durable and virtually maintenance-free shaft final drive ensures smooth, dependable power delivery to the asphalt. No hassles, no grease flying everywhere. Just smooth, quiet power transfer.

In 2007 Honda launched the popular VT750C2 Shadow. Based on the VT750 Shadow, it took similar design cues from classic cruiser tradition. However, the VT750C2 Shadow Phantom took the concept a step further with more traditional street rod styling, a leaner, meaner profile and a riding position that submerged the rider deep down in the bike for a full experience of the engine’s power. A new PGM-FI fuel injection system intensified the ride while improving fuel efficiency and emissions, and a large 17″ front wheel gave it an unmistakable presence on the street.

In 2010 Honda proudly introduced the Phantom, an intense variation on the Shadow Spirit theme with authentic bobber styling and a pure, minimalistic spirit. In one basic color, its bold character made its beefy performance and easy ownership all the more pleasurable. In 2012 a new matte black metallic version reaffirms its distinctive styling and street presence.

Honda Shadow Phantom 750 Review / Specs - Cruiser Motorcycle V-Twin Engine - VT750C2B

Development concept

The Shadow Phantom is based around a low, triangular profile that places the rider in the middle of the ride, and is accentuated with exclusive styling details. Proven technologies ease handling and usability, and deliver a highly involving yet relaxed ride. The fuel injection system is tuned for smooth, responsive control, allowing riders to enjoy the engine’s power. The maintenance-free shaft drive and reliable liquid-cooled engine mean stress-free ownership.

Riding the Phantom is a stirring experience, and its aggressive attitude and streetwise confidence create their own authority on the street.

The power at the heart of the VT750C2B Shadow Phantom is supplied by the same 750cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine used in the VT750C2 Shadow. Its delivery is tuned for deep, rumbling pulses of power and torque. Accessibility and dependability are also essential to the VT750C2B experience, and the fuel injection system has been developed for quick throttle response and maximum fuel economy.

The liquid-cooled 52° V-twin engine powering the Shadow Phantom is a time-proven standard of Honda excellence, essentially the same configuration that provides strong, dependable power to all our 750cc V-twin cruisers. Its compact shape allows the frame’s central backbone to be lowered, facilitating the cruiser’s long-and-low profile. The engine features a long-stroke, single-pin crankshaft configuration and optimal mass to enhance the feel of its low rpm torque peak. Efficient combustion and instant power thrusts are provided by SOHC three-valve cylinder heads with dual spark plugs, while close-ratio transmission delivers strong, exhilarating acceleration from anywhere in the engine’s power range. The sensation of strong, direct power delivery to the rear wheel is down to the machine’s enclosed shaft final drive. Requiring only minimal maintenance, the shaft drive operates smoothly and quietly while enhancing the feel of the engine’s power.

The VT750C2B Phantom is equipped with a highly developed Honda PGM-FI fuel injection system, featuring an idle air control valve which precisely controls incoming air for smooth idling operation. The system ensures easy starting, instant throttle response and smooth, satisfying thrusts of acceleration. With accurate fuel flow monitoring, efficiency is also optimized, keeping both emissions and fuel consumption low.

The impressive exhaust pipes that accentuate the length of the Phantom chassis are more than just a visual accent on its street rod styling. They also pump out an exhilarating sound that combines with the throbbing feel of the engine to create an exciting ride sensation.

Each exhaust pipe is fitted with an oxygen sensor that feeds data to the fuel injection system’s ECU and a HECS3 (Honda Evolutional Catalyser System) low emissions system. This strictly regulates exhaust gases while still maintaining the engine’s capable performance and thrilling sound.

For its design inspiration the Phantom went back to its custom roots. Its clipped rear fender, triangulated profile and thumping engine acknowledge a heritage that reaches back for decades.

To true custom bike aficionados, style is important and any lapse in attention to detail is unforgivable. The Shadow Phantom is a perfectly turned-out celebration of an iconic style and culture. From its bobbed tail to its assertive front wheel, every contour is carefully styled. Its bold, kicked-out forks and raised handlebars provide the point of focus from which it leans back into a long, tapered tank.

The instrument panel is placed on top of the tank. It features a large, easily readable speedometer dial, a compact assembly of practical gauges and indicator lights and an eye-catching silver-painted cover. The seat is easily the lowest in the 750cc cruiser class and creates a deep riding position that allows an easy reach to the grips and a laid-back cruiser feel.

The engine’s power is contained in a slim, lightweight and rigid double-cradle steel frame that is both responsive and easy to handle. A large-diameter single tube backbone and pressed steel pivot plates combine in a low overall chassis height, allowing for low tank and seat positioning. The seat rails and chopped rear fender are supported by a cast sub-frame. The frame design is an important contributor to the sensational ride quality, transmitting enough primary vibration to maximize enjoyment of the engine’s performance without allowing it to become uncomfortable.

The extended 41mm front fork and 17″ front wheel create a remarkably responsive and comfortable package. On the left side, the shaft drive is integrated with the swingarm adding to the clean and simple look. The exposed rear shock absorbers are tilted forward, providing progressive damping and a comfortable ride with precise control. A fat 160mm rear tire emphasizes the sporty custom styling as well as adding to comfort. The powerful brakes perform with smooth efficiency. A large-diameter 296mm front disc with a responsive dual-piston caliper is paired with a conventional 180mm leading/trailing drum brake at the rear.

10 Things You Should Know About The Honda Shadow 750

T he Honda Shadow 750 is a timeless classic that has won over motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide. The Shadow is ideal for both beginners learning the ropes and experienced riders wanting a perfect local ride. It's been a key part of Honda's motorcycle lineup for 40 years now.

The Shadow 750 epitomizes what Honda is all about: approachability, toughness, and dependability, with a healthy dash of nostalgia. A lot of folks started out on this motorcycle. It was a trailblazer when it first came out, and now, as a grizzled veteran, it continues to inspire the next generation of motorcyclists.

You could not make a list of the most influential motorcycles in history and leave the Honda Shadow 750 out. It doesn't brag about blistering performance or cutting-edge technology, yet this age-old cruiser is the first love of many gearheads.

When you ride a Honda Shadow, you know what you're getting: comfort, superior handling, decent performance, and classic cruiser esthetics at an affordable price.

In a market where most affordable motorcycles for beginners lean towards sport and dirt bikes, the Honda Shadow offers a dependable cruiser option for those seeking a laid-back ride around town. There is no need for flashy wheelies; just grab your helmet and keys and hit the open road. That's all there is to it.

Let's dive into the ten essential things you need to know about the Honda Shadow 750: its performance, design, and lasting popularity.

The information for this article was sourced from TopSpeed, Honda, MotorcycleSpecs, and Motorcyclist. All the quotes have been taken from CycleWorld's First Ride Review.

Here Are The Best Honda Bikes Of All Time

Great for beginners.

The Honda Shadow is the go-to choice for beginner riders because it ticks all the boxes: style, comfort, handling, affordability, power, and performance. It embodies the dreamy, low-profile cruiser without breaking the bank. While there are other good starter options like the Harley-Davidson Iron 883, Honda Rebel 500, and Kawasaki Vulcan, many opt for the Honda Shadow for its easy handling, 745cc engine, and a 3.9-gallon fuel tank—everything needed for a starting motorcyclist.

Whether navigating city streets or winding through scenic highways, the Honda Shadow 750 shines in the handling department. According to CycleWorld ,

"The Shadow Phantom is light steering with excellent and balanced low-speed handling."

However, there's one drawback—it weighs 500 pounds. Although typical for a full-size cruiser, it's too heavy for a novice. While a new rider may manage to straddle the seat and touch the ground if the bike falls over, it'll be painful, and getting it back up might be a challenge.

Riding Dynamics Are Tuned To Be Breezy

With a manageable weight and a low center of gravity, the Shadow 750 ought to be a joy to handle in various riding conditions.

"The suspension is plush and offers a cushy ride, eating up bad asphalt with no issues."

Built for relaxed cruising, the bike surprisingly easily handles dense urban areas. Maintaining control is crucial for beginner riders, and the Shadow's 41mm front forks provide ample turning radius.

Easy On The Wallet

Price is always an issue when trying to get your first wheels. The 2024 Honda Shadow is a solid cruiser with a base MSRP well below $10k . Pre-owned Honda Shadows also make for great deals.

The Honda Shadow 750 is also surprisingly fuel-efficient. The thoughtful engineering behind the motorcycle ensures that riders can cover long distances without constantly worrying about fuel stops. Whether commuting through the city or embarking on an extended road trip, the Shadow 750 is a practical choice.

Other budget-friendly options like the Honda CB500, Yamaha YZF-R3, and Suzuki SV650 exist, but none capture the classic, old-school cruiser look that many have come to adore. So, if you're on a budget but still want to ride a cool bike, the Honda Shadow is the way to go.

At the core of the Honda Shadow 750 is a powerful engine . The V-twin engine configuration delivers 745cc of displacement. Motorcycle riding is already nerve-wracking, and the last thing a beginner wants is a bike so powerful that it feels uncontrollable.

"Performance from the 745cc V-twin is good, with decent low-end to midrange torque on tap. Around town and exiting tight corners, the engine provides good drive...the engine is smooth, with excellent fueling and a good spread of power for a middleweight cruiser."

The Honda Shadow's engine generates a maximum of 44.9 horsepower and 47.9 lb-ft of torque. This power output is just right for a new rider—enough to get comfortable and a bit extra when needed.

Honda Shadow 750 Design: A Cruiser With Many Faces

Like many popular motorcycle models, the Honda Shadow has been reworked, re-modeled, and re-made. Over its 40-year career, this cruiser has showcased an impressive array of looks.

The Honda Shadow Spirit offered a slightly leaner version with a factory chopper style . The Shadow RS took a more café racer approach. From 2008 to 2009, the Shadow Tourer was designed for longer highway rides, featuring a windshield, saddlebag, additional passenger seat, and backrest. It's safe to say the Honda Shadow has worn many hats since its inception.

Moreover, one of the most enticing aspects of owning a Honda Shadow 750 is the plethora of customization options available. Riders can personalize their motorcycles with a range of aftermarket accessories. From custom exhaust systems to handlebar upgrades and paint schemes, the Shadow 750 provides a canvas for riders to transform their bikes into unique, one-of-a-kind machines.

For 2024, Honda has introduced the Shadow Phantom and Shadow Aero.

Dependable And Versatile

The Honda Shadow's reputation attracts newer riders and garners praise from seasoned ones who fondly reminisce about their beginnings on the back of a Shadow 750. The Shadow 750 rarely breaks down , can be serviced in a jiffy, and its spare parts are easy to find.

Additionally, a well-engineered chassis enhances the motorcycle's stability, which inspires confidence in the rider. Investing in a motorcycle is not just about the thrill of the ride; it's also a financial consideration. The Honda Shadow 750 also excels in this aspect, with a reputation for excellent resale value and longevity.

Timeless Design And Style

First introduced in the 1980s, the Shadow cruiser's classic design pays homage to the golden era of motorcycles, featuring a low-slung profile and teardrop-shaped fuel tank. In the days of yesteryear, we often pictured ourselves on a specific type of bike, and for many, that dream involved a Harley-Davidson. However, lacking deep enough pockets to buy one at the time, the Honda Shadow became a fitting substitute.

Adorned in chrome (although the 2024 model is now blacked out), featuring a low-profile seat, forward controls, and a muscular design, the Shadow served as a stand-in to fulfill your fantasies. This bike will stand by your side until you've gained enough confidence (and saved up a down payment) for that Harley.

2024 Honda Shadow Phantom 750 Design Features

  • V-Twin engine configuration
  • Low-slung profile
  • Contoured seat
  • High handlebar placement
  • Round headlight
  • Teardrop-shaped fuel tank

10 Iconic Honda Motorcycles We Would Love To Ride

Ergonomics on point.

Comfort is a crucial factor that many new riders may not immediately appreciate. Like many cruisers, the Honda Shadow prioritizes rider comfort , ensuring they stay happy and relaxed during long periods on the road. The handlebar placement promotes a natural and stress-free posture.

"The seat is firm enough to provide good support for the lower back, but comfortable enough for longer stints. The low seat height should provide solid footing at stops for all but the most height-challenged riders."

Its design prepares new riders to have the right expectations from the cruiser—a size that provides comfort on the highway while remaining light enough for backroad journeys.

2024 Honda Shadow Phantom Notable Features

  • Bobber-style look
  • New rear brake disc
  • Optional front and rear ABS
  • New LED lighting
  • Redesigned front end

Bang For Buck Thrills

The Honda Shadow boasts a powerful 745cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine. Its three-valve combustion chambers, featuring two intake valves and one exhaust, ensure ample breathability, optimizing horsepower and torque.

With a five-speed transmission, this bike can reach commendable top speeds. While the top speed figure of the latest Honda Shadow hasn't been disclosed, we do know that the 2010 Shadow Phantom VT750 model had a top speed of 107 mph and could do 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds. For stopping power, it's equipped with a reliable braking system—296mm front and 269mm rear single-disc brakes—and newer models even come with the option of ABS.

The suspension system includes dual shocks with a five-position spring preload, offering 3.5 inches of travel that can be adjusted for a personalized riding experience.

Legacy For Posterity

While the Honda Shadow 750 pays homage to classic design principles, it is not devoid of modern technology. The motorcycle is equipped with advanced braking systems and modern instrumentation.

It's not common for motorcycle models to have a long lifespan, with many lasting only a few years before being discontinued. However, the Honda Shadow stands out as an exception, remaining in production for four impressive decades.

This longevity isn't just a stroke of luck; it's a testament to the Shadow's status as one of the most trusted starter motorcycles in the market. There's no reason for Honda to retire this enduring model anytime soon, either.

The levels of specific activity of 137 Cs and the contents of mobile forms (1 M ammonium acetate extraction) of heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, Cr, Pb) and petroleum products were studied in the upper soil horizon of urban landscapes of the city of Elektrostal under conditions of local radioactive and chemical contamination were studied. In the soils within a short radius (0–100 m) around the heavy engineering plant, the specific activity of 137 Cs and the contents of mobile forms of Pb, Cu, and Zn were increased. The lognormal distribution law of 137 Cs was found in the upper (0–10 cm) soil layer; five years after the radiation accident, the specific activity of 137 Cs varied from 6 to 4238 Bq/kg. The coefficients of variation increased with an increase in the degree of soil contamination in the following sequence: Co < Ni < petroleum products < Cr < 137 Cs < Zn < Pb < Cu ranging from 50 to 435%. Statistically significant direct correlation was found between the specific activity of 137 Cs and the contents of mobile forms of Pb, Cu, and Zn in the upper horizon of urban soils, and this fact indicated the spatial conjugacy of local spots of radioactive and polymetallic contamination in the studied area. It was shown that the specific activity of 137 Cs, as well as the content of heavy metals and petroleum products in the upper layer (0–10 cm) of the soils disturbed in the course of decontamination, earthwork and reclamation is reduced.

INTRODUCTION

Contaminants migrate and accumulate in urban ecosystems under the impact of both natural and technogenic factors. The processes of technogenic migration of 137 Cs are most pronounced in radioactively contaminated territories. It was found in urboecological studies that the intensity of sedimentation of aerosol particles containing radionuclides and heavy metals is determined by the types of the surfaces of roofs, walls, roads, lawns, and parks and by their position within the urban wind field [ 12 , 26 ]. Traffic in the cities results in significant transport of dust and associated contaminants and radionuclides [ 15 , 24 ]. During decontamination measures in the areas of Chernobyl radioactive trace, not only the decrease in the level of contamination but also the possibility of secondary radioactive contamination because of the transportation of contaminated soil particles by wind or water, or anthropogenic transfer of transferring of ground were observed [ 5 , 6 ]. Rainstorm runoff and hydrological transport of dissolved and colloidal forms of 137 Cs can result in the accumulation of this radionuclide in meso- and microdepressions, where sedimentation takes place [ 10 , 16 ]. Different spatial distribution patterns of 137 Cs in soils of particular urban landscapes were found in the city of Ozersk near the nuclear fuel cycle works [ 17 ]. Natural character of 137 Cs migration in soils of Moscow forest-parks and a decrease in its specific activity in industrial areas have been revealed [ 10 ]. Determination of the mean level and parameters of spatial variations of 137 Cs in soils is one of primary tasks of radioecological monitoring of cities, including both unpolluted (background) and contaminated territories.

Emissions and discharges from numerous sources of contamination can cause the accumulation of a wide range of toxicants in urban soils: heavy metals (HMs), oil products (OPs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and other chemical substances. Soil contamination by several groups of toxicants is often observed in urban landscapes [ 20 , 23 ] because of the common contamination source or close pathways of the migration of different contaminants. A comprehensive analysis of contamination of urban soils by radionuclides and heavy metals has been performed in some studies [ 21 , 25 ]. The determination of possible spatial interrelationships between radioactive and chemical contaminations in urban soils is an important problem in urban ecology.

A radiation accident took place in the Elektrostal heavy engineering works (EHEW) in April 2013: a capacious source of 137 Cs entered the smelt furnace, and emission of radioactive aerosols from the aerating duct into the urban environment took place. The activity of molten source was estimated at about 1000–7000 Ci [ 14 ]. The area of contamination in the territory of the plant reached 7500 m 2 . However, radioactive aerosols affected a much larger area around the EHEW, including Krasnaya and Pervomaiskaya streets, and reached Lenin Prospect.

Geochemical evaluation of contamination of the upper soil horizon in the city of Elektrostal was carried out in 1989–1991. This survey indicated the anomalies of concentrations of wolfram, nickel, molybdenum, chromium, and other heavy metals related to accumulation of alloying constituent and impurities of non-ferrous metals in the emissions of steelmaking works [ 19 ].

The aim of our work was to determine the levels of specific activity of 137 Cs, concentrations of mobile forms of heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Ni, Co, Cr, and Pb) and oil products in the upper soil horizons in different urban landscapes of the city of Elektrostal under the conditions of local radioactive and chemical contamination.

TVEL Fuel Company of ROSATOM has started gradual localization of rare-earth magnets manufacturing for wind power plants generators. The first sets of magnets have been manufactured and shipped to the customer.

In total, the contract between Elemash Magnit LLC (an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company of ROSATOM in Elektrostal, Moscow region) and Red Wind B.V. (a joint venture of NovaWind JSC and the Dutch company Lagerwey) foresees manufacturing and supply over 200 sets of magnets. One set is designed to produce one power generator.

“The project includes gradual localization of magnets manufacturing in Russia, decreasing dependence on imports. We consider production of magnets as a promising sector for TVEL’s metallurgical business development. In this regard, our company does have the relevant research and technological expertise for creation of Russia’s first large-scale full cycle production of permanent rare-earth magnets,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

“NovaWind, as the nuclear industry integrator for wind power projects, not only made-up an efficient supply chain, but also contributed to the development of inter-divisional cooperation and new expertise of ROSATOM enterprises. TVEL has mastered a unique technology for the production of magnets for wind turbine generators. These technologies will be undoubtedly in demand in other areas as well,” noted Alexander Korchagin, Director General of NovaWind JSC.

  1. What oil for Phantom

For average weather cool to warm days (up to approx 80- 95 ° F) use the 10w-30, if your gonna see days with constant temps over 100 ° F go for the 10w-40. IMHO, until you have clocked up around 5000 miles stay with the semi synthetic, and if you do want to go to fully synthetic do it after this mileage...
