Coming Soon: Everything to Watch on Netflix, HBO Max and Disney+ and in Theaters in November 2021

Time flies, and 2021 is almost over. The good news is that fall movie season is very much underway with lots of big upcoming titles — Eternals is finally here; so are Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the Dwayne Johnson spy movie Red Notice . Some of November’s film releases may have more than a few chances of getting trophy nominations. I’m talking about Belfast , Spencer and King Richard , but if you want to know more about the Oscars don’t miss our story on early predictions and frontrunner contenders .
November is also a great month for watching TV, especially during the long Thanksgiving holiday. John Cho stars in Cowboy Bebop , Hailee Steinfeld doubles in the last season of Dickinson and the new show Hawkeye , and Michael C. Hall returns to his serial killer roots in Dexter: New Blood.
As usual, here’s our selection of new TV shows, returning series, films on streaming and titles you’ll only be able to watch in cinemas. And if you need even more watching suggestions, you can catch up on previously released titles with our recommendation lists for October and September .
Some of November’s Most Anticipated New Shows

The Shrink Next Door (November 12), Apple TV+: Call this your new excuse to watch Kathryn Hahn in action after WandaVision . This eight-episode limited series is inspired by true events and stars Will Ferrell as Marty Markowitz and Hahn as his sister, Phyllis. The series follows Marty as he starts seeing the psychiatrist Ike Herschkopf (Paul Rudd) and details how the relationship evolves into manipulation and exploitation on the doctor’s part.
The Wheel of Time (November 19), Prime Video: Based on Robert Jordan’s fantasy series of books , this eight-episode first season stars Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl ) as Moiraine, a member of the all-women organization Aes Sedai that can channel magic. Moiraine arrives in the small town of Two Rivers and ventures on a journey with five young women and men. According to prophecy, one of them could save humanity — or destroy it.
Cowboy Bebop (November 19), Netflix: It doesn’t get cooler — or sexier — than John Cho ( Star Trek ) garbed in a bespoke double-breasted indigo blue blazer, slim pants and white shirt with the collar up. In this live-action adaptation of the anime series of the same name , Cho plays a space bounty hunter named Spike who joins forces with Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir) and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) to chase solar system criminals for money. The first season of Cowboy Bebop has 10 episodes.
Hawkeye (November 24), Disney+: Set in post-Blip New York City, this new Marvel Cinematic Universe show sees Jeremy Renner returning to his role of former Avenger Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye. In the six-episode series, Barton is prevented from returning to his family for Christmas due to a threat from his past. He’ll reluctantly join forces with the 22-year-old archer Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld).
The Beatles: Get Back (November 25, 26 and 27), Disney+: The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson isn’t famous for his ability to make short films. That’s probably why this started as a documentary feature and morphed into a six-hour docuseries. Get Back takes the audience to January 1969 as the Beatles were writing songs ahead of their first live concert in two years. Jackson drew upon 60 hours of unseen Beatles footage that was shot over 21 days, as well as more than 150 hours of unheard audio.
Must-See Returning TV on Streaming

Dickinson , Season 3 (November 5), Apple TV+: All good things must come to an end, and we’re going to miss seeing Hailee Steinfeld playing poet Emily Dickinson. The 10-episode third and final season of Dickinson — the show has made our list of the best TV in 2021 — will see Emily facing her most productive time as a writer as the country battles the Civil War and her own family is divided.
Dexter: New Blood (November 7), Showtime: Technically this isn’t Dexter season nine but a new and rebooted show. Dexter : New Blood sees Michael C. Hall returning as our favorite serial killer. The show is set 10 years after the events of Dexter’ s finale when he drove his boat into Hurricane Laura. He’s been living under a false name in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York, and rocking the lumberjack look. The 10-episode first season also stars Julia Jones ( The Mandalorian ) as Chief of Police Angela Bishop and Dexter’s girlfriend, Jack Alcott as Dexter ‘s teenage son Harrison, and Jennifer Carpenter returning as Dexter ‘s sister.
Tiger King , Season 2 (November 17), Netflix: When season one of this true-crime docuseries first streamed in March 2020 it became a viral sensation — helped in part by the fact that half the planet was sheltering at home due to the pandemic. Prepare to be entertained by the feline owners again. “Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder, mayhem, and madness. Thought you knew the whole story? Just you wait,” reads Netflix’s synopsis of season two.
Movies on Streaming

The Harder They Fall (November 3), Netflix (in select theaters October 22): Jay-Z produces and Jeymes Samuel co-writes and directs this stylized western starring Regina King, Idris Elba, LaKeith Stanfield, Jonathan Majors, Delroy Lindo and Zazi Beetz. Majors plays Nat Love, an outlaw who makes justice his last name but is set on revenge against Rufus Buck (Elba). When Buck is released from prison by his gang of professional killers, Love only has one objective in mind: killing his longtime enemy.
Finch (November 5), Apple TV+: Call this Cast Away set on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Plus Wilson is now a dog. Tom Hanks plays Finch, a robotics engineer who survives a cataclysmic solar event that leaves Earth uninhabitable. He lives in an underground bunker and creates the robot Jeff (Caleb Landry Jones) to take care of his dog, Goodyear. The three of them embark on a road trip into the American West looking for safety.
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (November 5), Prime Video: This story based on real events has the potential to delight many cat people. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Louis Wain, an extravagant artist who popularized the notion of cats as pets with his illustrations of anthropomorphized felines in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The movie is also a beautiful love story between Wain and his wife, Emily Richardson (Claire Foy), who adopted and named him Peter.
Passing (November 10), Netflix (in select theaters October 27): Actress Rebecca Hall directs and writes this adaptation of Nella Larsen’s novel of the same name . Set in 1929 New York, Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga play two childhood friends who find each other again later in life. They’re two Black women who can pass as white, but one of them has chosen to live as her true self and the other as white. Both actresses could receive Oscar nominations for their roles here.
Red Notice (November 12), Netflix: Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds star in this globe-trotting action-comedy. Johnson plays the FBI’s top profiler John Hartley, someone charged with capturing the world’s most wanted art thief, “The Bishop” (Gal Gadot). He partners with the world’s greatest art thief Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds), and the three of them end up on a cat-and-mouse chase around the world.
King Richard (November 19), HBO Max and theaters: Will Smith vies for yet another Oscar nomination with this story directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green where Smith plays Richard Williams, Venus and Serena Williams’ dad. The movie depicts teenage Venus and Serena as they train on abandoned tennis courts in Compton, California, guided by the vision and a 78-page plan their father follows. He’s determined to have his daughters make history.
tick, tick… BOOM! (November 19), Netflix (in select theaters November 12): Prolific playwright and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda makes his feature directorial debut with this adaptation of the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the creator of Rent . The film is set in New York in 1990 when Jon (Andrew Garfield) is juggling his work as a waiter in a diner with that of a theater composer hoping to write the next great American musical.
Bruised (November 24), Netflix: You may get Million Dollar Baby vibes from this film starring and helmed by Halle Berry, making her directorial debut. In Bruised Berry plays Jackie Justice, a mixed martial arts fighter forced to leave the sport. Misguided by her manager and boyfriend (Adan Canto), she ends up in the underground fight circuit and is promised a new way into the fight league by a promoter who sees her talent. Jackie will also have to confront her past when her biological son (Danny Boyd, Jr.) shows up in her life.
And a Few Movies You’ll Only Be Able to Watch in Theaters

Eternals (November 5): Marvel’s latest big cinematic spectacle is directed by the Oscar-winning Chloé Zhao and stars Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry and the Game of Thrones alums Kit Harington and Richard Madden. You can read our full review of this story about a group of immortal superheroes who’ve been calling Earth home for thousands of years and protecting humans from the villainous Deviants.
Spencer (November 5): If you enjoyed season four of The Crown or if you were a fan of Pablo Larraín’s Jackie , with Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy, you’ll want to check out Spencer . Kristen Stewart stars as Princess Diana and has pretty much secured an Oscar nomination. As he did with Jackie , Larraín doesn’t make conventional biopics but focuses on very particular moments in his characters’ lives. Spencer follows a Christmas celebration at the Queen’s estate in Sandringham where the full royal family gathers and when Diana and Charles’ (Jack Farthing) marriage has already imploded.
Belfast (November 12): This could be one of the big titles in terms of Oscars nominations this year. Written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, Belfast is set in Branagh’s hometown and based on his own experiences growing up in Northern Ireland during the late 1960s. The black and white film stars Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Ciarán Hinds, Caitríona Balfe and the 10-year-old Jude Hill.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (November 19): Paul Rudd and Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things star in this new chapter from the original Ghostbusters universe. The movie is co-written and directed by Jason Reitman ( Up in the Air ), who happens to be the son of the director of the first and second Ghostbusters flicks, Ivan Reitman. Ivan Reitman also produces.
House of Gucci (November 24): After The Last Duel — which we liked a lot —, here comes Ridley Scott’s second big movie this year. Inspired by the true story of the family behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci, the film stars Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, Al Pacino and Lady Gaga speaking in delightful Italian-accented English. The story follows the murder of Maurizio Gucci (Driver), head of Gucci. Gaga plays his wife, Patrizia Reggiani.
Licorice Pizza (November 26): Paul Thomas Anderson does a coming-of-age story in this movie set in the San Fernando Valley, California, in 1973. The film stars Alana Kane (Alana Haim) and Gary Valentine (Cooper Hoffman) as they fall in love. The film also features Bradley Cooper and Anderson’s real-life partner, Maya Rudolph.

- Trivia The working title for this film was "Firehouse" after the Ghostbusters firehouse. In previous films, the exterior shots of the firehouse were filmed at Hook & Ladder 8 in the Tribeca (Triangle Below Canal Street) neighborhood of Lower Manhattan in New York City. After filming was finished on Ghostbusters II (1989) , the firehouse kept half of the Ghostbusters II sign that hung outside. It was regularly displayed on holidays, particularly Halloween. Eventually, it was permanently moved inside, after a successful GoFundMe campaign by fans of the movie in June 2021, which funded a full-scale replica of the Ghostbusters sign. This sign now hangs outside of the firehouse year-round. The GoFundMe campaign is now an annual fundraiser for the firehouse and a celebration is held there on Ghostbusters Day each year.

Ghostbusters 4 release date, cast and all you need to know about Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2
Who are you gonna call THIS TIME?!

Ghostbusters 4 cast: Who will return for Ghostbusters Afterlife 2?
Ghostbusters 4 plot: what will ghostbusters afterlife 2 be about, ghostbusters 4 trailer: any ghostbusters afterlife 2 footage yet.
Ghostbusters 4 – aka Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 – was set to come to cinemas this December, but it's now been shifted back until 2024 .
The move was a result of Sony shuffling their upcoming schedule, with the new Ghostbusters movie taking the place of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse , which now doesn't have a release date (currently).
We don't know too much about Ghostbusters 4 , other than it will continue the story of Ghostbusters: Afterlife rather than be another soft reboot of the series.
So while we settle in for the extended wait for the new movie, here's everything you need to know about Ghostbusters 4 .

Ghostbusters 4 release date: When will Ghostbusters Afterlife 2 be released?
As mentioned above, Ghostbusters 4 was meant to arrive on December 20, 2023 , but has now been pushed back to March 29, 2024 .
The new movie filmed from March-June 2023 with the working title of Firehouse and on Ghostbusters Day (June 8, if you didn't know), the first official logo for the new movie was revealed.
Its chilly look was potentially more fitting for its original release date of December 2023, but it suggests that the new movie will be set during the winter all the same.
Ghostbusters 4 will bring back Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace as Egon's grandchildren Trevor and Phoebe, as well as Carrie Coon as Egon's daughter Callie and Paul Rudd as Callie's love interest Gary Grooberson.
Logan Kim and Celeste O'Connor are also returning as Podcast and Lucky Domingo, while the OG Ghostbusters are all back too, so that's Bill Murray's Peter Venkman, Ernie Hudson's Winston Zeddemore and Dan Aykroyd's Raymond Stantz.
Annie Potts is also reprising her role as Janine Melnitz and the new movie is bringing back William Atherton's Walter Peck too.
There are some newcomers to the Ghostbusters world in the form of Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, Miko Hughes and Emily Alyn Lind. We don't know any details about who they're playing yet though.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife featured a posthumous appearance from Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler, but given the way it ended – with him going to the 'afterlife' – it's highly unlikely they'd repeat the manipulative gimmick.

Sigourney Weaver appeared again as Dana Barrett in the mid-credits scene for Ghostbusters: Afterlife and could feature in a sequel, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Behind the scenes, Gil Kenan has taken over from Jason Reitman as director for the new movie, but Reitman has stayed onboard as a writer and producer, with Kenan also writing the movie with Reitman.
We haven't got an official synopsis for the next movie, but director Jason Reitman said before Afterlife 's release that it "opened the universe to all kinds of stories" .
That means, for now, all we can do is look at the ending of the threequel to see what clues we can spot.
Afterlife 's ending sees Trevor, Phoebe, along with friends Podcast, Lucky manage to defeat Gozer (yes, as in Gozer from the 1984 original) and all is right with the world.
Cassie makes peace with the ghost of her dead father Egon (yep) and she and Gary are likely going to live happily, if a bit weirdly, ever after. The family presumably stays in Summerville, Oklahoma in Egon's old house and everything is right with the world.

Of course, there are post-credit scenes. It is the second one that sort of hints at a potential sequel, though how still remains unclear.
In the end, Winston is speaking to the Ghostbusters' old receptionist Janine about his achievements, but most of all how finding a home with the Ghostbusters helped him flourish.
He narrates as the scene moves to him returning to the old fire station where the Ghostbusters were headquartered, having rescued the car from Oklahoma. Meanwhile, weird noises reverberate inside the firehouse.
Whether or not he plans to resurrect the OG Ghostbusters is the cliffhanger, we presume, director Jason Reitman wanted us to leave with.
One thing we do know for sure is that the new movie will return to New York City and that iconic firehouse.
Even though filming has wrapped, we still don't have any trailer to show you for Ghostbusters 4 .
With the delay in release date, we might have to wait until late 2023 to see anything, unfortunately.
Ghostbusters 4 is released in cinemas on March 29, 2024.

Despite Major Delay, ‘Ghostbusters 4’ Will Screen This Week
in Movies & TV

Despite a recent delay to the release schedule, Ghostbusters 4 (2024) will be screened this week.
There’s a lot of anticipation for the upcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), which impressed fans and critics and caught $204.4 million worldwide in its streams back in 2021. And while there was recently some bad news about the release date, we suddenly have some news that will blow your socks off faster than any Class Five manifestation.
As shared by YouTuber Popular Tripe (via Ghostbusters News), Ghostbusters: Afterlife director/co-writer Jason Reitman and co-writer Gil Kenan surprised fans when they appeared on stage during yesterday’s screening of Ghostbusters: The Preview Cut at London’s Prince Charles Cinema, which includes nine minutes of additional scenes that didn’t make the final cut of the original 1984 film.

Kenan, who is this time in the director’s chair for Ghostbusters 4 , with Reitman taking on co-writing and co-producing responsibilities, revealed that, following the screening of the special cut of the 1984 film, a “preview cut” of the new sequel codenamed Firehouse will also be held at London’s Prince Charles Cinema on August 21 (that’s right — today !).
“The morning after we’re showing the preview cut of the greatest film ever made [ Ghostbusters 1984],” Kenan says, “I’m gonna be screening the very first cut of Ghostbusters: Firehouse .”
Check out the footage of Reitman and Kenan making the announcement below:

Unfortunately, Ghostbusters 4 will be screened exclusively for the two filmmakers (and possibly other members of the crew). This comes as no surprise considering it was recently given the new release date of March 29, 2024 as part of a major reshuffle to Sony Pictures’ film schedule due to the ongoing WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes .
Filming for Ghostbusters 4 began in London in March this year , before moving over to New York City, where the film will officially take place. Along with a number of actors from the original two films, Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) , the sequel will see the return of the entire Afterlife ensemble, and a handful of newcomers.
Reitman confirmed during the announcement that filming has now wrapped on Ghostbusters 4 , and that Kenan is currently in the process of editing.

Fans who were hoping to catch Ghostbusters 4 this December will obviously be disappointed. And though there isn’t a trailer in sight, Sony Pictures recently unveiled a Ghostbusters short film, which sees the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man tearing up New York City.
Check out the film below (as shared by the Michigan Ghostbusters YouTube channel ), which includes behind-the-scenes footage:

What’s Ghostbusters 4 about?

Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan confirmed on Ghostbusters Day (June 8) in 2022 that the film will “continue with the Spengler family storyline” in New York City, where original Ghostbusters, Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson), will train Phoebe Spengler (McKenna Grace), Trevor Spengler (Finn Wolfhard), Lucky Domingo (Celeste O’Connor), and Podcast (Logan Kim) to become “the next generation of Ghostbusters.”
Earlier this year, a Production Weekly listing ( via Ghostbusters News ) revealed the following synopsis for the film :
“After the events in Oklahoma, the Ghostbusters team returns to where it all started; New York City! The Spengler family story continues with a new group of Ghostbusters led by Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd).”

Ghostbusters 4 Poster Suggests Hell Will Freeze Over This Christmas in Afterlife Sequel
The upcoming Ghostbusters sequel is slated for release this December and has been giving a chilling new tease.
The Ghostbusters franchise is celebrating its 39th year this week. It is clear how the franchise is still as spirited as ever, planning to release the sequel to its much-loved Ghostbuster: Afterlife movie some time December. Fans can expect the film to deliver on its promise to make the Christmas season hauntingly festive. As a nod to the franchise's anniversary, a frosty new teaser poster was unveiled on Ghostbusters Day, the date marking the original film's debut back in 1984.
The debut poster, revealed across various Ghostbusters' social media platforms, takes a chilly turn from its traditional design. The franchise's quintessential logo—a playful ghost enveloped by a prohibitive symbol—undergoes a winter transformation. The ghost appears to be frozen, suggesting the sequel may unfold during the winter months, or even at Christmastime, a hypothesis that aligns with its holiday premiere.
Unofficially, the project is being referred to as “Firehouse” since the movie does not have an official title yet. The working title Firehouse can be seen as a direct tribute to the iconic New York headquarters of the original Ghostbusters films. Details about the film’s plot remain in mystery, despite all the buzz surrounding it. However, it is known that the sequel will be a continuation of the previous ‘Afterlife’, aiming to extend the storyline.

What Can We Expect from the Ghostbusters: Afterlife ?
Audiences can expect the return of McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Paul Rudd, who played pivotal roles in the previous installment. New faces joining the spectral adventures include Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.
The Afterlife narrative revealed that Carrie Coon's character, Callie, was the granddaughter of Egon, one of the original Ghostbusters. Her children, Phoebe and Trevor, portrayed by Grace and Wolfhard respectively, were poised to take the torch, or rather the proton pack, and continue the family legacy. A noteworthy scene in Afterlife showed Ernie Hudson's Winston returning the famed Echo-1 vehicle to their old firehouse in New York City. It is believed that the full original trio of Hudson and his co-stars Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, will return to the new film, although Sigourney Weaver has confirmed that she will not be appearing this time around.
Fans can start marking their calendars on December 20, 2023 as the official release date for the new Ghostbusters installment. The movie will have Gil Kenan as its director and Jason Reitman returning as its co-producer and co-screenwriter. As Ghostbusters enthusiasts eagerly anticipate further news about the film, they can feast their eyes on the new frosty teaser poster that hints at the chilly adventures ahead.
In conclusion, as the Ghostbusters franchise nears its 40th anniversary, it is clear that the specter of nostalgia, coupled with a renewed sense of adventure, is all set to infuse new life into the franchise. With a talented cast, a chilling new theme, and a holiday release, the new movie seems poised to make a spectacular, spectral splash in cinemas during the 2023 Christmas season.

Ghostbusters 4, 5 & 6 could happen with original team, says dan aykroyd.
Dan Aykroyd has an idea for how the original team could return in Ghostbusters 4, 5, and 6, should a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife happen.
Dan Aykroyd reveals that he has an idea for the original cast to return in Ghostbusters 4 , 5 , and 6 . The first Ghostbusters was released in 1984, written by Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and directed by Ivan Reitman. Banking off of the success of the original, Ghostbusters II was released in 1989. Ghostbusters III was stuck in development hell for decades before Sony decided to reboot the franchise with an all-female cast in 2016 from director Paul Feig.
2016's Ghostbusters received mixed to negative reviews, so Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones never got to return to their roles. Instead, Ghostbusters was again rebooted with Ivan Reitman's son Jason making a true sequel to Ghostbusters II . While focusing on a new generation of kids including Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), Podcast (Logan Kim), and Lucky (Celeste O'Connor), all three of the surviving original Ghostbusters cast members returned for a cameo at the end of the movie. As Phoebe is trying to defeat Gozer, Venkman, Ray, and Winston show up to help the young crew. Crossing their streams doesn't go according to plan, which is when Spengler's ghost shows up to defeat Gozer with his granddaughter.

Should a sequel happen, Aykroyd has an idea for how he and his co-stars could return. In an interview with USA Today , Aykroyd says he wants his and Murray's characters to die in Ghostbusters 4 . The actor then backtracks a bit to suggest Ghostbusters 4, 5 , and 6 could involve the original cast until they actually die in real life. Aykroyd's full quote can be read below.
I'd like to die. I think Bill and I should be killed in the next one. Or, maybe we wait. Why not use the living Ghostbusters – Ernie, Billy and myself – for four, five, and six? Go until we're gone. Then there will be time for the tributes. Death is going to take us soon enough.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife's post-credits scene shows Winston returning to New York and ECTO-1 pulling into the Ghostbusters' firehouse before a red light starts flashing on a containment unit. While this certainly seems to be teasing Winston's future in leading the new Ghostbusters team, a sequel has yet to be officially green-lit. Jason Reitman is interested in continuing the franchise, even suggesting they make multiple spinoffs in different genres. The director also teased Vigo the Carpathian could return in Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 , but until Sony confirms a sequel is in development, anything on the movie's story is purely speculation.
There is a real chance Ghostbusters 4 could happen , considering the film's successful box office run and positive reviews. Thankfully, it's also incredibly possible the original cast could return once more. As mentioned above, Hudson's character would seemingly be a mentor figure to a new generation of Ghostbusters, and Aykroyd himself has confirmed he would be willing to return. However, it's unknown if Murray would return for Ghostbusters 4, given his reluctance to return to the franchise. Ghostbusters: Afterlife found a creative and emotional way to reunite Murray, Hudson, and Aykroyd with Ramis, who passed away in 2014, one last time, so it may be better to finally say goodbye to the characters if the franchise continues.
