Introduction [ edit ]
The Den is a dangerous place and is a safe haven for drug and slave trading. You'll be able to bust a slaver ring and a small gang here.
Details [ edit ]
When you enter the Den, go a bit to the south, and then enter Rebecca's bar/casino (see the note above). Talk to Rebecca, and ask her for some work. She'll tell you to go and find Fred. To find Fred, leave the bar, go south, and enter the building where there is only one orphaned child. Enter it, and talk to the drunk-looking guy (description says that he is "a citizen of the Den"). Tell him that he owes Rebecca $200. He'll ask for $150 in the process, and tell him that's okay. (He'll give you lots of nice stuff later on.) Also, enter the door that leads to Flick, the shopkeeper who is wearing a green shirt. Ask him what he does he do in the Den, and then ask him if you can trade. After he shows you his wares, don't trade for anything, and thank him. Talk to him again and ask him to show you his wares. This time, he has a .44 magnum revolver that you can barter for. Buy that and its corresponding ammunition. Use your gecko pelts to trade for that.
Afterwards, leave this area, and go to Rebecca to pay her the $200. She'll split it in half for you. Talk to Rebecca again and offer to find the missing book for her. The book is in one of four random locations:
- The book is by a trash can (not on fire) with a car door leaning beside it. The area is to the south of the graveyard and across the street.
- The book is in the graveyard. It's close by the John Andersen tombstone.
- The book is by some ruins to the east of the Slaver's Guild. The wall to the north is blocking the book, so you'll have to carefully search the area.
- The book is in an outhouse close to The Hole. It's beside the toilet.
After you find the book, you can return it to Rebecca for some experience and money.
Now, it is time to go to the east side. Go there, and if you are female, go to the Hole. Talk to the male bar patron, and tell him that he can sleep with you for $200. If he says he doesn't have enough money, tell him tough luck and then ask for $200 again (chances are that he might have the money). If you are male, you can hire a prostitute if you give her some cash.
Go to the Slavers guild which is to the east. Enter there, and the door guard will start to talk to you. Tell him that you want to see Metzger or you want to buy some slaves. Afterwards, talk to another guard who is holding a slave inside the main building. Ask him about Vic, then ask if you can see him. Beg if the guard won't let you through. If he lets you through, talk to Vic, tell him that you are going to free him, and then give him the old radio that you found in Klamath. Afterwards, go and see Metzger (he's in the center of the northern room). Talk to him, and ask him if you can buy Vic. He'll sell him for $1000. If you're female, you can sleep with Metzger and buy him for half the price. Also, be sure to steal the shotgun from Metzger.
In the beginning, 'coward' defines Vic, but after you give him some armor and a decent weapon (like a shotgun or better), he becomes a whole lot better. Initially, he is inept at combat, but later on, he is quite formidable. After he maxes out his level, he can use the Gauss Rifle. In the long run, he is a valuable asset.
When you talk to Vic, ask him where did he got the water flasks from for some easy experience.
Next, go to Mom's diner and talk to Mom, the owner of the place. Ask her what's going on in town. She'll hand you a dinner that she wants you to give to Smitty. While in Mom's diner talk to the drunk in the green shirt. Ask him what is his story. Also, talk to Stacy and ask her why is she so sad She'll mention a cat, and ask if you can hear the story about her cat. You'll get some experience for listening to the story. Head to the west side of the Den to return Smitty's meal.
Smitty is in the far west corner of the West Side of the Den. Go talk to him, and tell him that you have his meal from Mom's. You'll get 150 experience and a stimpack for giving him the meal. If you take a look at Smitty's lockers, you can get a tool and other miscellaneous items. The last locker contains a shovel, which will be required for a quest later on.
Now it is time to do some mercenary work. Go talk to Lara, who is south of Tubby's store (it's the central building on the western wing of buildings). Lara is the woman in the second room. Talk to her, and ask her if there is any work to be done. She wants you to examine some crates in the Church on the East Side of the Den. Head there.
Once in the East Side, go to the church, and talk to Tyler. Tell him that Metzger sent you, and he wants you to check some stuff for him. He'll get pretty antsy, but will let you in. Once there, examine one column of the crates to find out that they are filled with chemical compounds. Head back to the West Side.
When you go there, go talk to Lara, and tell her what you saw. She'll give you $200 and a new quest: ask Metzger if it is okay for Lara and her gang to guard the church now. Head to Metzger's slave guild. Talk to Metzger and ask if Lara can attack Tyler's gang. Metzger will say that it is okay. Go back to the West Side and talk to Lara. She'll give you another quest: find a weakness in Tyler's gang.
Go back to the church, and talk to Tyler. Ask him what's going on, and he'll mention that he's going to a party. Tell him that you want him to have fun. You'll get more experience. Go back to the West Side. Talk to Lara, and she'll offer you $300 if you go and fight with her in order to eliminate Tyler's gang. Say yes. The fight isn't that bad, especially with Metzger's stolen shotgun and the revolver, and is ridiculously easy with the Power Armor. After you have killed Tyler's gang, you'll receive $400.
Now, it is time to put a ghost to rest. Go to the building that is directly south of the one that Lara usually stays. There should be a ghost there. Talk to the ghost, and ask her what is the matter. The ghost says that she can't find it. Ask the ghost what is the object, and then she'll mention that it is a locket. With this newfound knowledge, go to Mom's diner. Talk to Mom, eat the meal that she offers you, and then ask her if she knows about the haunted house. She'll mention that a teen used the house about two years ago whose name is Joey. Thank her, and head back (sigh) to the West Side.
Joey is the thug wearing a leather jacket. Talk to him, and ask him for some information. Ask him about the ghost, and then ask about the locket. Tell him that he stole it, and buy it from him for $50. With the locket, go back to the building where you found the ghost, and give her the locket. Talk to her again, and she'll turn into a pile of bones. Pick up the bones and head to the graveyard. Find the grave marked "Anna Winslow." Dig up the grave with your shovel, put the bones in there, and then close it up. (If you were wondering, the grave is in the south-eastern area of the graveyard.)
If you have the Advanced Power Armor, you can go and kill Metzger for a good bit of experience. Loot the corpses to get their pistols and drugs, for they come in handy when it comes to buying weapons later on. Also, if you have killed Metzger, go to Rebecca's bar. Tell Rebecca that the fight was easy, and she'll give you $1000 dollars. Go to one of the merchants in the West Side of the Den, and see if you can buy some jet (the merchants might sell it to you for about $60). Head to Vault City now, but stop in the unknown green area while you're on your way there.

Is the ghost in Fallout 2 considered canon?

You know that ghost named Anna Winslow you can give that amulet to? Is she canon?

It's up to you to choose it this happen in your head or if it's fit with the rest of the universe. Personnally, i am ok with it, but i doubt this will be taken into account in the rest of the continuity. So as the special encounters.

It always felt out of place for me. Then again, many things in Fallout 2 did.

Psychic thinkgs were already existed at Fo1. so it won't be weird to ghost to exist. and still, it's more realitic than vampire

Wasn't that just a crazy woman with a stealthboy? You can even gun her down.

It's up for debate. She does disappear into thin air and leave behind a bag of Anna Winslow's bones, but who's to say? Jet's a helluva drug. I personally try to take the same thematic razor to the Interplay-Era games as I use on the Beth-Era ones: if something's stupid or doesn't fit the world, and it isn't tied directly in to any endgame slides or anything carried into the sequels, it doesn't matter whether or not it's canon and you're free to ignore it as you see fit. The original devs themselves did it more than once (or something close to it, via ramshackle quasi-official retcons like "FEV only makes SOME ghouls" or "Hey, how about those wacky pranksters doctoring that GNN holotape at the Sierra Army Depot, eh?" Anna Winslow isn't any more or less real than Keeng Ra'at or Chuck Stodgers, which is to say, they'll likely never venture anywhere near that territory again except via wink-and-nod.

I don't think she was just a "crazy woman with a stealth boy". I found this over at the Nuka-Pedia. {101}{}{The name on the gravestone reads: " Anna Winslow ."} {200}{}{You put Anna's Bones to rest.} http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/DiAnnGrv.msg
Uhmmm..... so what does that prove? A woman that carries around some bones she dug up qualifies as a Crazy person. They don't have to be ghosts, specially because Ghosts don't tend to carry their bones around, they are ghosts.

I think it's just another half-hearted attempt by Arin to point out flaws of the first games like the last 10 threads he's started on this forum. Call me a cynic.
And they all consist of a single sentence. Isn't there a forum rule against that?

I think the accepted vernacular round these parts is rose tinted mirror shades .

Matthews It Wandered In From the Wastes
Don't use my name in vain, mutant! Also, seeing as the Chosen One comes from a tribe with hokey-dokey grass/drugsmoking crazy looney-popes (in my opinion), I wouldn't be one bit surprised if he saw ghosts/spirits now and then. Those with some spiritual power of sorts can sense ghosts or other spirits (which is noted in the RP when you talk to the shaman of Umbra Tribe), while the "civilized" people tend to not see/notice such themselves (or try to make a profit by stories of haunted houses). As for her being killable/loony woman with Stealth Boy, I can't say I ever did try to put her to rest other than the regular way from doing her quests, so I wouldn't know.

I merely consider her a quick way of scoring some xp. I wonder if that is very canon of me :I

The Den is a fairly large town south east of Arroyo. It contains four separate districts, a few gangs, bars and even a diner. Some of the quests require you to have items that you can only find in other towns so you might have to come back here a few times. Most of the quests here are optional but getting the Highwayman car from Smitty will make travelling from town to town much faster.
1) Collect money from Fred
Find Rebecca at the casino and ask her for work. She’ll tell you that Fred owes her a debt of $200. Fred is a little hard to find but sometimes he’s in the casino and sometimes he’ll be near Flick’s on the west side of the Den. When you find him you can demand all of the money, allow him to keep a little or tell him you’ll pay the debt yourself.
Head back to Rebecca and give her the money. She’ll share half of it with you. If you let Fred keep some or all of the money come back and see him in 3 to 6 months. He won big at the casino and will share some of it with you, up to $2,000.
2) Get book from Derek
Once you’ve collected the money from Fred Rebecca will have another job for you. This time to retrieve a book from Derek on the East Side of the Den. You can find Derek just outside of Mom’s Diner but he doesn’t know where the book is. It randomly spawns somewhere on the East Side, either outside the outhouse, in the graveyard, near a barrel south of the graveyard or in a cluster of trees behind the car in Metzger’s Slaver’s Guild.
3) Lara wants to know what is being guarded in the church
Lara is the leader of a small gang on the West Side of the Den. She wants you to talk to the guards and find out what they’re guarding inside the church. Speak with one of the guards called Tyler and bluff or intimidate your way into the church. You’ll need Strength 8 or to pass a Speech check to be let inside. If you fail the Speech check you can try again to initidate after about an hour. Head back to Lara for the next quest.
4) Get permission from Metzger for gang war
Once this quest is unlocked by finding out what’s in the church speak to Metzger to complete the quest. Return to Lara to continue with the next quest.
5) Find weakness in Tyler’s gang guarding the church
Speak with Tyler again and if you have Charisma 4 or above he’ll tell you that they’re throwing a party. Return to Lara and let her know.
6) Help Lara attack Tyler’s gang
Lara won’t pay you for your help unless you join her gang in the attack. Outside the church you’ll face 5 guards, one with a sledgehammer and the others with 10mm pistols. Once you enter the church there’ll be another 4 guards. Make sure you don’t accidentally hit any of Lara’s gang or they’ll turn hostile.
The other alternative is after talking to Lara run back to Tyler and tell him about the attack. He suggests you continue with the plan but turn on Lara’s gang when they attack. This nets the same rewards but you’ll lose 30 Karma.
7) Deliver a meal to Smitty for Mom
Mom is the owner of Mom’s Diner on the East Side. She asks you to deliver a meal to Smitty. If you agree head to Smitty in the Junkyard on the West Side. Give him the meal and in return he’ll give you a Stimpak . Head back to Mom’s for a free meal.
8) Free Vic from his debt
Vic is being held in the Slaver’s Guild. Speak with Metzger about Vic and he tells you that Vic is fixing a radio. Hopefully you’ve already taken Vic’s Radio from his workshop in Klamath. If not, go back there and grab it. Once you have the Radio and given it to Vic Metzger will still demand $1,000 to release Vic. Once Vic is released ask him about the Water Flask and he’ll point out Vault City on your map. He’ll also join your party if you ask him.
9) Sabotage Becky’s still
Speak with Frankie in The Hole bar and he’ll ask you to break it for him. Make your way to Becky’s bar and wait for the guard near the door to move away. Speak with the Craps dealer and ask him to unlock the door. Walk down the stairs and use a Crowbar to smash the still. Sneak back upstairs and go back to Frankie for your reward. Becky will not speak to you after this. You can also persuade Frankie to buy his stock from Becky if you pass a Speech check.
10) Get car part for Smitty
Smitty needs a Fuel Cell Controller to get the Highwayman car working. You can find a Fuel Cell Regulator in the car in Trapper Town however after speaking with Skeeter in Gecko you’ll realize this isn’t enough. Skeeter offers to give you a Fuel Cell Controller in exchange for a Super Tool Kit which can be found by giving Valerie in the Maintenance Center in Vault City some Pliers and a Wrench. She’ll give you the Super Tool Kit in exchange. Take the Super Tool Kit to Skeeter who gives you the Fuel Cell Controller and then take this back to Smitty who will install it in the car.
11) Return Anna’s locket
Speak with The Great Ananias in the southern side of the West Side of the Den. He’ll tell you a strange story about a princess and a magic amulet that haunts this place. Stay there until midnight and speak to the ghost, Anna Winslow in the next room. Ask her what’s wrong and she’ll mention a stolen Locket .
Go to Mom’s Diner and ask about the haunted house. She tells you about a Joseph or Joel who was living there and suddenly left. There are 3 Thugs on the exit to the East Side, one of them is Joel. You can either steal the Locket , barter for it, persuade, buy it or kill him for it. Either way return to Anna and give her the Locket . She asks you to bury her bones. Take them to the graveyard and locate her gravestone by reading the headstones. Use a Shovel to dig up the grave, place in the bones and fill it back in. This will complete the quest.

Again, that only proves the real Anna Winslow is dead. I think that what is being suggested is that, yes, Anna Winslow is dead, yes, the "ghost" gives you her bones, but NO, the "ghost" is not the real Anna Winslow, but a random, crazy woman. EDIT: Maybe even not a crazy woman, but someone trying to take advantage of goodie two shoes ...

Not a hologram, not an illusion, a straight-up ghost from before the War. It's 100% canon. There is of course Psykers, Ug-Qualoth in both Dunwich buildings, the Cabots, a ghost girl in 2, a ghost girl in Nuka-World, the Interloper in 76, Beastlords, and many others. None of the one I listed are small easter eggs.
