I like medical thriller dramas so am very excited for this drama. Let’s see what Ghost Doctor have for us😊.

The episode starts with a daughter crying over her sick father in an ambulance. EMT(ambulance Technician) tries to find a hospital with surgeons and beds to operate on him but no luck from his side. The ambulance finally stops at a hospital. A doctor in the reception annoyingly asks the EMT why they brought him here as he already said there were no surgeons available.

On the other side, an old lady with white hoddie mysteriously says that

In life, there comes a time when you desperately call to all the deities. If the deities are too busy to help, you wish even for a ghost to help, you are that desperate.

Back to the hospital, Cha Young Min(our main lead) stops the stretcher and tells the doctor that they should somehow save him and that’s what doctors do. The doctor asks if an intern like him would save him.

Suddenly we can see the air getting heavy and intern Cha Young Min eyes start glowing and his hands make fists around the pipe in the stretcher.

Back to the old lady, and she is not wearing a white hoodie rather wearing a white towel in her head. She seems to be a nanny in a hospital and she is telling tales to the sick children in the hospital. (Ok. I agree that I fell for that!)

The children who are listening to the tale asks the nanny if the ghost saved the patient. The nanny says it is a secret that the world can’t know. A boy asks the nanny if ghosts exist. She tells him that there is a guardian deity that looks after the sick and says that they can assume that the ghost doctors are looking over them as well.

A boy suddenly stands up and says that there are no ghosts and leaves. The other children follow him and leave. The nanny mutters to herself that they don’t know how adults work, if the living could take care of everything, it is a joke, a darned joke.

12 years later……

Cha Young Min walks into the EunSang University Medical Center. Oh Soo-Jung is waiting outside the hospital for an ambulance with her senior and others. Her senior notices Cha Young Min and introduces him to Soo-Jung. He tells her that he is Professor Cha Young Min, a Cardiothoracic surgeon and is extremely good looking for a doctor. He also tells her that he is full of mysteries.

At this point, the ambulance they were waiting for arrives and EMT reports to the doctors that there is no witness for when he collapsed and it took 30 minutes for the ambulance to take the patient here. Professor Cha glances at the patient before entering the hospital and asks someone in the phone to send Dr An and skip ECMO .

The patient is taken to ER and the doctors are busy giving him intubate and CPR. Dr An asks for ECMO repeatedly. Soo-Jung thinks something and runs after Professor Cha. He is near the escalator and Soo-Jung steps in with him. Soo-Jung explains to him that a patient in ER needs ECPR and asks him to perform it as it is an emergency. Professor Cha looks at her name on the id card and arrogantly starts to tell something but unfortunately, the escalator comes to an end and he almost falls😂😂.

Soo-Jung pushes him to talk the escalator which is going down and this time Professor Cha gets to give his arrogant comment. He says it is not her privilege to come and call him like that as she is just an intern. He also says that he just doesn’t treat any patient. He tells her three points about him.

One – I don’t treat just any patient because I’m not just any doctor for any patient.

Two – I don’t treat ER cases. Because they are a few steps until they reach me.

Three – I don’t treat patients like the one in the ER now. These hands are for those who have at least a one per cent chance.

(Well, these three points said pretty much about him)

He was being too busy to be arrogant that he didn’t mind the escalator again and almost falls again😂. Then he leaves with an arrogant face.

Soo-Jung is taken aback by him and runs to the ER again. In ER, Dr An and others are unsuccessful to save the patient and Dr An announces the patient’s death.

ghost doctor hospital location

(A death in the first episode!. I seriously don’t know why I started watching this medical thriller when I told myself to watch a light-hearted series just yesterday. I must be crazy.)

Soo-Jung is sad and she calls Professor Cha a scum bag. Soo-Jung’s seniors ask if she went after him and gets shocked by her word and tell her why he is the best doctor in Korea. He says, Professor Cha saved a patient by performing solo surgery when he was just an intern like Soo-Jung, he made the whole hospital stunt by that, he did that many times after becoming a resident, he saves all the patients he treats and some even say that he is possessed by a spirit. This catches Soo-Jung’s attention and asks spirit? And his senior says he was just trying to describe him and not actually possessed by a spirit. (Was she also there when that Nanny told the story 12 years ago?)

Professor Cha and his team with Cheif Bam attends a meeting where they discuss the patients. Kim Jae Won – resident under Professor Cha explains that they have to do a quadrido Bentall procedure on a patient and requests Professor Cha to do it. Things get heats up between Cheif Bam and Professor Cha. Basically, Professor Cha bullies Cheif Bam and he finally agrees to it when Jae Won says the patient asked to switch the doctor.

ghost doctor hospital location

They next discuss the next patient with Cardiac Sarcoma. Professor Cha clearly declines to do the surgery as it is almost impossible and also says the patient could live a year rather than die in the surgery.

The meeting is dismissed and Chief Bam is pissed with Professor Cha’s behaviour. Clearly, Professor Cha is not in the good books of Cheif Bam.

ghost doctor hospital location

While leaving Professor Cha notices that Jae Won is happy and asks if he loosed a screw or something. Another resident explains a junior is hired and he is happy that he doesn’t have to do the works all by himself anymore. Professor Cha chuckles and asks them to warn the junior as he is not on time on his first day.

Professor Cha asks Dr An why he is dull and asks if it is because of the patient in ER that died. He also says that it was obvious. They leave the room talking. He asks Dr An if he used ECMO and Dr An says no. Professor Cha says that he did well as it would have wasted 3000 dollars.

All this while there was someone in the room observing everything. He comes out in his pyjamas and goes straight to Professor Cha and gives a handshake and calls professor Cha a genius. Flustered Professor Cha asks who he is. But the guy continues talking his own mind. He says how cheaply he calculated ECMO circuit cost was while it was about it save a person. He is on Professor Cha’s nerve by now.

ghost doctor hospital location

The guy quotes Aristotle’s quote “There is no great genius without some touch of madness in it.” and indicates that Professor Cha is an example of it.

He then sees Kim Jae Won and calls him “Brother” and he introduces himself as a new resident Ko Seung Tak and leaves.

Professor Cha and others turn to Jae Won and ask who the heck he was. Jae Won is scared and cringes at the fact that Seung Tak knows him. Another resident recognises Seung Tak as Mr I was told to be a doctor. He tells that everyone in the interviews answers with “I wanna save patients who are in pain”, ” I wanna save people” for the cliche question “Why you wanna become a doctor?”. But Seung Tak said that he wants to become one because his grandfather told him to and also his mother told him to.

The chairman of the EunSang Hospital is Seung Tak’s grandfather. And the board director is his mother. (No wonder why he was so confident back there)

Professor Cha thinks Seung Tak as immature, rude, arrogant, logistical. He learns that Seung Tak is the heir of the hospital and is there only to get his doctor license. (Now Professor Cha is gonna make things hard for Seung Tak. But can he? Given the fact that Seung Tak is always gonna be treated well because of nepotism.)

Seung Tak presents the nurses and the receptionists of his department with luxury scents which despises Professor Cha and others.

Professor Cha hears about how infamous Seung Tak was in his university for his intelligence. Swing Tak used to ask professors so many crazy hard questions that no one has a clue where he read from. But Professor Cha is determined to kick him out.

ghost doctor hospital location

Professor Cha and others including Seung Tak take rounds to see patients. While seeing the first patient Professor Cha asks about the patient’s condition and Seung Tak flawlessly explains it and Professor Cha assigns the patient to Seung Tak. Everyone is a bit taken aback about it. The same happens with the next patient.

When they reach the other patient, Seung Tak, after realising what he is doing, says he doesn’t know the answer and Professor Cha looks at Jae Won and he explains it then Professor Cha assigns the patient to Jae Won. (😂poor Jae Won, failed to read the room)

They skip two patients and prepare to leave. Swing Tak asks why and Professor Cha says that there are two types of patients. One who will survive with his hands and another doesn’t. He says those two patients are the second category. He also says that it’s not like their lives were so great and ask shouldn’t they let go coolly when it’s time. He then turns to Dr An and asks him to transfer them within a week.

Seung Tak says “He is a jerk. They say genius is slightly insane. So don’t take his words to your heart” to those two patients. (He doesn’t leave a chance to piss Professor Cha)

Seung Tak sees Oh Soo Jung and smiles at her while she is working in ER. (I feel for his smile there). Soo-Jung sees him and they both steps outside for small talk. Soo-Jung treats him like a jerk though he acts superior. When she asks him to take this chance and fix his behaviour he says he is been used to acting superior for the past 28 years and says others should adapt to it as it is not possible to change himself anymore. (Why do I find him so cute!?). We can see that Seung Tak likes her.

ghost doctor hospital location

Professor Cha calls Seung Tak in his surgery where they are doing the Quadrido Bentall procedure. Other junior residents and interns come to watch the surgery including Soo-Jung.

Professor Cha hears that Seung Tak is weak in practicals and didn’t attend most of them in University so he calls him to humiliate him.

ghost doctor hospital location

Clueless Seung Tak gets flustered when Professor Cha asks him to do a stitch. He starts sweating and Professor Cha shoves him to do the stitches himself. He then comes out and tells his viewers that the patient wants the harsh doctor who is greatly skilled over the warm-hearted humane doctor with poor skills. He says they should work with their brains and hand rather than their heart.

ghost doctor hospital location

Soo-Jung thinks to herself that it is not a ghost but himself. She then sighs at Seung Tak before leaving. Seung Tak didn’t like to show that side of him to her.

Professor Cha at home – what a sight to see. He is coolly peeling his apple while talking to his pet- squirrel named Cha Mandu. He rants about Seung Tak and thinks that he won’t show up the next day but if he did he will do something more. He says he won and talks with his pet randomly.

(Nobody would believe that it was Professor Cha)

ghost doctor hospital location

The next day, Seung Tak reaches car parking in his car right when Professor Cha steps out of his. Professor Cha jerks at the sudden car entry and is surprised to see Seung Tak. Seung Tak says he should have this much virtue for an heir and says he has a good business mind. Professor Cha asks him to tell that to his grandfather as he may change his mind. Seung Tak says that his grandfather changes his mind frequently anyway to appeal to him.

They both then walk together into the hospital.

Professor Cha gets a coffee and goes to his favourite place. Curious Seung Tak follows him. Professor Cha sees Jang Se Jin in the place and becomes still. Se Jin approaches him and asks how was he. They both have so much pain in their eyes. Professor Cha, who is not very happy about meeting her, ignores her and tosses his coffee in the dustbin before leaving. Seung Tak observes all of this.

ghost doctor hospital location

Chief Bam makes Professor Cha meet the Vice President of the Chunmung group. His father is a patient with cardiac sarcoma who’s the surgery he previously denied so that he can live another year.

Professor Cha arrogantly says he can’t do the surgery just so the son can save his face and tells him the complications.

ghost doctor hospital location

Professor Cha makes Seung Tak work in ER and asks him not to come into his surgeries.

Seung Tak once again shows off his nepotism by giving everyone scent in the ER department. Soo-Jung’s senior agrees on Soo-Jung to be Seung Tak senior in the ER department. Soo-Jung’s senior is surprised to see their bond.

Seung Tak says she is only an intern now as she took a break but he is a resident. Soo-Jung asks him to follow her and he follows her saying she is gonna regret this and smiles.

But Seung Tak is the one who is regretting as patients treat him badly and he is not used to it. He whines on even cleaning a wound and it was so cute to watch😂.

ghost doctor hospital location

They then go to meet the patient and the patient introduces Jang Se Jin as his youngest daughter and tells him that she is also a doctor in Seattle, US. Professor Cha is shocked to know the fact.

In the past, they both used to date but Se Jin left to the state after meeting her biological father without giving any hints to Professor Cha. There were rumours that intern Cha is not suitable for her anymore. This broke his heart. (Now I understand why he tossed his coffee before. Maybe I would have done the same.)

Present-day. Professor Cha and Se Jin step out of the room to talk. Professor Cha rudely says she is doing well with her father. Se Jin says he is also doing well as a doctor. Professor Cha then arrogantly asks what she wants to do in the surgery? Kill him? Is that why she called him. She asks not to perform the surgery and is aware of his father’s condition. She says as a doctor he must have come to the same conclusion. Professor Cha asks if she doesn’t like the will he wrote and that’s why she wants him to live. He then says he will do the surgery and it is not impossible for him and says he is not the lowly intern from 12 years ago. Se Jin asks if he is doing because of her and asks if this is the kind of doctor he has become.

ghost doctor hospital location

He then informs that he is doing the surgery. He is determined to show off his skills to Se Jin.

The next day, before the surgery Dr An asks why he is doing the surgery as he doesn’t do this kind of complicated surgery. Professor Cha says that he will get benefits from the patient’s son and says naturally Dr An also will get the benefit for all the abuse he is been enduring under him. Dr An nods and says he will prepare for the surgery before leaving.

He then performs surgery by taking out patient’s heart out. The surgery ends.

ghost doctor hospital location

Suddenly, we are shown the Professor is met with an accident and he is in the driver’s seat with blood running in his face. The last thing he remembers is that he was next to the patient’s bed anxiously waiting for him to wake up and he gets an anonymous text message to meet up. He then hurriedly leaves the hospital. The next thing is he met with an accident.

ghost doctor hospital location

He wakes up and comes out of the car to see the outside. His car seems to hit a container lorry and a person is pretty badly hurt. He then rushes to the man who is hurt to treat him. He then tries to see if there is any pulse but his hand passes right through the man. He then tries to do CPR but his hand again passes through is the body. He is gazed out and is unsure of what was happening and at this point, an ambulance arrives and to Professor Cha’s surprise, an EMT goes to pick Professor Cha from his car. That’s when he realises that he is nothing but a spirit now. He is full of gold shimmers and golden eyes.

ghost doctor hospital location

In the hospital, Jae Won calls Seung Tak and asks for his help but Seung Tak says he is busy though he is just chilling. He then sees an ambulance. Soo-Jung is out to receive a patient from the ambulance. She and the others are shocked to see Professor Cha and get him inside. Spirit Professor Cha follows them.

Soo-Jung and others analyse what could be the problem and continually call for the on-call doctor. Spirit Professor Cha tries to think straight and thinks of what is his body condition. He screams they need echocardiography and says they will get late if they take a CT scan. But no one hears him.

Seung Tak slowly comes to the ER and professor Cha is shocked to see him and asks why it has to be him. He then screams to others that he won’t get it and asks to call Dr An. But no one hears him which makes him frustrated.

ghost doctor hospital location

But to his surprise, Seung Tak is shocked and in the verse if cry but says that he needs echocardiography. Professor Cha again doubts if knows how to use it but Seung Tak pulls it off as well and says there is pooled blood and says it is Cardiac Tamponade. Professor Cha is satisfied and asks them to prepare for the surgery soon.

Everyone is in the surgery room but they could not find a surgeon. Professor calls them fools and asks if there is no surgeon to operate on him while he saved so many patients in the very room.

ghost doctor hospital location

Professor Cha body’s bp starts dropping and the Anesthesiologist says that he could die if the bp keeps falling. But they could reach no surgeons yet. So Seung Tak decides to do the surgery. The anesthesiologist scolds him for his decision but any of them have no other choices.

Professor Cha is shocked again and is stumbled between if he wants Seung Tak to perform the surgery as he is his last hope or not to have him as his surgeon as he has never properly used a scalpel before. He then holds the hands of Seung Tak and suddenly he finds himself inside the body of Seung Tak. He then starts surgery with Soo-Jung as his first without any further ado.

He cuts open to see his heart beating and the episode ends here.

ghost doctor hospital location

Whaaaa….. Seung Tak is such a cutie. Am sure I can watch the drama and gonna enjoy it because of him.

I like the plot as of now. What do you guys think?

Ghost Doctor - Unspoiled Review

Cha Young Min is a  talented but arrogant surgeon who is involved in a serious car accident that leaves him a “coma ghost”.  Now, he is stuck inside the hospital walls where the only ones who can actually see him are other ghosts and Ko Seung Tak, a book-smart resident with questionable surgical skills, who also happens to be the hospital chairman’s grandson.  But Young Min’s  ability to “possess” and use Seung Tak’s body may give him a chance to complete some of the unfinished business he left behind before it’s too late, while helping Seung Tak gain the respect of his grandfather and colleagues.  With Young Min’s skills and Seung Tak’s body, the pair will try to become a medical dream team.

Ghost Doctor - Unspoiled Review

Rain as Cha Young Min

Cha Young Min is the best surgeon his hospital has on staff.  But along the way, his skill as a surgeon has caused him to lose sight of the actual patients he treats.  After being in a car accident, he finds himself outside of his injured body looking on.  The only person who can see him is Ko Seung Tak, the resident with smart book skill and “crappy hands”.  Using Seung Tak’s body, he is able to finish the surgeries no one else can do and spend time with the ex-girlfriend he never stopped loving.  Now, his biggest challenge is finding a way to wake up from his coma and begin to live his life with a newfound appreciation for his job and the people around him.

Ghost Doctor - Full Review

Doctor Cha was not always the cold, arrogant doctor he is now.  But with his success, he became more interested in maintaining his reputation than helping his patients.  Losing the woman he loved only added to his distant exterior.  But through the eyes of Seung Tak, Young Min is able to see his own faults and how his actions impacted those around him.  Rain was great in this role.  He has become such a seasoned and effortless actor.  Whether he was rude and arrogant or sincere and endearing, Rain portrayed the depth of emotion needed and it was fun to see him do such a light and subtly comedic role.

Kim Bum as Ko Seung Tak

Ko Seung Tak is a new resident, who is better known at the hospital as the grandson of the chairman.  While he is great at textbook medicine, he lacks the ability to carry out even the most basic medical practices.  He is the only person who can see Young Min after he becomes a ghost.  He agrees to let Young Min use his body to perform some important surgeries.  But when it comes to the surgery that could save Young Min’s life, he will have to improve his skills and overcome his fears.

Ghost Doctor - Full Review

Ko Seung Tak almost drown in the accident that killed his father when he was just a young boy.  Since that time, he has been able to see ghosts.  His fear of operating on patients stems from the fact that he can see their ghosts begging him to save them.  His bright, easy-going personality is his way of hiding his fears.  It was so fun to see Kim Bum as the clumsy, ackward resident.  He was charming and sweet and I loved his interactions with Young Min.

Supporting Characters

Ghost Doctor - Full Review

Uee as Jang Se Jin

Jang Se Jin is Young Min’s first love.  They met as residents, but she suddenly disappeared without giving him any explanation.  She actually left to protect him from her brother, but she never stopped loving him.  When Young Min is hurt, she shows up to act as his doctor and hopes that they can get back together once he finally wakes up.

Son Na Eun as Oh Soo Jung

Oh Soo Jung is a classmate of Seung Tak.  Her grandfather was a famous surgeon who worked at their hospital before his death.  But his life motivated her to pursue medicine, and little does she know her grandfather is still there watching over her as a ghost.  Oh Soo Jung and Seung Tak both have feelings for each other, but they are both too shy to confess them.

Ghost Doctor - Full Review

Sung Dong Il as Tess

Tess is Oh Soo Jung’s grandfather.  He was once a great surgeon.  Since his death, he has stayed in the hosptial as a ghost, stepping in to treat patients from time to time, when the situation warranted.  As the ghost who has been there the longest, he is the authority on being a ghost and the rules that apply to them.

Things I Liked

♥ death scene.

Chairman Jang’s death scene was so well-done in this drama.  I loved the blending of him playing games with Tess and laughing with the drama and emotion of Se Jin as she watched him slip away.  It was a beautiful tribute to his humanness and the inevitability of death.  His character was interesting throughout the drama, even if I couldn’t understand his need to protect his jerk of a son, and his ending was touching and bittersweet.

♥ Ghost Trio

The three coma ghosts were such fun characters.  Their interactions were funny and their individual stories and personal requests were intersting.  Bo Mi and Hoon Kil made a very sweet couple, and I loved the way, after they woke up, their connection was still there.  This trio of characters was a welcome distraction from the main storylines and their stories really added to the overall mood of the drama.

  ♥ Bromance

It’s impossible to talk about this drama without mentioning the amazing chemistry between Young Min and Seung Tak.  This duo had such a great bromance.  Having both lived through the reality of ghosts, they had an ability to understand each other that no one else could ever know.  And that made their friendship all the more special.  And while Seung Tak had plenty to learn from Young Min about treating patients and surgery, Seung Tak had people skills and a bed-side manner that gave Young Min a renewed perspective on being a doctor.

Things I Didn’t Like

I didn’t really understand how Tess was able to stay in the hospital if he had already died.  While coma ghosts are tethered to the hospital, they disappear once their bodies either die or wake up.  But Tess had died years ago, so how was he still hanging around?  And what gave him the power to decide it was time to finally move on in the end?  I loved his character and adore Sung Dong Il as an actor but his character didn’t seem to fit into the parameters the show set up for this ghostly world.

More Soo Jung

I enjoyed Soo Jung’s character and her story was interesting, especially as the granddaughter of Tess.  I wish they would have utilized her character a bit more.  More screen time getting to know her and building up her romance with Seung Tak would have been nice.  The fact that their fathers were best friends is a great introduction to a beautiful love story that never quite gets told.

Young Min/Seung Tak Connection

Another point that confused me was why Seung Tak could see Young Min and why Young Min was the only ghost who could enter Seung Tak’s body.  It’s true that Young Min was used by a ghost back in his resident days.  And it’s also true that Seung Tak was saved by Tess, while he was a ghost.  But how do those two things connect the two of them?  Neither of them was directly involved in the other’s experience.  By that logic, Young Min could have used Dr. Ban Tae Sik, or any other surgeon Tess has been in.  Or, like Tess, are we just supposed to turn a blind eye to logic because these two are meant to defy all rules?

Bad and Crazy - Full Review

“Ghost Doctor” has a happy, satisfying ending that wraps things up nicely.  First let’s talk about our ghost trio.  Both Bo Mi and Hoon Kil got the surguries they needed and woke up.  While neither actually remembers the other, they both feel an unexplanable connection that tells us their fate is still tied together.  Unfortunately, Kook Chan can’t be cured.  Rather than be left alone without his companions, he asks Young Min to transfer him to a hospital closer to his home.  Young Min manages to complete most of his own surgery before being bounced out.  Luckily, all of Seung Tak’s hard work pays off and he is able to finish it up with no problem.  It takes Young Min a few days to wake up, and at first he pretends not to remember anything.  He gets a bit of revenge on Se Jin but it backfires when she puts a couple ring on his finger and then takes off to the the U.S.   Tess has decides that now that Young Min and Seung Tak are there to take care of the hospital, it’s finally time for him to pass the torch.  He gets a chance to say goodbye to his daughter and Soo Jung before a teary-eyed Seung Tak sees him off with a deep bow.  Later, as Young Min rants to Mandu about his frustrations with Se Jin, she breezes in with a suitcase and casually starts making plans to refurnish the place.  The final scene shows Young Min and Seung Tak working together at the hospital and it’s obvious that their teamwork will continue for many years.  What’s important is that Young Min has taken his experience as a ghost to heart and has a renewed passion for the people and patients around him.

Should I Watch

Ghost Doctor - Unspoiled Review

“Ghost Doctor” is a  light medical comedy.  While it does contain a bit of romance, it’s the bromance that really gives this one its flavor.  There are some surgery scenes, so if blood and medical procedures aren’t your thing, there may be a few uncomfortable moments, although it never seemed excessive. The definition of a “coma ghost”  gave the story a fun, original concept that allowed for plenty of interesting medical moments and some beautiful life lessons about empathy and humility.  Rain and Kim Bum were fantastic together and their chemistry made this one a pleasure to watch.   I give “Ghost Doctor” an 10 out of 10 ramen.

3 Key Points To Look Forward To In The Remaining Episodes Of “Ghost Doctor”

3 Key Points To Look Forward To In The Remaining Episodes Of “Ghost Doctor”

“ Ghost Doctor ” has already reached its halfway mark!

tvN’s “Ghost Doctor” is a fantasy medical drama about genius thoracic surgeon Cha Young Min ( Rain ) and silver-spoon resident Go Seung Tak ( Kim Bum ) who could not be more different in terms of their backgrounds, skills, or personalities but end up combining bodies and spirits.

Although they once despised being around each other, Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak have now become a duo that literally cannot be apart. As we continue watching over how their relationship evolves, here are three key points to look out for in the remaining episodes of “Ghost Doctor”!

1. Another danger that will confront Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak

In episode 8, Go Seung Tak learned that Cha Young Min was in danger of losing his life if he kept inhabiting his body, so he tried to keep his distance. Cha Young Min explained to Go Seung Tak, “Rather than letting go and just waiting for the day I die, I want to do what I have to do, and if I’m to do that, I need your help.” After a flood of tears, the two went back to combining bodies and spirits, much to the excitement of viewers.

However, Ahn Tae Hyun (Go Sang Ho), who has grown suspicious of Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak’s relationship, finds surgery logs written by Cha Young Min and takes them to Han Seung Won ( Tae In Ho ). Stay tuned to see whether Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak will be able to cooperate and not get caught when thrown into this sticky situation.

2. The reason why Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak are able to combine bodies and spirits

After successfully completing surgery, Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak excitedly start talking when they run into the question of why they’re only able to combine bodies and spirits with each other. Oh Soo Jung ( Apink ‘s Son Naeun ) already knows about their secret and Tes ( Sung Dong Il ), the hospital’s senior ghost, tells the two, “You guys must be securely linked,” raising questions about their connection.

Once they start working together again, Cha Young Min and Go Seung Tak are busy saving the lives of their patients. However, at the end of the latest episode, the duo held hands on their way to handle another emergency patient and in that moment, Cha Young Min’s brain waves slowly began to move. As Cha Young Min has never shown signs of potentially waking up, viewers will soon be able to find out the meaning behind this reaction.

3. The situations that have yet to be solved and the secrets that have yet to be unraveled

When the comatose motorcyclist (Lee Kyu Hyun) wakes up, everyone expects that he will reveal everything about Cha Young Min’s car accident. However, he shocks everyone when he doesn’t remember the promise he made as a ghost, with Go Seung Tak having to tell him the personal stories that he had shared. Viewers can look forward to finding out how the motorcyclist will later reveal the truth behind the accident.

Viewers were also shocked by the death of Chairman Jang Kwang Duk (Lee Moon Soo), who had great relationships with his children Jang Se Jin ( Uee ) and Jang Min Ho ( Lee Tae Sung ). However, following their father’s death, Jang Min Ho realizes everything’s been taken from him and turns on his sister Jang Se Jin, insisting that he’ll kill her.

Once rumors about Go Seung Tak start circulating the hospital, Go Jae Sik ( Myung Kye Nam ) catches wind of them and he heads to the hospital with an uncomfortable expression. He sits in front of an empty operating room and comments, “I’m here… are you next to me by any chance?” As he says that, Tes appears at his side and the two laugh together, previewing a mysterious relationship between the two.

Episode 9 of “Ghost Doctor” will air on January 31 at 10:30 p.m. KST while episode 10 airs the day after at 9:10 p.m. KST.

Ghost Doctor: Episodes 9-10 Open Thread

ghost doctor hospital location

The hospital is full of love and flirtation, and not just between our bromantic resident and ghost. Relationships — old and new — are blossoming, and while most people are keen to sit back and watch with bucket of popcorn, our bad guy is keen on ruining our resident’s reputation, even if innocent lives are caught in the crosshairs.   EPISODES 9-10 WEECAP

ghost doctor hospital location

After last week’s episodes concluded on a bittersweet note, I was eager to see more amusing ghostly shenanigans, but we can’t jump right back into them. Se-jin’s father just died, and would be in poor taste if we jumped right back into the slapstick comedy. No, we must be subjected to her doe-eyed mopiness for a little bit longer.

Surely I’m not the only one struggling to understand why she’s living in a constant state of — for lack of a better word — blah. Se-jin’s relationship with her father was strained, and she hasn’t seen Young-min in over ten years. I’m not saying she should be skipping down hallways or gyrating to music when it’s just her and Young-min’s body hanging out, but it seems rather extreme that her grief over these two men is so debilitating that she’s incapable of smiling and causing the corners of her eyes to crinkle. After four weeks, I’m just a little disappointed that the only times her character seems to have any semblance of a personality is in the flashbacks of her relationship with Young-min. Why must she be so directly tied to the ups and downs of Young-min?

ghost doctor hospital location

After losing her father, Se-jin becomes increasingly worried she’s going to lose Young-min in a similar manner. She has a tearful moment to herself where she confesses her fear to Young-min’s body, but coma ghost Young-min is watching the whole exchange and can’t idly stand by. His need to comfort her sends him looking for Seung-tak so he can hijack his body — so much for asking for permission first.

When he returns wearing his new flesh suit, Se-jin has already fallen asleep on the couch, so he tenderly covers her with a blanket and hums a song that’s special to them. Se-jin, who is in that limbo state between wakefulness and sleep, hears him and sleepily hugs him (in Seung-tak’s body). He assures her that it’s all a dream, but when she wakes the next day she struggles to discern what was a dream and what was reality. Although the humming and comforting was very much all Young-min, she also recalls seeing Seung-tak. Needless to say, she’s confused, but she quickly files it away to be overanalyzed later, because — good news, everyone! — Young-min has some brainwave activity. He’s not going to die after all!

ghost doctor hospital location

Young-min relays the happy news to Seung-tak, who runs to find Se-jin for confirmation. Her confusion about the night before increases when he bursts into the MRI room and demands an update. She hadn’t told anyone about the new brain activity, so how did he know? He plays it cool, claiming he had a dream — pfft! — and she seems to buy it because next we see them she’s showing Seung-tak the new brain scans and providing some explanation. The new brain activity can likely be explained by what doctors in the US call the “happy hormone.”

When they’re alone, Seung-tak suggestively asks what Young-min was up to last night that made him so happy — eyebrow wiggles — but then he horrifyingly remembers that Young-min was possessing his body all night long . Concerned about his purity, Seung-tak sets some new ground rules: no hanky-panky while inside his precious body. Let’s all be adults and keep our passions to ourselves, mmmk?

But Young-min retorts, “If you’re such an adult, is that why you’ve never used your body?” Low blow, Young-min. Low blow. The slight virgin shaming was a bit much, in my opinion, but I did appreciate how this scene highlighted the differences in their age and experience — both sexual and professional. Between all the quibbling, the dropped honorifics, and the fact that Rain doesn’t age, it’s easy to forget that these two are supposed to be a mentor and a mentee, and I liked that subtle reminder.

ghost doctor hospital location

In addition to being affectionate with Se-jin, the two deduce that Young-min’s coma-curing happiness stemmed from his recent post-surgery highs, so Seung-tak signs up to do all the surgeries he possibly can. He, Young-min, and Se-jin also team up to help solve the medical mystery behind Bo-mi’s coma. But of course, Seung-tak’s increasingly amazing track record in the operating room (and new partnership with Se-jin) triggers Seung-won’s alarm bells.

Tae-hyun’s insistence that Seung-won was possessed by Young-min’s ghost sounded absurd at first, but he can’t ignore Seung-tak’s unexplainable skills. So Seung-won schedules a follow-up appointment with Tae-hyun, who insists he can prove that Seung-tak and the hospital are haunted.

It’s an exchange that leaves me struggling to understand Tae-hyun’s motives. Why is Tae-hyun so obsessed with proving that Seung-tak is possessed in order to get back into Seung-won’s good graces? I don’t know about y’all, but if I was a doctor who attempted to medically murder someone, and my boss was willing to let me go quietly, I’d pack my bags and start fresh. I wouldn’t try to piss off the ghost that could prove my involvement — but I guess the story needs someone to convert Seung-won into a believer.

ghost doctor hospital location

Tae-hyun and Seung-won pair up for an OR sting operation in order to trick a possessed Seung-tak into revealing he’s really Young-min. The plan flops, but after the surgery, Young-min is so pissed that Seung-won would endanger the patient’s life that he throws caution to the wind and just outright reveals he’s inside Seung-tak’s body. Surprise! And what’s Seung-won going to do about it? Nothing, because Young-min knows from spying on Seung-won’s conversation with Min-ho that Seung-won needs Young-min, his most profitable doctor.

Seung-tak has a mini freak-out session after Young-min bashfully admits he spilled the beans, but it opens the door for Young-min to ask about Seung-tak’s history with ghosts. There’s a depressing little montage of a young Seung-tak coming back to the hospital over the years to try and condition himself to ignore ghosts, but even with all his years of training, his sixth sense has affected his ability to become a doctor. It’s hard to cut open a cadaver when the body’s owner is hovering nearby, and you’re the only one who can hear him worrying if the scalpel will hurt.

ghost doctor hospital location

Seung-tak is also familiar with Tess, but it’s only after he gives up trying to hide his ability from the ghosts that Tess, who has been respectfully ignoring him for the last twenty years, approaches him. It’s unclear if Seung-tak knows that Tess was his grandfather’s best friend or that he’s Soo-jung’s grandfather, but we do know that Seung-tak has Tess’s approval to date Soo-jung.

I approve of them, too, because their emergency room flirting is the absolute cutest and all anyone in the ER can talk about. Even Se-jin spots the two of them playfully bantering with each other, and we can practically see the flashbacks to her own relationship with Young-min play out on her big, woeful eyes.

Soo-jung hasn’t quite caught wind of Se-jin’s connection to Young-min, so when she spots Se-jin and Seung-tak — with Young-min in the driver’s seat of Seung-tak’s body and car — returning from the cutest K-pop concert date ever, she gets a little jealous. She’s still pouty when she returns home and sees the sugar glider — Mandu! — that Seung-tak has entrusted to her.

ghost doctor hospital location

Thankfully, there doesn’t seem to be any threat of Se-jin transposing her feelings for Young-min onto Seung-tak. Instead, all signs point to Se-jin figuring out the truth, so while there may be a few initial misunderstandings on Soo-jung’s end, I don’t think we’re going to see them fighting over the same man and causing unnecessary drama. Now that she’s revealed that she knows Young-min has been borrowing Seung-tak’s hands, all will be revealed shortly.

After Seung-joo collapses and needs to undergo an additional surgery, Seung-won blocks Seung-tak from taking part. Honestly, Seung-won has a point; a resident shouldn’t be the lead surgeon on all these complex surgeries. Instead of being a murderous villain with a plan to overthrow the hospital dynasty, I find myself wishing that Seung-won was just a pencil-pushing-rule-stickler who keeps undermining our heroes with red tape and his attempts to save the hospital from a lawsuit.

ghost doctor hospital location

But of course, our heroes rally the other doctors with an emotional speech about the importance of saving patients’ lives, and together the department schemes so that all the residents — except for Seung-tak — have reached the maximum hours they’re allowed to work. With no other option, Seung-won watches Seung-tak to scrub in, but mid-surgery Young-min and Seung-tak begin to glitch.

Cut to Young-min’s hospital room, where his brain waves seem to be growing stronger. Is he waking up mid-surgery? It certainly seems that way, but it’s unlikely to happen just yet. We still have two more lingering coma ghosts who haven’t woken up — or passed on — and now that Young-min has shed his hypocrisy and seems keen on helping his fellow coma ghosts, we must learn more about them before Young-min returns to the living.

Thank you, @daebakgrits , for the weecap. I really enjoyed these episodes. I felt Seung-tak's anguish when he was about to cut open the cadaver in his class in front of the other students. He may have all the theories in his head but the application is going to derail him from his goal of passing the board exam. How I love Young-min going to the concert with Se-jin, c/o our very friendly Seung-tak!

Both Se-jin and Soo-jeong have really not had much to do so far. The show is definitely sacrificing its female characters for the two MLs but understandably so. The ML's stories are more interesting and they have SO much more chemistry.

The explanation for Young-min's improved brain activity basically negates most of the first half of the show. They wrote themselves into a corner with the dying bit and then came back with 'happy hormones'.

Side note - Mandu being renamed 'saekki' was funny.

Both Se-jin and Soo-jung are rather unnecessary, but I do find both Young-min/Se-jin (the flashbacks, anyway) and Seung-tak/Soo-jung kind of cute. I liked the scene where Soo-jung revealed that she had known all along that Young-min had been possessing Seung-tak.

Seung-yoo running through Seung-tak surprised me, but I guess it shouldn't have since there was a reason they kept showing him.

I liked getting more of the other ghosts this week. Babysitting isn't easy, even if you are a ghost lol. I didn't realize the younger male ghost was a member of Rain's idol group. He's kind of cute.

I do wish the show knew how to use its female leads better. Yes, Rain and Kim Bum have impeccable chemistry and the show should ultimately focus on that, but that shouldn’t mean completely neglecting these women. I want to see more from Se-jin in particular. Show us something, anything , that isn’t her being depressed or moping over Young-min.

Young-min’s new brain activity and the reasoning for it completely contradicts what we learned during the first half of the show. Entering Seung-tak’s body was supposed to deteriorate his brain, but now it improves his condition because…happy hormones? Huh?? What does that even mean??? I know this ain’t the show for logical explanations, but the writer should still try to keep its own lore straight.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still enjoying Ghost Doctor a lot. Just want an excuse to like it even more.

judging by the conversation Seung-tak had with tess. He knew him when he was alive as a child. Since he and his grandfather were best friends, im sure he and crystal have known each other for a long time., that's the sense i get from their casual and comfortableness with each other. I loved when she was telling both of them off for making it super obvious that he was possessed.

When are we going to do something about Seung-tak's fear? Are they keeping it for when Young-min wakes up(my own preferred scenario) or he is going to suddenly find the courage cause there is no other way and do something that actually is impossible for a first year resident to be able to pull off? I'm waiting to see how it goes and also I can't help but feel a bit uneasy about the fact that once our ghost friends wake up they won't be able to remember anything, most importantly Young-min, but maybe the fate changes this time?

@daebakgrits I thoroughly enjoyed your weecap for Ep. 9-10 and your alternate version of Seung Won sounds good.

I am sad that this show is not having a lot of comments because it is really good.

I actually think the writer and director are doing a good job of keeping viewers entertained by turning the plotholes into real plot lines. For example, Seung Tak bought an ear pods to freely talk with the Ghost Young Min in public, but many a times they would interact carelessly without the pods and with the camera right over/behind their heads. Instead of brushing aside these scenes, the show uses them to show us different perspectives through each character in the show. Seung Tak's mom is concerned about her son's mental state, Soo Jung is cool about it, Kim Jae Won thinks it doesn't matter and Tae Hyun, plus Seung Won are trying to use this information to plot more evil schemes🙄🙄.

I felt UEE was lacking because I haven't seen her in anything, but she really shone in the scene of her parting with the chairman and I now, fully realize that the drama is not fully utilizing all its female characters, but the show isn't disrespecting its female characters by making them look dumb or needing the ML's rescue every other episode. Also, the other characters are more than making up for it that I really don't care about the lack of importance to them.

Ghost Doctor Finale Week Recap

Considering Professor Cha’s declining health, the other professors devised a method to operate on him through a bypass. However, the operation comes with a price: in order for Young Min to regain consciousness, he will never be a competent surgeon again due to his weak hands.

Following that, Young Min decides to give Ahn Tae Hyun another chance to redeem himself, as no surgeons are willing to operate on Professor Cha’s condition. He selects him to help with the surgery, with Young Min taking the lead.

Recalling their conversation, Seung Tak understands Young Min’s choice since he is both the patient and the doctor. Young Min believes that the most important thing in the patient’s life is his hands. In the operating room, Young Min astounds everyone when he is to be treated with a median sternotomy rather than a bypass.

Subsequently, despite his lack of coordination during surgery, Young Min made it through and entrusted Seung Tak with closing him up after witnessing him diligently practicing his sutures.

After the surgery went well, Young Min awakens, pretending not to recall anything from the previous three months. Surprisingly, he defied the fate of humans who are unable to recall previous lives. Fortunately, Young Min retains his memory, which aids in settling all the unresolved crimes during his time as a ghost.

A Priceless Lesson in a Doctor’s Life

Besides that, with the tiny bit of honesty remaining, Dr. Ahn surrenders to the authorities, presenting proof of their crimes, and the series’ villains are eventually captured for their horrific atrocities.

Tes, the veteran ghost doctor, departs peacefully as his work in the human world is finally over. Interns became doctors, ill-fated relationships were patched up, and all was well in the living realm.

Seung Tak continues to learn from his excellent professor on how to be a practical, skilled surgeon, and Young Min realizes that as much as he values his own life, every life in the world is precious.

Ghost Doctor Quick Plot Recap

Cha Young Min ( Rain ) is a heartless professor who is more concerned with his skills than with patients in hopeless situations. He was later involved in an unprecedented accident that turned him into a coma ghost.

Meanwhile, Ko Seung Tak ( Kim Bum ), a first-year resident who has seen ghosts since he was a child, strikes a deal with Young Min to save the patients’ lives and bring justice to those who committed misdeeds that took away an innocent life and a life barely hanging on a thread.

Ghost Doctor Series Peak Points

Young min’s outward appearance as a viper but is actually a softie.

Professor Cha epitomizes the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover,” since he may appear harsh and cruel on the outside, but he is actually rather good on the inside. One is how he progressively transforms his hatred for Seung Tak into brotherly compassion, which shows as he patiently teaches Seung Tak the fundamental skills necessary to become a doctor.

Subsequently, his perspective on his neglected patients changed. Throughout the entirety of the series, Young Min makes every effort to save and reawaken people who have fallen into a coma because of him. He even discreetly checked on one of his patients, despite the fact that he was a lost cause.

Lastly, Chief Ban confesses that Young Min had trust in Dr. Ahn and referred him to Han Seung Won. He argues that Seung Won would promote Ahn Tae Hyun regardless of his lack of credible qualifications.

The Characterization of Ko Seung Tak

Initially afraid of a doctor’s practical tasks, it was a heartwarming moment as we saw how Seung Tak had grown to learn and conquer his fear. Due to his wish to help the patients regardless of his lack of abilities, he eventually recognized that he should allow Young Min to teach him the basics.

Likewise, he showed attentive listening and practicing for each lesson from Young Min. He was even able to have bravery and put his learning into action in the on-the-spot OR case in which Young Min believed in him that he could do it, and he did.

ghost doctor hospital location

Humans Defying and Changing Their Destined Fates

During his time living as a coma ghost, Young Min witnessed how unjust the divinities’ laws for maintaining balance in the human and spirit realms were. One rule is that when a soul returns to a human body, it will have no memory of its previous existence. In Young Min’s case, though, he recalls everything he has done over the last three months.

On the other hand, when Seung Tak did not runaway from a flatlined patient in the ER, and the patient’s ghost and him meet eye to eye. This shows his determination to not give up on the patient and Seung Tak was able to perform a miracle and save him.

This illustration, most clearly implies that a human being’s deepest yearning can alter their own fates. That is what occurred to Seung Tak and Young-min; they both had a desire. They resisted their foreordained destiny, and this series highlighted how it is acceptable to break the rules of life and death even though it is not the will of the gods.

Ghost Doctor Series Musings

Ghost Doctor has established a consistent narrative flow since its premise. Although certain parts were a bit bleak, it’s incredible how they managed to keep the drama gripping with their twists and turns, as well as their lively characters.

Moreover, Rain and Kim Bum’s dotting bromance is definitely one of the most anticipated in the series. By portraying their characters so splendidly, they have won the hearts of every spectator, from their first negative impressions of one another to their eventual reliance and trust in one another, all of whom share the common objective and desire of saving the patients’ lives.

Also notable in the series are the female leads. Uee and Son Na Eun’s performances are to be commended since they exceptionally embraced the weight of their roles.

Besides that, this series not only delivered a well-written story but also conveyed valuable lessons about the various patients and doctors’ experiences inside the hospital, as well as how doctors strive to accomplish their duties to the best of their abilities.

Remarkably, even doctors who believe in scientific findings believe in miracles occurring in hopeless situations. We should, too, when we face those circumstances in our lives, learn to trust and not lose hope, because miracles do exist for those who genuinely have faith.
