Mechanics [ ]

When a map is loaded in, Ghost Orbs will spawn in the favourite room and float within the room. They look like very small orbs that glide across the screen, generally one at a time. They can be seen through the screen on a Video Camera with night vision, or through any available video feed with night vision.

Depending on the map and the location of the favourite room, Ghost Orbs can sometimes be seen via the map's CCTVs if the CCTV happens to be facing into the favourite room, though this is usually rare. Ghost Orbs will periodically shift position within the favourite room, forcing players to be more proactive in locating them.

When the ghost room changes on difficulties where 'Changing favourite room' is not set to 'None' (such as on Professional and Nightmare), the Ghost Orbs will also move to the new favourite room.

Possible ghosts [ ]

The Mimic induces Ghost Orbs as a "false flag" evidence. Since its main pieces of evidences are Spirit Box , Ultraviolet , and Freezing Temperatures , Ghost Orbs will be unaffected by the number of evidences set (such as on Custom difficulties or Nightmare difficulty), even when it is set to 0.

Strategies [ ]

• Because of the periodical moving of Ghost Orbs, searching for them with a hand-held Video Camera is often better than relying on stationary cameras. In addition, this eliminates back-and-forth trips to the truck, especially on larger maps where sanity preservation is more important.
• A player in the truck can view their teammates' Tier I head gear during the initial search for the ghost room to search for Ghost Orbs.
• If viewing the camera feed from the truck, camera placement is key to detecting Ghost Orbs. A good strategy for detecting them is placing two video cameras in the corners of the room facing each other to maximize coverage.
• Using video cameras to peer through exit doors, garage doors or windows may allow the player to find Ghost Orbs even before entering the investigation area.
• Ghost Orbs tend to show up in regular intervals. If none are seen for a long time, try moving the video camera or switch to another one.
• In outdoor areas such as on Maple Lodge Campsite , Ghost Orbs can be hard to see in bad weather conditions (primarily rain, snow, and fog). A hint to distinguishing them from snowflakes is that Ghost Orbs tend to float more horizontally and, sometimes, even upwards (compared to snowflakes always falling down). Additionally, snowflakes are generally dark, while orbs will be bright.
• It is best to check for Ghost Orbs when the room's lights are off. When on, the brightness may hide the Orbs from sight.

A Ghost Orb is a piece of evidence in Phasmophobia that you can use to determine what type of Ghost is haunting a map.

When you place Video Cameras in a room or are using a Head Mounted Camera with the lights off, players who are viewing the video feeds in the truck with night vision on may see them floating about. 'Ghosts' have been appearing in photographs almost since George Eastman introduced celluloid film for portable cameras during the 1880s. However, orbs were first noticed at about the time that the pocket camera with built-in flash hit the market 5 .

Orbs usually appear in digital still photography when a flash is used—they are rare in daylight and with film photography. Occasionally they have been observed moving in video footage. While most orbs appear spherical, other shapes have been reported such as diamonds, rectangles and smears.

When digital cameras became popular in the early '90s, ghost hunters and other paranormal investigators were able to quickly take dozens of pictures in a single location. The orb became popular as more than an anomalous spot.

Ghost hunters, eager to prove their locations were haunted, zealously brought photographic orbs to public attention, claiming that orbs or "ectos" were spirits made visible in their photos. In fact, orb photographs became so prolific that at least one paranormal association, the Toronto Ghosts and Hauntings Research Society (GHRS), stopped accepting them as proof of paranormal activity 2 .

Although it is comforting to believe that the spirits of our dearly departed live on in these small balls of light, both skeptics 3, 5 and many ghost hunters 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 agree that photographic orbs are most often, if not always, caused by natural elements such as dust, pollen, or water vapor. In fact, almost every source researched for this article that claims belief in the paranormal authenticity of photographic orbs had a money-making agenda such as selling a book, a subscription, a conference enrollment, or promoting a TV program.

Moreover, in a reply to an inquiry from customer Helena Cowell7, Fuji Films � wrote:

"Floating dust particles may cause white spots appearing at different positions on pictures taken by a digital camera using the flash. Dust in front of a subject reflects the flash light and the image of the dust is captured out of focus. Dust, snow, rain, pollen, condensation, or any small airborne particles may cause the same problem. The particle will appear light and big because it is out of focus; it may assume a shape similar to the aperture of the camera, usually round."

Scott Denning of the Southwest Ghost Hunters Association ponders, "Where is the control for orb photos?" as he remarks of those who claim to see orbs only in the pictures they take of 'haunted' locations. He asks how many pictures they take in "areas that aren't reputed to be haunted? 8 "

How to Collect Ghost Orbs in Demonologist

The objective of collecting ghost orbs may appear randomly during the second stage of your investigation on any of the maps. You’ll see a message on the screen that prompts you to collect ghost orbs. Just follow my simple instructions, and soon you’ll be able to complete this objective:

• Proceed with your investigation after the message about the ghost orbs pops up on the screen.
• Soon, you’ll notice white floating orbs in the air.
• Don’t chase them, or they’ll keep running away from you.
• Keep moving slowly, and soon, they’ll approach you on their own.
• Once an orb is very close to your character, press the “E” key to grab it.

Repeat this process with every orb on the map, and you should collect them all to complete the objective. Note that the number of orbs may be random, but typically there aren’t that many. They also often appear in groups, so you can grab them one by one to quickly complete this objective. While it is certainly true that a ghost can manifest itself as a ghost orb, a ghost orb can also come about from a general overabundance of spiritual energy. Graveyards especially are orb hotspots, and photos taken in graveyards can show dozens of orbs.

Unlike other paranormal entities, ghost orbs love to make themselves seen on camera. It’s rare to see a ghost orb with the naked eye, but it does happen occasionally. If you want to have the best chance at seeing a ghost orb, bring a camera along.

Like we described earlier, graveyards are great places to see a potential ghost orb, but a battlefield at night or an infamous haunted house can also be ghost orb havens.

The elusive energy balls have also been known to attach themselves to an individual, appearing in that individual’s photographs no matter where the location. What a strange compliment to be a ghost’s favorite person!

Ghost orbs can’t physically interact with the living world. They are limited to visual contact and have been seen on pictures taken from phones, expensive professional cameras, security camera footage, and night vision cameras. They don’t discriminate between camera types!

Orbs are also a favorite of ghost hunters since they are easy to photograph and don’t have obvious ill intent like a poltergeist or another type of ghostly apparition.

What Do Ghost Orbs Look Like?

Ghost orbs can look mildly different from picture to picture, but they all have a basic form and appearance.  Paranormal phenomena like spirit orbs are highly sought after by ghost researchers, and when it comes to photographs,  a large, bright spirit orb might be the best evidence of ghosts that a ghost hunter will ever see.

Ranging in size from an unobtrusive pinprick all the way to bigger than a person’s head, ghost orbs don’t follow any hard rules when it comes to size.

As you would expect from the name, ghost orbs are circular orbs that float in the air, usually lit from within. Particles of dust and raindrops are the two most common scapegoats when it comes to spirit orbs. When a picture is taken with a flash, this flash can illuminate and reflect off of specks of dust and water droplets, making them appear orb-like. Any other light source can cause these light reflections as well.

Lens flare is also to blame for false ghost orb pictures.

The best way to differentiate between some dust and a ghost orb is to take video evidence along with your still frames. Dust and water will move, unsurprisingly, like dust and water. Floating aimlessly or falling straight to the ground.

Spirit orbs on the other hand will move with intention, or if they are fixated on a certain person or object, remain stubbornly in place. Their movements are intelligent and intentional. A real ghost orb would never want itself to be mistaken for dust pollen.

Regular ghost orbs aren’t all that scary to look at, but what about when a ghost orb appears with a face? This can be frightening to observe, but these orbs are probably just stopping by to wish you well.

Ghost orbs with faces can be loved ones that have died coming to visit, or spirits struggling to manifest a truly human form. 

Ghost orbs that have faces are often seen in photographs taken at large, important events like weddings, birthdays, or maybe the birth of a longed-for grandchild. If you look closely at your ghostly visitor in your pictures, it isn’t odd at all to recognize the face staring back.

A visitation from a ghost, even one of a beloved person, can be unsettling. These moments should instead be greeted with joy. This spirit spent a lot of energy manifesting for you and should be welcomed with open arms.

What does an orb outlined in black, but the center is white and gold, almost like stars sparkling mean?

As an orb, I suppose by reading their definitions it means that though the area will give a negative impact, you will be given experience and a positive impact as well. Like a non-zero-sum situation? I have no experience in this scenario but that’s my opinion.

How do you tell the difference between gold and yellow?

What if I see violet and a light blue outline?

This is so retarded. The orbs are caused by light reflections off of dust particles in the air. The camera picks them up due to the exposure time. There’s nothing paranormal about it, it’s just a quirk of modern cameras.

My game cams have thee most strange recordings.. it’s almost as if there is some kind of spirit using the energy from my headlights to travel and it’s kind of scary looking .. also I have two recordings of these I call them “earth creatures”.. one looks like let’s say Bart Simpson, the other is bigger and and appears to have a large tree limb protruding out his forehead 6’-10’ also I do believe I have a space ship that landed in front of my game cam you can see the big headed pilot n big eyeballs.. but nobody seem to care and I think it’s amazing.. oh yea and also what about these flying orbs that I have flying around bright white big head then they have like other bright white dots that kinda look like vertebrates trailing behind the head? I think they are dangerous because one video I have shows a bright white human figure that kinda looks like me, but the camera I think was a little too close to whoever and it shows one coming straight down out of the sky entering the skull n dude falls out straight to the ground .. I would like some reasonable explanations if someone could help I would very much appreciate it, thanks.

Every ghost orb carries with it a specific meaning. While some critics say that these orbs are just a piece of dust or a fleck on the camera lens, spiritualists believe that they are a sign of spirits in the area. The gold orbs meaning shows what the spirits are trying to tell you. If you listen to what the spirits say, you can learn more about the higher plane of existence.

When you see a gold ghost orb, it almost always carries a positive meaning with it. This is the color of the angels, so it is unsurprising that it is the color chosen by beneficial spirits. While there are sometimes other meanings associated with the golden orb, there are two main interpretations that this color tends to carry with it.

1. Unconditional Love

Unconditional love is a truly rare thing to find in this life. Even the people who love you most can be pushed away by what you say or the mistakes that you make. When you see the gold ghost orb, it is a sign that you are loved. The spirit wants you to know that it is always there for you. It may be your guardian angel, a loved one who has passed on or merely a kind spirit. It may have noticed the struggles that you have gone through, and it wants you to know that you are not alone. Even when you feel like you are undeserving of love, the spirits and angels are there to love and support you unconditionally.

Another common interpretation of the gold orbs meaning is the angels. Gold is known as an angelic color, so it is often the color used by angelic spirits. Your guardian angel may be trying to let you know that they are there. You are never alone, and your guardian angel is watching over you.

All paranormal enthusiasts are familiar with the concept of ghost orbs: little balls of light that mysteriously appear in photos and video footage. These orbs can also be caused by natural means so how do we tell the difference?

Most orbs that appear in photos and videos are probably just dust particles that have been made visible by a certain type of lighting. Low light conditions where a flash is used are more likely to show up dust orbs.

In photography the phenomenon of dust orbs appearing in photos is known as backscatter.

Paranormal Orbs

So how do we know when an orb is likely to be a ghost?

An orb in a photograph is more likely to have a ghostly origin if the photo was taken in natural lighting. Orbs that show up in a camera’s flash are much more likely to be dust particles.

Ghost orbs in videos move in ways that seem unnatural. Dust particles will slowly float around all in the same direction. If one orb seems to move differently from others that appear it may be a ghost orb. Be aware that sometimes bugs appear as orbs in photos and videos.

Orbs that are clearly in the scene and not close to the camera lens are more likely to be ghost orbs.

If other paranormal activity is occurring at the same time it might be more likely that you are capturing a ghost orb.

Perhaps spirits are able to move dust particles in unnatural ways so when we capture an orb behaving strangely it may be dust being manipulated by a spirit or other paranormal entity.

Tips for eliminating natural orbs when ghost hunting

Use the live photo function on your phone camera. This way you can see a few seconds of movement on either side of the photo which help you to identify bugs vs ghost orbs.

Take video as well as photos. Things can appear strangely in a photo that can be seen to be normal in a video, when you have more context.

Ghost orbs is one of the evidences you should check out for in Phasmophobia in determining the type of ghost.

As the main aim of the game is to find out which ghost it is, checking for ghost orbs is a must, unless you already have three other evidences.

Here’s how you can spot ghost orbs in Phasmophobia.

Determine which room the ghost is in

The first thing you should do is determine where the ghost likely is.

The best way to do so is by using either the thermometer and EMF reader. If you’re playing in a team, then each member can carry a different device for checking.

Once you’ve determined the room where the ghost probably is ( by way of low temperature or EMF reading ), get your video cameras from the van.

Set up the camera

If you’ve bought a tripod, even better.

Place the video camera on the tripod and bring the whole thing to the room / area where the ghost is.

Try to get a bigger angle of the room / area when placing the camera. Typically, you should place the camera at corners or ends of the room, facing the potential ghost’s location.

Remember to switch on the camera ( green light ).

How to look for ghost orbs

Now, head back to the van and look at the monitor.

Look at the feed from the camera you placed in the room. Just stare at the screen until you see the ghost orb popping out. It may take over 10 seconds.

Ghost orb looks like a speck of dust . It’s quite tiny and you can easily miss it.

If after a long time nothing shows up, there may be no ghost orbs. However, it can sometimes be bugged.

Try placing more than one camera in the area to be sure. Sometimes the orbs appear slightly further from where the ghost is.

Every now and then I get asked to look at orb artifacts to determine if they are paranormal, a ghost, or just dust. Im usually dragged into defending my position that orb artifacts are not proof of the paranormal or ghosts. The paranormal community is very divided on the subject of orbs. Specifically if some orb artifacts found in digital media are the result of ghosts. I have listened to both sides for and against, to the point of exhaustion.

What Is An Orb Artifact

In the paranormal realm orbs are generally defined as a semi-luminescent spherical shaped object. They may be seen with the naked eye but generally are discovered later on media, such as photographs. Some orbs upon further visual inspection are believed to have faces and other recognizable forms within the orb. Some members of the paranormal community deeply believe some orbs are the physical manifestation of a departed spirit or soul.

Governing Laws For Orbs

Some paranormalist’s have gone further and created rules to govern paranormal orbs. First, Orbs must appear to emit their own light source. Secondly, orbs must appear to have self governed propulsion. Lastly, orbs must appear to move in an intelligent flight path. Proponents of orb rules, will ignore any orbs that fail to meet those requirements. Evidence based paranormal groups are more reluctant to conclude orbs as a source of spirits or ghosts.

Natural Phenomena Or Ghosts

Orb artifacts are very close in nature to an actual light phenomenon known as  ball lightning. Ball lightening is a documented real natural phenomena. Countless people throughout history have experienced ball lightening. Ball lightning is defined as a atmospheric, point charge, electrical phenomenon . The term ball lightening refers to an illuminous, spherical electric object. The ball can vary from pea-sized to several meters in diameter. This phenomena is usually associated with severe thunderstorms. Ball lightening may last for long periods of time, and move in unexpected ways, such as hovering or following a trajectory. Ball lightning might explain some instances for orbs. yet fails to explain, those observed only on captured media.

Dust To Dust

A majority of all orb artifacts are the result of, dust (particulate matter), bugs, or condensed water (mist or droplets). Dust is omnipresent, and almost impossible to rule out as an explanation. Scoffing at every orb photo and summarily dismissing them based on dust, doesn’t give credit to the complexity of science. There are many natural forces at work such as gravity, particulate mass, electrical charges, heat transfer, air currents, and so forth. Little specks of in-significant dust particles and how they travel through space is much more complex than one may realize.

Orb Zone Theory OZT

Orb artifacts may appear spherical but when the physical matter is viewed under a microscope they are not. So why does non circular matter produce spheres on media? The best answer is a theory known as Orb Zone Theory (OZT), “Orbs are essentially an, extension of the ‘circle of confusion’ explanation given by camera manufacturers and serious photographers.” In explanation, an orb is a circle of confusion (complexity), which appears as an out of focus highlight.

The orb debate is likely to continue as long as the paranormal is being investigated. The bottom line is orbs can be produced by natural means and are not proof of a spiritual manifestation. The safe conclusion is that the presence of Orbs should be scrutinized heavily.

After all stolen eyes were returned to their rightful owners, Eduardo destroyed the Orb.

• On page 12 of Ghostbusters Issue #5 , the Orb makes a non-canon cameo on the shelf to the left of Ray Stantz .
• On page one of Ghostbusters Volume 2 Issue #15 , the Orb of Moldova has a non-canon reference on a poster outside the Marine Air Terminal, on the right of the entryway.
