New Mexico Police Catch Mysterious Ghostly Intruder on Camera

New Mexico cops catch ghostly intruder on camera.

— -- Hopefully the "Ghostbusters" are available to investigate this one.

Police in Espanola, New Mexico, are trying to figure out what human-shaped, blurry, translucent figured was captured on camera strolling across a locked area of their station Saturday night.

The video shows the figure walking through a chain link fence and slowly walking out again.

"It walks through the old transport cages," said police detective Solomon Romero. "There's not a way for it to get through, but it walks through that."

Officer Karl Romero was on duty that ghostly night.

"At first, I thought it was a fly or moth. Then, I saw the legs ... and it was a human," he said. "But not a real human. No - a ghost."

Romero reported the eerie sight to his supervisors, who said there is no way to enter or leave the area without opening gates that would sound an alarm.

While some believe the video defies logic, others say they have heard and seen the ghost around the station for years, but have never caught it on camera. Police said their station wasn't built on an ancient burial ground and that no one has ever died inside the building.

"A lot of officers have seen certain things," said Karl Romero. "Some officers have felt someone breathing down their necks as they're working in the briefing room."

The tales have convinced some officers that the supernatural sightings are real.

"I do believe it was something," said Solomon Romero. "It was hard to say but I do believe in ghosts."

Police in New Mexico show surveillance footage of what they believe is a ghost

Police in New Mexico are investigating a suspected case of trespassing at their station - by a possible ghost.

Surveillance footage captured a spectral figure moving through the building last Saturday night.

The translucent shape appears to walk through a chain-link fence and then back again.

Officers say there is no way to get out of the secure area without triggering an alarm.

Francisco Galvan, records supervisor at the station, told Sky News: "It's definitely pretty strange.

"You can see it's not an insect crawling across the lens. You can see it has legs.

"I do believe in ghosts and I believe it could be some entity or spirit."

He said that officers have reported unexplained sightings at the station in the middle of the night.

"We have people on graveyard shifts here who say they have seen strange things out of the periphery of their vision," he said.

Detective Karl Romero, who was on duty that night, reported the eerie incident to his superiors.

"At first, I thought it was a fly or moth," he told local media. "Then, I saw the legs and it was a human.

"But not a real human. No, a ghost."

Such spooky goings-on might prompt paranormal investigators to wonder if the station was built on some ancient burial ground.

But according to Mr Galvan, the site formerly hosted a call centre and contracting business.

There was something strange in this neighbourhood and luckily it was outside a police station – after officers observed an eerie orb-like figure on CCTV skulking around their premises last Saturday.

Detective Karl Romero was checking the surveillance cameras of his station in Espanola, New Mexico, when he saw what looked like a ghost within a secured area outside the building.

He told Action 7 News that he even saw it move through cages and a gate as it traversed the car park, before alerting it to his supervisors.

“At first I thought it was a podilla, a fly or moth, then I saw the legs and it was a human. But not a real human. No. A ghost,” Mr Romero told Khon2 .

Records Supervisor Francisco Galvan told Sky News : “It's definitely pretty strange. “You can see it's not an insect crawling across the lens. You can see it has legs.”

Officers added that as far as they were aware there was no ancient burial ground beneath the station and neither had any inmates or police died there.

Ghost-like figure caught on camera at New Mexico police station

Seeing is believing for police officers in one city in New Mexico.

On a routine night at the police station in Espanola, New Mexico, surveillance cameras picked up images of what some officers believe to be a ghost.

In the black-and-white surveillance footage, a whitish blur appears to walk in a distinctly humanlike way across a secured area and through a locked gate.

“At first I thought it was a podilla, a fly or moth, then I saw the legs, and it was a human. But not a real human. No, a ghost,” Espanola police officer Karl Romero told the local TV station KOAT Albuquerque .

Detectives told KOAT that there is no way in or out of the secured area filmed in the surveillance video without opening a gate that would sound an alarm. They added that there is no logical explanation for the spooky image captured on video — no lighting issue or technical glitch.

But Detective Solomon Romero told KOAT that he may have an explanation.

“A lot of officers have seen certain things,” he said. “Some officers have felt someone breathing down their necks as they're working in the briefing room.”

Could there in fact be a ghost — or several — in the Espanola police station? Or are officers just imagining things?

For Detective Romero, the answer is clear.

“I do believe in ghosts,” he said. “It's hard to say but I do believe it was a ghost.”

Police officer believes ghost is haunting station (video).

David Moye

Senior Reporter, HuffPost

The police station is Espanola, New Mexico, is set up with state-of-the-art gates and alarms designed to keep out intruders, but the security measures don't seem to be doing a good job of scaring away ghostly trespassers.

On Saturday night, Officer Karl Romero was keeping an eye on surveillance cameras around the station when he spotted something strange in the sally port, or secured entryway.

"At first I thought it was a podilla -- a fly or moth -- then I saw the legs ... and it was a human," he told KOAT TV. "But not a real human. No, a ghost."

The surveillance video of the incident shows a blurry bright, white figure walking across the gated area at night, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

Romero reported the spooky sighting to his superiors. Some, like Detective Solomon Romero, agreed a ghost could be the only possible explanation.

Romero told the station there is no way in or out of the secured area without the gates opening and an alarm sounding.

In addition, other detectives have heard strange noises and seen unexplained images in the lobby of the building, too.

“I do believe in ghosts," Romero told KOAT TV. "I don’t know (what exactly was on the video), but we’ve had some unsolved murders in the area."

However, the police station is not built on an Indian burial ground, he said.

Officers may be willing to believe the strange video shows a ghost, but paranormal investigator Bryan Bonner of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society isn't impressed.

"That has to be one of the worst videos that I have seen," he told HuffPost by email. "The image appears to have been caused by a small insect (possibly a small spider) crawling on the plastic case that houses the lens."

Bonner said that the fact the police are reporting this alleged ghost sighting may make it seem credible, but says law enforcement officers are given little training in analyzing "ghost" videos.

"Because of that they fall back on the same biases as most people and jump the the conclusion that if they cannot explain it it has to be a ghost, when it is very easy to explain."

Officers at a police station in New Mexico believe they are dealing with more than just criminals.

One cop at the post in Espanola believes he came in contact with a ghost on Saturday night - and has video evidence to prove it.

Officer Karl Romero was stationed in the surveillance room monitoring the CCTV cameras when he noticed something moving in the gated area.

Romero claims that a spirit-like creature could be seen moving across a sally port, which is a controlled entryway completely sealed off.
