Description [ ]

The Black Dye Merchant is a special vendor that has to be found by exploring, as he will be found inside a dark cave that is hidden within the bamboo forest East of Kawamata Village in Kushi prefecture. Once found, he will sell to Jin a variety of vanity visuals that are deep black, as if they are the very shadows. While the selection is small at first, the player will gain access to more options as the player progresses through the story.

The Black Dye Merchant resembles the look of the Trapper , except his garb is deep black. He is stationed inside a cave that is filled with the Black Dye Merchant's tools and belongings, with him standing at the end of the cave. He keeps himself busy by mixing dyes in a large jar.

Ghost of Tsushima: Where to Find Black and White Dye Merchants

In Ghost of Tsushima, Jin can sport some stylish threads dyed in a range of colors, but finding the Black and White Dye Merchants is tricky.

As players dig deeper into Ghost of Tsushima 's world, not only does its beauty continue to awe, but the secrets buried on the island are slowly being revealed. While the search for crafting items in Ghost of Tsushima is relatively straight forward, certain dyes are proving to be a bit more challenging to find.

Ghost of Tsushima 's crafting system isn't a convoluted system to navigate, with the game focusing on a few key upgrades and aesthetics that can tweak the experience just enough. With that said, finding some of the specific dyes can be a challenge and require some detective work to uncover, much like the Long Bow quest in Hiyoshi Springs . The dyes aren't essential to completing the game, but not being able to track down the elusive white & black dyes would be frustrating for a player going for a certain look for their character.

White Dye Merchant

Located to the west of the Wanderer's Pass in the Izuhara region, the White Dye Merchant is accessible from the start of Act 1, but it is a bit of a journey to reach him. Up on a small mountain in the northern part of Izuhara, the merchant is accessible via paved roads from the west, or a more challenging climb up the mountain from the east. At the top of the small mountain is a tower with white fabric hanging around it, this is the White Dye Merchant's shop. He will sell crisp, white colorways for these items:

Longbow — Nine-Tailed Fox — 5 flowers

Traveler's Attire — Graceful Pathfinder — 10 flowers

Ronin Attire — Moonlight Slayer — 10 flowers

Kensei Armor — Pure Reckoning — 10 flowers

Gosaku's Armor — Island Bulwark — 10 flowers

Pure Intent Headband — 20 flowers

Black Dye Merchant

The Black Dye Merchant is found further along in the game, slightly southwest of Urashima's village, in the easternmost reaches of the Toyotama region. Unlike the White Dye Merchant, who stands bathed in sun atop a mountain, the Black Dye Merchant has set up shop in a cave tucked into a bamboo thicket. The merchant displays his black fabric offerings outside the cave, and inside he will sell you some sleek, black colorways for these items:

Half Bow — Piercing Shadows — 5 flowers

Tadayori's Armor — Hunter at Dusk — 10 flowers

Traveler's Attire — Journey Into Night — 10 flowers

Sakai Clan Armor — Lord of Night — 10 flowers

Gosaku's Armor — Unwavering Mountain — 10 flowers

Ghost Armor — Shadow of Justice — 10 flowers

Kensei Armor — Kensei Armor — 10 flowers

While these two merchants are a little harder to find, players should be able to locate their shops if they methodically make their way across the island of Tsushima. Unlike the quest for the Sly Cooper gear , finding the merchant is the only difficult part of this, as players can fast travel back to get new threads in an instant.

Changing up Jin's look doesn't necessarily do anything for his stats, but it allows the player to make the hero look good as he slices and dices through Mongol forces. This is in contrast to something like Steel, one of the weapon crafting items that does impact Jin's strength. Finding unlimited Steel in Ghost of Tsushima is a big help for players looking to boost that attack stat.

The Black and White Dye Merchants may be tricky to find, but their work makes for some of the coolest looks in the game.

Ghost of Tsushima is available now on PS4.

Ghost of Tsushima Black And White Armor Dye: Where To Find The Merchants

Here's how to find these secret dye merchants in Ghost of Tsushima.

By Matt Espineli on July 27, 2020 at 10:29PM PDT

While the merchants you find in the world of Ghost of Tsushima offer a decent range of purchasable colors for your outfits, you might notice they lack some key colors: black and white . This is because these particular colors are only sold by specialized dealers hidden in the world. If you're a samurai fashion aficionado, then you'll want to track these merchants down to further widen the choices available in your outfit color palette. You can also get new colorways for your Half Bow and Long Bow here.

Finding both the White Dye and Black Dye Merchants is required for unlocking the Monochrome Masters Hidden Trophy . The White Dye Merchant can be accessed as soon as you gain access to exploring the world, as you can find him in the Izuhara region. But to access the Black Dye Merchant--who's in the Toyotoma region--you'll first need to reach Act 2 in the story. If you're not there yet, read our Ghost of Tsushima Act 1 walkthrough to ensure you make it with no issues. Also, you need Flowers to purchase these dyes, so if you need help finding flowers, consult our crafting resource guide for suggestions.

As mentioned, you can find the White Dye Merchant as soon as you gain access to the open world at the start of Act 1. When you arrive in the general vicinity, you can either take the paved roads from the west or approach from the east and climb the mountain via handholds to get to him. Ghost of Tsushima: Where to Find the Black Dye Merchant

piercing shadows ghost of tsushima

Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima is their latest exclusive game for the PS4 and also easily one of the most highly anticipated video game releases of 2020. Aside from protecting his clan from the Mongols, Jin can also customize his armor with different colored dyes. Here’s where to find the black dye merchant in Ghost of Tsushima .

Finding the Black Dye Merchant in Ghost of Tsushima

As you travel across the island of Tsushima, you’ll find several merchants and armorers who can sell you a variety of different colored dyes. However, black –one of the most basic colors– is conspicuously missing from their stock, and requires a bit more effort to obtain.

The black dye merchant can only be located once you reach the second act of the story, so you’ll have to play through quite a bit before you get to that point. You’ll need to head east in the Toyotoma region and find the merchant just southwest of Urashima’s village.

black dye merchant ghost of tsushima

Look for the merchant inside the cave surrounded by bamboo trees, and you’ll be able to browse his stock and buy the dye in exchange for flowers. We’ve included a list of his available items down below:

  • Piercing Shadows: 5 flowers
  • Hunter at Dusk: 10 flowers
  • Journey into Night: 10 flowers
  • Lord of Night: 10 flowers
  • Unwavering Mountain: 10 flowers
  • Shadow of Justice: 10 flowers
  • Kensei Armor: 10 flowers

Flowers are readily available in the open world, and are easily identified by their white petals and green stems. Whenever you spot them, just head over and pick them up with the R2 button. You can grab them whether you’re on foot or on a horse.

That’s all you need to know about where to find the black dye merchant in Ghost of Tsushima . Be sure to check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.

Where to find the black and white dye merchants in Ghost of Tsushima

Monochromacy is the spice of life.

piercing shadows ghost of tsushima

After Jin Sakai and his samurai brethren failed to repel the Mongolian invasion in Ghost of Tsushima , it falls upon Jin to rally a rebellion to liberate the Japanese island. He begins his quest with highly unflattering attire, but it doesn't take long before you can acquire new armor and add some visual flair to your clothing by speaking to some dye merchants found throughout the game.

Here's how you can find the elusive white and black dye merchants to add some flair to your outfit(s).

Who are the Black and white dye merchants in Ghost of Tsushima ?

In Ghost of Tsushima , you can purchase new dyes for your armor from any merchant found throughout Tsushima, allowing you to give your gear more color. Dyes are purchased using flowers, which can be found growing all over the island or you can use the guiding wind to do so.

Regular dye merchants set up shop in nearly every in-game community like a small town or survivors camp. These merchants usually sell the same inventory. The monochromatic merchants with black and white dyes are different. Each one can only be found in a single location and they only sell dyes based on their specialty color. This is the only way to dye your clothing black or white. If you visit both, it'll also earn you a trophy called Monochromatic Masters.

Where do you find the white dye merchant in Ghost of Tsushima ?

You can find the white dye merchant shacked up in Tsushima's first region, Izuhara. They'll be located at the peak of the mountain within Wanderer's Pass. There will be a bunch of white banners by their home. You can also fast-travel there if you've already completed the Kashine Bamboo Strike , which is located right by the merchant.

Black Dye Merchant Location, Ghost of Tsushima, White Dye Merchant Location

The white dye merchant will have six goodies ripe for your purchasing. Each one is a primarily white dye, as the merchant's title implies. Here's his inventory:

  • Nine-Tailed Fox dye for your Long Bow (5 Flowers)
  • Graceful Pathfinder for your Traveller's Attire (10 Flowers)
  • Moonlight Slayer for your Ronin Attire (10 Flowers)
  • Pure Reckoning for your Kensei Armor (10 Flowers)
  • Island Bulwark for your Gosaku Armor (10 Flowers)
  • Pure Intent Headband (a real live headband )

Where do you find the black dye merchant in Ghost of Tsushima ?

You can find the arguably more popular black dye merchant's abode in the second region, Toyotama. Unlike the white dye merchant, the black dye merchant lives in a cave under a large rock formation. There will be numerous black banners by the merchant's home, making it near impossible to miss. You can find it Northwest of the Yarikawa Stronghold and slightly east of Kawamata Village.

Black Dye Merchant Location, Ghost of Tsushima, White Dye Merchant Location

The black dye merchant is pedaling seven goodies ripe for your purchasing. Each one is a primarily black dye, as the merchant's title implies. Here's his inventory.

  • Piercing Shadows dye for your Half Bow (5 Flowers)
  • Hunter At Dusk dye for your Tadayori's Armor (10 Flowers)
  • Journey Into Night dye for your Traveller's Attire (10 Flowers)
  • Lord of Night dye for your Sakai Clan Armor (10 Flowers)
  • Unwavering Mountain dye for your Gosaku's Armor (10 Flowers)
  • Shadow of Justice dye for your Ghost Armor (10 Flowers)
  • Dark Promise dye for your Kensei Armor (10 Flowers)

Is there a third dye merchant in Ghost of Tsushima ?

With one dye merchant in Izuhara and another in Toyotama, it stands to reason a third monochromatic master would have a shop in the final region, Kamiagata. Unfortunately, there's no new master to be found in Ghost of Tsushima 's final act.

However, there is a side-quest tale at Sago Mill, detailing that the town was once known for their blue dyes before being afflicted by a string of deaths.

If you'd like to further spruce up your wardrobe, try obtaining the Kensei Armor .

Ghost of Tsushima is now available for the PS4.
