If you’d rather take the wheel than the back seat, the Wraith is the Rolls-Royce for you. At over two-and-one-half tons it’s no track thrasher, but you certainly have enough left over for one of those, right? The Wraith is the most driver-oriented Rolls-Royce, maybe in a long time.

Well, it costs as much as a house (in some ‘hoods, more than) and is not for the shy and retiring. You won’t go anywhere without creating a scene and everyone will wonder if you’re somebody important. (Of course; you are.) If you can’t stand that heat, drive something else.

What's New?

For 2016 the Wraith has standard massaging front seats, Adaptive Headlights, new colors, exterior mirrors that unfold/fold with the remote, Oak Cluster wood in place of Elm Cluster and changes to trim. A new optional cast VIN plate gives an “impactful accent” when the door opens.

Amazing Factoid: Significant numbers of Rolls-Royce buyers are in their mid-40s. Thus, Rolls is modernizing its act (although not reducing prices) as shown by the 2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith coupe and its convertible stablemate, the Dawn. At this level, though, it’s less about the cars’ capabilities and more about the experience of simply owning one. Many high-end luxury cars (Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, BMW 6 Series) match and even beat the Wraith on technology and performance, and for less money, but a Rolls they are not. Sign up for the Wraith or Dawn and you get unmistakable recognition anywhere, an image second to none, craftsmanship bordering on unimaginable, a wondrous 6.6-liter V12 engine and an experience that might transcend the vocabulary to describe it.

Driving the Used 2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith

It’s well over 17 feet long and two-and-one-half tons heavy; the frivolity of nimbleness has been excised from the Rolls dictionary. The 2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith exists not to connect you to the pavement but to isolate you from the world, and it does that admirably. A drive down any road is beyond merely serene, and to describe the cabin quiet, the suspension competence, the engine capability, the totality of the experience, is to quickly run out of clichés. In tighter quarters and closer traffic it can be problematical, and for several reasons. For one thing, it’s really pretty big. For another, the consequences of dinging it can be eye-openingly costly. Still, given a solid dose of both confidence and skill, the Wraith can be hustled around a bit and, according to Rolls-Royce, the 624-horsepower twin-turbo V12 can take it to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

Interior Comfort

Nobody does automotive interiors better than Rolls-Royce, and the 2016 Wraith and Dawn are prime examples of the best there is. It should go without saying that only the finest materials end up in a Rolls, and “sumptuous” doesn’t even begin to describe it. “Fastidiously impeccable” does not do justice to the level of fit and finish of the buttery leather, the exotic woods, the carpet woven from the wool of lambs. A Rolls-Royce costs a lot of money, and Rolls makes certain that Wraith and Dawn owners can see exactly what that money bought.

Exterior Styling

Starting with the unmistakable Rolls-Royce grille and the winged Spirit of Ecstasy, flowing into that long fastback shape, highlighting with that incredible swath of chrome around the windows, noticing the door handles that can only mean the doors are hinged at the rear, and it all comes together that not only is this undeniably a Rolls, it’s something special even beyond that. Even though the Wraith is aimed at the youngest end of the Rolls’ target buyer, the stunning presence of its exterior says clearly it’s for those who have already made it and are still on the way up.

Favorite Features

STARLIGHT HEADLINER A headliner glowing with more than 1,300 fiber-optic-light pipes sounds goofy until you sit in the Rolls-Royce Wraith. Then it seems magical and classy. Pro tip: The lights can be customized to match any night sky you prefer.

SPIRIT OF ECSTASY It’s a little thing but we’re suckers for it. The lady with wings who flies through the air atop the Rolls-Royce grille is known as the Spirit of Ecstasy. In solid silver, she’s $6,525 extra; uplit is $4,025; illuminated is $7,850; gold plated is $10,075. We’ll take her in gold.

Standard Features

As expected, the “base” 2016 Rolls-Royce Wraith and its companion, the convertible Dawn, include pretty much everything you can imagine in a car. Power memory seats, 4-zone climate control, a navigation-equipped infotainment system and 20-inch wheels with perpetually upright, free-floating logos are all included as standard equipment. A wide variety of interior and exterior color choices is also offered at no extra charge. And of course there’s the intangible but just as important appeal of letting the world know you’re successful enough to arrive in a Rolls-Royce.

Factory Options

Part of the allure of owning a Rolls-Royce is the ability to customize it to a buyer’s taste, and it can result in a one-of-a-kind car. Among the options are a starlight headliner that costs over $14,000 alone, wheel packages that approach 10 grand, a probably infinite selection of paint colors and treatments, a fixed-glass roof and personalized umbrellas (just for you!) that store within the doors. An optional Wraith package lists for $39,995 — more than enough to buy a pretty nice car on its own. Safety and tech offerings include radar cruise control, night-vision system and lane-departure warning.

Engine & Transmission

The 2016 Wraith and Dawn are powered by Rolls-Royce’s glorious 6.6-liter V12, with twin turbochargers and rated at 624 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. It has an 8-speed automatic transmission. If there’s a more refined automotive combination of awesome power and unobtrusive delivery we’d like to know what it is. According to Rolls-Royce, the transmission uses GPS information to know what the road ahead has in store and then makes gear-selection decisions based upon that information. All in all, this is a magnificent powertrain. The fuel economy is not great, but who cares?

We had been shopping around for a couple weeks for a used Q5. These guys were super easy to work with; they set up test drives for whatever we wanted and were really low key. Not sure I've ever been less pressured to buy a car at a dealership before. When we decided what we wanted, there wasn't the usual haggling or chatting with managers. A Florida man's wife had her rare $200K purple Rolls Royce stolen. He used a plane banner to find it.

• A Florida man said his wife's 2016 Rolls Royce was stolen out of their garage.
• Bob Benyo said he used a sky banner to solicit tips in exchange for a reward. 
• After hundreds of calls and texts to Benyo, a "nice" woman found the car outside her Airbnb.

The Twilight Purple 2016 Rolls Royce Wraith Florida resident Bob Benyo gave his wife a rare one — he estimates about six of them are in the country.

"It stands out. I mean, it's kind of hard to miss," Benyo told Insider.

So when two people followed his wife to their home and stole the car on September 21, he knew he had to get it back.

"I can't replace that car. Even though it's not brand new — it's a 2016 — it's special. It was an anniversary gift," Benyo told Insider.

Benyo said he worked with law enforcement, combed through surveillance footage, and reached out to Rolls Royce for assistance. However, his most useful tool in recovering the car was his very own business: a sky banner company.

'My wife and kids were literally one room away'

Benyo told Insider that the incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon when his wife drove home with their two kids, seven and nine. A car followed her home without her knowledge and parked across the street in front of their neighbor's home in a silver Mercedes in their Miami neighborhood .

Benyo said surveillance video captured from outside his home shows the two suspects hop out of their car as soon as one of the three garage doors closed on his house. Benyo said police with the North Miami Police Department believe they used a remote device to open the garage door.

After rummaging through the garage, Benyo said the thieves were able to find the keys to the Rolls Royce on a side counter. He said that his mother-in-law pulled into the driveway while the robbery was taking place and wondered why the garage door was open, but did not see the suspects. Benyo said he believed they were also trying to steal his Aston Martin .

He later learned from police the suspects were armed: "My wife and kids were literally one room away with one door in between them," Benyo said.

He contacted local law enforcement and called Rolls Royce, asking to use their tracking system to locate the car. This was just the beginning of Benyo's journey to return the luxury car back to his wife.

He said "immediately after" speaking with police, he decided to take some matters into his own hands.

'Stolen Purple Rolls-Royce Reward'

Benyo said he's known for using his company, Aerial Banners, to send unusual messages. He once used a banner to ask a business to pay him money he said he was owed.

He used one of his planes to tow a sign asking the citizens of Miami-Dade County if they'd seen the regal dark purple automobile worth over $200,000.

"Stolen Purple Rolls-Royce Reward" the aerial sign read, with a phone number attached.

He offered a $5,000 reward. And it worked: Soon, the tips came in.

Benyo told Insider he received 310 calls and messages in total, some of which included people wishing him luck. He said about 100 calls were legitimate tips, with people telling him they had seen the car.

"There was only one or two that were somewhat negative," Benyo said. "Like 'your car's ugly' or 'I hope you don't find your car.'"

It took days of searching, haggling with the people who stole it — who Benyo said were already being pursued by police for other crimes — and combing through tips until a call from a generous woman named Fay helped get the car back in his garage.

'Next time you should think about stealing a black one'

Eventually, Benyo got his first good lead: Someone was offering the Rolls Royce for rent on Telegram.

"I thought, 'Wow, that's really ballsy,'" Benyo said.

Benyo said he worked with private investigators and the person who sent the tip throughout that Saturday to infiltrate the chat and try to convince the thief to rent the car to him.

Eventually, Benyo, using the tipster's Telegram account , let the person offering the car for rent know that he was the owner trying to get his car back.

"I said 'I'm not trying to have the police meet you. Just park the car and walk away from it. I just want to get it back.'" Benyo told Insider.

The suspect kept pushing back, he said, telling Benyo that they knew it was a set-up, and refused. Benyo said he told the suspect that they would eventually be caught.

"I said 'next time you should think about maybe stealing a black one that blends in' — making jokes trying to make light of it and trying to get him to give it up. And I wasn't getting anywhere."

Then, right before midnight, Benyo said he got another tip. A woman renting an Airbnb in Fort Lauderdale said she saw the car parked outside her window in a neighborhood with a maze of streets difficult to maneuver.

"They found a great spot to park it," Benyo said.

Benyo said the woman — who only wanted to be identified as Fay — got the reward after police determined she wasn't involved with the people who took the Rolls Royce .

"It's getting a window replaced and some dings and scratches fixed and that's pretty much it," Benyo told Insider. "New keys of course being made. They're hot on the trail of the suspects. They told me they know who they are. So it's just a matter of time before they make the arrests."

Benyo said his family is relieved to have the car back but is taking extra precautions to secure their valuables, like storing their keys in a locked box and setting their alarms. Despite the negative experience, he said the entire incident had a silver lining.

"I think the most unique thing is the amount of people across Miami-Dade County, Fort Lauderdale, and across the country that took their time to reach out to me to just say 'Hey, man, I'm so sorry, I hope you get your car back.' And I thought that that was really, really unique… to this day, I still get random messages."

North Miami Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider. The Miami-Dade Police Department referred Insider to the NMPD.

A VIDEO showing Putin's massive motorcade roaring through Moscow forcing the city to a standstill has amazed viewers.

The video was uploaded to TikTok by @ROJER2345 and has gone viral with more than 150,000 likes.

The video starts by showing a clear road that has been closed for the motorcade.

Before long, the motorcade comes into view made up of 18 different vehicles.

These include police cars, unmarked official cars, luxury motors and even vans, most with flashing lights.

In the middle of it all is Putin's Aurus Senat, which looks suspiciously like a Rolls-Royce but is actually built in Russia.

One said: "This is how a president should be escorted."

Another: "It is important that presidents are escorted in this way."

The Aurus Senat is filled with natural wood and Russian leather and even has a champagne fridge.

The president uses this high-end car for ceremonial duties.

Vladimir Putin is usually spotted behind the wheel of the car despite being driven in this video.

The Aurus Senat uses a hybrid powertrain with a 4.4-litre V8 engine developed in collaboration with Porsche.
