I have an older 92 with the barrel band front sight and square notch rear. They are getting a little tough for my older eyes. What are you guys using instead?

Founder of the Single Shot section. A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have. 8 in the 10 ring, then I get a PING. Love my Garand.

Open up the rear sight to get more light around the front sight, if that's an option.

I am 70; had a 92 for a few years, but as I get older the further down the barrel the rear sight seems to get. I have a Williams 9436 rear sight but have not installed it yet; as it requires drilling and tapping. Thinking about getting one of the Skinner pep sights that replaces the safety.

My 45 colt had the sight on the front band. Is your rifle one without the, additional extra safe safety, on the top of the bolt? I put a marbles bullseye on mine and it is awsome. http://www.marblearms.com/rear-sights.html The dove tail on mine was extra wide so I made some brass shims from 0.005 stock to tighten things up. I'm using a Dr. Pearson no drill tactical rail with a 4x lighted recital scout scope.Tried a red dot but like the scope better.Rail take 5 minutes to install.

I had a hard time with the bullseye sight from Marlbles. I use progressive lenses and that sight gave me a hard time. Still have it if you want to give it a go. My suggestion is to use fire sights or get a red dot sight. https://store.stevesgunz.com/ I have a Noe scope mount on mine https://noebulletmolds.com/site/prod.../scope-mounts/ w/ a Burris 2x scope. This set up doesn't give a good cheek weld, more of a jaw weld, so I'm thinking of switching to a red dot. Don't get a tube type but a reflex, it will sit lower to the rifle. PM if you have questions.

I had an older Rossi that came to me missing the front barrel band - made a replacement from a chunk of steel, and made the sight blade about double width - then a wide square notch cut in the rear sight - it worked good and didnt alter the look of the gun - does yours have a steel front band ? maybe could TIG or braze up the blade and make it wider ? D & T the reciever for a williams peep Tang rear sight is an option The big headache is the barrel band front sight - you dont have any windage on a bolt mounted peep or a cheaper tang sight - the reciever mounted peep is a good option but I hear some Rossi's are tough steel to D & T

. FWIW, Winchester Model 92's & Model 94's used the same sights, and the sights meant for those guns can be readily used on the Browning & Rossi Model 92's. Generally, the mounting of a receiver peep sight on a Model 92 raises the line-of-sight, thus requiring a taller front sight to achieve zero - quite an issue with the barrel band front sight. I was able to keep the issue front, and zero the rifle, by mounting a Williams receiver sight intended for the Winchester Angle Eject 94AE atop the rear section of the Model 92 receiver sidewalls (1 D/T'd hole in each sidewall top) - and YES, the metal was one of the toughest I've ever had to D/T. That particular receiver sight is usable with the issue front sight because it carries the horizontal aperture bar behind the sight base, ILO atop the base - so I merely put a dab of orange paint onto the top rear face of the issue front sight blade.

Doesn’t someone make a peep sight that fits the rear sight dovetail?

Steve gunz used to have sights for Rossi on his web site. I wouldn't mind having a way to mount a Burris fastfire on one of the old rossi's

I installed a Williams 5D reciever sight for a Winchester 94 on a Rossi- but on the right side of the action because of the saddle ring. I had to reverse the aperture windage slide but it worked fine. For a barrel sight I liked replacing the factory rear sight with a Dockendorff wheel adjust sight. A FastFire could be mounted on the barrel by custom fitting a Weaver base to a drilled and tapped dovetail blank. I've been thinking about this one lately.... Sent from my SM-A716U using Tapatalk

I went with an old 5D peep rear sight and a white dot in front. For the front make a small divit on the front sight and fill with enamel.

Have you looked under the rear sight? Mine was drilled and tapped for a forward mount scope. I also tried the Steve's Gunzs peep sight that replaced the mickey mouse safety on top of the bolt. Siamese4570

I have the Steve's guns on my R92 and I like it.  I also have the scope mount and run a TRS25.

Yeah, Mean, which rail are you using? The right rail for the forward mount on the Rossi 92 is the P892 (picture below). It has a rise from rear to front that matches the barrel taper through the rail mounting area. Sadly, the P892 has been out of production for years. You can still find the P801 which has the same screw hole pattern, but it has no rise and would raise the point of impact well into or above the adjustment range of most Scout scopes. Rossi obviously doesn't think much about forward scopes.

Lots of good ideas from Noe, but it's way too tall. And the countersink holes are too deep to mill it down to the right height.
