Complete Guide to Halloween Spooktacular at SeaWorld Orlando
SeaWorld Orlando has been stepping up their game in recent years to become a major contender in the theme park Halloween season. SeaWorld is in its third year of hosting Howl-O-Scream , a separately ticketed, “after-hours,” adult-focused event that has joined the well-established Halloween traditions that already exist in the theme park. One of the most beloved of these is SeaWorld Orlando’s Halloween Spooktacular, the family-friendly daytime event that brings tricks and treats to guests. Enjoy our guide page on how to best navigate this experience!

What is SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular?
Halloween Spooktacular is an annual, kid-friendly event that features daytime trick-or-treating. An established favorite since its inception in 2008, this seasonal event engages a variety of fall festivities, from dance parties to costume contests to face painting. In 2023, the event will run on select dates from September 16 to October 31 in conjunction with the Halloween season and is included with park admission to SeaWorld Orlando . Of course, your favorite Sesame Street characters will meet you there, and guests of all ages are welcome to dress in costume. However, for those of us ages 13 and up, costume face masks and hoods are not permitted as part of costumes. Face paint is not permitted on any guest no matter the age (unless on-site artists do the painting).
What is there to do during SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular?
Halloween spooktacular activities:.
- Trick-or-Treat Trail
- Halloween Dance Party
- Meet a Mermaid
The primary attraction of this seasonal event is the trick-or-treat trail. Sometimes called “the candy trail,” the trick-or-treat trail is exactly what it sounds like – a string of festive candy stations and booths for kids to play a trick, or (far more likely) get a treat! To participate in this activity, each trick-or-treater will need to use a SeaWorld trick-or-treat reusable bag (more on those later).
If you choose to sport your Halloween best, Fridays are a fin-tastic day to visit SeaWorld Orlando as costume contests are held weekly in the Journey to Atlantis Plaza. Get creative (while still following the park’s rules) for a chance to win a special prize!
Trick-or-treaters can take a break in their candy hunting to enjoy the festive atmosphere on a stage featured on the trail. This stage will host a Scarecrow Halloween Dance Party, providing music for kids to show off their moves. It might be worth noting that it stays hot in Florida for a while, so if you’re imagining crisp fall air and weather suited for apple picking, think again. Considering this, many families bring alternate clothing for their younger members to avoid overheating from all the activity.
In a distinctly Florida move, there are also friendly Halloween mermaids to interact with guests and heighten the fantastical experience during each event day. A number of other characters are also featured throughout the trail and vary day to day. All of these attractions can be found along the candy trail, located along the side of the lagoon at the center of SeaWorld. The entrance for many of the Halloween Spooktacular activities is typically near the Dolphin Nursery.
Other festivities…
This year, SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular features a Pumpkin Garden, where guests can search for pumpkin fish or hear a story from the Pumpkin Queen.
Head over to Sesame Street Land for the neighborhood’s not-to-be-missed Halloween parade, where Elmo, The Count, and many other residents dress in their Spooktacular best. At select times throughout the day, young and old, eager listeners gather around Big Bird’s nest to hear some of his favorite Halloween tales during Storytime with Big Bird.
If your little one has a creative spirit, wander between Sesame Street Land and Wild Arctic for a Cookie Decorating and Craft Area. Crafts are included with your admission, while cookie decorating kits are available at an additional cost.
A final (and enjoyable) character experience is Count von Count’s Spooktacular Breakfast. Families can purchase this experience to enjoy a delicious breakfast and take advantage of unique character photo opportunities at Seafire Grill . This dining experience must be booked in advance!
How much does SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular cost?
Access to Halloween Spooktacular is included with park admission to SeaWorld Orlando, and you cannot attend Spooktacular without a daytime ticket to SeaWorld Orlando. The only other cost requirement is using a SeaWorld trick-or-treat reusable bag to participate in the candy trail. These bags can be purchased across the park, with the easiest purchase being at the large gift shop ( SeaWorld Store ) at the main entrance. These cute bags are reasonably priced, and since they are truly reusable, you can use them any time you come back to trick-or-treat.
What other Halloween options are there at SeaWorld?
If you find Halloween Spooktacular a little too G-rated for your crowd, try coming back to SeaWorld after hours for Howl-O-Scream . Although not included with park admission, Howl-O-Scream is an affordable addition to your day, with tickets starting at just $42.99 for up to seven additional hours at the park, depending on the night you choose. You can view our guide page and get details about this event here .
Can I bring my own food and drink to SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular?
In the past, visitors have found bringing your own food to be an easy way to save a few bucks and increase the overall efficiency of the day, especially when there are lots of people involved. Unfortunately, most of the theme parks in Central Florida have put the kibosh on this practice, and SeaWorld is one of them. No outside food, drinks, or coolers are allowed in the park, but there are a few exceptions to this. For one, you can bring baby food and formula in with you, or (very) small snacks for a picky toddler. If you have severe food allergies, you can also bring in food to accommodate your needs, but you will need to check in with Park Security or Guest Relations when you arrive so they can clear your belongings.
SeaWorld attendees can take advantage of the All-Day Dining Deal . With this deal, you can dine at participating locations once every 90 minutes. Yep, that means you can pick up an entree, dessert or side, and non-alcoholic beverage and then do it all over again in 90 minutes. Adult tickets cost $49.99, and child tickets are $24.99. While the kids don’t get the full entree option, they are able to pick up a kids’ meal at participating locations every hour, all day.
The All-Day Dining Deal is valid for redemption at a variety of quick-service restaurants that offer an assortment of food choices. From classic burgers to kabobs, this is a great offer for everyone, even your party’s pickiest eaters. Valid dining redemption locations are located throughout the park so you never have to venture far off your path to grab a bite to satiate your appetite.
When should I go to SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular?
This year, Halloween Spooktacular will run on select days starting on Saturday, September 16 and host its final day on Tuesday, October 31. Below is the 2023 schedule for SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular:
11 AM to 1 Hour Prior to Park Close Saturdays & Sundays: 9/16 – 10/29 Monday: 10/30 Tuesday: 10/31
We recommend going in September if you are interested in lower crowds. Families who go in the mornings certainly tend to have cooler temperatures than those who come by in the late afternoon or early evening.
What else is there to do at SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular?
Of course, since Halloween Spooktacular is included with park admission , you and your family will have access to everything SeaWorld Orlando has to offer. Recently, SeaWorld Orlando was voted #1 Theme Park in the USA Today 10Best Awards, with one of its flagship rides, Mako, receiving the same accolade in Best Roller Coaster. Not into big coasters? That’s OK. SeaWorld is a park that provides real variety for visitors. Guests of all ages will revel in the spectacles of Orca Encounter or Dolphin Adventures shows . Your animal lovers can come face to face with majestic sea turtles or even pet and feed stingrays. Little ones can spend sunny days on Sesame Street Land , enjoying age-appropriate rides and cooling off at the Rubber Duckie Water Works splash pad. Adults can sample the many seasonal drinks and food options that are available at kiosks throughout the park. These kiosks vary by season, but the treats they offer are always sure to complement your day at SeaWorld.
What if I want to do more?
If you find your day at SeaWorld isn’t enough, there are two other SeaWorld parks in Orlando – Discovery Cove and Aquatica, and with the warm Florida weather, both are great options through the fall.
Discovery Cove is an immersive resort where guests can swim with the animals they’ve seen in aquariums. Comparably priced to other theme parks, Discovery Cove offers all-inclusive tickets, including unlimited food and drink, supplies such as sunscreen and a wet suit, and experiences like swimming with sea creatures. Guests can also upgrade their tickets to purchase experiences like swimming with Bottlenose Dolphins.
Close by, Aquatica is the water theme park for those who agree that a day by the pool just isn’t enough. In keeping with SeaWorld standards, guests can see marine animals throughout their day, but what sets this park apart from the others are the rides, slides, and pools available for recreation and relaxation alike.
No matter which parks you choose to visit, we recommend purchasing your tickets here to get the best deal and get you started on your vacation!

SeaWorld Orlando’s Spooktacular 2022

SeaWorld Orlando is bringing the Halloween fun for guests of all ages with two Halloween events in Spooktacular by day and Howl-O-Scream by night. Both events run through Halloween, October 31st at Sea World Orlando.
Howl-O-Scream is a separately ticketed event that another one of writers recently went to and reviewed.
My husband and I took our children, aged 8 and 3, to the daytime event, Spooktacular. The children friendly Halloween event runs through the rest of October on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11am to one hour prior to park close. The event is also running on Halloween day, Monday, October 31st. Spooktacular is included in regular park admission.

Last year, I was critical of SeaWorld for a lack of signage within the park to navigate the Spooktacular event. Perhaps they read my previous article because I was relieved to see more signs guiding the way to the start of the Treat Trails. My son also insisted on getting park map, and within the map is a guide to the Spooktacular event. I thank Sea World for having more of their signage to guide guests to this event.

As for the event, it was much the same as it was in previous years. There is a Treat Trail where guests of all ages can Trick-or-Treat for different kinds of candy. This year, it seemed that the treats available were Tootsie Rolls, Smarties, Sweet Tarts, Frooties, Gummies, different kinds of lollypops, and Lays Potato Chips. Each station has a team member dishing out the candy through two chutes on both sides of their booth. When we visited, none of the stations were out of candy. I saw multiple candy runners coming to refill the team members with candy.

Pro-tip: Bring your own bag for Trick-or-Treating throughout the park. They do not give you even a small bag. They do have reusable small bags with cute Halloween themed sea creatures on them for $3.99. The website says you need one of these bags to Trick-or-Treat, but I saw plenty of people with different bags.

Children can dress up for the event in their Halloween costumes. My children were just in Halloween clothing, but they could have come in this year’s Halloween costume. We came late in the day from another commitment, so we decided against costumes much to my daughter’s dismay.
Beside the candy, guests can meet a mermaid and other Halloween characters including some friendly witches. There was also a dance party near Kraken with a cowboy costumed DJ spinning Halloween and upbeat, kid-friendly music. My son enjoyed dancing in the area in front of the DJ booth. The DJ did come out from his area to interact with kids and adults alike. He also encouraged all of us to walk the Treat Trails as many times as we could.
Other events that are included in Spooktacular that we did not partake in are:
Count von Count’s Spooktacular Breakfast at the SeaFire Grill where Count von Count and friends interacts with families. Prices start at $34.99 for adults and $18.99 for children. Pass Members can get a discount. Reservations must be made in advance.
Halloween Storytime with Big Bird located at Big Bird’s nest at various times throughout the day.
Sesame Street Halloween Parade with all of your favorite furry Sesame Street characters in their Halloween costumes. Consult your Times Guide for the time of the parade each day.
Pumpkin Garden and Storyteller is an interactive area that includes various times where the Pumpkin Queen reads stories in the garden.
Halloween Cookie Decorating Kits and Kids Crafts are located in-between Wild Artic and Sesame Street Land. Kids Crafts are included in the price of admission, but the cookie decorating kits cost extra.
There is a costume contest each Friday of the event. Kids wanting to enter the contest need to visit the Journey to Atlantis Plaza for more information.
A Halloween Scavenger Hunt Map can be purchased at Coconut Bay Trader’s Store. You are then sent on a quest to find colorful characters and redeem your completed hunt for a prize.
Overall, Spooktacular is a fun event for families. I love that it is included in park admission, so not only is there fun Halloween events available to enjoy, but also a plethora of shows, rides, and exhibits to explore.

Kids can get photos, hugs, and autographs from their favorite Sesame Street characters. There is an additional cost for this exclusive part of Spooktacular.

All-New Scrumptious Spooktacular Sweets
Halloween candy is not the only sweet treat at Spooktacular this year. New this year, SeaWorld Orlando is teaming up with a popular Orlando-based doughnut shop to create a one-of-a-kind doughnut for Spooktacular. SeaWorld’s talented chefs are also concocting something new for Halloween, the park’s very own version of a “dirt cup” made with chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, Oreo dust and gummy worms.
Rules for Halloween Costumes
All guests are welcome to dress up in Halloween costumes. Guests who are ages 13 and older may not wear costume masks or hoods, and all costumes are subject to the normal dress code for the park. In addition, face painting is not permitted on any guests unless it is done by park artists.

This daytime event takes place every Saturday and Sunday and extends to Friday through Sunday from October 7 through the day of Halloween. SeaWorld Orlando’s Spooktacular is included with park admission. A SeaWorld trick-or-treat bag is required to participate. Bring your SeaWorld Trick-or-Treat bag from last year, or there will be an assortment of reusable bags available for purchase at the entrance of the Trick-or-Treat Trail.
Best Way to Play
One of the best ways for guests to experience SeaWorld Orlando’s Spooktacular is with a SeaWorld Orlando 2023 Fun Card, which offers park admission through December 31, 2023, for one low price of $125.99. Guests who purchase a Fun Card right now will have the opportunity to attend Spooktacular and the award-winning Christmas Celebration this year. Guests will also have admission to SeaWorld Orlando for a full calendar year to experience thrilling rides, amazing animal encounters and energizing entertainment while also getting the opportunity to be part of all the seasonal events happening in 2023. For even more unbeatable benefits, guests can purchase a SeaWorld Orlando Annual Pass for as low as $13/month + tax with no down payment. With an Annual Pass, guests will enjoy 12 months of visits with special benefits like free parking, free guest tickets, access to special VIP events, savings on merchandise and more! For 2022 SeaWorld’s Spooktacular runs around each weekend from mid September and is suitable for the whole family and for the first time Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is also presenting their own version of Spooktacular.
The 2022 dates are:
- September 17, 18, 24, 25
- October 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30, 31
Between September 17 and October 2, it runs on Saturdays and Sundays, then from October 7 through to October 31, it is on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays plus Halloween itself.
The fun begins at 11 a.m. each day and ends 1 hour before the park closes. It offers a family friendly trick-or-treat experience all included in the standard admission. Costumes are encouraged but only children aged 12 and under may wear costume masks or hoods. Also face painting is not allowed except by the authorised artists on site.
Families with small children will be glad to know that SeaWorld is making an extra effort to “hide” the scary Howl-O-Scream attractions from day guests.
If you are staying for the new SeaWorld Howl-O-Scream , note that no costumes are allowed at the Howl-O-Scream event.
Throughout the park there is the chance to meet many unusual sea creature characters including sea witches, mermaids, polar bears, penguins, pumpkin fish and a walking and talking spider crab. Great for photo opportunities.
As well as SeaWorld’s family-friendly Spooktacular event, Busch Gardens is now also hosting their own Spooktacular event and LEGOLAND Florida’s Brick-or-Treat all of which are included with standard daytime admission.
Magic Kingdom Disney’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a separately ticketed evening event that caters for families.
Seaworld’s Halloween Spooktacular dates for 2022

Trick-or-Treat Trail
You can dress-up in your favourite costume and go trick-or-treating for candy and snacks around SeaWorld’s “spooktacular” exhibits. The Trick-or-Treat Trail is centred around the Dolphin Theater with around a dozen Trick-or-Treat stations.
The Spooktacular map leads you to a number of different sea-themed stations each featuring lots of treats and candy including Tootsie Rolls®, Airheads® and Smarties®.
The start of the trail is by the Meet a Mermaid near the Manta rollercoaster and runs to the end by Journey to Atlantis and Antarctica: Empire and the Penguin.
In previous years you could bring your own bag but for safety hygiene reasons, in 2020 you had to purchase a new SeaWorld reusable bag at the entrance to the Trick-or-Treat Trail. You could not enter the trail without an official bag.
This has been carried forward and in 2022 a range of reusable bags are available for purchase priced from $3.99 from a number of locations including the start of the trail.
Of course depending on how much candy you intend to collect, you might want to bring another larger bag with you as well to transfer your haul into.
If you suffer from food allergies, check with a cast member for information on allergen-friendly treats.

Scarecrow Halloween Dance Party
The kid-friendly Scarecrow Halloween Dance Party takes place several times a day at the Journey to Atlantis plaza. Join the DJ and SeaWorld’s own scarecrows for a great dance party.
Mermaid Grotto
At the Mermaid Grotto which is located at one end of the trick-or-treat trail near the Manta rollercoaster, you can meet a mermaid and have your photo taken with her in her seashell grotto.
Pumpkin Garden
The Pumpkin Garden is located between Dolphin Cove and the TurtleTrek Aquarium. As you navigate through the maze, look out for the pumpkin fish and you might even see the Pumpkin Queen reading stories.
SeaWorld Spooktacular Ticket Prices 2022
Because the SeaWorld Spooktacular event is included with regular admission, a normal single day or multi-park ticket, Fun Card or Annual Pass will give you admittance but remember it only runs on selected dates.
Count Von Count’s Spooktacular Breakfast
The normal character breakfast is transformed into Count Von Count’s Spooktacular Breakfast “Booffet”, where you can feast on a comprehensive buffet breakfast in the company of Sesame Street characters like Elmo, Big Bird and Count Von Count and get hugs, photos and autographs. Reservations are required.
The breakfast is served at the Seafire Grill and includes all your breakfast favourites including brown sugar glazed ham, bacon and sausage links, biscuits and sausage gravy, omelettes and scrambled eggs, French toast, potato tots, cereals, yogurt with a topping bar, fresh fruit, pastries and a choice of drinks.
The price is $34.99 (plus tax) for adults aged 10+, $18.99 (plus tax) for children aged 3 to 9 and free for infants aged 0 to 2. Pass members receive a discount.
Allergen and gluten free options are available.
Sesame Street
In Sesame Street there are photo opportunities with some of the Sesame Street characters such as Elmo, the Count and Big Bird.
Throughout the day Big Bird reads some of his favourite Halloween stories at the Big Bird’s Nest for Storytime and you can join Count von Count and his furry friends for singing and dancing.
The highlight is the Sesame Street Halloween parade with The Count, Elmo, Big Bird and other Sesame Street characters.
Scavenger Hunt
There is a scavenger hunt each day of the Spooktacular event and you can win a prize from Chick-Fil-A if you complete it. Look out for the QR code signs in park and purchase your map to enter.
Halloween Cookie Decorating & Kids Craft Area
You can decorate sea themed fun fall and Halloween crafts for free between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. For an additional fee you can purchase a cookie decorating kit and decorate your own cookie with frosting and toppings. Located between Sesame Street Land and Wild Arctic.
Spooktacular Food
As well as all the candy on offer, you can also buy a special Spooktacular doughnut created by a local Orlando doughnut shop.
SeaWorld chefs have also created a “dirt cup” dessert with chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, Oreo dust and gummy worms, designed to look like worms crawling about on the soil.
For adults, there are specially themed drinks.
Halloween Costume Contest
Every Friday, there is a Halloween costume contest at the Journey to Atlantis plaza with a special prize for the winner.

15 BEST SeaWorld Spooktacular Tips (2023 First-timer’s Guide)

You don’t have to only visit Universal Orlando Resort or Walt Disney World Resort for an amazing Halloween experience in central Florida. SeaWorld Spooktacular is another fall event that you’ll come to love while visiting Orlando that takes place September 16th through October 31st 2023.
I’ve been working seven days straight without having the chance to check out the latest fall event rumors at SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular and at the other parks.
This is mostly due to my late nights working that leave me extremely tired the next day.
As I started reviewing my past experiences of this annual event, I thought it’ll be great to give you some of the BEST ways to enjoy it.
After all, SeaWorld Spooktacular is not just for kids.
Here’s EVERYTHING you need to know for this year’s SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular event!

15 Easy Ways to Make the Most Out of SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular Visit
Now that we have the basics out of the way, let’s go through the top tips for your Orlando Halloween trip.

1. Start Early
This is a classic tip for any theme park trip.
Especially if you want to see and do everything during your visit.

Coming early to SeaWorld Halloween Spooktacular will give you a chance to pace yourself by allowing you to enjoy all the activities special to this autumn event.
SeaWorld Orlando Height Requirements (2023 Cheat Sheet)
2. Map out Your Day and Download App
This is another classic tip for any avid theme park traveler. You can read some of my top ways of doing SeaWorld here!

Mapping out your day with the app will save you the headache of missing out on unique things, especially if you’re only able to visit once.

This tip is very important, because it will help guide you on:
- where to find ride wait times
- what the current show times are
- dining venue hours and offerings
Having the park app will allow you to view the map and get familiar with the layout of SeaWorld Orlando prior to your visit.
SeaWorld Orlando Halloween Spooktacular Hours
The SeaWorld park hours are usually from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m . However, you can enjoy the Spooktacular event on select weekend days from 11 a.m. until 1 hour prior to park closing.
However, during the peak days during the Halloween season, the park may be open until 12 a.m. for the Howl-O-Scream event.
Remember when planning your trip, always check the park’s website or mobile app for the current hours and wait times.

3. Meet the Special SeaWorld Spooktacular Halloween Characters
While you’re enjoying all of the fall-inspired activities taking place at SeaWorld , don’t forget to meet all the aquatic characters (like mermaids) decked out in their Halloween best!

Penelope is the queen of the night, but she’ll have her friends out to do meet-and-greets with you.
You can meet some of them at the Mermaid Grotto and throughout various places inside the park.

4. Watch the Sesame Street Halloween Parade
I know you’re probably thinking that I’m pushing it to have you see this parade on your adult trip, but it’s actually a well-done experience.
During the Sesame Street Halloween parade, you’ll join The Count, Elmo, Big Bird and more as they party with you through the famous street.

You will also get the chance get into your own Halloween spirit as you join in with classic songs to sing along to with the Sesame Street characters.

5. Map Out Your Candy Route
Trick or treating at SeaWorld Spooktacular is the BEST part of the evening!

There are quite a few candy stops for you to visit on your Halloween excursion at SeaWorld. So, if you can map out where the trick-or-treat locations will be, then you’ll be able to quickly get to those spots on your trip.
This will save you so much time.
SeaWorld has much better candy options than Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Plus, many stops give you full-size candy bars!
You can’t get any better than that…

Each sea-themed, trick-or-treat station offers a variety of candy favorites including Haribo®, Smarties® and Albanese®, just to name a few.

6. Repeat the Candy Walk
Why only circle the trick-or-treat candy stations once???
You have to do it big at SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular and TREAT YO SELF! Go around the candy trail a few more times and get your money’s worth.
SeaWorld All-Day Dining Doesn’t Have To Be Hard (Read These PRO TIPS)
7. Bring Your Own Bag
In order for you to carry all that delicious Halloween candy and snacks you will be getting, it’s best to bring your own bag.

I recommend not only having your own trick-or-treat bag, I recommend also buying the small one that SeaWorld offers.
The reason I say to buy the one they have onsite is because, I’ve seen the Team Members give more candy to people with the SeaWorld bag, then one’s with their own.

So, you can use your small official SeaWorld bag to collect the candy.
Once that bag is filled, transfer the candy to the bag you brought from home and continue your trick or treating adventures!
You can get the reusable bags at select locations such as:
- Exit Gift Shop
- SeaWorld Store
- Lighthouse Cart
- Children’s Gift
- Shoppes of Waterfront
- Merchandise bayside huts

Per SeaWorld, all guests are welcome to dress up in costumes, although only those 12 and younger are allowed to wear masks. Guests who are ages 13 and older may not wear masks or hoods in the park, and all costumes are subject to the normal dress code for the park. While you’re there, don’t forget to have your kid participate in the Costume Contest on Fridays in front of the Journey to Atlantis plaza!

I love going to Mickey’s Halloween but since they canceled on us, I am planning on giving Sea World a shot (wish it wasn’t weekends only). Thanks for the post!
SeaWorld’s Halloween event is hard to compare with Disney’s Halloween event, but each time I go to the Spooktacular event at SeaWorld I have so much fun seeing the characters dressed in their Halloween costumes, eating great food, dancing to the music and trick-or-treating around the park!

Things to do | at least 16 dead in maine shooting as police hunt for ‘person of interest’ and residents shelter, things to do, things to do | theme park rangers radar: holidays on horizon, ‘n sync at epcot, cashless seaworld.

Hang on, the end of year flurry is about to hit with holiday festivities that don’t involve intentional frights. Our radar detects new Christmastime activities at Walt Disney World as well as old favorites across Central Florida.
We’ll also enter the way-back machine to visit ‘N Sync at Epcot and look at the new cashless policy at SeaWorld Orlando .
Radar is a weekly roundup of haunts and happenings from Orlando’s theme parks. It appears at OrlandoSentinel.com on Wednesdays .
Seasons change
Halloween is so two months ago in Orlando. Of course, the celebration continues, but pacing outside the gates of the theme parks are truckloads of holiday decor and celebrations for Christmas and more.
There will be familiar, downright traditional activities. But among the new offerings will be Disney Jollywood Nights, an after-hours, extra-ticket event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios .
Here’s what we know so far, with events in the order they debut.
• Nov. 7: “Frozen Holiday Surprise,” a stage show that effectively lights up Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom, debuts. This happens nightly during the holiday season.
• Nov. 9: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party launches, but the first two nights have sold out already. (Note: This happened a lot in 2022.) Included in the 25 event nights are seasonal fireworks, parade, stage show and a chance to join a virtual queue for Tron Lightcycle / Run. (Tickets for the event range from $159 to $199, depending on the date.)
• Nov. 10: SeaWorld Orlando’s Christmas celebration begins with live shows such as “O Wondrous Night,” “Elmo’s Christmas Wish Show” and “Winter Wonderland on Ice.” There will be a parade in Sesame Street Land and an end-of-night fireworks show. Activities are on select days through Jan. 2 and included with regular SeaWorld admission.
• Nov. 11: The new Jollywood Nights will feature live stage shows – one with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Moana, Tiana and Belle – and a swanky party atmosphere. Expect music and beverages. There will also be a singalong based on “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” so bone up on your “What’s This” lyrics now. It starts early enough for holiday-card photo ops, including one with nine cameras for a “boomerang-style” image. (Price: $159 to $179. Two of the 10 evenings have sold out.)
• Nov. 17: Universal Orlando rolls out its holiday offerings at Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios parks. IOA will feature Grinchmas activities. The holiday parade featuring Macy’s will hit the streets of the Studios, plus there will be Mannheim Steamroller concerts on Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10. Both parks will have seasonal decor in their respective Wizarding World of Harry Potter areas. The festivities are included with regular park admission.
• Nov. 24: Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays begins Nov. 24. That includes Candlelight Processional, which will feature actress Chrissy Metz as the first narrator. The daily event also includes storytellers positioned around World Showcase, gospel songs, a holiday overlay at Living With the Land and a cookie stroll. The activities are included with regular Epcot admission. ( “Luminous: The Story of Us” nighttime spectacular premieres Dec. 5.)
• Nov. 24: Legoland Florida’s holiday celebration, included with admission, includes a giant Lego tree, shows, treats, season character interactions and, eventually, Kids New Year’s Eve fireworks.
• Disney says its Merry Menagerie of life-size animal puppets is returning to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. A date has not been released.

The recent speculation of an ‘N Sync reunion, which was bolstered by a new single, a Taylor Swift-related appearance on the VMAs and a cupful of coyness, got me thinking about their longstanding presence at Epcot. The band is part of the Leave a Legacy program that put park visitors’ images onto monolithic slabs at the base of Spaceship Earth. It was part of Disney’s Millennium celebration.
Folks paid to do this, and their contributions stayed in place until 2019. Disney relocated and rearranged the images in 2021 so that they’re just outside the front gate. On a recent trip I double-checked on the guys, and sure enough on panel 7, are (top to bottom) Joey Fatone, Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass and JC Chasez, turn of the century style. They’re on the far left side as you approach the entrance, between a security building and restrooms,
There’s not a lot of traffic over there, and the images don’t have the worn-down appearance they had from fans touching their faces in the original spot. Disney abandoned the high contrast steely gray look for a multicolored representation, so ‘N Sync is now in the pink.
You can find the members – or anyone who participated – through a search on EpcotTileFinder.com . Insert name to receive the panel, row and column number. It’s a great shortcut since Disney says more than 550,000 visitors took part.

See ya, cash at SeaWorld
SeaWorld Orlando has shifted to a cashless existence. It’s not quite right to say your money’s no good there, but transactions are now exclusively done through credit cards, debit cards and smart devices with Apple Pay or Google Pay powers.
“Cashless, contactless transactions are faster, safer and more secure,” SeaWorld’s website says. It makes for a “more streamlined and worry-free experience.”
There’s a workaround for visitors only armed with the green stuff: Cask-to-card kiosks in the park transfer amounts to Visa prepaid debit cards. The park map currently shows five of them, including one outside the entrance.
There are rules. You can put up to $500 on a card, although no minimum amount is required. If you don’t spend the entire amount at SeaWorld, the card is valid anywhere Visa is accepted. No personal information is taken to get the card, and there’s no transaction fee.
Little red flag in the fine print: “If you use the card regularly, you will not incur any fees. Just keep in mind that after 92 consecutive days with no transactions, you will be charged $3.95 per month by the card issuer,” the site says.
SeaWorld’s Aquatica water park, Discovery Cove day resort, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay theme park and the neighboring Adventure Island water park also have gone cashless. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando continue to accept cash.
