2024 Honda Shadow Phantom Review | First Ride
A Spirited Phantom Ride

When something has been around for four decades, it’s usually because of a combination of inherent quality and general likability. Take a look at Rider magazine, for example. Next year, we celebrate our 50th birthday. There’s a reason for that. But quality doesn’t live in a vacuum. To survive – and even better, to thrive – there has to be change. Honda has succeeded in finding the next step in the evolution of the Honda Shadow Phantom, and the company hopes the changes, combined with a 40-year history, will help the bobber-style bike succeed in the middleweight cruiser market.
The Spirit of 750
The Honda Shadow was introduced in 1983 with two options. The larger of the two cruisers featured a liquid-cooled 745cc 45-degree V-Twin with SOHC and 3 valves per cylinder. It had a 6-speed gearbox, a slipper clutch, and shaft final drive. More than 19,000 Shadow 750s were sold that year.
Related: Retrospective – 1988 Honda VT800C Shadow
There were several other chapters in the Shadow story, but if we’re following the lineage to the Phantom, significant mileposts included the shift to a 52-degree V-Twin in 1988 with the 583cc Shadow VLX. The 52-degree V found its way to the larger displacement 750cc Shadow ACE in 1998, which dropped down to a 5-speed gearbox, chain final drive, and no slipper clutch. The Shadow Phantom was introduced in 2010 with blacked-out styling (the exhaust was still chrome), the introduction of fuel injection, and a return to shaft drive.

The 2024 Honda Shadow Phantom sees the blacked-out styling now carried through the exhaust – a good look that represents a more modern appeal. It still features a liquid-cooled 745cc 52-degree V-Twin, but machine-cut cylinder head fins add a nice visual contrast that makes the engine pop. There’s also a new two-tone paint scheme on the tank (Deep Pearl Gray or Orange Metallic), LED turnsignals, fork boots, shortened fenders, and a new single seat (a passenger seat and footpegs are available as accessories).

Colin Miller, American Honda assistant manager of public relations, said members of Generations Y and Z are more attracted to Honda’s Rebel platform, partially because of its more aggressive styling, and Honda is leveraging some of that style with the Shadow Phantom. Whereas the Shadow Aero still has the more laid-back appearance of a traditional cruiser with a swept-back handlebar and more relaxed seating, the revamped Phantom takes a more contemporary approach, with a new handlebar and clamp that puts the rider in more aggressive forward position. A graphic during the presentation showed the handlebar position close to that of the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight.

And from a customization standpoint, while the previous model’s rear fender and license plate holder was one piece that had to be cut if a customer wanted to make changes, the holder on the new model can be unbolted to aid customization.
Another significant update to the Phantom is its stopping power. Braking in the front is still provided by a 2-piston caliper gripping a 296mm disc, but the previous rear brake drum has been replaced by a 276mm disc and 2-piston caliper, and a new ABS version is available for an extra $300.

Front suspension travel has been increased by half an inch (to 5.1 inches) but remains the same 3.5 inches in the rear courtesy of dual shocks with five-position spring-preload adjustability. Otherwise, seat height is essentially the same at a very cruiser-like 25.6 inches. Even though fuel capacity has been bumped 0.2 gallon to 3.9, curb weight of the 2024 model is 6 lb lighter at 543 lb.

Unlocking the Phantom Zone
The middleweight cruiser market exploded during the Covid pandemic. The wave crested in 2021, but Miller said Honda is hoping the Shadow Phantom will bring in both new riders and existing cruiser fans looking for something new. I don’t know about the younger generation – in more ways than just their riding preferences – but I can say this Gen X cruiser guy sure enjoyed the ride.

The first thing I noticed when firing up the bike was the rumble, which was surprisingly satisfying for a Japanese bike with the stock exhaust. The Phantom continued to impress as we rolled through the streets of San Dimas, California. When we tested the 2013 Shadow Aero, it made 44.7 lb-ft of peak torque at the rear wheel, with more than 40 lb-ft available between 2,200 and 5,000 rpm. I appreciated that level of low-end grunt when pulling away from intersections in town, and it held its own as we climbed 6,000 feet on State Route 39 to Crystal Lake.

The rear suspension was a little squishy in some of the bumpier parts, but that was likely a result of the preload being set for someone a little lighter than my two-plus bills. Fortunately, the new saddle is nice and cushy and didn’t give me any grief during the four hours I was on it.

The pull on the clutch lever was a little heavy, and I would rate it “medium.” Since I own an older cruiser, it’s not anything new to me, but many bikes today are equipped with slip/assist clutches, and once you get used to this feature, you notice when it’s not there. I was okay with the lever pull – although a slip/assist clutch would’ve lightened it – but there was a moment going up the twisty, narrow one-way route to Crystal Lake where a quick downshift, combined with some debris in the road, gave a hop of the rear wheel on a curve that was a little bracing.

At just $8,399 ($8,699 for the ABS version), the 2024 Honda Shadow Phantom may not have all the bells and whistles, but it is a very attractive proposition for either a new rider or someone looking to add another steed to their stable from a segment without a lot of competition.
Only Breath and Shadow
I had only one other issue with the Phantom. The bike has a decent 27.4-degree lean angle. However, when I put the arch of my boot on the forward-mount footpegs, if I didn’t want my toe resting on the brake pedal, the heel of my boot found the road surface before the pegs did. This required a shifting of my right boot to various positions, none of which were as comfortable or confidence-inspiring as having the peg positioned directly under my arch.

This is not to say that I was high-speed slaloming up the canyon. In fact, I was the most conservative of the riders that day on the winding SR-39. As to those peg scrapes, I was once advised by my colleague and editor-in-chief of our sibling publication American Rider , Kevin Duke: “Ride your own ride, but challenge your limits when your confidence grows.”
So I did. Most riders won’t treat the Honda Shadow like a sportbike, but it certainly responded to my prodding enough to make it a spirited ride up the winding SR-39. When it comes to riding my own ride, I like to cruise, take in the scenery, breathe the air, and get my heart pumping enough to remember I’m alive.

If you are of a like mind, you’ll be very happy with the Phantom. And for those of you wondering if it’ll haul a little ass, the Phantom has something for you as well, as I can attest based on the taillights winking in the distance ahead of me from some of the other riders in my group.
The new Phantom has brought the Shadow into the light, and it looks to be a bright future indeed.

2022 Honda Shadow Phantom 750 Review: Specs, Features & Changes Explained | Bobber Styled Cruiser Buyer’s Guide

– 2022 Honda Shadow Phantom 750 Bobber Cruiser / Motorcycle Buyer’s Guide | (VT750C2B = Phantom) –

Today, we’re going to take a look at the 2022 Honda Shadow Phantom 750. One of the best selling cruiser motorcycles in Honda’s model lineup and I’m sure its bobber styling will continue to bring in even more riders for 2022. The Shadow lineup is starting to get some age behind it without any major redesigns but as you can see below when we dive into some of the specs and features, it’s still one to highly consider while looking at the long list of 2022 motorcycles to buy out there.
2022 Shadow Phantom VS 2021 Shadow Phantom Changes? Yes and no. Technically, Honda didn’t build a 2021 Shadow Phantom just like how they skipped the 2021 Shadow Aero so we’ll be comparing to the 2020 Shadow Phantom. The only changes to the 2022 Shadow Phantom 750 comes in the way of colors. In 2020, you had Matte Pearl White and Black to choose from and now on the 2022 Shadow Phantom you have a new Adventure Green that Honda hasn’t used before and you also have Matte Black Metallic returning. Unlike the 2022 Shadow Aero that saw a $100 price increase, the 2022 Phantom stays the same thankfully but you still don’t have ABS as an option like you do on the Aero.
The Shadow Phantom celebrates the joy of back-to-basics motorcycling by delivering a V-twin ride packing a uniquely clean and uncluttered appearance. By staking out the low-profile approach to cool, the Shadow Phantom reinforces the idea that bling ain’t everything in a bike. If you want people to listen to you, a whisper can be louder than a shout. That’s the idea here: If you want to stand out in a world full of chrome and bright colors, maybe more chrome isn’t the answer. Maybe less is. Take one look at the Honda Shadow Phantom and you’re going to know that’s true. The Phantom is for riders who want a great bike, who love to ride and who want to make a powerful statement. Its blacked-out 745cc V-twin engine, black rims, bobbed fenders, spoked wheels and beefy front fork all set it apart from most of the other customs on the road.

There’s No Substitute for V-Twin Power – The Shadow Phantom’s 745cc V-twin engine features Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), ensuring easy cold-weather starting and seamless, all-condition fuel delivery.
The Phantom Look – Black engine, frame, rims and handlebar—black everything—that’s the Phantom’s trademark look.
Engineered for the Long Run – The Phantom’s durable and virtually maintenance-free shaft final drive ensures smooth, dependable power delivery to the asphalt. No hassles, no grease flying everywhere. Just smooth, quiet power transfer.
In 2007 Honda launched the popular VT750C2 Shadow. Based on the VT750 Shadow, it took similar design cues from classic cruiser tradition. However, the VT750C2 Shadow Phantom took the concept a step further with more traditional street rod styling, a leaner, meaner profile and a riding position that submerged the rider deep down in the bike for a full experience of the engine’s power. A new PGM-FI fuel injection system intensified the ride while improving fuel efficiency and emissions, and a large 17″ front wheel gave it an unmistakable presence on the street.
In 2010 Honda proudly introduced the Phantom, an intense variation on the Shadow Spirit theme with authentic bobber styling and a pure, minimalistic spirit. In one basic color, its bold character made its beefy performance and easy ownership all the more pleasurable. Over the years the Phantom has went unchanged except for the addition of new color options and variations each year. For 2022 the Shadow Phantom returns with a new Adventure Green color option and the popular Matte Black Metallic returns alongside it.
2022 Honda Shadow Phantom Development

The Shadow Phantom is based around a low, triangular profile that places the rider in the middle of the ride, and is accentuated with exclusive styling details. Proven technologies ease handling and usability, and deliver a highly involving yet relaxed ride. The fuel injection system is tuned for smooth, responsive control, allowing riders to enjoy the engine’s power. The maintenance-free shaft drive and reliable liquid-cooled engine mean stress-free ownership.
Riding the Phantom is a stirring experience, and its aggressive attitude and streetwise confidence create their own authority on the street.
2022 Honda Shadow Phantom Engine / Drivetrain
The power at the heart of the VT750C2B Phantom is supplied by the same 750cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine used in the VT750C2 Shadow that pumps out 44.6 horsepower and 47.9 lb/ft of torque. Its delivery is tuned for deep, rumbling pulses of power and torque. Accessibility and dependability are also essential to the VT750C2B experience, and the fuel injection system has been developed for quick throttle response and maximum fuel economy that comes in at 56 MPG.

The liquid-cooled 52° V-twin engine powering the Shadow Phantom is a time-proven standard of Honda excellence, essentially the same configuration that provides strong, dependable power to all our 750cc V-twin cruisers. Its compact shape allows the frame’s central backbone to be lowered, facilitating the cruiser’s long-and-low profile. The engine features a long-stroke, single-pin crankshaft configuration and optimal mass to enhance the feel of its low rpm torque peak. Efficient combustion and instant power thrusts are provided by SOHC three-valve cylinder heads with dual spark plugs, while close-ratio transmission delivers strong, exhilarating acceleration from anywhere in the engine’s power range. The sensation of strong, direct power delivery to the rear wheel is down to the machine’s enclosed shaft final drive. Requiring only minimal maintenance, the shaft drive operates smoothly and quietly while enhancing the feel of the engine’s power.
The VT750C2B Phantom is equipped with a highly developed Honda PGM-FI fuel injection system, featuring an idle air control valve which precisely controls incoming air for smooth idling operation. The system ensures easy starting, instant throttle response and smooth, satisfying thrusts of acceleration. With accurate fuel flow monitoring, efficiency is also optimized, keeping both emissions and fuel consumption low.
The chrome-plated dual shotugun exhaust pipes that accentuate the length of the Phantom chassis are more than just a visual accent on its street rod styling. They also pump out an exhilarating sound that combines with the throbbing feel of the engine to create an exciting ride sensation.
Each exhaust pipe is fitted with an oxygen sensor that feeds data to the fuel injection system’s ECU and a HECS3 (Honda Evolutional Catalyzing System) low emissions system. This strictly regulates exhaust gases while still maintaining the engine’s capable performance and thrilling sound.
2022 Honda Shadow Phantom Styling
For its design inspiration the Phantom went back to its custom roots. Its clipped rear fender, triangulated profile and thumping engine acknowledge a heritage that reaches back for decades.

To true custom bike aficionados, style is important and any lapse in attention to detail is unforgivable. The Shadow Phantom is a perfectly turned-out celebration of an iconic style and culture. From its bobbed tail to its assertive front wheel, every contour is carefully styled. Its bold, kicked-out forks and raised handlebars provide the point of focus from which it leans back into a long, tapered tank.
The instrument panel is placed on top of the tank. It features a large, easily readable speedometer dial, a compact assembly of practical gauges and indicator lights and an eye-catching silver-painted cover. The seat is easily the lowest in the 750cc cruiser class and creates a deep riding position that allows an easy reach to the grips and a laid-back cruiser feel.
2022 Honda Shadow Phantom Chassis / Suspension
The engine’s power is contained in a slim, lightweight and rigid double-cradle steel frame that is both responsive and easy to handle. A large-diameter single tube backbone and pressed steel pivot plates combine in a low overall chassis height, allowing for low tank and seat positioning. The seat rails and chopped rear fender are supported by a cast sub-frame. The frame design is an important contributor to the sensational ride quality, transmitting enough primary vibration to maximize enjoyment of the engine’s performance without allowing it to become uncomfortable.

The extended 41mm front fork and 17″ front wheel create a remarkably responsive and comfortable package. On the left side, the shaft drive is integrated with the swingarm adding to the clean and simple look. The exposed rear shock absorbers are tilted forward, providing progressive damping and a comfortable ride with precise control. A fat 160mm rear tire emphasizes the sporty custom styling as well as adding to comfort. The powerful brakes perform with smooth efficiency. A large-diameter 296mm front disc with a responsive dual-piston caliper is paired with a conventional 180mm leading/trailing drum brake at the rear.

It’s the best of both worlds: The three-valve combustion chambers used on many of our V-twin cruisers feature two intake valves and one exhaust, helping them breathe efficiently to boost both horsepower and torque.

Honda Reveals New “Bagger” Rebel and Returning Motorcycle Models for 2023
- New Rebel 1100T DCT offers “bagger” cruiser styling and convenience
- Announcement includes on-road models from five categories
- For the 2023 model year, American Honda announces the return of 11 on-road motorcycle models. From cruisers to miniMOTOs, scooters and sport bikes, the announcement includes a diverse range of motorcycles that showcase the breadth of Honda’s lineup.
The highlight of the announcement is the new “T” trim level of the Rebel 1100 platform. The Rebel 1100T DCT builds on the success of Honda’s “new-school” cruiser platform with “bagger” styling (including wind protection and substantial cargo space), as well as Honda’s advanced dual clutch transmission (DCT). In addition to this new version, the standard Rebel 1100 is back in both manual-transmission and DCT iterations. Other confirmed returning 2023 cruisers include the Rebel 500 and 300—offered in several trim levels and new colors for 2023—as well as the classic Shadow Aero and bobber-inspired Shadow Phantom.
Returning sport bike models include the value-driven CBR1000RR, the agile CBR600RR and the entry-level sport-naked CB300R. The touring-focused NC750X continues to deliver incredible versatility for 2023, and it’s available with DCT or a manual transmission. A pair of miniMOTO models—the best-selling Super Cub and the nostalgic Monkey—both feature available ABS and receive new colors for the new model year. The adventure-inspired ADV150 scooter is back for 2023 as well.
“This announcement covers nearly every category of on-road motorcycle, which is a testament to how deep our product offering is,” said Brandon Wilson, Manager of Sports and Experiential at American Honda. “While each model has a distinct goal in mind, they all benefit from Honda’s renowned premium build quality and reliability. Whether it’s for the first-time rider or the weekend warrior, we’re committed to delivering the best possible ownership and riding experiences to all of our passionate two-wheel customers.”

- Specifications
- LOW SEAT HEIGHT: The Phantom’s low seat height makes flat-footing it at stoplights or in parking lots a breeze. And the Phantom’s narrow seat/tank junction makes it feel even lower.
- GUNFIGHTER SADDLE: Sleek, one-piece gunfighter-type seat is comfortable and looks great too.
- SHAFT FINAL DRIVE: Clean, efficient, proven, and low-maintenance. Shaft final drive is the perfect choice for a machine like this, and for riders who pile on the miles. You never have to worry about lubrication or adjustment out on the road. And an added plus: it helps keep your bike cleaner, too.
- FIVE-SPEED TRANSMISSION: The Shadow Phantom’s wide-ratio five-speed transmission lets you cruise the boulevard at a low, unhurried pace, yet allows you hop on the highway without revving the engine through the roof.
Performance
- V-TWIN ENGINE: Nothing pumps out the torque like a bold V-twin. The Phantom’s power makes it perfect for around-town cruising, commutes and casual weekend-long rides.
- 2-INTO-2 EXHAUST SYSTEM: Sleek pipes feature bullet-style mufflers for that classic cruiser style of yesteryear. Large-diameter head pipes and 2-into-2 system design combine to put out true, V-twin cruiser sound.
- PROGRAMMED FUEL INJECTION (PGM-FI): Forget about fiddling with a choke—the Shadow's fuel injection system means no-hassle startups on cold mornings or at high altitudes, and optimal performance in any condition.
- THREE-VALVE DUAL-PLUG COMBUSTION CHAMBER: It’s the best of both worlds: The three-valve combustion chambers used on many of our V-twin cruisers feature two intake valves and one exhaust, helping them breathe efficiently to boost both horsepower and torque.
- BOBBER-INSPIRED STYLING: The short fenders, clean seat, and hidden wiring and de-chromed treatment all give the Phantom its unique look: like an old-school cruiser that’s ready for the way we roll today.
- TANK-MOUNTED INSTRUMENTS: A key element of the Shadow Phantom’s look are the tank-mounted instruments. Set in a blacked-out pod to match the rest of the bike’s look, they combine a traditional feel with a thoroughly modern treatment.
- BLACKED-OUT STYLING: The closer you look at a Shadow Phantom, the better it looks. That’s because the styling is so unified. Check out the way the blacked-out engine, black rims, black frame, black fork, black headlight and black seat all hang together. It really makes the tank stand out on the Adventure Green model, or you can go for the all-black look with our Matte Black Metallic tank.
- SHORTY FRONT FENDER: A minimalist front fender gives the Shadow Phantom a lighter, cleaner, more progressive look.
- SPOKED WHEELS: The Shadow Phantom’s spoked black wheels and hubs complete the overall custom look.

2024 Honda Shadow Phantom Review – First Ride

Ghost in the machine

I just rode two motorcycles with fork gaiters within a one-week period. Nooo, they weren’t vintage 2-stroke MXers. Both were 2024 models, street bikes, cruisers at that. The first was Kawasaki’s new Eliminator , and the second was Honda’s reworked (I refuse to use “updated” and “fork gaiters” in the same paragraph) Shadow Phantom.
2024 Honda Shadow Phantom
For 2024 the aging Shadow Phantom receives a fresh makeover, but, besides a new rear disc brake, falls short of any performance upgrades. Considering the 2024 Phantom retails for only $400 more than it did 13 years ago, we’re kind of okay with that.
Editor's score: 80.25%
- Exhaust Sound
- Rear disc brake
- Priced right
- Cornering clearance
- Soft front suspension
- $100 for passenger accommodations
Besides their shared affinity for fork boot covers, as the manufacturers refer to them, the two cruisers also bear namesakes born in the ’80s, 1985 for the Eliminator and 1983 for the Shadow. Whereas the Eliminator is an all-new model for 2024 the new Shadow is built upon the foundation of its predecessor.

According to Motorcycle.com’s search engine, the last time we reviewed a Honda Shadow Phantom was in 2010 by my former co-worker, Jeff Cobb. Everything he said about the Phantom’s performance then is pretty much what I’m about to say regarding the Phantom’s performance now. Why? Because thirteen years, four US presidents, the first iPad, the killing of Osama Bin Laden, and the ice bucket challenge later, the two models have nearly identical spec sheets. In fact, if it weren’t for the 2024 model sporting a new rear disc brake, a half-inch more fork travel, and a few other trivial differences, they would be twinsies.

Here’s the real kicker, though. Considering inflation, supply chain interruptions, labor costs, and increasing fuel and shipping prices the MSRP of the 2024 Shadow Phantom versus its 2010 counterpart has risen an astronomical… five percent, from $7,999 to $8,399. What!?! How can that be? I’ll bet 2010 Shadow Phantom owners are kicking themselves right now for not waiting another thirteen years for a better deal. If it helps, the ABS-equipped 2024 model retails for $8,699 (for California it’s ABS or nothing).

Besides the rear disc brake, fork gaiters, and 0.5 more inches of front travel, your four hundred dollars buys a two-tone fuel tank, new handlebar and handlebar clamps, headlight cover, air-cleaner cover, instrumentation, LED turn signals, machine-cut cylinder-head fins, a revised rear fender with an updated single seat. If you want to take a passenger, the seat and footpegs are an extra $99.95.
When I asked Honda’s assistant chief engineer, Hiromitsu Shina, about the hoopla surrounding the redesign of the Phantom’s rear fender he explained how it was purposefully made to meet DOT obligations while also allowing for easy customization. Unlike the old Phantom’s one-piece rear fender, the new structure is a two-piece design with the license plate bracket, taillight, and blinkers all attached to a removable plastic insert. By unscrewing a few fender stay bolts the entire insert can be removed to achieve a more bobbed rear end. Of course, figuring out a clean way to reattach the blinkers, taillight, and license plate is where the customization really begins.

The rider’s seat may now be a solo saddle but its 25.6-inch height above the pavement remains the same, as does the unchanged location of the footpegs. Retaining the seat’s low height is a blessing, but the soon-to-scrape footpegs are not. What changes the Phantom’s rider triangle, compared to its predecessor, is the new handlebar and handlebar clamps. Reaching the handlebars requires a rider to reach a little further up, a little further forward, and a little wider than on the old Phantom. I didn’t find the seating position uncomfortable, but I’m also not in need of such a low seat height. A rider shorter in stature who is attracted to the Phantom’s low seat may find the reach to the bars preferable on the outgoing Phantom.

Our ride day was a return to MO’s old stomping grounds of Highway 39, Crystal Lake Cafe, and Frito Pie. We rode at ridiculously aggressive speeds to the point where the Phantom’s front end was bouncing, its new headlight jiggling and footpegs sparking. Definitely not the way cruisers are generally ridden, but fun, nonetheless, and it proves that when push comes to shove the Phantom will comply to the best of its abilities.

Braking power from its single, front 296mm disc and twin-piston caliper is a notch above adequate, while overall braking performance is definitely improved by virtue of the new rear 276mm disc brake. It’s in the suspension department where the Phantom truly suffers. Nearly all of the 41mm, non-adjustable fork’s 5.1 inches of travel is compressed when even applying moderate braking forces, God forbid hitting a bump with the front wheel while braking. The rear features dual shocks with five-position spring-preload adjustability with 3.5 inches of travel. To keep that incredibly low MSRP I’m okay with shocks as they are, however, it seems a bit more attention should have been paid to bettering the front suspension.

At the heart of the Phantom thumps the same fuel-injected, 745cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 52-degree, V-Twin engine, and wide ratio, five-speed transmission with shaft drive that Cobb rode back in 2010. “The engine provides enough grunt for the 549-pound machine to leave a stop light in enough of a hurry to easily outpace most automotive traffic, and its wide-ratio five-speed transmission is long-legged enough to travel the interstate if you are so inclined,” said Cobb. Ditto, says I. Although I would add that the sound emanating from the stock exhaust is exceptionally pleasing. Considering no mention was made of changes to the Phantom’s exhaust system I’m assuming the 2023 model sounded equally guttural.

According to Honda, the tank-mounted display instruments were changed, but I’m having trouble deciphering the differences between last year’s and this year’s clocks. However, the machine-cut cylinder-head fins are an obvious upgrade that adds an upscale appearance to the Phantom’s profile.
Regardless of my critiques and criticisms, one inarguable facet of the Shadow Phantom is its staying power. In Cobb’s 2010 review, he mentions the possibility of comparing the Phantom against its, at the time, contemporaries including the Star V Star 950 , the Suzuki Boulevard M50 , the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 , and the H-D Sportster 883 , two of which no longer exist today. When it comes to the Shadow Phantom, Honda’s mantra seems to be, if it ain’t broke, only fix what’s necessary to keep it relevant, which seems to be working.

Not into cruisers, but I can't say I hate it. It's a Honda. The thing will probably hold up for 30 years or more with a minimal amount of maintenance and care. Not bad for under 9 grand.

Looks more like a Harley than late Harley’s do. Looks a lot better the Honda Rebels.
i will stick with my shovelheads thank u very much !

2024 Honda Shadow Phantom Review With Riding Videos for Buyers
Is Honda’s 2024 Shadow Phantom cruiser a new Harley-Davidson Sportster ? That is the question posed by Vice President and Editorial Director Mark Hoyer during our official preproduction video meeting. Honda has a history of building upon the Sportster legacy as outlined during the Is Honda’s 2021 Rebel 1100 DCT Cruiser a Modern Sportster? and 2021 Honda Rebel 1100 MC Commute Review articles and videos. And now that The Motor Company has exited this segment (its entry-level bike is the 2023 Nightster ), if you’re seeking a full-sized V-twin cruiser that’s less than 10 grand, your options are limited for a new motorcycle .
The Shadow Phantom is positioned as a middleweight bobber-style cruiser from Honda Motor Japan. It’s $8,399 and is powered by a 745cc liquid-cooled 52-degree V-twin that sounds awesome. It’s hard to believe but, American Honda has been importing these Shadow cruisers into America since 1983. This marks the 41st year of Shadow! The Shadow Phantom fits into the V-twin cruiser world in a segment ignored by its rivals: affordability, as it’s the least expensive full-size cruiser in the entry-level segment (Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle’s entry-level cruisers are both more than 10 grand).
For its price, retailing at $8,399, plus another $300 if you desire ABS, you get a lot of bike for your money. This 745cc engine features three-valve cylinder heads, two intake valves, one exhaust, powered by overhead cam. It’s good for right around 40 hp at the 15-inch rear wheel. It also makes just around 40 lb.-ft. torque. You’d be surprised how much get-up-and-go it has at lower speeds. You’re certainly not going to win any drag races in terms of top speed, but around town this thing gets up to 50–60 mph quickly.
A five-speed transmission puts power back to the tire. It has a nice clean shaft final drive. If you are not familiar with shaft final drive , it’s nice because it makes for a clean appearance. There’s no adjustment necessary and no messy chain lube to dirty the rear of the bike. It also boosts maintenance intervals; you barely ever have to change the oil in the rear differential in these things, and that’s really American Honda’s secret sauce with its V-twin motorcycle. These motorcycles are built really well.
You’re going to be hard-pressed to find another motorcycle in the V-twin category that is priced less than $10,000 with this type of build quality—this is a very well-built motorcycle. It’s worth mentioning that Honda imports many of its more affordable motorcycles into America that are built from its Honda Thailand factory.
This product, on the other hand, is manufactured in Kumamoto, Japan, where Honda builds its Gold Wings and other top-of-the-line bikes that cost well over $25,000, so you know when you purchase this Shadow Phantom you are getting a quality motorcycle.
In terms of handling, the Shadow Phantom weighs right around 540 pounds and it’s a generally easy bike to ride. Of course, 540 pounds is a lot of weight for a new rider, but because this motorcycle has such a low seat height—25.6 inches—if you’re new to riding, you’ll get along with this bike pretty well. The clutch has a good feel, the brakes are responsive without being overly so. The throttle response also is nice and easy plus you can feel the power pulses of the engine. The exhaust and engine note are flat-out awesome. You literally feel like you’re riding a Harley-Davidson because the engine and exhaust harmonics are spot on. The bike sounds that good. Kudos to Honda for paying attention to the details like engine exhaust sound which is so important in a V-twin bike.
Styling-wise this Honda has pleasing lines. We like the contrast cut machining on the cylinder heads and the general proportions. It would be nice if Honda fitted an LED headlight. Oddly enough, the turn signals are LED rather than a halogen bulb setup. In typical cruiser form, Big Red applied too many “Honda” logos, which looks odd. Realistically in this segment, V-twin customers (mostly) aren’t going to want to say they’re riding a Honda. So if Honda could remove these logos and offer a more agnostic product, that would do really well for it in the sales department. You’ve got to remember younger people these days are more brand agnostic than ever. That’s one area where Honda could really improve; just don’t logo the bikes, similar to what its Rebel lineup is doing. The rear license plate hugger is a little bit big, but by removing three 12 or 14mm Allen bolts on either side of the bike we can actually replace that whole piece with something tidier from the aftermarket.
At the end of the day, this bike is a really great value in the middleweight V-twin bobber segment. It looks cool, it rides awesomely, the engine exhaust note is splendid, and if you’re looking for an affordable easy-riding V-twin cruiser to cruise around town on plus have some fun with your friends on the weekend for shorter rides, this bike will be a good fit for you.

2023 Honda Shadow Phantom [Specs, Features, Photos]

The 2023 Honda Shadow Phantom: Classic & Understated
Model overview.
- Specifications
When you have the perfect recipe you don’t mess with it. That is exactly the approach Honda takes with the Shadow Phantom. The Japanese manufacturer is wise, and so the Shadow Phantom remains unchanged in the 2023 Honda lineup . It also remains unavailable in the Honda Canada lineup.
The Honda Shadow Phantom features a liquid-cooled 745cc V-twin engine with a 5-speed transmission that delivers smooth and reliable power to the rear wheel. The engine is designed to provide a balance between power and fuel efficiency, and it produces a throaty exhaust note that complements the Japanese bike’s sleek and aggressive styling . The suspension system consists of a traditional telescopic fork in the front and dual shocks in the rear, which work together to provide a comfortable and stable ride. The rear suspension is adjustable for preload to accommodate different rider weights and preferences, while the front suspension provides responsive handling and precise control.
The 2023 Honda Shadow Phantom starts at $7,999 USD / $ N/A CAD.
On this page: we’ve curated specs, features, news, photos/videos, etc. so you can read up on the new 2023 Honda Shadow Phantom in one place.

2020 Honda Shadow Phantom
User-friendly manners with blacked-out, minimalist style.

It displaces “only” 745cc, but even with that low seat, Honda’s Shadow Phantom just looks bigger than it is. Blacked-out components, fat tires on wire-spoked wheels and a generally lean aesthetic are Honda’s subtle nods to “ bobber-inspired style ” but the liquid-cooled, fuel-injected V-twin is also smooth-running and reliable which explains why the low-profile Shadow Phantom has remained a popular option in Honda’s lineup over the years. It hasn’t changed much in that time either, with the 745cc engine delivering good power over a broad rpm range, and a wide-ratio five-speed transmission making for easy gear changes. The minimalist styling extends to plenty of blacked-out and matte finishes and a low gunfighter-style seat with a shrouded 41mm fork to soak up the bumps up front, and dual-shock rear suspension with five-position spring preload adjustability to manage the rear. You get single brake discs, front and rear.
2020 Honda Shadow Phantom Reviews, Comparisons, And Competition
Our past experiences with the Phantom have highlighted its easy-handling and comfortable manners, especially for shorter pilots. The Phantom often gets lumped into the same class as Harley’s Sportster , but besides the similar displacement and curb weight, it’s not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison. The Phantom is longer and lower and has a shaft final drive along with different ergonomics; the slightly bigger but also liquid-cooled and shaft-driven Suzuki C50 probably has more in common with the Honda than the Harley .

Honda Shadow Phantom Updates For 2020
If you’re looking for upgrades or any changes to the Shadow Phantom in 2020, you won’t find any this time around. Honda is even offering it for the same price as 2019—a suggested $7,899—with the same color options as well, Black, or Matte Pearl White.

Origins [ ]

Green Shadow is based on the Peashooter , a famous recurring plant in the Plants vs. Zombies franchise, who in turn is based on the common Pea plant ( Pisum sativum ).
Her name and precision abilities appear to be inspired by the Detective Comics hero Green Arrow , while her purple hood bears a resemblance to fellow heroine Raven , specifically her appearance in the Cartoon Network series Teen Titans . Her preferred battle area being an urban city, her act of scaling a building with a rope in an animated trailer , and responding to a search light projecting an insignia in the Battle at the BBQ opening comic are all elements reminiscent of Batman .
Her description references how many superheroes hide their true identity. It also refers to her name both during development and in the code. Her alias itself a portmanteau of "Penelope," a feminine name of Greek origins, and "pea," the plant she is based on.

Hero description [ ]
Little known fact: When she takes off the cape and mask, she goes by the name Penelopea.
Strategies [ ]
Pvzheroes.com strategy [ ].
Green Shadow can put together awesome Peashooter combinations, increasing the strength of Threepeater, then using that extra Strength for a devastating triple attack.
As the main starting plant hero, Green Shadow can be described as a jack-of-all-trades. Her Mega-Grow and Smarty classes make her a very versatile hero when it comes to tricks and useful cards. She has access to almost all pea plants (only missing Sting Bean, Pea-Nut, Three-Nut, and Wing-Nut), especially Threepeater , which synergize with Torchwood and The Podfather ; this allows her to make use of a wide variety of strategies including peashooting plants.
As implied by her description, she can be a good middle lane controller if played well; using powerful plants with a self-boosting ability like Muscle Sprout and Pea Pod with Torchwood on the middle lane while Precision Blast is still kept mid to late-game can be a devastating strategy. Precision Blast also leads to many tactics during a match, as your opponent may never know when Green Shadow has this card, and might start playing zombies on the middle lane to protect against it.
Green Shadow is also a good anti-trick hero, especially against decks that rely on using tricks. She has access to both Black-Eyed Pea and Sportacus to discourage zombie tricks, and Brainana , Dark Matter Dragonfruit , as well as Umbrella Leaf to basically prevent them from being played altogether. These cards will devastate opponents that rely on tricks, as they would be forced to either ignore their trick strategy (making their decks useless), find a way to overcome it (which would likely be disadvantageous and brain and card-intensive), or continue with their strategy (giving you a huge edge). Even against opponents that don't use such decks, the impact will be too big to simply ignore.
A bean -themed deck mainly consisting of Admiral Navy Bean and Black-Eyed Pea + Torchwood combo works out pretty well if guarded correctly. Admiral Navy Bean does 2 extra damage to the zombie hero every time a bean card is played, and Black-Eyed Pea makes the opposing hero think twice before using tricks and can benefit from the Torchwood boost. Other beans such as Bean Counter and Jumping Bean are good supporting cards. Bean Counter gives 2 extra Weenie Beanies , which also benefit Admiral Navy Bean, and gains buffs when a bean is played. Jumping Bean bounces a zombie that can potentially threaten your play.
Green Shadow also has excellent tempo options for a slow but powerful deck. The endless self-boosting cards in the Mega-Grow class like Bananasaurus Rex and Clique Peas go incredibly well with the Smarty class' heavy hitters like Rotobaga and Carrotillery for a mid-game victory, before your opponent can finish you off.
While these combos prove to be dangerous if executed properly, keep in mind that these combos require the player to use a lot of their cards in their hand, which may lead to the player having a lack of cards, preventing the player from being able to defend themselves. However, Green Shadow should not have much issues with card draw as she not only has access to the typical Mega-Grow card draw options like Flourish and Party Thyme , but also card draw options from the Smarty class such as Planet of the Grapes .
Green shadow's biggest weakness is that she has no hard removal whatsoever. Since her only damaging trick is Precision Blast , which is very niche and situational, her only way to deal with powerful zombies is to boost her own plants and fight fire with fire, or make clever use of bonus attacks. But to compensate for that, she can Bounce them to stall or use use the Freeze + Winter Squash combo. Alongside, Green Shadow focuses on tactics too much, and not so much on rush defense. Many of her plants have below average stats and are expensive to play, so rush decks from Impfinity , Electric Boogaloo , or Professor Brainstorm will be extremely threatening for Green Shadow. While Snake Grass can help due to its multiplying capabilities, it is expensive, frail, and lacks tribe synergy. Green Shadow's only hope is to get lucky with low-cost cards, as most beans will not be able to destroy most 1-cost or 2-cost zombies.
Against [ ]
Though Green Shadow doesn't have a clear description for her battle style, using the suggested strategy for the battle suggestions can easily be used to counteract it. Green Shadow has access to lots of strong cards like The Great Zucchini and Doubled Mint . Along with her access to Bounce and Freeze cards, they make her a hard opponent to hit. Bringing along Gadget Scientist or Lurch for Lunch can help with Freeze cards. Using Gravestone zombies or Mixed-Up Gravedigger can easily protect your zombies against The Great Zucchini or Bounce cards.
As for Precision Blast, either putting a weak zombie for fodder or blocking it with a gravestone should do. Instant-kill tricks such as Rocket Science and Cut Down to Size also tend to be useful against her, since she will most likely focus on boosting her plants. Also, always protect the middle lane before Green Shadow activated her signature superpower.
Easy Peasy [ ]

Mean Beans [ ]
This deck now uses bean plants, which can cause Admiral Navy Beans to activate their abilities. Black-Eyed Peas are also a thing, so they should be destroyed quickly. Since Flourish is not in the deck, wasting your opponent's cards might be the thing. To stop Espresso Fiesta, use Bonus Track Buckethead . The best hero is Z-Mech , which can use The Chickening or Weed Spray to remove bean plants then do sheer damage to the boosted plants.
Winter Melon is Coming [ ]
The deck is more focused on freezing zombies. Using gravestones and tricks to get rid of the plants are useful, since they can remove most of Green Shadow's defense or render freezing them useless, though Cool Bean will put a dent in your deck if you use gravestone decks. The best hero to use is either Professor Brainstorm or Rustbolt , both of whom can destroy buffed plants and Winter Melon with Rocket Science and destroy the rest with The Chickening or Weed Spray, respectively. Flourish is also not in the deck, so letting your opponent run out of cards is useful.
Wish Upon a Starfruit [ ]
This deck is about boosting Shooting Starfruit to lethal stats via Lily of the Valley , Onion Rings , or Grow-Shroom followed by using Plant Food on it to instantly win Green Shadow the game, all the while controlling your zombies with usage of early game cards such as Bonk Choy and Mars Flytrap . Use Bonus Track Buckethead to put a dent to such attempts and Rocket Science to take down buffed plants. The best hero to counter this deck would be Rustbolt as he can use both cards. He can also use Rolling Stone and Weed Spray to take out the low-strength plants like Captain Cucumber before they become too much of an issue.
Sow the Seeds [ ]
This deck focuses on shuffling and drawing cards. This deck may be troublesome for you in the early-game, and even later on if you don't prepare well. Magic Beanstalk has very powerful stats for its cost and comes with the ability of drawing a card, and Green Shadow won't have trouble using them since Lima-Pleurodon will be able to activate its Dino-Roar ability multiple times thanks to the abundance of card drawers and Conjurers in her deck. Clique Peas themselves are also a big problem because they can slowly boost and multiply themselves. Later on, Bananasaurus Rex, Apotatosaurus , and Bamboozle, the main powerhouses of this deck, will kick in.
Try to destroy any setup plants and environments as early as you can with cards like your own environments, Rolling Stone, Slammin' Smackdown , Pied Piper , Nibble , and Locust Swarm . The best zombie hero to use against this deck is The Smash , since he has all the aforementioned cards. Due to the deck being ineffective at stopping rush decks, rush decks can also easily overwhelm Green Shadow unless she gets a loop of Magic Beanstalks drawing other Magic Beanstalks. And finally, due to this deck's nature (focusing on card draw), Quickdraw Con Man will be able to do lots of unblockable damage to Green Shadow, forcing her to focus on the imminent threat instead of her strategy.

New for 2024, the Shadow Phantom now gets a rear disc brake.
