26 Easy Witch Makeup Ideas and Photos for Halloween
These spellbinding looks are simple to execute.
But, because of that, it tends to get a bad rap as an overdone and uninspired last-minute costume . That doesn't have to be the case, though. And, hey, with the right outfit and a full face of awesome witch makeup—think black lipstick and some adhesive gemstones—you may even take home a prize in the costume contest. (Prefer to keep it simple? Focus on playing up your eyes using rich pigments, dramatic lashes , glittery shadow , and even spooky contacts.)
You don't have to be a makeup artist, either. There are tons of easy (and pretty!) witch makeup ideas out there to suit both beginners and experts alike. They range in style, too, so you can pick the look that best suits your witchy alter ego. Go as a modern and cute good witch, an old evil witch cut from the pages of your favorite storybook , or settle for something in between—the choice is entirely yours.
Whether you're dressing yourself or your toddler, these Pinterest-worthy makeup photos and tutorials are sure to take your Halloween witch costume to the next level.
Midnight Maven

This look from makeup artist Lauren D'Amelio is all about the drama. Start with the eyes: Choose two colors from your favorite eyeshadow palette—one for your eye lid and one for your lower lash line—then, with a dark liner, create winged lines on the top and line your lower waterline. Top with glitter, letting some fall onto your cheeks. To make the crescent moon, press a water bottle cap into your forehead gently to create a faint circle impression. Using this as your guide, draw the shape of a moon with dark liner. Finish the look with bold false lashes and a matching lipstick.
Celestial Witch

You don't need a full face of green makeup to pull off a witch costume. For a more sophisticated look, approach your makeup the same way you normally would, but use brighter colors, like deep purple eyeshadow and lipstick. Then, add a few enchanting embellishments, like circular and start-shaped self-adhesive face and body gems.
SHOP FACE GEMS
Not sure you want to cross to the dark side this Halloween? Opt for a bronzed smokey eye paired with an excess of warm blush that's topped with some face glitter. Finish off the soft look fit for a good witch with a pretty pink lipstick.
SHOP FACE GLITTER
Scary Day/Night Witch
For a truly unique take on witch makeup, split your canvas in two—one side is nice and bright for daytime; the other dark and scary for the depths of the night. For the bright side, use the warmer colors in your palettes; for the dark, experiment with black, red, and white face paint. Bonus points for colored contacts that really bring the disguise to new heights.
Easy Hooded Witch
Though the payoff is big, this look is simple enough for beginners to pull off, since you don't need a super steady hand. Go a little bolder on your standard makeup, incorporating bright pinks and even some red, then use black eyeliner to draw the lines and the crescent moon. Finally, add a swipe of black lipstick.
SHOP BLACK LIPSTICK
Purple Witch
Though this is a look you really have to commit to—it requires a lot of purple face paint—it's one you can recreate with just a bit of drugstore makeup. First, use a makeup sponge to apply the purple base coat, then swipe on the yellow eyelids, add winged liner, and brighten cheeks with a nice peachy blush. Finish the look with Halloween-inspired body stickers.
SHOP FACE PAINT
Simple Witch
You don't have to follow a complex witch makeup tutorial for great results. For something a little simpler, lean on the outfit to take you most of the way, then do a dark smokey eye and a heavily lined purple lip.
SHOP PURPLE LIP LINER
Fortune-Telling Witch
This witchy style really brings the drama, thanks to heavily-shadowed eyes in striking colors like purple and gold and a bold, wet black lip. Purple face gems and a gold headpiece complete the edgier look.
Orange and Black Spider Witch
Make your eyes stand out against an all black witch costume with a smoky orange eye adorned with a simple black spiderweb. All you need to create the spiderweb is liquid liner (use a pen for ease) and a steady hand.
SHOP ORANGE EYESHADOW
Green Witch
If you're dressing as a classic green witch, all you need is some body paint (use a makeup sponge to get that airbrushed look!) and quality black makeup. Just be sure to budget plenty of time for both application and removal—you'll need a lot of green face paint to get the coverage you see here.
SHOP BODY PAINT
Batty Witch
Give winged liner the witchy treatment by shaping it like the silhouette of a bat. It's not as difficult as it looks—it's essentially just an exaggerated cat eye. Bonus points for adding mini bats on the lips. (You can use liner or body stickers for this part.)
SHOP LIQUID LINER
Spider Witch
Add Halloween drama to an already edgy purple smokey eye by penning a wicked little spider crawling down its web. Liquid liner will do the just the trick to help you get the cleanest lines.
Masked Witch
A drawn-on mask, complete with sparkly purple face gems, adds unexpected elegance to any witch costume. Of course, if you're in a rush or are worried about your ability to pull off such an intricate design, you could simplify the look by pairing your standard makeup with a pretty bold red lip, then wearing a lacy embellished mask.
Sparkly Spider Witch
For an adult look that's creepy and glamorous all at the same time, pair glittery silver eyeshadow with a realistic hand-drawn spider. The spider looks more multi-dimensional and realistic if you use body paint, since you can add shadowing, but this approach takes a little more expertise. For a similar, but more straightforward approach, try a liquid liner pen.
SHOP SILVER EYESHADOW
Black and Orange Witch
First, powder the entire face to give the skin a creepier, washed-out vibe. Then, use the quintessential Halloween color palette of black and orange to recreate this ultra cool look. The pale skin paired with the deep, smokey eye, defined brows, and bold lip is perfect for a modern witch that's got just a hint of evil inside.
Pastel Good Witch
With such a vibrant color palette, you don't need much in the way of makeup. Dark, defined brows, vivid purple shadow, long, feathery purple false lashes, and gorgeous ombre strands come together to create a truly ethereal vibe that's great for adults and kids alike.
SHOP PURPLE LASHES
Blood Red Witch
Beginners can do something special without the struggle by swapping black liner for a blood red shade in a winged design. To complete the look, pair it with a matching red lip, and call it a day.
SHOP EYELINER
Headless Witch
If you're going for something scary, some strategic makeup on the neck will make you look like a decapitated witch. The easiest way to go about it? Body paint and a brush. It's not as hard as it looks—just blend various shades of red and black until your neck looks sufficiently bloody.
Sugar Skull Witch
Pair one of the holiday's most popular motifs—the sugar skull—with your witch costume for a slightly different take. For simplicity's sake, pick three colors—like white, black, and teal or pink—paint the face white, color in deep black eye sockets, then add a few colorful details. Sure, it'll take some precision, but the result is nothing short of fabulous.
Mystical Witch
You don't have to be able to draw intricate designs to create winning witch makeup. Beginners can put their own spin on it by going heavier than usual with colors like black and purple. For something extra, a simple cross between the brows works well. Temporary hair color or a wig do a lot to elevate the look, too.
SHOP PURPLE EYESHADOW

When it comes to cult classic Halloween costumes, a witch is about as timeless as it gets. It's easy and customizable, and depending on how far you want to take your look, you can make it as tame or terrorizing as you please. Best of all, with the help of YouTube makeup tutorials, you don't even have to pull an entire costume together—just a bunch of makeup products.
Of course, watching tutorial after tutorial and scrolling through look after look can be time-consuming. So, in the spirit of all things double, double, toil, and trouble, we played detective and did the investigative work for you. Keep reading for 22 witch-inspired makeup looks that are sure to spellbind everyone you encounter.
Wicked Witch of the West
For a true Wicked Witch of the West vibe, we suggest channeling this epic makeup moment from Makeupbyjalesse this coming Halloween. Emerald lids accented by a bold lip take it up a notch.
American Horror Story Witch
Keeping with the screen theme, we're into this rather horrifying yet totally enchanting witch makeup tutorial from Ronkeraji . After all, it doesn't get much more sinister than a matte black pout.
Gothic Glamour Witch
Inspired by couture, YouTube makeup enchantress Erin Nicole stuns with the crystal-studded cobweb number. Surprisingly, this look is much more doable than you'd think. (Though we do recommend at least one practice round before any Halloween shenanigans!)
Green-with-Envy Witch
If you want to channel your inner Elphaba, this look courtesy from Madeyewlook, Twice might be more your cup of brew this Halloween. The accents include small doses of lime and a little bit of strategic shimmer.
Skeleton Witch
If you're the type of witch who loves her contour, look no further. Vlogger MsAaliyahJay 's transformation process entrances us, and we enjoy the versatility of the result. Witch? Skeleton? A Twilight -inspired hybrid of all the above? We'll let you pick your poison.
Possessed Witch
This impeccably scary witch tutorial from Gina Rizzocascio isn't for the faint of heart. But if you have the intention to give the gift of fright (or dare we say, legitimate terror) this Halloween, her evil witch makeup is the ultimate antidote. Just make sure you don't encounter any young children.
Celestial Witch
Looking for something that's more trick-or-treater friendly? We're super into this celestially sculpted witch makeup from YouTube vlogger atleeeey . It's scary but still hauntingly beautiful.
Disney Witch
Disney lovers, prepare yourselves. Although Disney princesses often overtake our costume-studded feeds Halloween night, we're partial to the idea of going against the grain and dressing up as an ill-destined Disney witch instead. To get you inspired, this makeup how-to from Shonagh Scott is probably the most captivating we've seen (and that's a very bold statement).
Old Hollywood-Inspired Witch
While most witches we witness Halloween night are characterized by dark makeup and hair, along with a greenish tinge, we love the idea of purple accents to counter. With bold brows, milky skin, and a metallic pout, this look from Kalei Lagunero gives us some much-needed spooky edge.
Ursula Sea Witch
What's not to love about this beloved Disney villain? From the lilac base to the bright pops of aqua blue eyeshadow, it's all about bold color. YouTuber atleeeey's version features chunky blue glitter around the eyes and a matte red lip to pull it all together.
OK, maybe there's not an actual thing called a Tumblr witch, but this mystical costume makeup by Shania Parris gives off major Tumblr vibes. We're obsessed with the half witch, half glam look.
Winnie From Hocus Pocus
Since Hocus Pocus is the epitome of Halloween, it's no surprise this legendary witch made it on our list. And surprisingly, Alexa Poletti's version is relatively simple. To get Winnie's orange locks, we suggest the Good Dye Young Poser Paste in Riot ($15) that washes out with warm water.
Spider Witch
So you want to be a witch for the holiday festivities, but you don't want to go all out with a tall hat, black cape, and a broom? Taylor Snead has you covered with this spider-glam witch makeup. All you need is a black eyeliner to nail the spiderweb, and you're good to go. The hat and broom are optional.
Here's another excellent option for a makeup-only witch costume—only this version is definitely on the spookier side. The intricate detail of this look lets the makeup do the talking on fright night. After all, anything with a third eye is considered scary enough to stand alone in our books.
If your Halloween goal is to have one of the most memorable costumes of the night, we highly suggest trying Pompberry's winter-themed witch makeup. Swirl a vibrant, cranberry eyeshadow on (and around) your eyes and swipe on a matching berry lip like the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick ($34) in Shanghai Nights.
A creative take on a more nature-inspired witch created by Makeup Mouse is just spooky enough. A hedge witch is ready to grow some flowers and herbs and appreciate all the things nature has to offer.
Pretty Witch
This witch tutorial from Oh!MGlashes pairs an enchanting cut crease with greenish-gold sparkles that make it one to remember. The autumn shadow tones on the eyes mixed with deep, dark lips make this witch makeup look pretty enough to wear to any party.
1950s Witch
Take it back to the 1950s with this witch look, fully equipped with glitter and glam. PinUpDollAshleyMarie shows you how to get the perfect Halloween look if a '50s vibe is what you're going for this season.
Green and purple jewel-toned eyeshadow give ahitsrosa's witch the cutest look—perfect for anyone who wants their makeup to make a statement without looking too scary. Pair it with a brightly colored wig, and you've got the perfect recipe for a witchy look that's also fun.
Graveyard Witch
Most likely to be found in a cemetery, this scary look from Ellarie comes fully equipped with bloodshot eyes and dark lips. You certainly wouldn't want to run into her alone at night, which is why this witch tutorial is at the top of our spooky list.
Blair Witch
Inspired by the infamous scary movie, this witch look gives us deep, dark forest vibes that certainly don't include any happy trees. Created by atleeeey , we never knew that trees could look so spooky.
Gypsy Witch
A witch look with a voodoo twist, the scary level is off the charts with this Halloween witch look from The Modish Mom . Equipped with an ornate headpiece that's sure to draw some attention, you'll undoubtedly have an ominous presence anywhere you go.
Autumn Witch
Think of scary pumpkin spice, and you've got yourself a chilling witch look that is just as cold as dark, autumn nights come October. Miranda Rose shows us how to create this fall witch look, fully equipped with ornate leaves and bold eyeliner. The attention to detail is impressive.
Spooky Witch
A spooky cobweb look is the perfect way to express your witchy self if you want to make a statement with your makeup. This tutorial from Lyric Sherade gives way to the perfect evil smoky eye paired with dreadfully green contour.
Carnival Face Paint Witch
Beautify your witch costume this Halloween using face paint. This tutorial is perfect for a pretty witch who wants to get down with fun colors and lots of glitter. Check out some of the other ornate tutorials for Halloween created by Emily Jayne FX .

A Witch is about as timeless as it gets in terms of belief system Halloween costumes. It's simple and adaptable, so you can make it as gentle or terrifying as you like depending on how far you want to go with your design. Halloween is considered to have originated more than 2,000 years ago, when Celtic tribes celebrated Samhain, or New Year's Day, on November 1st. According to legend, demon spirits would manifest in the ether the day before, on October 31st, as they headed to the afterlife. Celts wore costumes to ward off evil spirits and connect with their ancestors' souls.
Creative Witch Makeup Ideas for Halloween - Make this Year's Costume Pop!
Death is a natural part of nature's cycle, and witches celebrate it. According to them, death is required for the birth of fresh life. Death, on the other hand, is not something that should be anticipated. Some think that spirits that have died in the previous year but have not yet crossed over into the next world will be able to do so at Samhain when the veil between the living and the dead is weakest.
Witches are one of the most traditional, as well as mysterious, Halloween characters. It's easy to imagine an elderly, ugly, hook-nosed woman churning up a boiling potion that's brewing within a cauldron when you think of a Witch. Witches and the act of witchcraft were feared, and the traditions and superstitions surrounding them evolved significantly throughout time. Because of the ancient festival of Samhain which marks the end of the harvest season, there are a lot of legends about witches that have been passed down through the generations.

Halloween and witches are inextricably linked. You can bet that witches will continue to be one of Halloween's most popular costume characters as long as there are children out trick or treating. Knowing and embracing the rich historical significance of witches throughout history will certainly improve your Halloween experience. Making a witch costume for Halloween is a fantastic costume idea that is steeped in tradition and legend. After learning about the history of witches, calling yourself a witch could be a wonderful complement.
Women will choose to dress up as the ugly, aged, and haggard beings depicted in ancient tales and folklore for witch costumes. Modern women enjoy the idea of playing a mystical and magical figure. There's a reason the simple witch costume is a perennial favorite: there's a limitless selection of inventive makeup to choose from.
Spooky Mystical Witch Makeup Ideas

3. A Day-Night Witch-
Split your face in half for a totally unique take on witch makeup one side is beautiful and bright for daytime, while the other is dark and menacing for the depths of the night. This stunning spooky house scene face paint is anything but simple. The black silhouette artwork stands out against the orange and gold background, creating an eye-catching Halloween look .

6. Mysterious Witch-
For amazing effects, you don't need to follow a complicated witch makeup instruction. For a more laid-back look, rely on your clothes to carry you the majority of the way, then add a dark smokey eye and a strongly lined purple lip. 7. Spider Eye Makeup-
A scary tiny spider creeping along its web adds Halloween drama to an already edgy purple smokey eyes. Liquid liners will do the work in assisting you in achieving the clearest lines possible. Apply goth lipstick after making raccoon-like eyes the darker, the better. Then use waterproof eyeliner to paint on a spider for a horrifying effect for kids and adults alike.
8. Masquerade Witch-
A hand-drawn mask with dazzling purple face gems gives an unexpected touch of class to any witch outfit. If you're in a hurry or concerned about your ability to pull off such an intricate design, you may simplify the look by wearing your regular makeup with a dramatic red lip and a lace-adorned mask.

9. The Good Witch-
With this delicate, lovely style, channel the purity of the Good Witch. Finish with a sprinkling of small stick-on pearls to draw attention to the eyes. You don't need much in the way of cosmetics with such a bright color palette. Dark, defined brows, vibrant purple shadow, long, feathery purple fake lashes, and exquisite ombre strands combine to create an ethereal vibe that's appropriate for both adults and children.
10. Headless Witch -
If you're striving for a terrifying look , some strategically placed makeup around the neck will give you the appearance of a headless witch. The simplest method is to use body paint and a brush. It's not as difficult as it appears; simply mix different shades of red and black until your neck is sufficiently bloodied.

Witch makeup ideas
Wicked witch makeup.
Using a foundation brush , generously apply green face paint to cover your face and neck completely. Use a damp makeup sponge to blend it out. If you want more dimension, mix a little black and white eyeshadow into a small amount of green face paint to create contour and highlighting shades.
Fill in your brows with black and add a dramatic smoky eye in black and dark green. Finish with black lipstick . You can also use green eyeshadow for touch-ups, concealer or highlighter .
Scary witch makeup
For a spookier look, use black or gray eyeshadow to create an exaggerated cheek contour. For the eyes, use black and pink shades to do a blown-out smoky eye and add veins or cracked-skin effects using a thin liner brush. Add the same designs around your mouth after applying black or gray lipstick .
Cute witch makeup
If your Halloween vibe is more whimsical than wicked, pair a vampy lipstick with sparkly eyeshadow in orange, purple or green. Play with pops of color in the inner corner of your eye. Add a bright blush and plenty of highlighter. Draw on freckles or add crystal face jewels to complete this sweet look.
Easy witch makeup
If you know how to do a smoky eye , you can be a witch for Halloween. Use cool-toned black and gray eyeshadow shades to blend out a dark smoky eye, then apply a dark sparkly silver to the middle of your lid. Finish the eye look with black liquid eyeliner and use the same eyeliner to draw on small, spooky decals at the outer corner of your eye.
Witch makeup tips
- Don't skip the primer. Eye and face primers will help your look last all night without running or smudging. Finish with a setting spray or powder .
- Draw on spiderwebs, wings or moons using a liquid eyeliner. If you don't trust your art skills, try a pack of spooky makeup stickers or fake tattoos instead.
- Take a classic black lip up a notch and match it to your costume by layering and blending your black lipstick with dark red lipstick or even a shimmery lip-safe eyeshadow.
- Try a pair of false eyelashes for added drama. Apply them as your final step.
- Play with the shape of your lips to add to your costume's supernatural effect. Shade the outer edges with a dark lip liner and fill the center of your lips with a color that corresponds to your costume. Blend with a lip brush.

Witch Makeup Ideas for Adults and Kids
By: Author Rex Knight
Posted on Last updated: July 11, 2023
Tryout a different look this Halloween with our witch makeup ideas. Witches are not only one of the most popular Halloween looks, but they have also been there from the start. According to Insider, witches dominated Halloween and people have been making their own witch and ghost costumes from the 1870’s to the 1890’s.
Adult Witch Costume Ideas
The great thing about 2019 is that witch costumes no longer have to be scary, ugly or wicked. You can be any kind of witch you like! You can be a wicked, good, magical or glamorous witch! Any of the witch makeup ideas listed below are perfect for a spooky Halloween party or event.
#1 What Kind Of Which Are You?
As you scroll through this list of witch makeup ideas think about what kind of witch you want to be this Halloween. Do you want to be a wicked, a classic green or maybe even a white witch?

2. Glittery Cute Witch Makeup
The next cute witch makeup is a fairly simple look that’s stylish and edgy. She has created a fashionable look that you can wear out to any Halloween event. The simple green stripe and glitter really draws your eye and the lipstick is a more subtle shade compared to some of the other witch makeups here. This is one of those witch makeup ideas that anyone can do, without any special skills or tools.
She has finished off the look by drawing a spider, but you could replace it with any symbol of Halloween . For example, a jack-o-lantern or spiderweb would both look good too. This is a nice idea that’s perfect for those who want cute witch makeup that is quick and easy to apply.

3. Not Your Average White Witch
You don’t have to be green to be wicked. This witch makeup idea is a uniquely wicked application. She has painted her face white instead of green, applied red lipstick and lined the lips in a blood red hue. This evil witch makeup looks great! The pink eye shadow highlighting the dark smudges around each eye is a tell-tale sign of wickedness.
Don’t forget to finish your look off by drawing in fissures or cracks along the contours of your face. This is not the easiest witch makeup idea on this list, but it’s worth the extra work to get an amazingly wicked look this Halloween.

4. Keep It Classic
This easy witch makeup is based off of the more classic wicked witch look. She has a nice layer of green makeup and bright red lipstick. It’s a very simple witch makeup to do but it makes for a fun, bright witchy look. To make your look more wicked just darken it up around the eyes and use a less whimsical green colored makeup.
If you are feeling adventurous, you can buy low priced prosthetics and attach them with spirit gum . Check out the picture reviews on this witch nose and chin set to see how good they look when finished with a little green makeup.

5. Spooky Witchy Glam
Maybe you want to look spooky like a witch, but still want to look fantastic? If so, this next look is for you. She has created a stunning witch makeup that can be used for a white witch or for an evil one. The pale base, dark lips and dark eyes are glamorous enough to wear anywhere on Halloween. Technically, you are wearing a witch costume but the beauty makeup gives you the best of both worlds.

What About The Kids
Here are a few witch makeup ideas for kids. Children’s makeup will usually need to be a simple look that won’t be too high maintenance to wear. Letting your child help apply the makeup can make Halloween costumes a fun activity for both of you.
6. Kids Makeup That isn’t Childish
This look is geared towards anyone who wants simple witch makeup for a child, without it looking too childish. This easy witch makeup look won’t annoy your child or cover their face in a mask of makeup.
There are 3 main features of this witch makeup idea. They are MILD darkening around the eyes, applying dark lipstick and blacking out a tooth. Lastly, you can also draw creases on the eyebrows and laugh lines and then add shadows below the cheekbones.
What really makes this design a simple witch makeup for children is that you can add and subtract from it as much as you like. It doesn’t need a lot of shadows around the eyes, so kids can usually handle getting made up. The overall look is a very mature witch, without the “sexy” that saturates adult costumes.

7. Keep It Simple
Here is another simple witch makeup for kids. This look is fairly basic and involves shading a dark circle around the eyes and then adding extra features for fun. You can paint on black lipstick, make wrinkle lines or even draw simple shapes like the bat on the girl’s cheek in the middle panel below.
• The main features of this makeup are to have fun getting ready, do some parent-child bonding and make sure your wicked witch feels great about her spooky look!
She doesn’t have to be the most glamorous witch trick-or-treating, but she will feel like the luckiest kid out there this Halloween.

8. Evil And Cute Witch Makeup
This witch makeup idea is simple to do but looks super spooky. It’s a great addition to any children’s witch costume and can even be used for adults. As you can see in the photos below, there are a few main points to hit if you want to pull off this spooky look. Draw a design around the lips, the eyes and then add a spiderweb somewhere on your child’s face. After you hit all three of these spots you can fill in optional places on the face like the nose, eyebrows and cheeks if you want to.
It’s a great look that can really make your Halloween witch a hit in 2019.

Broomsticks, pointy hats, black cats and big noses: there’s no costume more timeless and classic than a witch. But even more important than her famous accessories, the modern-day witch completes her spooky ensemble with some fierce makeup. Whether you want to go green and ghoulish, subtle and sexy, or something in between, there’s a wicked witch look out there that will have you practically cackling with glee.
Painting and Altering Your Face

- Rub on your primer, then dab foundation on your face and blend it out with a brush, extending down and blending with the skin on your upper neck.
- Using your fingers, rub concealer under your eyes or on any spots, then brush on some powder to help the makeup set.
- Your eyes will be pretty dramatic, so you can either keep the contouring subtle or use it to enhance the witchy look even more.
- Squeeze some paint onto a palette or paper plate and use a soft makeup sponge to dab it onto your face, blending as you go.
- Apply it as close as you can to your hairline, onto your ears if they’ll be exposed, and down your neck and chest to meet the neckline of your dress or shirt. Leave your eyelids bare, since you’ll be doing a smoky eye look later.
- Dab away the excess paint afterwards with a fresh sponge.
- Can’t figure out where to contour your cheeks? Pull a “fish face” to make your cheekbones pop and apply your eyeshadow.

Applying Eye Makeup
- Brush some matte black eyeshadow onto the top of your eyelid and follow the crease line out. Then, use a green eyeshadow to blend it out into your green face paint, towards your nose and underneath the the lash line.
- Choose a bright green shadow for the main part of the lids and apply with a small brush.
- Use a black liquid liner to create a thick line just below your lower lashes and above your upper ones. Extend it out into the cat-eye tail and blend it out.
- Use your fingers to spread primer on your eyelids up to your eyebrows. Then, rub on a brightly-colored eyeshadow with your fingers, using multiple layers to make the color pop. Try green or purple for a classic witchy look, or experiment with other neon colors.
- Blend a matte brown eyeshadow into the crease of your eye with a large blending brush, just above the colored eyeshadow. With a smaller, tapered brush, blend a black eyeshadow into the outer corner of your eye and into the crease.
- To make your colored eyeshadow pop, use a small brush to swipe on white eyeshadow below your brow and along the inner corner of your eye.
- Apply a black liquid liner along your upper lid, following the crease outwards towards your temple.
Adding Embellishments

- You can stick on your prosthetics before your do your makeup, or add them on after and swipe on a bit of extra green paint.
- For a non-green witch, you can also use brown eyeliner to define your brows.
- Choose a black or purple lipstick for an intense, dramatic effect, or go with a slighter darker shade of green than your main face paint color. You’ll look spooky and witchy either way.

- Face paint can be difficult to clean out of a makeup sponge. If you can, use an old one that you can throw away afterwards. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0

Spellbound Witch – Halloween Makeup Tutorial

For as long as I can remember, I always dressed up as a witch on Halloween. Except one year when I dressed up as a weird ghost thing, a memory I try very hard to forget! I even have pictures from when I was around 4 years old adorned in my full witch outfit. I had it all, the strap on pointed nose, complete with a hairy wort. The plastic fingers with pointed nails that you put on top of your own; they always smelt so bad and came off half way through the night. The tall, pointed black hat which was always too big for me and fell half way down my face. I even had a black cape and an authentic, twiggy witches broom. Complete with sparkly black tights, I was always the best dressed little witch!
Dressing Up
But as I’ve gotten older, I kind of lost the dressing up aspect of the season and haven’t gone all out for a while. But now I love that it’s the perfect excuse to go a bit crazy. It’s a time when imperfection is the key, and being a bit bizarre is nothing but encouraged. For me, this means trying new looks that I would never dream of doing any other time of the year. It’s about putting those light, subtle, natural shades to the side. And finally finding an excuse to use those darker shades that were always left untouched.

I love being a bit creative and embrace any excuse to experiment. So what better way than to try a few new looks on the spookiest season of all. Because I loved dressing up as a witch so much, I thought it was only right to do the makeup to match. Instead of just smudging some black face paint around, I thought it was time to finally complete my look. And if you’re being true to the holiday, you need to go all out and have a truly believable costume! And I’m not just talking about a bog standard green painted face, this is something a little bit more authentic.
The Perfect Witch
It’s all focused on the pale matte skin, which lets the black and purple really stand out. Dark, black eyebrows accentuate the darkness of the look and help to give a more eerie feel. And everyone knows that a good witch needs a pointy nose, and the answer’s all in the contouring. The key is to use darker colours on both sides of the nose and highlight the tip; this helps give the appearance of a pointy nose for a true witchy feel. Now here’s my favourite part; the lips and eyes.

Here’s where it really gets a bit bonkers and starts to feel like a true Halloween look. Dark, pointed eyeliner blended into purple and black and purple ombre lips. I love how much this stands out on the paler background, and it truly does look like hat I would imagine a witch to look like. It’s spooky with a touch of glamour, and has the true witch vibe without being too over the top.
i absolutely love this look. It has such a spooky, witchy feel to it and it’s kind of scary-pretty, if that even makes sense. It gives you a true Halloween vibe and is the perfect finishing touch to any costume. To make it believable you need to go all out. And this makeup is definitely the perfect finishing touch. Honestly, I was a bit alarmed when I first saw myself. It’s the complete opposite of anything I’ve ever tried and took a bit of adjusting to. But the longer it was on, the more I learned to love it and truly felt like I was part of the holiday.

So, what are you waiting for? Time to embrace your darker side, as well as them darker colours.
To a very spooky night!
Witch Make Up Tutorial:
Be the most glamorous witch in the room with a touch of something special!
What You Need:
- Regular Foundation
- Red Liquid Blusher / Cheek Stain
- White Face Powder
- Purple Eyeshadow
- Black Eyeshadow
- Liquid Eyeliner – Black
- Mascara – Black
- Black Lipstick
- Deep Purple Lipstick / Gloss
- Lilac Lipstick / Gloss
- White Highlighter / Eyesahdow
- Darker Contour Powder / Brown Eyeshadow
- Various Makeup Brushes
Getting The Look:
- Cleanse, tone and moisturise face, then add your usual primer .
- Apply your regular foundation all over the face.
- Use a red liquid blusher, and apply colour high on the cheekbone. Apply it quite thickly so that the result is quite bright, and gives an ‘overdone’ look.
- Add white powder all over the face.

- Wet an eye shadow brush and sweep purple onto the eyelids, and under bottom lashes. This helps to intensify the colour.

- Use an angled brush to apply black eyeshadow to the outer corners of the eye, going above the eyelid crease and below the lower lash line, creating a curve.

- With liquid eyeliner draw 2 dots in a diagonal line – One at each outer corner of the eye, roughly 1cm out – This will be used as guidelines to create a flick.

- Line the top and bottom of the eyes with the eyeliner, connecting the dots, making the outer edges slightly thicker.
- Now time to create the spiderweb. Choose an eye and using the eye liner , draw 4-5 slightly curved lines coming outwards from the eyeliner already applied.

- Draw connecting swoop lines between each curved line to create the image of a ‘spiderweb’.
- Wet a thin brush, and apply purple eye shadow following the point of the eyeliner down to the inner eye.
- Colour the eyebrows black using the black eye shadow
- Apply thick mascara, to both top and bottom lashes.
- Use black lipstick to draw a thick outline of the lips, leaving the centre blank.

- Fill in the centre of the lips with purple lipstick/lip gloss , overlapping the black and blending it in.
- Use a flat brush to dab lilac lipstick to the very centre of the lips, creating an ombre effect.

- Apply a darker powder to the inside bridge of the nose and BLEND!
- With highlighter/white eye shadow , sweep along the tip of the nose up towards the forehead, to create a ‘pointed’ effect.

And that’s it, you’ve been transformed into a spell bounding, glamorous witch!

Witch Makeup Ideas

Cute Witch Makeup
Skip the scary costume this year and make your witch a cute one using this makeup tutorial. It features a bright eye with a light-green shade highlighting the lower lash line, while a glittery deep purple covers the lid. For added cuteness, put on some fake freckles to ensure people know your character is a good witch.

Easy Witch Makeup
This easy witch makeup look is instantly elevated with the use of colored-contacts. Simply create a smoky eye with a slightly grey-toned base, pop in your contacts, and you're good to go. If you want to go all out, you can also follow her tutorial for creating the curly wig.

Modern Witch Makeup
Keep things simple and easy with this witch makeup look inspired by the classic Halloween movie, "The Craft." The look is more of a modern take on the timeless costume featuring a sliced eyebrow, lined eyes, over-lined lips, and a tiny upside-down cross to top it off. Complete the costume with an all black outfit to really sell the costume.

Witch Eye Makeup
Make your eyes pop with a shade most spellcasters adore: green. This witch eye-makeup look will have friends hypnotized. The base features a soft green shadow, which you can customize. Then, add a black spiderweb for added spookiness.

Pretty Witch Makeup
Ooze seduction and grace just like the timeless "The Love Witch." This '60s-inspired makeup relies on bold vibrant colors, such as coral and light blue. When paired with a soft pink, people will be falling in love at first sight — just like in the movie. And who doesn't love a classic Twiggy eyelash moment?

Sexy Witch Makeup
If you're interested in creating a sexy witch makeup look for Halloween, give this tutorial a try. The completed look has a cut-crease eyeshadow moment that you can customize with the color of your choice. It's also versatile enough to be paired with whatever outfit you choose.

Gothic Witch Makeup
Go for a gothic look with this take on witch Halloween makeup. It incorporates a shiny highlighter that will leave people mesmerized. Instead of a dark smoky eye, it uses a more subtle hue, which allows the top and bottom eyeliner to steal the show.

Wicked Witch Makeup
Your Wicked Witch of the West costume from "The Wizard of Oz" won't be complete without an all-green face to go with it. This tutorial adds a contemporary twist, nixing the warts and a big nose, for a touch of glam and beauty.

Simple Witch Makeup
This simple witch makeup involves a beautiful smoked-out eyeshadow look, but it's the black lipstick, black veins, and crescent drawing on the forehead that make it easy to complete.

Green Witch Makeup
Looking for something quick and simple? All you need to do is grab green eyeshadow, black lipstick, and green glitter, and this look can be yours in just a few minutes.

Glamorous Witch Makeup
If you want something heavy on the eye makeup that still stays on theme, check out this glamorous witch makeup tutorial. It features an orange and purple cut-crease eyeshadow look and black lipstick that will have everyone staring in the best way possible.

What about Witch Boudoir Ideas?

Credit: Anya Juárez Tenorio
One popular Halloween costume is a sexy witch, which, when done appropriately, makes for tasteful boudoir photographs .
Being able to dress up and feel sexy is a fantastic feeling and the perfect way to elevate your self-confidence.
Add fun props to your witch boudoir session, such as witch hats, skulls, cauldrons, crystal balls, pumpkins, tarot cards, candles, a witch’s broom, an oversized spell book, and fog to create a spooky yet sexy setting.
If you’re looking for witch boudoir outfit ideas, think about anything you’d expect to see a traditional witch wearing but a little more revealing.
(It doesn’t have to be expensive, either – check out our DIY boudoir ideas .
Boudoir costume ideas may include lingerie, shorts with thigh-high boots, sexy body suits, gothic witch tops, and corset dress bustiers.
Of course, you’ll want to stick to dark colors like black or midnight blue to convey that witchy mood in your shoot.
A simple bra and panties with a witch’s broom and hat are another easy wardrobe option for boudoir sessions.
So make your Halloween a bit sexier and plan a fun, provocative witch boudoir photoshoot.

11 Tips for a Scarily Successful Coven Photoshoot

Credit: Sierra Koder
Gathering in the woods with your witchy friends is the perfect opportunity to take eerie coven-style photographs.
Here are some tips for a scarily successful coven photoshoot:
1. Plan ahead
Start by sitting down together and brainstorming ideas – note down all of them, even the whacky ones!
Once you’ve narrowed down your ideas, pre-plan your outfits, props, and locations for the coven photoshoot. Make a list of everything you need so you’re organized on the day.
2. Collect inspiration pictures
If you see images online that grab you – whether it’s the wardrobe, the poses or the overall scene – save them as inspiration.
You can create a mood board for your shoot to consolidate your ideas and refer back to it on the day of the shoot.
You can also send the pictures to a professional photographer if you decide to work with one, to help communicate what you’re after.
3. Think about props

Props can take your witch photoshoot to the next level. For example, you might plan a bonfire and dance around it carrying crystal balls, skulls, and witch’s brooms.
Props can also help you set the scene for a séance, tarot reading, or other witchcraft activity.
- What are some family Grinch photoshoot ideas?
4. Try special effects

Credit: Erik Mclean
Consider investing in some special effects like smoke bombs , a fog machine, or colored paint powder .
For example, use candles and stand in the woods as the fog machine covers the ground with an eerie mist.
5. Take photos from different angles
Try shooting from above downwards to get a bird’s eye view of the coven at work.
Or, shoot from low down to make the enchantresses look larger than life.
6. Nail your depth of field
The depth of field you need will differ depending on the effect you want. To get the background in focus as well as the subjects, use a wide depth of field.
To create some eerie floating lights behind the coven, string up some fairy lights and use a shallow depth of field (low f-stop number) to get a bokeh effect.
7. Shoot at the right time of day
If you’re doing your witch photoshoot outdoors, plan for a time of day when the light isn’t too bright. Harsh midday sun is never the most flattering for photographing people because it creates hard shadows.
Instead, try the golden hour for a magical scene or twilight (the blue hour) for a darker, more eerie mood.
(Read more on how to take blue hour photos .)
8. Harness ambient light sources
Street lights or porch lights can make for stunning ambient light sources in a moody photoshoot. Bump up the ISO to compensate for the low light , or use a tripod and a slightly slower shutter speed to get enough detail into your shots.
9. Capture movement
A slower shutter speed can also be used without a tripod to deliberately capture motion blur and add a sense of mystery and movement to the images. For example, capture the movement of the witches holding hands and dancing in a circle.
10. Get creative in post-processing
Editing your images – even using a free image editor – can take them from merely good to eye-poppingly awesome. Play with contrast and shadows to heighten the mood.
You can even try double-exposures to create an eerie, ghost-like effect.
Bonus: How do you do witch photoshoot makeup?

Credit: Beatriz Braga
Outfits are critical to a successful witch photoshoot, but makeup can mean the difference between a boring shoot and an epic one.
It’s ok if you’re not an experienced makeup artist. Even if you’re not a fan of putting on lots of makeup, you can create spooky witch makeup perfect for your Halloween or coven photoshoot.
One common witch makeup design is painting the face green using face or body paint, and adding a long prosthetic nose with a wart. Enhance this look by adding bright metallic purple eyeshadow and lipstick, creating a colorful and contrasting look.
Another fun idea is to use vibrant orange glitter eyeshadow and eyeliner or face paint to draw spider webs below the outer corners of the eyes and draw a dangling spider on one side of the face.
Creating a gory witch using makeup can make for an exciting photoshoot if you love horror movies, so hunt online for some tutorial videos to follow along with.
Lastly, you could take cues from Hollywood and go for a more subtle and elegant witchy makeup design. Channel Morticia Addams with dark, smoky eyeshadow, heavy eyebrows and red lips for a flattering yet spooky look.

16 Creative Barbie Makeup Ideas For Halloween 2023 That Are So Glam
More pink, please.

The summer of 2023 was basically defined by the highly-anticipated, instant classic Barbie movie starring none other than Margot Robbie (who is basically a Barbie girl IRL). Leading up to the star-studded film and long after its theater release, all things Barbiecore — from hot pink manicures to permanent tattoos that nod to the film — have been at an all time high.
With Halloween just around the corner, it makes all the sense in the world that Barbie-inspired costumes are sure to reign. And while some may assume that means every costume will look the same, that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Just like in the film , every Barbie had her own identity. While Robbie’s character was named “stereotypical Barbie,” with outfits that ranged from disco dancer to a vibrant pink cowgirl, there were also distinct characters like mermaid Barbie , president Barbie, writer Barbie, weird Barbie...you get the idea.
For those who want to doll up their own personal identities, there are endless ideas for spooky season. Below, find the most unique Barbie-inspired makeup ideas for Halloween 2023, from a simple look that’s Margot Robbie-approved to more out-there glam moments that match even the boldest of aesthetics.

How heidi klum became the undisputed queen of celebrity halloween.

For over two decades now, Heidi Klum has served up tricks, treats and ever-outlandish ensembles to retain her title as the queen of celebrity Halloween costumes , arriving at her annual bash on or in gurneys, spaceships, biohazard trucks and clouds of smoke.
And that’s before we even get to the looks themselves.
When the German model first moved to the United States in 1993, she “immediately fell in love with Halloween and the spookiness of it ,” Klum told The Hollywood Reporter in 2018. “All that was missing was a fantastic party. It felt like a real opportunity for me.”
In the years since, Klum has spent hundreds of hours in, and likely hundreds of thousands of dollars on, hair, makeup and prosthetics preparing for her star-studded festivities, dedicated to her goal of doing for Halloween what nobody has dared do before.
From pagan spirits to Wonder Woman: A brief history of the Halloween costume
“I have sleepless nights over Halloween; you have no idea,” Klum told People magazine earlier this month . “I can’t rehearse this; it’s only on the day. I always hope that it works out.”
Musing over what her next costume will be often begins the day after Halloween, she told THR, because of both enthusiasm and needing ample time to construct such elaborate costumes.
We’ve yet to see what Klum has up her sleeve this spooky season, though she did tell Entertainment Tonight that “it’s going to be very colorful, and super big.” For now, then, here are some of her most iconic Halloween looks from years past — from 2022 dating back to the early aughts.
2022: The worm

Last Halloween, Klum wriggled and writhed into her annual party as a very realistic earthworm, with only her eyes peeking through the sculptural worm-suit itself. (She later changed into a sheer bedazzled bodysuit for the party — lest she be limited to doing the worm on the dance floor — but left her facial prothesis on.)
Klum’s husband Tom Kaulitz accompanied her on the red carpet dressed as a fisherman with a ghoulish twist — a prosthetic eyeball hanging from his socket.
2019: The skin graft zombie

Perhaps one of Klum’s creepiest costumes, her 2019 look saw her dressed in a head-to-toe bodysuit resembling a decomposing body — scarred and visceral, flayed in parts and with an exposed brain — seemingly revivified by cables and other surgical bits.
Klum and Kaulitz — a zombified astronaut, naturally — arrived together in a biohazard truck.
See Beyoncé’s best looks from her haute couture-rich Renaissance tour
2018: The ogre

In 2018 Klum and Kaulitz dressed as animated movie stars Fiona and Shrek, respectively, in costumes so realistic it was as if they had walked off a character parade float at Universal Studios.
2017: The “Thriller” werewolf

Back in 2017, Klum paid homage to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video by recreating the werewolf look Jackson transformed into in the music video’s movie-within-a-movie opening scene. As well as meticulously copying the clothes Jackson wore in the video, the costume also incorporated prosthetics, so Klum’s werewolf face moved with her own features. (Klum’s zombie entourage, also pictured above, referenced the second horror movie trope referenced in “Thriller.”)
2016: The clones

Technically this wasn’t a costume “on” Klum, because she came to her party dressed as herself. Her Halloween twist, though, came with her plus-one — or plus-five, rather: a group of models she enlisted to appear as clones, using eerily-accurate prosthetics and identical outfits.
2015: The cartoon bombshell

Halloween is often synonymous with “sexy,” and in 2015 Klum went as one of Hollywood’s most iconic sex symbols, Jessica Rabbit — a costume both realistic and yet also so quintessentially cartoonish. The costume’s two hours-long removal at the end of the night — which cost her some of her own skin — called for a nail polish remover-like substance and a chisel, Klum told People magazine.
‘Darkitecture’: The art and psychology of haunted house design
2014: The butterfly

As a longtime Victoria’s Secret Angel, Klum had spent years wearing wings for the lingerie brand’s annual Fashion Show, but never ones quite like this. For her 2014 party, Klum become a butterfly — with wings hand-painted by artisans who’d worked on Victoria’s Secret Angels’ wings. Her glowing bugs’ eyes were powered by batteries placed inside the mask, near her real eyes.
2013: The senior citizen

Klum aged herself by a few decades for this Halloween costume. From head to toe, she was made unrecognizable with layers upon layers of makeup and prosthetics that gave her wrinkles, sagging skin, age spots and yellow teeth. (Nonetheless, she donned an elegant tweed twinset, paired with a paisley blouse, pearls and a tan handbag.)
“Just going into my future is what I wanted to do for myself,” she told Yahoo Entertainment in 2022 . “I wanted to, like, look in the mirror and be like, ‘OK, I want to see, you know, what I might look like when I’m like in my 80s.”
2011: The flayed body — and the ape

A predecessor of sorts to her alien zombie look, Klum in 2011 wore a body suit (and matching face paint) designed to look like the human body sans skin. She made a grand entrance to her first of two parties that year in Las Vegas rolling in on a gurney pushed by two people dressed as bloody doctors.
How the clothes in ‘Euphoria’ became a powerful storytelling device
But that wasn’t all — in her second look for a party in New York City, Klum and then-husband Seal donned outfits inspired by the “Planet of the Apes” films.
“We didn’t really think about, you know, going to the bathroom,” Klum told Yahoo Entertainment of the costumes. “It was very tricky.”
2010: The glam robot

In preparation for her red and purple costume that transformed her into a “Transformers”-worthy robot, for days Klum practiced walking on stilts in her backyard, she told People magazine. “It was amazing, though, because I was so tall and I could just tower over everyone,” Klum said — until she’d had a few drinks.
2006: The Garden of Eden

Then nine months pregnant with her third child, Klum and then-husband Seal dressed as the biblical forbidden fruit (wrapped by the serpent, no less) and Eve, respectively. The original sin here, though, is the lack of effort put into Seal’s ensemble.
2004: The vampire witch

In a testament to just how over-the-top Klum’s costumes have become, it’s telling that her 2004 look — a sexy vampire witch costume which featured a voluminous wig, oversize witch’s hat, knee-high boots and blood red makeup — now seems positively understated. “I was rigged from the ceiling and then I was flying over all the people like ‘Happy Halloween ha ha ha’ on my broom with a skeleton on my back,” she told People of her grand entrance to that year’s party.
Since she wanted a full, realistic skeleton, Klum bought one from a supply store for doctor’s office materials.
2003: The gold-grilled E.T.

At her 2003 party, Klum made her arrival by exiting a golden spaceship, dressed as a cyberpunk-style golden alien. Reminiscent also of the Grecian god Hermes, her look featured gold armor and boots with leaf accents, golden belt detailing, gold body glitter, a golden grill and gold ribbons woven into her long braids.
2001: The Anglo-Saxon legend

In 2001, Klum dressed as the 11th-century Anglo-Saxon gentlewoman Lady Godiva. Though the eponymous legend told of Godiva’s naked ride through the English town of Coventry on horseback, Klum covered up, wearing a white bodysuit with crystalline detailing. She added a long blonde wig.
“I was always looking for something that I hadn’t seen, and so I was Lady Godiva,” Klum told People magazine. “I came on a horse, obviously. It was a police horse from New York City.”
