In 2003, Dan Hopkins, a local farmer, attempted to revive the once thriving Seven Oaks Chicken Farm. He believed the answer to success was to order some rare, genetically-altered roosters from Kathmandu. All was well, until these foreign birds experienced tremendous growth. Their already treacherous claws elongating into horrifying and dangerous weapons. The 20,000 chickens, already residing in Dan’s flock, started disappearing at an alarming rate. But no one could find signs of FOWL play. It was as if they had never existed. The hens vanished, while the roosters grew. Dan was sure these hideous monstrosities from overseas were to blame!
Dan took it upon himself to launch a massive attack, attempting to annihilate the super roosters. However, he was immediately mauled by the overgrown, yellow-feathered beasts, that began to rip out all his hair and teeth. Dan blacked out. The last image he saw, was a monstrously threatening gaze, implying he should never return.
When finally released from the hospital, he returned to Seven Oaks. He found less than 5000 chickens remained of his once flourishing brood. Fed up with this travesty, he declared war on these freaks of nature. Mustering all his remaining strength and courage, he mounted an assault using machetes, knives, guns, poison, attack dogs and night vision weapons, sure to destroy even the strongest of adversaries. But, again, it was to no avail. All this did was piss them off!
His antics earned him the Name “CHICKEN DAN” from the local Hollis residents. This was due to his crazy demeanor and his tendency to be covered in blood and feathers.
Dan found himself chicken less, save for the savage pack of 6 that had taken over the once blossoming poultry population. One final attack was launched to rid him of these evil creatures, but the outcome, again, was grim. With beaks and spurs, they tore Chicken Dan to shreds. The attacks were so brutal, that they managed to gouge out part of his voice box!
After his extensive recovery, Chicken Dan returned to the chicken house, only to find it totally empty. Finally, he was rid of this resident evil, or so he thought. The following year, they returned. They were stronger, larger, and even more consumed with their insatiable blood lust.
Dan had one more ingenious idea. He reached out to slashers and monsters alike, searching the very bowels of hell itself, in order to bring forth the most ruthless of demons, hoping they could oppose these flightless killers. The battle resumed, only this time he had an army of 800 now bolstering his war upon the mutants. With countless losses to both sides, the war wages on.
Every fall, the menacing feathered brutes return. Chicken Dan, and his militant army of monsters, wage all-out war against them. Within the chicken house, upon hay covered wagons, even mounted in a short bus driven by a psychopath, they stand their ground. Every year, thousands of brave individuals join the fight to free Chicken Dan and restore the once peaceful serenity that has been stolen from this picturesque land in Hollis, Alabama.
This year, more help is needed! Come to the Haunted Chicken House. Chicken Dan wants you!

The Haunted Chicken House: Where Nightmares Take Flight
As the leaves turn and the crisp chill of autumn fills the air, it can mean only one thing for the small town of Hollis, Alabama—the return of the Halloween season. But this isn't your typical pumpkin patch and apple cider kind of celebration. No, in Hollis, Halloween brings forth a chilling tale that has been haunting the town for years. It's a story that involves genetically altered roosters, a farmer's unwavering determination, and a battle that refuses to die.
In 2003, a local farmer named Dan Hopkins embarked on an ambitious venture to revive the once-thriving Seven Oaks Chicken Farm. Little did he know that his decision to import rare, genetically altered roosters from Kathmandu would set off a chain of events that would terrify the town for years to come.
These foreign birds, at first, seemed like the answer to Dan's dreams of success. But as they grew, so did their already treacherous claws, elongating into horrifying and dangerous weapons. The 20,000 chickens in Dan's flock started vanishing at an alarming rate, leaving behind no clues as if they had never existed. The hens disappeared, while the roosters grew into hideous monstrosities from overseas, or so Dan believed.
Dan's response was to launch an all-out assault on the super roosters, but the outcome was far from what he expected. Mauled by the overgrown, yellow-feathered beasts, Dan blacked out, his last vision a monstrously threatening gaze that implied he should never return.
After a grueling hospital stay, Dan returned to Seven Oaks, only to find less than 5,000 chickens remaining of his once-flourishing brood. Determined to rid himself of these monstrous creatures, he declared war, launching multiple attacks using machetes, knives, guns, poison, attack dogs, and night vision weapons. Yet, these efforts only served to further enrage the roosters, earning Dan the ominous nickname "CHICKEN DAN" from the local Hollis residents.
Despite his relentless assaults, Dan found himself with only six savage roosters remaining, and he believed he had finally rid himself of these evil creatures. However, they returned the following year, stronger and more bloodthirsty than ever.
In a last-ditch effort, Dan reached out to slashers and monsters, summoning a ruthless army of demons to oppose the flightless killers. With an army of 800, the battle resumed, resulting in countless losses on both sides.
Every fall, the menacing roosters return, and Chicken Dan, along with his army of monsters, wage all-out war against them. The battleground includes the chicken house, hay-covered wagons, and even a short bus driven by a psychopath. Thousands of brave individuals join the fight to free Chicken Dan and restore the peaceful serenity that has been stolen from Hollis, Alabama.
This year, more help is needed, and the Haunted Chicken House beckons all who dare to join the battle. Chicken Dan wants you to stand alongside him and face the horrors that have plagued his land for years. As the Halloween season dawns, prepare for an unforgettable experience where nightmares take flight, and the legend of the Haunted Chicken House continues to grow.
This haunted house legend has got to be a one-of-a-kind, and props to them for making the whole haunted house theme a bit more kid-friendly. This locally famous Halloween spot is extremely popular and attendees have consistently attested to its quality and showmanship. This year the doors open Friday, September 22, 2023. Recent Grocery Price Trends in the Southeast: What's More Expensive and What's Becoming Affordable
Grocery shoppers in the South had become accustomed to the relentless rise in food prices over the past couple of years, driven by a series of unprecedented events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions, labor disruptions, and surging consumer demand. However, there seems to be a slight respite on the horizon, as data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that grocery prices experienced a brief dip earlier this year, offering consumers some relief. Although prices have not returned to pre-pandemic levels, they have stabilized, with inflation rates slowing down, thanks in part to the Federal Reserve's efforts to curb the rampant inflation.

Opinion: What is Our Government Doing These Days?
I find it highly peculiar that the government has been directing its unbreakable focus on funding and outfitting the unwinnable war to protect the so-called freedoms of a small nation known for widespread corruption. The way our foreign policy has been handled, as of late, is spurring debates from many concerned citizens. Many have been left questioning the sanity behind the unbelievable amount of funds being sent to Ukraine while not far away, Israel faces threats from terrorists who were essentially left with billions of dollars worth of advanced military weapons in their possession. Furthermore, the release of funds that the U.S. had frozen also added to the already tipped scale.

Alabama is no exception to this, and as of November 2022, it was still struggling with the impact of the virus.

'The Haunted House on McAllister Road' brings scares for a cause
When the Haunted House on McAllister Road first opened last Halloween season, Pennfield High School parent Jaimie Flynn wasn’t expecting it to become a hit.
“I was afraid we were going to sit here all night with no one coming through,” Flynn said. “And all of a sudden, it’s like dark came and they just started rolling in.”
That success was good news not only for the students and volunteers, but for the Battle Creek community at large. The attraction collects toys, food and cash to be donated directly back to local families throughout the holiday season.
The haunted house is largely built and operated by students in the Pennfield High School foreign exchange program, which Flynn is a host mother for. Students receive community service hours for their time spent building and scaring, along with the pride of giving back to the community.
“When the guidance counselor comes and picks them up and we fill their car with all of the gifts for these families, it makes you proud because then it's like your hard work really did do something in the end,” Flynn said.
Jaimie’s son, Robert Flynn, is in his second year helping with the attraction. Like his mother, he was surprised at the success of last year’s program.
“Last year I didn’t really expect it to get as big as it was,” he said. “Word spread and by the third night it was ridiculous.”
Decorations for the attraction’s interior are largely homemade, transforming everyday supplies like chicken wire into ghastly figures. Costumed students wait around each turn to bring the house to life.
With twists and tunnels spanning most of Flynn’s property and barn, the haunt reaches an impressive size that is sure to make for a memorable night.
The Haunted House on McAllister Road will be open from Oct. 27-31 at 19947 McAllister Road, beginning after sundown. More information can be found at the attraction’s Facebook page .

When she found out, Sofya died instantly of a broken heart, her husband passed away a little later. The flat on the second floor at 64 Gorokhovaya street in St. Petersburg is today a usual residential apartment. However, in the early 20th century it was home to one of the most mystical figures in Russian history – Grigory Rasputin. His ghost sometimes appears here, scaring inhabitants with its clunking steps and grunting in dark corners.
7. House on the Embankment

This house at 2 Serafimovicha Street, simply known as “House on Embankment,” is among the most famous in the Russian capital, known as the place of residence for the Soviet crème de la crème : writers, artists, actors, generals, athletes. However, it also has a dark history. During the Great Purge, a campaign of political repressions in the USSR, dozens of the house’s inhabitants were arrested and executed. Today, the house is full of the ghosts of those victims, who sometimes appear in their old dwelling place.
8. Tower of the old hospital in Ryazan

Among the high-rise modern buildings at 15 Gorky Street in Ryazan is an old tower – all that remains of the old hospital. At night, a lonely dark figure can be seen walking in this tower. This is the ghost of Alexander Smitten, who administered the hospital more than a century ago.
9. Griboyedov Canal in St. Petersburg

During a misty night in March, one can see the ghost of a young girl near the Griboyedov Canal in St. Petersburg. Her face is blue because of asphyxiation, and there is a big red mark on her neck caused by a rope. This is famous revolutionary Sophia Perovskaya, who assassinated Tsar Alexander II and was hanged for her deed. To meet this ghost is a bad omen, and can cost nocturnal pedestrians their lives.
10. Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin

There is a legend that when the Kremlin in Nizhny Novgorod was being built, the constructors were unable to finish one of the towers. It kept falling down. In the end, they decided to make a sacrifice and to build the tower on the blood of the first person who passed by. It happened to be a pregnant woman hurrying to the river for water. She was seized and bricked up in the tower alive. The ghost of a pale woman holding a baby has appeared near this place ever since.
11. Oldenburg Palace near Voronezh

Built in the late 19th century, the palace belonged to Princess Eugenia of Leuchtenberg. Today her ghost rises from the deep casemates of the palace to wander through its rooms and corridors. There is also another ghost there, much older — the ghost of a young peasant girl. It is even said that Princess Eugenia saw it when she was alive.
12. Stalin’s country house near Sochi

Stalin’s ghost can be seen at his country house, located today within the Green Groove hotel near Sochi. The “father of the nations” walks in his white jacket, smoking his trademark pipe.
13. Psychiatric hospital near Nizhny Novgorod

Near the modern psychiatric hospital in the village of Lyakhovo near Nizhny Novgorod, one can see an abandoned old building. Several dozen years ago a young girl hanged herself there because of unrequited love. At night it is possible to see a white silhouette and hear the moaning and cries of the “love-stricken schoolgirl” as the locals call her.

Here's What To Expect At Long Island's Haunted House Of Hamburgers
Long Island's Haunted House of Hamburgers restaurant celebrates Halloween all year-round; here's what to expect while visiting!
- The Haunted House of Hamburgers in Long Island is a Halloween-themed restaurant that celebrates the holiday all year round.
- Owner Jordan Desner combined his love for Halloween and hamburgers to create the unique concept of the restaurant.
- The menu offers a variety of spooky-themed food and drinks, with burgers being a highlight, along with a Little Haunters Menu for kids. The restaurant's interior is decorated with animatronics and ghoulish artwork to enhance the dining experience.
Things to do Halloween can often consist of visiting a haunted house or attending a festival but heading to a Halloween-themed bar or restaurant can also provide a fun night out.
For example, New York City's Halloween activities are plentiful, while Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" brings visitors to this village in Hudson Valley . Major fans of the holiday might want to consider heading to Long Island. Why? It’s because this coastal destination is home to a Halloween-themed restaurant dishing out both food and frights.
What To Know About The Haunted House Of Hamburgers
Located in Farmingdale, in Long Island's Nassau County, the Haunted House of Hamburgers honors Halloween on more than one day. In fact, this about 2,500-square-foot standalone restaurant celebrates the holiday 365 days a year.
The Haunted House of Hamburgers was opened by owner Jordan Desner in October 2022, based upon his lifelong obsession with all things Halloween. He added, ironically, that he was born on Friday the 13th.
Desner is also a big aficionado of hamburgers, so he decided to create a marriage of his two favorite things in opening this restaurant. He also made a lot of headlines with the debut of Haunted House of Hamburgers, being quoted in newspapers and having TV stations throughout Long Island come out to film.
Related: 10 Best, Spookiest, & Scariest Haunted Attractions In The U.S.
In reaching out to ask Desner about Haunted House of Hamburgers, he replied that in wanting to open such a Halloween-themed place, he wanted to do something different.
“I love food, so I guess that it makes sense,” said Desner. "People love hamburgers. People love Halloween. It just made sense.”
What's On The Menu At Haunted House Of Hamburgers?
The lunch and dinner menu at the Haunted House of Hamburgers includes an assortment of food orders whose names perfectly fit with Halloween. Listed on the restaurant's website, choices involve common pub grub with chicken sandwiches, soups, flatbread pizzas, side dishes, and hot dogs.
Burgers get their billing with not one but two menu sections. A build-your-own burger section lists a choice of patty (beef, turkey, or Impossible), different cheeses, and toppings.
The other burger section gets into the spirit of the season with signature combinations. Most of them are served on a toasted brioche bun, but gluten-free buns are also available at an additional cost.
The Zombie Burger comes with a juicy charbroiled patty with a fried egg, avocado, bacon, and your choice of cheese. Or try the Tarantula Burger, stacked with crispy bacon, pepper jack cheese, onion strings, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and garlic mayo.

For children, there’s a “Little Haunters Menu” with kid-friendly choices including mac and cheese, a hot dog or corn dog, or hamburgers or cheeseburger sliders. The “Undead Desserts” are just as fun with the option of creating your own sundae or going with the Death by Chocolate Cake.
As for drinks, there are cocktails and mocktails along with regular sodas, beers, and wines available. The list of “Crypt Keeper Cocktails” includes Frankenstein, with a combination of ginger ale, pineapple juice, tequila, blue Curaçao, lemon, lime, and orange slices.
In addition to food and drink, the restaurant’s décor really enhances the dining experience. Desner hired a theme design company from South Carolina to handle the decorating, but he also included some animatronics that he owns. The interior puts out a fun, ghoulish vibe complimented by statues and wall art of friendly or fiendish creatures or designs.
What Is It Like At The Haunted House Of Hamburgers?
Haunted House of Hamburgers’ Instagram account provides pictures showing what the restaurant looks like on the inside and outside. On the semi-dim interior, get the feel of a haunted house, with murals depicting angry-looking trees with bright orange eyes and mouths.
Amid booth seating, the facing walls are painted with massive cobwebs or fiery cauldrons. The Vampire Bar has a portrait of Dracula behind it and is stocked with matching theme cocktail glasses.
"People love hamburgers. People love Halloween."
The exterior of the restaurant also has some themed fixtures. According to this Instagram picture , a replica of Friday the 13th’ s Camp Crystal Lake is surrounded by some sinister-looking characters such as a wolf man, a Jack O’Lantern headed individual, and the famous Jason Voorhees.
Another Instagram photo shows that diners can walk through a graveyard with a graveled pathway going along a corn maze-looking route aligned with fake tombstones and displayed scarecrows and scary and not-so-scary figures.
But potential customers shouldn’t let this all scare them away from coming to dine at the Haunted House of Hamburgers. It’s all part of the fun. As for attire, dressing up in a costume is encouraged but not required.
Haunted House of Hamburgers is a Busy Spot!
While the Haunted House of Hamburgers is open daily, it can get very busy quickly, and space can sell out at night. It’s been reported that the restaurant’s phone line is also quite busy, so it’s better to come to the restaurant as early as you can.
- The Haunted House of Hamburgers is located at 330 Fulton St. in Farmingdale, New York.
According to the restaurant’s Instagram and Facebook pages, walk-ins can be accommodated currently from Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Follow these accounts for schedule updates or changes; current business hours are listed on their website as well.

Stan Hsue and Allison Corn, who run Lion US, told Deadline the show will tackle this controversy head on. Without giving much away, they said it will uncover new horrors.
“The film shines a light on a world that for too long has been allowed to exist in the dark and it’s in that darkness that bad actors are able to do their worst,” Corn told Deadline. “We think viewers will find it eye opening and truly unforgettable.”
Sensitivity was a major priority for Lion during production and Hsue said the team wanted to “make sure we investigated and learned people’s stories in a way that did not add to their trauma.” Contributors include a human rights lawyer who specializes in the subject of torture and has worked on cases at Guantanamo Bay.
The show’s inception goes back to Hsue and Corn coming across the manor on YouTube and being amazed by “disturbing and upsetting” footage.
“So we dug in and found that the story is so much more than its shock value,” added Hsue. “There is an extremely rich psychological layer that explores why people subject themselves to extreme activities and the topic raises fascinating questions about the limits and complexity of consent.”
Matthew Shepard

With that in mind, Lion is also making an ID show about Matthew Shepard, a gay student who was beaten, tortured and left to die in the late 1990s, which will feature contributors including Rosie O’Donnell and Adam Lambert.
The case attracted significant media coverage at the time as Shepard’s sexuality appeared to have been a factor and Hsue said Lion’s show comes as “hateful rhetoric skyrockets.” “It feels exactly the right moment to honor Matthew’s life and legacy, as well as introduce his story to a new generation who might not be familiar.”
Elsewhere, Lion has been producing Bravo’s Cash Cab for most of the past two decades and the format is still going strong. Alongside the premium and true crime shows, Hsue and Corn are keeping Lion’s format game alive by taking a number to market including an “arced relationships” project inspired by rom-coms and two social experiment competition series.
The past couple of years have been “extraordinarily challenging” for indies, Hsue added, and he backed up other big names from the unscripted sector by saying that the dual labor strikes have not led to a boon in the genre, unlike in 2007-08.
“Now is a time of change and instability so [commissioners] are being extraordinarily conservative,” he added. “I don’t believe the strikes have changed that.”

In 2003 Dan Hopkins made an attempt to revive the once thriving Seven Oaks chicken farm. He believed the answer to success was to order some rare genetically altered roosters from Katmandu. All was well until these roosters experienced tremendous growth. The 20,000 chickens started disappearing daily with no signs of FOWL play as if they never existed. As the hens vanished the roosters grew. Dan was sure these mutant roosters were to blame so he launched a massive attack to annihilate these super roosters. He immediately was mauled by overgrown yellow feathered ninjas ripping all of his hair and teeth out. When released from the hospital he returned to Seven Oaks only to find less than 5000 chickens. He now declared war mounting assaults using machetes, knives, guns, poison, attack dogs and night vision weapons to no avail. All this done was to piss them off!!! His antics earned him the Name of “CHICKEN DAN” from the local Hollis residents. Soon Chicken Dan had no chickens only these damn six foot tall mutant BIG BIRDS. One final attack was launched to rid these evil creatures but the outcome was grim. With beaks and spurs they ripped Chicken Dan to shreds. Some wounds were so deep they actually tore out part of his voice box! After a year of recovery Chicken Dan returned to the chicken houses only to find them totally empty. Finally he was rid of this resident evil or so he thought. In the fall of the year they returned and his battle resumed only now he had an army of 800 helping him exterminate these vicious killers. The birds survived!!! Now every fall they come back and Chicken Dan’s militants wage all-out war on them in the chicken house on wagons in the field and on foot searching the woods. Last year over 13,000 brave individuals joined the search and attacks but the birds survived. This year more help is needed come to the Haunted Chicken House. CHICKEN DAN WANTS YOU!
