Why Ghost & Tommy Won’t Be In Raising Kanan
The prequel series centers around their Power mentor Kanan Stark.

Don’t expect to see Tommy Eagan and Ghost (aka James St. Patrick) in Power Book III: Raising Kanan . Though the post-credits scene of Power’ s series finale gave fans a glimpse at younger versions of the characters, the prequel series is set in 1991 and chronicles the early years of Kanan Stark, who didn’t meet Tommy and Ghost until he was about 19. (The show opens when he’s 15.)
“We’re not going to explore [Tommy and Ghost] as teens,” Power creator Courtney Kemp said during a Deadline panel for Raising Kanan in 2020, though she added that they could make appearances in later seasons of the show. (And yes, there will be more seasons: Starz renewed Raising Kanan for a second season before it even premiered.)
Mekai Curtis, who plays the teen version of Kanan , echoed that statement, noting that his character didn’t begin mentoring the slightly younger Ghost and Tommy in the drug business until the mid-’90s. “It’s going to be a couple of years,” Curtis told Entertainment Weekly in May. “That’s kind of how their storyline unfolded anyway. It was a couple years that Kanan was in the game and understood his world before he even ran into Tommy and Ghost.”
Regardless of whether Tommy and Ghost ever appear on the show, fans will at least see more of Tommy soon. Though Starz has yet to announce a release date, Power Book IV: Force , which centers on Joseph Sikora as Tommy, is reportedly scheduled to drop in 2021. And there will be other familiar characters from the Power universe in Raising Kanan . Hailey Kilgore plays a younger version of Anika Noni Rose’s Power character Jukebox, while 50 Cent — who played Kanan on Power before he died in Season 5 — narrates the series. It remains to be seen if he or any other original characters will appear on camera. “I would love to see all different versions of that, to be honest with you,” Kemp told Deadline. “But I want to make sure that Raising Kanan itself has an opportunity to be its own series and not make that compete with [ Power Book II: Ghost ].”
In addition to Curtis and Kilgore, the Raising Kanan cast includes Patina Miller (Raquel “Raq” Thomas), Omar Epps (Malcolm Howard), London Brown (Marvin Thomas), Malcolm Mays (Louis “Lou-Lou” Thomas), Toby Sandeman (Symphony Bosket), Shanley Caswell (Shannon Burke), Lovie Simone (Davina Harrison), Quincy Brown (Crown Camacho), and Joey Badass (Unique).

Prepare for Kanan's rise to Power .
After Sunday's season 1 penultimate episode of Power Book II: Ghost , Starz revealed the first look at Power Book III: Raising Kanan , the next installment in the Power Universe.
Set in the '90s, the prequel series tracks the early years of 50 Cent 's memorable Power character Kanan, who died after being set up by Ghost (Omari Hardwick), Tasha (Naturi Naughton), and Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.).
"You already know how my shit ended — this is how it started," the Power star and executive producer says in the Raising Kanan teaser. "This is my story."
Mekai Curtis stars as young Kanan in the new series, joined by an ensemble cast that includes Omar Epps ( House ), London Brown ( Ballers ), and Joey Bada$$ ( Mr. Robot ).
"We are patterning it after Marvel, where different characters come in and out of other people's shows," Power creator Courtney Kemp previously told EW of her world-building plan. "So there's crossovers and some of your favorite characters will come back, even if they don't get their own spin-off, they will show up in places. We're trying to really do it for the fans, to give the most of what they want."
The season 1 finale of Power Book II: Ghost airs next Sunday, while Raising Kanan debuts this summer on Starz.

50 Cent Reveals When “Raising Kanan” Will Introduce Tommy, Tasha, & Ghost
Hopefully we’ll see the crew soon.

Ghost is dead, Tasha is locked up, Tommy is on the run, and Kanan is dead as well. However, their stories will continue. 50 Cent is building out his Power-verse on Starz, first capturing audiences with Power Book II: Ghost. Now, Power Book III: Raising Kanan is expanding things even more. For those who haven't watched the first episode, mild spoilers are ahead.
Fans were not introduced to a young Tommy, Ghost, or Tasha in Raising Kanan 's first episode. That left many questioning as to when they would appear. The season finale of Power had a preview that showed all of them together in the 90s, however, the other power players were nowhere to be seen. Speaking with Digital Spy, 50 Cent revealed when fans can expect to see the OG crew reunite.
"I can't tell you exactly when," 50 explained. "But they're in Kanan's life before he went to jail. And you know potentially Tasha is already around, because when we see that Ghost forgives Kanan for his actions and they go back to working with each other but Tasha still has…" at that point Fif was cut off by Raising Kanan star Mekai Curtis.
"Tasha was at the heart of so much shit that went wrong in the first season of the first Power bro' and I'll stick by that bro', I will stick by that," Curtis added. "She's an important component and piece," Fif concluded, promising that we will meet the crew. Raising Kanan has already been greenlit for a second season.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan season 3: Meet Breeze?
Power Book III: Raising Kanan March 15, 2023

In a new post on Instagram , showrunner Sascha Penn stoked the discussion along by posting the image of a jet, one that had “Breeze” written clearly on the side. If this doesn’t get you excited about the next chapter of the series, what will?
For those who need a quick refresher on the Breeze character, he was a mentor for Kanan years before the original show, and he ends up also working with a young Ghost and Tommy, as well. Ghost is eventually the one who kills him, and it is this murder that is reflected in what Tariq eventually does to Ghost. Kanan meeting Breeze is of course a precursor to Ghost and Tommy coming into the Raising Kanan world, which we still don’t think Penn and the producers are going to rush to do. Just remember that Kanan is several years older than Ghost or Tommy, which means that they’d still be a little too young to have a big role in the present.
Hopefully, Penny’s Instagram tease means that Breeze is coming at some point in season 3, and we can start to go down this road that is so formative to the entire Power universe. It is so fascinating that one of the most important characters within Kanan’s entire life, and a focal point to the origins of Ghost and Tommy both, has been off-screen for all of this time. We hope there’s a fantastic actor for this part and we get to explore what makes him fascinating.
Now, let’s just cross our fingers and hope that we get season 3 in either the summer or fall; we’re more excited than ever now!

Power Book III: Raising Kanan's 50 Cent discusses possible Ghost and Tommy appearances in the future
"It would be fun to explore how James became Ghost and where he and Tommy started."

The prequel series, which wrapped up its first season over the weekend, follows the younger days of Jackson's titular character from the main series.
While we know that Kanan goes on to mentor Ghost and Tommy, the star has hinted that we may see the pair's younger incarnations by the third season of Raising Kanan – and Breeze even sooner.

" Power Book III could become as successful as Power itself," Jackson predicted to TVLine . "It's up to the writers and the showrunner, but viewers should expect to meet Breeze by Season 2."
Of course, fans will know that Breeze gave James St Patrick the name Ghost, with he and Kanan turning James and Tommy into killers… before Ghost took down Breeze and double-crossed Kanan.
"It would be fun to explore how James became Ghost and where he and Tommy started," Jackson added.
"Fans who love Power should get to know Breeze first and find out how he and Kanan became acquainted, and also what ends up happening to Raq and their whole family by the time Kanan becomes a boss."

"The family's in an entirely new space and different dynamic now, so it's them navigating that and figuring out where they can step, where they can't step," he said.
"It's a lot of complicated things going on. It's wild."

Warning: This post contains spoilers from the Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 1 finale.
Power Book III fans who caught the Starz drama’s Season 1 finale now know Kanan can’t trust anyone — not even his own mother Raq.
It’s a level of distrust and forced independence that clears the way for the titular character to strike out on his own sooner than expected after nearly killing Det. Howard. While it’s unlikely that Kanan’s protégés Ghost and Tommy would make an appearance in Season 2 because they’re so young (unless there is a major time jump), future seasons could easily introduce the two into Kanan’s world. It’s a move that could happen as early as the third season, says executive producer Curtis “ 50 Cent ” Jackson, who costarred as Kanan in the original Power.
“ Power Book III could become as successful as Power itself,” Jackson ambitiously tells TVLine. “It’s up to the writers and the showrunner, but viewers should expect to meet Breeze by Season 2. He was Kanan’s partner and boss and more aggressive than anyone could hang with or handle. Breeze became Ghost and Tommy’s boss, and Ghost ended up killing Breeze before viewers got to meet him.”

Showing that transition would be entertaining to explore, Jackson says, despite Power creator Courtney Kemp’s staunch declaration that Ghost and Tommy don’t belong in the sequel series, which is set in New York’s Jamaica, Queens in the early 1990s. Introducing Breeze would also show that Raq and her brothers weren’t the only ones who raised Kanan.
“It would be fun to explore how James became Ghost and where he and Tommy started,” Jackson concludes. “Fans who love Power should get to know Breeze first and find out how he and Kanan became acquainted and also what ends up happening to Raq and their whole family by the time Kanan becomes a boss.”

He confirmed: “Not before the end of this season, but there’s a possibility to bring in young Ghost, young Tommy and Breeze.”
Season two is expected to air late next year, so casting could already be underway for a young James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick (originally played by Omari Hardwick).
There’s also a chance for the character first portrayed by Joseph Sikora, Tommy Egan, to appear after Ghost’s partner returns for his own spin-off series, Force.
Plus, although Breeze never physically appeared in the original six seasons of Power, the drug lord nevertheless made an undeniable impact on the events of the series.

Ghost had already killed Breeze well before the main events of the Starz drama.
The rival kingpin was taken out in his own apartment at some point in the mid-to-late 90s, so fans have been expecting him to make an appearance ever since the spin-off was announced.

How To Watch Power & All Power Book Spinoffs In Order
Posted: October 21, 2023 | Last updated: October 21, 2023
- The Power franchise includes the original show, Power, and three spinoff series: Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force.
- The release order of the shows is as follows: Power (2014-2020), Power Book II: Ghost (2020-present), Power Book III: Raising Kanan (2021-present), Power Book IV: Force (2022-present).
- The chronological order to watch the shows is: Power Book III: Raising Kanan, all seasons of Power, Power Book II: Ghost season 1, Power Book IV: Force season 1, Power Book II: Ghost season 2, Power Book IV: Force season 2, Power Book II: Ghost season 3.
- The order may change as new seasons are released.
Courtney A. Kemp (in collaboration with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) created Power , which debuted on June 7, 2014, and quickly became one of Starz's most successful television shows. The 2014 crime drama series ran for six seasons before ending in 2020, and by then, the cable network was not ready to let go of one of its most popular shows. As a result, Starz ordered a spinoff — Power Book II: Ghost — and two other series tied to the original show soon premiered on the network, as well. Since four television series exist in the Power universe (and not all of them are sequels to the first show), the order in which to watch them can be a little bit confusing.
Power centers around James "Ghost" St. Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick), a drug dealer who wishes to leave the world of crime and pursue his dream of owning a nightclub. However, Ghost ends up having to balance both careers while navigating his personal struggles and the morality of his actions. Meanwhile, Power Book II: Ghost continues the first show's story by focusing on Ghost's son, Tariq St. Patrick, Power Book III: Raising Kanan serves as a prequel set in the 1990s and revolves around Ghost's rival, Kanan Stark, and Power Book IV: Force tells the story of Ghost's partner and friend, Tommy Egan.
Power & Power Book Spinoffs In Release Order
The entirety of the first television show in the popular Starz franchise aired before any of its spinoffs. However, the three sequel series are currently airing simultaneously, making the order in which to watch them a bit confusing. Going strictly by release date, though, makes it a little easier. Power premiered first in 2014 and kickstarted the highly rated and critically acclaimed television franchise. Then, the three spinoffs debuted in the early 2020s. The four shows' release order is:
- Power (June 7, 2014 - February 9, 2020)
- Power Book II: Ghost (September 6, 2020 - present)
- Power Book III: Raising Kanan (July 18, 2021 - present)
- Power Book IV: Force (February 6, 2022 - present)
Power & Power Book Spinoffs In Chronological Order
Whereas the release order of Power and the Power Book spinoffs is a bit more straightforward, the chronological order in which to watch all four shows is a bit more complicated, especially since the three sequel series are currently airing. The simplest aspect of the chronological order is that the entirety of Power Book III: Raising Kanan (whenever it concludes) should be watched first since it is a prequel. All six seasons of Power come next, which is easy again because the series ended on February 9, 2020. Unfortunately, the order in which to watch the final two shows gets convoluted since they are taking place concurrently. But the best chronological technique is:
- All seasons of Power Book III: Raising Kanan
- All seasons of Power
- Power Book II: Ghost season 1
- Power Book IV: Force season 1
- Power Book II: Ghost season 2
- Power Book IV: Force season 2
- Power Book II: Ghost season 3
Since Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force have not ended yet ( Power Book II: Ghost season 4 is coming soon, and Starz has not confirmed Power Book IV: Force season 3 as of the writing of this article), the chronological order might change. However, the best way to think about it is that a season of Book II should come first, followed by the next season of Book IV .

The Best Order To Watch Power & All Power Book Spinoffs
The way in which fans watch Power , Power Book II: Ghost , Power Book III: Raising Kanan , and Power Book IV: Force is up to the viewer. Since there are a couple of different ways to watch all four Starz television shows, there is no wrong way to view them (unless a fan watches Power Book II: Ghost before Power , Power Book IV: Force before Power Book II: Ghost , and so on). The best (and only) two options to consume the crime drama series are in either release or chronological order, as laid out above.
Since the franchise is ongoing, it might be best to watch the four Starz television shows in release order. Once the spinoffs come to an end, fans should watch them in chronological order to get the full story of the universe that Courtney A. Kemp created. But only time will tell when Starz decides to end the Power franchise.
