INTRODUCTION
So far, we have seen 8 nautical vehicles in Lego Technic. This year, we got two more! First one is 42074 Racing Yacht, and the second one is 42076 Hovercraft . From Wikipedia:
Quote A sailboat or sailing boat is a boat propelled partly or entirely by sails smaller than a sailing ship.
Ok, now, lets quickly cover the main sections of the typical small sailboat.
Picture borrowed from: http://www.frugal-mariner.com
As we can see, our 42074: Racing Yacht has most of the parts in place. It has Main sail, Headsail or Jib, Mast and Boom, Rudder and even Shrouds printed on a sails. Two things are off: it does not have a keel, and it seems its rudder is above water level. I guess both of these compromises were necessary to achieve better usability of the set, i.e. rolling it on a floor.
Note: All images can be clicked for hi-res versions.
SET INFORMATION
Number: 42074 Title: Racing Yacht Theme: Technic Released: 2018 Part Count: 330 Box Weight: 592 gr Box Dimensions: 26 cm x 28 cm x 5,5 cm Set Price (MSRP): € 29,99 Price per Part: € 0,05 Links: Brickset , Bricklink
THE BOX The box shows our Racing Yacht sailing on the water near a city. It also seems it is ahead of two other smaller boats. The box is taller than wide. The weight of the box is approximately 325 grams.
FRONT SIDE The box states that this model is for the age of 8 till 14. More importantly, the 2-models in-1 logo is clearly visible, which means this set can be used to build two different models. A model is a sailboat, while the B model is a catamaran. We can also see a note stating: "Model does not float. Not for use in water".
BACKSIDE The backside shows the sailboat and alternative model - catamaran, and their functions. More on that later.
One of the sides shows picture of the steering wheel in actual size.
CONTENT OF THE BOX
The box contains:
INSTRUCTION BOOKLET A-MODEL The instruction booklet for the main model.
INSTRUCTION BOOKLET B-MODEL Noteworthy is the inclusion of an additional booklet for the B-model.
EXAMPLE OF RANDOM INSTRUCTION STEP
STICKER SHEET One look at the sticker sheets and it's obvious these stickers will give the model its final and slick shape.
BAGS Four bags containing all the parts for the model. The only unbagged part in this set is a sail and jib combo.
HIGHLIGHTED PARTS This section describes the new or highlighted parts.
Plastic Sails (sheet of two) with Waves and Technic Gears Pattern. The Sail and Jib combo is exclusive for this set.
Our boat consists of 330 parts. Here's the complete part list.
The build is pretty straightforward, and interesting. From very early on, you will get to install first of the two functions. The picture below shows the model halfway of the build. You can see the steering mechanism and sliding steering wheel. Sliding road wheels are also installed.
Here we can see a sail handling mechanism. Its function is to slide the main boom and main sail to one of the sides. It can be operated from both sides of the boat.
Both mechanism installed onto the hull
Panels installed, she is almost seaworthy.
The finished model looks quite good. Of course, much of the visual identity comes from the colorful sails, and complimenting stickers.
The rear of the vehicle looks okay too. One can criticize that it looks unfinished. or overexposed. And it does.
Overall shape of the hull is nice, it does resemble a boat hull, with exception from the front part (Bow), which looks a bit off. Of course, achieving such a complex shape using only panels and liftarms is very hard. We can not expect something in a line of big brick-built ship MOCs.
Profile view.
The next picture shows the underside of the boat. As you can see, everything here is centered around road wheels. This set is clearly meant to be pushed on the floor. Also, it can't stand fully upright very easily.
FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS
This model has the following features:
Here you can see how it works.
Functions for the B model are the same:
Besides the somewhat unfinished feel of the back section, there are no real downsides to this model. I like the looks and color scheme. It also it contains various unique parts. It even features a interesting sail handling mechanism and working steering wheel to operate the rudder. The set comes with printed instructions for the B-model, so it's basically a real 2-in-1 set.
For around 30 euros you really can't go wrong with this set. Given the price, this also makes for a perfect gift for a boat lover!
How do I grade her.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.

Nice Review. Thanks. Looks a neat set especially if your interested in boats.
First off, thanks for yet another quality, review, I much prefer this type of proper review, although I seem to be in a quickly dwindling minority. They are getting harder to find and I appreciate the time you spent making it.
A lot of people don't seem to like that rudder above the water line. To me it just represents a portion of the rudder, the rest obviously below the water line same as the keel. Sure they could have including both, probably at the expense of any sort of play feature, making a great display set.
Personally I like this set and catch myself playing with it every now and then, when I dust my Lego display off.
It's one of those sets I want to buy a second one for the good parts, although I have no use for the sails.

Fully agree. I wish they included the keel and rudder part that goes bellow the water line (in a way that we could put it as a option, if and when we want). That way we could have both playability and nice realistically looking/display model, at the expense of few more (larger) parts/panels.
Great review. If I got this it would only be for parts, maybe a good base for a C model.

With 2,891 pieces, the design includes a six-cylinder in-line piston engine, a functioning steering wheel, an opening tailgate and more..
After delivering a buildable McLaren P1 earlier this week, LEGO Technic is back with an all-new entry in its Ultimate Car Concept Series—the brand’s sub-label dedicated to remastering the world’s best sports cars as 1:8 collectibles. Celebrating the vehicle’s 45th anniversary, LEGO has recreated the Mercedes-Benz G 500 PROFESSIONAL Line model car with 2,891 pieces.
Measuring 8.5 inches high, 16.5 inches long and eight inches wide, the design features a six-cylinder in-line piston engine under the car’s hood, as well as a gearbox with drive, neutral and reverse settings.
World's no. 1 source for lego news, reviews, and fan creations., lego technic 42173 koenigsegg jesko absolut grey hypercar [review].
LEGO loves fast cars! The Speed Champions and Technic lines are both pounding them out at record speeds. And with the summer wave of Technic sets, we add a few more to the growing list. Join us as we take a closer look at the latest in the series, LEGO Technic 42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar . This 801-piece model will be available August 1st and retail for US $49.99 | CAN $64.99 | UK £46.99 .
The LEGO Group sent The Brothers Brick a copy of this set for review. Providing TBB with products for review guarantees neither coverage nor positive reviews.
The thumb-punch box is on the small to medium side. The front features the typical forward-facing shot of the vehicle, while the back shows the opposite end with the doors open. Under that are inset images of play features and the real car.
Inside the box are seven polybags numbered 1-7.
The instruction manual is standard fare from the outside, however a slight difference inside is that there are two special pages at the back of the booklet instead of the front.
Of course, this set also comes with a pretty standard sticker sheet.
Bag one has us assemble the base of the vehicle, which includes the lower part of the steering mechanism. There’s also a gear rack that will come into play later with the doors.
From there we quickly transition into building the V-8 engine. I’m in love with this new piston style that we’ve seen in recently released sets. If you’re not already aware, LEGO has produced a couple new molds – a yellow fork pin and a light bluish grey offset cam – to achieve the appropriately sized engine for vehicles at this scale.
The forks clip onto the cams but are allowed to slide freely along their rim. When corralled by liftarms, they are able to “pump” as pistons should.
With that complete, we add it to the car, along with the back differential that drives the pistons. We also tack on some attachment points and more of the door mechanism.
The doors utilize a fun technique to achieve the “dihedral synchro-helix” opening. That gear rack previously mentioned guides 12-tooth double-bevel gears connected to perpendicular single-bevel gears. This creates a mechanism that turns 90 degrees while moving outward.
Next we add the seats and the front fender. We also use new black 3×13 Technic frames to sturdy up and give more attachment points to the sides.
Liftarms, panels and newer slopes begin to give the exterior of the car some shape.
A hood is made to cover the engine, and makes excellent use of Bionicle wings for the back fins. That hood is hinged and lifts so that you can see the engine inside. It’s a great feature, although it doesn’t always want to stay open under it’s own power. In the same bag are also pieces to begin work on the front hood.
We’re nearing the finish line as we build those nifty doors and add them to the body. Once again you can see in the GIF below how that mechanism works. It’s a very clever way to replicate the real thing and avoid pinching/binding. An additional advantage to this system is that the doors feel comfortable and solid both open and closed, rather than flopping around.
Once finished, the car looks pretty slick. If you were to compare this set with the real deal, you’d find lots of things that don’t align. Scroll back to the side-by-side picture from the instructions and you’ll notice some glaring differences that aren’t as easy to describe without a visual. However, if you’re not paying attention to the details of what car it is, you’ll find that it’s simply a cool LEGO car.
It also has a lot of play features packed into a small space. Just look at the size of it compared to my hands in the GIFs above. Everything opens and moves, offering hours of play.
While I may be the resident “Technic enthusiast” here at TBB, the span of vehicles LEGO produces far outreaches my knowledge and fandom. Admittedly, I had never heard of a Koenigsegg Jesko Hypercar before this review. I’m sure there will be racing fans that are not amused by the differences between this and the real thing, however on the basis of being a really fun LEGO car to build (and a 10+ age-range set), it’s a winner for me. The vehicle packs a punch in the play feature department, and I like the techniques in general. It may seem small, but the price is within reason. With those things in mind, I’d recommend the kit to anyone who is considering it.
I do have a bit of a twist to throw at you, however! Don’t ask me why, but apparently LEGO couldn’t make a decision so they decided to produce this set in BOTH grey and white. While I reviewed the grey version, you can pick up the white one for the same price, and they’re identical other than livery. Now you just have to decide which, or maybe even both! Got twins? These are the sets for you!
LEGO Technic 42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar will be available August 1st and retail for US $49.99 | CAN $64.99 | UK £46.99 . You may also be able to find it from other retailers on Amazon and eBay . If grey is not your thing and you rather have white, you’ll be able to find it for the same price by following the same links above and using the set number 42184.
