ISA Yachts GT 80 Project Future Megayacht

The newcomer was sold to a repeat client in July, just over a month after the presentation of the new GT range. The owner, who has enjoyed the 217-foot ISA superyacht Okto for almost a decade, was seeking a fresh, innovative megayacht for the years to come. Enter Future.

“The owner has always relied on Palumbo Superyachts for the maintenance of his superyacht,” Giuseppe Palumbo, CEO of Palumbo, said in a statement . “This allowed us to create a project tailored to his needs by formulating a new model with high-performance lines that winks at the near future.”

The yacht was once again penned by Enrico Gobbi of Team for Design and will feature naval architect by Palumbo’s in-house team. Billed as a “sporty coupé,” the 262-footer is replete with long, curved lines that create a sleek silhouette. The steel gray hull is adorned with charcoal details that further accentuate its shape. The superstructure is also set back further toward the aft than other Gran Turismo yachts to emphasize the distinctive ISA arch.

Stepping onboard, the main deck is home to four double cabins and a VIP with a lounge, while the lower deck sports a VIP cabin with twin beds and 10 crew cabins that can collectively seep 18. Occupying pride of place on the upper deck, the spacious and secluded owner’s suite is described as a “true glasshouse.” It is equipped with giant floor-to-ceiling windows, two bathrooms, a vanity area, two wardrobes, and an office. Gobbi will also take care of the interior design.

Project Future is expected to hit the seas in 2027. Stay tuned.

Project Sparta: The Megayacht Of The Future

The private yacht that offers everything.

The perfect marriage of bespoke luxury and ultra-efficient machinery, Project Sparta is the megayacht of the future. At 67-meters in length, her clever design asks for no compromises in either comfort or utility. Once finished, she will be the largest steel displacement motor yacht Heesen has ever built. The Dutch shipyard has announced that the construction of the superyacht began in Oct 2020 and is expected to be completed in 2023.

Constantly pushing the boundaries of yacht crafting, Heesen has collaborated with Arcon Yachts of Monaco and Winch Designs to bring the floating masterpiece to life. Arcon Yachts serves as the Owner’s technical advisors and project managers of the full-custom yacht’s construction. Andrew Winch’s interior and exterior design ingenuity has maximized every inch of the vessel’s space while still maintaining an elevated look. Project Sparta features Winch’s signature sleek lines and ultra-modern yet classic touches.

More than just her looks, Project Sparta utilizes Perry van Oossanen’s patented fast displacement hull form (FDHF) to guarantee a hyper-efficient yet smooth and comfortable journey. She has an internal volume of approximately 1,200 gross tons, and her elegant engine room houses two MTU 12V4000 M65R diesel engines. The mega-yacht will reach a top speed of 16 knots and cut through the seas with a transatlantic cruising range of 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her crew will operate her from a raised pilothouse, lending itself to a more streamlined and sporty profile.

THE PRIVATE YACHT THAT OFFERS EVERYTHING

Project Sparta comfortably hosts 12 guests, two staff members, and 14 crew members. The bridge deck is reserved for the Owner and is composed of two suites and a private outdoor lounge. The main deck houses four guest suites. Winch Designs has shown off his utilitarian side by incorporating a sliding partition that seamlessly transforms two of the front-facing suites into a full beam VIP suite–a feature unusual for a vessel of its size. There is no wasted space and no compromises in comfort found on this go-anywhere-sized vessel. Winch Designs has rightfully deemed Project Sparta a “pocket mega-yacht.”

The stepped aft deck houses a 6.5-meter Infinity pool, and the top sundeck features a bar and jacuzzi. An offset spiral staircase wraps around a glass elevator that connects all three decks. The lower deck is home to crew quarters and a wellness sanctuary that includes an oval jacuzzi, sauna, gym, and steam room.

PROJECT SPARTA EMBARKS ON THE ULTIMATE MAIDEN VOYAGE

Project Sparta’s maneuverability means nearly unlimited opportunities to discover the world’s most exotic and far-flung destinations. Her 2023 maiden voyage will include stops at shipyards in the following most desirable destinations:

1.) THE MEDITERRANEAN

The Mediterranean’s gorgeous coastlines will perfectly complement the yacht’s sleek and super sporty profile. Optimal mooring opportunities abound in this premier yachting destination, with possible dockings along the Amalfi Coast or perhaps a long tour through Northern Sardinia for breathtaking views and some of the  best cuisine  Italy has to offer.

2.)  FJORDS OF NORWAY AND THE LOFOTEN ISLES

Project Sparta was destined to navigate Norway’s vast network of waterways. Her compact size and hyper-efficient machinery will allow her to move deftly through the deep fjords, letting her get up close and personal with its magnificent glaciers. The landscape drenched with untamed mountains and wildlife will offer an abundance of activities for the owner, including fishing, mountaineering, kayaking, and canyoning.

3.) THE CARIBBEAN AND BAHAMAS

During the winter months, Project Sparta and her Owner will warm themselves along the sun-soaked coastlines of the Caribbean. Here, there will be plenty of opportunities to sunbathe on the yacht’s spacious decks, snorkel in the crystalline waters, and take in the warm breeze while entertaining friends and family at the top deck bar. Project Sparta will have no trouble maneuvering between the more than 700 islands the Bahamas has to offer–each with its distinct personality and offerings.

4.) AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

The Land Down Under’s vast coastline includes opportunities to explore the rugged island of Tasmania, visit the idyllic Whitsunday archipelago, and of course, scuba diving at the iconic Great Barrier Reef. New Zealand is almost ubiquitous with natural beauty, and no voyage would be complete without a visit to the idyllic paradise. Its rolling green highlands, spectacular waterfalls, and majestic glaciers will provide an abundance of outdoor activities for Project Sparta and her owner.

THE MEGAYACHT CHARTER OF THE FUTURE

Project Sparta is destined to influence the future design of mega-yacht charters. Its devotion to ultra-luxury design serves as the perfect template for the ultimate mega-yacht: a spacious and comfortable interior yet compact enough to navigate smaller passageways around the world. Those looking to charter yachts will want the option of being able to go anywhere without compromise.

The Largest Superyachts Launched So Far in 2023

By Frances Flannagan

In the lead up to the yacht show season, it is only fitting to take a look at the largest, most impressive launches of 2023 so far. From complex refits, to technically advanced, future-proof new builds, we take a look at the five largest launches of the year so far, according to Superyachts.com's Top 100 list of the largest yachts in the world.

145m - LUMINANCE

Builder: Lürssen

A highly anticipated project, LUMINANCE was launched in February this year; Lürssen’s eighth largest build and ranking as the 12th largest yacht in the world. Her details were kept tightly under wraps, contributing to her alluring nature, but it has been revealed that the exterior design is the work of Espen Øino , marking the thirtieth collaboration between the designer and shipyard. She is said to have an internal volume of 9,000 GT and a beam of 20 metres, whilst sporting a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

According to Superyachts.com's Top 100 list, LUMINANCE ranks at 12th largest yacht in the world.

114m - Project Cosmos

In March, Lürssen’s 114.2m Project Cosmos was technically launched. Otherwise known as Project 13759, this is the first time that she was seen. Like LUMINANCE, very little has been revealed about her details, aside from her having an interior volume of around 6300GT, a beam of 18m, and a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. Project Cosmos is the first Lürssen superyacht to feature new fuel cell technology, significantly reducing emissions by avoiding greenhouse gases.

From her technical launch, we can see that Project Cosmos has a large aft deck and swimming pool, as well as a cut-out that we can presume will house a tender. She is a highly impressive build, ranking as the 44th largest yacht in the world according to our Top 100 listings.

105m - 1050H

Builder: Oceanco

On the 10th of January 2023, one of the industry’s most closely-kept secrets was brought to light as Oceanco’s Project 1050H was launched. Neither a newbuild, refit, or conversion, this has been a fundamental rebuild of unprecedented scale, completely transforming a heritage superyacht.

Project 1050H is the first vessel that has been recreated to such an extent that no single element remains the same. This launch set the benchmark of future innovation in the industry: a future-proof vessel that is a testament to Oceanco’s desire to perfect even the most complex builds. She has a modern exterior aesthetic, with a completely new superstructure, with a fresh interior designed by Reymond Langton Design.

As well as being impressive aesthetically, her performance, technology and sustainable nature are all elements to be equally marvelled at. She is fully compliant with rigorous IMO Tier III standards alongside upgraded technological capabilities.

The launch of 1050H was certainly a celebrated start to 2023, whilst also ranking 63rd on our Top 100 list.

90m - Project 1601

Soon after LUMINANCE emerged from Lürssen’s Bremen facility, 90m Project 1601 was launched. Like LUMINANCE, her construction was kept very secretive, but her emergence  from the shipyard revealed a unique exterior profile, with prominent lines and a striking reverse bow design.

Espen Øeino is responsible for the exterior design, alongside the in-house team at Lürssen overseeing the naval architecture. Dölker & Voges Design have crafted the interior spaces, which are yet to be revealed.

84m - Project 710

Builder: Feadship

On the 20th April, Feadship’s 80m Project 710 was launched. She has earnt the honour of being one of Feadship’s most technically advanced and dynamic designs, so her launch sparked nothing but excitement.

As well as being aesthetically beautiful, with a low profile, horizontal styling features and clean shapes, she is also the perfect next step in Feadship’s path towards achieving the build of zero-emission superyachts by 2030, with an expected 90% reduction of total CO2 emissions. She is the perfect vessel for relaxation as well as entertaining, with an Aqua Lounge with massive windows below water level allowing for connection with the outdoors, as well as the ability to accommodate up to 14 people, making her just as sociable as she is stunning.

"It is a proud moment for me to see the nearing completion of this transformation, having personally been involved in returning 1050H to her birthplace for this ambitious project." Dr. Barwani, Chairman, Oceanco

At 158m, Lürssen's MY Blue takes this year's top spot for the largest superyacht launch

The biggest superyacht launches of 2022

Of the 350 new launches that splashed this year, we revisit the largest superyachts to join the world's fleet on the water in the past 12 months, starting with Lürssen's 158 metre Blue...

Builder: Lürssen Length: 158m

In addition to being named this year's most sizeable delivery, Blue now ranks as the fifth largest yacht in the world in terms of LOA. She joins 22 other yachts built by Lürssen to pass the 100 metre threshold, with the German shipyard also having developed Blue 's naval architecture. Terence Disdale designed both the interior and exterior which includes a helipad at either end of the vessel, a swimming platform connected to a beach club and room for 48 guests with an additional 80 crew. Blue is also one of the largest yachts to be equipped with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion and features an innovative wastewater treatment system.

Builder: Lürssen Length: 146.4m

While details remain sparse, Opera is believed to be the reincarnation of 145 metre Project Sassi, which had been destroyed in a 2018 shipyard fire at Lürssen's Bremen yard. The original hull is rumoured to have been recovered for the new build, although the aluminium superstructure needed to be scrapped. The yacht was launched in September of this year and has since been spotted out on sea trials in the North Sea. Terence Disdale is responsible for both the exterior and interior design, which can be seen to feature a pair of helipads on the foredeck and upper deck aft and two swimming pools. The yacht is currently one of eight 100m+ vessels in build at Lürssen.

Builder: Oceanco Length: 127m

Formerly Project Y721, the much anticipated Koru is reportedly being delivered to Jeff Bezos as the world's largest sailing yacht, stealing the top spot from the 109.5 metre Sea Cloud . And the record breaking vessel doesn't stop there. Koru is the longest yacht to have been built in the Netherlands and the largest ever by shipyard Oceanco, eclipsing its current flagship Black Pearl by more than 20 metres in length. Little else is known about the elusive project, including her design team and onboard amenities. However, the new yacht is expected to be delivered in 2023 and will be accompanied by a support vessel rumoured to be in build at Damen Yachting .

Feadship 1010

Builder: Feadship Length: 118.8m

Feadship 1010 became Feadship's longest launch to date in August 2022 and supersedes the 110 metre Anna which was delivered in 2018. The yacht's midnight blue exteriors are the work of Espen Øino while French studio Zuretti handled the interior, which still remains under wraps. Seen in action on sea trials earlier this year, the new flagship appears to house a swimming pool on the main deck and a large helipad equipped with a hangar on the upper deck. Feadship 1010 is expected to be delivered imminently.

Abeking 6507

Builder: Abeking & Rasmussen Length: 118.2m

One of the more recent launches, Abeking & Rasmussen's hull 6507 was rolled out of the sheds at the Lemwerder shipyard in December 2022. At 118 metres, the new build beats the yard's former flagship, the 98.4 metre Aviva , by nearly 20 metres in length. Both the exterior and interior designs were completed by French architect Joseph Dirand, whose previous work includes a 24 metre Otam, and features a large swimming pool on the aft deck, a helicopter pad and an underwater Neptune lounge shared by the shipyard's award-winning superyacht M'Brace (ex Elandess ). On delivery, the yacht will officially be the largest motor yacht ever to be built by the German shipyard, although she will eventually be dethroned by a secretive 120m+ project commissioned in 2021.

Oceanco Y720

Builder: Oceanco Length: 109m

The second Ocean to make this list, Oceanco Y720 has been designed inside and out by neighbouring Dutch studio Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design . The yacht is the first Oceanco to be constructed at the builder's new Zwijndrecht shipyard and features extensive glasswork along the three deckhouses on the main, bridge and upper decks. Meanwhile, Lateral Naval Architects completed the naval architecture and fitted the vessel with advanced propulsion systems that reportedly exceed current environmental regulations. Oceanco Y720 is expected for delivery soon and was last spotted out on sea trials in the North Sea in August.

Project Icecap

Builder: Lürssen Length: 107m

Details surrounding Project Icecap have been kept tightly under wraps since news broke that the yacht had been sold in 2018. From what has been gathered, the Lürssen project had her naval architecture developed in-house while her exterior styling was penned by Salt Ship Design. As her name suggests, she is thought to have been designed with high-latitude cruising in mind, with a helipad and reverse bow. Elsewhere, the vessel will reportedly feature a fold-out beach club, three fixed terraces built into the stacked forward superstructure and accommodate up to 20 guests in half as many cabins.

Builder: Golden Yachts Length: 88m

Delivered in August this year, Project X was aptly named for its defining triple-X design down the waist of the boat's superstructure, courtesy of exterior designer Ken Freivokh . Project X made its debut at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, where onlookers were able to view onboard features including a three-deck atrium connected by a circular glass elevator, an aft deck pool and a private office/conference room spanning the width of the vessel's 14.8 metre beam. She can accommodate up to 14 guests and is currently available for charter with Burgess from $1,100,000 per week. The yacht also features the naval architecture of Marco Yachts and interior design by Studio Massari .

Builder: SilverYachts Length: 85.3m

Built under the codename Project Globalfast, the explorer was started on speculation, sold to an owner in April, and now joins sistership BOLD as the second in a series of all-aluminium Silver World Explorers by SilverYachts. Like her sistership, her utilitarian exteriors are the work of Espen Øino International , defined by a band of darkened glass on the upper deck and an open aft deck for storing toys or a helicopter. Øino's "highly efficient" hull design allows Wanderlust to reach a top speed of 23 knots with a range of 5,800 nautical miles, allowing for longer trips at sea without the need to refuel in between. Other onboard features include accommodation for 16 guests and 23 crew and a hidden helicopter hangar that doubles as a gym or disco when not in use. Wanderlust is currently available for charter with Burgess from €896,000 per week.

Builder: Bilgin Length: 80m

The red-hulled Bilgin 263/02 is the second in a series of three to hit the water and follows on from sistership Tatiana , which was delivered in early 2021. The third and final 263 model was also sold and is scheduled for delivery in March 2023. Each of the vessels share the same slender profile created by Unique Yacht Design and interiors by British studio H2 Yacht Design . Bilgin 263/02 features a reduced number of accommodations than her predecessor, opting instead to provide additional space for fewer cabins. Accompanying the beach club pool are multiple Greek statues sitting on water outlets with integrated lighting, as well as fibre optic lights placed overhead to give the appearance of the night sky.

The relaunch of 105m mega yacht ‘H’ , also known as Project 1050H, is one of the most exciting and revolutionary yacht industry projects of recent times. Oceanco , the renowned Dutch shipyard, have reinforced their reputation for taking on ambitious and bold challenges on this unique passion project.

Beginning life in 2000, before the industry was so mindful of the environment impact of yacht building, this huge yacht was selected for a complete transformation. The owner’s vision demanded a rethink of the physical attributes but also compliance with the highest modern standards for technology and sustainability.

What Oceanco have delivered in ‘H’ is remarkable, reducing the construction timetable by at least a year, while still maintaining their luxury pedigree. This timesaving, in itself, reduced the environmental impact of the build and demonstrates the possibilities for future owners. Oceanco Marketing Director Paris Baloumis commented at the launch “It is our ambition that this landmark project will inspire owners of existing yachts to benefit … while adding value to their ownership experience as well as the planet.”

Now complete, ‘H’ also boasts a refreshed interior by Reymond Langton Design and a few especially exciting elements including an exclusive owners’ deck, guest accommodation for up to 32 in 16 cabins, elevator, on deck dance floor, full spa and beauty salon and last but not least a piano originally belonging to Elton John.

A 72-meter super yacht Project 2024 by Feadship

Project 2024, a 72.6-meter mega yacht built by Feadship, has been announced

Feadship , a Dutch yacht building company, has collaborated with Nauta Design to offer Project 2024 , a 72m high speed luxury yacht prototype. Project 2024, which was unveiled at an online media briefing, was designed in collaboration with Nauta and highlights marine architecture by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects . The idea was developed in response to a number of customer demands, according to the builder, and is tailored to clients who "have no expertise nor concern in the complicated technological aspects of a new construction."

Project 2024, on the other hand, provides a "incredible number of customised high product options." Many of the key technological components have already been developed, including the necessary engineering and marine design. Costumers would be able to save time on distribution and be free to "build their own personalized Feadship" as a result of this. As a consequence, the mega yacht will be delivered in time for the summer of 2024.

Project 2024 was influenced by plenty of innovative superyacht designs proposed by designers around the industry, according to chief product strategist Farouk Nefzi . “We've seen a lot of stunning futuristic concepts with cutting-edge technologies and fantastical dreams. But the primary issue is what is truly feasible now, and what kind of creativity can be implemented now.” The proposal has been "focused out to the greatest degree of precision," according to Feadship, and is "remarkably separate from just about any luxury yacht prototype model available today."

It was born out of a collaboration between Nauta and the builder on some other Feadship luxury yacht task and according to the company: “Their pleasant friendship encouraged them to imagine how their joint perfect Feadship could look for potential customers wanting to know about how to skip the early technological period of a new build implementation.” Nauta and Feadship spent a few months designing and developing a "unique concept that would incorporate all of their common experience" with Feadship De Voogt Naval Designers.

The 72m Project 2024 is the outcome, a completely Tier III compatible mega yacht with a steel hull and an aluminum upper body. Feadship ’s ceo Jan-Bart Verkuyl stated that the engineering team sought to integrate a variety of market-leading design developments into the concept. Resilience, future creativity and innovation and modern features are just a few of them. “We wanted to have a place where customers could invest extra time with family and friends,” the company says. The outcome is a 70-meter private yacht that incorporates all current construction trends. We know how important it is for people to be allowed to navigate from their yacht, so we have a tickle helipad on the stern, as well as plenty of windows and connections across the outside and inside.”

The main exterior elements contain wide screens, smaller size and "elegant" bulwarks, with a sea view and an inland and outside connection. The 564 square meter of cabin space can be fully customized to the customer's preferences and desires, with 12 guests sleeping in a wide master cabin, VIP cabin, and 8 extra rooms that can be configured as doubles or twins. The master cabin, which is located forward of the main deck, is defined as a "sanctuary of individual privacy and leisure," with pieces of clothing and coated surfaces that produce a "aura of clarity." The suite has his and hers standing cupboards, a lounge, and a personal balcony that results in higher deck's rooftop lobby and outdoor dining hall. A reach helipad has been designated instead of the upper deck, although this may be converted into extra seating if the buyer so wishes.

The above-mentioned sun deck is separated into three main areas. The forward area has a Hot tub that is arranged for tanning, while the center area has a seating area for 12 people that is protected by translucent windbreaker boards. Aft is a bar location. A huge food lift spans both floors, and an escalator will carry visitors around the yacht. Over on the ground floor, the aft section flows into the main saloon, which is separated into a bar and dining area with massive screens and panoramic views of the sea. There's also the luxury of adding flip terraces to the lounge, stretching it over the lake.

The beach club , which is located aft of the bottom section, is a highlight feature. The pool bar is extended by an additional 80 percent thanks to large square side wings. There is also a 3.3-meter pool and plenty of seating in the field. The rooftop bar has tight ties to the deck behind with curving steps – a layout element that allow families to take care on kids playing on the beach club. Verkuyl commented on the beach club idea, saying, "Lots of beach clubs are being built within boats, but we're really watching beach clubs expand and becoming more." It's an attractive room that connects you to the water surrounding you - a spot where you'd like to spend time with loved ones.” Project 2024 has room for 18 team members, along with a designated captain's quarters and eight extra rooms on the bottom section.

By Steph Loseby   6 August 2022

After her launch in April 2022, the highly-anticipated 88m (289ft) Golden Yachts vessel PROJECT X  has been delivered and is ready to depart from their Vouliagmeni yard in Greece and head to the West Mediterranean where she will begin her summer charter season.

Brand new for 2022, the yacht’s exterior design has been helmed by British design studio Ken Freivokh, boasting a striking curved raked bow and cascading decks culminating in a large beach club area to the aft. A further prominent feature is her triple ‘X’ paneling amidships that conceals a 3-deck atrium connected by a grand circular glass elevator.

Still officially known as her project name, the luxury motor yacht is set to make her debut appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

One of the most immediately recognizable new megayachts

Boasting an outstanding glass shaft design, very reminiscent of the luxury yacht MALTESE FALCON , the circular skylight brings natural light all the way from the sundeck through to all levels of the yacht.  Seamlessly integrating a fully-equipped air-conditioned gymnasium too, the large glass panels promise guests glorious Mediterranean views as they work out.

The majestic yacht is the second-largest yacht to be delivered from the Greek yard, following the celebrated launch of Golden Yachts 95m (311ft) mega yacht O’PAR I in 2020.

Placing a heavy emphasis on alfresco living, M/Y PROJECT X boasts 5 cascading decks that showcase a 7.5-meter by 3-meter glass-sided swimming pool on her aft main deck and an expansive beach club featuring a comfortable lounging area and bar, alongside a wellness suite with Hammam and Finnish Sauna.

Set to provide guests with a taste of the superyacht lifestyle, the yacht's interiors are the work of Massari Design, who have purportedly re-worked 150 different materials into the guest areas, including rare leathers, marble and wood. Filled with natural light, guests are welcomed to a relaxed, unique and luxurious ambiance on board.

Her vast 14.8-meter beam will effortlessly accommodate 12 guests across seven opulent cabins, comprising an Owner’s deck complete with a private terrace and Jacuzzi and a further VIP suite, both housed on her bridge deck.

Special on-board features include her impressive 6,000nm range, a lavish elevator for easy access between floors and her vast array of premium beauty and wellness amenities that will ensure a luxurious and comfortable yacht charter vacation.

Meet Project Cosmos: 1,000 mile range, emissions-free megayacht from Apple Watch designer

Avatar for Scooter Doll

German luxury boatbuilder Lürssen Yachts has shared video footage of it successfully launching a zero-emissions megayacht longer than two olympic swimming pools, suspected to be commissioned by a Japanese billionaire. The exterior of hydrogen powered megayacht, codenamed Project Cosmos, is being designed by Apple designer Marc Newson.

Lürssen Yachts is a legacy boatbuilder with German roots dating as far back at 1860. After initially starting out building racing rowboats, Lürssen constructed the world’s first motorboat in 1886. It has gone bigger and better in the century and a half since that milestone, gaining a reputation in the maritime industry for consistently pushing the limits of engineering and innovation within its unique vessels.

Lürssen first committed to using fuel cells way back in 2009 and has been operating a methanol-hydrogen fuel cell power plant since 2012. That technology is present in its current megayacht build, Project Cosmos – which just made its technical launch onto the waters of Germany.

It’s a work in progress that still has a couple years to go, but you can already get a scope of its size and unique design from the images below.

megayacht

This megayacht can operate for 15 days without emissions

Lürssen Yachts uploaded a new video to YouTube today sharing the successful technical launch of the Project Cosmos from its facility in Germany, just five days after officially unveiling the megyacht in a separate video.

This is the public’s first genuine glimpse of the vessel despite it entering year three of construction. As you can see from the images above, Project Cosmos is a massive 114.2. meter (~375 ft) megayacht featuring an explorer-style profile, meaning the vessel’s the superstructure has been positioned more forward to allow for a larger aft deck.

Other features spotted from the YouTube footage include a swimming pool and some sort of large cut-out, which could be used to stow a separate smaller (but still quite large) vessel (preferably electric, right?). Up top, you’ll notice what appears to be a 360-degree viewing area as well as a helipad on the bridge deck below.

According to  Boat International , the exterior of the megayacht is being designed by Australian designer Marc Newson, who helped form the look of the Apple Watch in 2015. On the maritime side, Newson also designed a 140-meter superyacht called Solaris for Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich.

The star of the show (at least to us), however, is the unique hydrogen powertrain Lürssen has implemented in the megayacht. Luxury Launches points out that rather than stow and tote massive liquid hydrogen tanks aboard, Project Cosmos will utilize readily available methanol which still carries plenty of hydrogen in its chemical makeup.

The waste result is still just water, offering a viable zero-emissions solution at sea that Lürssen hopes will influence future megayacht builds, especially since some of the traditional ultra-large vessels have larger carbon footprints that entire island nations.

Hydrogen power clearly offers a better solution, especially since Lürssen Yachts states the Project Cosmos’ green propulsion system enables its owner to anchor down for 15 nights without emissions. In terms of range at sea, the megayacht will be able to slow cruise for over 1,000 miles, again emissions-free.

The hydrogen powered megayacht is believed to be commissioned by Japanese billionaire entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa . Maezawa was seen onboard the vessel during the technical launch in the video below – the Japanese flag hung from the railing of the yacht is also a clear hint.

Lürssen Yachts is expected to complete delivery of the Project Cosmos megayacht in 2025. See more below:

Moscow's Urban Movement: Is There Hope for a Better Future?

megayachts project

  • Written by Mari Chichagova
  • Published on December 09, 2015

In 2010, following the election of a new mayor, the Moscow city government began to work towards a comfortable urban environment in which citizens would feel like residents rather than mere users of the city. The emphasis was on creating public spaces in which Muscovites could fulfill their potential and feel that the city was their home.

Gorky Park was at the forefront of the changes. During the 1990s, the "Central Park of Culture and Leisure" accumulated a collection of fairground rides and became a sort of amusement park popular principally among visitors from other cities; Muscovites hardly went there. Three years ago, the city government made it their mission to overturn the park's image and bring Moscow's residents back. A full-scale reconstruction and restoration began in spring 2011.

Today, Gorky Park is a new level of urban space – one centered around people and boasting a scrupulously conceived infrastructure. All of the changes were aimed at creating a comfortable environment for life - for strolling and sport, work and study, culture and leisure. Moreover, in a short time the park has developed an effective economic model whereby it receives one half of its budget from the city and generates the other half itself.

megayachts project

The regeneration of Gorky Park was followed by a flurry of changes. The city began to invest intensively in the development of other Moscow parks (by 2015, 240 new parks had been opened, 160 of which were in residential areas), in cycling mobility and infrastructure (by 2015, 241.7 kilometers of cycle track and around 10,000 bike parking spaces had been installed), and in street design and refurbishment (to date, 50 streets and squares have been repaired and 72 pedestrian zones created). Pedestrians are now the priority user group in the urban environment.

The work undertaken in 2015 has been more than impressive in its scale: sidewalks have been widened; 30,000 trees have been planted; 10,000 unauthorized advertising structures have been demolished; the facades of 943 buildings have been repaired, 178 hectares of lawn have been replanted, and 1.1 million square meters of flowerbed have been arranged and planted.

megayachts project

The redevelopment of Krymskaya embankment , completed in 2013, is one of the most successful projects to be implemented in recent years. In accordance with the design by Wowhaus Architecture Bureau , the embankment was completely pedestrianized. Cycle paths were demarcated and later became part of a single 8 kilometer cycle track along the Moskva River linking the Pushkinskaya, Andreevskaya, and Vorobyovskaya embankments. The historical identity of the area was also taken into account: artists have sold their work on the Krymskaya embankment since Soviet times; in light of the tradition, a covered wooden arcade was built to accommodate them. Nearby, a summer cinema and a lecture theater have sprung up. Meanwhile, plentiful benches were installed, along with an open fountain which has become a favorite spot for both locals and tourists.

Triumfalnaya square, which opened in its new guise in September 2015, is another successful urban project. As part of the reconstruction, vehicular access to the square was blocked, the street-level parking was removed, and the section of road from the Garden ring onto Tverskaya Street was closed off. The concept, by the architecture studio Buromoscow , was selected as part of a competition which attracted over forty entries. The design also included new trees, swings, and benches, as well as pavilions where residents and tourists might buy tea, coffee and a newspaper, or find out information about the city.

megayachts project

Despite the obvious positive dynamic - Moscow's gradual transition from a city of disconnected “islands” with a closed, unfriendly urban environment to a European style city where pedestrians are the priority user group - there remain a plethora of issues.

Yes, Moscow is continually holding round tables, forums, and discussions of its future urban development. Yes, it can now be said that the government has long-term planning objectives and a concept for how the city ought to look in three, five or ten years’ time.

megayachts project

And yet - despite the involvement of world class experts such as Jan Gehl , Renzo Piano , and Diller Sconfidio + Renfro , despite the numerous architectural competitions involving a jury, the expert community, and the citizens themselves - the quality and implementation of this city-scale project leaves much to be desired.

A good illustration of this is the Moscow government's ongoing program "My Street," which is intended to improve Moscow's public spaces. The project sets aside 100 billion roubles for the redevelopment of 4,000 streets by 2018. Nevertheless, the quality of the work carried out over the summer of 2015 (scheduled for completion in time for the Moscow City Day celebrations in early September) was far from ideal. After the hurried redevelopment works, it was hard not to notice the high, unwieldy curbs, the drains appearing unexpectedly in the middle of cycle-tracks, the tarmac laid on top of paving slabs, or the paving slabs laid on top of tarmac.

megayachts project

Often, an important date (such as the 2018 FIFA World Cup or City Day) is the best motivation for civil servants to get things done. But should it be that way?

There is a flip-side to chasing after statistics. Firstly, quality of execution suffers. Secondly, the choice of contractor and the professionalism of the people hired to supervise and implement the work leaves much to be desired.

The absence of professionals with the skills, experience and enthusiasm to finish a project to a high standard is becoming increasingly apparent. The contractors' main concern is currently to finish the work as fast as possible (usually to a low standard) and pick up their pay check. Companies rarely invest in skilled personnel, preferring to hire cheap labor.

megayachts project

The winners of architectural contests should be permitted, at a legislative level, to supervise the realization of their spatial development concepts. If this is not done, then contracting organizations will continue to profiteer and to alter concepts at the master-planning stage, condemning the original designs to remain mere ideas, a collection of pretty architectural renders in the official documentation. If third parties continue to oversee work, as opposed to the authors of the concepts, then the question must be answered: how will the quality of future projects be guaranteed?

There is no doubt about the mayor's desire to invest in the visual face of Moscow and to improve the city's quality of life. Yet the need remains for a more careful approach to project implementation and to hiring and contracting decisions. There also needs to be more active work with citizens - they are the main users of urban space, and they, ultimately, are the clients.

Mari Chichagova graduated with honours degree from the Faculty of Philology of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2009. In 2010 she started working at "Interior + Design," a magazine dedicated to architecture, design, culture and about people who were defining and driving those processes, from Norman Foster to Le Corbusier and Zaha Hadid. Moscow major projects

Since launching modern Russia’s largest construction program in 2011, Moscow has more than doubled its territory. To catalyze the full potential of this rapidly-growing metropolitan area of 19.5 million people, the City of Moscow’s government pays significant attention to infrastructure as one of the key pillars of urban development—with a current focus on projects that create livable and comfortable urban spaces for both citizens and tourists.

Following its first five years of projects, Moscow was given special recognition for “demonstrating outstanding strategic commitment and ambition” by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP). That period saw 50 million square meters of real estate developed, 370 social infrastructure objects built, and the metro expanded by 30 percent—including 101 kilometers of metro lines and 55 new stations. Innovative finance solutions, necessitated by the city government’s debt-free approach to development, enabled all this whilst maintaining a budget surplus and remaining a net donor region within Russia.

On 30-31 May 2018, the City of Moscow and Mosinzhproekt—a large Russian engineering, construction and project management company—hosted an Innovation Site Visit to showcase Moscow’s major projects to the Global Infrastructure Initiative (GII) community. Through roundtable discussions and site visits with project executives, participants explored where innovation and technology have enabled the step-changes that have allowed Moscow to deliver major projects on a short timeline—and how to apply these lessons to other cities and major projects.

The following insights emerged during GII’s Innovation Site Visit in Moscow:

  • Establish a structure for citizen involvement. Major urban infrastructure projects are an extremely visible expenditure of taxpayer funds while also often being large disruptors of daily life. A foundation of citizen support is essential for success and requires a thoughtful engagement program. In Moscow, citizens are encouraged to participate in the planning process by steering major initiatives through the “Active Citizen” application—a portal for online referendums on topics appropriate for democratic decision-making. To date, almost 2 million citizens have cast more than 90 million votes on over 3,000 issues through the platform. The purpose of this structure is to increase the opportunity for citizen engagement and involvement with their city’s major investments.
  • Manage the disruption ‘cost’. Major urban projects cannot be delivered without disrupting daily life. While citizens can be enrolled to accept the disruption as a necessary investment for a better outcome, equal attention needs to be given to managing the disruption ‘cost’ as to managing real expenditures. For example, MyStreets, a project to upgrade and enhance Moscow’s urban environment through reconstruction of streets and building façades, was disruptive to many citizens and commuters. However, through staging and swift execution, the disruption was minimized and the intended lifestyle improvements were quickly delivered to Muscovites and tourists who traverse newly styled pedestrian streets every day.
  • Invest in technology to optimize sequencing. Moscow’s cohesive vision for urban transformation has allowed early investments in technology to assist future delivery. One of the first projects completed was the centrally-controlled traffic management system which can monitor traffic conditions and urban movement through more than 2,000 traffic cameras and 160,000 CCTV cameras installed across the city. Data collected on current conditions, and knowledge of planned activities, allows real-time rerouting of traffic through the city’s dynamic signage. It also allowed identification and analysis of permanent traffic flow changes that could further ease disruptions like those created by the major construction projects.
Moscow traffic speed increased over 13% in 201.
  • Maximize utility of brownfield sites. A key reason the Moscow Central Circle (MCC), a new light-rail system integrated into the Moscow Metro, was completed in a record four-year period was the repurposing of existing brownfield networks which allowed the installation of modern technology on existing rail transport routes. The MCC’s 31 new stations will revitalize formerly abandoned industrial areas when its next stage of development builds an expected 300,000+ square meters of hotels, 250,000+ square meters of retail, and 200,000+ square meters of offices. This will give districts with historically poor infrastructure access a chance to develop at the same pace as the rest of the city.
  • Leverage PPPs to enhance basic services. To manage public cost and investment while delivering world-class infrastructure, municipalities need access to additional financing tools. Based on a structure that took an act of federal legislation, the MCC is an example of enhancing publicly developed foundations with private services. The tracks and land are owned by the Moscow Metro, with the rolling stock subcontracted to Russian Railways under a life cycle contract with a guaranteed buyback. The innovation is that Moscow Metro is licensing the development rights of its individual stations to private investors. Though all stations will exist under the same covenants, individual investors will assume their station’s construction cost and operational risk and rewards.
  • Create citizen-centric spaces. In addition to serving as open spaces, today’s city residents expect their parks to provide for entertainment and consumer services too. Many modern parks offer architectural features, charismatic vistas, and social, educational, and artistic spaces for all ages. When Zaryadye Park, an area of prime real estate next to the Kremlin was converted to parkland, an international contest resulted in 10 hectares being densely designed for this multi-function purpose. The outcome was two concert venues, restaurants, a parking garage, an entertainment complex, and a biological education center, all neatly camouflaged into a natural landscape that represents Russia’s ecological diversity.
  • Innovate where needed but not excessively. Moscow’s planners and builders did not shy away from technological innovation. The MCC used weldless joint rails to create a smoother and quieter system that is easier on riders and less disruptive to residents living near the railway tracks. The retrofit designs for Luzhniki Stadium were fully modeled in building information management (BIM)—a step which identified more than 100,000 conflict points before they could escalate into project delays. However, the project teams were also careful not to force innovation where it could create unnecessary risk and complications. Instead, they delivered the massive project portfolio by tactically melding innovations with highly-proficient execution of well-known and proven methods.

FEIG ELECTRONIC: Moscow-City Skyscrapers Streamline Parking Access and Control with Secure RFID

Feig electronic partners with isbc group to deploy ucode dna rfid security and parking access control solution in moscow business district.

Weilburg, Germany  — December 3,  2019  —  FEIG ELECTRONIC , a leading global supplier of radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and antennas with fifty years of industry experience, announces deployment of the UCODE DNA RFID security and parking contactless identification solution in the Moscow International Business Center, known as Moscow-City, one of the world’s largest business district projects.

The management of Moscow-City not only selected long-range, passive UHF RFID to implement in its controlled parking areas, it also chose to implement UCODE DNA , the highest form of secure RAIN RFID technology, developed by NXP Semiconductors.

megayachts project

“Underscoring NXP’s innovation and leadership in developing advanced RAIN RFID technologies, our UCODE DNA was chosen to be incorporated with the FEIG and ISBC implementation of the contactless identification system in the prestigious Moscow-City,” said Mahdi Mekic, marketing director for RAIN RFID with NXP Semiconductors. “This exciting project represents yet another successful deployment of NXP’s contactless portfolio, and showcases our continued ability to meet the high-security requirements of highly demanding applications without compromising user convenience.”

“UCODE DNA is considered the only identification technology to match the physical protection of a barrier with the cybersecurity necessary to truly protect entrances from unauthorized access,” said Manuel Haertlé, senior product manager for FEIG Electronic. “As a respected contactless payment technology company, FEIG applies security know-how from its payment terminals, which are fully certified according to the latest high-class security standards, into our RFID systems. FEIG vehicle access control RFID readers incorporate advanced secure key storage elements, supporting various methods for secure key injection.”

FEIG’s partner ISBC Group provided the knowledge and support for this successful implementation using  FEIG’s long-range UHF RFID . The resulting system enables authorized vehicle entry into areas reserved for private residential use or corporate tenants, while also allowing availability of temporary, fee-based visitor parking. Thanks to the cryptographic authentication of UCODE DNA, both the tag and reader must go through an authentication procedure before the reader will validate the data from the tag, which is transmitted wirelessly. This level of authentication is typically used in the most secure data communication networks.

“The system’s two-step authentication means that only authorized equipment can handle the secure protocol and the data exchange with the UCODE DNA based tag. Without the required cryptographic secrets, other readers would query the tag in vain, because the tag’s response cannot be interpreted or understood,” said Andrey Krasovskiy, director of the RFID department at ISBC Group. “On top of this, each data exchange in the authentication process is unique, so even if a malicious actor were to intercept the communication, the transmission is only good for a single exchange and the tag’s unique identity is protected from cloning.”

Established in 1992 and still growing, Moscow-City is the revitalization and transformation of an industrial riverfront into a new, modern, vibrant and upscale business and residential district. A mix of residential, hotel, office, retail and entertainment facilities, it is located about four kilometers west of Red Square along the Moscow River. Twelve of the twenty-three planned facilities have already been completed, with seven currently under construction. Six skyscrapers in Moscow-City reach a height of at least 300 meters, including Europe’s tallest building, Federation Tower, which rises more than 100 stories.

Pharrell Sets Sail on His Yacht Rock Era With Surprise New Album

  • By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

Pharrell appears to be celebrating his 51st birthday today, April 5, with a gift to fans — a new album that’s totally free to stream and download through one specific website .

To say there aren’t many confirmable details about the 10-track project is an understatement. Based purely on the album artwork, the project appears to be called Black Yacht Rock Vol. 1: City of Limitless Access and might be credited to a group called Virginia — though, for all we know, Virginia is part of the title.

And while it’s definitely Pharrell singing on the album, his name isn’t attached anywhere to the project, not even the metadata of the Mp3s if you download the LP (it’s similarly unclear if he played all the instruments himself or brought in some collaborators). The musician hasn’t promoted the album on his website or social media.

Black Yacht Rock Vol. 1 (if that is the official title) marks Pharrell’s first solo album (if we can actually consider this a solo album) since 2014’s Girl . He’s released two other collaborative singles this year, “Good People” with Mumford and Sons and “Doctor (Work It Out)” with Miley Cyrus.

Pharrell also has a couple of movie projects in the works. The first, announced earlier this year, will be a biopic of sorts but told entirely through Lego brick animation (it’s fittingly called Piece By Piece ). The other is an as-yet-untitled collaboration with filmmaker Michel Gondry , which will be set in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1977 (where Pharrell grew up) and feature a cast of Halle Bailey, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
