Epic Mickey Rebrushed Review - An Epic Retouching Of A Flawed Classic

Palworld game mechanics may have to be reworked, says lawyer, warhammer 40,000: space marine 2 - tactical class guide, quick links, how to reach the mural shrine, how to get the apostate's head, how to get the blasphemer's head, how to solve the hexagon puzzle (optional), how to defeat el gigante, how to solve the church puzzle.

The fourth chapter of Resident Evil 4 Remake sees Leon exploring several hidden Los Illuminados shrines along the shores of the lake. It's one of the more open-ended chapters, as you can complete the objectives in almost any order, so if one is giving you trouble then you can try again after doing something else! Related: Resident Evil 4 Remake: Chapter Three Walkthrough With this guide at the ready, though, you won't have too much trouble at all - we've got a complete walkthrough for the chapter, ensuring you'll be able to get the Church Insignia and find yourself one step closer to recovering Baby Eagle. This guide contains minor spoilers. Updated April 15, 2023: We've updated this guide to include a video walkthrough to show you everything you need to know about Chapter Four.

When the chapter begins, climb the stairs in front of you. During Leon's conversation with Hunnigan, smash the barrel at the top of the stairs. When they finish talking, enter the next room. Check the cupboard on the left for some ammo, then leave through the back door.Upon going outside, take the path to the right to get some ammo, then return to the shack and take the leftmost path to find a barrel with some more goods. Stick to the left side of the trail to find a Red Herb as well. When you find a tunnel, crouch to enter. On the other side, you'll have your first encounter with a fully-matured Plaga parasite. The easiest way to kill it is to throw a Flash Grenade ; otherwise, use the shotgun for maximum damage in the confined quarters of the tunnel. After destroying the Plaga, a Ganado will attack from around the corner. Another Plaga will burst forth from him after he's killed, so be ready!Walk past the bloody altar and up the stairs beyond to find a cave. At the back is a shrine, where the key to the church is locked behind a mechanism. Go into the room on the right and examine the mural of the lake to find the locations of the items that you need.Turn right from the mural and follow the tunnel to get back outside. Open the chest to the right to get an Old Wayshrine Key, and read the Merchant Request posted on the wall just to the left of the bridge. The Wayshrine Key unlocks the Wayshrines scattered throughout the village, revealing the treasures inside each!

At the other end of the bridge is a dock with a motorboat that you can use to navigate the lake. Going straight ahead and slightly to the left will bring you back to the Merchant's hideout, where several new items - including the TMP submachine gun - are available. If you haven't already, now is a great time to buy the Flash Grenade crafting recipe.

Maneuvering the boat over floating barrels will yield one hundred pesetas each!

Buy and sell whatever you need at the Merchant's, then hop back in the boat and take a right. You'll shortly see a dock on your left for the Large Cave Shrine. Due to a locked door, there's only one path forward for now. Be ready to fight your way through several Ganados, many of whom will spawn Plagas. Take advantage of the enemies at the back using Molotovs and dynamite to create explosions that will heavily damage the parasites without wasting too much of your ammo.

If you're low on supplies or are having trouble winning the fight here, move on to the next section and come back afterward - you'll have more ammo and healing items.

When the enemies are cleared, be sure to shoot the cask hanging over the bridge in the middle of the shrine. It contains a jewel you can sell later.

At the back of the cave is a pedestal with several buttons. You can only press three at a time. Look around the cave for glyphs painted in yellow on the walls , and press to corresponding buttons. The correct buttons (pressed in any sequence) are the bottom, upper-left, and upper-right. The pedestal opens the door to the right; go inside and collect the Apostate's Head , then return to the boat. Five more Ganados will have arrived as reinforcements, so be ready for more fighting! Related: Survival Horror Games With The Creepiest Audio

Back at the boat, go left to find a small docking area under the quarry. Open the Wayshrine to receive a Splendid Bangle, then take a look at the large block of granite that you can climb on behind you. Directly above it is a cask containing an Alexandrite that you can slot into the Bangle to increase its value. Try standing near the boat to get a good firing angle for bringing the cask down. When you're ready, take the tunnel in either direction out to the lake. Your first stop should be the wrecked boat in the middle. There are two chests onboard - one with a valuable Alexandrite, and another on the foredeck with the Red9 pistol. Next, go to the dock on the eastern shore of the lake , under the castle. You'll find several chickens here; collect the eggs they've laid for quick healing, then check behind the bush at the back of the yard for the Golden Egg that the Merchant requested.Get back in the boat and go north along the short , entering the cave under the castle indicated by a fire. Inside is another pedestal with the same symbols as before. There are no enemies this time, but you'll need to stand in exactly the right spot on top of the shrine to get the perspective required to see the symbols painted on the walls. The correct buttons are left, lower-left, and lower-right. When the shrine door opens, collect the Blasphemer's Head inside, as well as the third Hexagon Piece in the box next to the door, then climb the ladder to the right of the statue to find a cask containing a Ruby.

Return To The Lakeside Settlement (Optional)

There's one last optional stop to make before returning to the shrine. At the northwestern shore of the lake you can return to the Lakeside Settlement from Chapter One. There are a few Ganados here, so it's not entirely safe, but you can unlock the Wayshrine and collect a Ruby Ring in the basement where you first encountered Luis and Mendez. You can also use the Insignia Key to unlock the gate near the wall. Doing so lets you get a Small Key to open the drawer in the large house, and destroy a Clockwork Castellan hidden in the brush on the far end. Be warned that if you enter the Insignia gate, you'll be attacked by Ganados and Colmillos when you return! In the room under the Forest Altar, you'll find a Merchant Request on the left side. He wants to you catch the Lunker Bass in front of the boat house. Go to the spot where you started the chapter and look in the water to the left when facing the building. You should see the bass's fin sticking out of the water. Spear the fish with a harpoon, then collect it to sell when you next see the Merchant!

If you return to the dock that you first cast off from before the battle with Del Lago, you can place the three Hexagon Pieces on the Stone Pedestal (if you missed any, they're in the Merchant's Hideout, the Fish Farm, and next to the Blasphemer's Head). You'll be able to rotate three at a time around the central piece. The best way to solve the puzzle quickly is to get two adjacent outer pieces into place at a time. The image will depict Del Lago destroying a boat; place the monster's mouth at the top and its victim at the bottom to make it easily fall into place. Completing the puzzle will unlock a treasure that you can immediately sell to the Merchant.

Return to the Mural Cave with both the Apostate's Head and the Blasphemer's Head and place them on the hand-shaped altars. This unlocks the Church Insignia; return to the Merchant's Hideout and go back through the quarry to reach the church. Be sure to open the Stone Pedestal using the Hexagon Pieces , and the Wayshrine just outside the Hideout's main entrance! When you enter the quarry, the cultists will release El Gigante, triggering a boss fight. Before engaging, run into the shacks at the edge of the arena to collect the items inside. Be quick, as El Gigante will tear the building apart while you're inside.Hit El Gigante with whatever weapons you have available - the TMP is a good choice if you have ammo - until his Plaga emerges from his back. At this point, the boss will start using jump attacks that need to be evaded with a timed button press. If you saved the dog from the trap in the previous chapter, it will arrive to distract El Gigante . Don't waste ammo on the giant's main body - only damaging the Plaga will kill him.If you deal enough damage to the Plaga, El Gigante will fall to the ground, allowing you to make repeated melee attacks against the parasite. This is the surest way to deal damage. Flash Grenades will automatically trigger this; otherwise, your best bet is repeated shots with the pistol, TMP, or rifle.

When El Gigante is defeated, continue on your way back to the church. When you enter the churchyard, you'll be cornered by an infested wolf with a fully-grown Plaga. Kill it quickly before it can deal too much damage, then use the Church Insignia to open the main door.Inside the church, pick up the Green Herb to the left of the door and the bolts sitting on one of the pews. To the right of the door are several supplies, and a Blue Dial in a drawer at the end of the hall.Pull the lever to the left of the altar to activate the church's puzzle. Place the Blue Dial on the console that appears, then rotate each dial so that the Los Illuminados Symbol isn't overlapped by any of the colored panes of glass. The best way to do this is to rotate them one at a time , looking for shapes near the center that fit inside the arms of the symbol. When the window is aligned, the door in the left hallway will open. Go inside and climb the ladder to the second floor; enter the door on the left to find Ashley and end the chapter. Next: The Best Third-Person Survival Horror Games

Resident Evil 4 remake follows Agent Leon S. Kennedy on his quest to find and rescue the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, from the clutches of a murderous cult. Upon arriving at his destination, he and his escorts become separated, leaving Leon to continue his search for Ashley on his own.

RELATED: Resident Evil 4 Remake: How to Get a Laser Sight

Before Leon can find Ashley, however, he must first acquire the means necessary to explore The Lake, one of the largest areas in Resident Evil 4 remake . To do this, he must secure fuel for the boat, as its previous sailors failed to fill it up after coming ashore. The Boat Fuel can be pretty difficult to find, both because of its location and the enemies standing in its way.

How to Find the Fish Farm in Resident Evil 4 Remake

In Chapter 3 of Resident Evil 4 remake, Leon will need to sail across The Lake in order to find the key needed to unlock the door to the Church. Before he can set sail, however, he will need to refuel the boat he plans to use, as the areas in which the keys are kept cannot be reached on foot.

RELATED: Resident Evil 4 Remake: How to Solve the Lake Door Puzzles

In order to locate the Boat Fuel, Leon must travel to the Fish Farm just west of the dock by climbing up the ladder to the south. Before continuing the search, the player should backtrack to save the game at the Typewriter in the previous room, as the upcoming area is crawling with dangerous enemies.

If possible, the player should also make use of the Merchant in the area just before the dock to purchase some weapon upgrades if they can afford any. Repairing the Combat Knife can also be a great help, as it is possible to defeat most of the enemies roaming the Fish Farm with stealth.

Proceeding west, Leon will find a note alluding to the location of the Boat Fuel on the wall just right of the cave entrance. Continuing on, he will eventually reach an opening overlooking the Fish Farm. Walking across the wooden walkway leading further in will cause the structure to break, stranding Leon in the shallow water below.

Boat Fuel Location in Resident Evil 4 Remake

While staying crouched, Leon can sneak up on the enemies littered along the path to the Boat Fuel and kill them with stealth attacks. If possible, the player should try their best to remain unseen until they can stealthily take out the Brute , one of the most dangerous enemies in Resident Evil 4 remake.

The Boat Fuel is located in the far west building at the very edge of the Fish Farm. From the shallow water Leon landed in, he should proceed northwest to the stairs and then travel directly southwest. He will then need to proceed down the stairs ahead into the water and proceed northwest once more. Climbing up the ramp ahead, Leon should continue along the wooden structure, disarm the beeping trap, walk forward a few more steps, and jump into the water on his left.

From here, walking directly west will lead to the building containing the Boat Fuel. To get inside, Leon must kick the door or shoot the lock . Once inside, the Boat Fuel can be found on the table to the table in the room's left corner. With the Boat Fuel acquired, Leon can return to the boat located at the dock to travel out into The Lake.

Resident Evil 4 remake is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Resident Evil 4 remake walkthrough and guides

Leon, lean on us

Leon Kennedy aims a pistol while explosions explode behind him in key art for the Resident Evil 4 remake.

Resident Evil 4 passes the remake smell test. A far cry from some phoned-in cash cow, Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 4 collates (almost) everything that made the original such a standout and burnishes the whole package for modernized sensibilities. It’s the rare remake that truly stands on its own.

Best of all, Resident Evil 4 maintains the core components of any great Resident Evil game: It’s dense, complicated, packed with systems that aren’t always explained, and juuust scary enough. If you’re a first-timer, it can be a lot to navigate. If you’ve played the original once a year for the past two decades, you’ll still find some surprises — you might even get stuck here and there.

We’ve got you covered. Start with our beginners guide , and learn how to make even more money (in the game, not IRL, sorry). Read through our comprehensive chapter walkthroughs , which cover all of the items, files, and treasures you’ll find across Leon’s journey. Figure out how to defeat some of the toughest early bosses and solve some of the hardest early puzzles . And of course, no jaunt through Resident Evil 4 is complete without the totemic Red9 pistol, which we can show you how to get .

Lock and load, Leon. Against the horrors that the Los Plagas have unleashed, it's just you.

Players going into the Resident Evil 4 remake will be taking on a wide variety of different monsters and foes. As such, it's only fitting that you respond in kind with every weapon and trick possible. I've rounded up a list of every weapon in the game, as well as what you'll need in order to use it. Considering the long list of enemies and bosses in the Resident Evil 4 remake , you'll need everything you can get.

There's a total of 29 weapons in Leon's adventure, though that's including the different types of grenades and knives, as well as some unlockable weapons that you won't be able to use on your first playthrough. For these unlockable weapons, once you've met the requirements to unlock them, they'll be available for purchase from The Merchant in subsequent playthroughs.

Buying guns will take a lot of money, and upgrading them is even more expensive, so consult out guide on maximizing treasure value in the Resident Evil 4 remake .

For obvious reasons, there will be mild spoilers in this article. It's also important to note that the price of these weapons actually fluctuates depending on the chapter you acquire them in and the difficulty you're playing on.

Resident Evil 4 remake DLC

There are some bonus items available as DLC in Capcom's latest remake. They aren't required, but give you a bit more variety, including two extra weapons that aren't available in-game otherwise.

Buy from: Xbox

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: SG-O9 R (Handgun)

The basic gun that Leon starts every playthrough with, so you don't have to do anything to get this. Without upgrades, it's nothing special, but with a handful of upgrades purchased for the damage and capacity, it will serve as a solid workhorse weapon for a large portion of the game, especially on Standard difficulty or below.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Punisher

The Punisher handgun has solid penetration damage, making it a reasonable alternative to use instead of the starting handgun. It doesn't cost any money, but instead you'll need to exchange 5 Spinels at the Merchant. Sometimes you can find Spinels as loot, but the majority will be earned by completing requests for the Merchant through Resident Evil 4 remake.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Red9

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons Red9 location

Another handgun that can be a fairly reliable precision weapon against the hordes of weaker enemies, you can find the Red9 as early as Chapter 4. When using the motorboat to make your way around the lake and waterways, check the very center of the lake and explore the wrecked boat. The Red9 is found on a chest inside.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons Red9

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Matilda

Another gun that can't be bought, you'll have to trade 10 Spinels to the Merchant to get it. It's a burst-fire handgun, so it can provide heavy damage at the cost of more quickly eating through your ammo supplies.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Blacktail

The final handgun you can get, this is essentially a "replacement" if you are still using the basic starting pistol. You'll be able to buy it from the Merchant in the final few chapters of the game, but there's no reason to upgrade if you're using the Punisher or Red9.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: W-870 (Shotgun)

The first shotgun you can get, and the first gun outside of the starting pistol that you have access to, the W-870 can be found as early as Chapter 1. In the village, check out the northmost building on the map and go up the stairs. You'll see this shotgun in a rack on the wall.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Riot Gun

A more powerful shotgun that becomes available for purchase after the first third of the game. It essentially replaces the W-870, and will most likely be your main shotgun through the rest of the game once you've got it.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Striker

A shotgun with an extremely wide spread, the Striker isn't great to damaging individual targets, but it does ensure your target will be hit. Don't use it to aim for weak points, use it to hit entire groups of enemies in a single blast. The Striker becomes available for purchase in the final third of the game.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: TMP

A basic submachine gun, the TMP can easily deal heavy damage to individual targets, as well as quickly damage an entire group of enemies. It's not super accurate outside of melee range though.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: LE-5

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons LE-5 location

The most advanced submachinegun that can be obtained in a first-time run through the game, the LE-5 is found in Chapter 13 as you're trying to get through to Ashley. It's located in the Freezer as you upgrade your keycards. You'll need to solve a block puzzle to open the door.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons LE-5

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Chicago Sweeper

Better known by its colloquial name, the Tommy Gun, this is a strong submachinegun unlocked by beating the main story on Professional difficulty and getting at least an A rank.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: SR M1903 (Rifle)

This basic bolt-action rifle is good for dealing with long-range targets early on in the game, and can be bought from the Merchant as early as Chapter 2. This is just after Leon gets his gear back.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Stingray

A more advanced semi-automatic rifle, the Stingray can be bought from the Merchant starting in Chapter 7 when you first arrive at the castle with Ashley. This will likely be your primary rifle through the remainder of the game, unless you want an automatic gun.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: CQBR Assault Rifle

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons Assault Rifle location

A fully automatic rifle, the CQBR deals rapid damage and has the largest rifle capacity, making it perfect for quickly softening up a boss or mowing down a group of weaker enemies. The downside is that it also chews through ammunition quickly.

You can find it at any point during the castle after Ashley has been abducted again in Chapter 10. Head to the upstairs section of the south library and open the Square Lock Box.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons Assault Rifle

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Broken Butterfly

The first "magnum" type weapon available, it'll be your heavy damage-dealing gun for a large portion of the game. You can buy it from the Merchant once you reach the castle.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Killer7

The second magnum available in a first-time run through the game, the Killer7 effectively replaces the Broken Butterfly with higher damage and ammo capacity. You can buy it from the Merchant, but you'll get a discount if you wait until Chapter 15.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Handcannon

A powerful Magnum that's unlocked by beating a new game in the main story on Professional difficulty without using any bonus weapons.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Bolt Thrower

A one-of-a-kind weapon that fires retrievable bolts, you can buy it from the Merchant early on in the game. You can use it to silently kill enemies, and you can also attach explosives to the bolts in order to set up traps. Clever usage will get a lot out of this weapon.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Rocket Launcher

Available for purchase from the Merchant (at heavy cost) this is a great way for taking out any non-boss foe in a single shot. The downside is that it takes up a large amount of space and will be used the least of any guns, so it may not be the best idea to grab it on your first playthrough.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Rocket Launcher (Special)

At the very end of the game, you'll get a special rocket launcher specifically for fighting the final boss. A variant with infinite ammunition can be purchased in New Game+.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Kitchen Knife

A very basic knife that quickly wears out. When it breaks, it can't be repaired, so it's best used for things that can preserve the durability of your main knife. Use it to parry a chainsaw attack only after it's close to breaking. You can find these early on in the game.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Boot Knife

Another kind of knife that breaks and cannot be repaired, it is very slightly more durable and damaging than the Kitchen Knife. Like the Kitchen Knife, you can maximize its usefulness by only stopping a chainsaw attack after wearing down the durability through stealth kills or other attacks. These can be found all throughout the game.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Combat Knife

Leon starts the game with this knife, and can use it like other knives to do slashing attacks, parry enemies, and stop chainsaw attacks. Unlike the other knives you find scattered throughout the game, the Combat Knife can be improved and repaired after it breaks.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Fighting Knife

Automatically acquired at the end of Chapter 14 after beating that boss fight, the Fighting Knife is like the Combat Knife, in that it can be repaired after breaking. It does higher damage than the Combat Knife, but has lower durability.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Primal Knife

A knife that's unlocked by destroying all 16 of the Clockwork Castellans in the Resident Evil 4 remake .

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Hand Grenade

A basic grenade that deals a blast of damage in a radius. You can find these scattered all throughout the game.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Heavy Grenade

A more powerful grenade that takes up more inventory space, the Heavy Grenade deals even more damage, making it perfect for obliterating a group of enemies or dealing massive trauma to a single target.

Resident Evil 4 remake weapons: Flash Grenade

A flashbang grenade that can be found scattered throughout the entirety of the game. It stuns most enemies, but it can also be used to instantly kill exposed Plagas, meaning that clever usage can instantly end some otherwise difficult fights.

Licensed to kill

Many a monster will come your way in the Resident Evil 4 remake, but that's why Leon's arsenal is extensive. Look around, and be sure to solve Merchant requests in order to gain Spinels that can be traded for some guns and upgrades.

Our review of the Resident Evil 4 remake indicates that that it's one of the best Xbox games available, with managing editor Jez Corden writing that "Without a doubt, Resident Evil 4 is a must-play game. And while I personally prefer the more horror-oriented games, Resident Evil 4's fun factor and raw quality make it easy to put those preferences aside. It's also a little refreshing to be able to recommend this to anyone and everyone. If you find other Resident Evil titles to be too overwhelming but still have a fascination with the franchise, Resident Evil 4 might be absolutely ideal for you. "

Resident Evil 4 Remake: 11 Things We Learned From The New Gameplay

Here’s everything we learned from our latest hands-off preview of Resident Evil 4 Remake

By Kurt Indovina on March 2, 2023 at 4:31PM PST

Resident Evil 4 Remake is only weeks away, but there are still so many questions to answer about Capcom’s ambitious remake. Thankfully, I got the chance to see about 20 minutes of gameplay which gave me a glimpse into the lake area, the castle, and the iconic Krauser knife fight. Here are 11 new things I learned about the game.

Knife parry galore

Chainsaws aren’t the only thing Leon can deflect with his trusty knife now. In fact, from the gameplay I saw, you’ll be able to parry just about anything with your knife. Whether it’s airborne torches, speeding arrows, or even the nasty tentacle claws of head-erupted parasites, Leon’s new-and-improved knife can counter them all. However, this hefty upgrade in functionality does not come without some compromises. Unlike the original, the knife now has a durability bar, akin to Resident Evil 2 Remake’s take on the knife. So while the extra versatility adds more variety to Resident Evil 4’s combat formula, it’s not without some resource management considerations. Additionally, Leon now has the ability to evade fatal blows, giving the player a split-second prompt to dodge attacks like Garrador’s enormous claws.

Now Playing: Resident Evil 4 Remake: 11 Things We Learned From The New Gameplay

Director Yasuhio Ampo and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi assured me that Leon’s extra combat functionality will not compromise the harrowing feeling of the original's enemy encounters. With the addition of giving the player more options in combat also comes the balance of making the enemies just as equipped to challenge you. As such, Capcom has upgraded enemy movements and given them an array of new attacks to level the playing field.

Expanded exploration

While the original RE4 was rather linear in its presentation (by Resident Evil standards, that is), the remake is taking a more expansive approach, giving the player more space to wander and explore areas off the beaten path. More notably, this also includes the freedom to explore by motorboat.

In the original, driving the motorboat was limited to the Del Lago boss fight. This time, however, you’ll be able to control the motorboat freely, traversing the watery depths of caverns, and exploring other areas entirely. Many of these areas seem to be gated off, but can be accessed by solving small puzzles similar to the insignia puzzle seen only once outside the village church in the original.

The pacing of the original game, while linear, is something I consider one of the game’s crowning achievements. So when I asked Ampo-san and Hirabayashi-san whether they took the pacing in consideration when adding expanded exploration, they responded that while retaining the original’s pacing was important, they still wanted to give the player the option to explore if they pleased. Additionally, Ampo-san noted that Resident Evil 2 Remake emphasized a more metroidvania-like approach than its original, and wanted to carry that over to RE4R.

An additional detail I noticed during these motorboat segments is that the prompt to ready spears exists beyond the Del Lago boss fight, leading me to speculate that there are more enemies to fight in the water than we’ve been shown.

New requests

A staple of the original Resident Evil 4 was the Blue Medallion side quest, where players could scout out and shoot blue medallions hidden in the environment to unlock special weapons to purchase from the Merchant. This time around the medallions aren’t the only things you’ll be hunting for. Leon will now encounter a multitude of requests, such as finding a golden egg to sell to the Merchant. The Capcom team couldn’t share what other requests there will be, but assured me there will be a variety beyond just shooting medallions and hunting for eggs.

New to Resident Evil 4 remake is the addition of storage–a staple in many other installments in the franchise, but omitted from the original RE4. Whenever Leon visits a typewriter, the player can now store their items there. This is significant considering that if you ran out of room in your case in the original, you’d have to sell or abandon those items, which sometimes meant parting ways with weapons too.

I suspect the implementation of storage came in part with the addition of crafting, as players will now be collecting a lot more items in order to make herbs, ammunition, etc, and is sure to lead to a cluttered and overstuffed inventory quickly.

Case customization and charms

I loved nothing more than spending an exhausting amount of time organizing my inventory in the original game, which is why this new addition is a fun one. Players can now change the physical appearance of their case. It’s a small but considered touch that acknowledges the importance of the game system. I was only given a peek at two of the case styles--a traditional silver metal case and one with a sleek black exterior--but I can imagine that there will be many more options to unlock.

The exterior of the case isn’t the only customizable addition. Leon can now attach up to three charms to his case, each one with their own gameplay perk. I was shown a Chicken charm which granted the player 100% health when eating an egg.

Capcom told me that these charms are unlocked by playing a minigame, but the details of that game were not disclosed. Could it be a replacement for the figures you unlocked from the shooting gallery minigame in the original?

Ceiling Plaga

Yes, you read that right. The already terrifying Plaga that erupts from cultists head can now leap into the air and attach to the ceiling, which is utterly terrifying. This is, I assume, what director Ampo-san was referring to when talking about giving enemies extra abilities to compliment Leon’s new combative versatility.

Ashley Graham

Among the many overhauls seen so far in Resident Evil 4 Remake, one of the most interesting has been Ashley Graham herself. Based on the eight minutes of gameplay I saw featuring her, it's clear she’s been significantly reworked in some inspiring ways. Most notable is her lack of a health bar. No longer will the player have to monitor her health, stop the game to give her herbs, or worry about upgrading it along the way. Instead, when Ashley is injured she’ll become incapacitated, requiring the player to get her back to her feet by interacting with her.

No Caption Provided

When I asked the team about the decision to change Ashley’s health, they noted that in the original, micromanaging her health became too much of a game system in of itself, making her more a chore for the player rather than viewing her as a human character to attach to. On the note of treating Ashley more humanely, Capcom confirmed that you will no longer order Ashley to hide in a dumpster, emphasizing that it’s unkind to treat the character that way.

Another change is how Ashley is commanded. The player now has two basic options for Ashley which are either to give Leon some space while in a fight, or to stick close to him. The commands feel more organic and natural than in the original which were simply “wait” or “follow me”.

Ampo-san noted that it is important to make Ashley and Leon’s relationship more personable and give depth to the characters that was absent in the original–a similar emphasis was placed on improving the dynamic seen between Claire and Leon in Resident Evil 2 Remake. Ampo-san feels this is accomplished simply by having Leon and Ashley talk more.

Some things are best untouched

While there’s a considerable amount of tweaks and changes, some areas appear nearly identical to the original. This, of course, includes the game's iconic castle entrance. Making your way into the castle, taking out cultists armed with bow guns, and dodging an onslaught of flaming cannonballs seems almost unchanged from the original, apart from some small upgrades. These include the ability to freely fire a cannon at other catapults, enemies, and, of course, the main entrance gate.

New weapon - Bolt Thrower

Joining the arsenal is a Bolt Thrower. While I only got to see it in action once during the gameplay, it made a sizable impression as I watched it launch a proximity mine into the ground before exploding and knocking several enemies back. Considering the new crafting mechanics, I speculate there'll be a variety of ammo types to make for the Bolt Thrower, which is reminiscent of Resident Evil CODE Veronica’s Bow Gun. Is this a nod to CODE Veronica? Probably not, but that doesn’t stop me from convincing myself it is.

The Garrador fight

There are many iconic enemy encounters from the original Resident Evil 4, but few are as embedded in my brain as deeply as the first run-in you have with the blind and unwavering beast that is the Garrador. It was a claustrophobic dance of tiptoeing around the monstrous brute, who could only track you by sound. In the remake, Capcom has upped the ante by making the arena in which you fight the Garrador even smaller, and with the addition of chains that dangle from the ceiling, forcing Leon to maneuver around them to avoid making sounds and giving away his position. This new take on the fight was also one of the first times I got to see the benefit of the newly added stealth mechanic, which showed Leon sneaking up to stab the Garrador’s back parasite.

The Krauser knife fight

Quick-time events are officially a thing of the past. Yes, that’s right--the original testosterone-induced, action movie knife fight, executed solely with QTEs, has been overhauled to a full-fledged, real-time fight sequence. In the short clip I was shown, the game’s knife parrying mechanics and split-second evade prompts were on full display while duking it out with Jack Krauser.

While I will always have an affinity for that original QTE knife fight, the one in the remake still manages to look totally badass. Also, it appears the conversation between Leon and Krauser has been more fleshed out, with Leon calling out “Operation Javier.” Could this be more details that explain Krauser’s supposed death that happened two years prior?

25 years after its initial release and 4 years after the remake, the original Resident Evil 3 is finally coming to PC

Resident Evil 3

A port of the original third Resident Evil game from Capcom will soon be available on PC - a whopping 25 years after its initial release.

Four years have passed since the Resident Evil 3 remake dropped in 2020, with a port of the original remaining unavailable to PC players - until this week, that is. Digital game platform GOG just announced that the OG survival horror hit is coming to its storefront on September 25. The news arrives right on time for the iconic Capcom gem's 25th anniversary, with GOG joking "we go hard on the celebrations."

The time has come...Resident Evil 3 re-releases September 25th!Wishlist now on GOG: https://t.co/Wboj9uxxyO@RE_Games @CapcomUSA_ pic.twitter.com/pOIrH6brY6 September 23, 2024

The port's upcoming release isn't all that surprising, though - just a few months ago, a port of the original Resident Evil game dropped on GOG with the sequel following soon after. The company stated all three of the series' OG titles would eventually be purchasable on the storefront, either separately or within a bundle . The third is the final to come, marking the re-release of another one of the best Resident Evil games .

Fans interested in completing the classic collection can wishlist Resident Evil 3 via GOG before it launches this Wednesday. Much like the first and second games, the third should cost $11.37 - or just $26.56 for the trio in its entirety if purchasing the bundle. It's a small price to pay for a timeless spooktacular experience, I'd say - especially with Halloween now being right around the corner.

Itching for even more thrills? Here are some of the best horror games to play this spooky season.
