Great View but Club is too cheap to turn on the air conditioning or heat as needed. Mediocre food. I have only been a guest several times, so I am not a member. Miss the Marina City Club Restaurant.

Located adjacent to Burton Chase Park in Marina del Rey, SMWYC.org offers some of the best sunset views you'll find of the marina. The drinks are stiff, the beer is cold. The lunch menu offers a variety of reasonably priced sandwiches and plates - my favorite is the 1941 burger cooked medium. Dinner menu varies based on chef's offerings. Double check the hours of operation for seasonal schedule changes.

Attended for a networking function, absolutely fabulous food and wine. Watch the sunset behind the harbor and the mountains in the distance while you enjoy all the atmosphere this place has to offer. If you are looking for a nice venue that isn't stuffy look no further. For all of you millennials out there: Instagram worthy!

I been in a lot of yacht clubs and this one hast a breathtaking view, the hamburger 1941 is just amazing! The baja Fish tacos best in town and the fresh mojitos just paradise!! If you're not a member still can rent the venue for a party

I went for the first time on July 2, 2021. I liked the band. Venue is cozy and nice. Food and drinks were good...when I got them and that is my problem with this venue event. Service was very slow. Staff was overwhelmed by the amount of customers that were there. I saw 1 bartender, 1 manager and 1 server. I suppose they had cooks in the back but that was it. It took anywhere from10-20 minutes to go stand in line at the bar to get a drink. Food took 1 hour. I did enjoy the band. Staff was fast friendly and apologetic about the lack of speed which is why I won't give the the 1 star. I saw 4 people complain to the manager or staff. I'm sure there were more. I'm hoping this was a fluke and they do better in the future. If there is some who works that monitors this I would love to know why this venue was not adequately staffed?

The best yacht club in Marina del Rey! Why, you ask? LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! It is unbelievably located directly adjacent to Burton Chase Park. This yacht club has membership at any level whether you own a boat or not. There is a fantastic second floor full bar and restaurant with live music and event space. Unbelievable food made by Chef Israel, a culinary genius. I recommend the Avocado Ice Cream!!! Very delicious, very unique. Tell them Kittysmack sent you and Danny will get your first round on me after you join as a member.

This place is awesome! By far the best yacht club in Los Angeles. It's not a snooty overpriced restaurant that has a few boats sitting on the side. This is a place is great if you really want to sail and hang out with people that want to sail.

I had my wedding reception at Windjammers in late June. I was so happy with the experience. Israel was very attentive and accommodating. I had many questions for him, especially because I had to do most of the planning while in another state. I was happy. They even organized parking to make it easier for my guest. I highly recommend SMWYC if you are looking for a space to hold an event.

Since 1941, Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club has been an established member-operated, family-focused, and sailing oriented private club in Marina Del Rey, CA. A lively club, SMWYC boasts a range of activities and benefits for all membership levels, including a robust junior sailing program, racing, food and beverage service, social gatherings, holiday parties, sailing lessons, and sailboat, kayak and paddle board fleets. 

A Membership Level for Everyone

Couples Flag

Includes membership for a full family along with use (upon certification) of the Small Boat Fleet for an additional $10 a month. In addition, this membership includes usage of our Paddling, Kayak and Bicycle Fleets. This membership class enjoys all rights and privileges, including holding office, serving as a Director, making full use of all Club facilities and racing under the Club's burgee.   

Individual Flag

Membership for an individual along with use (upon certification) of the Small Boat Fleet for an additional $10 a month. In addition, this membership includes usage of our Paddling, Kayak and Bicycle Fleets. This membership class enjoys all rights and privileges of Flag Membership but is limited to qualified individuals age twenty-one (21) or over who have no co-applicant indicated on their application.

Jr. Family Membership

For families with children who are active participants in the Junior Sailing Program. Families receive the benefits of membership, including member discounts on sail camps. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

This membership type is available for anyone who regularly participate in on-the-water activities, is a member or owner of a boat recognized by US Sailing, World Sailing, PHRF, Cruising Class or Fleet, subject to the approval of the Fleet Captain and Board of Directors. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

This membership class is available to qualified individuals between the ages of eighteen (18) years and thirty-five (35) years. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

First Responder

$360/annually. Billed Quarterly.

We love and support our military! This membership package is for our First Responders, Law Enforcement and all service members. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge.

For those individuals actively attending a University full time. Participation in the Small Boat Fleet is available for an additional charge..

$5/day, 7 day maximum.

Located 10 minutes from LAX and Santa Monica, the SMWYC property enjoys stunning waterfront views from its bar and patio.

L.A. County approves new lease for Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a short lease term to 2022, with two five-year extension options through March 31, 2032.

SANTA MONICA—The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a lease allowing the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club to remain at their current location until at least 2022.

The Los County Board of Supervisors, at its Sept. 3 meeting, approved an amended and restated lease extending the lease term to March 31, 2022, and providing two five-year options to potentially extend the term to March 31, 2032. According to the terms, the two five-year options are contingent on county’s determination that continued occupancy of the premises by the lessee will not unreasonably interfere with any other county-approved use of the leased premises, for example, the contemplated enlargement of Burton Chace Park.

According to a board letter from County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors Director Gary Jones, the relative short duration of the lease extension and five-year options are less than ideal for the club and even less appealing to any other potential tenant. He went on to say, nevertheless, the short durations are required by the county in order to best plan the future development of the premises and surrounding area.

The terms amend the 2008 lease so the county will no longer be required to pursue a replacement facility for SMYC upon expiration or termination of the lease. It also clarifies the respective responsibilities of the county and lessee regarding maintenance and repairs of the premises. All improvements on the premises and all alterations shall be owned by the county, expect the boat hoist. The yacht club will be fully and solely responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and/or replacement of the hoist. The lease also states the lessee shall not make any improvement, modification, installation, or other alteration of, on, or to the premises, or any utility or other system serving the premises, without the prior written consent of county.

According to the lease agreement, the annual minimum rent will be $25,500 and the minimum monthly rent will be $2,125. The rental income received by the county from the lease is deposited into a special trust fund to be used for the annual operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of the Anchorage 47 docks and premises.

The Small Craft Harbor Commission unanimously endorsed the proposed lease at its Sept. 12, 2018, meeting.

The yacht club has been operating out of a portion of Parcel 47 in Marina del Rey since 1985. The property includes the clubhouse, a portion of its parking lot and a thirty-two mast-up dry boat storage facility. SMYC also operates a youth sailing program that is open to the public.

We have more great stuff to offer this summer.  Back for 2023 is the Second Week class, Cruise Weeks and a redefinition of Advanced classes.  Why mess with a good thing you ask?  We thought hard about the students' experiences and learned a few things about how to incorporate the Nikkis, Keel Boats, wing foiling and the 29er.  Our cruises to Catalina were such an overwhelming success we decided cruises are here to stay.  Click on our Summer Sail Camp tab, learn more and make your reservations.  We are looking forward to making this an epic summer of sailing!

Recap of the RS Tera North American Championship

The RS Tera North Americans was an epic event for SMWYC and our Juniors program.  Based upon the smiles and everything else we saw it was also fun for the competitors, parents and volunteers.  Teams from Colorado, Park City, Dana Point, Oceanside and Alamitos Bay arrived Friday and after getting them situated, we held about three hours of practice races and then had our own practice during Open Sailing.
