72m CRN N Joy yacht launch

10 of the latest superyacht launches

Yards launch bigger, better and more standout superyachts every month and now that the summer season is in full swing, there are plenty of new models making their way to the Med for some time spent cruising ahead of the upcoming boat show season...

Length: 67m Builder: Heesen

In June 2023, Sparta emerged from the shipyard and overthrew the 60.6-metre Lusine as the Dutch builder’s largest steel construction to date. Exterior and interior styling are by Winch Design , whose studio opted for a low exterior profile alongside a hull accented in “Venetian red” and metallic grey. Her elemental interiors include an earthy main saloon upholstered in real palm leaf and an airy master cabin with mother-of-pearl inlays, soft fabrics and hazy Tai Ping carpets.

Sparta is currently for sale with Arcon Yachts.

Bad Company Support

Length: 53.3m Builder: Damen Yachting

Bad Company Support is the first unit in the Dutch shipyard’s new YS53 support vessel series, built for legendary sportfisherman Anthony Hsieh. As Hsieh’s largest yacht, she will be joining his expansive fleet offering game fishing expeditions and supporting marine conservation projects in some of the planet’s most unchartered waters. All of her design and naval architecture were completed entirely in-house by Damen Yachting.

Bad Company Support is expected to be delivered later this month.

Highland Fling XVIII

Length: 24.7m Builder: Gunboat

Gunboat's flagship catamaran is expected to be one of the fastest in its size bracket, capable of exceeding true wind speed at just six knots. Highland Fling XVIII’s striking scarlet exterior is owed to French studio VPLP with interiors by Chedal Anglay Design – who plotted them with the help of virtual reality. She is currently undergoing sea trials in La Grande Motte, France, joined by her racing team who plan to put her performance to the test.

Highland Fling XVIII is expected to be delivered in August 2023, with her racing debut scheduled for the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo.

Length: 77.7m Builder: Golden Yachts

With a contemporary-style plumb bow and trapezium-shaped windows, O’Rea carves a more modern profile when compared to her predecessors O’Pari and O’Ptasia . Her distinctive exterior is courtesy of Stefano Vafiadis , with interior styling also handled by Vafiadis in collaboration with Italian studio Massari Design . More than 250 finishes are claimed to have been used throughout, including polished marble and precious stones. The yacht will be also home to a collection of contemporary artworks, curated by Vasilis Dragnis in collaboration with Anna Chatzinassiou.

O'Rea is expected to be delivered later this month and will make her global debut at the Monaco Yacht Show later this year.

Length: 35m Builder: Vanquish Yachts

Originally commissioned in 2020, this anticipated build launched in May and will be the largest member of the Vanquish fleet upon her delivery to the Hamptons. Manu is one of the fastest aluminium yachts on the water, delivering a top speed of over 40 knots thanks to a combination of three MTU Rolls Royce engines. Befitting her eye-watering speeds is a sporty, streamlined exterior designed by Guido de Groot .

Manu is expected to be delivered this month.

Danzante Bay

Length: 50m Builder: Crescent Custom Yachts

Danzante Bay is the largest superyacht to be built in Canada and marks the first new launch by Crescent Custom Yachts since Crescent Lady in February 2020. Commissioned by an American owner, she was named after his Mexican resort and golf course. The yacht is built from a composite hull bought from Christensen Yachts with exterior design owed to Gregory C. Marshall and interiors by British studio H2 Yacht Design .

Danzante Bay is expected to be delivered in August 2023.

Length: 59.4m Builder: Rossinavi

Akula is Italian shipyard Rossinavi’s first-ever explorer yacht. Ice-classified, her stand-out scarlet hull and white aluminium superstructure is designed by Gian Paolo Nari . Interior design is by Ancona-based FM Architettura , with the yacht’s layout optimised to support marine research and philanthropic projects. In particular, she can store various diving equipment and two six-metre containers that can act as transportable science labs.

Akula is expected to be delivered in September 2023.

Length: 33.5m Builder: Baltic Yachts

Named after an ancient Caribbean deity, this sloop-rigged sailing yacht was commissioned by a highly experienced family with around-the-world cruising in mind. Zemi was designed by Malcolm McKeon and features his trademark wrap-over teak decking, as well as multiple headsail options for various weather conditions. Interiors were completed by Andreas Martin-Löf in his yachting debut and feature warm walnut and limestone veneers bonded to lightweight honeycomb structures.

Zemi is expected to be delivered this month.

Length: 50m Builder: Columbus Yachts

With exteriors and interiors created by Marco Casali of Too-Design, Anjelif ’s brass colouring is far from her only stand-out feature. She also boasts several technical innovations, such as a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and onboard sanitisation that incorporates cold plasma for the elimination of airborne viruses and bacteria. An impressive recreational highlight is the touch-and-go helipad on the bow, which can convert to an open-air cinema when not in use.

Anjelif is expected to be delivered in August 2023 and will debut at this year's Monaco Yacht Show .

Riva 82 Diva

Length: 25m Builder: Riva Yachts

This unit is the debut of Riva’s brand new flybridge series, which aims to “open a new chapter” for the Sarnico-based builder with its “revolutionary approach to the use of space”. Designed by Officina Italiana Design in conjunction with Ferretti Group , the Riva 82 Diva features one of the largest flybridges in its category at 40 square metres. Two large bulwarks fold out to create overwater terraces, expanding the yacht’s six-metre beam by an additional three metres.

The Riva 82 Diva is expected to be delivered in September 2023 and will attend the Cannes Yachting Festival that same month.

The Superyacht Report - New Build Focus Out Now

Issue 220: the superyacht new build report is now available to read and download online….

superyacht in liverpool today

The Superyacht Report - New Build Focus allowed us to get behind the scenes and speak to leaders and innovators whom we would have no industry without. Order books are full, shipyards are expanding, and this is good news for all of us. But against a changing regulatory landscape and increased focus on more efficient, innovative and sustainable technology, we looked to explore how this is affecting the grassroots of our industry in the shipyards, and what it means for the future.

In this latest issue, our esteemed Editor, Jack Hogan, marks his final edition with a plea to utilise the under-utilised knowledge reservoir that lies on board yachts at sea. Over the years, The Superyacht Group has flourished with his irreplaceable wealth of experience and technical expertise from years spent at sea, and there is no reason that more companies within the industry can’t benefit from this pool of talent too.

Considering the current demand for highly skilled workers in all corners of the industry, it is one we should support and tap into more often. With this in mind, Dario Schiavo looks at how the key stakeholders in the Italian new-build market are addressing the shrinking pool of skilled workers while preserving the legacy of the country’s tradition and innovation in the marine sector.

We also take a deep dive into the growth, or lack of, in the large multihull sector. Previous conversations had led us to suggest that the segment was on a rapid rise in popularity, however, the data points to the contrary. To understand why uptake has been so slow, what factors are to be considered when building one and how the segment is poised to develop over the next decade, we speak with multihull specialists Lateral Naval Architects , Echo Yachts and SHADOWCAT .

The Report also takes invaluable insight from Red Ensign Group with regard to their latest code updates. The code forms the bedrock of safe construction in the new-build sector, so, we take a detailed look at how the 2024 revisions will affect the industry, and what potential revisions lie on the horizon. There have been a lot of changes to brokerage processes in the new build sector too. The Camper & Nicholsons executives dissect how today’s brokers have to do much more than just bring cash to the table and then sign off, with clients now considered to be long-term assets rather than merely a one-time source of income.

With a growing emphasis on sustainable practices, shipyards are compelled to adapt. As ESG requirements escalate, there's a clear benefit for shipyards in reducing their environmental impacts and showcasing progress. It's imperative to address all facets of sustainability by integrating it into business operations to meet objectives.

As the 2030 deadline approaches and attention intensifies on the operational footprint of today’s superyacht fleet, Sustainability Editor Megan Hickling delves into the sustainability initiatives of new-build shipyards and evaluates their outcomes.

This thorough examination is complemented in the edition by insights from Superyacht Intelligence , which analyses the latest developments, trends, and forecasts in deliveries, engine manufacturers, and the GT effect, while also highlighting the growing influence and prospects of SYBAss in the new-build sector.

Submersible superyachts for billionaires: This Austrian company wants to build them

E ditor’s Note: Sign up for  Unlocking the World , CNN Travel’s weekly newsletter. Get the latest news in aviation, food and drink, where to stay and other travel developments.

There’s been a trend in recent years for billionaire basements – subterranean extensions to the homes of the rich and famous, where they can bunker down and live large.

Now an Austrian company wants to extend this opportunity for deep-dive delights to the world of superyachts, by building customized private submersibles that can descend 250 meters (820 feet) beneath the ocean surface and remain submerged for up to four weeks.

Migaloo has revealed its ambitious plans for what it claims will be the “world’s one and only private submersible superyacht,” offering “a not-yet-existing alternative to large privately owned surface vessels.”

Billionaires’ playground

This submarine, named M5, would measure 165.8 meters in length and 23 meters across at its widest point, with a range of around 15,000 kilometers and a speed of up to 20 knots when surfaced (or 12 knots when underwater). However, says Migaloo, “The wished dimensions of the submarine-yacht hybrid, the exterior styling and the interior design are up to the owners’ preferences.”

So, like any billionaires’ superyacht worth its salt, the default design includes a helipad, a swimming pool and spa, a gym, art gallery cinema, party area with DJ booth, along with plenty of spaces to lounge or dine. Optional extras include a hot air balloon and underwater shark-feeding station.

There are also sub-tenders that can be specified, so up to 12 guests can set out on smaller submarines for more water-based antics.

‘Private submersible fortress’

“Owners are looking for privacy, security and protection for themselves, their guests and their valuables,” says CEO Christian Gumpold on Migaloo’s website. Customized security systems will be provided by US partner SAFE, promising “beyond military grade protection” for what it’s calling a “private submersible fortress.”

What’s the price tag on this private water wonderland? Well, there is no specific project price tag, due to all those juicy customization options, but the widely reported estimate for the Migaloo M5 is about $2 billion for starters (and that’s before you consider maintenance).

Submarine dreams

The M5 uses proven technologies borrowed from existing motor yachts and submersibles, such as double-hull construction and multiple pressure hulls, which helps on the safety and feasibility fronts. Although the question still remains as to who is deep-pocketed enough to buy this submersible Bond villain lair.

It’s not the first attempt to create a luxury submarine. Aston Martin revealed plans for a $4 million concept vessel in 2017. And it’s not the first time Migaloo has hit headlines for floating its extraordinary visions. At the Monaco Yacht Show in 2015, it showcased plans for Kokomo Ailand , its 80-meter-tall private floating island (with waterfall) that you can sail.

So will the Migaloo M5 concept vessel sail happily into reality or sink without a trace? It’s hard to say, but there’s probably some time to start saving your pennies.

Joe Lewis’ $250 million superyacht, ranked among the world’s 25-most valuable, sets sail after he pays US fine

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club owner Joe Lewis

Joe Lewis’ superyacht is on the move again after spending most of the past year holed up in a Mediterranean port while the British billionaire faced insider-trading charges in the US.

His 322-foot (98-meter) Aviva — which he put up as collateral for bail —  has traveled more than 400 nautical miles from Malta to cities along Albania’s coast as well as the Greek island of Zakynthos since  he was sentenced  April 4 to three years probation, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

After departing Zakynthos earlier this week, the Tavistock Group founder’s yacht was near Kalamata in southern Greece on Thursday morning local time, the data show. It’s the most the roughly $250 million vessel has traveled in about seven months, though it’s unclear if Lewis is on board.

Lewis, 87, pledged his yacht along with his private jet to secure his release following his arrest in July. A few months later, Aviva docked until April 5 in the Maltese capital of Valletta, where it can cost as much as €750 ($800) a night to moor vessels that exceed 75 meters.

Lewis, who was scheduled to have eye surgery in London recently, was prohibited from setting foot on the yacht that has long served as part-residence, part-office while awaiting trial. He was only allowed on board after paying a $5 million fine after sentencing, which he settled soon after the verdict in Manhattan.

A representative for Lewis, who has a net worth of about $7.3 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, declined to comment.

Lewis, whose global empire includes five-star hotels, private lenders and enclaves for the wealthy, launched Aviva in 2017. It includes eight guest suites, a helipad, padel tennis court, spa and a cinema. It ranked among the world’s 25-most valuable superyachts shortly after its launch, alongside those owned by Middle Eastern royals.

The yacht has also displayed works from Lewis’ private art collection, which is valued at more than $1 billion and includes pieces by Picasso, Freud, Klimt and Degas.

Events that authorities say took place on the yacht were a key piece of evidence that prosecutors used against him.

At dinner one night in September 2019, the billionaire received favorable news about Mirati Therapeutics Inc., an oncology company where he was a major investor, leading him to pass along the tip to a host of people, including the pilots of his private jet, according to US regulators.

Those pilots — Bryan “Marty” Waugh and Patrick O’Connor — were also charged with trading on inside information. O’Connor pleaded guilty to securities fraud and conspiracy and is due to be sentenced in May, while Waugh is fighting the charges.

The Largest Top 100 Superyacht Launches of 2023

By Frances Flannagan

This year has seen an exceptional array of superyachts launched, from complex refits to technically advanced new builds. We take a look at six of the largest launches of the year, according to Superyachts.com’s Top 100 list of the largest yachts in the world.

Ranging from 90 to 145 metres in length, the five largest yachts launched in 2023 have certainly set the bar high for future launches. Three of the five largest yachts launched this year are Lürssen builds, as the German yard once again prevails as an esteemed industry leader. Freire Shipyard and Oceanco have also launched two exceptional vessels in 2023.

145m - LUMINANCE

Builder: Lürssen

LUMINANCE was launched in February 2023: a highly anticipated project marking Lürssen’s eighth largest build. Her exterior design has been penned by Espen Oeino, marking the thirtieth collaboration between the designer and the shipyard.

Her details have been kept tightly under wraps throughout her build process and following her launch, however she is said to have an internal volume of 9,000 GT and a beam of 20m, whilst bearing a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

According to Superyachts.com’s Top 100 list, LUMINANCE ranks as the 12th largest yacht in the world, marginally behind the Egyptian presidential yacht EL MAHROUSA which has an LOA of 145.7m.

140m+ - Project ALI BABA

Despite an unintentional launch earlier this month due to a technical fault at her dock, Lürssen once again stunned the industry with the unveiling of the 140m+ Project ALI BABA.

Whilst details of her build, design and specifications remain tightly under wraps, Project ALI BABA showcases a sleek, low grey profile, an elongated stretching bow, and two helipads. The industry had long awaited more news of ALI BABA’s build, as she was last seen in May 2022 during transport to begin her assembly. Following this unexpected launch and disruption, she is still on track to be delivered to her owner in 2024, recently moved to Lürssen’s Hamburg facilities for completion.

With her official length still yet to be confirmed, Project ALI BABA will likely sit 16th in the Superyachts.com Top 100 largest yachts in the world, just behind Lloyd Werft's SOLARIS.

In August, Lürssen launched its highly anticipated 122m JAG. She features an exterior design by Nuvolari Leanard: a sleek and sophisticated profile, with monochromatic black and white tones accented with splashes of red. Reymond Langton penned her interiors, and whilst they have not been revealed, we can only assume that they are just as eye-catching as her exterior design.

She can accommodate up to 20 guests across 11 staterooms with a crew of 40. She boasts exceptional space onboard, with a beam of 17.8m, making her a highly comfortable vessel.

JAG ranks as the 32nd largest yacht in the world according to the Superyachts.com Top 100 list.

114m - Project COSMOS

Project Cosmos was technically launched in March, known otherwise as Project 13759. Her first sighting was a highly exciting moment for the industry as, like LUMINANCE, little information has been revealed about the vessel.

She has an interior volume of around 6300 GT, a beam of 18m, and a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Notably, she is the first Lürssen superyacht to feature new fuel cell technology that significantly reduces emissions by avoiding greenhouse gases, contributing to a more sustainable superyacht future.

Her technical launch revealed that Project Cosmos features a large aft deck and swimming pool, alongside a cut-out that we can presume will house a tender.

According to Superyachts.com’s Top 100 listings, Project Cosmos ranks as the 45th largest yacht in the world.

112m - RENAISSANCE

Builder: Freire Shipyard

RENAISSANCE was launched this year as Freire Shipyard’s new flagship motor yacht and the largest yacht ever to be built in Spain. Bannenberg & Rowell oversaw her exterior and interior design, of which her interiors boast neutral colours, tactile furnishings and highly usable spaces.

She has six decks and can accommodate 36 passengers in 19 luxurious cabins. RENAISSANCE features a double-height dining saloon, a beach club and al fresco dining opportunities on four of the decks. She promises the ultimate relaxation retreat, with stunning views and a range of treatment rooms and salons, as well as an expansive beach club showcasing the latest water toys.

Currently, she is the most expensive yacht on the charter market, with a starting price of three million euros a week in low season with Burgess. RENAISSANCE sits just behind Project Cosmos on the Top 100 list, ranking as the 47th largest yacht in the world.

105m - 1050H

Builder: Oceanco

Superyacht standards were set very early on in 2023 with the launch of Oceanco’s 1050H on the 10th of January. She was one of the industry’s most closely-guarded secrets: neither a newbuild, refit, or conversion, representing a fundamental rebuild of unprecedented scale.

1050H is a heritage superyacht that has been completely transformed: the first vessel that has been recreated to such an extent that no single element remains the same. She has a modern exterior aesthetic, with an entirely new superstructure, and with interiors penned by Reymond Langton Design.

The Dutch yard commented: ‘At a time when yachting is increasingly mindful of the impact on the planet, bringing an existing superyacht up to date with contemporary standards can have as much, if not more, of a positive effect as a sustainable new build.’ This highlights the importance placed on sustainability, showing 1050H to be an exceptional vessel beyond aesthetics and performance.

1050H ranks at 63rd on the Superyachts.com Top 100 list.

2023 has been a remarkable year for superyacht launches, in particular with the emphasis placed on sustainability and future-proof design. These five vessels set the benchmark not only for 2024 launches, but for future yachts in general, as they all exude not only exceptional aesthetics and amenities but highly complex and innovative technical features.

"At a time when yachting is increasingly mindful of impact on the planet, bringing an existing superyacht up to date with contemporary standards can have as much, if not more, of a positive effect as a sustainable new build." Oceanco Shipyard

West Ham vs Liverpool LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

West Ham vs Liverpool - LIVE!

Jurgen Klopp 's long Liverpool farewell is in danger of turning sour after a touchline row with Mohamed Salah during a 2-2 draw at West Ham which hammered another dent into their fading title hopes.

Salah, surprisingly left out of the starting line-up, was summoned from the bench by Klopp in the 79th minute after Michail Antonio equalised for West Ham. The Egypt striker had a heated exchange with his manager with fellow substitute Darwin Nunez eventually stepping in to placate his team-mate.

It was an ugly end to another poor display from Liverpool, who could have at least temporarily moved level with leaders Arsenal with a victory. They had come from a goal down, - a Jarrod Bowen header - to lead 2-1 thanks to Andy Robertson's snap-shot and a comical West Ham own goal. But Antonio's header meant two more dropped points and Klopp's final season in charge still fizzling out.

You’d have to think so.

They need Arsenal and Manchester City to slip up multiple times in the final weeks of the season.

FT: West Ham 2-2 Liverpool

Free-kick West Ham, Antonio chests it down and his effort is blocked, flying behind for a corner.

No time to take it - there’s the full-time whistle.

Liverpool’s title hopes are over. They are stumbling to the finish line.

West Ham 2-2 Liverpool

90+3 mins: All very messy at the moment - neither side able to really build late pressure.

Zouma takes no chances as Salah closes him down, slices the ball out of play.

90 mins: Five minutes added on.

Liverpool pushing for a winner - they look the more likely.

89 mins: Antonio works hard and wins a corner for the hosts. Ward-Prowse to take.

Whipped in right on top of Alisson, he punches it clear and Liverpool can break.

Salah can’t pick out Nunez, comes to Elliott though. Smacks an effort off the bar from 30 yards out!

Salah running hot...

Fair to say Klopp and Salah aren’t best friends at the moment.

84 mins : Lovely Liverpool move, Salah plays the ball across the face of goal and Coufal flies in to turn it behind for a corner.

Superb defending, Nunez was waiting for a tap-in.

A goal-kick is given though, officials just assumed Nunez missed from a couple of yards. No comment.

Dom Smith at the London Stadium

What a goal that was from West Ham.

Bowen’s ball was inch-perfect, Antonio’s leap monstrous, and the result: parity once more for the home side.

81 mins: Robertson continues to fly up and down that left wing. Cross is charged down, corner.

West Ham deal with it well, but they are dropping deeper again. Liverpool taking charge once more.

79 mins: A triple change from Klopp.

Salah, Nunez and Gomez are on, with Diaz, Endo and Alexander-Arnold the three to make way.

Liverpool agree terms with Feyenoord for Arne Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp

Arne slot is expected to become liverpool's next manager after the premier league club reached an agreement in principle on friday to bring him from feyenoord..

Listen to Story

Arne Slot

  • Arne Slot is expected to become Liverpool's next manager
  • Arne Slot has been managing Feyenoord since July 2021
  • Slot's appointment follows a period of speculation and anticipation

Liverpool have successfully negotiated terms with Feyenoord for the transfer of their manager, Arne Slot, to take over as the new head coach at Anfield. This agreement comes as Jurgen Klopp, the current Liverpool manager, prepares to step down at the end of the 2023-24 season after a notable tenure. Arne Slot, who has been managing Feyenoord since July 2021, has agreed to a compensation package that allows him to move to Liverpool. The deal reportedly involves a payment of up to £9.4 million (approximately €10.9 million), which includes both a base fee and potential add-ons. This financial arrangement compensates Feyenoord for the remaining two years of Slot's contract with the Dutch club.

Slot's appointment follows a period of speculation and anticipation about who would succeed Klopp. Known for his tactical acumen and the impressive performance of his teams, Slot has garnered respect in the football community. His leadership took Feyenoord to significant achievements, including an Eredivisie title and a runner-up finish in the Europa Conference League. The transition is seen as a strategic move by Liverpool to maintain their competitive edge in both domestic and international arenas. Slot's philosophy and style of play are expected to align well with Liverpool's dynamic approach to football. Moreover, Klopp himself has spoken highly of Slot, noting his abilities and expressing confidence in his suitability as a successor.

The outgoing Liverpool manager said on Friday: "Obviously now I even help by not finishing on a high, it looks like, so there is space for improvement. It is a great job, a great team, with fantastic people. I am not involved in the process, just to clarify, but if he is the one then I like that he really wants the job. I like the way his team plays football and all the things I hear about him is he's a good guy. Good coach, good guy. I'm looking forward for the club if he is the man."

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp hails potential successor Arne Slot – video

The Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp , has praised his potential replacement, Arne Slot, as the Dutchman closes on a move to the Premier League. Slot has emerged as the frontrunner for the job with his track record of improving young talent, success on a relatively modest budget, European experience and a style of play that is not a dramatic departure from Klopp’s, all appealing to Anfield’s recruitment team. Speaking before his side's trip to West Ham on Saturday, Klopp described Arne as a 'good coach' and a 'good guy', while also praising his style of football.
