The kit is very affordable and can be assembled in a couple of weekends with a minimum of tools. The Victoria has been adopted as a valid racing class by the American Model Yachting Association and the Canadian Radio Yachting Association and can be easily customized to greatly improve the sailing characteristics. The Victoria hull is made of pre-molded PVC, is just under 32 inches in length, is over 4 foot tall and weighs a little over 4 1/2 pounds. For recreational use, an inexpensive 2 channel radio control package designed for surface use is all that is required to complete your Victoria sailing yacht. For the advanced sailor, the 2.4gHz Spektrum radio package would be a welcome addition to the Victoria kit. For added excitement, the Victoria can be upgraded to a racing sailboat with the addition of more efficient sails and a stronger servo to control the sail position. The Victoria Model Shipbuilding Society was formed in 1978 to encourage the hobby of model boatbuilding in all its various forms. We have around 60 members. Victoria is one of very few cities in the world to have a dedicated model boat pond. That’s Harrison Pond on Dallas Road. It was built by the city in 1955 at a spot that used to catch the wind and with a pavement all round so the sailors could catch the boats. Those were the days before radio control and modern electric motors. It’s still open all year round every day for anyone who wants to put a model boat into the water. Nowadays radio control is comparatively cheap and the performance of electric motors and batteries is amazing. The pond is now surrounded by trees and catches very little of the sea breezes. But most Sunday mornings throughout the year, you’ll find some of our members there, with a wide variety of models both power and sail, enjoying the hobby and always ready to show off and talk about their models. And on Wednesday mornings we also gather as the Langford Lake Navy, at Langford Lake Beach Park. We also have a general meeting on the second Thursday of each month. Keep an eye on the latest edition of the Binnacle, (our monthly newsletter), on this website to find us when we are doing something special.  | | | | | | but i've used non water proof servo's as well. Hitech was my brand of choice I had a programmer so I could customize the servo rotation and i also used a I also used a spectrum dx6i to further customize rotation.
to be honest most folks did not use the factory wooden servo box when building the victoria, and from the factory with the stock sails and stock rigging, it really wasn't the best sailing boat. it was very prone to spinning out and stalling in all but the lightest of wind.
I would also be a bit worried, as it looks like the hull hasn't been painted. which means its susceptible the cracking from UV damage. The plastic shroud attachment points where just CA'd in place and have been known to break off. can easily be replace with small brass or stainless screw eyes.
check for cracks around the top of the keel where it insets into the hull that area was also know for cracking which is why reinforcement was recommended from most of the builders.
Okanangan model sailboat used to have a build guide with whats was called the Longbow rigging but most folks end up using a skyshark tapered mast from goodwinds and ditching the original heavy spars.
Be careful move slow. Its got the potential to be a great sailing little boat. | | | | | | | | | | |

Big Boats Rule! If 150 oz-in (11 kg-cm) of torque works in a Vic, these digital servos are super cheap and worth a try. The 270 degree sweep versions will give about 135 degrees sweep with a non modified traditional signal (1000-2000ms), or about 160 degrees if you can use 120% endpoint settings.
