Groupe Beneteau has signed an agreement with Solaris to sell the CNB Yacht Builders brand to the Italian yard. In line with the ‘Let’s Go Beyond!’ strategic plan announced last year, Groupe Beneteau aims to reduce its portfolio of boat-building brands from 12 to eight: Beneteau, Jeanneau, Prestige, Lagoon, Four Winns, Wellcraft, Delphia and Excess. CNB is the first brand to be sold since the announcement of the strategy.

Over the past two years, Groupe Beneteau had moved production of CNB sailing yachts from the brand’s original site at Construction Navale Bordeaux (CNB) in the west of France to Monfalcone in the northeast of Italy, where the group owns a facility that builds yachts by Monte Carlo Yachts and bigger models from other brands such as Beneteau’s Grand Trawler 62.

The CNB yachts currently being built and the CNB 66 and CNB 76 models sold in 2021 will continue to be produced in Monfalcone. From 2022, production of CNB yachts will gradually transition to the Solaris site, which is around 20 km from Monfalcone. Vincent Arnaud, CNB’s Brand Director, will pursue his career with CNB alongside Solaris.

According to Groupe Beneteau: “By joining Solaris, CNB’s future will be developed within a smaller, more responsive structure. Its facilities are calibrated for producing small series with high levels of customisation and quality for each boat.”

This operation will not have any impact on the jobs previously linked to designing and building the CNB units within Groupe Beneteau. In both Bordeaux and Monfalcone, the employees will continue working on the other boat models offered by Groupe Beneteau’s brands. www.beneteau-group.com www.cnb-yachts.com www.solarisyachts.com

CNB yacht builders joins Solaris Yachts breathing life to the first worldwide excellence yard to build sailing yachts from 40 to 110 feet. These two market-leading brands combined have 80 years of experience. They have decided to pool their heritage of knowledge to focus on satisfying all demanding enthusiasts who love to sail in the Med or around the world, as a couple or with a crew. Since 1974, Solaris Yachts has been setting new standards in the performance cruiser sector. Solaris Yachts’ large and powerful hulls match with elegant, classic and timeless layouts. They are modern and fast sailing boats for sailing and racing enthusiasts who seek pleasure above all from personally steering their boat. Since being founded more than 30 years ago, CNB yacht builders has built a world-renowned position for creating one-off models, then adapting this know-how for semi-custom yachts. A market leader with the CNB 76 and CNB 66, CNB yacht builders is firmly focused on blue water sailing. Combining seaworthiness and unique style, the panoramic roof created by Philippe Briand has become the yard’s iconic signature. Moving forward, the synergies between these two brands will benefit the development of new models, while respecting each one’s identity. Illustrating this, the CNB 8X will be unveiled in a few weeks’ time, pioneering a new age for CNB yacht builders. By joining Solaris, CNB yachts’ future will be developed within a smaller, more responsive structure, adapted to the demands of this exclusive market. Its facilities are calibrated for producing small series with high levels of customization and quality for each yacht. A transition period will run through to 2022 so as to facilitate future deliveries, while enabling Solaris to gradually integrate production. For the boats currently being built, their production will continue to be based in Monfalcone, along with all the future CNB 66 and CNB 76 units sold in 2021. There are no changes to the contractual relationship and these boats will benefit from the same conditions as the other CNB units already delivered. From 2022, CNB 66 and CNB 76 production will gradually transition to the Solaris site, which is around 20 km from Monfalcone. These two complementary brands, driven by the same yard, will continue to set their own course.

CNB 78 : How Solaris is redefining the CNB luxury brand

Jochen Rieker

 ·  24.11.2023

A superyacht in terms of format and standards, but a boat for owners who like to sail themselves - that's the new CNB 78, the first boat since the brand was taken over by Solaris two years ago

Those whose enthusiasm for boats does not end at the limit of the overdraft facility on their current account can now read on unmolested. For those who consider superyachts to be blasphemy, here is a first and final warning: this text, and even more so the picture gallery, is likely to provoke severe forms of social envy. Unfortunately, the price list for the CNB 78 starts at 3.44 million euros.

And without VAT, without sails, without carbon fibre rigging, without a performance keel, without a hydraulically extendable gangway and also without a tender.

In the league of luxurious long-distance yachts, the snobbish, but here quite apt saying applies that whoever asks about the price first will almost certainly not be able to afford the fun.

Even the dinghy - which sounds a little disrespectful in view of the jet propulsion and the hull colour specially matched to the mother ship - is not far off the equivalent value of the author's second-hand eleven-metre boat, which in turn corresponds roughly to the average value of the yachts of all YACHT readers who have bought second-hand. However, the dinghy is also suitable for water skiing.

The CNB 78 is built in series

So let's get rid of the feelings of deficit that can nowadays, strictly speaking, already set in with a Bavaria C46 or a Hanse 460, for which you can easily get a small house outside the metropolitan regions. If you can manage that, the CNB 78 is easy to love - even if you look closely, even in the furthest corners.

  • Baltic 111 "Raven": Luxury cruiser achieves 29 knots at the first attempt with foils

Unlike under the aegis of the Beneteau Group, which had made the luxury brand big but sold it to Solaris two years ago, the successor to the highly successful 76 is no longer built in a semi-industrialised way, but "traditionally". This means that large modules with their own floor seats are not prefabricated and glued in. Instead, the CNB 78 is built in series: first the body, floor assembly and bulkheads, then the interior is completed.

This change is better suited to semi-custom models, where the owners want their individual wishes to be taken into account within predefined layouts. And it goes hand in hand with even greater solidity and strength.

The great art of superyachts: Sweeping design can convince

Despite the wide saloon, the new CNB 78 sails with remarkable torsional rigidity and virtually no creaking or quiet crackling. When you move from the cockpit to below deck on the open sea, you feel like you are in a different, acoustically isolated world.

The highlight is that you never lose touch with the sea. On the contrary: the CNB 78 offers an almost unrestricted all-round view from its raised "living room". The interior created by designer Jean-Marc Viaton is particularly successful: the side windows are flush with the running decks at the bottom. This extends the space outwards, so to speak. Equally impressive is the generously glazed companionway, which offers a wide visual axis to the aft.

Rounded edges are a visual element that runs through the entire boat. They can be found in the glass sliding door that closes off the companionway, as well as in the helmsman's seats, the work surface in the galley or the solid wood bar screen in front of which the owner's berth is located. Even in the longitudinal bulkhead to the starboard guest cabin, the kink is softly rounded, and the veneer follows the curve without any recognisable bumps. Great art!

How does the new CNB 78 sail?

The gallery gives an idea of what else the CNB 78 has to offer. The wow factor of the Briand design is of course even more stunning in the flesh. Especially as the boat can also inspire under sail.

For its almost 50 tonnes, it has a fine feel for the rudder and can be guided precisely along the wind edge. From eight knots true wind speed you no longer need the almost inaudible diesel, from ten knots the CNB really starts to be fun. And from 15 knots, you never want to be anywhere else.

How Much Do Superyachts Cost?

who owns cnb yachts

When it comes to superyachts, the sky is the limit when it comes to cost.

These luxury vessels come with hefty price tags that can range from anywhere between $30 million to over $400 million.

So, if youre in the market for a superyacht, youre looking at an investment that could easily break the bank.

The cost of a superyacht is driven by a variety of factors, including size, amenities, and customization.

Generally, the larger the yacht, the more expensive it will be.

Superyachts typically range in size from 100 feet to over 200 feet, and they can be as wide as 40 feet.

The bigger the yacht, the more luxurious features and amenities it will have.

Amenities also play a significant role in the cost of a superyacht.

While some owners prefer to keep their yachts out of the public eye, others have made headlines with their extensive amenities.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, the sky is the limit when it comes to customizing a superyacht.

The more amenities a superyacht has, the more expensive it will be.

Finally, customization is another major factor that will drive up the cost of a superyacht.

Many luxury vessels have custom-designed interiors that are tailored to the owners tastes.

From custom furniture and artwork to lighting and audio systems, the cost of a superyacht can quickly escalate depending on the level of customization.

In short, the cost of a superyacht can vary widely depending on its size, amenities, and customization.

While some may be able to get away with spending a few million dollars, others may end up spending hundreds of millions of dollars on their dream yacht.

No matter what your budget is, its important to do your research and find out exactly what youre getting for your money before signing on the dotted line.

Keeping Superyachts Out of the Public Eye

When it comes to owning a superyacht, some owners prefer to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

Understandably, these individuals are concerned with privacy and discretion, and therefore tend to take measures to ensure their yachts are not visible to outsiders.

For instance, some superyacht owners opt to keep their vessels in private marinas, away from the public areas of larger ports.

Additionally, some yacht owners may choose to hire security guards to patrol and protect their vessels while they are moored or sailing.

In addition to physical security, some superyacht owners also use technology to keep their vessels out of the public eye.

For example, a yacht owner may choose to install a satellite-based communications system that allows them to keep their vessel completely off-radar.

This system works by bouncing signals off satellites rather than transmitting them, making it virtually impossible for anyone to track the yachts movements.

Finally, some superyacht owners also choose to limit the number of people who have access to their vessels.

For instance, the owner may only allow family members and close friends to board the yacht.

Additionally, the owner may choose to employ a limited number of staff to help maintain the vessel and keep it running smoothly.

These individuals may be required to sign non-disclosure agreements to ensure they do not disclose any information about the yacht or its owner.

Overall, while some superyacht owners may choose to keep their vessels out of the public eye, there are still plenty of other ways to show off the opulence associated with owning a superyacht.

From swimming pools and helicopter pads to on-board cinemas and spas, there are many luxurious amenities that can make a superyacht the envy of any jet setter.

Final Thoughts

Superyachts are a symbol of luxury and status, and the list of yacht owners reads like a who’s who of billionaires.

From the Emir of Qatar’s world-record breaking $400 million yacht to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s vessel with a helicopter pad and on-board spa, the amenities of these luxury vessels are truly stunning.

With prices ranging from $30 million to over $400 million, owning a superyacht is an expensive endeavor.

Whether you’re looking to purchase one or just curious to learn more about the owners and their amenities, this guide will provide you with all the information you need to stay up to date with the superyacht scene.

Steward Health Care under federal investigation for fraud and corruption, sources tell CBS News

By Pat Milton , Michael Kaplan

Updated on: July 11, 2024 / 4:48 PM EDT / CBS News

CBS News has learned federal authorities in Boston have opened a criminal investigation into Steward Health Care, a company that owns dozens of hospitals nationwide, including nine in Massachusetts, according to two people familiar with the matter. Steward, which is based in Dallas, recently filed for bankruptcy .

Federal prosecutors at the U.S. Attorney's office in Boston are investigating Steward Health Care based on various allegations including fraud and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, two people familiar with the matter said. The law prohibits U.S. citizens and entities from engaging in corrupt activities when operating overseas.

In addition to its U.S. properties, Steward was tapped by the government in Malta to run three state-owned hospitals. That deal is now at the center of a criminal corruption probe  playing out in the island nation. Neither Steward nor its executives have been charged in connection to the matter in Malta.

The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to CBS News' request for comment.

Reached Thursday, a spokesperson for Steward had no comment.

Steward filed for bankruptcy reorganization in May and is exploring plans to sell all of its hospitals. Bids for the Massachusetts facilities, which have remained opened during the bankruptcy, are due on Monday.

Sen. Edward J. Markey, a Democrat from Massachusetts, issued a statement Thursday calling Steward "just the latest example of corporate greed endangering our health system."

"Steward must be investigated, and I hope the company and the corporate executives who facilitated Steward's actions face consequences that reflect the lives, livelihoods, safety, and security that they stole from communities," he said.

The company has been a focus of a year-and-a-half-long CBS News investigation  documenting how private equity and other investor groups have siphoned hundreds of millions of dollars from community hospitals with devastating public health consequences .

Records reviewed by CBS News showed Steward hospitals around the country left a trail of unpaid bills, at times risking a shortage of potentially life-saving supplies.

The Department of Health in Massachusetts opened an investigation after a woman died after giving birth at a Steward hospital in Boston last October. A complaint made by healthcare workers at the facility, obtained by CBS News, indicates a medical device that might have saved her life had been repossessed by the manufacturer weeks earlier because Steward owed about $2.5 million in unpaid bills.

Steward has become synonymous with the perils of private equity investment in health care. The company started buying up Massachusetts hospitals in 2010, with hundreds of millions of dollars in backing from private equity giant Cerberus .

Cerberus shed its stake in Steward by January 2021, after making an $800 million profit in a decade, according to a report from Bloomberg . Financial records show Steward has also sold off more than $1 billion of its hospitals' land and buildings since 2016 to Medical Properties Trust, which has made a business of buying up hospital real estate from private equity investors.

A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2021 shows Steward's owners also paid themselves millions in dividends. Around the same time, Steward CEO Ralph de la Torre acquired a 190-foot yacht estimated to be worth $40 million.

"They've taken money away from these hospitals that provide needed care and they're using that money to line their own pockets." Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey told CBS News in February. "I'm disgusted. It's selfish. It's greed."

The company previously told CBS News that executives always put patients first and said they "deny that any other considerations were placed ahead of that guiding principle." The company spokesperson said Steward "has actively and meaningfully invested" in its hospital system since its formation, including in Massachusetts, where it took over hospitals that were "failing" and "about to close."

"Steward Health Care has done everything in its power to operate successfully in a highly challenging health care environment," de la Torre said in a company statement in May.

10 of the most impressive superyachts owned by billionaires

From a sailing yacht owned by a russian billionaire industrialist to the luxury launch of the patek philippe ceo, here are the best billionaire-owned boats on the water….

Words: Jonathan Wells

There’s something about billionaires and big boats . Whether they’re superyachts or megayachts, men with money love to splash out on these sizeable sea-going giants. And that all began in 1954 — with the big dreams of Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.

Onassis, keen to keep his luxury lifestyle afloat when at sea, bought Canadian anti-submarine frigate HMCS Stormont after World War II. He spent millions turning it into an opulent super yacht, named it after his daughter — and the Christina O kicked off a trend among tycoons. To this day, the world’s richest men remain locked in an arms race to build the biggest, fastest, most impressive superyacht of all. Here are 10 of our favourites…

  • Megayachts have become a status symbol for the richest of the rich.
  • In recent years, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg have splurged on enormous boats.
  • These are the biggest yachts owned by tech billionaires.

The average Joe celebrating a personal renaissance after, say, the end of a long-term relationship or when approaching a fresh decade might commemorate it with an ankle tattoo or a sports car. But if you're a billionaire, you may instead spend hundreds of millions on a yacht .

A few years after he and his wife divorced, Jeff Bezos shelled out on a megayacht. Last year, Bezos debuted the 127-meter vessel "Koru," a Māori symbol that signifies a fresh start — perhaps referring to that with his fiancée Lauren Sanchez.

Earlier this year, just before his 40th birthday, Mark Zuckerberg became the rumored owner of a yacht originally built for a Russian oligarch.

Superyachts have increasingly become ultrawealthy status symbols , providing highly secluded leisure and networking sites. They are — even more so than real estate — the single most expensive asset you can own.

"It's a bit of a celebration of your success in life, of wealth," Giovanna Vitelli, the chair of the Azimut Benetti Group, the world's biggest producer of superyachts, told Business Insider.

While many tech billionaires have bought yachts, the richest of the rich, like Bezos, Zuckerberg, and Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison, have gone bigger. Their boats are virtual palaces at sea, decked with amenities like gyms, spas, pools, nightclubs, and movie theaters.

A look at these megayachts — broadly defined as over 70 meters long, mostly custom-built, and often costing nine figures — offers a glimpse into how the .00001% lives. It's something few others will ever get to experience. Even chartering a yacht of this size for a week typically costs upwards of $1 million.

One major thing that hundreds of millions of dollars can buy is privacy. There are likely yachts that have not been publicly recorded or registered — for example, Evan Spiegel is rumored to own the 94-meter megayacht Bliss. In an industry ruled by discretion , deciphering who owns what is typically an exercise in stringing together many clues.

Here are the largest yachts owned by tech billionaires, listed in order of length.

Jeff Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, says she wasn't the inspiration for the figurehead of a woman on the Amazon founder's yacht, Koru, seen at left, with its support vessel, Abeona, seen at right. <a>Robino Salvatore/GC Images</a>

Jeff Bezos: Koru and Abeona

Amazon founder Bezos' $500 million megayacht, the 127-meter Koru, made a splash last year as she crisscrossed the Mediterranean in her first summer at sea, with her 75-meter support vessel Abeona in tow.

The sailing yacht, which is hard to miss thanks to her massive size and unique design, was host to Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez's famous friends . The couple held an engagement party on board, which reportedly drew guests including Bill Gates, Ari Emanuel, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Just a week later, they were seen on the streets of Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, and Usher.

Even before her completion, Koru made headlines. She drew the ire of some Dutch people, who vowed to hurl eggs after she was announced a historic bridge in Rotterdam might be taken apart to allow the Oceanco boat through. Luckily, the shipyard made alternative plans, and an egg crisis was averted.

Among yacht world insiders , Koru is widely praised for her craftsmanship.

"I heard back in 2018 or something that somebody had ordered a classic sailing yacht," one superyacht expert told BI. "You order 125 meters, that's not really going to be classic. But it is. I think it's pretty cool."

Aerial shots of the yacht seem to show a pool on its main deck and a helipad. <a>Ruben Griffioen/SuperYachtTimes</a>

Mark Zuckerberg: Launchpad

Earlier this year, the yacht world was rife with rumors that Zuckerberg purchased Launchpad, a 118-meter superyacht originally designed for a sanctioned Russian businessman.

The ship made her maiden voyage in March, going from Gibraltar to St. Maarten and mooring in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Little is known about her interior, but photos show a large swimming pool and helipad. Her price, too, has been kept under wraps but is said to be nine figures.

Eric Schmidt: Whisper

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt made waves last year when he agreed to buy the Alfa Nero , the yacht of a sanctioned Russian oligarch, for $67 million in an auction conducted by Antigua and Barbuda. But he backed out of the deal following legal issues over her true owner. He quietly purchased Kismet instead. The 95-meter-long Lürssen-built boat was formerly owned by the Jacksonville Jaguar's billionaire owner Shahid Khan . Schmidt renamed her Whisper.

The ship can fit 12 guests and a crew of 28, according to Moran Yacht & Ship, which oversaw her construction. She features a master deck with a private jacuzzi, full-service spa, lap pool, movie theater, and outdoor fireplace.

While her final sale price was not public, she was listed for 149 million euros (about $161 million at current exchange rates), and at a charity auction in January, one week aboard the ship went for $2.4 million, according to industry outlet Yacht Charter Fleet.

The Eos, owned by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, is a yacht-season staple. <a>Horacio Villalobos / Getty Images</a>

Barry Diller: Eos

Barry Diller , the chairman of digital media company IAC, co-owns the megayacht Eos with his wife, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg , who is immortalized by a figurehead sculpture by Anh Duong.

One of the largest private sailing yachts in the world, the three-masted Lürssen schooner measures 93 meters long. She took three years to be built before being delivered to Diller in 2009, and since then, little has come to light about her interior and features.

The power couple has hosted many celebrities on the Eos, which spends her summers crisscrossing the Mediterranean and New Year ' s Eve in St. Barts . Over the years, guests have included Oprah Winfrey, Emma Thompson, Anderson Cooper, and Bezos, leading some to believe she provided inspiration for his Koru.

Jim Clark: Athena

Netscape founder Jim Clark purchased the 90-meter sailing yacht Athena in 2004.

"I could easily have built a 50- or 60-meter motor yacht that would have had the same space as Athena, but I was never really interested in building a motor yacht," he told Boat International in 2016. "To my eye, she's one of the most gorgeous large sailing yachts, maybe the most gorgeous large sailing yacht in the world."

Athena has room for 10 guests and 21 crewmembers, and the only change Clark says he'd make in her design is adding more space for his kids.

"If I was forced to change something, I would convert the office on the lower deck into a children's room," he said.

The former Stanford professor tried to sell her at various points — listing her for $95 million in 2012 , $69 million in 2016, and $59 million in 2017 — but she has yet to change hands.

He purchased his current boat, Musashi, in 2011 for a reported $160 million from custom-yacht giant Feadship.

Carlos Alcaraz Accepted the Wimbledon Trophy Wearing a Stunning Rolex Daytona

who owns cnb yachts

Defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets to win his second Wimbledon title, 21-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz claimed his prize while wearing a watch that most of us would consider a worthy prize unto itself. Indeed, his Rolex Cosmograph Daytona , ref. 116518LN-0076, is no “standard” Daytona (if there even is such a thing). Rather, it features a yellow-gold case paired with a gray meteorite dial. This is the second time he’s worn it while celebrating a Wimbledon victory against Djokovic…perhaps it’s a grass court lucky charm?

Released in 2021, this reference is every bit the sporty chronograph that Rolex has been making for sixty-plus years, albeit in an elevated, precious-metal outfit: Housed in a 40mm 18K yellow gold case, it’s got a screw-down caseback, screw-down pushers, and a screw-down Triplock crown for increased water resistance, plus a scratch-resistant black Cerachrom bezel with an engraved yellow gold tachymeter scale.

Carlos Alcaraz of Spain kisses the Gentlemen's Singles Trophy following victory against Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the...

The star of the show, however, is a wildly cool gray meteorite dial with contrasting black subdials, applied yellow gold indices with Chromalight lume, and a matching yellow gold baton handset. Inside beats the Rolex caliber 4130 automatic movement with 72 hours of power reserve, and the watch comes paired with Rolex’s famed rubber Oysterflex bracelet—a cool touch that lends a bit of sportiness to an otherwise luxury-centric package.

At Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023 , Rolex discontinued the ref. 116518LN-0076 (along with other meteorite-dial Daytonas) after just two years in the catalog, sending prices on the secondary market skyrocketing well past the roughly $40,000 retail price tag and into the $80 to $90 thousand range. These days, if you want a space-rock Rollie, you either have to shell out big bucks for one from a pre-owned watch dealer (including those participating in Rolex’s own CPO program ), or wait with bated breath until next spring and hope that the Crown sees fit to answer your prayers.

As a friend of the brand, Alcaraz owns and wears several of Rolex’s watches, from the meteorite Daytona to a black-dial Daytona ref. 116500LN to the Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium . Of course, he’s in excellent company—fellow superstar players Roger Federer , Jannik Sinner , Coco Gauff , and others are also Rolex endorsers and are frequently spotted in knockout watches.

At just 21 years old, Alcaraz’s athletic and horological futures both look bright.

Deck design is highly functional and the deck house is seamlessly integrated into the lines of the hull.

The clean shapes of the hull and deck make the CNB 76 a yacht that will last over time. Its modern waterlines made it possible to design a hull with a double rudder.
