Lucas Urruty Officer of the Watch (OOW) "I started yachting 7 years ago, from not knowing the industry at all to getting my first OOW position last year. I remember in the first stages of my training I had nobody to guide me on how or in what order or priority to do my modules. I followed the yacht route, and up until now I have always gone back to Yotspot in my career to see what requirements, sea time and courses I need and in what order as a reference. I have booked at least 4 of my modules through Yotspot and even got my current job thanks to the site. It has changed the game in our industry regarding crew, training and so much more, highly recommend! "
Liubov Chunikhovska Ex Chief Stewardess (MY Luna, 100m) "If you're looking for a job or recruiting crew I personally think that Yotspot is the best service in the industry. It basically has everything you need in one place. Yotspot has been crucial to work with professionals and provides a high-level of support. Thank you Yotspot Team and wishing you inspiration to keep going with new ideas along with success!"
Jo Stepien Stewardess/ Masseuse (MY New Secret, 75m) "I have been using Yotspot to find new interesting opportunities since the beginning of my yachting career. I have chosen to look on this platform because it offers full spectrum of options that you want to include in your search such as temporary or rotational position. I haven't seen it on any other yacht job search site and I always found it super useful to specify your search like that and look for the best option for me. Yotspot is a time saver. I have found my current job on it and I am very grateful for that. I will definitely recommend it to any yachtie to create a profile and search for his or her dream job on Yotspot as it's definitely somewhere there!"

Adam Handyside Chief Officer/ Relief Captain (MY Madame GU, 99m) "Madame Gu finds the Yotspot site a very effective way of reducing crew placement costs. There appears to be an increasing number of crew who are using it today. The site can be accessed 24hrs a day 7 days a week. The more it's used the more cost effective it becomes. Most traditional Crew Recruitment companies have no such concessions. Yotspot is our first stop when recruiting"
Brooke Holt Crew Coordinator (Sea Shepherd Conservation Society) "Yotspot is super useful as it is available 24/7. The fact that candidates are ranked from most suitable to the role, to least makes it easier to sort the square pegs for the round holes! Each job receives an excellent response rate with often more than one ideal candidate to deliberate over. Over the last three years, we have recruited over 25 crew from Yotspot, all of which have been wonderful additions to the crew. I would certainly recommend anyone needing to hire crew to use the Yotspot service as the value for money is second to none. I can post with confidence everytime. "
Marc Micheletti Captain (MY Eileen, 50m) "I have been using Yotspot since its early inception and I have to say that I keep being very impressed by its simplicity and effectiveness. Not only is it incredibly cost effective, the simplicity of posting a position and looking for crew is amazing. I have also used it myself for looking for employment and it also works really well from an Employee perspective. I am a big fan, keep up the good work Yotspot, you have my full support"

chief stewardess, i first spoke to jacob from bespoke crew in my first few weeks of dock walking near antibes. the first call was extremely helpful; and he took an interest in my own background, qualifications, and experience. we then discussed the position i applied for in great detail. i am now secure in that role we discussed and after five months in i couldn't be happier with the yacht i am on, and the crew i am with., james lashmar - pt/ deckhand, it has been a great experience dealing with bespoke. excellent communication and a fast turnaround from the initial discussion to being placed on the yacht i am on now., euan ratley - deckhand, it was great dealing with jacob, one of the better agencies out there, tom riley - avit, claire provided such amazing support when looking for a new role. she really took the time to listen to both my previous experience and what i was looking for in the future to find the ideal position. claire’s help enabled me to make the transition from lead service to chief stewardess. i’d absolutely recommend bespoke crew to anyone in the industry., bonnie mitchell – chief stewardess, after working closely with bespoke crew over the past 3 seasons for permanent and temporary crew placement, they have become our go-to agent for crew. we have been highly satisfied with bespoke’s high caliber of service, which has been very professional yet personable. we have found they genuinely listen to and understand the requirements expressed for the crew sought and deliver only highly suitable candidates that meet the specific experience level, necessary skillset, and personal demeanor desired., brianna stenhouse - chief stewardess, i had a fantastic experience working with frankie. she found my cv, reached out to me, and i was successful in landing the first role she presented me with, which she ensured met my needs. she is communicative, friendly, and professional; most importantly, in a recruiter-candidate relationship, she comes across as very honest. when i am ready for my next opportunity, and if i take on any recruitment on board, i know who to call. i look forward to working with frankie again., helena sanguinetti - purser, i had a great experience with claire from bespoke crew she’s super helpful, always checks-in, and answers all of my questions. she helped me land my new role on an amazing yacht with great opportunities. i’m so happy for all of the support, i would love to work together with her again in the future would really recommend bespoke crew., linn sundqvist - stewardess, this is the first crew agent where we feel listened to and not just sent 10+ candidates that vaguely fit our requirements and with the candidates that we hire through bespoke crew we always get great longevity. we have complete faith and trust in the bespoke crew team, so much so that they are the only crew agent we work with., ruben mejier - chief officer, i have been using bespoke crew for the past few years. they have done a wonderful job and have presented me with first class crew to choose from and have not inundated me with an inbox full of candidates. the backup and follow up also has been exceptional. i highly recommend bespoke and their staff as an excellent choice for crew placement., scott miller - chief stewardess, i wouldn’t work with any other crew agent. the team at bespoke crew listens to exactly what we require in a candidate and delivers solid, carefully selected, and well-vetted crew. the team has placed multiple candidates across the interior, deck, engineering, and galley. their excellent communication and high level of professionalism, it makes them a joy to work with., savannah squire - chief stewardess, i was first introduced to bespoke crew when i was personally called for a reference check. as we know, the industry is small, and we are all somehow connected by social interaction. checking references, especially verbal references, is of utmost importance when trying to find that “perfect fit” for your yacht. i immediately knew that the friendly, trusted voice on the end was doing their job diligently, trying to find that ‘perfect fit’ for another captain, and i respected that. we have worked closely with bespoke crew for nearly three years and have only positive feedback to contribute to their professional service. most, if not all, the crew has served on a longevity basis, all of whom fit in very well with our crew dynamic. i can highly recommend bespoke crew for your crew placement needs., aldon beukman - captain, bespoke has hands down become my number 1 crew agency. the agents i have worked with have all been extremely responsive and friendly and have made a real effort to build a relationship with you. they truly understand what you are looking for and never try to 'throw anything out there.' with my crazy schedule, they are good about chasing me up when need be and never letting anything fall by the wayside. there is always open, honest transparency, and i appreciate that so much. it is a big relief that there is such a consistent, all-star crew agency out there, brielle crumpler - chief stewardess, it’s been a pleasure dealing with the bespoke crew team ….thank you for discovering the right individuals for our program. we greatly appreciate the care is taken when introducing quality candidates to us and the effort to ensure a good long-term fit., len beck - captain, bespoke crew and their team have been a great help in finding the right people for our island. even though land-based and a very remote location, frankie was able to forward excellent candidates competent for the roles. bespoke crew is very responsive, responsible, and highly reliable. they stand behind their candidates 100%. excellent background checks and written and verbal references were provided. a great database of staff. highly recommended, ana white - general manager - private island in the caribbean, we are the managers in charge of a 25m sailing yacht and used bespoke crew to employ a new captain. frankie at bespoke crew was excellent. she acted quickly, provided regular updates, and produced an excellent list of highly qualified candidates. we placed the captain and would highly recommend her and bespoke crew., tom benson - director - seymour yachts, i am very impressed with how quickly i was put in touch with a highly suitable candidate through bespoke crew. the whole process was professional, extremely quick and efficient. i look forward to using bespoke crew in the future., doug pender - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What sort of experience does Galatea Recruitment look for when placing jobs? The more yachting experience the better! We work with both Motor and Sail Yachts and try to find the position that suits you best. The more qualifications and strong recommendations you have under your belt – the better! If you are new to the industry, please read the next question.
  • Can I apply for a position or send you a CV if I have no experience? Of course! 'Greenies' as they are often referred to in the yachting world, are more than welcomed into the industry, however it could take slightly longer to find the ideal job role for them. These roles often include: Deckhand, Steward/ess, Crew Chef and Assistant Engineer. If you are new, make sure to emphasise any skills that you have that translate to the position you are hoping to land e.g. if you want to be a stewardess but you have hospitality or cleaning experience then make sure to mention this. For all roles, please make sure you have your Medical fitness (ENG1) STCW-95 Basic Training qualification and more job specific qualifications if needed when applying. For any further questions please email us at: [email protected]
  • How many crew will be on each yacht? Mid- range yachts usually have between 4 to 12 crew and up to 12 passengers. The larger yachts can have 30+ crew on board at one time. Crew can also work on rotation, so you may be part of an overall larger crew.
  • How long can I work on a yacht for? Contracts are usually seasonal or all year round. There are also dayworker agreements and temporary contracts. It all depends on exactly what the yacht is needing at that time.
  • Should I work on a private or charter yacht? It depends what sort of role you prefer. A private yacht is used purely for the leisure of a yacht owner and guests. This usually means that the owner is on board for less amount of time than a charter would be, usually meaning a little more downtime. However, you could have an owner who is on board a lot. A charter yacht is rented out to guests who are usually HNWI. On a charter yacht, it is usually fast paced and involves quick turn arounds and sometimes working weeks in a row with no days off. However, crew may receive extra gratuities for providing excellent service making the extra effort worth while.
  • Where does the crew sleep on the yacht? The crew sleep in the crew quarters. These are usually based at the stern of the boat with a compact with a practical layout. Sharing a cabin is common with usually 2, sometimes more crew members to a cabin.
  • What can I do to be more desirable to hire? A number of things can help. If you are new, try and get some day work to help with experience. Captains and Yachts look for loyal crew or/and crew with great recommendations. Make sure to have your Medical fitness (ENG1) STCW-95 Basic Training A positive, can-do attitude Clean and professional personal presentation Make sure to have a professional looking CV with a headshot photo and information clearly laid out. Try and make it fit all on one page, if not two pages maximum. Have around 3 written references with updated contact details for verification. Have a file ready with all your current documentation (CV, references, certificates, passport and visas, Medical Fitness also known as ENG1) to send to us or a yacht
  • Where are yachts based and travel to? Typically, vessels often travel the Mediterranean or the US East Coast in the summer. In the winter yachts often cruise the Caribbean. SE Asia and the Middle East are becoming increasingly popular with yachts. It is not always the case that a yacht will do a dual season. Some yachts may just stay in one location all year round and during the 'off-season' carry out all their maintenance works.

The most fabulous yachts to charter this summer

jalopnik

There are an estimated 6,000 superyachts — vessels that are more than 100 feet long — at sea in 2024

As summer reaches its peak across the Northern Hemisphere, it’s hard to imagine a better way of spending a vacation than channeling your inner ship captain and sailing across the ocean.

In recent years, yacht companies have reported a boom in sales — far from the decline that many in the industry feared, due to both the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic realities of the Russia-Ukraine War.

“I spent my days [in 2020] doing worst-case scenarios and drawing up the budgets to go with them,” Giovanna Vitelli, chairwoman of Azimut|Benetti, the world’s largest yacht manufacturer, told the Economist in 2023.

Instead, her company reported a 23% growth in production value in 2023 —a reality that is not unique to just one yacht manufacturer. The luxury yacht market is expected to grow in value from $7.67 billion in 2023 to $17.33 billion by 2032, according to a recent report from Fortune Business Insights .

Analysts attribute the ships’ rise in popularity to the increasing number of extremely wealthy individuals . Yachts have long been considered a status symbol — a reality that has only increased as wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of a small group of high status individuals .

There are an estimated 6,000 superyachts —vessels that are more than 100 feet long — at sea as of this year. This is nearly quadruple the number of yachts seen in the ocean just three decades ago, according to Bloomberg .

Aside from an increase in popularity, the yacht industry has seen other changes in recent years. Increasingly, those in the market for a luxury ship are turning to alternate means of powering their vessels, as critics point to the excess emissions traditional yachts produce simply for recreational use.

In their 2024 report, Fortune Business Insights highlighted the growing trend of electrification as a significant area of growth in the coming years.

“A tough regulatory environment for traditional yachts and rising fuel prices will pave the way for the solid growth of electric yachts in the future,” the report reads. “Huge investments from various manufacturers and government support measures will accelerate the demand for electric yachts.”

Read on to learn more about the most luxurious yachts available for chartering in 2024.

Carinthia VII

Originally constructed in 2002, the award-winning Carinthia VII was recently remodeled and reimagined specifically for private charters. The 319-foot ship spans six decks and can accommodate up to 12 guests in eight staterooms. Among the ship’s amenities are two bars, a fully equipped gym and an outdoor projection screen that allows for an “immersive cinematic experience like no other.” The cost of chartering the Carinthia VII is $1,525,700 during both the winter and summer seasons.

The Lady S yacht boasts a number of exciting water toys, including jet skis, water skis, wakeboards and kayaks for athletic guests on the 305-foot ship. For those who prefer more indoor-oriented activities, however, you can also catch a film on the ship’s IMAX Dolby cinema — the first of its kind on any yacht in the world. Accommodating 12 guests, in seven cabins, the cost of chartering the Lady S begins at $1,743,328 a week.

The interior of the Ahpo yacht seems more reminiscent of a luxury hotel than a simple ship. Accommodating 16 guests and 36 crew members, the vessel features a full-size gym, a winter garden and a spa complete with a Himalayan salt sauna. The 378-foot long yacht was first manufactured in 2021 by the German shipyard Lürssen. Excited sailors can charter the Ahpo from superyacht broker Edmiston, beginning at $2,833,376 a week.

500EXP Para Bellum

This 154-foot-long yacht can accommodate up to 12 travelers in its six cabins, along with up to 10 crew members. The ship was specially designed to enable “guests a 360-degree experience and relationship with the sea” through its unique stern and sundeck that allow travelers to safely stand “almost at sea level,” according to its Italian manufacturer San Lorenzo . Interested travelers can rent the ship for $359,609 a week.

The Renaissance

The Renaissance lives up to its grandiose name by going beyond traditional private yachts and bridging the gap between a personal vehicle and a full-on cruise ship. The 367-foot long ship features five decks and can accommodate 36 guests in 19 cabins. The Renaissance’s amenities include a 19-seat movie theater, a sushi-bar, and a full spa deck featuring a wellness area, plunge pools and a hair salon. The cost of chartering the ship from Burgess Yachts ranges from $3,269,280 to $3,814,160 a week.

Dramatic 13 hour rescue sees yacht crew facing 'risk to life' off coast of Cornwall

Lifeboat volunteers in Cornwall carried out a dramatic 13 hour rescue after a yacht lost steering and the crew onboard was put in a life-threatening situation.

The RNLI was first alerted to reports that a yacht had lost control of its steering 40 nautical miles off the coast of the Lizard by the Falmouth Coastguard at 10:30am on Monday 15 July.

The Lizard's lifeboat station decided to send the Tamar all-weather lifeboat, Rose, to meet the yacht as Coxswain Andrew Putt decided there was a "risk to life and danger to navigation".

He decided the safest option was to tow the yacht to the nearest harbour in Newlyn - but this proved difficult as the yacht began to sway left and right meaning both boats could only travel at two knots at times.

The Coxswain and his six volunteers decided to call for assistance, leading to the Penlee Lifeboat joining them at 3pm.

Their all-weather Severn Class lifeboat, the Ivan Ellen, arrived two hours later and took over the tow, while the Lizard's Rose acted as a brake behind the yacht.

The tow itself then lasted for several hours with both lifeboats and the yacht arriving into Newlyn some 13 hours after the Lizard crew first set off for the rescue.

Penlee Lifeboat added that the RNLI volunteers found hot pizza and coffee a "welcome sight" after spending so long at sea.

Chicago to Mackinac sailing race record smashed by more than an hour

Maverick racing by the Mackinac Bridge

The Maverick broke a 22-year record in the 115th Chicago Yacht Club Race To Mackinac Presented By Wintrust. Chicago Yacht Club Race To Mackinac

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI - Before the first boats ever left Navy Pier this weekend, Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac organizers knew the weather forecast would make this 115th competition one of the faster courses in the race’s history - if the sailing crews could avoid the storms forecast to sweep across Lake Michigan.

And while the storms did send at least three damaged boats limping out of the race and caused a man overboard situation, southerly wind conditions were a boon to the frontrunners, creating a downwind drag race and leading to a record-breaking win that smashed the old Race to Mackinac record by more than an hour.

The Maverick’s crew beat Roy P. Disney’s 22-year-old record with a time of 22 hours, 24 minutes, 23 seconds. This bested the Disney heir’s record set in 2002 with Pyewacket by an hour, six minutes and 11 seconds.

The Maverick team was led by Sanford Burris and William and Ward Kinney. The boat also claimed the race’s Royono Trophy for the first racing monohull to finish the 115th edition.

“I will tell you from my perspective, I wish the record had lasted longer, but these things are inevitable,” said Disney, a well-known figure in the sailing world who is the grand-nephew of Walt Disney. “Given how long it took to break that record shows how difficult a course it is, and what a classic sailboat race it is! Many congratulations to the owner, the crew and the boat, Maverick.”

Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac

Nearly 250 boats joined the 333-mile race from Chicago’s Navy Pier to the finish line near Mackinac Island. Known as America’s Offshore Challenge, it’s the world’s longest annual freshwater sailing race. The race is divided into the Cruising Division, which left Chicago on Friday, and the sleeker Racing Division, which began racing on Saturday.

What was the secret to this weekend’s fast times?

“Most important is a southerly wind direction and strength, combined with advancements in boats and sails,” said Winn Soldani, chair for the 115th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Wintrust. “Plus you add in last night’s storms that brought increased breeze and it’s literally the perfect setup for a record-breaking year.”

Some of the boats are still finishing the course today. You can see them there on the race tracker.

Maverick’s Sanford Burris is from Kirtland, Ohio. “He sails with his sons and many longtime friends on the carbon fiber Andrews 80 they have spent the past three years upgrading. Joining the 20 crew onboard was Evolution Sails founder Rodney Keenan,” race staff said.

“The team celebrated briefly as the Maverick team crossed the Race to Mackinac finish line between Mackinac Island and the Round Island lighthouse … and then kept on sailing.”

The Maverick is one of a couple dozen sailboats competing in this year’s “Super Mac” race - which means it keeps going instead of stopping at Mackinac Island for the big afterparty. It races south down Lake Huron to reach Port Huron - a race of 495 nautical miles. The Bayview Mackinac Race - which is next week - starts near the Blue Water Bridge and competing sailboats will race north to Mackinac Island. Those boats running the “Super Mac” can also do the Bayview and it’s like running three races in a week’s span.

The Below Deck Med Crew Faces a "F-cking Scary" Issue: "Someone Can Get Hurt, If Not Die"

The Mustique  crew members disagree over how to solve a terrifying issue in a new Below Deck Mediterranean preview.

yachts looking for crew

As Below Deck Mediterranean  fans are well aware, Season 9 has been a wild one. From the very beginning, the Mustique crew has been plagued with drama, both personal and in the form of yacht-related issues . And as a new preview for Episode 7 shows, the problems aren't ending any time soon.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Mediterranean  on Mondays at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo app .

In the clip, which you can watch above, an anchor issue comes into play, and it may leave guests, including The Traitors ' Trishelle Cannatella, unable to make their flights to Paris.

While in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea on the last day of charter, Captain Sandy Yawn announces that the crew is unable to get the ship's anchor up.

"The anchor shaft isn't working, so we're going to have to leave the anchor," she explains. "We put the buoy on it and get the divers, and then we get it transported back to the marina. And then we install it there, because we need our anchor."

While the plan seems to be going fine — even the guests are okay with the delay, as they get more of a vacation — deckhand Nathan Gallagher doesn't love the process.

"This is f-cking scary," he says while tying the anchor to a buoy on the water. While Sandy says they're free to drop the anchor, it's not that simple.

"We need to take a step back," explains deckhand Joe Bradley . "Because if this anchor chain hits you, or hits the boat, someone can get hurt, if not die."

Captain sandy yawn explains the problem with the anchor.

Because we're not all yachties, Sandy is kind enough to explain what exactly is going on with the ship.

"I've never had to leave an anchor on purpose because a windlass didn't work ," she explains in a confessional. "We tried to tie a line on and haul the anchor in by hand. Didn't work. Option two is we leave our anchor and have someone come and retrieve it. It's a risk to leave our anchor. It's a very expensive piece of equipment. Hopefully it's still there when we return. The weather is here, I have to get these clients back to the dock. We don't really have an option."

So, will they be reunited with the anchor? Will anyone get hit by that terrifying chain? Find out when Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 7 airs on Monday, July 15. Watch it live at 9/8c on Bravo or stream the next day on Peacock.

A crew member falls off a yacht and dies during a race on the Aegean Sea

  • Copy Link copied

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A French crew member on a boat participating in a yacht race on the Aegean Sea has died after falling overboard in strong winds, Greek officials said Tuesday.

A coast guard statement said the accident occurred late Monday off the eastern island of Kassos. It identified the crew member as a 40-year-old woman. It said a second crew member who went overboard was rescued.

Race organizers said the dead crew member had a severe head injury and efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. The yacht was taking part in the international Aegean 600 that started Sunday.

Organizers said Monday’s severe weather forced 14 of the 69 yachts participating to drop out.
