Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16 featured the franchise's most chaotic wedding yet

It wasn't exactly a picture-perfect beach wedding during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16

Gary King and charter guest on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16

This week's Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 episode 16 featured a tall order for our crew of the Parsifal III : their first guest wedding. Not only a guest wedding but a guest wedding on a beach . And if you're even a casual viewer of Below Deck , you know that beach set-ups rarely go smoothly, and this one was no exception.

In the penultimate episode of season 3, the crew welcomes engaged couple Allegra Gray and Gabe Szczepanek and their friends as the season's final charter guests. From the get-go, the guests were a bit more high-maintenance than usual, as their gluten-free dietary restrictions proved to be chef Marcos Spaziani 's toughest preference sheet yet. And that was before he even got to the hardest bit: a three-tiered gluten-free wedding cake.

The crew — most of whom were severely hungover from the night before, with several sleeping well past their start time (hi, Marcos and Colin) — rallied to make sure they ended the charter season on a high note and gave Allegra and Gabe the beachside nuptials of their dreams. But the wedding gods had other plans.

When first mate Gary King, chief engineer Colin MacRae  and junior stew Ashley Marti boat over to the Menorca beach that Captain Glenn Shepard chose as the perfect spot for the intimate wedding, the busy marina is filled with sunbathers and swimmers. "What the f*ck?" Colin exclaims upon arrival. "They should just get married on the boat."

"There's a f*ckload of people on this beach and I don't want to f*ck up these people's wedding," Ashley says in a confessional.

"F*cking hell, this is the worst day," Gary concurs.

But Captain Glenn told the deckhands before they left, "Set up as wide an area as possible to discourage people from coming too close," so that's what they do, even as bikini-clad vacationers frolic around both sand and surf. They pop a white tent to cover the drink station and plunk some artificial floral arrangements into the sand. The whole rushed set-up "looks like a Halloween prank," Colin says, and frankly, he's not wrong.

At least the bride-to-be looks like a wedding magazine cover girl, in an elaborate gown from New York's famous Kleinfeld Bridal. "I went with a very subtle look," Allegra jokes. The formal frock does make deboarding the tender quite difficult, with Colin having to carry the bride onto the beach.

The ceremony itself is a sweet affair, with Captain Glenn officiating and Colin providing some procession music on his guitar, though people creeping on the event from nearby kayaks probably wasn't what the bride and groom had in mind for their intimate exchanging of vows.

At the end of it all, the bride throws the bouquet—which chief stew Daisy Kelliher catches, causing her on-again, off-again smooch partner Gary to throw himself into the ocean and yell, "I'm not marrying you, Daisy!"

Why are 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 4 Episodes 16 and 17 not airing this week? Here's when Bravo show will return

SARDINIA, ITALY: Bravo's 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 4 has started dropping two back-to-back episodes a week. Until now, we have watched the crew members serving as the primary charter guest in the best way possible. Despite putting their best side front, some downs in the serving have been noticed.

Captain Glenn Shepherd reprimands the crew after noticing the miscommunication. The jealousy game between Gary King, Mads Herrera, Colin MacRae, and Diasy Kelliher started as their intimate scene became known to each other. Well, the love drama will not be ending anytime soon. We can expect it to get even more complicated.

Why Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is the Best Show You’re Not Watching

By: Author Paul Dailly

Posted on Published: June 23, 2023

  • X (Twitter)

The Below Deck franchise is about to celebrate its 10th birthday on Bravo.

When the series sailed onto our screens in 2013, the idea that I'd still be invested a decade later didn't float.

The year is 2023, and any quasi-successful series has countless spinoffs, but it's rare for a spinoff to outshine the original.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 4 Cast

Enter Below Deck: Sailing Yacht , the dark horse of the franchise.

When the show kicked off in 2020, it was an utter disaster, with many believing it wouldn't survive into a second season.

Daisy Entertains Her Guests - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

Thanks to more people at home due to COVID-19, the show garnered decent ratings.

Thankfully, Bravo understood that finding the right cast is the key to delivering drama worthy of the high seas.

Producers thought we were interested in watching a cast built around Below Deck: Mediterranean's Adam Glick, and it was hands down one of the worst seasons in franchise history — even worse than Below Deck: Adventure's sole, disastrous season.

Something tells me the latter will NOT see a second season, which is a shame because Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 2 rose like a phoenix from the ashes of its messy freshman season.

Daisy on Season 4 - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht got a second shot at life, albeit with some big changes, and it's blossomed into the best show in the franchise and one of the best shows on TV.

The fun didn't really begin until Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 2, which revealed Glenn Shephard was the lone returning star from the freshman season as the captain of the Parsifal III.

We were introduced to Chief Stewardess Daisy Kelliher, Chief Engineer Colin Macrae, and First Officer Gary King, among others.

The trio remains on the series two seasons later for one reason:

Fans have connected with them.

Gary on Season 4 - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

On the current Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 4 , fans have been given a front-row seat into what can only be described as a love triangle, complete with some twists and turns you'd expect to be reserved for primetime soap operas.

It's hard to take the love triangle seriously, but when you have Gary telling Daisy it's always been her after she moved on with Colin, it makes for great TV.

You do have to suspend your disbelief at some moments, including Daisy wrongly calling Colin Gary and the apparent fact that Colin didn't know about Daisy and Gary's past.

He clearly hasn't been watching Below Deck: Sailing Yacht online!

Memphis Garrett & Christmas Abbott: Big Brother Stars Shock Fans With News They Are Dating

33 Shamefully Addictive Reality Shows We Can’t Stop Watching!

We kid, mostly.

There have been questionable moments throughout this latest plot, but thanks to the nature of the show filming constantly, we're seeing all the nuances of how the trio and their inner circle are reacting.

Had this happened any other season, it would have probably been covered more extensively, but thanks to Scandoval , anything not named Vanderpump Rules is getting little coverage.

It's no secret that Daisy is off her game this season.

She was excellent at her job in her first two seasons, but she's starting to resemble Hannah from Below Deck Mediterranean in her final seasons, albeit far more approachable.

Colin Macrae - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

The final episodes of the season will be critical to the show's future prospects, but it seems like the show is already filming another season of drama in Ibiza.

The question will be whether Daisy, Gary, and Colin will return after all the hoo-ha from on-board drama.

Glenn has been mostly unimpressed with the performance of Daisy and stewardesses Lucy Edmunds and Mads Herrera.

While the shows typically focus on the complicated dynamics between departments, there is quite a bit of unity between them this season.

Yes, there have been some blow-ups, but for the most part, the editing is taking us on a journey to show how far Daisy can push Glen, and I'm here for it.

Glenn Shephard - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

Glenn has a reputation to keep up, and the most recent charter guests on the Bravo hit were less than impressed with the lack of service.

It's doubtful Glen would fire Daisy with the season beginning to wind down, but it's hard not to wonder how Daisy would fare if she was under the purview of Captain Sandy.

Sandy has a much different managing style than Glen, and something tells me she would have plenty to say about the current formation of the Parsifal III.

The beauty of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht has also been the charter guests.

Daisy Kelliher - Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

For some reason, the producers find more vocal guests than the other shows in the franchise.

My best guess is that the smaller nature of the Parsifal III in relation to the other shows is that it's a more confined space, leading to — you guessed it — more conflict.

On Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Season 4 kicked off with the boat being broken for the first charter, meaning the interior staff had to bend over backward to deliver the seven-star service.

In the charters since, we've had near-misses, guests talking to Glenn while he's trying to dock the boat, and a less than stellar service from the interior.

All these ingredients combined have allowed the season to keep Sailing Yacht as the finest show in the franchise.

With a handful of episodes remaining, it's hard to imagine things changing, but we're sure there's plenty of drama set to hit the seas.

Below Deck is one of the most beloved Bravo programs thanks to the wild antics that happen on and off charter. With five franchises in the Below Deck Cinematic Universe, fans simply can't get enough from the personalities that work on these dream superyachts. Below Deck is not always fun and games. Sometimes there are some wild moments that make iconic television for a variety of different reasons. Whether it's making shocking remarks, engaging in taboo behavior, or almost losing your life, Below Deck has been nonstop must-watch television.

For over a decade, Below Deck has been one Bravo's biggest intellectual properties . Giving a behind-the-scenes peek into the inner workings of life on the high seas, Below Deck perfectly balances the reality of the job and the reality of reality television. Below Deck has spawned four spin-offs, Below Deck Mediterranean , Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Below Deck Down Under , and Below Deck Adventure . While each series features different locales and an ever-changing cast of characters, there are no signs of slowing down. It's all thanks to the wild moments that have occurred across the five series.

10 Eddie Lucas and Rocky Dakota's Forbidden Hookup

Below deck season 3.

Hooking up with your fellow crew members can have some major consequences if you're not careful. Especially when one of the parties involved has a devoted girlfriend waiting for them back home. Eddie Lucas is one of the most beloved yachties throughout the history of Below Deck . He started during Season 1 as a First Deckhand before being promoted to Boson for the next two seasons. Eddie was a strong worker and quite loveable, but it all came crashing down when Raquel "Rocky" Dakota joined Motoryacht Eros for Season 3. Rocky had a rocky go during her time on Below Deck . She didn't quite get along with Chief Stew Kate Chastain . She sided with Chef Leon Walker , despite his abysmal attitude. Her erratic behavior and ability to play with people's hearts, namely deckhand Emile Kotze , got her in trouble. But trouble was brewing aboard when she was "doing laundry" with Eddie.

Rocky and Eddie secretly hooked up, with the cameras capturing every move, and for the majority of the time, Eddie denied it, causing Rocky to spiral. By the time he finally fessed up, many of his coworkers were disappointed in Eddie's actions, including Captain Lee Rosbach . Eddie went on to tell Rocky it was a mistake, which she felt was a malicious attack toward her, deflecting all responsibility onto her. This drama seeped into Eddie's decision to leave Below Deck . Thankfully, an older, wiser, and more mature Eddie returned for Season 8 and Season 9, where he was promoted once again to First Officer. Hookups on Below Deck may be juicy to watch, but they often have real world consequences. And these two surely found that out.

9 Kyle Viljoen's Romance with a Charter Guest

Below deck mediterranean season 7.

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Kyle Viljoen was a vibrant character. As one of the very few male stews the show has had, his story showcased his ability to fully express his sexuality in the open. During one of the charters, a group of gay men came on board and Kyle found a tribe he could connect with. The more he got to know this charter crew, the more he began to make a connection with the charter guest, Frank Fay . In the world of yachting, having any intimate interactions with a charter guest is completely forbidden. It's happened before, namely with Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier during Season 2.

While her flirting did get her in trouble, Kyle's flirtation with Frank was championed a bit more by fans and his fellow crew. Kyle was instantly smitten with Frank, but he knew he couldn't do anything while Frank was a guest, and he was working. Having never really found a love connection, Kyle was eager to explore something with Frank when the charter was over. Well, as fate would have it, Frank and his friends were still in Malta during the crew's night out. The pair did get a chance to dance in the club, which led to an adorable Hollywood moment where Kyle and Frank kissed before they departed. This wild moment may have been heartwarming, but it could have had dangerous consequences for Kyle.

8 Chief Stew Heather Chase Makes Racially Insensitive Comment

Below deck season 9.

When you live and work with the same people for a long period of time, you might begin to loosen up and let your guard down. And when that happens, sometimes something slips out that can ruin your entire reputation. During Season 9 of Below Deck , new Chief Stew Heather Chase was hoping to find her footing and be the first long-term Chief Stew since the departure of Kate Chastain . It would all come crashing down, however, when what she perceived to be a passing comment turned into something much bigger.

Deckhand Rayna Lindsey used a racial epithet and Heather repeated it back to her. This moment weighed heavy on Rayna, so when she approached Heather about this, she claimed she didn't recall saying it. This caused a heated discussion where Heather tried to claim she didn't like being called out by Rayna. When it did come to light on television, Heather took accountability on social media, but Rayna took this opportunity to claim that Heather had comfortably used this slur throughout the filming of the show.

7 Chuck Sanders and Erica Rose Leave Worst Tip Ever

Below deck sailing yacht season 3.

When charter guests step onto a motoryacht, they expect the best. Fine dining, exquisite service, and an experience of a lifetime. This ultimately will be reflected in the tip that the crew receives in the end. For the most part, there is a common window that motoryacht crews have expected. Sometimes it deviates. But when the tip is split among the entire crew, a poor tip can be detrimental, both to their pockets and as a reflection of their service. But what happens when the tip doesn't reflect the service, but is because one charter guest is just a terrible, horrible, attention-hungry person? Such is the case when Erica Rose , a former contestant on The Bachelor , returned to Parsifal III, with her husband, Chuck Sanders .

During Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Erica Rose and her friends had a little getaway in Croatia. Their experience was quite memorable for just how demanding they were. For Erica, when she came back onboard, she was eager to have a good time. Her husband, not so much. He was eager to nitpick everything, displaying some terrible behavior. Chef Marcos Spaziani , who had been brilliant up until this point, had met his match in Chuck, who criticized everything that was set in front of him. He even compared the meals to ballpark food and McDonald's., and Chuck's dissatisfaction resulted in a shocking tip of $6500. The entire crew was in complete shock. Aside from the abysmal tip, this group of charter guests left a lasting impression on the white couch, when Erica's mom's spray-on tan stained it. Fans took to social media to express their own displeasure, forcing Chuck and Erica to tongue-in-cheek in response. There have been some terrible charter guests throughout the years, but these two take the cake.

6 chief stew hannah ferrier gets fired, below deck mediterranean season 5.

For five seasons, Hannah Ferrier was one of the most beloved personalities on Below Deck Mediterranean . Since joining the series from the very beginning, Hannah has served as the Chief Stew. Like many individuals throughout the Below Deck Cinematic Universe, not everyone is going to get along with everyone on board. Hannah had quite a difficult relationship with Captain Sandy Yawn . Captain Sandy seemed to lack any respect for Hannah, holding her accountable for things that many other captains would never do. She held her to a higher standard and often stated she was willing to fire Hannah if the opportunity arose.

Cut to Season 5, where the opportunity was literally placed in her lap. For Season 5, Malia White returned to the crew, serving as the Boson. Often seen as Captain Sandy's mini-me, she was very devoted to her craft, willing to throw anybody under the bus if it jeopardized her position. Already having a previous history and conflict with Hannah, she took a vulnerable moment and twisted it into something devastating. Hannah had a history of anxiety, something viewers and Captain Sandy were familiar with. So when Malia "happened on" Valium and a vape pen on their bathroom counter, Malia ran it to Captain Sandy. After going through the channels on how this went against maritime law, Hannah was relieved of her duties and removed from the boat. Hannah's firing was shocking at the moment, but it had lingering effects, as Captain Sandy would be scrutinized by the fandom for how she would go on and treat other crew members with anxiety. Losing one of Below Deck Mediterranean's most well-known faces was brutal, but Hannah has moved on, living a happy life.

5 Captain Glenn Shephard Crashes Boat...Twice!

Below deck sailing yacht season 2.

No one said sailing a yacht was easy, but the captains of the Below Deck franchises certainly make it look like it is! But there has been one illustrious captain who was caught on camera crashing his ship. Not once, but twice! Parsifal III has truly been old faithful on Below Deck Sailing Yacht . She's been through a lot. But through thick and thin, Captain Glenn Shephard was there, looking after his baby. But sometimes, Parsifal III has failed him. Before the infamous engine fiasco that almost canceled the entire charter season during Season 4, Parsifal III had some crashing to do. During Season 2, due to some human error, Parsifal III hits the dock.

Things happen, but when it happens a second time during a charter season, something's fishy! Unfortunately for Captain Glenn, his trusty ship had a bit of a malfunction that caused the vessel to continue to move backwards during docking. As much as Captain Glenn tried to maneuver it forward, nothing would work. Thankfully, with how the dock was constructed, there was an ever-so-slight buffer that the sailing yacht only uprooted the concrete blocks on the dock, resulting in some cosmetic damage. While Captain Glenn had blamed himself often, it would be Season 1's chief engineer, Byron Hissey , who told him that it was a manufacturer issue.

4 Captain Lee Abruptly Ends Charter

Below deck season 8.

Some charter guests who come for their extraordinary excursion think they're in charge. But when you step foot on the Daddy of the Sea's ship, it's his way or the highway. For those who have been part of Captain Lee's Rosbach 's journey, he is an amazing person with a kind heart. But some things tick him off, to the point where his sailor's mouth comes out. During one of the Below Deck Season 8 charters, a group of grown adults decided it was in their best interest to test the bounds of getting drunk and doing as they pleased.

For one guest named Delores, the word "no" was simply not in her vocabulary. She wanted to go for a swim, and no one was going to tell her otherwise. So, Dolores jumped in, after multiple attempts to talk her out of it. For Captain Lee, this was a big F- you, as he knew this was beyond dangerous and could put her or his crew in danger. As much as he tried to convince her to come back, she pulled the money card. For Captain Lee, that was the final straw. He ended the charter for the group, not even 12 hours into their trip.

3 Chef Mila Kolomeitseva's Homophobia and Poor Culinary Skills

Below deck mediterranean season 4.

Being a yacht chef takes a very special person. You must have incredible skills, not only as a culinary artist, but it's crucial to be able to cater to the needs of every single individual and their preferences. But not everyone wants to be a charter chef, so sometimes you're stuck with who's available. For Season 4 of Below Deck Mediterranean , they were stuck with Chef Mila Kollomeitseva, and using the title chef is quite loose. Not only was this woman in over her head, she was completely loose canon and oblivious. After some insanely unforgivable rookie mistakes, including serving microwavable nachos to the high-paying charter guests and making an inedible box cake, Chef Mila's culinary skills were already grounds for her dismissal.

But all it took was a crew night out to cement her departure. On their way out on the town, a discussion on gay pride parades came up, and Chef Mila made her opinion known. She bluntly revealed, "I don't want my son seeing two men kissing each other." Her homophobic remark led to immense outrage from lead deckhand Travis Michalzik after she then questioned his own sexuality. With other crew members already echoing the sentiment that Chef Mila was homophobic, the timing couldn't have been better for Captain Sandy Yawn to fire her coincidentally after. The beauty and the drawback of working on a yacht is having a crew of individuals from all over the globe and from all walks of life. Sometimes, morals and ideals won't line up, but in this world, Chef Mila's opinions were just too far removed from salvaging any sort of working relationship on this yacht.

2 Below Deck Down Under Fires Two Crew Members

Below deck down under season 2.

There is a very fine line when it comes to sexual assault and sexual harassment in the workplace. When it happens, there is no answer but to remove the individuals who engage in it. During the second season of Below Deck Down Under , Captain Jason Chambers was forced to make a drastic but necessary decision by immediately firing two crew members almost simultaneously. Hookups have been commonplace throughout Below Deck , but that does not excuse inappropriate behavior. Both Luke Jones and Laura Bileskalne had been building a reputation for wanting some action over working on the yacht. Since socializing is minimal during the charter season, they turned to the individuals they lived and worked with.

Season 2 of Below Deck Down Under had an almost immediate love pentagon. Laura was initially interested in Adam Kodra , but he was not interested in her. So she turned her focus toward Luke. Meanwhile, Luke was initially pursuing Margot Sisson , but she's interested in Harry Van Vliet . So, with Luke and Laura not getting what they wanted, they turned to each other. As some fans claimed, "trash attracts trash." But this temporary hookup was just that. After a drunken crew night out, they both went back to pursuing their initial interest, and they did so by crossing the line. Luke climbed into Margot's bed without consent. Margo, who was sleeping, was not clothed. After being terminated, Laura did not agree with the decision , but it was then revealed that she exhibited inappropriate behavior toward Adam , resulting in her immediate termination. It was an incredibly unfortunate situation, but fans were thrilled to see how Captain Jason triumphantly handled the situation.

1 Ashton Pienaar Almost Dies

Below deck season 6.

For the most part, Below Deck has portrayed the luxurious side of yachting. Rarely do things ever get dangerous. But Below Deck experienced one of the most shocking and near-fatal incidents during the sixth season of the flagship program. As Captain Lee Rosbach explained, they were within 30 seconds of him dying. As the motoryacht was leaving port in Tahiti, Ashton Pienaar was on the swim deck helping with the tow-line.

He unfortunately was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time as his foot got tangled in the line, dragging him overboard. Deckhand Rhylee Gerber radioed, "Man overboard," forcing the entire crew to jump into action. As it just so happened, it was cameraman Brent Freeburg who saved the day, dropping the camera and loosening the line for Ashton to free his leg. It was a horrifying sight to see, but illuminated the dangers on the high seas. At the Season 6 reunion, Ashton was greeted by the man who saved his life in a quite emotional moment. The job can be dangerous and Below Deck had to showcase all sides of reality.

Below Deck's Captains Laid Down The Strict Rules Of The Show In These Heated Moments

  • Below Deck captains have laid down strict rules and expectations for their crew throughout the show's various seasons.
  • Captain Sandy Yawn made it clear to the crew that she would not tolerate any rule-breaking or drinking during charters.
  • Captain Lee Rosbach had to remove a guest, Delores, from the yacht after she disobeyed his orders and jumped off the boat while intoxicated.

The Below Deck captains have their hands full both with the guests and their crew who showed they would walk off the boat in the early days of the franchise. While Captain Lee, Captain Sandy, and Captain Jason are fairly good at keeping their cool, there were moments on the show when they had to tout their authority when things went awry , much to the chagrin of those aboard.

There have been many moments in the Below Deck franchise when the captains had to make tough calls, as revealed when the cast speaks the truth about working on Below Deck . Here are some of the times the Below Deck captains laid down the strict rules of the show in heated moments . Additionally, just what occurred to get the captains riled up will be looked at as well as what the outcome of the conversation with the captains was.

Captain Sandy Lays Down The Law Before First Charter

The crew from season 2, episode 1 of below deck mediterranean was shocked by captain sandy's expectations.

Captain Sandy Yawn

Below Deck Mediterranean

Sirocco

Before starting off on a charter season, it is expected that the captain lays out what the expectations are during the season.

Captain Sandy laid out her expectations very clearly for the crew, according to a clip from the show , letting them know that she is not an "a**hole unless rules are not followed."

It was also made clear that drinking during a charter would not be tolerated.

Additionally, before Captain Sandy wrapped up the meeting, she let the crew know that in her nearly three decades of being a captain and dealing with fires and pirates, it has never done the crew any good about talking about drama on the previous boat they were on. As such, she wanted the drama left there.

Captain Lee Kicks Guest Off Charter For Disobeying Him

Delores from season 8, episode 10 of below deck jumped off the yacht after captain lee explicitly told her not to.

Captain LeeRosbach

Below Deck

My Seanna

Captain Lee had an interesting charter with a group of friends who came aboard to have a great time. However, one of the guests, Delores, took things a bit too far when she got intoxicated which caused Captain Lee to lose his cool.

Delores said that she was going to go to bed. But, as she passed by the water, Delores decided she wanted to swim instead.

The crew told Delores to stay on the boat as it was not safe for her to swim while drunk. Delores jumped in anyway , even after Captain Lee told her not to. This was the "ultimate f**k you to the captain."

Delores tried to tell Captain Lee that she could do what she wanted because she "paid a lot of money" to be on the charter . This did not phase Captain Lee. Instead, he told Delores how it was.

"Your charter just ended."

Delores was sent on her way the next morning and the remaining friends were allowed to finish out their charter, but not until she got one last moment in the sun.

What is one of Below Deck's Captain Lee Rosbach's worst moments?

During an episode of Below Deck, a female charter guest pleaded with Kelley Johnson to go down the slide with them. As viewers, it was abundantly clear that Johnson was very uncomfortable with the idea of going down the slide with the guest as he firmly turned down the request. In response, the guest went to Captain Lee Rosbach to ask him to get Johnson to go down the slide with her and he gave in to her request. The Captains decision to give the charter guest what she wanted clearly put Johnson in an uncomfortable position. The guest even tried to get Johnson to take his shirt off but he wasnt forced to do that.

"I knew she wasn't going to go peacefully," Captain Lee explained.

This was an understatement as Delores jumped off the tender on her way back to shore before finally leaving the care of the crew.

Captain Jason Gives Crew "Common Sense" Lecture

Captain jason from season 1, episode 4 of below deck down under tells the exterior crew to get their act together before the next charter.

Captain Jason Chambers

Below Deck Down Under

Thalassa

The crew of the Thalassa was not doing what they needed to in order to get the ship ready for charter. Instead, they were standing around chatting when they should have been working and leaving all the jobs they needed to do until the last minute, making the charter guests wait.

Captain Jason named a laundry list of items that needed to be done that simply was not, as seen in a clip from the show. However, Captain Jason said that he was not going to act like their father. Instead, the crew needed to "grow up" and "be responsible" for themselves.

"We have to think ahead with common sense."

Captain Jason also said that he was not going to call out the crew in front of the interior because that was "disrespectful." He then told the crew to get themselves together before the next charter.

Captain Sandy "Defends Her Crew" With Difficult Guests

Captain sandy from season 3, episode 2 of below deck mediterranean would not let difficult guests take advantage of her crew.

Captain Sandy Yawn

Below Deck Mediterranean

Talisman Maiton

The guests on this particular charter on the Talisman Maiton were very demanding. The food that was being prepared was superb but it continuously got sent back.

Captain Sandy could not believe just how many times this occurred and decided, as seen in a clip from the show, to see with her own eyes just what was happening. It was at that point that she saw just what the interior was dealing with.

"I see it with my own eyeballs. These guests are impossible."

Captain Sandy went to the galley to ask for one guest's preference sheets because she was upset about her dinner. Her preferences do not match what she is saying she does not like. As such, Captain Sandy takes the preference sheet to the guest because she is going to "defend" her crew.

This Athlete Admits His Experience On Below Deck Was The Opposite Of What He Expected

Fans actually agreed with Johnny Damon and his critique of the Below Deck staff.

The guest has nothing to say when confronted in the nicest way possible and backs down instead.

Captain Jason Has Repeated Discussion About Being "Efficient"

Captain jason from season 1, episode 7 of below deck down under would not allow jamie to call his methods unsafe.

Bosun Jamie comes to the bridge of the Thalassa to speak with Captain Jason about the way he is doing things. When Jamie tried to call out Captain Jason for being unsafe , in a clip from the show, that is when Captain Jason shuts Jamie down.

"I'm doing everything safely."

Captain Jason goes on to say that there is nothing wrong with multitasking to save some time when it is done safely and lists many things outside James' capabilities that he has done.

When Jamie tried to say it is because he has an incompetent crew, Captain Jason tells him that is a conversation Jamie needs to have with his crew , not him.

Captain Lee Fires Chef After Grease Fire In Galley

Captain lee from season 3, episode 10 of below deck wanted chef leon to take responsibility for his actions.

Captain Lee Rosbach

Below Deck

EROS

A grease fire broke out in the kitchen of the EROS and Captain Lee had to write an incident report about it.

Captain Lee called in Chef Leon, as seen in a clip from the show, to discuss what happened. But instead of Leon taking any responsibility for the fire, he tried to throw Chief Stew Kate Chastain under the bus.

Given that the two did not get along well, Captain Lee was not surprised that Leon took this opportunity to try and make Kate look bad. But the excuses that Leon was giving, from burnt popcorn to dry pans in the oven were not adding up to Captain Lee.

"Dry clean pans doesn't start fires. Doesn't happen."

Why Kate Won't Be Returning To 'Below Deck,' Despite Being A Favorite

Below Deck's Kate Chastain won't be back in a skort as a Chief Stew any time soon, but that doesn't mean she's stepping away from Bravo.

Captain Lee was looking for Leon to take responsibility . But when he refused to do so, in conjunction with the constant bickering with Kate, Captain Lee fired Leon .

Captain Jason Calls Out Crew For Sloppy Job

Captain jason from season 1, episode 7 of below deck down under had to help the crew because of their sloppy job in front of charter guests.

The crew of the Thalassa struggled all season. As such, when a tangled rope stopped the charter dead in the water because the tender boat needed to be tied on, a segment of the show showed Captain Jason had had about enough of the incompetence of the exterior crew.

"Guests shouldn't be waiting on us. This should have been done before the charter."

Captain Jason called on the radio to Bosun Jamie about the situation with Jamie being on the tender. Jamie then called to the crew on the radio. Much to Jamie's surprise, Captain Jason is the one helping the crew and because of having to do so, Captain Jason said another sloppy job was done by the crew in front of the charter guests.

Captain Lee Puts Bosun In Place After He Claims Double Standards

Captain lee in season 4, episode 6 of below deck stopped bosun kelly from claiming his being talked to about his team's poor work was double standards.

Captain Lee Rosbach

Below Deck

Valor

Captain Lee noticed that despite the crew being up since 6:30 AM, the windows on the yacht had not been washed for days . When he talked to Bosun Kelly about this in a clip from the show, Kelly claimed it is the inside of the windows that is dirty. Kelly then blamed the interior for a poor job.

The windows in the downstairs of the yacht were covered in salt, which was an indication that the exterior windows had not been washed. As Kelly tries to argue the point, Captain Lee stops him.

"Do you really want to go to war on this?"

Kelly expresses that he feels like there were double standards for the interior and exterior crews . Captain Lee does not care and just wants the dirty windows cleaned.

Captain Sandy Fires Chef Over Three Bad Charters Of Food

Captain sandy from season 4, episode 5 of below deck mediterranean tried to let chef mila stay but had to fire her for a poor job in the galley.

Chef Mila had three bad charters . The meals were not coming out fast enough and were not up to the standards of the yacht. Captain Sandy had compassion for Mila because she knew Mila was trying and even pointed this fact out in a clip from the show.

"You have passion in the galley."

Despite Mila wanting to prove that she could make good food after three bad charters, Captain Sandy simply had no choice but to fire Mila.

Mila handled the news well and thanked Captain Sandy for her support.

Below Deck's Captains Laid Down The Strict Rules

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 6 Recap: Free-Falling

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 6 recap.

Welcome to the  Below Deck Mediterranean  Season 9, Episode 6 recap! In this week’s episode, called “Running Aft-er Time,” Elena continues bullying Bri. But Aesha doesn’t have time to deal with them and says, “Just get over it and do your job.” When Joe tells Gael he might be interested in Elena after all, she advises him to pick a girl and stick with her, or he’ll just cause trouble. The Bosun is already on thin ice with Captain Sandy, but when he makes a couple of major mistakes that could endanger the boat, this might be the end of the line for Ian. Here are some of the highlights from Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 6.

The war continues

Interior stew, Elena on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9.

In the crew mess, Elena sees Joe and asks, “What’s going on with this Bri sleepover situation?” Bri’s been camping out in the boys’ cabin since she can’t stand to be in the same room with Elena.

“She’s just creating drama for no reason,” Ellie says. “She’s just going out of her way to be like, ‘Oh, I’m a victim.’ Nobody has done anything to you. Shut the f*ck up, [and] get to work … It has nothing to do with me.”

Next, Ellie complains to Aesha, “I’m sorry. This Bri situation is going to have to stop. She’s sleeping on the floor in the boys’ cabin.”

“Again?” Aesha asks. “Oh, my gosh!”

“She’s telling me I’m belittling her,” Elena continues.

“Are you?” Aesha asks.

“I am not,” Ellie insists. “I am not that person, and I will not stand for that. That’s where I draw the f*cking line.”

“I know it’s hard, but you both need to just get over it,” Aesha counsels. “We can sort it after the charter.”

“Bri and Ellie just have this annoying rivalry that is circling around Joe,” Aesha interviews. “When people are emotionally distracted, it’s not like you can discipline them out of their emotions. Put on your game face, and let’s focus on the guests who are paying a lot of money to be here.”

But Ellie can’t let it go. As she prepares to go with the guests on a cave excursion, she starts in again.

“By the way,” she tells Aesha, “Bri also mentioned that she’s been fired from a boat before for causing too much drama.” Who’s causing the drama now, Elena?

“Really?” Aesha says, pretending to care. “I’m sorry, but we’re on charter … We have to focus on the guests.”

Iain annoys the Captain

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9 Bosun Iain.

Meanwhile, Iain has his own problems. He told his crew to blow up the floating dock upstairs so it would be “out of the way.” But this doesn’t fly with Captain Sandy who thinks it’s messy to store things in the guest area. She’s right.

She tells Iain to move it down to the swim deck, where it belongs. Joe’s happy cause that’s what he tried to tell Iain in the first place. He feels vindicated.

Finally, when the deck crew is situated and ready to go on the excursion, Iain tells Aesha they’re ready for the guests.

“Well, go and get them!” she tells him. It’s like he’s never been a bosun before.

When Sandy tells him, “We need to get quicker at this,” his argument is, “I just had a different plan in my head …”

“Well, your plan wasn’t working,” Sandy says. “[The swim deck] always goes in [the water] first. That’s just how it works.”

That’s just yachting on Below Deck Mediterranean

Bri doing laundry on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9.

While Ellie’s off the boat with the guests, Aesha meets with Bri in the upstairs pantry. Aesha doesn’t want to get into the details of their fight while they’re on charter. But she says Ellie mentioned that Bri slept in the boys’ cabin again last night.

“Why are you doing that?” the Chief Stew wants to know.

Bri explains that she just needed some space from Ellie, and it was fun to sleep in the boys’ cabin.

“Are you doing it to prove a point to Ellie?” Aesha asks.

“No, I’ve tried saying something to her, but she doesn’t want to hear it.”

Aesha tells Bri she needs to sleep in her own cabin, partly to pacify Ellie but also because they’re on charter and they all need their rest. When Bri complains about having to share a cabin with someone who’s so different than her, Aesha responds, “But that’s yachting. If you guys can’t sort your sh*t out, I’m gonna have to make some changes … I can’t have you guys fighting all season.”

So the next time Ellie comes in giving Bri orders about getting ready for dinner, Bri decides the best way to get along is to just say, “Aye aye, Second Stew … Whatever Ellie wants, I will do.”

Sounds like a plan.

Ellie makes excuses

Ellie in a promo shot for Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9.

When Aesha returns from break, she’s surprised that Ellie hasn’t yet decorated the dinner table, like she told her to. She asks Bri what they’re up to, and Bri says they’re “pulling plates” for dinner.

“Why wasn’t that done ages ago?” Aesha asks. She asked Ellie to pull everything for dinner nearly three hours ago. What’s Ellie been doing?

“It’s difficult with Ellie,” Aesha interviews. “I don’t know if she’s distracted, or if she’s just not as capable as she lets on. I’ve just always got to keep an eye on Bri and Ellie, and it’s exhausting … How about doing your job? Just work!”

When Aesha locates Ellie and asks why the plates aren’t yet pulled for dinner, Ellie says, “Because I was serving the guests the whole time.”

“You couldn’t do it in between serving them?” her boss asks.

“And then I was cleaning up the bar,” Ellie says, “and it just didn’t happen yet.” She sounds like she’s making excuses.

“We need to be completely done in an hour,” Aesha concludes, walking off to pull plates for the chef.

After she leaves, Ellie mutters, “Well, I’ll be finished in an hour. I just didn’t have the time.”

“Time has definitely gotten away from me,” Ellie says in a confessional. “But at the same time, Bri is just literally getting away with murder.” Literally, Ellie?! That’s one of my biggest pet peeves. Who did Bri “literally” murder, Ellie?

While Bri’s “getting away with murder,” Ellie goes on, “I’m out here getting put on a cross for, like, the smallest mistake. It’s bullsh*t.” Are we starting to detect a bit of a bad attitude with Ellie? I just hope Aesha starts to see it, too.

Joe considers switching girls

Below Deck Mediterranean's infamous Joe Bradley.

In the meantime, Joe repeats his earlier conversation in the tender with Ellie for Gael. He says he wanted to get her side of the story. He asked her, “Why’s [Bri] got to sleep in my cabin? What’s going on?”

Elle told him that Bri broke girl code by making out with him, and now Bri’s “playing the victim.” Um, isn’t Ellie also playing the victim here? I mean, with the cross and all.

“But that’s between them two,” Joe finishes. Um, no it’s not. The whole crew seems to be involved at this point. He also thinks they’re being “unprofessional” and “very immature.”

Gael reminds him there’s always “two sides to a story,” and they really don’t know the whole story. But Joe thinks he does. Mostly because he wants to get into her pants.

“And it’s all over you, man!” Gael teases.

Then he asks for her advice. “If there’s any potential with Elle, do I crack on with that?”

“Whoever you’re gonna bang,” Gael advises, “it’s either gonna be the person you continue to bang, or it’s gonna cause a lot of [trouble].” He can’t go back and forth between the two girls, or it will be an all-out war.

The anchor goes rogue on Below Deck Mediterranean

Captain Sandy on Below Deck Med talking into a walkie talkie

When Captain Sandy’s ready to haul up the anchor, Joe realizes the starboard windlass isn’t working. He radioed Sandy, “Captain, I have no power on the windlass.” The “windlass” is like a big spool that winds up the anchor chain. One of the engineers suggests they use the port windlass with a line to haul the anchor up.

“Worst case scenario,” Sandy says, “if I can’t get the anchor off the bottom, I have to leave the anchor.”

One of the other engineers discovers that the windlass batteries were left on overnight, “so it’s probably run flat.” Sandy’s not happy about this. “Seriously? F*ck!” she exclaims.

The batteries are also dead in the tender. Sounds like somebody f*cked up shutting things down last night. “Who left the battery on?” Sandy wants to know. “Who was the last one to dock the tender?”

Neither Joe nor Nathan can remember, so Sandy tells Joe to go wake up Iain. When Iain checks in with the captain, she asks him, “Who was the last one in the tender?”

“Probably me,” he confesses.

“You’ve got to turn off the battery,” she says. No excuses. She just needs him to “go sort that out.”

But when they try to haul up the anchor using the other windlass, the skinny-ass little rope they tied to the chain snaps like a rubber band, sending the anchor into free fall.

“Put the brake on!” Sandy screams. “Stop the anchor! Stop the anchor!”

But the chain continues to unwind, faster and faster. There’s no stopping it.

Below Deck Mediterranean Recap: Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Portrait of Brian Moylan

Below Deck Mediterranean

Below Deck Mediterranean - Season 9

This episode should have been called “Trauma Dump,” because that is what we got from the crew members. They are in seemingly innocuous situations and then they launch the kind of sob story that’s usually reserved for lesser episodes of Dr. Phil .

Gael is on the tender with Ellie and Joe, taking the guests snorkeling in a lovely cave on the Greek coast. We see her swimming with fins underwater and enjoying being in the sea. “Being underwater is the first place I ever felt safe and at peace with myself,” she says. Oh, that’s so cute and lovely. But why? Oh, because she had a difficult childhood growing up half Asian and socially awkward, so all the other kids were mean to her. First of all, sorry. Second of all, damn. That is dark and made me enjoy her underwater swimming a lot less.

But don’t worry, Bri also has terrible stories about her youth. When she and Ellie are at odds once again, Ellie accuses her of not being able to understand hierarchy. She says she does because she went to boarding school as a kid, and they all had to defer to any girl older than them. If she was at the door and there was an upperclassman nearby, she had to wait for them to go through the door first, or else she’d be bullied. First of all, sorry. Second of all, damn. That’s really messed up. I thought boarding school was just privilege and playing disgusting party games. Now there’s bullying, too?

Things have to turn around, though, right? This whole episode can’t be terrible childhood stories. When the guests request the crew sing “Happy Birthday” for two of their cohort, Aesha enlists hunky deckhand Joe to play the piano while they all sing. We learn that Joe is a performer who plays multiple instruments, including the guitar and the piano. Like most guys, he learned to play the guitar so he could get laid, right? Wrong! He learned how to play because his mother suffers from fibromyalgia and was bedridden for most of his life, so he had to learn how to keep her happy while she was in bed. First of all, sorry. Second of all, damn. I’m glad he can play all of those instruments, but no one wants to be driven to the arts in a desperate attempt to preserve his mother’s mortality.

That’s enough for one episode, right? We have to get back to normal with the chef fucking things up and the crew being a little too lazy. Speaking of which, Gael is working on deck, and her co-workers and Captain Sandy praise her efforts. That has to come from a solid work ethic installed by her parents. I’m sure. Has to be. No, wait, it’s because on her last boat, she was carrying a big block of metal (who carries a big block of metal?) and she dropped it on her ankle and needed 16 stitches and a skin graft to recover. First of all, sorry. Second of all, please stop. This is all too much. And there were pictures! Pictures of her bloodied ankle, and we didn’t even get a trigger warning.

When Ellie gets in the water to swim into the cave, she tells us she’s not a very strong swimmer. I braced myself against the couch. It’s going to be because her uncle died in the 2004 Thailand tsunami, and now she’s scared of the water. No, wait. Maybe she had to watch her sister drown on the shore because neither of them could swim, and as her sister went under, Ellie thought to herself, I will do this for her. I will never learn to swim . That has to be it, right? Maybe she just listened to “ In the Air Tonight ,” by Phil Collins, one too many times, and she’s scared of drowning? (Even though that urban legend isn’t true .) Thankfully, no. There was no explanation. Maybe she just doesn’t like getting her hair wet, like that one guest who looks like the ghost of the Old Navy Lady .

The episode wasn’t all about the staff’s past traumas. (I was waiting for Captain Sandy to tell us her story about hitting rock bottom!) We also got some more of the drama between Bri and Ellie, though it’s mostly wound up. I think the biggest takeaway from this is just how well Aesha handled the whole situation. Ellie complains to Aesha that Bri says Ellie “belittles” her, and Aesha asks, “Well, did you?” It’s a very valid question, but Ellie says no. Ellie also complains about Bri sleeping in the boys’ room, something Nathan and Joe would complain to Aesha about themselves if they knew they could.

Aesha then asks Bri why she’s sleeping in the boys’ room. Bri tells her it’s because Joe asked her, and she thought it was fun. Okay, that’s was the first night. What about the second night? Aesha tells Bri to knock it off and get in her bed. In both of these instances, she tells Ellie and Bri just to suck it up while the guests are there and that they’ll have a real conversation when they’re off charter. She even gives Bri a high five when she finds out she spent the entire night in her own bed. Aesha seems to already be practicing for raising a 4-year-old.

Because Bri is sleeping in their cabin, it seems like Joe no longer wants to have topless make outs with her in the hot tub. Also, Ellie seems very concerned with how Joe sees her and doesn’t want him to think she’s belittling anyone because she still hopes she’ll get one of the famous Scouse tongue lashings she’s heard all about. (What she doesn’t know is that refers to a Scouser drunkenly yelling at you for two hours, not them using their tongue in more intimate places.) When they’re away at the cave with the guests, Ellie tells Joe that she finds him attractive and is interested in him, so she thinks Bri is mad at her.

Joe, bless his horny little heart, is glad there’s still a chance between him and Ellie. Joe then does the smartest thing that I have ever seen an amorous deckhand on this show do: He asks a woman’s advice on what to do about women. He explains the situation to Gael and asks if he can still crack on with Ellie, and she gives him some excellent advice: “If you want to bang her, make sure she’s the person you want to keep banging, or else it’s going to cause trouble.” Perfect. She is exactly correct. Excellent job all around. Now Joe should carry a big block of metal so that Gael is saved from any more trauma she might have to get over later.

As for the guests on the charter, they seem mostly fine and well behaved, except for the primary, Brittany, who gets wasted at dinner and decides to go full Kyle Richards, doing the splits when no one asked her to. They also seem to like Jono’s food and presentation. Captain Sandy, who is not above running plates to the guests herself, seems satisfied, and he’s not currently fired, but I have a feeling it’s coming.

The biggest drama was at the end of the episode, and it had something to do with a windlass. I hate when there is actual boat drama rather than interpersonal drama. Two stews yelling at each other over a man we know something about. We’ve seen it before, we may have even lived it before, so we can all be experts on how people should behave. But when something goes wrong with the boat? No clue. Totally — excuse the pun — at sea. I have never heard of a windlass until now, and I’m still not entirely clear about what it does. It winds the anchor, I guess?

All I know is that when you see the actual crew on the boat, the ones who aren’t usually on-camera, you know shit is serious. This week, we got to meet not one, but three . There’s Luka, the second engineer, trying to put a wind on the other windlass so they can pull up the Starburst anchor. Wait, it’s starboard , and not named after candy? Whatever. Then we see Piers, the second officer, hop into the tender, but the battery is dead because Iain is a dolt who is horrible at his job and left it on all night. Then we see Ivan, the first officer, show up and order everyone around as the line on the second windlass snaps and the anchor drops all the way to the bottom of the ocean. It probably did that because it has abandonment issues from when its mother took it to its first swimming lesson and just threw it in the deep end without any warning. I tell you, everything that happened this episode is due to trauma.

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 6 Recap: Free-Falling

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

"In my experience, when it forms a line like that, it's usually a sign of infection. And it feels like there's still some glass in there," she explains to her boss as a video of the recent incident plays. In case you missed it, during the last charter, Aesha cut her finger on a broken martini glass.

"Maybe we just send you ashore, get the glass cut out, and get it wrapped," replies the captain, who adds in a confessional interview that if Aesha develops an infection and can't work the next charter, it would be "catastrophic." Then, she lists the exact reasons why.
