Yacht Charter Kos

Kos Yacht Charter

Kos is the second largest after Rhodes and second most visited Dodecanese island in Greece. The harbour is guarded by an imposing castle of the Knights of St John, the streets are lined with Italian built public buildings, and minarets and palm trees punctuate extensive Hellenistic and Roman remains. Kos is the most fertile of the archipelago, blessed with rich soil and abudunt ground water lacking of the wild beauty of Rhodes.

Except in Kos Town and Mastihari, there are few independent travellers, and from mid-July to mid-September the island is overcrowded. The tourist industry is juxtaposed rather bizarrely with cows munching amid baled hay near olive groves, and Greek Army tanks exercising in the volcanic badlands around the airport.

Like Tilos further south, Kos never had to earn its living from the sea and consequently has little in the way of a maritime tradition or a contemporary fishing fleet. All these peculiarities acknowledged, Kos is still worth a few days’ time while island-hopping: its few mountain villages are appealing, the tourist infrastructure excellent and swimming opportunities limitless – about half the island’s perimeter is fringed by beaches of various sizes, colors and consistencies.

Almost three quarters of the island’s working people are directly engaged in tourism, and the scale of demand tells you something about Kos’s beauty and attractions, Kos has been inhabited for roughly 10,000 years, and has for a significant portion of that time been both an important center of commerce and a line of defense. Its population in ancient times may have reached 100,000, but today it is less than a third of that number. Across the millennia, the unchallenged favorite son of the island has been Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, who has left his mark not only on Kos but also on the world. The principal attractions of Kos are its antiquities, most notably the Asklepion and its beaches where at summer are very swamped.

Kos is part of the Dodecanese island chain in the southeastern Aegean Sea, off the Anatolian coast of Turkey. The specific geographical coordinates are 36°53’12.1″N 27°16’55.6″E.

Positive Customer Review: "One of the most memorable parts for me was the launch. I went with my wife, and Benetti had a Roman Catholic priest bless the yacht. It was very beautiful with all the Italian music and then the British national anthem, and it was all very unexpected. I thought I was just going to be putting the boat in the water, but in fact it turned into a very emotional day!" - Owner of a Benetti called motor yacht 11:11

Motor yacht daloli, mega yacht axioma, explore the dodecanese islands from kos.

There are charter flights from most European countries to Kos, or you can take a 50-minute connection flight from Athens Airport to get there.

As the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of medicine, Kos is an important crossroads of civilizations from neolithic times to the end of 20th-century colonialism. Even though Italian neo-colonial buildings still dominate central spots of the city with their unique and beautiful architectural style, Kos boasts striking remnants of ancient monuments from diverse civilizations.

Kos is the ideal place to rent a yacht if you want to explore the Dodecanese Islands , including popular destinations like Rhodes and Patmos and more laid-back destinations such as Leros, Symi, and Tilos.

You can get to Kos by charter flights from most European countries or by a short 50-minute connecting flight from Athens Airport.

We have a Motor Yacht and Gulet Fleet in Kos.

Yacht Charter Kos Island

Motor yachts , gulets , sailing yachts and catamarans are available for yacht charter or bareboat rental in Kos. Special yacht charter offers are also available, including private day trips/tours and rentals for company outings, weddings, and honeymoon journeys.

No matter what time of year, getting to Kos Marina is a great experience.

The Marina and its immediate environment, situated on the northeast aspect of Kos, provides a range of sightseeing, shopping, and dining choices. From Kos Airport, it is a mere 22 kilometres away, a 30-minute taxi ride.

Upon your arrival, we can arrange for you to be picked up at the airport by VIP cars with one of our reputable partners, so please let us know the details, and we will advise you appropriately. Public transport is also available.

There are four different cruise excursions to choose from when visiting Kos.

The island of Kos is located in the centre of the Dodecanese group, where sailors can enjoy sailing, historical adventures, nightlife, serenity, and the tranquillity of numerous isolated coves, or all of the above. All of the exotic, distinctive Dodecanese islands are worth visiting and sailing around. Because seeing all of the wonders of the Dodecanese is time-consuming, our first and foremost recommendation is to reserve enough time.

The Dodecanese Northern Islands

The islands of Kalymnos, Leros, and Patmos, all of which are north of Kos, are the destinations of many sailing itineraries. You may take as much time as you want to explore them, or we can provide suggestions if you are stuck for ideas.

Dodecanese Islands in Southern Greece

The Dodecanese islands are filled with history and life, and Kos is just one of them! A sailing route from Kos to Rhodes will usually include the island of Symi, which is renowned for its colourful architecture and picturesque harbour, and Nysiros, where an active volcano is still active! Those with an open itinerary may also charter a boat in Rhodes and return to Rhodes on a one-way charter.

The Meltemi annual wind that blows from the North West in the summer is the prevailing wind in the region. During autumn and spring, the wind usually blows from the South East at force 2-4. The Dodecanese Islands offer numerous bays and safe anchorages if the wind is severe.

Top destinations

A big island, 45kms long by 11kms wide, Kos has some 115kms of coastline – most of which is sandy beach washed by warm clear waters. For the most part it’s a place to kick-back and chill out and simply live like a Greek for a while. That said, the island has history and culture dating back over 5,000 years and was the home of Hippocrates – the father of modern medicine – who had his healing centre, the Asklepion here. You see where he taught and there are Greek and Roman ruins to view.

If you’re not sailing, it’s an easy place to get to. You can fly direct or get the liner down from Athens. Perhaps due to this the main harbour at Kos town, at the north-east corner of the island, has become something of a party place, popular with the young, with bustling clubs and loud music in what is known as ‘Bar Street’. It’s also popular with cyclists.

Elsewhere it’s altogether quieter. Along the north coast you’ll find a choice of moorings with a real Greek ambience in places like Mastihari, Marmari and Tigaki. This is the area to come for authentic fresh fish, ouzo, souvlaki and octopus.

Kos is pretty much at the centre of the Dodecanese. So you have Kalymnos and Leros to the north and Nisiros, Tilos and Rhodes in the south. It’s also an ideal jumping-off point to the amazing town of Bodrum in Turkey.

Our recommendation: If you’re island-hopping cruising in the Dodecanese and looking for a party, you’ll find one in Kos Town. If you want to explore the Dodecanese using the local island ferries it’s a great place to start and end your voyage of exploration.

The third largest island of the Dodecanese Islands, Kos is a holiday destination in its own right. Inhabited for more than 5,000 years and at different times administered by nearby Turkey and Athens, it has many sights, sounds and tastes from ancient ruins to the very food you eat!

Marketing itself as a sustainable island, Kos has a 13km cycle track for you to explore the world beyond your luxury yacht. Thanks to its mountainous interior, walking and mountain biking are draws here too. Thanks in part due to its beautiful beaches, the tourism economy dominates life here today, and with Kos Airport being served by many European airlines every year, millions get to enjoy this beautiful island just off the Turkish coast.

The southeastern Aegean Sea is a yacht charterers paradise with much to explore even without leaving Greek waters. The larger neighbouring island of Rhodes is a draw to many as a yacht charter destination, and is a half day's sail to the east. If you want to visit a smaller island you will be spoiled for choice too, with a variety where you may find beautiful beaches all to yourself. Others are renowned for their climbing, while others still have great spots to enjoy snorkeling, paddle boarding and other things in and on the water.

Out of your base at Kos Town, the main town on the island, your Kos catamaran charter could well be the beginning of an ideal yacht holiday. Read on to find out more!

Crewed Catamaran Charters from Kos

You don't need to worry about qualifications or even sailing the boat in the Dodecanese Island chain with Borrow a Boat! A Kos crewed catamaran charter on a motor yacht or sailing catamaran can mean you do as much or as little physically sailing the yacht as you like on your yacht charter holiday.

A skippered yacht charter or will mean that the skipper will be aboard with their own cabin to attend to all your needs. A crewed yacht charter or gulet charter will involve one or two crew on the gulet charter who will cook, sail and make suggestions as to your best destinations on your sailing itinerary. With their local knowledge, even if you're an experienced sailor you can enjoy a perfect yacht charter holiday.

One of the advantages of a crewed yacht charter vacation is that you can go longer distances from the yacht charterbase. The Saronic Islands are within reach, as are the Cyclades and indeed Crete.

As to you? You can just enjoy the breezes and views on your luxury yacht charter, or if you fancy learning a bit about sailing, help the skipper or crew to get the boat from A-B.

A Kos crewed yacht charter will cost a little more (typically €150 a day for a skipper and €100 per crew member) and it's the done thing to thank them with a tip at the end of the week.

Bareboat Catamaran Charter From Kos

A bareboat yacht charter vacation will mean that you can take the charter yacht out on your own. Generally for vessels up to 20 metres LOA on a sailing license such as an RYA Day Skipper or ASA 104 Bareboat certificate, you will have total responsibility for the yacht.

You will need to think about your itinerary, victualling, possible secondary ports should a marina be full, as well as issues like weather and mooring fees.

On a bareboat catamaran charter you will be asked to pay for insurance in the form of a security deposit to the charter company on departure or through buying charter insurance before you leave the yacht charter base.

Types of Catamarans Available For Rent Or Charter In Kos:

When searching a geographical area on Borrow A Boat you can filter by the below charter yacht types. There is also the option to further filter your searches by price, the number of guests, cabins or bathrooms, what year the catamaran was launched, the boat length and the boat manufacturer.

Types of Catamarans Available:

Sailing Catamarans: Luxury catamarans are stable and spacious type of sailing boat, with quick sailing performance, and and have been gaining in popularity in recent years. Better for larger groups, they have lots of room for water toys, and are big enough for a little privacy. A catamaran charter luxury yacht is easy and comfortable for novices not used to heeling and are loved by families due to their extra space when compared to a monohull sailing yacht. Typically far more luxurious than a sailboat, the larger catamarans have en suite toilets and showers in the cabin as well as ample entertaining space in the saloon and on deck.

Power Catamarans: These motor yacht catamarans are relatively new but have also been gaining in popularity as the two hulls keep the boat more stable when compared to a monohull. The wider beam of these motor boats also mean more deck space and as they don't have sails or a mast, they have a lot more space on deck than a sailing catamaranrental or monohull. For a luxury catamaran charter, consider taking a crewed catamaran charter sailing vacation with an experienced skipper.

Catamaran Sailing Itineraries From Kos

On your crewed catamaran boat rental or bareboat charter sailing vacation you can explore the Dodecanese island group to your heart's content. Here we suggest a 7 day sailing holiday and a 14 day yacht charter holiday on your charter boat:

7 Days - Rhodes and smaller islands: The mid point of the sailing holiday will be popular Rhodes to the south. The smaller islands of Nisiros and Symi close to the Turkish coast will be your first two evening destinations, and then two days on Rhodes itself. Chalki and then Tilos to the west will be your next evenings ashore before returning to Kos Town for handover.

14 Days - Cyclades and Dodecanese: This might be better on a gulet charter with crew to handle the sailing as there are some longer legs. Over these two weeks afloat on your boat rental you will head out to Naxos and Paros in the Cyclades island group as your mid-point. Stopping at Tilos and Asypalea for your first two evenings you then head to the Cyclades islands of Amorgos, Paxos and then Paros. The beautiful island of Antiparos is world renowned for the cuisine here, and with a full belly (and possibly a sore head!), head to the somewhat quieter Ios the next day. Anofi will be your next island destination, and then back into the Dodecanese island group to Karpathos to the south of Rhodes. Halki and Symi will be your next evenings ashore and then back to Kos Town for handover.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Catamaran In Kos?

If you are on a skippered catamaran charter you do not need a license to sail out of Kos, you can just turn up at the marina and go.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat catamaran charter and in some countries such as Greece a day skipper or ICC may not be enough for boats over 45 feet in length, you will need to check with the charter agent but here are some examples of typical sailing qualifications that will allow you to charter in most countries:

International Certificate of Competence: This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will typically be able to take a bareboat charter out of Rhodes (but it is worth checking as per above), these include Day Skipper (sail or motor endorsement), Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted but also check as per above

US Sailing : The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company and they can typically send someone from the charter base

Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool in the evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. If you choose to have a skipper on board your catamaran you won't require licences.

Kos island has evidence of human civilisation dating back 5,000 years. Ancient Greek philosopher and father of modern medicine Hippocrates spent time there, and you can visit Asklepieion that followed the great man's priciples of treatment in ancient times.

As well as Ancient Greek relics you can see buidings, castles and churches left by the Venetians, Ottomans, and Knights of St John as well. The Ottomans have some of the greatest modern influence on the Greek island thanks to it lying just an hour by ferry off the Turkish coast.

Kos is today a major holiday resort, only slightly lying behind nearby Rhodes in terms of annual visitor numbers. The more you look the more you will understand why - there's many a beautiful sandy beach (both organised and unorganised), nightlife to suit many a taste, and a natural beauty that will satisfy everyone.

Kos is regarded as a cycling island for getting around. There is a 13km cycle track for those who wish to stretch their legs, and for those into mountain biking the mountainous inland will definitely appeal. Getting about by bike is a greener way of exploring the island and thanks to cycling's popularity.

Though you will inevitably enter Kos Town (you are on a sailing holiday) you should also visit nearby Kardamena. Kardamena Bay has a small harbour but is where a theatre from ancient times has recently been excavated, there are several important churches but at the same time there is very good entertainment and modern infrastructure.

On a Kos yacht charter you can take in whatever floats your boat from modern relaxation to ancient wonders!

Explore Kos By Renting A Yacht

The Dodecanese Islands are traditionally seven islands but a Kos yacht charter can involve landing on a few more than that even without leaving the archipelago. Leaving the island's main marina in Kos Town you will be able to head NW or SE to follow the line of islands according to what you want.

Heading NW on your charter yacht the first island you will run into is the mountainous island of Kalymnos, a major international climbing centre. Mooring in Agia Marina, Leros - the next island is famed for its stunning villages and beautiful beaches as is the next island Lipsi. Patmos is a religious centre and is said to be where St John the Apostle was inspired to write the Book of Revelations from his visit to the Cave of the Apocalypse.

Almost as north west as you can get in the Dodecanese, Ikaria is one of five 'Blue Zone' islands in the world where people live the longest and healthiest lives on the planet. Thanks to its governance it is also one where tourism isn't too much of an industry, allowing its natural wonders to flourish and indeed those who are lucky enough to call it home.

Heading south west you can go to Rhodes with its ancient ruins and wonderful beaches. Other islands in the chain in that direction are Nisyros with its volcanic landscape, Tilos with its astounding scenery and Byzantine churches, and Halki that has only recently been re-inhabited.

A Dodecanese island sailing holiday, be it a bareboat yacht charter, gulet or skippered yacht charter, will often be in the teeth of the strong and steady Meltemi but this has in fact made the region one of the favoured destinations for yachtcharter enthusiasts. You will be confident of the wind through most of the summer and the sights, sounds, tastes and smells will make it a sailing vacation to remember.

How To Get To Kos

Three major airports can be used to access Kos - Kos Airport, Bodrum in Turkey and Rhodes Airport.

Kos Airport

This is served by many European airlines throughout the summer and a bus service runs to Kos Town.

Bodrum Airport, Turkey

Though Kos is technically in Greece, the Turkish coast is far closer than the Greek mainland. You can fly into Bodrum Airport in Turkey, taking a ferry and a bus/taxi on to Kos Town. Bodrum is closer than Rhodes.

Rhodes Airport

This has a large number of daily flights from much of Europe, and you can take a ferry to Kos to join your Dodecaneseyacht charter from there.

Marinas In Kos

There are several smaller marinas on Kos Island but only one with a substantial number of berths. Yacht charter companies offer gulet , catamaran , monohull sailing boat and motor yacht hire out of Marina Kos that are available as a bareboat charter, skippered yacht charter or crewed yacht charter.

Marina Kos:

Capable of taking a luxury yacht of 60 metres, this is a very well equipped marina with its own beach.

Berth Characteristics:

Max Length 60m (196 Feet)

Max Draught 5m (16.4 Feet)

List of additional services: Shore power, water, Wifi, showers, toilets, laundry, wastewater collection, recycling and refuse collection, market, supermarket, bar, restaurant, car rental, beach, ATM, yacht repair.

Suggested Sailing Routes From Kos

The Meltemi blows from the north-east. This is why heading up to the north-west Dodecanese islands on a sailing yacht is going to appeal more on an 'uphill-downhill' route. You can also head south-east on a 'downhill-uphill' route but that will often involve beating in the latter half of the week when you are a little more tired.

7 days - Kos to Ikaria and back: This route involves island hopping north-west and then back south-west to Kos Town. Heading upwind then down you will spend days in Kalymnos, Leros, Limnos and Patmos, with no more than 35-40NM of sailing per day at a stretch.

14 days - Dodecanese circuit: This is an opportunity to sail north as far as Ikaria and south as far as Rhodes. You will see the very best of the island chain including the churches, mountains and exquisite beaches of the smaller islands yet have time to take in the tourist resorts of Kos and Rhodes as you go. You will get some good reaching in as you head out to Astipalea and Nisyros on two legs heading east but beating and running on different legs too.

Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Kos

The sailing season runs from late April to October with July and August being the busiest months for yacht charter. Meltemi winds can make for exciting sailing in July and August when you honestly just want to hide from the heat.

The sea is cooler - often quite chilly - at the beginning of the sailing season but there is rainfall in Spring. As the days lengthen you will still see green fields and flowers in May and the winds can be quite benign too. Combined with the crowds being smaller, this suggests that May to early June are the sweet spot for a Cos yacht charter.

Come September and October the seas are still like a warm bath. However, there are often water shortages on the islands and everything looks parched.

Sailing Weather In Kos

April to mid-June: There is rainfall and the temperatures build steadily from the mid-teens to the mid 20 degrees C range. There are sometimes gentle southerly winds, though these are replaced by ever stronger N-NW Meltemi winds that are rarely hazardous but make for exciting sailing at times.

Late June-August: You'll be unlucky if you see any rain, though it could be welcome in the summer heat, temperatures are in the 30s.

September-October: The seas remain warm and the Meltemi eases. These months can be the best time of year to sail as the temperatures are often in the comfortable low to mid-20s.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

There are four marinas on Kos Island. However the yacht charter centre is Marina Kos in Kos Town, but it is worth a sail to the smaller ones - the 25 berth Kardemena Marina is in the centre of a town that's quite different to Kos Town.

Why go in the busiest months of July and August? The Meltemi is at its strongest then too. Going in September when the kids are at school you will find the seas still warm, the air not so hot and the winds gentler. Did we mention the crowds are thinner too?!

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

A great place for yachting in Kos

Kos covers an area of only 290 square kilometers and is one of the smallest Greek islands. The small size of the island does not mean that it is less interesting and fun. Each year, more than 60,000 tourists come to Kos for a holiday. Kos is also relatively narrow. From east to west, the island is only about ten kilometers wide. From north to south - 50 kilometers.

Almost the whole life of the island takes place on its coasts along the sea, especially in the summer all attention is paid to the incredible beaches of Kos. Fine sand and pebble beaches allow you to choose which kind of shore you want, and provide enough space for any kind of water sport. Water skiing, scuba diving, sailing and surfing, almost all water sports are possible on Kos. Over the past ten years, the wind has especially transformed Kos into surf el Dorado. Favorable winds create ideal conditions for excitement that surfers from around the world will appreciate. The average temperature is 21ºC (70ºF), the pleasant climate makes the island, along with its neighbors, one of the most popular holiday destinations among boating enthusiasts who want a cool breeze to blow through their hair on a hot summer day. The airport in Kos is conveniently located in the center of the island, and the main city can be reached in just 30 minutes.

Why are yachts interesting in Kos?

This is the first large marina, which allows you to anchor all types of yachts throughout the year. The old town is just a few minutes walk from the main part of the city and offers you a pleasant walk along the renovated promenade. Here you can also buy fresh grapes, almonds, figs and olives grown on the island.

The ideal entry point to the east coast of Kos is, of course, a modern marina, one of the best of its kind in Greece. More than 200 sailboats and catamarans moor here and are waiting for the next rental of a yacht on azure waters. From Kos you can make many wonderful cruises, including longer ones. Prior to Turkey, only seven nautical miles and other route suggestions, such as excursions to many Greek islands, can be reached relatively quickly. In the north, the choice is great: Kalimos, Leros, Patmos or Samos attract travelers with their breathtaking landscapes. In the south of Tilos, Chalki, Symi and Rhodes offer popular walking excursions for day trips through the idyllic old cities. Sponge fishing islands are great places for quick excursions. With a suitable sailing yacht or high-speed catamaran,

Yacht Charter Kos

Kos, the capital and main port of Kos Island, is on the north-east coast very close to the Turkish coast. It is a beautiful city, lush and green with palm lined beaches, a mountainous backdrop and interesting archeological sites from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. There are some particularly good mosaics to be found as well as some early Christian churches with impressive frescoes.

This busy tourist centre also offers a lively nightlife and good culinary scene and is one of the main charter bases in the Aegean; an excellent base for a sailing holiday around the Dodecanses island complex. Kos island, birthplace of Hippocrates and site of one of the first hospitals at Asklepion, is the third largest island in the Dodecanese and there are excellent sailing opportunities around the island and further afield. Leros, Kalymnos and Patmos are to the north and Tilos, Rhodes , Symi and Karpathos are to the south, plus thousands of smaller islands, islets and rocky outcrops.

Walking distance from the historic Kos Old Town is the full-service Kos Marina. From here you can sail to the lesser known islands of the Dodecanese that are hard to reach without a yacht.

Kos has an international airport; about 23 km away that services many Greek and European cities. Ferries run between Kos and the port of Piraeus all year round. Both high speed and conventional ferries that carry vehicles run this route. There are also passenger ferries from neighbouring islands and also from Turkey.

Sailing conditions

Kos is an excellent sailing destination for bareboat yacht charter . Sailors wanting guaranteed wind and longer passages will enjoy the sailing between the unspoilt and varied Dodecanese islands. The prevailing 'Meltemi' wind blows all summer from the NW. Force 4 to 6, offering exhilarating sailing. It can reach Force 7 and sometimes blows for days.

Many think that the beaches of Kos are the most beautiful in Greece. This is not a coincidence since these beaches are covered in soft sand carpets washed by crystal blue water.

Mastichari Beach Kos:

The Mastichari beach lies 27 kilometre southward from the city of Kos. White sand and emerald water turn this place into an exotic paradise. In the middle of the seacoast, there are many colourful deck chairs and beach umbrellas. Sports opportunities are also available. Trees provide shading in the neighbouring areas. The settlement is around the gulf and has several accommodations, restaurants, cafes, and shops. Most people visit the beach during the day. The small port of the village provides a connection to the island of Kalymnos. You can explore nearby islands and gulfs alone or with your family if you rent a boat.

Thermes Beach Kos:

Thermes is one of the most idyllic places on the island of Kos. It’s a beautiful, sandy beach with steep rocks and clean, dark water around it. It’s 12 km from the city of Kos. In front of the beach, there’s the famously hot, round lake, protected by rocks. Hot water mingles with seawater in this pool, offering a natural warm bath. The Thermes offers one of the most joyful experiences for the body and soul and serves as a perfect therapeutic method for all visitors.

Paradise Beach Kos:

Paradise is among the most popular beaches in Kos. It’s 30 km from Kos, and 7 km from Kefalos. No wonder why the beach got its name: this section of the coast has an excellent combination of white sand and crystal water. The beach is well-equipped with umbrellas, a sun deck, and a watersport centre. It attracts many visitors from day to day. Several inns with fresh fish and Greek cuisine are waiting for gourmets as well.

Kos has a rich historical heritage. The modern city was built in the ancient town. Amazing ruins provide time travel to tourists, like the temple of Aphrodite or the sanctuary of Hercules. The ancient Agora stands as proof of the glorious past. The island is most famous for being the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Here, you can view the Platan tree under which he taught his disciples. To this day it stands next to the entrance of the Neratzia Castle, in the centre of Kos. The water of the fountain here is said to be therapeutic.

Which period is best to sail in Kos?

The Greek coast has a Mediterranean climate . The air of the country is very clean and dry from spring to early autumn. There’s a lot of sunshine, while the amount of rain usually decreases from the west to the east. In summer, we almost never see any clouds in the sky. Rain is practically an unknown guest in the summer months. The sea can heat up to 23-25 °C from June to August. Even in October, it’s still 23 °C. The area of Greece is constantly windy, these winds, however, are always changing. The wind that dominates the summer months is called Meltemi . From June, it blows from the northwest and the northeast. It reaches its full strength, from 5 to 8 on the Beaufort scale, in July and August.

The sea-wind comes in late September or early October, which blows from the southeast and the southwest. It’s a specifically southern wind, that dominates mostly in spring and fall with a strength of 2 to 4. Due to Greece’s typical winds, it’s most rewarding to plan a sailing route from the south to the north in spring and autumn, and from the north to the south in summer. The waving is preferable compared to the Croatian archipelago since there’s a greater distance between the Greek islands. The current flows counterclockwise in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin, and northward along the Turkish coast. The water flows southward on the Eastern Greek coasts, but from the west side of the Peloponnese Peninsula northern current dominates.
