Waiting for the wind to fill in

Starboard is the stand on 'plane? In the air don't they pass port to port? And can I have my masthead aerial back please?

Discovered in an old photographic album I purchased for too much money.

Home of the Royal Cornwall yacht Club since 1870

I've been too busy in my new role to take any photos. Part of the new role involves organising the entirely new look Falmouth Classics 3 day event.

Despite a very tight time table, those excellent people at 8Wire have set up a new Falmouth Classics website, Facebook, and Titter pages see falmouthclassics.org.uk/

These posters have been prepared in double quick time so we have some advertising material ready for the Boat Show at Excel. Hope you like the photos

The Prince of Wales's feathers is the heraldic badge of the Heir Apparent to the Commonwealth realms thrones. It consists of three white feathers emerging from agold coronet. A ribbon below the coronet bears the motto Ich dien (a contraction of the German for "I serve", ich diene). As well as being used in royal heraldry, the badge is sometimes used to symbolise Wales, particularly in Welsh rugby union and rugby league; however, its use as such is controversial and rejected by some Welsh nationalists as a symbol of the British monarchy rather than of Wales.

The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club welcomes sailors of all ages and abilities to our club.

Located within a Grade II listed clubhouse on a 17 th  century private quayside, the club overlooks spectacular views of Falmouth, Flushing, Carrick Roads and beyond. RCYC was formed in 1871, and continues to hold close its traditional values whilst extending a warm welcome to new members.

As a club, we enjoy first class sailing. We host regular club racing as well as world-renowned sailing events. Whilst there is a focus on yacht sailing, we are enthusiastic supporters of dinghy sailing and motor boating interests.

Year round the club runs frequent social events including lectures, tuition and charity fundraising events. Our dining and bar facilities are open all year.

One of the most popular homegrown restaurant chains in Cornwall has opened its new premises and has made history while doing it.

Sam's, which runs five diners and bars in the Duchy, has opened its sixth restaurant at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club (RCYC) in Falmouth - meaning non-members are allowed to visit the club for the first time in its history.

Emma Sixton, who runs the business with husband Sam, said: "This is a great new collaboration in an amazing place right on the harbour. It’s been an absolute pleasure working here ... amazing staff. We just need to get word out to the public to let them know they can come in."

Sam’s at The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club serves members and non-members fish and seafood specialities, burgers, meat and vegetarian dishes, alongside afternoon high tea and fizz, tapas and cocktails.

The restaurant , which opened last month, was a regular haunt for the CNN team when the American news station was covering the G7 Summit while based at the yacht club.

Sam's stated: "Feeding and watering up to 28 reporters, correspondents, anchor teams, production team, camera crews, operations, security, engineers, drivers, was an absolute pleasure. An unexpected opportunity we inherited when we joined the RCYC and an absolute pleasure.

"By all accounts CNN would be keen for us to travel and feed them wherever they were in the world."

The venue has already started receive positive reviews, including the two responses below.

"Stunning waterside setting, friendly relaxed service, great food. Chilled rose, delicious garlic bread, perfectly cooked steak and a superb monkfish special. Everything we love about other Sam's venues, but with a more muted yacht club ambience and a view to die for."

"Cracking lunch at the new Sam’s at the RCYC. Lovely staff and fantastic cooking. Give it a go, you won’t regret it!"

Sam's has other restaurants in Fowey (the original business which opened in 1987), on the beach at Polkerris, in the city at Truro and also at Par and on the Roseland peninsula near Veryan.
