111m Project Y722 Oceanco prepares to begin outfitting

Spotted for the first time last week, the 111-metre Oceanco project Y722 has begun the journey to the yard's Alblasserdam site to begin outfitting. She emerged from the shed in Zwijndrecht on June 8 and is expected to see delivery in 2025.

According to the yard, the yacht will engage in scientific research and discovery and will have "innovative technologies" as well as a convention-defying layout that focuses on bringing groups together.  Accommodation is for 22 guests and 33 crew members.

The new build is one of the largest yachts currently under construction at Oceanco and is set to be the third-largest vessel in the shipyard's fleet – by length – following the 127-metre Koru and 117-metre Infinity .

Project Y722 is expected to sit around the 5,000GT mark, which would put her as the largest yacht by volume to be built by Oceanco.

Naval architecture is by Lateral Naval Architects and the project will have an interior by Mark Berryman , whose portfolio includes the 136-metre Lürssen Flying Fox.

Technical details remain sparse, but it is known the yacht will have a diesel-electric power plant and a battery-powered energy storage system which will allow extended periods of emission-free operation. Oceanco has also revealed that the yacht has an advanced wastewater treatment designed to meet high environmental standards.

The yacht is a collaborative effort between Oceanco, YTMC and brokerage firm Y.CO . Charlie Birkett, Y.CO CEO and co-founder said he was "thrilled" to be working on "such a groundbreaking yacht". "This is a project with vast scope and vital ambition", he added. 

Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco CEO, highlighted the yacht's unique layout, philanthropic operation and "future-proof" technical capacities. “At Oceanco, we thrive on working with visionary clients and their teams to build yachts that challenge the status quo and look to the future for inspiration", he said. 

The yacht will also offer an increased focus on silent operation, according to Dan Morgan, YTMC managing director, who highlighted her "industry-leading noise and vibration characteristics". "As technical representatives, we are proud to see the features that we brought to the table and developed during project conception come to life, thanks to the collaboration with Oceanco and the hard work of everyone involved in the build so far. Y722 will certainly be something to be seen... but not heard," he said.

According to BOATPro , Y722 joins one other 100-metre+ yacht in build at Oceanco, known only as Y723. The vessel will be handed over to its owner in 2026.
