DESCRIPTION

A total length of 77 feet 5 inches makes up the Azimut 77S. She has a beam that is 18 feet 3 inches in height and is powered by not two, but three 900-HP Volvo D13-IPS engines. With an innovative engine set up, a ton of luxuries and a fun performance, the Azimut 77S proves that the future in now and ready. There are four cabins aboard the 77S and four heads to go along. There are also crew accommodations. The Master suite is very spacious, the two twin-berth cabins and the VIP cabin are less spacious but well-proportioned making the cabins feel homey and not tight. The galley is also down below, leaving the main deck clear and open for an impressive saloon and dining area. The Azimut 77S handles perfectly even in the toughest of seas and will cruise all day long at 30 knots.

The compact flybridge is a marvelous space from which to command your vessel, featuring an upper helm station with a pair of adjustable piloting seats, with extra room up top for a modular sunpad, a forward sofa and plenty of drinks storage. The most popular outdoor space on the 77S is likely to be the aft deck where a beach club feel predominates, a signature design of the Azimut Yachts shipyard. Here you will find a transom dining sofa and table connecting to a lofty sunpad that juts out across the hydraulic swimming platform, as well as a wet bar console with an outdoor grill. There is also access to a large tender garage big enough to host a rib and a jet-ski which, upon opening, doubles the size of the teak-lined swimming platform. An elongated bow with a truncated pulpit provides extra room at the foredeck for an integral, Portuguese bridge-style sofa that is paired with a spacious sunpad where sun worshippers can soak up the rays for hours on end.

Interiors are the masterful work of Carlo Galeazzi, a showcase of light-toned timber, Zebrano veneered surfaces, white leather detailing and recessed lighting provide a classic and sedate feel. The whole interior space is superbly well-lit with natural light thanks to jagged, geometric windows running across the sides of the cockpit – a work of art in themselves – as well as a skylight and a retractable sunroof above the forward dining lounge and helmstation. The rear salon features an L-shaped sofa with a show-piece Ottoman as well as a Chaise-Longue, while amidship there is a formal dining table and plenty of cabinet space. The main deck helm station benefits from superb visibility, a NAVIOP advanced monitoring system, Penta joystick driving and a set of Penta Active Trim Controls.

The galley is located below deck in order to keep the main deck free for socializing, but is still well-appointed with Miele appliances, a pair of deep sinks and an American-style, full-height fridge-freezer. The rest of the below deck space is given over to sleep accommodation, which includes two staterooms, a pair of twins as well as crew quarters located close to the engine room. The full-beam master stateroom features six-pane mullioned windows, a pair of armchairs, a vanity station or work desk, a king-sized island bed as well as a huge walk-in closet and a lavish en suite bathroom. Because the floor of this master suite sits low in the hull the head clearance is incredibly generous, with the sort of dimensions you would expect from a luxury apartment or a 5-star hotel.

Triple Volvo Penta D13 IPS1350 engines roar the Azimut 77S to top speeds of around 35 knots, proving that performance need not be sacrificed when crafting a yacht of this size and amenity. At cruising speeds of around 7 knots the yacht has an ocean-going range of some 1,700 nautical miles, more than enough to keep you going on your tour of the Aegean or Hawaiian Islands. There is also the option on this vessel of fitting Seakeeper gyro stabilizers for that extra level of stability while out at sea.

At Palm Beach, the yacht’s designers showed initial renderings of the largest-ever Azimut. Marijana Radovic and Marco Bonelli of Milan-based m2atelier were responsible for the interior and Alberto Mancini did the exterior.

Mancini, a veteran yacht designer, told Robb Report that this was only the second yacht of hundreds in his career where he was given carte blanche over the exterior, so it ended up morphing past 40 meters into the Grande 44M. Typically, he said, the shipyard gets involved with the details of the design, and most owners want to have a say, so most designs end up as compromises. This time, says Mancini, Azimut not only left him alone, but let him go wild.

And he did.

The yacht itself is revolutionary in some ways, with a 550-square-foot upper deck that can be converted into an owner’s space—the owner’s “enclave”—with two primary suites and a forward glassed-in area that works as an office or dining room, with the world’s best view. Its four stern decks are tiered, emphasizing large exterior spaces and easy movement between the interior and exterior spaces.

Then there’s the 12-person dining table on the aft cockpit above a swimming pool with a transparent window looking out over the ocean. This optical illusion is one of several wow factors, but mostly the yacht overwhelms with quiet luxury.

Radovic and Bonelli said their goal was to create a simple interior with muted tones and splashes of color, as part of the Azimut DNA. The pair are not yacht designers, so brought a new approach from their residential architecture and private clubs to the design.

“We wanted to clean up the space and enhance it, not overwhelm it,” said Radovic. “For instance, we designed the dining table to be a reflection of the pool, and in every case, we made sure to follow what was happening on the exterior.”

Bonelli added that the goal was to “enhance the flow” between the interior and exterior. “It seems simple, but there’s a lot of effort to finding that balance,” he said.

The shipyard also focused on the technical components of the build, claiming that it will produce 10 to 30 percent fewer fuel emissions than yachts of the same size and displacement. Federico Ferrante, president of Azimut Americas, said the 44M will have a hydrodynamic wing under the dual-mode hull that provides better fuel efficiency at the same speeds. “It also reduces the pitch—the annoying movement of the boat—and smooths out the wake,” said Ferrante.

The 44M also has lithium batteries that allow it to run the boat’s hotel (non-propulsion) load for 4 hours during the day and eight hours at night, at anchor. The vessel also has two electric generators in the shafts that recharge the batteries when under way. “Most yachts typically run their diesel generators 24/7, which causes lots of noise, emissions and cost,” said Ferrante. “This system cuts that in half.”

The 44M’s molds are being constructed at Azimut’s Livornia shipyard in preparation for the first build. The first five units have been sold to current Azimut owners.
