KING BABY ROCK AND ROLL

It seems ironic.  Chinese-built IGA motor yacht KING BABY is an homage to a cultural icon that is distinctly All-American.  That icon is ROCK AND ROLL.  The yacht derives its name from the famous studio in Los Angeles.  The studio designs jewelry for well-known musicians, since the 70’s. The yacht is every bit as bold and original as the jewelry line that shares its name.

There’s a sense of confidence and charisma onboard motor yacht KING BABY, as her layout and design capture the spirit of America with the slightly provocative sex appeal of rock n’ roll.

UNIQUE LOOK

Boldly transforming the expected into something new, 42.67-meter IGA yacht KING BABY owes its unique look to designer Evan Marshall, and the collaborative team he assembled from Slick Design and Palladium Technologies.  Together, they created an interior and exterior focused on originality and distinctive details.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Indoors, Marshall fashioned a modern backdrop, using high-gloss dark walnut, light-hued Majilite, walnut, and onyx floors and wool carpets. Slick Design covered the indoor spaces with vintage rock photos in black alligator leather frames illuminated with LED light panels. Beamy and tall, Marshall took advantage of the seven-plus feet of interior height with mirrors to amplify the space, along with stainless steel and shagreen accents, marine leather on most doors, and Cantalupi lighting.

TECHNOLOGIES

With such a strong musical theme, Marshall knew onboard audio/visual entertainment needed to emulate a concert venue. The task was given to Palladium Technologies, who designed and installed the yacht’s top-notch entertainment system. They built a platform with the latest in monitoring, entertainment, and lighting technology and the IT backbone to support it all.

Nowhere is this better displayed than in the sky lounge, with its 84-inch 4K TV screen (one of 24 onboard), mega sound system, and deep Brentano couch.

EXTERIOR SPACES

Exterior spaces onboard are just as unique as the indoor areas. From the elaborate pattern in the teak decks to the three-tier waterfall cascading from a custom-built Jacuzzi. Specifically clad in mosaics and surrounded by a stylish sun deck bar.  Built for entertainment, King Baby shines.  The yacht’s sundeck features a retractable roof over the sundeck that opens to let in extra sunlight by day or glowing starlight at night.  When things get too hot on deck, a series of misters can be activated to drop the outdoor temperature and humidity.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Accommodations for 10 guests include a full-beam master suite on the main deck. Also, four lower deck guest cabins.

MASTER AND OTHERS

The master features expansive views and a walk-around king-size bed. The ensuite his-and-hers bathroom features a large shower with rainfall head and body sprayers. Two spacious VIP staterooms feature walk-around king beds and 48″ entertainment systems. A third king cabin and a twin cabin round out the accommodation deck.  All cabins feature multiple items. KING BABY is a 144-foot (43.89m) chic, sexy luxury yacht influenced by rock ‘n’ roll and the jewelry line King Baby. Both the exterior and interior were designed by the renowned Evan K. Marshall, who used the aesthetic themes to create a lusciously contemporary luxury yacht. This tri-deck yacht is both tall and beamy with a four-fin “At Rest” stabilizer system making KING BABY extremely stable at anchor and underway. Her exterior spaces are expansive and well suited for entertaining and socializing. The main deck aft has a covered dining area; as does the upper deck, with a variety of seating spaces. This area is air conditioned as well. Forward on the upper deck is built-in seating and sunpads. The sundeck has a Jacuzzi with a three-tier cascading waterfall and swim-up bar, a variety of seating areas, three TVs and a large onyx bar.

The sexy rock ‘n’ roll-inspired interior is unlike that on any other yacht. From Keith Richards’ doors to custom coffee tables to vintage hood ornaments, guitars used as art and other impressive decorative pieces, there is so much to behold. The alluring indoor spaces are comfortable, with an edge of modern seduction. The owners spent months curating classic rock photography, which is showcased throughout the yacht. The ideal charter yacht for groups of friends ready to let the good times roll, this yacht has both sass and style.

Interior Design & Engineering

The interior of the IAG Yachts-built KING BABY motor yacht is designed by Evan K. Marshall, who had some assistance from the yacht’s namesake, the King Baby jewellery brand and Slick Design.

The result is something you’ve never seen on a luxury superyacht before. Expect to see vintage rock photography and quotes adorning the walls and famous rockstars on the doors.

Five cabins will accommodate 10 guests during your KING BABY yacht charter. The full-beam master suite comes with his ‘n’ hers en suite and a bathtub and shower. The rest of the party will sleep across three king-size cabins and a spacious twin cabin below deck.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

The sky lounge on the KING BABY yacht boasts a mega sound system and an 84-inch television to create the ultimate cinematic experience.

The open-plan main salon offers multiple zones for you to enjoy, from the relaxed sofas to the sit-up bar and the formal dining area. The large glass sliding doors connect it to the main deck aft, where you’ll find a covered alfresco dining table and an exterior lounge overlooking the stern.

The sun deck of the KING BABY is where you’ll probably spend the most time. You can sit at the bar or around the Jacuzzi while you sip a drink and take a dip when you want to relax further. Head forward to enjoy a more casual meal at the table and take your coffee to the forward sofas to savour it while you absorb the views. When you want to sunbathe, you’ll find sunpads behind the Jacuzzi and multiple sun loungers on the aft of the sun deck. And if you're planning to keep active, you can get out the assortment of dumbbells, resistance bands, yoga mats and more for an alfresco workout.

Toys and Crew

A crew of nine will supervise your KING BABY yacht charter.

You can chuck yourself down the waterslide, which will take you from the sun deck straight into the ocean within seconds. When you’re in the water, you can head to the floating pool that’s protected by a net or don the snorkelling gear to follow the reef.

For more high-action fun, you can play with the wave runners, JetLev, lift flyboard, wakeboard, kneeboard or water skis. There’s also a towable tube to enjoy—or you can head out on the paddle boards if you prefer to take it at your own pace. When you need some shade, the inflatable awnings will offer protection.

If you want to spend time enjoying an isolated beach, there’s a range of toys you can take with you.

We're pausing our coverage for tonight but here is a recap of what we know:

• Six people are still missing after the sinking of the Bayesian superyacht, with rescue teams searching off the Sicilian coast for survivors;
• The Italian coastguard confirmed that the body found after the yacht sank yesterday is that of chef Recaldo Thomas;
• The coastguard also named more survivors - Leah Randall, Katja Chicken and Leo Eppel;
• An engineer who led the salvage operation for the wrecked cruise ship Costa Concordia said rescue divers have entered a "critical" 24 hours; 
• The captain of Bayesian spoke for the first time, saying: "We didn't see it coming" in reference to the storm that sank the boat.

Images are emerging of emergency crews working near the site where the yacht sank in Porticello.

Search and rescue efforts by sea and air have so far delivered no results and experts have said we are in a "critical" 24 hours.

Bayesian was moored around half-a-mile off the coast of Porticello when it sank at around 5am local time yesterday.

A friend of Recaldo Thomas, the chef who was killed as the yacht sank, has described him as a "calm spirit" who had a "smile that lit up the room".

Gareth Williams, who grew up with Mr Thomas in Antigua, told the BBC : "I can talk for everyone that knew him when I say he was a well-loved, kind human being with a calm spirit.

"He would come over to mine over the weekend and he would sing. He had the deepest, most sultry voice in the world, and a smile that lit up the room.

"He told me just the other day that he needed to work two more seasons to fix up his late parents' house. He loved yachting, but he was tired."

Mr Thomas was also a Canadian citizen. The country's foreign ministry said it was "aware of reports that a Canadian citizen has died" and that consular officials were in contact with local authorities.

Mike Lynch "lost the last 12 years fighting a ridiculous case", his co-founder has told Sky News.

David Tabizel, who founded the software company Autonomy with Mr Lynch - the sale of which became the subject of the US fraud case - said he was a "legend" and that he had a "very soft spot for him".

"I'm just heartbroken for him and his family and I hope there's a miracle about to occur," he said.

Mr Tabizel said Mr Lynch's "resilience" and "importance to British economy cannot be overstated". 

"Now he has passed through this great trauma we were hoping he would lead a new national revolution to help Britain out of its current moribund state," he said.

"If anyone has the resilience to survive this - he does. And I hope he's found an air pocket."

Mr Tabizel added: "He has been one of the most influential, intelligent and most honourable human beings I have ever had the honour of knowing."

Mr Lynch sold Autonomy to US computing giant Hewlett-Packard for $11bn (£8.6bn).

He was accused of conspiracy and attempted fraud over the sale to HP and an intense, multiyear legal battle in the US ensued.

He was acquitted of multiple fraud charges in June after more than a year under house arrest.

CCTV footage showing the yacht moments before it sank has been released.

We reported on separate footage earlier, shot from a villa 200m away from the site of the disaster in Porticello.

The owner of the villa told outlet Giornale Di Sicilia the shots showed the boat sinking in 60 seconds: "You can clearly see what is happening. There was nothing that could be done for the vessel. It disappeared in a very short time."

Experts have said we're in a critical 24 hours in the search for survivors.

Earlier, Nick Sloane, who led the salvage operation for the wrecked cruise ship Costa Concordia, said survivors might be trapped in air pockets, but that time was running out to save them (see post at 12.50pm).

Now Dr Jean-Baptiste Souppez, senior lecturer in mechanical engineering at Aston University, has said the speed at which the vessel sank (a few minutes, according to accounts) and the fact that it remains intact "could favour the formation of small air pockets inside".

While the formation is "highly speculative", he says, there are records of survivors found in such pockets.

"A sign the rescuers may be looking for is a banging noise at regular intervals: this is common practice on submarines, and was one of the signs the search mission for the Titan submarine was looking for after it went missing last year," he says.

"But whether air pockets formed on the Bayesian is simply impossible to predict."

There is a "big question mark" over how the superyacht sunk, the editor-in-chief of BOAT International has told Sky News.

Stewart Campbell said "nothing like this had happened before" in his recollection.

"These boats are built extremely tough. They are built to take on the biggest seas the ocean can throw at them," he said.

"Big volume aluminium boats are very capable. So the fact that a boat like Bayesian can sink in a storm like this is incredibly surprising."

He said even if a ship like this was knocked down "it should be been able to right itself".

"Even if the boat had been dismasted, theoretically the boat should have been even more stable as it would have meant less weight and the keel would then have anchored the boat more firmly in the sea.

"There are lots of questions to be answered.

"At the moment from my point of view and from the people I have spoken to, including captains of similar boats, there is a big question mark over how this happened."

The action of the boat when it was struck by the storm "would have been incredibly violent" and "it should have woken everybody up".

"The crew would have sprung into action and tried to get everyone into life rafts if they thought the boat was in danger," he said.

"We just don't know what situation the boat was in when this storm struck."

The life raft on which survivors are understood to have escaped the sinking yacht has been pictured in the harbour at Porticello in Sicily. 

Earlier, Karsten Borner, the captain of a boat that came to their aide, described how he and his crew found the raft with 15 survivors inside and brought them to his ship until help arrived.

He described the situation as "awful and traumatic" for those involved - you can read his comments in full in our post at 10.55am.

 The mother of one of the survivors has said she is "beyond relieved" her daughter's life was spared.

Heidi Randall, the mother of crew member Leah Randall, told Sky News: "I'm beyond relieved that my daughter's life was spared by the grace of God. 

"It doesn't make it any easier living with the heartache of those who have lost their lives or are missing. 

"My very deepest condolences to the chef's family as they formed a great friendship."

Leah Randall, from South Africa, was photographed leaving the coastguard headquarters yesterday, alongside Katja Chicken, her fellow crew member.

The Italian coastguard has also confirmed the name of another crew member.

Leo Eppel was also working on the yacht, spokesman Vincenzo Zagarola said.

Palermo yacht sinking hell - 'screams, lost baby and missing people trapped inside'

A horrific storm close to the capital of Palermo in Italy sank a luxury yacht named Bayesian, believed to be owned by the family of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, early this morning

Six people, including four Brits, remain missing after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Italy this morning.

In the early hours of Monday, 22 people were onboard the 56-metre yacht, named Bayesian, when it was suddenly hit by a tornado . The boat is believed to be owned by the family of British tycoon Mike Lynch, who is among those yet to be found. Witnesses say there was a party taking place onboard and it was anchored near the port.

Fifteen people have so far been rescued and one person has tragically died. Amid the tragedy has emerged the miraculous survival of a one-year-old British girl. Divers from Italian emergency services are continuing to look for those who have not been accounted for - including a Canadian, two Americans and one crew member, a cook.

Vessel sank in storm

The superyacht capsized at around 5am off Palermo and was flying a British flag, according to ship-tracking site Marine Traffic. The Italian fire service posted the news on X at 10am local time: "#Palermo, shipwreck of vessel off the coast of Porticello, 15 people rescued, 7 reported missing: from dawn, divers from the #vigilidelfuoco engaged in the search. Wreck identified at 50 meters depth, speleo divers arriving."

It stated 90 minutes later: "#Palermo, shipwreck of a vessel in Porticello: the lifeless body of a man was recovered by the #divers of the #vigilidelfuoco outside the wreck. The search operations continue with the coordination at sea of the @guardiacostiera."

Divers have recovered the body of a man, reported to be the cook, who was of Canadian origins but was a resident in Antigua.

Witnesses have said the vessel was still at anchor in front of the port of Porticello when the tornado struck and the storm broke the large sail mast which is believed to have led the boat to capsize. A man in Porticello said: "That vessel was all lit up. At around 4:30 in the morning, it was gone.

"A beautiful vessel where there had been a party. A normal holiday day spent happily at sea turned into a tragedy. The vessel was not far from the port. It would have taken very little to raise the anchor and head for the port. Evidently they were surprised by the storm that suddenly hit and they were unable to avoid the sinking."

Saved by nearby ship

Fifteen people were saved by the ship Sir Robert Baden Powell, which was anchored by the stricken vessel. Captain Karsten Borner of the Dutch ship said that it was able to hold its position in the sea using engines during the storm but then the saw the Bayesian had disappeared.

"We realised that the boat next to ours was no longer there. We saw a red signal flare coming from the area of the boat, so my first officer and I climbed into the tender and went to provide assistance: we recovered 15 survivors, including a little girl," the captain said.

"After raising the alarm, the coast guard units also arrived. We heard screams, we continued to search the area but we did not find anyone other than the 15 survivors who had already been rescued."

There were reportedly mainly British people onboard but also a New Zealander, a Sri Lankan citizen, two Anglo-French and an Irishman. Survivors were first taken to Porticciolo and five people are now being looked after at an emergency point in Bagheria.

Baby 'lost in the waves'

A British baby called Sophie was miraculously saved after getting lost in the waves. Her mum Charlotte told a local outlet: "For two seconds I lost my baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves. I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy. Many were screaming. Luckily the lifeboat inflated and 11 of us managed to get on board."

Sophie was taken to the Children's Hospital in Palermo as a precaution, along with her mum who has superficial injuries - she was given chest stitches for a slight graze. Sophie's father was taken to the Civic Hospital. The family are believed to have been on holiday with other relatives as well as work colleagues from London.

"They are all in a good condition ," said the head of the emergencies at the paediatric hospital, Domenico Cipolla. "We managed to get the parents to talk on the phone, with doctors and nurses all emotional, especially with the little girl fine, the outlook is fine and we are carrying out tests only as a precaution."

'Corpses through the potholes'

There have been tragic reports of divers seeing "corpses through the portholes" from Salvo Cocina, the head of the Civil Protection of Sicily, speaking to Corriere della Sera .

Some survivors have been taken to the Domina Zagarella hotel in Santa Flavia. "We are safe, we just arrived at the hotel. But we were very scared," reportedly said one person. The mayor of Santa Flavia, Giuseppe D'Agostino, and several local councillors also went to the hotel to see them. Others who were on the ship were taken to nearby Termini Imerese.

'Britain's Bill Gates' missing

British tech entrepreneur Mr Lynch is understood to be among those missing, while his wife Angela Bacares is among those rescued. The business tycoon made a vast fortune in the IT industry, having co-founded Autonomy in 1996 and building it into a leading UK firm before it was acquired by computing giant Hewlett-Packard.

He sold the firm for an eyebrow-raising $11 billion (£8.6 billion) in 2011, netting himself £500 million. He has been lauded as "Britain's Bill Gates" thanks to his business acumen. Mr Lynch was awarded an OBE for his services to enterprise in 2006 and was appointed to the science and technology council in 2011. While he was also elected as a fellow to the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2008 and the Royal Society in 2014.
