Vis Luxury Yacht Charter: Your Gateway to Croatia’s Hidden Paradise
One of the most popular yachting and sailing destinations in Croatia, the island of Vis is a place with many faces, all sharing one thing: beautiful nature. The Vis luxury yacht charter guide will make you feel as if you are sailing through hidden coves of the north side to the famous Stiniva and Budikovac on the southern shores
The Island of Vis in Croatia is an elite yachting destination, popular for both chartered luxury yachts and fast sailboats, attracting skippers seeking an adrenaline rush. Vis is a must-visit destination for anyone sailing in the waters of Split.
Hypnotically beautiful due to its charming combination of colorful history and its position – in the middle of the big blue Adriatic, yet still close enough to coast for comfort. This island is dotted with magical Vis beaches, its unique, mostly pristine nature, and its delicious local cuisine.
According to Vis luxury yacht charter guide, this island is ideal for a two- or three-day trip. Its northern shores are steep and mostly uninhabited, providing a sense of untouched wilderness. On the eastern and western sides, two surreal picturesque towns await – Vis and Komiža. Additionally, the southern shore is adorned with numerous magnificent Vis beaches, charming coves, and isles.

The island of Vis used to be one giant military base, and the Yugoslav Army kept foreign tourists away from its shores up until 1989. Army barracks and other buildings are now one of the things you simply must see if you visit Vis: 38 imposing military buildings that tourists just seem to adore and can see on a guided Military Tour .
In the past few years, the island of Vis has been discovered by Hollywood (‘Mamma Mia 2’ was filmed there), and by UNESCO, who have granted the status of World Heritage to the entire Vis archipelago.
The town of Vis: The heart of the island puzzle piece
The town of Vis is a small universe in itself. Set in a deep bay and well-protected from all winds, the town of Vis was beloved by the ancient Greeks, who founded their colony of Issa there, the first Greek colony in the Adriatic.
As part of the Vis sailing experience, the Prirovo peninsula at the entrance to the cove will immediately charm you with its stone houses and church spire.
The northern shore of the island of Vis
Seven miles long, the northern shore is still successfully resisting over-tourism, mostly due to northern wind that scares away most yachts around Vis.
Rogačić is the only lively bay on the northern side of the island. Half an hour on foot from the town of Vis, it is popular for its beauty and because it is well protected from southern and westerly winds.

The most attractive part of the bay whose muddy bottom holds the anchor firmly in place is the tiny Parija cove. This western part of the bay, with the depth ranging between four and ten meters, holds the entrance to the tunnel that used to serve as a hiding spot for military ships.
From the cove Parija towards the south, several small and deep coves branch out, but Rogačić beach is the only one in front of which you can drop your anchor (anchoring is forbidden in the eastern cove, and impossible in the central).
If you are interested in military history and wish to see Fort George and Fort Bentinck, make sure you get there before the construction crews. The area is marked for redevelopment, with a new marina and a tourist port soon to fill out Rogačić bay.
Gradac bay is probably the least popular anchoring destination when sailing around Vis. This intimate bay has a muddy and sandy bottom, and three tiny pebble beaches. The westernmost arm is home to a handful of private summer homes, but dropping anchor there is not allowed due to the presence of underwater cables.
The other two arms are pristine, with electric blue water deep down to ten meters. Although yachts near Vis are generally safe in the southern wind in Gradac coves, it can still be dangerous due to the tall cliffs surrounding them.
The neighboring cove is Oključna, deep set into the island. Well protected from southern and northern wind, it is up to 15 meters deep. When dropping anchor, be mindful of the many local boats, or consider using the nearby short dock if your keel is shorter than 2m.
Beautiful Vis sailing experience is from Oključna to Barjaci cape, and farther toward Križni cape. There are many small coves and the most popular among them is Perna, whose beautiful water and ideal depth for anchoring attract many.
Komiža: Summer yachting favorite
Sailing into Komiža is surely one of the most delightful experiences in the Adriatic. According to the Vis luxury yacht charter guide, Komiža is a must-see destination. This wide, deep set bay is surrounded by mountains ranging up to 500 meters in height.
Nestled in the heart of the bay is the dreamy town of Komiža, boasting a lovely tall St. Nicholas church, stone houses, and the oldest fishing port in the Adriatic.
The side shores of the deep bay are unfriendly, with many underwater rocks, so make sure to approach carefully. However, the lovely coves south of Komiža are worth the trouble.
Yachts near Vis island shouldn’t miss visiting Biševo , the tiny island with a huge heart and beautiful Blue Cave.
Southern Vis: A Colorful Yachting Heaven
Southwest, Stupišće cape is a piece of land reminiscent of Swiss cheese, as the army has left behind an underground tunnel network. Between the lonely cape and the island’s most popular bay, Stiniva, there are endless little coves, some of them so tiny that you’ll surely be the only one there.
Stiniva beach: Little miracle on Vis island
Stiniva is a little miracle and best enjoyed at dawn or at sunset when there aren’t many other yachts around. The cove remains accessible even with mistral (NW) or pulent (W) winds. Its unique shape, likely the result of soil erosion, occurred when the top part of the cave in the heart of the cove collapsed into the water long ago, creating this charming little space.
The white beach and the cute little rock pool are on both sides, protected by tall cliffs. The entrance to the cove is only four meters wide, so the safest way to enjoy the beach is to tie your yacht to a buoy. Once you get in, take a RIB and enjoy swimming in one of the most beautiful beaches on Vis and in Croatia. At the beach, make sure you visit the tiny restaurant.
Vis restaurants
Vela Travna and Mala Travna coves used to be equally popular, but lately Mala Travna has been gaining popularity among yachting crowds, mostly due to the culinary expertise of Senko Karuza. Senko owns one of the best restaurants on Vis, but he is not only a skilled cook whose creations will delight your palate.
Mr. Karuza is a great storyteller who will make your evening unforgettable and give you a full Vis experience. Therefore, Mala Travna has a unique standing in the Vis Luxury Yacht Charter Guide.
Sadly, the cove was recently connected to the rest of the island by road and has lost some of its charms, but it’s still very appealing, except with southern wind. It has a rocky bottom and the water is between six and ten meters deep, so make sure you drop the anchor properly and tie the boat to the cliffs.
When in Mala Travna, don’t miss an opportunity to dive underwater and meet the inhabitants of that tiny blue microcosm, which in addition to being colorful, is cooler than the rest of the island due to the presence of several freshwater spouts.
Discover Ruda cove
Ruda cove is hidden from view, but those who dare to sail into it will discover the most charming little lake, adorned with a lovely shade of blue. However, the view is slightly marred by the sight of the neighboring Rukavac village and its newly built summer homes.
The cove is well protected from westerlies and a northern wind. However, its rocky bottom makes anchoring dangerous, so you might consider stopping at one of the buoys instead. Finally, Ruda cove is a wonderful place for a lunch break when sailing around Vis on a yacht.
Silvery shine of Srebrna cove
The next cove, Srebrna, got its name – silver – from the silvery shine of its pebbles in the moonlight. The wind carries the waves southward, all the way to Italy, shaping the pebbles along the shore.
Srebrna beach is beloved for its vivid colors and is visited by many tourists arriving from inland. As it isn’t protected from winds and has a rocky bottom, we do not recommend dropping anchor or spending a night in front of Srebrna beach.
The next cove in the island’s pearly necklace is Rukavac, inhabited and exposed to southern and southeastern winds. The northern side of the cove is somewhat protected and there are buoys for visitors of restaurant Dalmatino there, while the western side is exotic looking and has a long pebble beach. This part of the island, called Tepluš by the locals, also has buoys belonging to the Diamond Beach restaurant.
In Rukavac, docking is possible at the pier (3 m depth), provided it is not busy with tourist boats or fishing boats, which often sell fresh seafood.
Ravnik and Green Cave
Across the way, the tiny Ravnik island serves as a natural breakwater, effectively slowing down southeastern waves. On its southwestern shore lies the Green Cave, the island’s most popular tourist attraction and symbol. There is an entrance fee for the cave, so if you decide to visit, make sure you pick the best time of the day.
Approach the cave on a RIB around noon, when sun rays seep through the roof and the color of the water is as green as the name says. Yachts sailing around Vis should always keep in mind the cave is not protected from southern wind, and the water in front of it is too deep to safely drop the anchor. According to Vis Luxury Yacht Charter Guide, this is a must-see yachting spot!
Budikovac island is another tiny gem in the Vis archipelago, beloved by yachts even though it isn’t protected from any wind, especially southern.
Locals and more experienced sailors love to find refuge from the wind in the blue cove on the northern shore of Budikovac when sailing around Vis. The island is locally famous for the lagoon on the western shore, accessible from the south. The lagoon is dotted with buoys, but it is too shallow for sailing – so if you wish to enter completely, make sure you choose a yacht with a draft of less than one meter (3 ft.).
In the lagoon, there is another amazing Vis pebble beach. Furthermore, a beach bar with a floating pontoon is popular as a RIB tying spot, so keep in mind it can get crowded during the day. If you choose to stick around after hours, this part of the Vis archipelago will show you its true charms.
Eastern Shore: Irresistible Sand Oases
Zaglav cove is one of the most unique places on the island , connected to the neighboring Milna (15 minutes away) by a narrow path stretching across the sea, used mostly by goats. Yachts sailing around Vis will find the Zaglav cove safe with western winds, and it’s popular among the locals, too.
Half a mile away, Milna cove offers a completely different experience. Inhabited, connected by a road visible from the sandy beach immediately lets you know you’re closer to civilization. Calm sea and pearly glow of water are ideal for kids. The cove is protected from mistral and tramontane, and quite popular among sailors not looking for some peace.
Vela Smokova cove is a paradise for divers
Vela Smokova cove is pristine, largely due to its inaccessibility by land without the assistance of a skilled hiking guide. Although as beautiful as it was when it was made, the cove is not wide enough for more than a few yachts at the time, but the water depth ranges from 2 to 20 meters and its sandy bottom is ideal for anchoring. The long part of the navy practice grounds, the cove has been spared from development. Divers will find another gem here: at two meters of depth, a sunken wing of a World War II airplane.
Sandy heaven in Stončica
Stončica cove is hypnotizing, breathtakingly beautiful from all sides, and accessible by land and by sea. Therefore, this appealing destination is an integral part of the Vis luxury yacht charter guide. Almost exotic, this cove is the deepest in the archipelago, and well known to every passing yacht. At its entrance, the enduring Stončica lighthouse has been welcoming sailors for generations. At the heart of the cove, there is a pontoon popular during the day, protected by a net stretching along its backside.
This sandy heaven isn’t protected from tramontane and northern winds, resulting in waves crashing into the steep rocks and creating underwater whirlpools. Scattered across the cove are 15 buoys, providing the safest option, and in the cove, there is the aforementioned beach, a beach bar and a trattoria very popular among the locals. Unquestionably, the Stončica beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Vis.
The Vis Archipelago is, geologically speaking, a very attractive area comprising rock formations that have an interesting geological origin. Parts of the archipelago, especially around Jabuka and Brusnik islets, as well as the interior of the Island of Vis, consist of volcanic rocks formed 220 million years ago, making them the oldest in the Adriatic.
The archipelago shoreline is filled with geomorphological phenomena – flooded and semi-flooded sea caves formed by the action of deep water waves on the limestone structure. Sailing through this maritime zone can be dangerous because magnetite from the rocks can interfere with the compass. Anchoring is difficult because the island has no bays and the underwater is deep.
The Vis Archipelago is one of the last ten paradise oases in the Mediterranean, and together with the islands of Mljet and Lastovo it forms the area with the largest level of biodiversity in the Adriatic.
Marinas and anchorages in Vis
Town vis marina.
The beautiful Vis marina, located in the deep bay of Vis, offers 40 berths in the south-eastern part (Kut) and 60 berths in the southwestern part (Luka), along with a large number of buoys scattered between them. Depending on the wind, you may need to relocate within the bay to find a peaceful spot. However, with buoys available throughout, this shouldn’t be an issue. The only part of the bay offering complete protection in all weather conditions lies between the gas station and the ferry terminal.
Town Komiža marina
You can find free 30 berths behind the tall breakwater or at any of the 70 buoys scattered across the port. Komiža is unprotected from westerly winds, with the most unpleasant being the winter libeccio (SW), which mainly affects the locals. The town lacks protection from northern or southern winds, or even the afternoon mistral. Therefore, yachts anchored in the port or at the buoys shouldn’t expect a peaceful night.
Vis marina price
Similar to all Croatian marinas, prices in Vis marinas depend on the length and type of boat. For a 50-foot sailboat, the approximate price of a berth on the waterfront is 110 euros, and on a buoy 80 euros. A 50-foot monohull sailboat in Vis marina will pay approximately 110 euros for a berth on the waterfront and 80 euros for a buoy.
Popular anchorages on the island Vis
Among the yachts that sail around Vis, the most attractive anchorages with buoys are the coves Stončica, Stiniva and Ruda. On the islet of Budikovac and in the cove of Rukavac, buoys can be used only by guests of the restaurants. The northern coves of Rogačić, Gradac, Okljucna, and the southern ones of Vela Smokova, Milna, Zaglav, Mala Travna are stunning anchorage places.

Croatia Yacht Charter | Vis
Despite its picturesque Mediterranean beauty, its glorious olive groves and vines, its ancient ruins and deserted beaches, Vis is still virtually unaffected by tourism and retains its amazing natural beauty.
Vis is a fabulous place to spend a day (at least!), with its 16th-century Venetian fort, palm-fringed square and old harbour. Nearby, the best sandy beaches can be found at Milna and Stoncica, a narrow inlet cleft in the rock with inviting turquoise water. Or the equally stunning beach at Srebrna, where the large, flat, pale stones give the place its name: 'silvery'.
Other reachable destinations from Vis are Mljet , Rovinj and Korcula . Have a look at our itinerary around Dubrovnik and Croatia to get a taste of the wonderful scenery, towns and cruising areas this destination has to offer.
Vis is a highly recommended stop on any Croatian Charter. Click here for a charter itinerary from Dubrovnik to Split, including Vis and its surroundings .

Warmly embraced by incredibly clean sea stands the gorgeous island of Vis , an unskippable destination for any yachting connoisseur. A fifth of the island's land is covered by vineyards where autochthonous wine is produced - don't forget to buy a few bottles of Plavac Mali wine or Vugava if you prefer white. Even the most seasoned sommelier will be enchanted with the taste of these wines only found in this region. Vis is the farthest inhabited isle of Croatia, for which reason it offers probably the cleanest seawater of the Adriatic.
The natural beauty of this captivating island doesn't insinuate the tumulus historic events that took place here since 3000 B.C. - segments of the ancient city walls still remain, along with a thermal and Levaman Fortress, where you can find the Archaeological Museum .
A paradise island stranded in the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic , Vis is a paradise for yachtsmen exploring Croatia . While it doesn't have its own marina, you can find many moorings near the port.
Explore the nearby island of Bisevo to see the incredible Blue Grotto , with entrances both below and above sea level. This waterlogged sea cave is only accessible by boat and is most famous for the almost haunted feel that the blue light, which appears a few times a day, provides.
Vis Island | Lovely Towns and Tranquil Beauty
Visiting Vis is like stepping back in time. The island is famous for its fascinating history, which dates back to ancient times. Explore the remnants of the ancient Roman city of Issa, wander through lovely villages, or venture into hidden caves and coves that dot the coastline.
Vis is a short sail from Split . Rich in history, pristine natural beauty, interesting natural resources, hidden coves, and islets. Moreover, many came and went from Vis: Old Illyrians, Greeks, Romans, Venetians, Austro – Hungarians, English, and French. Still, Vis continues to thrive.
After the second world war, Vis was a closed military island. It has a submarine base, several military tunnels, and allied cemeteries. A field in the island’s center was an important airport for the Allied forces during the second world war.

Vis | Croatian Island of Adventures
Vis is the most outlying of the Central Dalmatian Islands. Wild and unspoiled, it has a rocky, indented coastline, rugged hills, and fields planted with vineyards and olive groves. The island’s two main settlements are Vis Town on the north coast and Komiža on the western coast.
Vis was first settled by the Ancient Greeks, who were attracted by its safe harbors and fertile interior. Later, in the 20th century, as part of Yugoslavia, the island was a military naval base. Since foreigners could not visit the island, tourism did not develop. Still today, you will find that the island is relatively undeveloped and is visited mainly by yachting crews.
The island enjoys a Mediterranean climate, similar to most of the islands on the Dalmatian coast. In summer, temperatures often rise above 75 degrees Fahrenheit. During the summer, the Mistral winds cool the air.

Vis Island also has a network of military tunnels dating back to World War II. Divers can explore these tunnels, discovering remnants of the island’s wartime history while navigating through the underwater passages.

Out of all the Croatian islands, Vis is one of the furthest ones from the coast and the most enigmatic. The island was serving as Yugoslav military base in the recent history, cut off from foreign visitors from the 1950s until 1989. This isolation preserved the island from development and drove much of the population to move elsewhere in search of work, leaving it underpopulated for many years.
Blue Grotto (Biševo)
It leaves you breathless!
When you think about Blue Grotto , imagine the natural phenomena which will remain in your memory forever.
The Island of Biševo is 5 nautical miles from the town of Komiža (on Vis island), and it is best known for its rare natural phenomena, the Blue Cave .
The cave was first described by Baron Eugene von Ransonnet in 1884. On his suggestion, an artificial entrance to the cave was added from the outside, as before the only way to get into the cave was through an underwater passageway. Meaning, to get inside the cave, you had to dive into it. The Blue Cave is now a protected site, and there is an entrance fee required.
When is the best time to visit the cave?
It depends on the season, but the ideal moment to visit the Blue Cave is between 11AM and 12 AM.
We are sure you have seen many pictures, and are asking yourself - how is this possible? The aquamarine light glowing effect is that beautiful because of the sun. When the sun’s ray enters through the sea they reflect off the limestone floor of the cave. The bright sun lights up the water, and the glowing ocean illuminates the cave walls a brilliant blue, creating an ethereal glowing blue grotto.
The cave was formed by the wave action of the sea, as sea water eroded the limestone rock of which the whole island of Biševo is composed of. The cave itself is 24 meters long, 10 – 12 meters deep and up to 15 meters high, while the entrance is 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide.
The cave is visited by more than 10,000 tourist visits every year, and tourist boats often include a visit to another similar cave on the island, the Green Grotto - which is bigger in size and appears to be of an emerald-green tone due to a similar effect.
Green Grotto
Green Cave is another natural phenomenon in Croatia, located on the islet Ravnik , on the southern side of Vis island. The color created in cave, comes from the green algae in the ceiling and walls of the cave reflecting down into the sea . The depth varies from 3 to 5 meters, so the boat can get in which is allows you to jump into the sea right inside the cave. When you dive in the cave - you can expect it to be dark, the only light is coming from the cave entrance, as the light beam is coming from the ceiling above. The color and light are a unique experience when snorkeling inside the Green Cave !

Vis Yacht Charters
Include the serene island of vis to your croatia charter itinerary.
As the most mysterious of the islands of Central Dalmatia, the anti-industrial, pleasantly serene Island Vis floats furthest from mainland Croatia. Known for its production of some of Croatia’s best white wines, it is adorned in natural vineyards – spread between its two primary towns, Komiza and Vis Town.
While Vis Town reflects the nobility of the island’s past, Komiza is known for its important role in the fishing history of Croatia, and beyond that, the world. The birthplace of fishing, Komiza boasts a history of avid fishermen who developed a trading system along the Pacific Coast of North and South America. Stemming from the 12th century, Komiza’s historical significance still shines through today – meaning it should come as no surprise that it is an ideal destination for a yacht charter in Croatia.

Vis Yacht Charters – Things to Do & See
Fishermen’s Museum
Housed in the Island of Vis’ historical Venetian tower, Grimaldi, Fishermen’s Museum is home to ancient Croatian fishing tools and a life-size replica of gajeta “Falkusa,” the traditional fishing boat of the people of Komiza. Given the surrounding town’s historical significance in the sport of fishing, this museum is both a critical modern-day tourist attraction and a gateway into the past.
Known formally as the Church of St. Nikola’s, “Muster” is a small Renaissance church located in the heart of Komiza. Built by the Benedictines in the 13th century, this convent pays homage to St. Nikola, the patron saint of Komiza believed to protect passengers, sailors and fishermen. Home to the first church fortress in all of Dalmatia, this five-nave religious locale gradually declined after the Benedictines left the church in the 15th century. Today, whatever remains attracts yacht charter guests for its historical and local significance.
Stiniva Bay
Lined with throngs of old pine trees and a sandy, pebbled beach, Stiniva Bay is the most idyllic and interesting of the Island of Vis’ hidden bays. Resting peacefully on the south part of the island, Stiniva Bay is surrounded by steep cliffs and no footpaths; meaning visitors to this hidden treasure can only get to it by boat.
Blue Grotto
Perched on the eastern side of the island of Bisevo, Croatia’s Blue Grotto is just a short sail from Island Vis. Regarded for its glowing, iridescent blue light – which shines into the cave through a submarine-like hole in its ceiling – Blue Grotto is considered one of the most naturally beautiful spots in the enchanting Adriatic Sea. The result of waves lapping against Bisevo’s limestone rock, causing a gradual erosion, Blue Grotto can be entered in one of two ways: through its natural entrance at the top, or its artificial one, added in 1884 so small boats could take in its wondrous beauty. One of the most fascinating natural sites in all of Croatia, and all over the world, today, Blue Grotto attracts more than 10,000 tourists each year.

As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.
Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia
Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.
You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.
Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia
The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.
There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.
Gulet Charters in Croatia
Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .
With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;
- For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
- For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses
The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.

There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .
Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.
For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .
Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.
It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .
sample itineraries
We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.
There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.
There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;
- ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
- ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
- Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
- ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
- Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.
Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;
- D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
- ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
- Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.
For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:
- ACI Marina Split – located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
- Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
- D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.
With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.
If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.
Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A
Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;
- Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
- Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
- You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.
There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.
Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.
Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.
Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.
Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.
The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.
You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.
Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.
Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.
Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.
For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide: Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.
