Nordhavn 71.

The Nordhavn 71 is a brand new boat that will follow in the wake of the  Nordhavn 80 , providing her owners an elegant, modern, state-of-the-art passagemaking yacht. The N71 is a brand new hull, created especially for those who find themselves in the upper end of the mid-size range, who desire the esthetic of one of Nordhavn’s larger yachts, but want the ability to manage without crew.

Indeed, with the first three hulls committed by former owners of Nordhavn 68 or Nordhavn 60 models, the N71 seems to be filling a void. Nordhavn co-owner and Chief of Design Jeff Leishman said the N71 is a modern response to the third generation Nordhavns that were built in the early 2000s. Styling, technology and creature comforts have all evolved since then. “It was time to provide that size category in our product line with a new alternative,” he said.

The Nordhavn 71 is available in two layouts: a three-stateroom layout with skylounge, or a layout that incorporates a fourth stateroom in place of the skylounge. While decidedly smaller than the 80, the N71 mimics her twin model configuration, sleek lines and advanced level of engineering. She was designed with Nordhavn’s in-house Computational Fluid Dynamics program. As is the case with all long-range Nordhavns, she will have ocean-crossing capability and will be built to the strictest CE Certification standard for offshore use.

Like every new Nordhavn design, real world experience and customer feedback went into the creation of this new model. “We took everything we knew from the Nordhavn 68 and 76 models and applied the parts that were most successful into creating the N71,” said Project Manager Justin Zumwalt. Zumwalt has spent the past 16 years overseeing the N64/68 and N72/76 projects, and was a natural choice to manage the 71.

Esthetics aside, the N71 benefits from more intuitive space planning, a stepped-up lighting schedule, a big dining room, spacious owners cabin and larger windows. She will also keep in step with newer Nordhavns being offered with a more complete spec, thus keeping costs and build time wrangled. This won’t be a cookie-cutter boat by any means, however. The specification includes a credit for furniture so buyers can choose their own chairs, dining table, pillows and the like, resulting in a highly-individualized yacht.

AC SYSTEM Vessel is fitted with two (2) 240 volt AC 50 amp shore inlets. House shore power is fed through a 15KVA isolation/Boost transformer. The air conditioning may be operated from the house shore power or from its own dedicated shore power inlet which is equipped with a galvanic isolator. The air conditioning may be operated from either 50 Hz or 60 Hz current. Current is distributed through custom PAE electrical panels containing 240 volt AC and 120 volt AC sections, volt and amp meters and individual breakers for functions Two (2) Victron Quattro 8.0 kW 24 volt inverter/chargers with remote control panel. Electrical panel is fitted with an inverter bypass switch in the event of failure AC Outlets are standard Vimar US format 120 volt AC. DC SYSTEM DC power is provided by 12 volt DC and 24 volt DC systems. The primary DC system is 24 volts and the secondary system is 12 volts for any equipment that is available in 12 volts only Standard batteries are provided as follows: 24 volt DC house battery bank – Consists of twelve (12) 8D, 12 volt AGM Batteries @ 255 Ah each. Three groups of two (4) batteries each are connected in parallel. The Azimut 71 is a 71-foot luxury motor yacht with a flybridge that was produced by the Avigliana, Italy-based firm from the late 1980s through to 1992. A vintage model with classic Italian looks, the 71 ushered in a new era for Azimut when launched by pioneering the use of many luxury yacht characteristics that are now taken for granted, such as an expansive fly-bridge, foredeck lounge space and a sleek, fiberglass superstructure. Still incredibly popular on the used and charter markets, the Azimut 71 is an enduringly seaworthy vessel that has truly stood the test of time.

The flybridge is large enough to host a U-shaped dining sofa that surrounds a fiberglass breakfast table, a wet-bar console, an outdoor barbecue grill and a pair of upper helm seats. There is also room to the rear of the flybridge for tender storage with a crane, capable of holding a jet-ski and a dinghy. One level down and you will find a teak-lined aft deck hosting an outdoor dining table and side seats that includes a cutaway transom for ladder access down to a hydraulic bathing platform with a metal grill surface. Out on the foredeck there is a double sunpad, ideal for hours spent sunbathing in the summer months.

Access to the air-conditioned, main-deck cockpit is through rear sliding glass doors with bulky and durable stainless-steel frames. Here you will discover an aft salon with glossy cherrywood surrounds, lavish cream carpeting and panoramic side windows. There is an L-shaped sofa in white Italian leather, a teak coffee table, plenty of cabinetry, recessed lighting and an angled U-shaped dining sofa surrounding a dining table with room for up to 8 guests. Also, to be found on this level is a walk-in bar with granite worktops and all the refrigeration and ice-making facilities required to rustle up a pre-meal Martini. At the front of the cockpit sits an enclosed pilothouse for dedicated steering free from distraction, as well as a private galley with an electric hob, a convection oven, granite worktops, a microwave and a dishwasher.

The lower level on the Azimut 71 was designed to be well ahead of its time, featuring four en suite staterooms including a pair of twins with Pullman beds, a large double bedroom and a full-beam master stateroom amidship. Downstairs space benefits from plenty of oblong-shaped opening portholes running along the sides of the hull for ample natural light, as well as lightly toned interior treatment featuring cream upholstery, marble surrounds and bespoke, curved cabinetry.

A wide-beamed deep-V hull with prop tunnels is robust and slippery on the water, while a pair of 900MHP MAN D2842 diesel engines power the Azimut 71 to top speeds of around 25 knots. At lower cruising speeds, however, the yacht has an enviable range of 470 miles thanks to a fuel tank that holds 5000 liters of diesel. Stern and bow thrusters offer increased agility on the turn when riding this yacht, while the use of a Furuno radar package and Robertson Autopilot ensure confident navigation.

The 71’ Jim Smith “Fish On” is a custom sportfish yacht that seamlessly blends intricate beauty and design with power – a well-established standard of Jim Smith Tournament Boats.

As a young man, Jim Smith’s interest led him to discover a number of passions including barnstorming biplanes, motorcycle racing, and eventually outboard race boats. After twenty years of building and racing hydroplanes, Smith moved to South Florida following his retirement in 1949. There he spent his time deep-sea fishing while observing and admiring the local sportfishing boats. Using his knowledge of boat racing and airplanes, he decided to build his own pedigree vessel – one that combines speed with efficiency and beauty.

Continuing that tradition today, the 71’ Jim Smith “Fish On” is a custom sportfish yacht possessing the class, performance, and speed that we’ve come to expect from Jim Smith. Its cutting-edge technology and electronics, as well as its elaborate attention to craftsmanship and design, set this yacht apart from the competition.

Whether running through the open ocean towards a destination or relaxing at the port during sunset, this yacht is truly the ultimate vessel.

Power and Speed – the Jim Smith Legacy

The “Fish On” wouldn’t encompass the Jim Smith nature if it was not fast. Powering this yacht are twin MTUs,12-2000 M94 Common Rail producing 1800 horsepower each. These engines can quickly get this yacht to a cruising speed of 32 Knots at 1850 RPM and a top speed of 40 knots. Expect this sportfish to power you through any conditions to quickly reach your long-distance destination. Just as importantly, the vessel is outfitted for the utmost fishing abilities and billfish excursions.

Comfort and Luxury Anywhere at Sea

Inside the “Fish On,” you’ll be met with the luxury and sophistication that sets this yacht apart from others. The master stateroom and master head are a carefully crafted work of art boasting rubbed satin varnished teak with Japanese marble wood inlay and exotic marble surfaces. Ample closet space and storage, natural prism lighting and a 30” Sony TV and surround sound system compliment the “Fish On” splendidly. The master stateroom has a full head and gorgeous shower with everything you’d need in a lavish private head.

For your guests, there are bountiful options and luxuries to enhance their time at sea. The VIP stateroom has side-by-side single bunks that can be modified into a queen berth and another pullman berth for extra guests. Accompanying the VIP stateroom is a private full head and shower styled with as much detail as you’d expect from a pedigree builder like Jim Smith. The guest stateroom has Hi-Lo bunks and plenty of storage. The guest stateroom also doubles as a crew quarters as the room features all of the ships monitoring devices and a 20” HD Sharp flat screen TV. Another guest stateroom features a single fixed berth and pullman for extra space and storage if needed.

Dining, Activities and Entertainment

The dazzling amenities exemplify the excellent craftsmanship that illuminates from the 71’ Jim Smith “Fish On.” The salon, galley, and extra-large dinette come well stocked and fully furnished. The salon features a beautiful Corinthian L-shaped leather sofa and a custom teak hi/lo cocktail table for dining and serving drinks. A full entertainment center with a pop-up 50” Sony television is sure to keep everyone entertained and enjoying the beautiful space. The sizable dinette features an impressive teak table and a leather sofa for seating.

The galley contains top of the line appliances including a dishwasher, convection oven, Miele custom cooktop, and ice maker. The counter space is generous enough to double as a bar with two custom teak bar stools. Most importantly, the area has plentiful storage with under-counter refrigeration and freezer space, an oversized pantry, and custom storage for pots and pans. The galley has beautifully crafted real teak, satin finished, hardwood floors. To stay connected, onboard is a KVH V3 satellite system that provides internet and phone connection, as well as Directv service.

At its heart, this is a sportfishing yacht equipped with only the best fishing gear and accessories onboard. Many of the staterooms feature custom rod and reel storage behind the berths. A massive tackle room is set up to store large 80 and 130-pound rods and reels. The cockpit features a transom box, in-deck fish box, custom livewell systems with tuna tubes, and a custom bait freezer with custom bait trays. The envy of any sports fisherman, the full-size Bluewater Marlin Unlimited Chair with a 7-rod rocket launcher and drawer is the centerpiece of the cockpit.

The Captain at Sea and Port

The Captain of this distinct vessel deserves only the best technology and amenities when at the helm and entertaining guests. The flybridge boasts dual helm chairs and bow thrusters as well as Seastar power steering, making getting around on the open water a breeze. For the captain’s guests, there’s seating made for ten around a custom table and light tackle storage accessible at a minute’s notice. The flybridge also features a custom sound system by JL Audio to get those tunes cranking.

The electronics aboard make this yacht genuinely outstanding for traveling safely and securely. The long list of advanced technology includes a Garmin 7215 touchscreen, sonar sounding machine, Simrad autopilot, 3 KEP monitoring screens, Furuno NavNet 3D system, Furuno digital depth finder, Furuno 96 mile radar, 2 VHF radios, and a FLIR system. The Palm Beach Towers Tuna Tower comes with a custom satin finish and features a NavNet repeater, autopilot, VHF, and bow thruster controls.

Spirit Yachts ’ flagship P70 may look like an extra from The Great Gatsby , but this oh-so-elegant wooden motoryacht, with its gleaming mirror-varnished mahogany and classic flag-blue paint, is new from the keel up.

The 71-footer was built by Britain’s Spirit Yachts for an experienced Norwegian owner who fell in love with the timeless lines of the company’s classic wooden sailboats, but wanted the style to translate to a powered yacht.

If the Spirit name sounds familiar, this was the builder that has enthusiastically supplied yachts for Daniel “007” Craig to sail in those epic James Bond romps Casino Royale, and the newest, No Time to Die.

But according to Sean McMillan, Spirit Yachts founder and chief designer, the owner didn’t simply want a classic-looking cruiser with a retro Roaring Twenties vibe that would sit at a marina. He wanted a boat that could go places. “The brief was to build a motoryacht capable of cruising from Britain’s south coast, across the North Sea to the Baltic and on to Norway, at an average speed of 18 knots. And he wanted the boat to go there and back—that’s over 1,000 miles—without having to refuel,” McMillan told Robb Report .

To meet the challenge, McMillan and a dedicated team of eight woodworking craftsmen, turned to the same wooden boatbuilding techniques they use to craft Spirit’s range of classic sailboats, including the recently launched 111-foot masterpiece Geist . That involved creating a framework using tough sapele hardwood. To this, longitudinal strips of Douglas fir were screwed and bonded to build the hull shape. Then, on top of this, multiple layers of Japanese kaya wood were glued diagonally to deliver carbon-fiber levels of strength and rigidity.

“It creates a hull that is immensely strong and light. The P70 weighs just 24 tonnes, which is almost half the weight of similar-sized fiberglass counterparts,” explains McMillan.

Lighter weight also allowed smaller than usual engines to be mounted in the P70’s over-sized engine room. The twin 800-hp six-cylinder MAN turbo diesels are capable of delivering a top speed of 29 mph, with cruising at a more relaxed 20 mph.

Without doubt, it’s the lines of this timelessly elegant 1930s-style “gentleman’s” motoryacht that sets it apart. But the process of creating such a head-turning profile wasn’t easy. The owner, a highly experienced and knowledgeable boater, had firm ideas on what he wanted. It resulted in McMillan modifying the design more than a dozen times.

“He really liked the style of some of the Spirit power boats I’ve designed over the years. So, we combined the flared bow and tumblehome stern from our Spirit P40 with the 1930s style of our sailing yachts, and applied it to a larger motoryacht design,” he explains.

The result is nothing less than a piece of floating art, with a classic slender waist—the beam spans just 16.5 feet—and that tall, proud bow. And there are some lovely classic design features, like the stainless-steel engine vents on the cabin sides that were inspired by those from a classic ‘50s Mercedes-Benz 300SL.

“To keep the sleek, uncluttered look, we did away with the typical stainless handrails, and lowered the level of the deck to make it safe and easy to walk around the yacht,” says McMillan.

Below decks, the slightly unconventional layout requested by the owner includes a central wheelhouse, a rich, leather-lined salon area forward, and a spacious galley and dining area aft. And on the lower levels, the master suite is in the bow with twin guest cabins at the stern.

The quality and attention to detail are exceptional. You can understand why it took a team of three painters almost seven months to varnish the bare-wood interior. From start to finish, building the yacht at Spirit’s yard in Ipswich, on Britain’s east coast, took almost three years.

But while the P70 looks classic and elegant in its design, beneath the skin it’s packed with some of the latest maritime technology. That includes a bank of lithium-ion batteries that can power the yacht’s air conditioning and zero-speed stabilizers while at anchor overnight, without cranking-up the generator.

“Wooden motoryachts like this are the future,” says McMillan. “They’re light, sustainable, have a great strength-to-weight ratio, are highly fuel-efficient, and, as our P70 shows, can be turned into things of real beauty.”

The price of a new P70 starts at £4 million, or roughly $5.5 million.

This is a highlight of the major upgrades done under current ownership. It is by no means a complete list of improvements.

-A/C System Upgrades Remove factory strainers from under mid-cabin floor and install larger thru hull valves and larger strainers in the engine room. Fabricate all new manifolds both intake and discharge of schedule 80 pvc at the compressors with new hoses, and both circulating pumps being rebuilt. New a/c compressor was installed for the Galley. New Flagship Marine all in one ac units with heat strips were installed in the forward and mid staterooms. These units eliminate the reversing valve and the compressor running on the heat cycle extending their life span.

- Machinery Space Replaced the bulky air compressor with new compact ultra-quiet aluminum air compressor by California Air. This was installed on a new shelf over the transformers creating extra space.

- Removed old storage box from floor and moved the generator wet mufflers back creating more accessibility to the engine space.

- Updated black water sewage system, by eliminating the overboard discharge thru hull valves with new hoses straight to the holding tank. The thru hulls were then capped. The pump for the bunk room head was moved into the machinery space from under forward bunk to minimize the length of run. The pump out and vent hoses were also replaced at this me.

- Electronics, A major electronic upgrade was completed in 2020. This included a new Garmin 8616 XSV touchscreen in pilot house, Garmin 8624 GPS on flybridge, SIMRAD 8648 autopilot, and Garmin 18-mile radar dome. Eight new high-resolution cameras and a monitor were installed with enhanced night vision on the forward and the center units.

- Hall Out 2021 Wet blasted old bottom paint and repaired fourteen blisters. Applied two new coats of bottom paint, three from the chine to the water line. Removed stabilizer fins to install new seals. The five forward pilot house windows were removed and resealed. Additionally, stress cracks in the vertical supports were repaired and the area was repainted.

- Misc Improvements 2022-2023 New canvas installed on deck chairs. New isinglass/canvas surround installed on fly bridge. Replaced battery charger with new three bank electronic unit and four new starting batteries. Rebuilt steering cylinder. Replaced fresh water pump. Rebuilt Hatteras systems monitor board. And yes, we have every receipt down to every nut and bolt! Many of the previous owner’s records are also on board. As is, all the factory supplied manuals including the blueprints.

Sea Eagle II began her life as a 58' Bertram, built in 1977. In 1989, Sea Eagle's owner commissioned Dave Napier, the original designer of the Bertram 58, to design an extension for his 58' Bertram that would include two additional staterooms and an enlarged salon and deck above. Derecktor in Dania, Florida completed the refit at a cost of well over $500,000. Dee Robinson then designed a beautiful interior.

In 1993 she was purchased by a new owner. Continual upgrades by a conscientious owner included a $70,000 rebuild of the main engines in Fall '99, repaint of the topsides in the Fall of 2000, etc. 

She has been used for both personal cruising and charter operations from Nantucket to Granada. She offers unparalelled facilities, including four double staterooms plus crew, large upper Salon with Dining Salon below, enormous Flybridge with dining area, etc.

Her current owners are in the process of yet another refit, making this one of the most well-preserved and well-taken-care-of motor yachts on the market. She is a special boat!
