From Epic Sailing Vessels to Rugged Explorers: The 10 Best Superyachts That Will Launch This Year
Beyond size, this year's launches are unusually diverse, including motoryachts, sailing vessels, explorers and even a giant sportsfisherman., julia zaltzman, julia zaltzman's most recent stories.

With a combined length of 2,929 feet, the world’s top 10 superyachts scheduled for delivery this year are moving away from the idea that yachting is about whose boat is bigger. The trend is now more about mission than size. This year’s launches will be wide ranging, from motoryachts to sailing vessels, explorers and even a giant sportfish.
The list includes offerings from German shipyard Lürssen , which has two 400-foot-plus yachts ready to splash this year, with noteworthy deliveries from other shipyards in Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands showcasing different definitions of design, power and performance.
Here are the yachts we can’t wait to see.
‘Koru’ (564 feet) Oceanco
Jeff Bezos’ first yacht, Koru , was spotted last week on sea trials. The Amazon founder chose to make a bold design statement by commissioning the world’s largest sailing yacht, not to mention the longest pleasure vessel, motor or sail, ever from The Netherlands. Built by Oceanco, the titanic sailing machine is an incredible 3300 GT, powered by kinetic energy generated by the sails. Besides its massive length, its classic canoe stern, a double-deck wooden coach house and navy hull with a red stripe differentiate Koru from any other vessel on the water. The project remains hush-hush. Even the designers remain a secret.
‘Liva’ (387 feet, 1 inch) Abeking & Rasmussen
Launched late last year and scheduled to be delivered in early 2023, Liva is the largest yacht built by Abeking to date, overtaking the German shipyard’s previous flagship Aviva by 65 feet. The French studio Joseph Dirand Architecture was commissioned to pen both the exterior and interior, which is reported to include a semi-submerged underwater observation room on the lower deck, a supersized pool, helipad, spa with sauna and beauty salon, and a lower-deck beach club.
‘Alchemy’ (216 feet, 5 inches) Rossinavi
Commissioned by a private American client, the 216-foot multi-deck motoryacht Alchemy is one of three yachts to be launched by Italian shipyard Rossinavi in 2023. Exterior design is by Philippe Briand, with interior styling by Enrico Gobbi’s Team for Design. Little information has yet to be revealed, though it’s visible from images that the custom yacht features an axe bow, drop-down side terraces at the stern and large floor-to-ceiling windows that afford views from all levels.
Project Jag (400 feet) Lürssen
The 400-foot displacement motoryacht known only as “Project Jag” is reported to be the owner’s third Lürssen. His most recent is Kismet . It is set for delivery in late 2023. Capable of sleeping 20 guests and 40 crew, the gigayacht is equipped with a helipad, spa, swimming pool, two cinemas, gym and storage for a sub. Italian design firm Nuvolari Lenard designed the steel yacht’s exterior, while UK studio Reymond Langton has crafted what is rumored to be a “bespoke homage to the owner’s lifestyle”—whatever that means.
Project Luminance (426 feet, 5 inches) Lürssen
Project Luminance is a 426.5-foot motor yacht that Lürssen claims will be one of the largest and most technologically advanced boats in the world. It’s also the largest yacht due to deliver in 2023. Construction began in 2018, yet few details have been revealed. What we do know is that the seventh-largest project to ever come out of the German shipyard to date features state-of-the-art propulsion systems, advanced navigation and communication systems, as well as next-generation entertainment.
‘T52’ (170 feet) Baglietto
The first model in Baglietto’s T52 line, which splashed in February 2023, features sleek lines and aerodynamic grills penned by Francesco Paszkowski Design. Power comes from a diesel-electric-hybrid propulsion system. The yacht celebrates outdoor space, including a large multi-level beach club at the stern with a fold-down transom, oversized sunbeds and a swimming pool with a floor that rises flush with the deck. Sliding windows on the upper deck convert space into an open-air sky lounge and a 78-foot sundeck with a glass-encased hot tub.
Project 406 (170 feet, 6 inches) Royal Huisman
The Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman made its name building some of the world’s largest sailing yachts, including 296-foot Athena , but now it’s hitting the record books again with the impending launch of Project 406 , the world’s largest sportsfisherman. Naval architecture, exterior and interior are by Dutch studio Vripack. The firm gave the six-decked aluminum yacht a towering profile promising spectacular front-row views of the big game fishing action. The team balanced its height by a long bow, high bulwarks and uncluttered fishing cockpit.
‘Black Shark’ (252 feet, 6 inches) Nobiskrug
Black Shark first began construction in 2019, but all work ceased when Nobiskrug later filed for insolvency. In March 2022, following the German shipyard’s acquisition by entrepreneur Lars Windhorst, work on Black Shark recommenced, with delivery set for 2023. The 252-foot boat, designed by Winch Design, gets its name from its predatory profile and mast shaped like a dorsal fin. A reverse bow, black matte hull and metallic silver superstructure will also help to enhance the marine connection.
‘Ultra G’ (196 feet, 8 inches) Heesen
Heesen is renowned for building fast boats, so it’s no surprise that Ultra G , equipped with a propulsion package totaling 22,000 horsepower, with four water jets and a top speed of 37 knots. The Dutch yard hailed this as its most powerful project to date. The motoryacht was commissioned by an avid sportfisherman, with a fighting chair and storage for 40 rods. Entertainment was also a big mandate for the design, stretching from Samsung’s “The Wall” screen, an infinity pool, and a dedicated self-cleaning “dog park” for furry guests.
‘Maverick’ (145 feet, 3 inches) Cantiere delle Marche
Maverick is the first Flexplorer 142 to soon be delivered by Cantiere delle Marche (CdM), bought by a young German who is a keen sailor and serial owner of both sailing boats and motoryachts. The owner’s itinerary will see him cruising the Mediterranean, before heading to the Northern latitudes to cross the Northwest Passage and put Hydro Tec’s bold exterior design and running surface to the test. Key features include a custom-built A-frame crane that sits flush on the deck when not in use, collapsible bulwarks that fold-down to reveal a 1,450-square-foot beach club, and an infinity pool at the transom.

Top 5 Luxury Yachts under Construction in 2023
2022 saw some of the largest, most innovative yachts hit the water from pioneering superyacht builders worldwide. As technology improves, 2023 promises to be an exciting year for the world’s most luxurious and state-of-the-art vessels.
From the largest, most unique yachts under construction to record-breaking builds, we look ahead to see which exciting vessels will be launched over the coming years .
What are some of the most exciting luxury yachts under construction in 2023?
Some of the most exciting luxury superyachts under construction are Project JAG, Project SHACKLETON, Project JASSJ, Project MARANELLO, and Project ASIA. These exciting projects are being built by some of the world’s most esteemed pedigree boat builders. Let’s explore each superyacht project in greater detail.
PROJECT JAG, Lürssen
At 400.3 feet/122 meters, PROJECT JAG is one of the largest yachts under construction and will feature limitless levels of luxury.
She is being built by Lürssen for an experienced owner to replace his current 314.9-foot/96-meter vessel. Her hull was launched in 2021, and she is set to be delivered this year.
Her extraordinary volume means that she will be able to accommodate 20 guests across 11 staterooms, while her crew quarters will be able to accommodate 40 staff.
She boasts a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, with her exterior designed by the famed Nuvolari Lenard design firm. Her interior design is by Reymond Langton Design, with the shipyard stating that the interior will be a “beautiful, bespoke homage to the owner’s lifestyle.”
Reported features include a helipad, spa, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor cinema, gym, dance floor, and a garage filled with a selection of tenders and the latest water toys.
PROJECT SHACKLETON, Lürssen
Project SHACKLETON – formerly known as PROJECT ICECAP – is a 351.1-foot/107-meter mega yacht under construction at Lürssen’s shipyard in northern Germany.
The project is highly secretive, and her specifications and amenities are yet to be fully released, however, reports state that she will boast 10 cabins that will be able to accommodate 20 guests.
The mega yacht was spotted undertaking its first round of sea trials in late 2022, giving boating enthusiasts their first glimpse of this spectacular vessel.
Her exterior design is by Salt Ship Design, a ship design firm based in Norway, while Moran Yacht & Ship is project managing her construction. She boasts a sharply inverted bow and an expansive open aft deck with tender cradles and a helipad. Voluminous decks will also provide ample space for relaxation and entertaining.
PROJECT JASSJ, Lürssen
Project JASSJ is another new superyacht under construction at Lürssen, scheduled to be launched in 2025.
Details about the 337.11-foot/103-meter motor yacht were first revealed at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show.
The boat’s interior and exterior have been designed by the UK-based RWD Design. Once complete, JASSJ will feature 11 cabins that can sleep 22 guests, an industry-leading beach club, a full-beam gym, and extensive deck areas for relaxation and entertaining. She boasts a steel hull, aluminum superstructure, teak decks, and a 3,420 gross tonnage.
PROJECT MARANELLO, CRN Ancona
The 220-foot/67-meter PROJECT MARANELLO – hull number 143 – is a superyacht under construction with the luxury Italian shipyard CRN, part of the Ferretti Group. She will boast elegant aerodynamic lines and precise design features in line with her owner’s vision and requirements.
Like most new luxury boat projects, only a few key details have been released. She will sleep 14 guests across seven staterooms, and amongst her amenities are a touch-and-go helipad and a voluminous beach club. Her interior and exterior design is by Nuvolari Lenard, and she will be built from steel and aluminum.
CRN has also announced that Project MARANELLO will feature an innovative and eco–friendly hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system.
She is scheduled to be delivered in 2024.
PROJECT ASIA, Royal Hakvoort
Project ASIA is a 200.2-foot/61-meter motor yacht under construction at the Royal Hakvoort shipyard. According to the yard, she has been designed with a “carefully considered balance of indoor and outdoor spaces.”
Her interior and exterior design is by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design. She will provide accommodation for up to 12 guests, including the owner’s accommodation on a dedicated private deck and a full-width VIP suite with his and her bathrooms, a lounge with a large dining area, and a seating area and bar. Crew quarters include eight ensuite cabins on the lower deck.
Onboard amenities include a swimming pool, gym, massage room, Hammam, and entertainment area. Her garage has been designed to accommodate two tenders, which can be launched both port and starboard.
It is without question that these luxury yachts under construction promise to redefine the superyacht industry, pushing the boundaries of boat design and engineering more than ever before.

The Up-and-Coming Superyacht Launches of 2022
By Danny Wiser
With many phenomenal superyachts in construction, here are some to look out for due for delivery this year...
Project 404
2022's largest hybrid motor/sailing yacht will measure up at just under 60m and is due to launch by Royal Huisman in Vollenhove, Netherlands. Her exterior is designed by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design and she will have 10 cabins for up to 12 guests available on board.
Project Luminance
A new addition to the Top 10 largest yachts in the world, 2022 will see the launch of this mammoth-sized 145m motor yacht. Built by gigayacht experts Lurssen, Project Luminance will not only be vast in length but also has a 20ft beam.
Bering 145 (44.2m)
As Turkey continues to prove itself as a major player in the shipbuilding industry, Bering Yachts' beautiful 44.2m design, Bering 145, is set to impress. Accomodating up to 12 guests in six cabins she will also play host for up to a dozen crew members to look after guests' needs.
The largest sailing yacht due to kiss the waters in 2022 is Oceanco's Y721. The three-masted schooner, reportedly being built for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, will trump Oceanco's record for the largest sailing yacht in the world, Black Pearl.
Project 6001 (60m)
With a range of 4,500 nautical miles, Dutch innovators' Amels' semi-custom 60m model is expected to wow yacht enthusiasts this year. With a gorgeous exterior designed by the legendary Espen Oeino and her interior being designed by Winch Design, Project 6001 is expected to be valued at a high price.

4 Mega Lürssen Superyachts Set To Launch In 2023
These four mega projects underway at the highly acclaimed German shipyard Lürssen are proof that the trend of building large superyachts, built for adventure, isn’t going anywhere. Owners are still opting for explorer-worthy exteriors while maintaining a classic and luxurious superyacht interior.
Lürssen has a reputation for delivering some of the world’s largest superyachts, a reputation that is sure to continue to be upheld within the next year. Featuring lengths between 80 and 145 metres, these four Lürssen superyachts will be launched this year. Here’s what we know about the various projects, some more elusive than others.
‘Luminance’ – 145m
At 145 metres, the secretive project Luminance is the 7th largest yacht to be built by Lürssen, ranking as the 15th largest superyacht in the world. Construction began in 2018, the vessel was not again seen until May 2021, when she was transported for outfitting. Recently seen for the very first time, the project is currently located in Aumund, Germany as she nears completion. Exterior design is the work of Espen Øino .
‘Jag’ – 122m
Jag joins Luminance in the line-up of the largest superyachts currently under construction in the world, the project was commissioned by a repeat client and is the owner’s third Lürssen superyacht. The yacht hit the water for the first time in 2021, and is due to be delivered this year. The vessel boasts 20 guest cabins and 40 crew cabins, as well as typical luxury superyacht features including a spa, gym, swimming pool, cinema and a dance floor.

‘project icecap’ – 107m.
Known as project ‘ Icecap ‘ during the build, this 107 metre will soon be known as M/Y Shackleton. Perhaps the name is a hint as to the nature of the vessel’s explorative cruising abilities, a further hint is the X-bow and sizeable tender stowage on deck. Recently spotted outside of the shipyard in Wolgast, Germany, she is due to be delivered early this year. Salt Ship Design are responsible for her exterior design and naval architecture.
‘Project 1601’ – 90m

A yacht of this size is expected to feature an amazing amount of luxury amenities and a great selection of toys and additional equipment. She is believed to have two helicopter pads as well as a partially-shaded swimming pool. Unusually, she will be able to accommodate up to thirty-six guests on board, sleeping over twenty ultra-luxurious suites.
She is being built with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure to the Passenger Yacht Code, offering long-range cruising capabilities. Project Redwood is scheduled for delivery in 2020, as one of the largest mega yachts in the world.

FEIG ELECTRONIC: Moscow-City Skyscrapers Streamline Parking Access and Control with Secure RFID
Feig electronic partners with isbc group to deploy ucode dna rfid security and parking access control solution in moscow business district.
Weilburg, Germany — December 3, 2019 — FEIG ELECTRONIC , a leading global supplier of radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and antennas with fifty years of industry experience, announces deployment of the UCODE DNA RFID security and parking contactless identification solution in the Moscow International Business Center, known as Moscow-City, one of the world’s largest business district projects.
The management of Moscow-City not only selected long-range, passive UHF RFID to implement in its controlled parking areas, it also chose to implement UCODE DNA , the highest form of secure RAIN RFID technology, developed by NXP Semiconductors.

“Underscoring NXP’s innovation and leadership in developing advanced RAIN RFID technologies, our UCODE DNA was chosen to be incorporated with the FEIG and ISBC implementation of the contactless identification system in the prestigious Moscow-City,” said Mahdi Mekic, marketing director for RAIN RFID with NXP Semiconductors. “This exciting project represents yet another successful deployment of NXP’s contactless portfolio, and showcases our continued ability to meet the high-security requirements of highly demanding applications without compromising user convenience.”
“UCODE DNA is considered the only identification technology to match the physical protection of a barrier with the cybersecurity necessary to truly protect entrances from unauthorized access,” said Manuel Haertlé, senior product manager for FEIG Electronic. “As a respected contactless payment technology company, FEIG applies security know-how from its payment terminals, which are fully certified according to the latest high-class security standards, into our RFID systems. FEIG vehicle access control RFID readers incorporate advanced secure key storage elements, supporting various methods for secure key injection.”
FEIG’s partner ISBC Group provided the knowledge and support for this successful implementation using FEIG’s long-range UHF RFID . The resulting system enables authorized vehicle entry into areas reserved for private residential use or corporate tenants, while also allowing availability of temporary, fee-based visitor parking. Thanks to the cryptographic authentication of UCODE DNA, both the tag and reader must go through an authentication procedure before the reader will validate the data from the tag, which is transmitted wirelessly. This level of authentication is typically used in the most secure data communication networks.
“The system’s two-step authentication means that only authorized equipment can handle the secure protocol and the data exchange with the UCODE DNA based tag. Without the required cryptographic secrets, other readers would query the tag in vain, because the tag’s response cannot be interpreted or understood,” said Andrey Krasovskiy, director of the RFID department at ISBC Group. “On top of this, each data exchange in the authentication process is unique, so even if a malicious actor were to intercept the communication, the transmission is only good for a single exchange and the tag’s unique identity is protected from cloning.”
Established in 1992 and still growing, Moscow-City is the revitalization and transformation of an industrial riverfront into a new, modern, vibrant and upscale business and residential district. A mix of residential, hotel, office, retail and entertainment facilities, it is located about four kilometers west of Red Square along the Moscow River. Twelve of the twenty-three planned facilities have already been completed, with seven currently under construction. Six skyscrapers in Moscow-City reach a height of at least 300 meters, including Europe’s tallest building, Federation Tower, which rises more than 100 stories.
Partnering with ISBC and deploying FEIG Electronic RFID solutions, the Moscow International Business Center is delivering security and access control to its city center today, as it grows into the city of tomorrow.
