Sardinia luxury yacht charter

Sardinia’s scalloped bays, shimmering sands and dramatic coastline have long been the playground of screen starlets, royalty, first families and the yachting elite. With some of the most exclusive harbours, hotels and restaurants in the western Mediterranean, a luxury yacht charter around the Italian island of Sardinia seamlessly combines sun-soaked glamour with timeless elegance and natural beauty. A Tyrrhenian Sea yacht charter around this island can happily balance partying in hotspots like Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda with an escape to secluded islands and jaw-dropping marine parks in places such as the Maddalena archipelago.

Sardinia yacht season and weather

Sardinia is hot and dry from May to October with the island enjoying an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. Peak charter months are July and August, though June is also an excellent time to charter. August is particularly busy as most Italians take their holidays during this month.

Most rain falls between October and February, giving much of Sardinia a lush and verdant character. Visitors may well experience balmy summer days in March and April, though evenings will be cool during this time of year. The prevailing wind is north westerly, which can be particularly significant on the Strait of Bonifacio at the north of the island.

Sardinia superyacht charter itineraries

Historic Cagliari crowns Sardinia’s southern edge, and a litter of pretty coves and tiny villages then await. With vineyards inland and towns steeped in history, it is a region rich in cultural and gastronomic offerings. Yachts up to 55 metres LOA can drop anchor at Marina di Cagliari. 

To the north, the superyacht haven of Porto Cervo is the central hub for the yachting elite that descend on Sardinia’s glittering Costa Smeralda each summer. Home to some of Europe’s most expensive residences and exclusive resorts, including the iconic Cala di Volpe hotel, Porto Cervo pulsates during the summer season and its bars and restaurants promise a great night ashore. 

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is based in Porto Cervo and organises a packed yacht racing season throughout the summer. Highlights of the Mediterranean cruising calendar in Sardinia include the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, the Maxi Rolex Cup and Rolex Swan Cup – all lively events for sailing enthusiasts in Porto Cervo to get involved with. Yachts up to 120 metres can berth at the IGY marina in Port Cervo.

South of Porto Cervo, the resort village of Porto Rotondo’s turquoise waters, pristine beaches and charming piazzas will prove irresistible, and the port here has 25 berths for megayachts. Cruise 20 nautical miles and dock at Marina di Olbia (for yachts up to 80 metres) to discover the city’s café-lined squares. Further south explore the caves near Cala Luna, where the peaks of Gennargentu National Park provide a dramatic backdrop and the snorkelling is excellent. Nearby Cala Goloritzé is another natural wonder.

From the northern coast of the main island cruise about 10 nautical miles offshore toward the spectacular archipelago of La Maddalena. While away long, languid sunny days around Caprera, Spargi, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Budelli and Razzoli, and discover some of Sardinia’s best beaches and the island’s breathtaking lagoons. On Isola Maddalena, Cala Gavetta marina can host yachts up to 60 metres LOA, as can the marina of the Hotel Excelsior. On Capera, Porto Palma can accommodate yachts up to 40 metres.

Some luxury yacht charters will combine the magic of Sardinia with French-held Corsica – the islands lie in a north to south run, with Corsica sitting off Sardinia’s northerly tip.

On Corsica , visit the historic capital of Porto-Vecchio, discover the UNESCO wonders of the Lavezzi islands and marvel at the houses perched atop the windswept bluffs in Bonifacio before cruising south to the majestic La Maddelena archipelago.

Yacht Charter Itinerary Sardinia

Day 1 – 6 nautical miles

Porto Cervo to Cali di Volpe

On arrival at the international airport, two crew members will warmly welcome you and will transport you to the awaiting tender that will ferry you to the anchorage. After your journey there will be time to relax, explore your surroundings and meet the entire crew while we cruise for about 45 minutes to Cali di Volpe and pick up a mooring for the night. While moored you may enjoy water sports or go to shore in the tender and enjoy the beauty of Cali di Volpe and Porto Cervo.

Cali di Volpe is lined with some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the Mediterranean . It is a breathtaking anchorage where guests can start to adjust to their vacation. Start the process slowly by relaxing or jump right in and get the water toys out!  After dinner a movie under the stars on our outside aft deck can be provided.

Day 2 – 10 nautical miles

Porto Liscia or Saline – La Maddalena Islands

From the lively town of Porto Cervo, we depart this morning for a quiet sail up to La Maddalena Archipelago on the northeast coast of  Sardinia . Only reached by boats or ferries, this charming and largely uninhabited area includes the islands of Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria and Razzoli. The yacht will anchor off Liscia or Saline, which will depend on the weather which spot will be better. During the afternoon the tender will take you around the Archipelago for sightseeing and a breath-taking snorkel.

The main island ‘La Maddalena’ will only be 3 – 4 miles away by tender. It is a very small island with only a handful of sights such as Piazza Umberto, Cala Francese, via Garibaldi that are short distances from one another. Most visitors come to the island to experience the laid back lifestyle of the locals and walking around the island is the best way to do that.  Maddalena offer a few small local restaurants. The food here is mainly local Italian dishes and fresh daily caught seafood.

Day 3 – 19 nautical miles

Iles Lavezzi, Corsica/Bonifacio 

Today we will depart early and anchor off Isles Lavezzi, a remote water park sanctuary that is made up of spectacular rock formations. Its idyllic beaches and shallow seas is an excellent spot to swim, snorkel or dive. The yacht can always arrange a dive boat for this area where it is well known for large colonies of grouper fish and crystal clear water up to sixty feet.  Marked pathways enable you to explore the island.

Bonifacio, Corsica

Bonifacio is an amazing town, dramatically built right on the cliff edge. Here you can get off the boat and enjoy an afternoon at leisure meandering through the medieval lanes, touring the walled fortress area, or strolling along the bluff high above the harbor.  On the tip of the promontory is the marine cemetery and windmills that date from the XII century – but best of all is the view stretching across the straights of Sardinia. Terrace bars and restaurants, ice cream parlors and boutiques welcome you to this St Tropez type enchanting spot, which you can enjoy into the night.

The yacht can rent four-seat dune-buggies with an English speaking guide to take round the beachside and hilltops of  Corsica . This is very highly recommended by previous charter guests.

Day 5 – 15 nautical miles

Santa Amanza, Corsica

In the morning we travel to Santa Amanza and anchor off a very secluded scenic beach area that is great for water sports, relaxing and just getting away from it all. Being sheltered from the weather elements is a great area to have a beach day or picnic on the beach. This anchorage is the true definition of ‘relaxation’.

Day 6 – 24 nautical miles

Porto Cervo

Today we will travel two and a half hours to Porto Cervo and dock in the old town, which is the most exclusive dock in Europe. Here the sightseeing is a must, the shopping is spectacular and if you would like we can organize dinner ashore. Porto Cervo, a recreational Sardinian fishing village, can be described as active, chic, and very popular with royalty and movie stars alike!  In the early afternoon if you would like to venture out and see Sardinia’s countryside, the captain can suggest a tour van or scooters out of Porto Rotondo. The drive is breathtaking and this unique small town offers local shops and restaurants. 

Day 7 – 6 nautical miles

Cala Sabina

In the morning we will move to a more secluded anchorage where we can do water sports for the entire day and enjoy the beachfront. From this area you can take a short tender ride into Porto Rotondo and explore this unique small town that offers a variety of local shopping and restaurants. The yacht will depart Cala Sabina after dinner for a two hour scenic cruise to Olbia for the morning departure.

Day 8 – Disembarkation

The following outlines for your journey is subject to change, as we are dependent on favorable winds and seas. However we know the areas very well and will have several contingency plans. You may like a specific area and choose to stay longer in that particular place.

The customer on board receives 24-hour assistance, also thanks to the SeaTutor monitoring system, and can count on a dedicated Service Operator, ready to respond to any needs of the guest crew, giving the customer the opportunity to experience the sea in total safety.

Group Y has been investing for years in the technical set-up of its boats: from the massive use of photovoltaics, to the elimination of endothermic generators, from the use of double alternators combined with automotive-derived battery packs, to the use of watermakers, from use of purifiers, up to the revolutionary "zero" impact underwater protective coating: the SeaProtector, which replaces traditional antifouling, not only improving the performance of the hull by reducing fuel consumption, but, being totally free of biocides toxic, avoid releasing any type of harmful substance into the water.

Porto Cervo

5-Hour Cruise

Embark on your yacht in Porto Cervo, Sardinia and sail off to Ajaccio, Corsica's capital city and birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte . Anchor for lunch in Sartène as you make your way up. Go onshore to explore the old town or lounge on the water and have dinner aboard amidst the picturesque sunlit hillsides. To savour tasty locally caught crayfish, lobster and fish, make your way to L'Arbousier .

4-Hour Cruise

After breakfast aboard your yacht, anchor in Calvi's crescent-shaped bay with stellar-white sand beach and take the tender to shore to explore the city. Make your way through the city's cobbled streets to visit the Notre-Dame de la Serra and the Baroque St-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral . To end your day, dine at La Signoria , to taste a cuisine that blends Corsican produce with Asian inspiration.

Golfe De Porto

Sail down to one Corsica's famous landscapes, the Gulf of Porto, with its breathtaking red rocks and astonishing bays. Take the rest of the day to explore this UNESCO world heritage site with all its marine life, islands and caves followed by a relaxed 5-star dinner aboard your yacht.

Anchor for lunch in the Golfe of Sagone as you cruise down towards Bonifacio. Perched on top of magnificent limestone cliffs, over the blue Mediterranean Sea, this secluded old town is a French gem. Make your way down the narrow streets through the Roman remains, but don't forget that the city is best explored by sea. Dine at Stella d'Oro , for a perfect end to your day.

Maddalena Islands

Spend the morning anchored at sea to enjoy jet-skiing or kitesurfing on Piantarella Beach's majestic lagoon. Sail off to the Maddalena Archipelago National Park for a peaceful evening in an unspoiled paradise of rock formations and crystal blue sea. Porto Rotondo

Continue heading south along the postcard-worthy coastline of the Costa Smeralda. Anchor in Porto Rotondo for lunch and sail within the beautiful wide bay of Cala di Volpe. Enjoy a fun day of water sports in the tranquil waters.

Head back to the main center of Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo, with its chic boutiques and amazing marina. Admire the mega yachts at the marina, explore the coastal bars and restaurants; at night, dine at Michelin Starred Confusion , and then make your way to Phi Beach or Billionaire's Club to party with the world's top DJs and the jet set crowd.
