Your dream yacht charter starts in Greece

Greece: A Yachting Odyssey

If you’re looking for a dream yacht charter with friends or family that indulges the senses and leaves voyagers with everlasting wonder, then look no further than Greece for your next nautical destination.

Greece stands as the quintessential Mediterranean yachting destination, seamlessly blending natural beauty, cultural heritage, and serene exclusivity.

If you’re looking for the ultimate yacht charter Greece offers a breathtaking odyssey through timeless historical landscapes and ancient wonder — not to mention the incredible beach parties and modern marina amenities.

Island Diversity and Historical Significance

The cosmopolitan allure of Mykonos, Santorini’s breathtaking sunsets, and the serene seclusion of lesser-known gems like Milos and the untouched Folegandros are just a few of the pristine landscapes and locales on these islands just waiting to be explored.

Yachting in Greece is, quite simply, a journey through time. The country is steeped in ancient history, adorned with archaeological wonders from the Ruins of Delphi to the Palace of Knossos in Crete. Yachters can immerse themselves in the footsteps of ancient civilizations while enjoying the modern amenities of luxury vessels.

Greece is home to numerous historical landmarks that have played a significant role in shaping Western civilization.

It’s impossible to mention Greece without mentioning the iconic Acropolis, perched atop a rocky outcrop in Athens. Dominated by the Parthenon, it is a symbol of ancient Greek civilization and the pinnacle of classical architecture.

Explore the remarkable history of Greece aboard a Moran Yacht & Ship charter

Another can’t-miss piece of Western history is Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games — an archaeological site featuring the Temple of Zeus, the Heraion, and the ancient Stadium. The Olympic flame is still lit here before each modern Olympic Games, a testament to its incredible significance.

If you’re looking for a yacht charter Mediterranean options can’t be beat for style, substance, and serenity.

Greece’s Pristine Locales are Second to None

The Greek Islands aren’t only for the historically-obsessed; this stunning archipelago is also renowned for its clear, cobalt-blue waters and perfect yachting conditions.

Explore Greece’s incredible architecture aboard one of our vessels

The Greek archipelago offers endless sailing routes, allowing yachters to craft their dream itinerary. Whether exploring the Cyclades, sailing through the Saronic Gulf, or cruising along the Ionian coast, each route unveils a tapestry of landscapes and experiences.

Yachters have the privilege of anchoring in secluded coves, enjoying private beaches, exploring hidden archaeological gems accessible only by boat, and heading inland to enjoy an authentic taverna lunch in one of the many coastal towns — all in one day.

Consider the Corinth Canal

The Corinth Canal cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth, a narrow land bridge that connects the Peloponnese peninsula with the rest of mainland Greece. The canal effectively separates the Greek mainland from the Peloponnese, transforming it into a virtual island.

The construction of the Corinth Canal posed significant engineering challenges. The canal is cut through solid rock, and its walls rise steeply to a height of approximately 79 meters (259 feet). The precision required to carve through the challenging terrain showcases the engineering prowess on display here, and there have been no engineering marvels to match the canal since it was carved in the 19th century.

The Corinth Canal is relatively narrow, with a width of about 25 meters (82 feet) at sea level. This narrow passage requires precise navigation for vessels to transit successfully. The spectacle of large ships slicing perfectly through the confined waterway adds to the canal’s allure.

The Unmatched Nightlife of Mykonos

For those who crave memories made after dark, Mykonos has earned a reputation as one of the world’s premier party destinations, attracting visitors from around the globe with its vibrant nightlife and lively atmosphere.

Mykonos Marina, also known as the New Port, is a stylish and well-equipped marina on the iconic island and it provides easy access to the island’s vibrant nightlife, upscale shops, and renowned beaches.

Mykonos is famous for its beach parties, where the festivities continue from day to night. Beach clubs such as Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beach host energetic parties with DJs, dancing, and a lively beach atmosphere.

The island is home to renowned nightclubs that cater to diverse tastes in music and entertainment. Clubs like Cavo Paradiso and Scandinavian Bar are iconic destinations for those seeking top-notch DJ performances and an electrifying dance floor.

Mykonos attracts a glamorous crowd, including numerous celebrities like Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian to moguls such as Jeff Bezos — so have your phones ready to snag some pics. Exclusive venues and events often host A-list guests, adding to the island’s allure as a high-profile party destination.

When to go: May through early October

The yacht charter season in Greece begins in early May and runs through early October; however, most charter guests visit during the high season of July and August. During these warm months, prices are generally higher (as much as 10%) and so is demand, so we recommend booking far enough in advance to ensure that you secure the best boat and crew for your needs.

The Meltemi wind can be strong during the summer months, especially in the Cyclades Islands.

During the months surrounding the high season – May, June, September, and early October – the weather is pleasant and Greece yacht charters may be easier to book. There will be fewer tourists on land and the waters will be clear. The Meltemi winds have not begun or have already ceased.

Why charter a yacht in Greece?

Santorini white houses

Remarkable ancient history

Greece is known as the birthplace of democracy and Western civilization. Remnants still stand of ancient Greek and Minoan civilizations with well-preserved monuments, artifacts, and ancient sites.

Unique architecture

Greece has an architecture that dates back as far as 600 B.C. Many visitors come to enjoy its temples, most of which are in ruins, though some are quite intact. Greece is also known for its open-air theaters, which date from Hellenic times, around 350 B.C. Additionally, there are public squares, mausoleums, gateways, and colonnades.

Great local cuisine and wine

While in Greece, charter guests take advantage of the delicious Greek cuisine and wine offerings, which are an important part of the culture.

Sampling the delicious moussaka, a staple of most Greek meals is a must. This oven-baked casserole includes eggplant and spiced meat filling, topped with a creamy béchamel. Baklava should also be on your trip menu. It’s a crunchy, sweet pastry made of flaky phyllo dough and cinnamon-spiced nut filling, covered in syrup. Yacht charters to Greece will typically serve these dishes on-board, but nothing can compare to eating them fresh when visiting the islands.

As for beverages, white wine is popular in the warm lands of Greece. The lovely Assyrtiko, a Santorini varietal, has a light lemon and fruity flavor. Or sample a Restina wine, a white that’s infused with the sap of the Allepo pine tree and a Greek specialty.

Natural beauty

Greece yacht charters can provide guests with unique views of the more than 6,000 islands and islets throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Beaches range from pristine white sands to deep black in color. Greece has it all: pebble beaches, sheltered bays, coves, coastal caves, wetlands, rocky interiors, calderas, and olive groves!

Spectacular coastline

The coastline of Greece, including the islands, is almost 10,000 miles long. You can find sandy beaches, pebble shorelines, darkened caves, and steep rock walls. There are many inlets, bays, and peninsulas along the shoreline, making for excellent cruising and water sports. This incredible coast makes Greece the perfect destination for yacht charters.

Great beaches

Whether you prefer a traditional white-sand beach, an elegant pebble beach, or a unique black-sand beach, the islands of Greece can provide it. You will be able to locate both secluded beaches with not a soul in sight and popular beaches with partygoers or families.

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). The remainder of the APA is returned after charter.">Price Terms: Plus Expenses

Let us organise your perfect Greece yacht charter itinerary.

Our expert brokers know the cruising grounds intimately, both personally through first-hand experience and in real time through contacts on the ground. Your Greek yacht charter itinerary will be tailored specifically for you to deliver the holiday you want.

New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Sailing in Greece

Fantastic beaches, enchanting bays, picturesque fishing villages and cosy tavernas are what make a sailing trip in Greece so special. For many sailors, a yacht charter in Greece is justifiably one of the most attractive sailing areas in the Mediterranean. With a coastline of 13,000 km and 1,400 small islands, you can go on a discovery tour with a sailing yacht or a catamaran.

Sailing boat or sailing yacht charter in Greece

The huge sailing estuary of Greece cannot be explored in a single sailing trip. As the area is so vast and varied, there is something new to discover on every trip. Beautiful beaches enchant sailors with their very own charm. Sailors can expect pristine bays and dreamlike beaches with crystal-clear water that invite them to snorkel and relax. Sailors interested in history will also get their money's worth on a yacht charter in Greece . Ancient ruins and medieval buildings can be explored. Let yourself be inspired by the historical settlements, castles from the time of the Crusades and a landscape that could not be more diverse during a sailing trip in Greece. For a shore excursion, however, leisurely strolls along the lively harbour promenades are also an option. Stroll through the alleys and enjoy the typical Greek specialities in the restaurants.

Yacht charter in Greece: Sailing bases from Pitter Yachtcharter

Our yacht charter bases Volos, Lefkas and Lavrion in Greece are the gateway to the most beautiful sailing areas. They offer a variety of different opportunities. From our sailing base in Volos , you can experience the beauty and unspoilt nature of the Northern Sporades on a cruise. Nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet will find an almost untouched island world with lonely bays and dream beaches.

Beginners and families are thrilled by this protected area. The Meltemi winds are weaker here than in the rest of the Aegean, and especially in spring and early summer, the northern Sporades are also very suitable for less experienced sailors. In the few harbours, it can get quite lively in the summer months due to the low density of harbours. From Volos you can explore the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos.

For a trip to the well-known Ionian Islands, we recommend renting a boat from the Nautic Alliance Base in Korfu or from our Nautic Alliance base in Lefkas . Korfu and the area around the islands of Lefkas, Meganisi, Kefalonia and Zakynthos are a family-friendly thermal area in summer. The Meltemi usually starts in the late morning and increases during the day with about 3-4 Beaufort to the ideal sailing wind, which then decreases very quickly in the evening, making the nights when mooring mostly calm and unproblematic. Both lively seaside resorts and traditional fishing villages can be found there.

Whichever sailing trip in Greece you choose, you'll be cruising deep blue, crystal clear waters with your crew or with a skipper and sailing past the typical whitewashed houses of Greece. The best sailing time for beginners and families is in spring and early summer as well as autumn, when the Meltemi, the prevailing wind in the summer months in the Aegean, is not yet so strong. In July and August, the Cyclades are a challenging sailing area with winds of up to 8 Beauforts. Strong winds here provide experienced sailors with optimal conditions for a yacht charter in Greece .

Base: Volos

Map Route 1

Location descriptions

Gulf of volos.

The Gulf of Volos is a protected sailing area and offers good opportunities for bathing stops and overnight stays at anchor in almost every bay. Numerous nice harbor towns are very close to each other here.

The area of the Gulf of Volos and the Northern Sporades is a very original area with numerous anchor bays. The further you move from Volos to the east, the more beautiful and lonely the area seems to be and the density of the bays is increasing. A part of Greece with friendly people and beautiful beaches, which has largely proven its authentic and original charm. You will be enthusiastic.

The harbor town of Volos is located in the Gulf of Volos, also known as the Pagasetic Gulf. Surrounded by a massive mountain range, here in the circular, only 15 nautical miles wide Gulf of Volos, nice little port towns and almost secluded coves together. The Gulf of Volos alone is worth the trip. The large, well-protected port of Volos, is located near the airport and offers all utilities. Therefore, Volos is also an ideal starting point for trips to the Northern Sporades.

Volos

Amaliapolis, Gulf of Volos

Amaliapolis on the west coast of the gulf is a typical small Greek harbor town. In addition to a worth seeing church and attractive taverns, there are several small shops and an excellent beach. Attention! To the north and west extends a military restricted area.

Bay Ormos Nies, Gulf of Volos

This very deep bay is located south of Amaliapolis and promises quiet anchorages. In the west of the bay there is a shallow pebble beach, ideal for bathing for families with small children.

Harbor Milina, Ormos Vathoudi, Bay Zasteni, Kottes

On the east coast of the Pagasetic Gulf, the small port of Milina is just in front of the entrance to the bay Ormos Vathoudi. Protected by the island of Alatas, Milina offers limited space for smaller yachts. There are some taverns and simple grocery stores to supply. In calm weather you can stay in the bay Zasteni or at least take a bath stop. In Kottes there are two nice fish restaurants.

Agios Ioannis, Gulf of Volos

Only 15 nautical miles from Volos lies Agios Ioannis in the south, at the exit of the gulf on the inside of the only 2 km long peninsula Paleo TRIKERI.

Agia Kyriaki, GULF of Volos

The small port of Agia Kyriaki is right at the exit of the gulf. It is a small inconspicuous place without much hustle and bustle, hardly touristy but with some good taverns and nice little shops.

Chondri Ammos

Chondri Ammos Bay is on the north side of the Trikeri Passage on the way to Skiathos. On the south side, the bay borders on a bright quarry visible from afar. In the northern bay you can safely anchor. However, there are no supply options.

Platanias on the outside of the peninsula Pilion

Hardly visited bay with a small mole. At the end of the incision is a small clean and completely natural sandy beach.

Skiathos, Bay Koukounaries

Unlike in the rest of the area, there is a lot of tourism on the island of Skiathos. Here you will find many dream beaches with beach bars and loud music. But towards evening, the beach chairs are empty and the many day tourists disappear. What remains is the peace and originality of the Northern Sporades. After days in lonely, often deserted bays, Skiathos is usually a pleasant change. The bay Koukounaries offers both, lively beach life with nice bars during the day and a picture book bay with calmly bobbing yachts under a magnificent starry sky in the evening. The elongated anchor bay with crystal clear water is framed by pine-covered green hills. Her beach is one of the most beautiful in Greece.

Skiathos

Skiathos, Skiathos city

Skiathos town is the big contrast to the rest of the area. There is party here. Skiathos is a lively tourist resort. It is a ferry hub and therefore it is not always easy to find a place in the harbor. The place, with its winding streets, gilded houses and small shops is quite an experience. On a hill, high above the old port of the city, invitingly stands an old windmill that has been converted into a restaurant. From here you have a wonderful 360 ° view!

Skopelos, Skopelos city

As well as in Skiathos town, in the main town of Skopelos on the island of the same name, in contrast to the other destinations, something more is going on. The pier along the city, there is just behind the breakwater, a small pebble beach with offshore rocks, ideal for snorkelling. Here you can swim and snorkel and enjoy a leisurely stroll through the town and have a nice dinner.

Skopelos, Loutraki

Small nice place. From here, a hiking trail (about 45-60 minutes walk) leads to the famous mountain village of Glossa. „Glossa“ means tongue - and this depends on one, there arrived in the truest sense of the mouth, because the way to the mountain village is steep and exhausting but thoroughly recommended! If you want to do it easier, take the taxi or the bus to Skopelos city to Glossa. With its narrow houses with colourful wooden balconies and shutters, steep lanes and narrow staircases and many churches, the place exudes a particularly lovely flair. Also the sea view is fantastic!

Skopelos, Kastani Beach

Kastani Beach is a nice swim stop when travelling from Loutraki to Panormos.

Skopelos, Kastani Beach

Skopelos, Panormos

The bay Panormos is situated in a picturesque forest environment. In the southern part there is a fjord-like nick, in which one lies particularly well. But there are no supply options.

Skopelos, Agnontas

In the small port of Agnontas supply and a nice shore leave is possible. With winds from the northwest and southwest as well as by the fast ferries rushing by, unfortunately terrible threshold arises in the bay. If there is no threshold in the village, especially the wide beach of the idyllic fishing village is recommended. There are some good taverns with fish and grill specialties and a small supermarket for shopping.

Skopelos, Staphylos

Fantastic bay with a large beach and bizarre rock formations. The bay is ideal for snorkelling. Above the bay is a small resort with good supply options.

Alonissos, Patitiri

In the main port Patitiri there are numerous taverns, bars and a supermarket. Surrounded by rock walls you lie nice on the promenade. The Chora on the hill above, the beautifully restored old town of Old Alonissos offers a fabulous view over the coast! The ascent takes about an hour and is quite difficult. For inexperienced hikers, however, there is also a bus from Patitiri high in the mountain village.

Alonissos, Ormos Kokkinokastro

The entrance to this beautiful bay is due to the shallows between Alonnisos and the small islet, from the east. Attention! Take special care in this area while navigating. From far away you can see the red rocks of Kokkinokastro, which means "red castle". Here are the remains of an ancient city wall.

Alonissos, Tzortzi

The island of Alonnisos is considered the most peaceful and pristine island of the Northern Sporades. Tzortzi is a nice spacious bay in charming surroundings. Unfortunately, without any supply options. Very well protected, except in strong easterly winds.

Alonissos, Steni Vala

Steni Vala is located approximately in the middle of the 20 kilometer long southeastern coast of Alonnisos. Steni Vala is a nice, sleepy-looking fishing village with moorings and numerous rows of taverns on the wharf.

Peristera, Peristeri

The bay offers perfect protection at Meltemi and is therefore very popular. Since the island is undeveloped, there are no supply options. The most beautiful one lies in front of the sandy beach at the northeastern end of the bay.

Sporting sailing crews can also make a long strike from here with about 30 nautical miles plus to the island of SKYROS. This diverse island is a bit off the beaten tourist route and looks cyclically as well as the wind conditions according to already Cycladic.

Please note that this is just a possible trip suggestion. The Croatian coast, with its countless small islands and bays, offers a a lot of bathing stops and sailing opportunities. Please adapt your individual route to the given wind and weather conditions.

Route 2 (1 week)

Map Route 2

Agia Kyriaki, Gulf of Volos

Route 3 (1 week).

Map Route 3

From Volos , head towards Sporaden. The GOLF of Volos and the Northern Sporades offer best sailing conditions with short distances.

SKIATHOS is the tourist center of the Sporades. This is due to the many ferry services and the international airport lively.

On SKOPELOS you will find beautiful quiet bays. Known as the filming location of the movie "Mama Mia", however, there is lively film tourism in Skopelos town and on the northeast coast, near the small rock chapel of Agios Ioannis, which served as the wedding church in the musical.

The neighbor islands ALONNISOS and PERISTERA are much quieter, here you will find the original Greece. Picturesque harbors with colorfully painted fishing boats and small beach promenades with typical taverns characterize the area.

Visit the old town towering over the harbor, the chora of the main town Patitiri on ALONNISOS. The ascent is steep and difficult, but it‘s worth it. Or enjoy a relaxed docking night in perfect darkness on the small uninhabited island of PERISTERA. The area offers everything for a varied trip!

Route 1 (1 week)

Base: Lefkas

Map Route 1

Location Descriptions

Lefkas lefkas.

The main town of the Ionian island Lefkada in the northeast of the island begins almost direct at the drawbridge, which connects Lefkada with the mainland. The center next to the church is very busy with many large cafes, restaurants and bars. Particularly popular with visitors are the small, winding and very colorful streets of the city, in the pedestrian area there are numerous shops for shopping and strolling. Worth seeing is the metal belfry of the Chapel of Agios Nikolaos, which consists of striking metal bracing because of the earthquake endangerment of Lefkas. The most popular restaurants are located on the harbor promenade where countless yachts are anchored.

Lefkas

The city of Preveza is located at the tip of the peninsula that separates the Ambrakian Gulf from the Ionian Sea, just next to Lefkas, your port of departure. Along the coast on both sides of the city are numerous beaches. The cityscape of the lovely Venetian-style town, is characterized by generous mansions and numerous churches such as the Elias church. Also beautiful are the many flowering gardens and courtyards of the city.

The small charming island of Paxox has high cliffs with grottos in the west. Its harbors are Lakka, Longos and Gaios, of which Longos is recommended only in perfectly calm conditions. Highlights include the bay of Lakka, the city harbor of Gaios with the ancient fortress ruin and the beaches in the northeast of Antipaxos.

  • Lakka is a dream of an anchor bay. Thanks to the sandy bottom, it shines in all shades of turquoise. The large lagoon-like bay is very crowded, but offers enough space and shelter for many yachts. At the pier in the center many crews sit till late at night. Lakka is a quiet place with all utilities. On the hills covered with olive groves is a lovely chapel from where you have a magnificent view of the sea.
  • Gaios: The port of Gaios is safe and very protected, but much busier. Even the journey to Gaios is special. You drive through a narrow tube-like channel behind the offshore island of Nikolaos to the harbor. The best places are near the bell tower at the small church in the back of the port. In the village there are many nice side streets, where souvenir shops, greengrocers, bakers, shops and cosy taverns can be found. Nearby hidden is a worth seeing fortress ruin with well-preserved watchtowers, cistern and two cannons in a beautiful pine forest.

Paxos

Mourtos/Syvota

Is a place with some offshore islands, city harbor and various anchorages. Mourtos has a safe little marina with a variety of restaurants and bars along the waterfront. Life is concentrated here at the harbor pier. Northwest of the marina is a jetty, which belongs to the restaurants and attracts with a huge waterslide.Between the two islands there are good anchorages, but the passage is not passable for yachts! Alternatively, there is the northern port of Plataria, the quieter option to Mourtos. Or rather to the small but beautiful island Paxox opposite?

Corfu, the second largest island in the Ionian Sea, is a very green island. There is a lot to see and to do.

  • Corfu Town is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece, with impressive squares, narrow streets and houses in Venetian style. Recommended is visiting the nearby Achillion Palace of Empress Sisi and the picturesque village of Kanoni, a place on the peninsula of the same name, 5 km south of Corfu town. There is a magnificent view of the beautiful white monastery Vlacherna and the “Mouse-Island” - Pontikonissi. Especially interesting for children, the immediate proximity to the runway of the airport of Corfu. Here you can almost touch the aircraft, which fly direct over your head to the runway.

Parga is picturesquely situated on a mountain slope, the building rises steeply to the old fort. The winding alleyways of the old town extend all the way up and give a magnificent view of the offshore island of Panagia with its small chapel. Parga is one of those typical places of the Ionian Sea with changeable history. Settled early, Turks, Venetians, English and French invaded this beautiful place one after the other and left their tracks behind. Sailors who want to visit this idyllic place can anchor to the east of the small island or head to the small harbor west in the bay Valtou.

Parga

The small island (20 km²) Meganisi is only half a mile east of Lefkada. Meganisi is largely spared of mass tourism. Meganisi, is known for its many interesting caves and beautiful beaches. Most places are right on the water, you sit in the cafe, with your own yacht right in front of your feet. The only village Spartochorion is situated over the small port of Porto Spilia and offers its visitors the typical Greek idyll.

Meganisi

Ithaca, the former home of Odysseus, has many beautiful beaches and anchorages.

  • Vathi: The main town of Vathi, which is surrounded by two hills, has one of the largest natural harbors and is located in an almost fjord-like, spacious bay. The various anchorages in Vathi offer a beautiful view of the town and the pier. Vathi is particularly attractive in the second row behind the waterfront between taverns, mini markets, shops and colorful homes. Here, sailors can provide with food or sit comfortably in a cafe or bar or have a good meal. With the dinghy you can also visit the chapel island Lazaretto in the bay.
  • Pera Pigadi is one of the most beautiful anchor bays on the southeast side of Ithaca. The uninhabited islet of Pera Pigadi is located in the bay of the same name, separated from a narrow channel. There are several attractive anchorages.

Ithaka

Beautiful bays in front of imposing cliffs, secluded mountain landscapes, tranquil villages and ancient monasteries - the Ionian island of Kefalonia is still one of the real insiders' tips among fans of Greece. The island has a breathtaking nature with beautiful beaches, caves and grottos as well as various sights to offer.

  • Efimia: In the deep bay of Sami on the east side of Kefalonia lies the port of Efimia. One reason why many crews come to Efimia is a stalactite cave with an underground lake. Through the narrow opening in the ceiling at noon light falls into the vault and lets the lake shine in a deep blue.
  • Poros: Poros is a picturesque harbor town surrounded by mountains. Here you will find many bars, fish taverns, restaurants and shops. Outside in Poros at Broutzi you can see old tombs from the Mycenaean period. An important sight, just a few kilometers from Poros, is the Monastery of the Holy Mother of Atros (13th century), located on the top of Mount Atros. It is the oldest monastery of Kefalonia and the view from above, especially at sunrise is beautiful. Due to its impressive underwater world, the idyllic harbor town is also a true paradise for people who like snorkeling.
  • Argostoli: In the deep bay of Sami on the east side of Kefalonia lies the port of Efimia. One reason why many crews come to Efimia is a stalactite cave with an underground lake. Through the narrow opening in the ceiling at noon light falls into the vault and lets the lake shine in a deep blue.
  • Asos  is one of the few ways to make a nice stop on the western side of the Ionian Islands, mostly limited to travelers who take a break on the way to Myrtos beach or Fiskardo. But Assos is a real hit, a quaint little Greek port. In Assos there are ruins of an ancient fortress, which can be explored within a 30-minute walk.
  • Fiskardo is a traditional fishing village with typical Greek flair. The picturesque little streets are adorned with beautiful flowers hanging from the balconies. Fiskardo is densely overgrown with forests. Especially worth seeing are the old Norman church ruins and the large round lighthouse.

On the small island of Kalamos most people live in the very lively village of the same name. Popular here is a hike to the windmills on the beach, but you can also anchor directly in the bay at the windmills - a popular photo opportunity! In the southern part of the island, facing the neighboring island of Kastos, is one of the most beautiful bays of Greece: Port Leone. With a view over the mountain scenery of Kalamos, the "ghost village" Port Leone lies here on a rocky ledge which offers itself for a discovery tour.

Kalamos

The island offers a number of very good anchorages on its south, west and east side. With turquoise water, the island is perfect for a swim stop. The small sleepy village Kastos owns a small typical harbour, but you can also anchor in the bay. On land there is little, a mini market, two taverns and the obligatory small church.

Kastos

On the just 4 km long and 1 km wide island is the well-known "One House Bay", which actually houses two houses, a chapel and a simple house. The bay offers a beautiful beach with turquoise sea against the backdrop of towering white limestone.

Kefalonia

Zakynthos, one of the most famous Ionian tourist islands is very densely populated. Both, quiet fishing or mountain villages, as well as tourist resorts with nightlife until the morning, can be found there. Benefiting from the crystal clear water, there are many diving schools. Highlights of the island are: the Wreck Bay, the bay with the stranded freighter to the west, the „Blue“ cave and caves on the northeast side, Zakynthos town itself, the National Park with the island of turtles (Marathonissi), and the many other wonderfull bays in the south. A trip to the private island of Marathonissi, the turtle island, is perfect for people who like snorkeling. Also worth seeing is the small town of Limni Keri, which is located in the southwest of the island. Here you will find a lighthouse that offers a phenomenal view of the sea. Or the small bathing and party island Cameo in the very south. The small island is connected with a wooden walkway with Zakynthos and in the evening the bay turns into a party hotspot.

Zakynthos

  • Argostoli: In Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, life takes place. Along the road "Lithostroto" the various sights line up. Bright violet flowers lush on the facades. Around the docks picturesquely saffron yellow or blue painted houses alternate with cafes, bars and souvenir shops.

Lefkas Syvota

Ormos Syvota lies in a perfectly protected bay. There is enough space for many yachts , next to the very long pier on the west side, the entire bay can also be used as anchorage. There are lots of bars and taverns. Syvota is characterized by the sailing scene, except surfers, there are hardly any tourists.

Meganisi

Lefkas Nidri

Nidri is a vibrant tourist destination with a large selection of cafes, bars and taverns. Nidri has a lively nightlife, the nights here are longer than in other parts of the area. Parallel with the pier in the main street behind the first row of houses there are numerous small shops, restaurants and supermarkets. In spring a hike to the waterfall (only 3 km away, signposted: Katarakes, north of the ferry pier) is very nice, but in summer it is only a small trickle.

Greece and the Greek islands are a dream destination for sailors . Already in spring and even in autumn, sailors will find pleasantly warm temperatures with lots of sun and ideal wind conditions.

In March and April, temperatures average 17°C during the day and 12°C at night. From May onwards, temperatures rise to an average of 25°C during the day and 23°C at night. The summer months of July and August are the hottest months, with temperatures of up to 40°C during the day and up to 25°C at night. Even in the low season, from September to November, it is still very mild, with an average of 23°C during the day and up to 19°C at night.

  • Volos: Warm and clear summers await you in Volos . The best time to visit is between the end of June and the end of August. In July, the temperatures in Volos are at their highest (approx.30°C). The sailing wind Meltemi blows much stronger here in spring than in the summer months, where it provides pleasant sailing conditions.
  • Lefkas: From May to October, you can always expect pleasantly warm temperatures for your sailing trip on the island of Lefkas. August has an average temperature of 30°C. The water temperature is already around 23°C in May and rises to 26 to 28°C in the summer months. The sailing wind Meltemi usually blows here in summer from late morning to early evening, the summer nights are usually windless, ideal for mooring.
  • Lavrion: From April onwards, the weather in Lavrion is already wonderful . The warmest months are June, July, August, and September. The Meltemi (dry cool north wind; brings good visibility) blows especially in the summer months of June to September. The pleasantly cooling but often very strong sailing wind Meltemi usually blows from afternoon until sunset. In the Cyclades you will find ideal sailing weather for experienced crews with plenty of wind, in the Saronic and Argolic Gulf the wind conditions are much milder. However, beware of cape and jet effects between the islands.

Dream Yacht in Grenada

We were aware that we were renting an older - 7 yr old boat that had been all over the place. In the Charter world the 3 year old boats are hard used. We did an older bareboat primarily for the lower price and knew there would be some issues but they usually don’t cause much trouble for a seasoned crew. The boat had a great refrigeration system, lots of cookware, good charts, nice windlass, and staff provided us with new cockpit chair cushioning and French press as we are Americans who like that sort of thing. It was a typical used boat with stuff that is used. Staff was very responsive to problems with mooring balls (not DYC’s fault) and difficulty with dinghy engine starts (we just had to acclimate to a coy Mercury). We like the people, and the boat was as is to be expected. We spent around 5 grand a week for a full 3 staterooms. We were happy. We enjoyed the captain’s meeting and received many good suggestions on where to go. Remember always swim your mooring ball - we were adrift and on the rocks due to a defective mooring ball. DYC is where you want to go if you are seasoned and want to spend most of your time in the water or at the beach.

An absolute nightmare

An absolute nightmare! I regret to say that my experience with Dream Yacht Charters BVI was utterly disappointing, warranting a one-star rating. The boat we rented was in deplorable condition, plagued by a plethora of issues. From cockroaches scurrying about to incessant leakage, malfunctioning batteries, broken drawers and cabinets, and a malfunctioning anchor, it was a nightmare from the start. Moreover, the absence of electricity, because of a malfunctioning battery pack/alternater, resulted in no power for essential appliances like the fridge, navigation instruments, anchor and lights which only exacerbated the situation. The poorly insulated engine turned the interior into an unbearable sauna, making our journey intolerable. Adding insult to injury, the caleche was leaking, further dampening our spirits. Despite these glaring problems, the office's response was appalling. They attempted to shift blame onto us and offered minimal assistance, if any. The litany of issues disrupted our planned route, forcing frequent stops for shore power every 2-3 days, driving up expenses due to exorbitant harbor prices. Additionally, the malfunctioning anchor necessitated costly moorings, further inflating our financial burden. In summary, our experience with Dream Yacht Charters was marred by incompetence, neglect, and a complete lack of accountability.

DYC makes it really easy to charter

DYC makes it really easy to charter a bareboat sailing vacation. Having done a dozen trips with the competition in BVI, Bahamas, Greece, Italy, etc I feel more confident in Dream's ability to get you on a high quality boat on time and in good condition. When they missed the boat (pun intended) in one situation, they were also gracious about admitting fault and offering a credit to future trips. I especially want to call out Savannah Collins on the American sales team who was a joy to work with over the phone. Thanks for everything Savannah!

Unsafe yacht

I chartered a 52 ft yacht in Antigua and it was unfit for purpose and potentially dangerous. There was an extensive list of faults which ruined our holiday, including a windlass that did not operate, an anchor that did not swivel, reefing lines jammed in the boom and hazardous swim ladder. The yacht also lacked basic appliances, had a hole in the kettle and missing fire extinguishers. This is an accident waiting to happen. I could go on… Dream yachts refused to even acknowledge my emails and sent no apologies. Avoid them at all cost.

Don't let your dream vacation turn into a nautical nightmare like ours!

Dear sailors and travelers, I am writing to you with a heavy heart and the need to warn you about my disastrous experience with Dream Yacht Charter (DYC). Recently, I entrusted this company for a dream trip through the Caribbean, only to find myself plunged into a nautical nightmare that dashed our carefully planned vacation and endangered our lives. From the outset, DYC's service left much to be desired. While the first few days of our journey went smoothly, everything unraveled when we experienced serious mechanical issues with the vessel. Two engines failed mysteriously, leaving us stranded in the middle of the ocean with no propulsion. Imagine the anguish and fear of being stuck at sea with families and children on board! But the worst was not just the mechanical failure, but DYC's incompetence and lack of accountability in addressing the situation properly. They ignored our distress calls, left us adrift for hours, and only after the situation became critical did they decide to take action. And I can't even begin to describe the additional problems we faced when we were finally "rescued"! DYC's response to this disaster? A refusal to acknowledge their responsibility and an offer of insultingly insignificant compensation. Not only did they refuse to reopen our claim, but they also attempted to discredit our version of events, implying that we were never offered the additional sailing days we claimed. Dear sailors, if you value your safety and your vacation, I urge you to steer clear of DYC like the plague. This company not only lacks integrity and professionalism, but also jeopardizes the lives of its customers with its negligence and lack of care. Don't let your dream vacation turn into a nautical nightmare like ours!

Poorly maintained boats

For reference, I've chartered in the BVIs about 12 times over almost 45 years, as well as Greece, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, and elsewhere. We chartered in late Jan (2024) from Dream Yacht Charters out of Hodges Creek Marina near Fat Hog Bay on Tortola. On the one hand, sailing in the BVIs is always wonderful, so I'm not doing a hand-wringing "our trip was ruined" post. On the other hand ... The older boats at Dream Yachts are very poorly maintained. We faced myriad problems, including an ancient repeatedly patched bimini and dodger that ripped on the first windy day, and a hole in the galley floor caused by one of the checkout crew, that was never fixed. Multiple systems were leaking into the bilge or broken, including the A/C pump (leaking at the thru-hull!) and the galley seawater pump. The fresh water system broke halfway into the trip. Most alarming was the failure of one of the head macerator pumps -- they checked to see if "we'd clogged it". The "technician" disappeared into the head with a wad of paper in his hand, closed the door behind him so I couldn't see, and then announced that the pump output pipe (that I had previously checked) was clogged! A complete scam/ripoff. The sails on our boat were old and patched, the V-berth mattress and all the cushions mold- and mildew-stained, and everything generally tired. The galley was awful, with two wine glasses (for max pax of 8) and zero tumblers. We had to ask for a pot big enough to cook pasta, and for a colander. The shore power at the marina didn't work (we didn't stay at marinas elsewhere) -- which threatened to spoil our newly-purchased provisions. Of folks we met from other boats, one had a problem with their winch, and I heard of many other problems. Bottom line -- they don't maintain their boats. I'll never charter from Dream Yacht again (at least in the BVIs).

Dream Yacht Charter Raiatea Bora Bora

We had a blast on a 5-days trip around Raiatea, Taha’a & Bora Bora. Conditions were exceptional so was the crew. We had a beautiful and confortable catamaran for the 7 of us with plenty of space. The crew was super friendly and knowledgeable bringing us to beautiful snorkelling and cultural places around the different islands. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience!

Fantastic experience all round

Fantastic experience once again delivered by Dream Yacht Charters in the UK. Transparent pricing from the start and excellent value. Could not believe that the insurance indemnity was included in the price! Lorraine could not have worked harder to guide us on location and yachts to suit our needs. Any questions were dealt with quickly and professionally. The yacht we chartered met with our expectations and I have no doubt that had we experienced any difficulties at the base, Lorraine would have done her utmost to sort. Thank you for such a first class service. We will continue to charter from Dream Yacht Charters without reservation

First experience with DYW and first…

First experience with DYW and first time with DY Croatia. Preparation and briefing with the service team in US was so thorough that when I got to Dubrovnik ACI Marina everything run smoothly. No hidden costs, everything very transparent. We took a skipper who happened to be top notch, a local celebrity. Trip was excellent in all respects but we had little wind and we had to motor most of the time: next time I will make sure we reserve minimum guaranteed winds of 15 knots LOL

Dream Yacht Charter is HIGH Risk - Avoid!

If I can prevent just one more bad, unsafe DYC boat experience, maybe yours, then writing this review was worth it. We have discovered Dream Yacht Charter has earned a highly questionable reputation for providing poorly maintained boats for charter and based on our recent experience it is well earned. See the fast-growing 2,400 Member Facebook page: groups/dreamyachtchartersuck and TripAdvisor.com's almost 50% 1-star DYC reviews. Most of those with posted DYC issues have received no recourse, may have faced serious safety situations due to poor boat maintenance and/or support, may have sued, but like us, are seeking to prevent others from experiencing DYC’s lack of concern for charterer safety, maintenance incompetence, and blatant contract breaches. Charter DYC at your own risk. If interested, here’s our DYC experience. We chartered a boat for 8 days out of Nassau with indicators of issues to come on day 1 - the generator not working (yes, it worked at the dock and we did as thorough a boat check as allowed). The following 3 days turned into hell due to a dysfunctional boat promised in their contract to be in "good working order.” DYC breached our contract in 3 important ways. By day 3, the boat’s batteries were completely depleted. We had lost 2 nights sleep due to alarms going off throughout the night and a generator out of oil as we hung on an anchor in 35 knot winds completely without power for engines, navigation systems, lighting, windlass, or icebox cooling, etc. The batteries were truly dead, and would not hold a charge for more than 1 hour. DYC later denied this important fact – they missed the source maintenance problem. In the end, we had to count on our own backup phone batteries to have any communication at all. By this time, we were labeled a “distressed vessel” by the National Park Ranger who checked on us repeatedly until DYC eventually showed up. This, a second contract breach when a support vessel was not sent out as promised within 4 hours, let alone the next several days. Of note, 4 other DYC boats within a 5 mile radius also had crippling issues, including a broken halyard, a damaged transmission, broken generator, and disabled engine. After 3 days on anchor, DYC’s repair crew arrived and jerry-rigged the generator (their words), never fixing the batteries, and we were evacuated from the boat. A 3rd contract breach, no other boat or lost charter time reimbursement was then provided to us per our contract (and their own marketing materials and salespeople). During one long night while waiting for assistance, we discovered that the chartplotter listed all the same engine and battery alarms we were experiencing during the charter before ours – evidence of questionable maintenance and safety. Despite the evidence, and after multiple requests, no refund or credit was offered, and only a denial of our experience was received by DYC. While some of you may have had a more positive DYC experience, should you charter from DYC in the future you do so at your own risk and may also be left in a dangerous situation with wholly inadequate charter support and a company that does not appear to value customer safety, its own contracts, or satisfaction. Based on our research and the Facebook page, it appears DYC’s poor maintenance is experienced in nearly every charter location worldwide, and its corporate integrity a systemic safety issue. We encourage you to read the reviews before signing up, and taking them seriously - their contract is worthless to you. Bad charter boats do happen, but it appears DYC's are the worst, obfuscated by great marketing. We encourage you to stay safe and to look into other charter company alternatives.

Unfortunately disappointing (Abacos)

Unfortunately our 3rd tour with DYC was disappointing. The captain was disinterested, rude and barely present. The Abacos are still worth seeing - with a different crew. Despite our feedback, Dream Yacht Charter didn't get in touch. Bad customer service for us. We sailed the last time. Well, we hardly sailed.

No Dream in Dream yacht Charter

This was my worst vacation. We bare boated and the boat broke down, for 5 days we were stuck in a marina, while the boat was repaired and DYC has refused to do anything. these additional costs, we didn't plan for, and we lost a huge part of our vacation. before you book with them, try getting a hold of the base in the Bahamas, or a supervisor or someone who deals with complaints or refunds. Aside from sales/customer service (booking) you wont get past the iron curtain!

Dodging any issues.

We lost one day of our charter due to our freshwater being pumped into the starboard engine bilge whose bilge pump was not working and consequently filled up with water , at one point we thought we were sinking ! We returned to base as we had no water and no way of keeping it in the tanks even if we could have refilled. In another incedent in a torrential downpour a fixed cabin window leaked and destroyed my laptop. The reply from DYC main office was less than helpful. The laptop destruction was our fault as we put it in the wrong place and the lost day was ignored. Be very carefull when dealing with the main office they seem only to want to dodge any issues which involve any sort of refund.

Fantastic Charter - Great Trogir Base Manager and Staff

We chartered a 45ft catamaran. Boat was in excellent shape and we had no issues. Well equipped with chart book, extra propane and all other amenities. Base staff was super friendly and helpful and always asked us if everything was ok or if we needed anything when we passed them on dock. Base manager Tommi was super friendly and engaging, ensuring all of our needs were met and also took the time to suggest ports as well as booking slips for us. What a fabulous country and superb charter!

Great charter with Dream Yacht in St John

Had a great bareboat charter sailing around St John out of St Thomas with Dream Yacht Charter in a brand new Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40. Thanks to Dawn Fingers and the rest of the team for helping to accommodate our last minute booking. Highlights were Zozo’s at Caneel Bay and Cruz Bay. We’ve booked bareboat charter with Dream Yacht a number of times in the past and have they seem to be the best outfit in terms of boat maintenance and professionalism.

Hello Colin, Thank you for your wonderful review. We're glad you had a great time with us in the USVI and we will pass your review to our team :) We look forward to seeing you again soon with pleasure. The Dream Yacht Charter team.

Love the staff and service

We most recently chartered our first Catamaran in Exumas Islands, Bahama and had a magnificent experience. That was our 4th charter with Dream Yacht Charter and are very happy with the overall service, boats and staff at the base. All the bases we have visited are very busy- but we always feel we get what we need and are attended to. Love that they have bases all around the world. Have 2 more bookings this year - La Paz tomorrow and Naples, Italy in July. Never think about looking for alternative companies

6 Tips For Choosing The Best Yacht Charter Experience

C hartering a yacht is the ultimate in custom vacationing, a travel trend that gained traction during COVID and shows no signs of stopping. It offers travelers an opportunity to reach their dream destinations in comfort, style, and exclusivity. The best part: Very often, this bespoke experience can be cheaper than a cruise on a higher-end line you’d have to share with a lot of strangers!

Here are six tips for choosing the best yacht charter experience to suit your style, tastes, and holiday goals!

1. Work Within Your Budget

For most travelers, money is indeed an object, or at least a big consideration. A great charter company has a fleet of vessels at its fingertips, from smaller options such as a catamaran or sailing yacht all the way up to a super yacht with ultra amenities. Their team will work with you to assess your travel budget and offer appropriate options. Keep in mind: There’s all sorts of costs — such as fuel, docking fees, and other extras — that factor into a vacation like this. Some companies roll most of those items into a blanket price, others will calculate them separately or in an overage fee called an “advance provisioning allowance.”

Quick Example: Last year, I sailed on the super yacht Ohana in Croatia. It was part of the Goolets charter group based in Slovenia, which charges a flat weekly accommodation cost; an advance provisioning fee is assessed for food, beverages, and any other extras. The lovely ship slept up to 30 guests quite comfortably and all-in at high season (with APF included) was about $143,000 a week. Steep? Sure, at first glance. But broken down per person, the cost comes out to about $4,300 for each friend or family member. That’s food, drinks, excursions, everything. So, it turns out this kind of travel can indeed be budget-friendly and a good charter will work with you to maximize your money.

2. Location, Location, Location

When considering a private yacht vacation, location is everything. The good news is that charter companies operate all over the world, from the aforementioned Croatia to Australia, the Caribbean, Indonesia, and everywhere there’s sea in between.

If you’ve got a dream destination on your bucket list, a private yacht vacation will help get you there. Choose a charter company that has deep bench strength in the region you want to visit. They’ll have a wide range of yachts and corresponding itineraries for you to consider, ensuring the perfect experience for you and your party. Whether you crave the party scene of Greece, Italy, or the Riviera, or prefer something more far-flung and secluded such as the Seychelles or Maldives, a yacht charter experience will have you covered.

3. Consider Your Entire Party’s Needs

Another big perk of a great charter company: They will handle all the onboard logistics during your cruise, considering your entire party’s interests, must-dos, mobility levels, and even special occasions in an easy, effortless manner. They will interview you ahead of time to assess your interests, then craft an itinerary that suits everyone from start to finish. Keep in mind, they know the local area, plus have access to the best guides and onshore experiences. They will pull out all the stops to make sure everyone in your group has a terrific time.

Culture vultures to party animals will have the perfect vacation planned for them by the yacht charter. From city walking tours led by historians to exclusive access to the best clubs and other hotspots, the charter company and your yacht’s onboard staff are there to make sure it’s all picture-perfect. And if you feel like scrapping your schedule for the day and choosing to stay on the water? That’s just fine, too. The crew will roll with your wishes and honor them.

4. Food And Beverages = Big Deals On Board

No question about it, fabulous food and hand-crafted beverages are central to a terrific private yacht experience. Again, this is where that thorough pre-interview really comes into play. A charter company will consider not just preferences, but any allergies, dietary considerations, or religious restrictions to make sure the chef is prepped accordingly. Expect special snacks and other surprise touches to shine through as well; during my charter, a special birthday cake was procured and presented to a young guest after dinner on his big day.

While the yacht’s team will make sure your food tastes just as spectacular as it looks, they’ll also likely lean into the regional culinary scene with locally sourced fruits, vegetables, meats, and of course, seafood! Keep in mind your yacht’s stewards are responsible for keeping bar service running smoothly; by the second day, they knew which mid-afternoon cocktail I fancied (Croatian sparkling wine) and which wines I preferred at dinner. My glass was never empty, until I signaled I was done for the evening.

Bottom Line: Your culinary service should be seamless and impeccable during your time on board.

5. Don’t Forget The Water Toys

Water toys are a big part of a private yacht experience — you’re on the water after all and want to make sure you can get out there and enjoy it. Look for a vessel that has a robust fleet of options that align with your party’s fitness level and recreation (or adrenaline!) goals. Kayaks, rafts, and jet skis are all fairly standard; some yachts also include seabobs, massive water slides, and even inflatable water playgrounds to ensure multi-gen fun on the water.

Pro Tip: Depending on the destination, divers will also want to inquire about scuba or snorkel equipment.

6. Find A “Your Wish Is Their Command” Crew

One of the best parts of a private yacht vacation is the bespoke service you’ll experience every step of the way; the goal is to make sure you want for nothing during your time on board. Craving a cucumber water while you’re lounging on deck? They’ll have it. Want to make sure there are snacks waiting for you after you return from kayaking? Of course! And want to take your dinner to another level? Crews take great pride in creating over-the-top table masterpieces and theme nights that will dazzle everyone in your party.

Of course, crews can and do accommodate more outrageous requests, but don’t be that Below Deck nightmare and ask them for something that’s illegal. It puts them in a terrible position where they could be held liable, and it’s just not cool.

Keep In Mind: A crew that provides excellent service deserves excellent recognition. Be kind and make sure you factor an appropriate tip into your budget. It’s very often not included in the price of the charter or advance provisioning fee.
