5 New Superyachts to Look Out for in 2022

new superyacht projects

With the high demand for luxury vessels leading to a record-breaking number of new superyachts under construction, 2022 is looking to be a year full of boat debuts. With many projects set to reach important milestones, we are expecting lots of news from all the major shipyards. Here are 5 of the most exciting superyachts to look out for in 2022.

Feadship 1010

new superyacht projects

At 118m long, project 1010 interestingly marks Feadship’s largest vessel to date. Since the project’s announcement, the renowned shipbuilder is working towards a 2022 delivery. October 2020 saw the vessel hit the water for the first time when it was first launched in the Netherlands, but 2022 is when completion and delivery are scheduled. Although very little is known about the details of the superyacht, we expect to hear more as we enter the new year.

Oceanco Y721

new superyachts

Set to become the third 100+m sailing yacht in 2022 is Oceanco’s Y721. She will take Black Pearl’s title of the second-longest sailing yacht in the global fleet. When delivered, there will only be three sailing yachts measuring over 100m, with the biggest being Nobiskrug’s 142m Sailing Yacht A. Reportedly commissioned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Y721 is the longest yacht ever built in the Netherlands. As well as this, it is also Oceanco’s largest-ever build.

Heesen Cosmos

Heesen Project Cosmos

After her Spring 2022 delivery, Heesen’s 80m superyacht Cosmos will be the biggest and fastest all-aluminium superyacht in the world. This is due to her maximum speed of 30 knots and 1,700GT. Cosmos features an exterior crafted by  Winch Design , which comprises clean lines, a sporty look and extensive use of glass, achieving a timeless profile. Expect to see her undertaking North Sea trials in early 2022 ahead of her delivery.

Lurssen Northern Star

new superyacht projects

Amongst the numerous projects under construction at Lurssen is Northern Star, a 107m explorer superyacht. Once delivered, she will be used to explore the farthest reaches of the globe. Northern Star (previously named Project Icecap) is a diesel-electric hybrid that accommodates up to 20 guests in 10 staterooms. She sports a rugged design by  Salt Ship Design and is due for delivery in 2022.

Amels Custom 78

new superyacht projects

With a gross tonnage of 2,850, once the Custom Amels 78m delivery is complete, she will be Amels’ largest vessel to date in terms of GT. The superyacht features exterior and interior design by Espen Øino and Zuretti Interior, respectively. Øino has stated it is “a unique project” which features a spacious, open-top deck, large aft pool, and wide side decks. She accommodates 14 guests in total whilst also housing 26 crew. The superyacht was recently spotted during her sea trials in September, ahead of her delivery in 2022.

Feadship’s New 285-Foot Hybrid Superyacht Will Have an Underwater Aqua Lounge

The dutch builder didn't provide visual details, but if the interior design matches the hype, project 710 could be a breakthrough.  , michael verdon, michael verdon's most recent stories.

Feadship's 285-foot Project 710 promises to be a breakthrough design in the sustainable-superyacht category.

Superyacht builder Feadship today provided a first-reveal of its new 275-foot, 6-inch Project 710, remaining tight-lipped on specifics, but providing enough details to telegraph that this could be a breakthrough design.

The builder has pledged a 2030 goal of building “zero-emissions” superyachts. Project 710 will run its diesel generators on HVO, a second-generation biodiesel that manufacturers describe as a net-zero CO2 fuel. The boat’s sea trials will be with HVO, and it will be delivered full with the biofuel to its owner. The company claims CO2 emissions will be reduced by about 90 percent.

Feadship's 285-foot Project 710 promises to be a breakthrough design in the sustainable-superyacht category.

Technically, the boat could also be a breakthrough with the Advanced Electric Drive (FAED) program Feadship designed for its diesel-electric hybrid power. The boat will have no drive shafts or rudders, and will have 4.5 times more electrical storage than Feadship’s first hybrid yacht, the 274-foot Savannah , launched in 2015. Instead, the steering will be done through a pair of electric Veth contra-rotating thrusters.

The Feadship team also developed technologies to capture waste heat from the generators to supply heat to the AC system, domestic water and other “hotel loads,” independent from the propulsion. The boat will also have a heat-pump system that draws heat directly from the water.

The few details Feadship gave about the interior and exterior design are tantalizing, especially if the final product holds up to the superlatives.

Feadship's 285-foot Project 710 promises to be a breakthrough design in the sustainable-superyacht category.

The interior has signature features like an asymmetrical atrium staircase leading to a lower-deck dining salon, which offers a big reveal of an open wall connecting to a terrace just above water level.  The stern has an “Aqua Lounge” with windows below the water, and up in the bow, a space usually devoted to mooring, the vessel is a bow observation lounge with double-glassed, floor-to-ceiling windows. The aft-deck terraces do not have pillars, an impressive structural feat, for clear views of the water, while the design team also engineered glass through the entire main deck to give a sense of being closer to the ocean.

Feadship says Project 710 has been launched from its Aalsmeer yard and will undergo final outfitting before sea trials.

Superyacht H3: Inside Oceanco’s impressive rebuild

By Nina Done   22 June 2023

Still officially known as Project H , Oceanco has released interior images of the 105m (345ft) superyacht H3 (formerly known as Neom & Indian Empress), after emerging from her shed earlier this year following a transformative refit that spanned over three years.

Showcasing a new sleek, contemporary profile, her hull has also been lengthened by 10 meters to accommodate a beach club , with an additional outdoor swimming pool adding to her allure.

Oceanco yacht H3

Her remodeled interiors, meanwhile, are courtesy of the industry-renowned studio Reymond Langton Design, harnessing a neutral scheme featuring an array of high quality finishes including light taupe oak, soft nubuck leathers and delicate marbles, with bronze and nickel detailing adding contrast.

To say that this has been a remarkable process is an understatement.

She’s also had an overhaul of her social spaces, including her main deck, which now plays host to a dual staircase wrapping around a waterfall feature, as well as video walls and welcome lobby & bar area.

Her owner’s deck has also received some major modifications, and now includes a private dining room for 14 as well as a convertible cinema set-up in her lounge. There is also a climate-controlled winter garden on this level, capable of hosting up to 32 guests, making this the ideal spot for corporate charters and shoreside events.

Main salon on board Oceanco yacht H3

In terms of accommodation, superyacht H3 offers a vast owner stateroom, alongside two extra guest cabins, ideal for those traveling with children of their security detail. She also has a bridge deck VIP cabin, with the reminder of her cabins located on her main deck.

This leaves her lower deck free to incorporate a vast wellness center, replete with a Hammam, sensory shower, hair salon and beauty treatment rooms, all adjoining a large beach club and swim platform.

new superyacht projects

In addition to her aesthetic features, the motor yacht also received upgrades to her technology systems and is fully compliant with IMO’s stringent Tier III safety standards. She's also been equipped with enhanced sustainability features in line with the yachting industry's much-vaunted ambitions, to ensure a more positive impact on the delicate marine environment and the planet as a whole.

Oceanco’s CEO Marcel Onkenhout commented at the time of her relaunch: “To say that this has been a remarkable process is an understatement. The project has called for passion, dedication, and extraordinary craftsmanship, with many involved in her creation now contributing to her recreation, including myself. We are proud to say that we are relaunching a completely new Oceanco.”

Oceanco yacht H3

After successfully completing her sea trials in May, testing her speed, maneuverability, equipment and safety features, she will undergo final touches before being delivered to her new owners.

New build yacht faq.

The yacht-building process is the ultimate journey for any prospective yacht Owner, allowing you to tailor every detail to your exacting requirements. New build yacht projects involve a considerable amount of creativity and freedom of expression, from pre-designed and semi-custom yachts to fully custom superyacht builds.

The yacht-building process requires a significant number of important decisions as an Owner, so having the support and expertise of an experienced yacht brokerage company is essential to ensure things run smoothly. At YACHTZOO, we coordinate your yacht build with key players across the industry to ensure we deliver the yacht of your dreams. Discover all you need to know about the yacht -building process to help you define your options.

What are the benefits of building your own yacht?

A custom yacht enables the Owner to build a vessel that precisely meets their needs. Whether you seek a cutting-edge sailing yacht designed for long-range cruising, an opulent superyacht designed for exploring luxury blue water havens or a state-of-the-art ocean explorer for navigating uncharted waters, a new build yacht can be made to match any lifestyle.

The main benefit of building your own yacht is the element of personalization it brings. When building a custom yacht, nothing is off-limits from the size, layout, amenities, interiors, and exterior design.

A custom yacht also allows for the option to choose a reduced carbon footprint by utilizing the latest eco-friendly technology, including state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion systems, wastewater recovery systems, and solar panels.

With the currently low inventory due to unprecedented yacht sales over the past two years, building your dream yacht may be the ideal option.

How long does it take to build a yacht?

The time of the yacht building process can vary considerably depending on the size, type, interiors, technical considerations, customization, and extra amenities you wish to have onboard, as well as the shipyard and their availability. On average, yacht construction can take anywhere from 18 months to 4 years. You can see below our estimations depending on the type of yacht you want to design.

What is a fully custom yacht?

A fully custom superyacht is the pinnacle of luxury yacht construction. Every aspect of aesthetic and technical design is bespoke and constructed to your specifications. A fully custom yacht build is an exciting yet complex undertaking, requiring 2.5 to 4 years to develop. The road from concept to the yacht-building process can be long and involves considerable research and planning.

Building a custom superyacht can be a superb experience when working alongside a reputable yacht brokerage like YACHTZOO. Our highly skilled agents can assist with all aspects of project management, from liaising with the shipyards, engineers, and interior designers, to the yacht’s classification and flag.

What is a semi-custom yacht?

A semi-custom yacht allows for the best of both worlds when it comes to the yacht-building process, offering faster lead times and reduced costs, as well as larger flexibility to personalize the vessel to your exact tastes and lifestyle.

Built on a proven platform – and sometimes on spec – this option reduces delivery time by around a third or more, taking 2 to 3 years to complete on average. While you may not have control over the pre-engineering and technical specifications, a varying degree of customization is still available throughout the interior design and options list of the semi-custom models to ensure the creation of a yacht bespoke to you.

What is a production yacht?

A production yacht is a tried and trusted way to keep costs and delivery time considerably lower than custom construction projects. While production yachts offer the least amount of creative freedom in terms of design, layout, and interior, many production yachts boast flexible layouts and interior design options, allowing for your own personal touch in a fraction of the usual yacht build time. The typical building process for a production yacht should take 1.5 to 2 years.

Whether you are looking to purchase a fully-custom, semi-custom, or production yacht, YACHTZOO’s experienced team takes the time to understand exactly your requirements, expectations, and parameters.

Why choose us?

In the realm of yacht construction, the use of advanced materials and the application of extensive knowledge have become paramount in crafting the largest yachts. The design team at YACHTZOO is adept at leveraging these advancements to enhance performance, durability, and aesthetics. Lateral presents new 140-metre multihull project

The progressive naval architecture firm has introduced a new highly efficient and hydrodynamic 140m trimaran yacht concept with t. fotiadis design….

new superyacht projects

Lateral Naval Architects and T. Fotiadis Design have unveiled a new multihull project, Spear. The 140-metre trimaran project aims to combine comfort, expansive open spaces and enhanced hydrodynamic efficiency.

Multihulls appear to be gaining more traction, however, uptake has been relatively slow in the larger segments, making this development more significant. The adoption of multihull construction methods to increase useable space and stability on board, and boost fuel efficiency while reducing operational costs, are innovations to aspire to should the fleet wish to continue its evolution.

Their design enhances dynamic efficiency in the water, meaning they require less engine power and fuel to achieve the same speed or range compared to traditional single-hull vessels. They are also typically constructed from lighter materials such as aluminium, which reduces submerged weight and minimises wetted surface area, further reducing hydrodynamic drag and fuel consumption.

new superyacht projects

To compare the likes of Spear , with its length of 140 metres and 4650 GT, and a beam overall of 23m to a suitable baseline, Lateral uses the example of a 110-metre monohull of 4400 GT. At a cruise speed of 18 knots, the trimaran's propulsion power needs are 20% lower than the 110m monohull, making Spear’s power demand equivalent to that of an 80m monohull, with twice the usable area.

By leveraging the larger dimensions, Spear  features a medium-speed engine at the core of the energy architecture, often found in large commercial vessels. This gives the trimaran a further 15% fuel saving per kW compared to a typical yacht’s high-speed engine.

Sized for an efficient top speed of 21 knots, Spear’s engines then have excess capacity at reduced speeds. Integrating an electrical power (PTO) to the main propulsion shaft (PTI) capable gearbox means the excess capacity can be harnessed to power all the domestic loads of the yacht when cruising.

Coupled with an electrical DC Grid for load balancing, this creates an efficient, flexible fuel system architecture. With its reduced fuel demands and large available tank volumes, this concept can achieve a range exceeding 7500 nautical miles, making the vessel capable of exploring all corners of the globe.

new superyacht projects

By design, the relatively small sponsons contribute to a platform that needs little support from active stabilisation. Although they are not available for internal space, they do provide valuable tank volumes. This helps to facilitate the inclusion of future fuels, particularly methanol, which combined with the medium-speed engine already incorporated, will be the first viable future fuel solution to reach the market.

The stabilised monohull concept introduces more advantages by also offering a spacious platform, with a 40% increase in the highly sought-after external space whilst keeping the internal luxury area similar to a 110m monohull.

The potential of multihull vessels in the superyacht segment is a core focus of a feature article in the upcoming New Build Report, featuring insights from Echo Yachts and SHADOWCAT, dissecting why uptake has been relatively slow, and why the industry could see a paradigm shift towards multihulls over the next decade.

Mark Zuckerberg reportedly rewarded himself with a luxurious gift: a $300 million super yacht.

The billionaire Meta Platforms CEO reportedly purchased the 287-foot vessel with the name Launchpad, according to The Sun and New York Post.

FOX Business reached out to Meta Platforms and a Zuckerberg personal spokesperson for comment on the vessel.

The vessel reached America a few days ago, cruising into Fort Lauderdale’s port in the Sunshine State, according to Business Insider. Prior to that, it had recently completed its first-ever official sailing.

new superyacht projects

Given that Mark Zuckerberg enjoys a respectable 16th place on a list of the world’s richest people, he probably figured it was time for him to acquire one of the ultimate status symbols for the mega-wealthy — a super yacht.

A new report from The Sun said that Zuckerberg is now the proud owner of a $300 million vessel that he has christened “Launchpad.” The 387-foot-long vessel, which comes with a helipad and a $30 million companion boat, was seen docked this week at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with its unique chrome finish reflecting in the sun.

This purchase shows, among other things, that the Facebook and Meta founder and CEO has branched out from buying islands and building an underground complex to help him survive the apocalypse. Perhaps, he wants to cruise the Mediterranean this summer and be among the moguls who can play host to Leonardo DiCaprio.

The yacht definitely grants him admission to the watery playgrounds of such multibillionaires as Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates and any of the Russian oligarchs who haven’t been the target of sanctions imposed by the United States or its allies over Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

In fact, Zuckerberg reportedly came by Launchpad due to the misfortunes of one of those oligarchs. The yacht originally was commissioned to be built by Vladimir Potanin, one of Russia’s richest men who is on multiple sanctions list, according to a report by Autoevolution.com , a transportation industry site. The yacht was known as Project 1010, and the shipbuilder in the Netherlands was legally barred from delivering it to Potanin when it was completed in 2022, though Autoevolution also said that Potanin was not the yacht’s actual owner.

The Sun reported that the yacht recently received “special permission” to be imported. It has since arrived in the United States, a couple months ahead of Zuckerberg’s 40th birthday on May 14 — which raises the question of whether he meant Launchpad as a birthday gift to himself.

It’s quite a gift: Launchpad can comfortably fit 24 guests aboard. It also requires a crew of 48 and is said to cost $30 million a year for upkeep and usage, according to Superyachtfan.com . But shelling out $30 million for maintenance a year shouldn’t be a problem for Zuckerberg, who reportedly earns between $6 million and $12 million a day, The Sun said.

But as spectacular as Launchpad sounds, super yacht fans might say it’s not as spectacular as Jeff Bezos’s super yacht, Koru. The $500 million sailing vessel features very tall masts, a swimming pool, a helipad and room for a second, smaller yacht. The most noteworthy thing about Koru is that Bezos commissioned a special sculpture to decorate its prow. It’s a “curvaceous winged goddess” that is said to bear a striking resemblance to his fiancee Lauren Sanchez.

The Amazon founder, his wife-to-be and the goddess figurehead spent much of last summer sailing around the Mediterranean, cruising from Spain to Croatia and hosting such famous guests as Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and Usher. The couple also threw a lavish engagement party off the coast of Positano on Italy’s Amalfi coast, attended by another pack of famous friends, including Kris Jenner, Wendi Murdoch and, yes, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly gifted himself a $300 million megayacht, dubbed “Launchpad,” ahead of his 40th birthday.

The staggering 387-foot-long vessel was seen floating at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after arriving at its berth earlier this week, The Sun reported Thursday.

The multi-layered luxury ship’s sleek exterior was designed by Espen Øino International and boasts a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure, according to SuperYacht Times.

Reportedly ranking as the 45th largest yacht in the world, the interiors are just as aesthetically pleasing and reportedly executed by Zuretti Interior Design company, a France-based company specializing in unique and custom yacht design.

The breathtakingly beautiful floater stands out with a navy blue theme matching an American flag perched proudly on its wood-paneled stern.

Boatworld insiders have been buzzing with speculation that Zuckerberg is the owner of the newly minted mega-cruise ever since it made its main voyage from the Netherlands last week.

The tech titan was spotted touring the Russian-commissioned megayacht in early March, though the impressive boat didn’t arrive stateside until this week due to sanctions, according to The Sun.

The website reported that Zuckerberg purchased the pricey yacht – along with its own $30 million partner boat — most likely as an early 40th birthday present to himself.

Mark Zuckerberg on a paddle board.

The boat reportedly traveled to Florida after being granted special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg’s birthday on May 14.

Zuckerberg’s yacht is just 30 feet shorter than the length of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot megayacht Koru, which the Amazon boss snagged for a whopping $500 million.

Zuckerberg’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The Newark Airport Railroad Station, near Frelinghuysen Avenue and Haynes Avenue, opened in 2001, but it was designed to be accessible only to those riding NJ Transit and Amtrak, and it cut off accessibility to neighborhoods and communities on the other side of the station.

Story continues below photo gallery .

This $160 million project will build a pedestrian bridge to the station and construct a plaza accessible to pedestrians, cyclists and those being dropped off by car or bus. The construction contract is expected to be awarded in 2025, with construction starting and ending in 2026.

"I talked to a few people and they’re like, 'Wow, if I could just drop people off at the AirTrain'" it would be a huge improvement instead of driving through traffic to get to the airport terminals, said Christian Bollwage, the mayor of Elizabeth and a Port Authority board commissioner.

Newark's outdated AirTrain is also going to be replaced by the Port Authority, with construction starting in 2025 and service starting in 2029.

In addition to access to the airport, the pedestrian bridge project will give residents public transportation access, via NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor train line.

Airport: Flying in or out of Newark? Your air traffic controllers will soon be in Philadelphia

"We’re really excited to see this project advance, because the Regional Plan Association has been advocating to expand transit access in this region of Newark for almost two decades, if not longer," said Zoe Baldwin, the New Jersey director for the association, a nonprofit research and advocacy group.

"It's actually a good example of a difference between transportation and mobility, because this part of Newark is so different from the rest of the city because it has almost no transit service, very low car ownership rates and is literally surrounded by transportation assets — they’re just not accessible to people who don’t own cars," Baldwin said.

Cutting time to the airport, from an hour to minutes

Bus trips to Newark Liberty from these neighborhoods can take about an hour. That will be dramatically decreased to around seven minutes once this project is completed.

However, a PATH train extension to the Newark Airport Railroad Station, which has been contemplated in years past, does not appear to be moving forward, though a right of way is being preserved in case it does get built.

A PATH extension would give Elizabeth and Newark residents a public transportation option to Hudson County and a far cheaper alternative into New York City. A one-way PATH fare is $2.75, and a one-way NJ Transit train ticket from the airport station into New York Penn Station is $16, of which $8.50 is the Port Authority's AirTrain fare.

FACT SHEET: President   Biden Announces Up To $8.5 Billion Preliminary Agreement with Intel under the CHIPS & Science   Act

Funding catalyzes $100 billion in private investment from Intel to build and expand semiconductor facilities in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, and Oregon and create nearly 30,000 jobs

Today, President Biden will travel to Chandler, Arizona, to visit Intel’s Ocotillo campus and announce that the Department of Commerce has reached a preliminary agreement with Intel to provide up to $8.5 billion in direct funding along with $11 billion in loans under the CHIPS and Science Act. The announcement will support the construction and expansion of Intel facilities in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, and Oregon, creating nearly 30,000 jobs and supporting tens of thousands of indirect jobs. During his visit to Arizona, President Biden will discuss the vision that he laid out in his State of the Union, underscoring how his Investing in America agenda is building an economy from the middle out and bottom up, creating good-paying jobs right here in America, strengthening U.S. supply chains, and protecting national security. Semiconductors were invented in America and power everything from cell phones to electric vehicles, refrigerators, satellites, defense systems, and more. But today, the United States produces less than 10 percent of the world’s chips and none of the most advanced ones. Thanks to President Biden’s CHIPS and Science Act, that is changing. Companies have announced over $240 billion in investments to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the United States since the President took office. Semiconductor jobs are making a comeback. And thanks to CHIPS investments like the one today, America will produce roughly 20% of the world’s leading-edge chips by the end of the decade. Today’s announcement is critical to realizing President Biden’s vision to reestablish America’s leadership in chip manufacturing. In particular, this CHIPS investment will support Intel’s construction and expansion projects across four states and will create nearly 30,000 jobs:

  • Chandler, Arizona:  Funding will help construct two leading-edge logic fabs and modernize one existing fab, significantly increasing manufacturing capacity to produce Intel’s most advanced semiconductors in the United States. This investment will create over 3,000 manufacturing jobs, 7,000 construction jobs, and thousands of indirect jobs. Intel’s investment in Arizona is among the largest private sector investments in the state’s history.
  • New Albany, Ohio:  Funding will establish a new regional economic cluster for U.S. chipmaking with the construction of two leading-edge logic fabs. This investment will create 3,000 manufacturing jobs, 7,000 construction jobs, and an estimated 10,000 indirect jobs. Intel’s investment in Ohio is the largest private-sector investment in the state’s history.
  • Rio Rancho, New Mexico:  Funding will support the nearly complete modernization and transformation of two fabs into advanced packaging facilities, where chips are assembled together to boost their performance and reduce costs. Advanced packaging is critical for artificial intelligence (AI) applications and the next generation of semiconductor technology. It also allows manufacturers to improve performance and function and shorten the time it takes to get many advanced chips to market.  When completed, these facilities will be the largest for advanced packaging in the United States. This investment will create 700 manufacturing jobs and 1,000 construction jobs.
  • Hillsboro, Oregon:  Funding will expand and modernize facilities to increase clean-room capacity and utilize advanced lithography equipment, further strengthening this critical innovation hub of leading-edge development and production in the United States. This investment will support several thousand new permanent and construction jobs and thousands of indirect jobs.

Creating Good-Paying and Union Jobs with Good Benefits Across America

President Biden promised to be the most pro-worker, pro-union President in American history, and his Administration has committed to ensuring that workers have the free and fair choice to join a union and equitable training pathways to good jobs. As part of the Administration’s effort to connect workers with good-paying jobs created by the President’s Investing in America agenda, the White House announced five initial Workforce Hubs across the country – two of which have focused on building pipelines to good jobs in the semiconductor industry: Phoenix, Arizona, and Columbus, Ohio. And, last year, the National Science Foundation and Intel announced $100 million to expand semiconductor workforce training opportunities, education, and research across the nation. Under their preliminary agreement with the Department of Commerce, Intel has committed to work closely with workforce training providers (e.g., educational institutions, state and local agencies, labor unions) to develop and train workers for jobs created by the investment announced today. The Ohio State Building Trades signed a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) for the Ohio construction site, and there is a majority-union construction crew in both the Arizona and Oregon sites. The Administration strongly supports workers’ right to organize and expects Intel to continue its longstanding tradition of creating good jobs and respecting workers’ rights, including expecting Intel to neither hold mandatory captive audience meetings nor hire anti-union consultants. The announcement today also includes significant funding to train and develop the local workforce, including $50 million in dedicated CHIPS funding. The focus of this funding will be further determined in the coming months based on the Department of  Commerce’s labor and workforce priorities  in partnership with the Department of Labor. Those priorities include funding workforce intermediaries and labor-management partnerships, promoting inclusive and equitable training and hiring across the construction and facilities workforces, and providing supportive services, such as child care. Intel’s construction spending is contributing to union apprentice programs across all four sites—expected to amount to over $150 million in apprenticeship contributions. Additionally, Intel has committed to providing affordable, accessible, high-quality child care for its workers across its facilities. Intel will be increasing the reimbursement amount and duration for its back-up care program, adding additional access to discounted primary child care providers, and expanding access to a vetted network of child care providers for its employees. In addition, Intel will pilot a primary child care reimbursement program for non-salary employees.

Strengthening Local Economies

Today’s announcement is also poised to strengthen the local economies of these states and cities, and is part of the President’s commitment to investing in all of America and leaving no community behind. Intel’s investments in Arizona and Ohio are among the largest private-sector investments in each state’s history, and Arizona has received the highest level of private sector manufacturing investment per capita of any state since the President took office. Intel’s investment in Arizona is expected to create tens of thousands of indirect jobs across suppliers and supporting industries – on top of the nearly 30,000 manufacturing and construction jobs it will create, fostering a more resilient semiconductor supply chain in the U.S. In Arizona, Intel’s investments have  grown  the surrounding community, attracting opportunities for professional growth and upward economic mobility for everyone – from graphic designers to restaurants and small businesses. And in Ohio, Intel continues expanding their partnerships with local businesses to support their construction projects and operations at other facilities – growing from 150 Ohio-based suppliers in 2022 to over 350 today.  Intel has also prioritized sustainability and being responsible stewards of the environment at its facilities. It currently uses 100% renewable electricity in its fabs and factories in the United States, and plans to achieve net-positive water and zero waste to landfill by 2030.

Building on Historic Progress Under the CHIPS and Science Act

Today’s announcement is the fourth and largest preliminary memorandum of terms (PMT) under the CHIPS and Science Act:

  • In February 2024, the Biden-Harris Administration announced $1.5 billion for GlobalFoundries to support the development and expansion of facilities in Malta, NY, and Burlington, VT.
  • In January 2024, the Administration announced $162 million for Microchip Technology Inc. to increase its production of microcontroller units and other specialty semiconductors, and to support the modernization and expansion of fabrication facilities in Colorado Springs, CO, and Gresham, OR.
  • In December 2023, the Administration announced $35 million for BAE Systems Electronic Systems to support the modernization of the company’s Microelectronics Center in Nashua, NH. This facility will produce chips that are essential to our national security, including for use in F-35 fighter jets.

President Biden’s Investing in America agenda – including the CHIPS and Science Act – is spurring a manufacturing and clean energy boom. Since President Biden took office, companies have announced over $675 billion in private sector investments in manufacturing and clean energy, and over 50,000 infrastructure and clean energy projects are underway. This announcement is part of the President’s broader commitment to build an economy from the middle out and bottom up, not the top down, and invest in all of America.

Superyacht design trends to look out for in 2022

There’s a new wave of design trends shaping the fleet this year. Ahead of the Superyacht Design Festival, BOAT rounds up some of the stand-out features to look out for in 2022.

The future of yacht design will be a hot topic at the upcoming Superyacht Design Festival, with leading designers taking to the stage to discuss everything from flying yachts to immersive artwork. In order to predict some of the trends we might expect to see in 2022, BOAT takes a moment to reflect on the hottest design elements of the past year .

New pool settings

Exterior decks will always be prime real estate for superyacht pools. Whether they’re within toe-dipping distance of a sunpad spread or stretching out invitingly as you step onto the main deck, a swimming pool in a sun-soaked spot is hard to beat.

But recently we’ve seen designers look for more inventive ways to give their clients poolfront fun in a different setting. The beach club seems to be the spot of choice.

The 73 metre Yalla was one of the yachts to start this trend, with a roomy rectangle of swimming pool only visible when her transom is opened up. Delivered in 2014 by Italian yard CRN , the yacht’s Droulers -designed interior was miles ahead of the game.

Fast forward to the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show, where we saw two yachts sporting a similar beach club arrangement. These were 80 metre Bilgin flagship Tatiana and AK Yachts ’ pride and joy, the 85 metre Victorious .

Both of these yachts buck the trend for pools being the stand-alone showpiece on board, and instead integrate the swimming pool as part of a social hub. Victorious ’ pool is flanked by a sofa and a drop-down TV screen, while Tatiana's is bordered by a glass bar and unfolding swim platforms that practically invite a party.

These two yachts feature design from Jonny Horsfield at H2 . “It’s a reaction to the fact that a lot of these clients are really focusing on their lifestyles now,” says Horsfield. “The layouts of yachts aren’t as predictable as they used to be, because people are being more specific about they how use their yachts."

“The danger with beach clubs is that they become a bit of a dead space. I think people like the idea of swimming inside,” adds Horsfield. “Obviously you can get a deeper pool, and it’s also more private.”

The trend continues in Benetti’s 108 metre Luminosity , where the pool takes centre stage in the 250 square metre beach club. Zaniz Studio created the yacht’s light-filled interior, and the interior pool is a key focal point on board.

If the popularity of interior pools over the past year is anything to go by, we can expect to see more pools cropping up in unexpected onboard places.

Curve appeal

Curving shapes and soft lines are invariably on-trend in both interior and exterior design, but 2021 saw certain designers take things up a notch. We can expect to see those themes continue into 2022. “I do see that clients tend to prefer lines that are closer to nature,” comments Karel Nguyen, yacht designer at Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture .

One of Azure’s latest project is the 75 metre Admiral flagship Kensho . The yacht is a wealth of gently curving lines and shapes, with the most notable example being her elegant deck arrangement, which is best observed from above. “The idea is that in the lines, you see the layers of the earth,” explains Nguyen. “It looks like it’s really shaped by the forces of nature.”

Meanwhile, Benetti’s 36.8 metre Koju features curves on the interior. The yacht was delivered in 2021 as the first unit of the Italian yard’s Motopanfilo series and was immediately acclaimed for her retro, yet fresh-feeling design. By using curving beams on the overheads, Italian studio Lazzarini Pickering Architetti has added depth and dimension to the space.

New ways to dip

The foredeck is a superb place to position a dip pool, particularly on smaller models if the aft deck is reserved for dining. Models like the 26 metre Sirena 88, the brand new 26 metre Azimut Grande 26 Metri, or the larger, but sportier 43 metre Overmarine Mangusta Oceano 43 all take advantage of their foredecks for the use of petite pools. The 50 metre K2 , the latest Sport 50 MT from Columbus , also makes use of the foredeck for a dip pool. The key benefit is uninterrupted vistas, but this position also holds appeal for owners in search of increased privacy and smoother access from their cabin.

Recently we’ve seen a few larger superyachts have been getting in on the trend, too. The new Cloud 9 , a 61 metre Sanlorenzo delivered in 2021, volunteers a generous dip pool in a prime spot on the foredeck.

Feadship ’s 94 metre Viva , delivered in 2021, has a similar arrangement. Azure is also responsible for Viva’s design. “I think a large number of people have been inspired by this feature,” says Nguyen. “But it’s very personal as well. You have to think about how you’re going to use your foredeck. We have a client right now who likes sunset sailing, so they want to sit on the foredeck and make use of it. I think it’s a really cool place to have a Jacuzzi.”

Sterns worth shouting about

Yacht layouts are constantly evolving in line with market demands. In 2022 we might expect to see more of a focus on the stern area, following clients’ desires to reconnect with nature and spend more time closer to the water. Sanlorenzo’s 34 metre SX112 , first unveiled in 2020, is a prime example of a reimagined stern that prioritises waterfront living over an enclosed beach club or tender garage.

Benetti’s Oasis deck, a feature that was first unveiled on the 40 metre Oasis 40M , takes the trend a step further. Conceived by exterior designers RWD and interior designers bonetti/kozerski architecture , this wide-open deck space features unfolding bulwarks, sofa seating and a low-slung rectangular dip pool.

In 2020, Admiral’s 55 metre metre Geco took to the seas sporting another take on a stern ‘lounge.’ The design evolved from a simple set of steps and a swim platform into a spacious protected seating area complete with bulwarks, submersible stairs and a teak deck that wraps over the edge of the platform to meet the sea.

Retro returns

On shore, a vintage revival means bold colours, loud patterns and all-out maximalism. At sea, the trend manifests itself more subtly, but the retro revival is still there in the lines of certain boats.

The most obvious example is the 37 metre Motopanfilo, which is one of Benetti’s newest and oldest series. It takes its design cues from the yard’s classic Italian motor yachts of the 1960s. The style was historically such a hit that Benetti decided to breathe fresh back into it, and the new series was born at the tail end of 2020. A few key changes were made to appeal to the tastes of the contemporary yacht owner, but she retains the overarching essence of a vintage boat.

The Moonen 110 is another model which leans into the retro aesthetic. Described as a “gentleman’s yacht,” the 34 metre yacht boasts a low profile, geometric shapes, and foredeck steps that all carry echoes of classic models like the Moonen 84 and 97.

“Classic design might be on its way back to some extent, but not as we know it. I think lines are becoming ‘cleaner’ with less ‘multi angle’ windows,” says Rene van der Velden, the designer behind the Moonen 110. “The new 110 became a mix of the old and the new, with classic overall proportions and modern detailing.”

Clear vision

Glass was, and continues to be, one of the biggest design trends in yachting right now. We’ve seen it wrapped around Oceanco’s 90 metre Dar , stretched up high in the atrium of 80 metre Excellence and used to make geometric cut-out shapes on 80 metre Artefact .

As glass technology continues to evolve, so too do the various applications that designers can play with. One trend we might expect to see more of could be long lines of glazing with an absence of mullions. This design creates a sleek, almost futuristic profile from the outside and offers unparalleled views from the interior that let the yacht’s surroundings remain front and centre. “It’s all about the experience from the inside out,” confirms Nguyen. “What do you see when you’re on board, the overall view.”

Feadship’s 77 metre Pi , which debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2019, is penned by Jarkko Jamsen of Aivan . Glass is so instrumental to the design of the yacht that it plays a structural role as well as an aesthetic one, with glass making up around 97 per cent of the material in the superstructure on the owner’s cabin.

A similar design can be seen on Moon Sand . A more recent delivery from the drawing boards of Bannenberg & Rowell , Moon Sand features a long, linear profile with long lines of black glazing defining her silhouette.

All of these trends and more will be discussed during the upcoming Superyacht Design Festival, which will take place from June 22-24, 2022 in Milan, Italy.
