The Poquoson Yacht Club house is available for rental for a wide range of activities:

• Civic and charity events

Rentals are available Saturday through Thursday when not reserved for PYC activities. The club house is always reserved on Fridays for PYC Friday dinners.  Please check our Calendar of Events and Rentals to see if the date you want is available.

We can seat about 112 people.  The maximum building occupancy is 217 people.

A small wedding was held at the Club on May 30, 2020 during the Chinese pandemic.

The gazebo is perfect for outside barbecues--

  and who doesn't enjoy a walk over the water on our dock.  Some folks even come by boat! p007

The Kennedy's | Married | Poquoson Yacht Club

Where do I begin? Last year, Elizabeth contacted me about being her wedding photographer for her and Eric's wedding. Elizabeth and I had an instant connection and I knew that I wanted to do their wedding. We met on multiple occasions and we chatted almost daily about all the plans. I like to get to know my brides before their wedding but the two of us are definitely on good friends level. It makes the wedding day so special. I know what she is looking for in her portraits and her style.

A week before their wedding, she texted me nervous about the forecast. It showed showers for the entire wedding day. I told her not to worry this far ahead. As the week went by though, the forecast was not changing. Elizabeth went ahead a purchased a ton of clear umbrellas for the wedding party. The day finally came and it called for afternoon showers. Elizabeth was almost done getting ready when I arrived which helped speed up the timeline somewhat.

We all arrived at the beautiful Poquoson Yacht Club that sits on the water. They elected to do a first look and oh I'm I so happy they did. He was so excited to see his gorgeous bride, but soon after, we heard the thunderstorms rolling in. Luckily, we were able to get most of the portraits in. One hour prior to the ceremony, the rain began. we were all eyeballing the radar like something fierce. Eric was determined to give his bride what she wanted and decided that rain or shine, the wedding would be outside. I find that so romantic. The ceremony was moved up by ten minutes. During the ceremony, it was quite windy but not one drop of rain!

As the bride was riding in her dad's convertible to the ceremony, we all witnessed the most beautiful thing: the groom, the best man and the groomsmen were all crying. How sweet!!! It just shows you how much they all love each other. During the entire 25 minute ceremony, Eric and Elizabeth didn't take their eyes off one another. After all the 'I do's" were said, they cheered walking back done the aisle and ended in a long, sweet kiss.

As the night went on, the DJ had everyone on the the dance floor, when the sun finally set and it started to rain, we snuck out the newlyweds for some night shots in the rain!!! These are by far my favorite wedding portraits to date!

Welcome to Poquoson Yacht Club!

   About our Club:

The Poquoson Yacht Club is a club of boating enthusiasts and good friends on the Virginia Peninsula. Our club building and pier are located at the end of Messick Road in Poquoson, Virginia, on the Back River opposite Langley Air Force Base (home of Air Combat Command), NASA Langley Research Center, and Hampton, Virginia.

The original club building was severely damaged by Hurricane Isabel. It was demolished and a new building was constructed on the same site.  The Club House is located just to the left of the photograph above--looking east from our parking lot--toward the confluence of Back River and the Chesapeake Bay.

 Our activities are mostly social, at our club on Messick Road. Boating activities begin in the Spring and last until our popular Lighted Boat Parade and Santa's arrival on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Many of our members own boats and participate in summer group trips around the Chesapeake Bay and occasionally the waters of North Carolina.

PYC welcomes new members. For information on becoming a member of the Poquoson Yacht Club, you can call the Membership Chairperson, Carol Wood, at 757-776-1963. Our initiation fee of $500.00  and reasonable annual dues make this club affordable to all (see current dues in application).

We have a regular Friday night snack bar and Happy Hour, where members enjoy pool , darts, TV, and just conversation, along with a home-cooked supper.

Four times during the year the club conducts a Membership Meeting which includes a pot luck dinner or pizza. These meetings are used to keep the membership informed about what is happening in the club and upcoming events.

Events during the year usually include steak night cookouts, wine & cheese parties, golf and pool tournaments, Chili Cook-Off,  Sea Feast, and various other parties and dinner dances, Christmas Boat Lighting, and Christmas Dinner Dance.

Ryanne + Rob | Poquoson Jewel-Toned Hurricane Wedding

I can’t tell you how much I love this couple!  Ryanne + Rob are sweet and kind, and love each other fiercely.  They have this fun spirit about them and you can’t help but smile when you’re near them.  So when Hurricane Matthew tried his best to thwart their wedding day, I was seriously bummed!  They tied the knot at Trinity United Methodist Church in Poquoson, with plans for their reception to be at Poquoson Yacht Club.  But with the impending hurricane and Poquoson being prime flooding territory they had no choice but to move the ceremony up a few hours and move the reception to higher ground.  I was crushed for them, but knew it was the right choice.

Despite the crazy weather (and it was crazy! ), the atmosphere was fun and light.  Ryanne laughed with her daughters and family while getting ready, totally calm and relaxed.  After the ceremony we found a great little covered entryway for photos!  We had to keep moving around a bit because… the rain was pouring in!  But again, Ryanne + Rob were fine with everything and it didn’t bother them one bit.   I love that!  Their three daughters were the same way- even their infant was calm and happy the whole day.  I think it really shows their future together and it warms my heart.

The bride and groom, Kasey and Brian, had a vision for their big day: classic elegance with a touch of opulence. And what better way to achieve this than through a classic white and gold color palette with hints of green?

As the flight continued, Kasey, ended up falling asleep on Brian's shoulder. In that quiet moment, as the airplane soared through the skies, destiny worked its magic. When they disembarked, Brian and Kasey exchanged numbers, and from there, their love story began to unfold. The rest, as they say, is history. Here we are today, celebrating their wedding!

The couple exchanged vows on the lawn overlooking the tranquil waters. An elegant floral arch framed them as they pledged their love to each other. The sparkling Puget Sound served as the most enchanting backdrop, reflecting the pure, unending love that Kasey and Brian shared.

As the sun began to set, the celebration moved indoors to a ballroom adorned with white and gold decor. The tables were dressed in crisp white linens with gold accents, creating a regal atmosphere. Each place setting featured gold-rimmed china and crystal glassware, a testament to the attention to detail that went into every aspect of the wedding.
