The Seattle Yacht Club's Port Madison facility consisted of a clubhouse with a fireplace, piano, television, wi-fi, and complete kitchen. The clubhouse also contained bathrooms and showers. The grounds included spaces for grilling, volleyball, horseshoes and a children's play area.

The clubhouse of the Port Madison Outstation was a cross-gabled with an octagonal tower and a covered terrace whose roof was supported by paired columns. It was painted white c. 2013.

Reciprocity - Visiting PMYC

Reciprocity is first-come-first-serve - do not call for reservations or checking in - sign in at the club house

Port Madison Yacht Club is located in beautiful Hidden Cove at the north end of Bainbridge Island, Washington.  We're easily located: go west of the Seattle Yacht Club outstation and look for the large docks with only sailboats!  This is a very quiet bay for most of the year.  There are no stores near by. There's a phone in the clubhouse to call for a taxi if needed.  Dogs and children are welcome.  Garbage is located at the top of the path to the parking lot.

We have approximately 70′ of reciprocal dock space on the South side of the main dock.  It's available on a first-come-first-serve basis (there's no one to call for reservations and no one to contact for checking in).  Please fly your club's burgee while at the docks so we'll know where you're from.  Access to the dock is from the west end.  Shore-tie will be to port if your bow is pointing east.  Please watch your depth here at low tides:  it is a muddy bottom, but you don’t want to get stuck.   Depth at the dock is approximately 8′ at a 0 tide.  There's a "hump" in the bottom about 25' south of the west corner of the dock, so don’t swing too wide around that corner at a low tide.  Rafting is fine, depth permitting, but please do not block the permanently moored boats to your east.

Power and water are available at the dock, but power is limited to 15 amps.  There is no charge for either.  The clubhouse is located shore-side and includes deck and picnic benches, a full galley and fridge, two bathrooms (no showers), and a wood-burning stove for heat.  It's is truly a cabin at the beach.  If you wish to use our clubhouse, please check our calendar of events to avoid conflicts with PMYC functions and contact our Reciprocal Chair at [email protected] .

This section of shoreline is a quiet harbor with a high concentration of docks, buoys and the boats that come with that lifestyle.

THE SETTING AND LIFESTYLE

In 1854, Port Madison became home to a lumber mill on the east side of the bay which boomed into a prospering town before eventually shutting down in 1892 after almost four decades of production. In 1906, wealthy Seattleites established a colony of summer residences here, some of which have upheld the test of time.

Today, those seeking a home in the safety of a harbor to enjoy the boating lifestyle may find Port Madison on Bainbridge Island to be just the place to drop anchor. This inlet is surrounded by hundred-year-old trees, which keeps its mariners protected from the weather no matter the time of year.

Being on the north end of Bainbridge Island at the end of back roads, this area is insulated from through traffic, and it's likely who you pass on the street is a neighbor. As sleepy as this community is, it's also very tight-knit, and it's not uncommon for people to have lived here for decades or in homes passed down for generations.

Depending on the site, a home on Port Madison could face north, south, east or west. It could have a view of the Olympic Mountains, the Cascade Mountains, or just the territorial trees and homes on the other side of the water. The view may be tight to the land on the other side, or it may be wide open looking out onto the horizon for that "great plains" type of experience. The most dramatic part of the view in this location is undoubtedly the water and no matter the perspective, just about every home has a view of boats, leaving a never-ending scene to occupy your gaze.

As far as recreation goes, this is a common place for stand up paddle boarding and sea kayaking, in addition to boating. The Port Madison Yacht Club offers several divisions of regular racing events for sailboats, from dinghies to (3 divisions of) bigger boats. The club also organizes cruising events and hosts an active sailing school. In the summer, the public dock at Hidden Cove Park is the epicenter to kids plunging in Puget Sound’s waters or casting a line for trout or salmon.

There's even a home accessible only by a footbridge, on Treasure Island. The Seattle Yacht Club has an outstation here, which can draw a fleet of vessels for summer cruises. As far as wildlife goes - this stretch of shoreline is an estuary from which to observe dozens of species of animals.

The east side of this bay is home to the Port Madison Water Company (shared ownership interest by residents) which owns a pier and dock on about 1000' feet of shoreline with a large waterfront park.

BEACH ACCESS 

Most of the homes here are no bank or low bank, so access to the water’s edge is a breeze. Given the importance of water access to the lifestyle here, the homes that sit higher above the water tend to have step down to it. If one's home doesn't come with a private dock or a slip in a shared dock, there is an opportunity to register a mooring buoy in the open water or join the Port Madison Yacht Club. Over time, you will undoubtedly connect with a neighbor with a dock who may be willing to lease you a slip. It's worth noting that being a boater is not a requirement of living here, but it's common for residents to have this interest.
