History of Rival

Rival Yachts, a highly esteemed brand in the boat manufacturing industry, began its storied journey in the early 1960s in England. The company was an ambitious endeavour initiated by three experienced seamen - Peter Brett, Dick Stratton and Mike Slack. Brett was the mastermind behind the design of their innovative crafts, and his passion for combining performance with comfort resulted in the Rival 31, the first boat launched in 1967. Boasting extraordinary qualities for an ocean cruiser, the Rival 31 received widespread recognition and admiration, effectively setting the tone for the company's future creations. Persisting with their focus on sturdy, sea-kindly cruising yachts, Rival later introduced the 32, 34, 36 and the 41, with the Rival 38 marking a significant change in their design approach. Their boats' overall craftsmanship and durability even led to several Rival yachts successfully participating in circumnavigations and transatlantic races. The company's primary manufacturing hub was based out of Southampton but later operations were moved to Burnham-on-Crouch for a period in the late 1970s.Over time, the management of Rival Yachts has changed hands a few times. The brand is currently managed by Bowman Yachts as part of its portfolio. Bowman Yachts, also known for its reputable marine craft, is now based in Emsworth, Hampshire. The continued production of Rival Yachts, especially the larger Bowman models, is a testament to the lasting value and legacy of the Rival brand. Despite the challenges met by the marine industry in recent years, Rival's unwavering commitment to its founding principles of durability and seaworthiness has cemented its place in yachting history.

This Rival 36  for sale in Lymington has been lightly used and is in very good condition.Built by Southern Yachts , she is a high-quality yacht with the ability to make  comfortable safe . 'Topaz's   hull was laid down in 1990 but Rossiter's boat yard in Christchurch fitted her out and launched her in 1996. Her sails and engine have been regularly serviced. She is easily sailed either single of short handed as she has a ST 4000 autohelm, Inmast reefing, and all lines lead back to the cockpit. She is set up for comfortable cruising . Topaz has  shore power and pressurized  hot water , there is a shower in the heads, the galley has a refrige ,oven ,grill and two burners . The Rival 36 has ample storage throughout. This is ago anywhere cruiser and is available for viewing in Lymington, Hampshire.

Accommodation

The Rival 36 has a quality teak finished interior which is in very good condition, as is the upholstery throughout. She sleeps 5. The forward main cabin has a en-suite facility, a twin berth with a fill-in to make up a double, and storage around the hull. The saloon has two settee berths with under seat storage. The dinning table folds and is very large. The galley has hot water, twin sinks, oven ,grill and two burners. There is an Isotherm fridge unit.  The heads has a hot water shower stainless steel sink, and mirror.

PRICE REDUCTION – Rival 36 ‘RIVAL MISCHIEF’

Mark Cameron Yachts are delighted to announce a recently reduced asking price for the Rival 36 ‘RIVAL MISCHIEF’.

First launched in 1980 the Rival 36 was the last of the Rival designs to be drawn by Peter Brett, the man responsible for creating the Rival brand and its iconic reputation as a robust reliable cruiser. Originally built by Southern Boatbuilding Company before the the merging of the Rival and Bowman brands there was reportedly a total of 78 hulls produced in the class before production ceased in the mid 1990’s.

One of the later examples of the Rival 36 design RIVAL MISCHIEF was commissioned by a discerning owner and lavished with extras from the factory. She is a rare combination of options with the more versatile MkI interior combined with the shallower Scheel keel and wheel steering.  With only her 5th owner since built she has had enjoyed continual maintenance and upgrading, maintaining her Lloyds 100A1 classification through until 2005. Reluctantly offered for sale she comes with a comprehensive inventory including highlights such as:

• Gelshield coated underwater hull sections from new
• CopperCoat antifouling applied 2014
• Laid decks professionally re-screwed and re-plugged in 2020
• Blakes seacocks fitted for all underwater through hull fittings.
• Yanmar 3YM30AE marine diesel engine fitted new in 2015, less than 200 hours running time
• Sterngear replaced in 2015
