Preparation and Research
Through a series of phone calls and questionnaires, we’ll help you think through your book concept, platform, audience, and marketplace. Our preparation also includes reviewing any drafts, notes, articles, outlines, and other relevant background materials.

Your Book Editor Your editor will lead the book-writing process and collaborate with the team to (a) develop the book’s positioning, core concepts, structure, and themes; (b) provide market analysis and advise on target audience, marketing, and publishing strategy; (c) edit and review the manuscript throughout the book-writing process. Note: All of the in-house editors at KAA are former acquisitions editors at Big-5 publishing houses (Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and Hachette) who have acquired and edited hundreds of traditionally published books, including numerous New York Times bestsellers.

Your Project Manager There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to writing and publishing a book. Your project manager will establish and maintain the timeline, schedule interviews, and be a helpful resource for any questions that come up along the way.
Publishing Executives Our team of publishing executives work behind the scenes with your writing team to ensure your book is aligned with your goals. They’ll also help you find the best home for your book (more on that below).
Strategy Sessions: Planning and Outlining Your Book
Meet with your book-writing team in person or via video conference for in-depth strategy sessions to brainstorm, plan, and build the foundation of your book. By the end of the sessions, you will have a detailed manuscript outline that captures your vision, as well as a publishing and marketing strategy that aligns with your goals.
Let’s Write Your Manuscript
It’s time to start writing your book! We’ll handle the heavy lifting so you can remain focused on the bigger picture, as well as life’s demands.
Your Words. Your Voice. Our Pen. At KAA, we ensure that your book is unmistakably yours. Through ongoing interviews and careful editing, we’ll ensure every idea, word, and piece of content sounds and feels like your distinct voice.
Ongoing Manuscript Review and Revisions Your writer will develop your manuscript one section at a time, giving you ample opportunity to discuss the draft in process and suggest revisions.
Your editor will oversee the writing process and provide ongoing editorial review and direction to ensure the quality of the writing is up to publishing industry standards.
Finalize Your Draft Once the manuscript is complete and meets your full approval, an additional editor (who has no knowledge of the project) will perform a “cold read,” editing the text for grammar and providing a final round of analysis and consultation.
Beta Reader Review and Revisions (Optional)
Your manuscript will be reviewed by 20+ impartial lay readers from within your target demographic who will provide detailed raw feedback and suggest improvements. The writing team will review this feedback with you and revise the book to ensure it resonates with your audience. Beta readers allow you and your team to make editorial decisions based on data.
Finding the Best Home for Your Book
Did you know less than 0.1% of people who want to write a book actually publish one? Not at KAA. Whether you want to break into traditional publishing, collaborate with a great hybrid publisher, or make the most of what self-publishing offers, we’ll guide you every step of the way. At KAA, we have former literary agents on staff, partnerships with dozens of publishers, and relationships with the most seasoned book marketers and PR teams to launch your book. We won’t just help you write your book, we’ll ensure you have a remarkable publishing experience.

What Do I Need to Consider When Choosing a Ghostwriter?
The internet is littered with online writing and editing services, making it nearly impossible to sift through the scams and find a legitimate and trustworthy service. Here are some questions to ask when you’re vetting companies to ensure that you pick a reliable firm for all your writing and editing needs:
- Is the price right? If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Developing a high-quality book can take hundreds of hours of work and requires a high level of expertise—don’t be tempted by third-rate writers who market “affordable” prices.
- Who owns the rights to the book? It’s your book, which means you should own the rights to your content. Be wary of ghostwriters asking for partial rights to your material.
- What is the payment arrangement? You should always pay for ghostwriting services in installments and never 100% upfront. After the initial deposit, you should make subsequent payments only if you’re happy with what the ghostwriter has written up to that point. You should have clearly defined milestones for payments to ensure that you and your writer know what to expect.
- Who’s in charge? Working with a ghostwriter is a collaborative effort, but you should have the final say on all content decisions. If a writer is unwilling to put your needs and requests first, then it will not be your book—it will be theirs.
- Should I choose a freelancer or a firm? Beware of working with freelancers. While some may be reputable or qualified, most are overbooked and will not make good on the promises they make to you. Also, if anything should go wrong (whether it’s an issue between you and the writer, or a health concern), you will be stuck in the awkward and frustrating position of reclaiming your expenditures and then finding a replacement writer. With a firm like ours, we replace the writer free of charge to ensure the process moves forward efficiently and effectively.
- What’s their reputation? Be sure the writer or firm has worked on books that have been published by major publishing houses. Ideally, the writing service you choose will have a robust staff of bestselling writers, experienced editors, and a wide range of connections to literary agents and publishers.
Whatever service you decide to use, be sure to protect yourself. Make certain that you are working with a reputable and experienced company.
What Is the Typical Ghostwriting Process?
Our comprehensive ghostwriting service provides you with an experienced team of professional writers, editors, and publishing experts who work collectively to write a publish-worthy book. You can read more about our general process here ; we are happy to personalize our process to your preferences and provide you with a detailed proposal.
What If I Don’t Need Every Service Included in Your Ghostwriting Package?
Feel free to pick and choose which services you want from us. We can often reduce the pricing if you prefer fewer services. We’re happy to customize our services to meet your needs.
Do I Have to Give the Ghostwriter Credit?
No! That is why it is called ghostwriting—no one will know you had help with the writing process unless you choose to tell them. Our services are 100% confidential. We do not retain any rights or ownership of your book whatsoever. Even if your book earns a million dollars, you will never owe us any credit or extra compensation unless you choose to do so. Be skeptical of other ghostwriting services that may require such promises from you. While credit is appreciated, it is never required.
Can I Claim Full Credit as Author Even Though I Didn’t Write the Book?
Yes, absolutely. The story we help you tell will always be your story. You are 100% the author of your book.
Are Your Services 100% Confidential?
How Long Does the Ghostwriting Process Typically Take?
The duration of the ghostwriting process is partly up to you. Depending on your schedule and desired level of involvement, your ghostwriter will develop material for you to review and approve on a weekly or biweekly basis. While every book is unique, on average, a 200-page or 50,000-word manuscript will take between four and nine months to develop. We can often rush these services for you if you need to meet a specific publishing date.
Is Ghostwriting Ethical?
Absolutely! The most important elements in writing a book are the ideas—and as the author and initiator of your book, the ideas are all yours. Even if you don’t consider yourself a writer or are too busy to develop a publishable book, your voice still deserves to be heard. The ghostwriting process is simply a means to get your wisdom, methods, story, or ideas onto paper.
Can I Include My Own Writing? Will this Save Me Money?
Yes and yes! We will gladly edit and incorporate any content that you provide. Depending on the strength of the content you’ve written, it may save you a lot of money!
What if I Just Want Feedback and Consultation on My Book?
Our editing and consultation services are perfectly suited for writers who are looking to improve their work. We can give input at whatever level of detail you’d like—overarching feedback on the structure and concept of the book, critical review on the flow and transitions, or copy edit the text itself. At your request, we can also address specific issues in our review of your work.
I’m Preparing for a Speech and Presentation—Do You Offer Ghostwriting Services for This?
Yes! While we focus primarily on writing books and other lengthier content, we also have experts on staff with extensive experience in writing speeches, presentations, and articles. In addition to writing content, we can develop presentation aids, such as PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi, and more. The process will be tailored to your needs and usually includes calls with the writer by phone or video call and ample email communication. Give us a call or send us an email to find out how we can help you.
My Book Requires Research—Do Your Ghostwriting Services Include This?
Yes, our ghostwriting packages can include research services. Whether your book requires basic internet searches or rigorous scholarly research, we have writers on staff who can conduct effective research and synthesize it into your book.
Am I Allowed to Choose My Ghostwriter? Can I View a Sample of Their Writing?
In general, we’re very adept at matching clients with the writer who will best suit them; however, we are also more than willing to provide you with writing samples and credentials for your potential writer, as well as schedule an interview. Our goal is to make sure you’re fully satisfied with your ghostwriting experience from the very beginning.
Can I Meet with My Writing Team in Person?
Yes, in most cases the team will meet with you in person at one of our office locations, or we can arrange for you to meet with them at your location. Travel expenses may apply should you need site visits or interviews at your location.
How Much Interaction Will I Have with My Ghostwriter and Writing Team?
You can have as much or as little interaction with your ghostwriter and editor as you’d like. We tailor our process to suit your schedule and your needs. Generally, clients opt to have regular interviews and collaboration sessions with their ghostwriter or editor via phone or video call, as well as ongoing communication by email. In certain instances, it is also possible to arrange for in-person meetings with your ghostwriter or editor. The entire process can be adapted to best support you!
How Can I Be Sure That a Ghostwriter Will Be Able to Capture My Vision?
Our writers work closely with you to ensure that the words on the page are as faithful to your vision as possible. Your writer will develop the material in small batches so that you can give feedback on the style, tone, and content of the writing. We’ll revise each section until you’re 100% satisfied.
What if It’s Not Working Out with My Assigned Ghostwriter?
If you’re unhappy with the material you’ve received from your writer, you can simply give that feedback directly to the writer or to the senior editor and we will adjust accordingly. Our skilled ghostwriters are able to shift their tone and style based on your preferences to ensure that you connect with the writing. If you are still unhappy with the writing after multiple revisions, we can assign a new writer to the project who is a better match for you—this type of flexibility is one of the unique benefits of working with a professional firm.
Once the Book Is Ghostwritten, How Do You Help with Publishing and Marketing?
We know that the publishing industry can be daunting, especially for first-time authors, so we offer consultation and comprehensive support for traditional, hybrid, and self-publishing outlets. Most of our all-inclusive ghostwriting packages include an original and customized query letter or book proposal free of charge. This invaluable marketing tool will be used to promote your book to literary agents and publishers. Not sure how to find a reputable literary agent? We’ve got you covered—we’ll provide you with a list of genre-appropriate agents to whom you can send your query letter or proposal!
I Have an Idea for a Book, But I Don’t Know if It’s Good. Can You Help?
Our consultation services are perfect for authors who have an idea and want to talk it through to weigh the merits and challenges of the project. Our professional publishing consultants can discuss your project with you and give you feedback on the concept, outline, and implementation. Give us a call and tell us about your book idea!
How Involved Will I Need to Be in the Process?
Your level of involvement is entirely up to you. You can opt to work closely with your ghostwriter, or simply provide them with basic information and let them do the rest of the work. This is your book, which means that you have final say on the content; how and when you give your input and approval is your decision. We’ll work with you to customize the process so that it fits your schedule and preferred working style.
How Long Will It Take to Write My Book?
The duration of the ghostwriting process is partly up to you—the author! Depending on your schedule and desired level of involvement, your ghostwriter will develop material for you to review and approve on a weekly or biweekly basis. While every book is unique, on average, a 200-page or 50,000-word manuscript will take between four and nine months to develop. We can often rush these services for you if you need to meet a specific publishing deadline.
I'm Not a Writer, But I Have a Great Idea for a Movie/Novel/etc. Can You Help?
Give us a call! We’ll help you bring your story to life—for the screen, the page, or even the stage. We are passionate, and we have the experience you need to help you write your story. We can pair you with a skilled ghostwriter, editor, or consultant to coax your concept out into a fully formed work of art that you’ll be proud to call your own. Don’t let lack of experience hold you back from actualizing a great idea!
Can You Help Me Write a Play?
Our team of writers is well versed in developing both stageplays and screenplays, and we would be delighted to collaborate with you. As with novelists, we work with playwrights in a flexible, customized way. We can develop material independently that you review and approve, or the process can involve in-depth interviews and one-on-one writing sessions—it’s all up to you!
I’ve Written a Book Before, But It Wasn’t Successful. What Can You Do to Help Me Succeed?
Writing is just like any other skill or art form; practice, feedback, and refinement are the means to improving your abilities. Every writer needs an editor, and even the most brilliant ideas can benefit from a collaborator or two. We can work with you on material that you’ve already created to give detailed, insightful feedback and suggestions on how to take your craft to the next level. We can also build off of the ideas that you’ve already generated and ghostwrite new material for you.
Our services are perfectly suited for writers who are looking to improve their work. Our professional staff is ready to give you the tools, motivation, and reflection that you need to succeed.

Some people are born writers. Other people are brimming with ideas, but don’t have the time to develop their writing skills and commit these ideas to paper. This is where ghostwriters step in, to ensure that your idea sees the light of day and finds its way to readers.
And you can find some of the best, most experienced ghostwriters right here in on Reedsy. With our rigorous vetting process, we typically accept fewer than one in twenty applications from ghostwriters. We’ve effectively ensured that you’ll find truly qualified professional ghostwriters for hire on Reedsy.

But first… what does a ghostwriter do?
The job of a ghostwriter is to execute a piece of writing on behalf of another person. The role a ghostwriter plays, and the process they follow, will depend highly on the specific piece of writing they’re helping produce. However, when it comes to books, ghostwriters typically start by sitting down with their clients (whether physically or digitally) and interviewing them for several hours. This is to ensure that they fully grasp the client’s idea and can capture their voice.
For both fiction and nonfiction, the ghostwriter will stay in close contact with the client to make sure that vital elements (such as the clear presentation of arguments and research or the continuity of characters and plotlines) are all in check.
The “transparency” (pardon the pun) of the ghost’s input will vary. Sometimes the ghostwriter is credited as a collaborator, typically in the acknowledgments section. Other times, they might be listed as co-author right in the front bill. And often, the presence of a ghostwriter is kept tightly wrapped under confidentiality clauses. In most cases, Reedsy ghostwriters are happy to provide any level of secrecy that you may require. Learn more about what ghostwriters do here .
What are the rates of Reedsy’s ghostwriting services?
Ghostwriters are responsible for setting their own fees on Reedsy, so there’s not a single “going rate.” That being said, we can offer some budgetary pointers regarding what authors in need of ghostwriting services can expect.
Almost all of the time, professional ghostwriters will quote you a flat fee for the whole job, that might be broken up by how much they charge per day or hour, depending on the project.
Some ghostwriters will allow authors to pay in stages. If the collaboration doesn’t work out, you can part ways without paying for the whole project — and the ghostwriter is still paid for the work they delivered. Finally, if a ghostwriter is extremely confident in the commercial potential of a book, they might agree to take on the job for a percentage of the royalties — but this is very uncommon for freelance clients.
When it comes to the actual price tag of ghostwriting services, the range is wide. A ghostwriter with a full schedule of projects will quote clients a much higher fee than a ghostwriter just getting their foot in the door. Figure out what kind of budget you can afford ahead of time, and don’t be afraid to negotiate with the ghostwriters you reach out to.
Read more about how much it costs to hire a ghostwriter here.
Why trust Reedsy ghostwriters?
When you’re ready, select up to five ghostwriters you’d like to work with, and request quotes from them. There is no obligation to hire any of them, but if you meet a ghostwriter you like, you can establish your own terms and timeline with them, and officially commence your project.
