A Closer Look at Nicole Kidman's Yacht Houkalani

Ever since 1969, Sunseeker has been one of the companies at the cutting edge of luxury yacht design. The company’s founder, Robert Braithwaite, used new materials and technology to give a small group of customers a new experience on the sea. And since the 1960s, the company have become one of the leading experts in luxurious boat design.

One of their most noteworthy customers is Nicole Kidman

It’s expected for successful actors and actresses, businessmen and entrepreneurs to own expensive things such as enormous mansions, expensive cars, and luxury yachts, and actress Nicole Kidman is no exception. Like the director Steven Spielberg, Nicole has bought a luxury yacht and named it the Hokulani. The name has a great significance for this actress, who was actually born on the Hawaiian island Oahu, and according to this article from E-News , her parents actually gifted her with the Hawaiian name Hokulani, a name Nicole’s husband, Keith Urban sometimes refers to her as. Hokulani means heavenly star in Hawaiian.

Crowned the richest celebrity of Australia, according to this Daily Mail article for 2017, Nicole Kidman has starred in numerous successful movies, such as Moulin Rouge, and her success is shown in her collection of mansion houses such as the Bunya Hill property, which cost the actress $6.7 million, according to this Youtube video, but it is her luxury yacht, the Hokulani which is the subject of this article. The Hokulani is a “Sunseeker Manhattan 74” luxury yacht, costing Nicole Kidman a cool $ 4.5 million to buy, and according to this Youtube video which goes into detail about the 9 most expensive things this great actress has already, the yacht contains every amenity anyone could wish for. According to Club Yacht’s article on the actress’s yacht, the Sunseeker can travel at 29 knots thanks to its twin MTU-4000 engines. The interior luxuries were the brainchild of the design team based in Nuvolari-Lenard, and owners other than Nicole Kidman can enjoy furnishings done in natural wood and fittings which provide an air of elegance, while large windows offer passengers tremendous views of the outside world.

The Hokulani is perfect if you want to have a fun time on the ocean, and in the summer months, Nicole frequently travels on the Hokulani. And why shouldn’t she? It has an on-deck wet-bar with showers which can issue hot or cold water, a luxury saloon, a well-stocked galley (kitchen in ocean terms), five luxurious cabins complete with en-suite bathrooms with provided entertainment facilities so the guests won’t become bored on a cruise and a living area which provides great entertainment should the actress have guests staying with her onboard the yacht. Even better - she and anyone with her can enjoy the water sports. The Hokulani, as a Sunseeker luxury yacht has waterski’s provided, along with tows to PWC’s, and snorkeling equipment and wakeboards.

Unfortunately, it isn’t all fun and games for Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman has long since been known as one of Sydney, and indeed, one of Australia’s most favorite children, though her reputation took a battering in 2008 when she had a poor error in judgment. The actress has sparked anger because of the Hokulani. According to this article dated from 2008, from Independent , neighbors want Nicole to take the yacht away with her. Nicole once lived in a prestigious apartment building in Sydney, close to the harbor. This building is home to some of Australia’s leading celebrities. When she sold her apartment, she made the mistake of leaving behind the Hokulani. Her former neighbors were left furious, and who could blame them for the actress’ actions? She had left behind this $4.5 million yacht in the harbor for nearly a year, which contravened the by-laws which regulate life on the pier the Hokulani was moored to in Walsh Bay, which is one of Sydney’s rejuvenated success stories, and contains some of the cities most expensive and luxury homes.

The bylaws state very clearly the only people who can moor their boats and yachts at the marina which is adjacent to the property Nicole Kidman had once lived in, and some residents have event accused the local committee of showing favoritism towards the actress because they allowed the Hokulani to remain moored in the marina for a year. To the Australians, it was probably bad enough that Nicole’s starring role in the movie Australia, where she played an English aristocrat, who inherited a ranch was panned. What made it even worse was around the same time the Hokulani was moored to the marina after she had moved away, Aboriginal leaders condemned her for playing the didgeridoo, which has long since been played by men traditionally. So the last thing the actress needs is aggravation from her former neighbors, although from a certain point of view their condemnation wouldn’t be especially high when compared to the condemnation of the Aboriginal people of her home country.

Far from being ignorant of the bylaws, the Sydney star knew what she was doing. The reason she had left the Yacht moored at her former home was, as a spokesperson said, she intended to try and buy a property in the same area. It never happened. The spokesperson promised residents the Hokulani would be moved shortly, and it was, though not before its presence upset the local residents.

From huge 'rockstar' cruise ships offering spectacular entertainment to luxury superyachts , Dorset has seen its fair share of impressive vessels. However, there is one stunning yacht that is owned by a very famous individual.

The Sunseeker Manhattan 74, or 74 Sport Yacht, is, as of 2018, owned by Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman, which she has called Hokulani, according to Motorboat and Yachting . The yacht's name means 'heavenly star' and is said to be a nickname given to the 55-year-old actress by her parents to pay homage to her birthplace of Honolulu, Hawaii.

The star is perhaps most known for her roles in hit films including The Hours and Moulin Rouge, though it might be less known that she owns this impressive superyacht. The Manhattan 74 is described as "undeniably a Sunseeker" boasting luxurious interior designs and interesting features.

The yacht is ideal for socialising with guests. The vessel is split over three levels, including an upper level vantage point to take in the sea views. Inside, there is the owner's room, five guest suites, the captain's cabin and even has room to sleep up to eight crew members.

The vessel's design is sleek and modern and measures in at around 22.82m. There is enough space for an entertainment room as well as a few water toys.

It is also boasted as having high-tech features, including hydraulic drop-away cockpit doors that opens up the interior living space to invite the outside. There are comfortable seating and sunpads on both sides of the vessel to ensure a relaxed space for guests to chill out and soak in some rays.

Motorboat and Yachting reportedly said that the yacht is expected to cost in the region on £2.1 million. It seems the Nicole Kidman-owned superyacht is sure to turn heads wherever she visits.

A 150-foot, champagne-colored superyacht reportedly once owned - and apparently abandoned - by Nicole Kidman just hit the market. Take a look inside.

Despite being more than a decade old, Imperial says the 45.7-meter (or about 150-foot) yacht is still in "perfect condition," thanks to its seven-person crew.

Even the bridge looks luxurious.

Hokulani has five guest staterooms that can sleep up to 10 guests total. Each stateroom has its own ensuite bathroom.

There are two VIP cabins with double beds ...

... and a grand master suite with a king-sized bed, study area, and walk-in closet.

It also has a private, fold-out balcony.

Hokulani even features a hydraulically-powered tender garage to store jet skis that keep guests entertained while the yacht is anchored.

There is also plenty of room for everyone to hang out and relax on the sun deck ...

... or in the main salon during inclement weather.

The superyacht's other amenities include a sunbathing area and cinema room.

Despite its luxurious amenities, Kidman reportedly "abandoned" the superyacht in a Sydney marina after relocating to Tennessee with husband Keith Urban.

Sydney-born Kidman has long been the city's favourite daughter but her reputation has taken a battering in recent weeks. Her latest film, Australia , in which she plays an English aristocrat who inherits an outback cattle ranch, has been panned around the world. Last week, she was condemned by Aboriginal leaders for playing the didgeridoo n an instrument generally considered to be reserved for men n on a German chat show. Now comes the Melrose Place-style drama on her home turf. The star, who still owns a waterside mansion in Sydney's affluent eastern suburbs, is apparently well aware that Hokulani is breaching regulations. A spokesman for Kidman told the Sydney Morning Herald that the boat had been left at the marina because she had contemplated buying another apartment in the same block, which did not happen. The spokesman claimed the boat would be moved next week, and denied that Kidman was "trying to take advantage of the situation". "The [governing committee] would never do anything just because it's her," he said. An adviser to the owners' corporation, Wally Paterson, agreed the yacht's continuing presence was a breach of bylaws but insisted he was "absolutely adamant everyone gets treated equally no matter who or what they are". Pier 6/7 is home to, among others, Ryan Stokes, the son of the Australian media magnate Kerry Stokes, Paul Cave, who founded the hugely popular BridgeClimb over Sydney Harbour, and a glamorous former television news anchor, Mary Kostakidis. Kidman's fellow Hollywood star, Cate Blanchett, is co-artistic director (with her husband, Andrew Upton) of the nearby Sydney Theatre Company in Walsh Bay. Ms Kidman, who recently had a baby daughter, Sunday Rose, with her husband, the country singer Keith Urban, lives mainly in Nashville. She jets into Sydney frequently to see family, and usually spends Christmas there but said recently that she would be staying in Nashville because she was upset by negative reviews of her role in Australia , directed by Baz Luhrmann. Hokulani is actually actress Nicole Kidman’s name in Hawaiian. She and her country-superstar husband used it to name their 3-story super-yacht. It comes with a jacuzzi, televisions, water skis, wakeboards, snorkeling equipment, and a glass atrium roof. Ten guests and eight crew members can sleep inside the belly of this 150-foot beast.

Estimates point its value at around $4.5 million. That doesn’t really matter to a couple that’s worth $195 million. This sea vessel was designed for elegance, with wood furnishings, large windows, and a champagne-colored exterior. I’m not sure about the color but sign me up for water skiing.

Eric Clapton Rocks Onboard his Va Bene

Eric Clapton, who was the subject of many graffiti declaring “Clapton is God,” is one the greatest guitarist of all time, as well as one of the most recognizable names in rock and roll. Clapton is also known for his 156-foot super-yacht, which is worth around 9 million pounds.

The Va Bene has enough room for 12 guests and 12 crew members. There’s a barbecue grill, two dining centers (one formal and one informal), and a karaoke lounge. Clapton put the yacht up for sale in 2016, but don’t worry. He’s got another one.

Leo’s Yacht of Choice: The Topaz

Ok, so Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't own this super-yacht, but he does rent it. For a whopping 3,750,000 euros, Leo charters the Topaz for a week of partying. In 2014, he threw an '80s themed party, echoing "Wolf of Wall Street" (2013). Leo invited Orlando Bloom and Jamie Foxx, among other A-list celebrities.

Built by Lürssen Yachts in 2012, the Topaz is considered one of the largest in the world at 483 feet long. There's a gym, a conference room, a water sports center to chill with supermodels, and two helipads, which is better than what Jack (Leo) got in "Titanic".

The Ghost (of their relationship)

Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie knew how to chill in style (when they were still together, that is). The ex-couple liked spending time with their children on The Ghost. Owned by Australian accountant Anthony Bell, this 122-foot super-yacht can now be chartered for way higher than what most people make in a year. Probably because the couple isn't using it anymore.

Having won design awards, the Ghost has three guest cabins and can accommodate six guests. There is also a custom catamaran for those who like sailing. This super-yacht is fast, having competed in super-yacht regattas. It can go as quickly as Pitt and Jolie's marriage.

Nicole Kidman's yacht angers Sydney neighbours

Nicole Kidman has angered her former neighbours by leaving her yacht moored outside their exclusive harbourside apartment complex almost a year after she moved out.

Strict bylaws at Pier 6/7 Walsh Bay, a renovated former wharf, state only residents can keep their boats in the adjacent marina.

But Kidman's A$4.5m (£2.1m) yacht Hokulani still sits outside the building and residents have started to complain that it is blocking their view. They have also accused the committee that runs the complex of favouritism towards the Hollywood star.

A spokesman for Kidman told the Sydney Morning Herald that the boat had been left at Pier 6/7 because she had planned to buy another apartment on the site. The sale did not take place, and the boat would be moved in the next week, he said, denying Kidman was "trying to take advantage of the situation".

"The [governing committee] would never do anything just because it's her," he said.

An adviser to the owners' corporation, Wally Paterson, agreed the yacht's continuing presence was a breach of bylaws but told the paper he was "absolutely adamant everyone gets treated equally no matter who or what they are".

Kidman now owns a house in nearby Elizabeth Bay, also close to the harbour, but spends most of her time in Nashville where she lives with her husband, Keith Urban, and new daughter Sunday Rose.

The 45.97m/150'10" 'Hokulani' open yacht built by the American shipyard Palmer Johnson is available for charter for up to 10 guests in 5 cabins. This yacht features interior styling by Italian designer Nuvolari Lenard.

Dynamic Hokulani can zip across the waters at a thrilling pace, and particularly impresses guests with her outdoor spaces perfect for lounging and sunbathing.

Guest Accommodation

Built in 2007, Hokulani offers guest accommodation for up to 10 guests in 5 suites comprising a master suite, two double cabins and two twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 8 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Hokulani benefits from some excellent features to improve your charter, particularly Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to stay connected at all times, should you wish. You can stay comfortable on board whatever the weather, with air conditioning during your charter.

Performance & Range

Built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, she has impressive speed and great efficiency thanks to her planing hull. Powered by twin MTU engines, she comfortably cruises at 20 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 28 knots with a range of up to 2,500 nautical miles from her 41,100 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. Her low draft of 1.9m/6'3" makes her primed for accessing shallow areas and cruising close to the shorelines.

Hokulani has a good selection of water toys and accessories to entertain you and your guests whilst on charter. Take to the sea on the Jet Skis offering you power and control on the water. Also there are towable toys offering fun and adventure. In addition there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. If that isn't enough Hokulani also features wakeboards, inflatable water toys, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment. Hokulani also sports a 5.4m/17'9" Novurania Tender to transport you with ease.

Hokulani is available upon request for charter this winter. She is already accepting bookings this summer for cruising in the Mediterranean.

Photographer who accused Taylor Swift's father of assaulting him says he's never been 'punched in the chops, particularly by the talent's dad'

• Photographer Ben McDonald accused Taylor Swift's dad of punching him in Sydney, Australia.
• McDonald was photographing the singer as she left a yacht on Tuesday when the alleged incident happened.
• He said he's never been "punched in the chops, particularly by the talent's dad."

A photographer accused Taylor Swift 's dad, Scott Swift, of punching him as he tried to take her photo in Australia in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The singer was met by photographers in Sydney as she left a superyacht in Neutral Bay Wharf following her final show of the Eras Tour Australian leg.

"Police have been told a 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf about 2.30am before leaving the location," a New South Wales Police spokesperson told Business Insider. "The younger man reported the incident and inquiries are now underway by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command."

A spokesperson for Swift told Business Insider: "Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water."

The photographer, Ben McDonald, called the claims "utter rubbish" in a statement to Daily Mail Australia .

"This is the sort of bullshit I might expect. Which female was that? The only one there was Taylor," he said.

"In 23 years, I haven't been assaulted and punched in the chops, particularly by the talent's dad," McDonald told the Associated Press .

He alleged in the interview that Swift's security team initiated the incident by shoving umbrellas at his camera, adding that he didn't know who punched him at first.

"Someone else came running at me and punched me in the left side of my face. Initially, I thought it was an Australian security that was trying to be the hero of the moment in the front of the Americans, but as it turned out it was her father," McDonald said.

"We didn't go rushing down the jetty. We didn't go rushing to the back of the boat. We waited for her to come up. Kept it very civil," he claimed.

Nicole Kidman had a temporary restraining order against Ben McDonald

This isn't the first time McDonald has made headlines. In 2005, Nicole Kidman was given a temporary restraining order against the photographer after a listening device was found outside her home in Sydney, per The Telegraph .

At the time, Kidman's team issued a statement, saying: "Nicole would like to make it clear that she acknowledges she is a public figure and that reporters and photographers have a job to do and she respects that."

The statement continued: "However, these are specific actions against two individuals who, over a period of time, have caused her to feel threatened, intimidated and unable to leave her home without fearing for her safety."

At the time, McDonald's lawyer issued a statement saying: "He denies emphatically he has anything to do with planting any listening device."

Ben McDonald's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Nicole Kidman is angering former neighbors in an apartment block in Sydney with her abandoned yacht Hokulani. Kidman, who spends large amounts of time now in Nashville with husband Keith Urban and baby Sunday, used to have an apartment in a waterfront complex called Pier 6/7, before selling it last year. Despite moving herself, she left her boat.

Now, the Independent reports , she is breaking some bylaws with the abandoned ship:

The bylaws also state that only residents can park their yachts in the adjacent marina. So why is Kidman's large boat, Hokulani, still moored there, nearly a year after she moved out? Favouritism, mutter disgruntled locals, who accuse the committee of turning a blind eye to its presence... The star, who still owns a waterside mansion in Sydney's affluent eastern suburbs, is apparently well aware that Hokulani is breaching regulations. A spokesman for Kidman told the Sydney Morning Herald that the boat had been left at the marina because she had contemplated buying another apartment in the same block, which did not happen. The spokesman claimed the boat would be moved next week, and denied that Kidman was "trying to take advantage of the situation". "The [governing committee] would never do anything just because it's her," he said. An adviser to the owners' corporation, Wally Paterson, agreed the yacht's continuing presence was a breach of bylaws but insisted he was "absolutely adamant everyone gets treated equally no matter who or what they are".

She bought the Sunseeker 74 back in 2004 for $4.5 M. She has not used it lately, however. She was photographed in the summer of 2007 on a day cruise with family and friends.

Nicole Kidman – Hokulani

Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman owns a Sunseeker Manhattan 74 called Hokulani .

Hokulani means ‘heavenly star’, which is one of Kidman’s names. Her parents choose an Hawaiian moniker in honour of the actress’s birthplace, Honolulu.

The 22.55m motor yacht cost £2.1m, is split over three levels and boasts an owner’s room and five guest suites, captain’s cabin and quarters for 8 crew, plus an entertainment room and several water toys. The interior was designed by Nuvolari & Lenard.

Dolce & Gabbana – Regina d’Italia

Built by Codecasa, the Italian designers’ motor yacht is 51m long and reaches a speed of 17.5 knots. Its aluminium exterior is rather minimal but its interior mirrors the duo’s fashion vision, with opulent and baroque furnishing. Regina d’ Italia (Queen of Italy) offers a master’s suite, five guest cabins, one captain cabin and four cabins for crew members.

Andrey Melnichenko – Motor Yacht A

Designed by Philip Starck and built by Blohm and Voss, 119m Motor Yacht A cost a whopping $300 million and took four years to complete. It’s one of the biggest motor yachts in the world and belongs to Russian industrialist Andrey Melnichenko.

Motor Yacht A sleeps 14 guests and 42 crew. The plush yacht has all that the oligarch can desire, including three spa pools, helipad, underwater lights, jacuzzi, tender garage and entertainment rooms. Andrey Melnichenko also owns the famous Sailing Yacht A , also designed by Starck.

David Geffen – Rising Sun

Built by Lürssen Yachts in 2004, music and media mogul David Geffen’s 138m, $200m  yacht is pure luxury at sea. Rising Sun sleeps 16 guests and 45 crew members.

Previously owned by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, who sold it because he thought it was too big, Rising Sun has probably seen more celebrity guests than any other yacht as Geffen, co-creator of Geffen Records and DreamWorks is one of the most connected people in the entertainment industry. Motor Yacht

Luxury motor yacht Hokulani was built in 2007 by American shipyard Palmer Johnson. With an aluminium hull and superstructure, she features naval architecture by palmer Johnson and the interior work of Nuvolari-Lenard. This twin screw yacht measures 45.97 metres and can accommodate up to 10 guests.

Motor yacht Hokulani is the second launch in the 150 series by Palmer Johnson, following in the wake of O’Khalila which is in private hands. She is easily identifiable both on the water and in the marina with her distinctive exterior profile in a colour close to champagne and accents in striking black.

This tri-deck vessel displays a contemporary interior that boasts natural woods; not surprising in a yacht that aims to bring passengers close to the outside environment. To bring the outside onboard her main salon has large windows for panoramic views, while her outside spaces encourage outside living. She has a large sundeck and huge sunpads across her main deck.

There are three dining areas onboard; two for eight and one that seats 10, as well as a number of lounging areas. Unusually for a yacht of this size, there is no hot tub on board.

Amongst her five cabins are an indulgent master suite, two VIP suites and two twins. The split level master suite is located forward on the lower deck and features a private study, walk-in wardrobe, entertainment system and his and hers bathroom with Jacuzzi. The VIP suites and twin cabins feature en suite bathrooms and entertainment systems.

The crew’s quarters include four lower deck cabins that sleep eight and a double Captain’s cabin.

Luxury yacht Hokulani is powered by two MTU 4000 series 3650 horsepower engines that allow her to reach a maximum speed of 29 knots.

Featuring a dedicated crew, Hokulani is an excellent charter yacht for luxury vacations. The yacht cruises comfortably at 25 knots while her crew of seven, under the direction of Captain Egon Viljoen, ensure the needs of every guest are met.

The luxury motor yacht is equipped with an armada of water toys to provide endless entertainment during any yacht charter. Onboard water toys include tenders, PWCs, waterskis and tows, wakeboard, and snorkelling equipment. All toys are stored within a neat garage.

Hokulani cruises the West Mediterranean during both the summer and winter charter seasons.

The luxury vessel has been built to Lloyds classification and is fully MCA compliant.

Keith Urban has a special name for Nicole Kidman .

The 46-year-old actress, who was born on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, revealed recently to InStyle that her parents actually gave her the Hawaiian name of Hokulani after birth, a name that Urban often calls his wife at home.

"My mum called me Hokulani. It means heavenly star," the Oscar winner explained to the mag. "That's something no one really knows. Well, Keith knows it. He calls me Hokulani sometimes."
