Planned perfectly

We loved this trip. Every day we snorkeled, went on a tender ride to explore the coastline, and went on a hike/walk to explore the land. The days were perfectly planned. There were snacks after every activity and the crew was super vigilant about safety and keeping us informed.

Great Time on the Galaxy

The opportunity to snorkel with turtles and variety of fish. Our group was multi-generational and the children added a fun dimension to the tours.

A trip filled with a lot of activities, good food and service.

Some of the highlights of the trip are snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, having interesting conversations at the dinner table.

An incredible Galapagos cruise!

My husband and I loved our 5 day/4 night Galapagos cruise onboard the Galaxy. Everything about the cruise was fantastic. The boat was clean and well furnished. The cabins were spacious and comfortable. The features like shower and air conditioning worked well. The food was wonderful and we never went hungry. We particularly liked the snacks they would serve every time we returned to the boat from an activity like snorkeling or beach walk. The crew was kind and professional. The naturalist was spirited and knowledgeable. Everything happened on a precise schedule that was easy to follow (and nice to have structure). The snorkeling was amazing, especially with the high quality scuba mask and wet suits provided. We will absolutely be returning to the Galapagos another cruise!

Bucket list, check!

Care and concern demonstrated by crew always going the extra mile to keep us smiling. Boat condition and cleanliness was exceptional.

Absolutely incredible and utterly unique

A Galapagos cruise seems pricey at first. But once you've experienced one, you will never regret a penny. It's not just that the islands and wildlife are utterly incredible and unlike anything else in this world, there is so much included in that price -- 3-4 excursions a day, zodiacs taking you to and from the islands, snorkeling gear, room + board, nearly a ratio of 1 crew to each guest, as well as the cost of the domestic flight to the islands. It takes an immense amount of effort and resources to execute these trips. It's impossible to describe in words how unique the islands and wildlife are -- it leaves you with a new appreciation of how precious and marvelous our planet it. Just go -- you won't regret it.

Amazing adventure with lots of wildlife

Wide variety of wildlife

Amazing - no two days were the same!!

Swimming with sharks and manta rays

The crew and guide provided us with a great adventure.

As a bird photographer I was able to get many good photos and was thrilled with a close up of of a Galapogas Hawk. I also took many exciting scenes. The crew were well trained and very friendly and helpful.

We’re here to help, 24/7.

4 Day - Northern Islands

itinerary map

Embarkation

AM : Arrive at Baltra Island. Reception at the airport. Transfer in. Welcome onboard Galaxy Cruise. Welcome, drink, and lunch.

PM : This islet is located between Baltra Island and North Seymour. Here, we find the largest sea lion colony; it is also possible to observe several species of birds. Enjoy the white sand beach. Hiking. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 4-Day Itinerary Day One - Embarkation.

Sullivan Bay & Bartolome Island

AM:  Wet landing and hiking at Sullivan Bay. All roads and the island are composed of lava flows that are still virtually without erosion, covering an extensive area, including lava pahoehoe or cords, and hornitos. Lava Colonizers. Snacks and refreshing beverages await you. Lunch.

PM:  Dry landing, wet landing for the beach. Activities on this island include walking, swimming, snorkeling, and photography. We will follow a path to the top (114m) where we can observe pioneering plants, such as tiquilia, chamaesyce, and scalesia. The island has been formed by cones and lava pipes where lava once flowed. Following the wet landing at the beach, we will take a path through mangrove swamps and dune vegetation, to the south beach. At the north beach, guests can enjoy swimming and snorkeling. From the top of Bartolome, we will be able to see the islands of Santiago, Rabida, and Isabela. We will see penguins in the Rock Pinnacle. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Two - Hiking Sullivan Bay.

Barranco & Darwin Bay

AM:  Dry landing, activities: hiking. Also known as Prince Felipe’s stairs. Here, we will take a walk along the Barranco path. During our journey, we will observe tropical birds, petrels, common frigate birds, red-foot boobies, masked boobies, doves, and finches. Return to Galaxy. Lunch

PM:  Wet landing, coral beach, activities for this day: short walks, photography, swimming, snorkeling. Genovesa is a small island in the northern part of the Galapagos. Our landing in Darwin Bay will be wet. Near the beach is a mangrove swamp where we will find a colony of frigate birds, marine iguanas, red-footed boobies and masked boobies, the great terrestrial finch, seagulls, herons, and cactus finches. Following the land visit, our passengers can enjoy a swim in the bay. Snacks and refreshments are available. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Three - Red-Footed Booby Sighting.

Disembarkation

AM:  Dry landing. The Interpretation Center is located in the main port. After breakfast, our first visit is to the Interpretation Center of San Cristobal. You will learn about the volcanic formation of the islands, the evolution of species, the history of human settlement, and complex systems and management models.

After your morning excursion, you will be transferred to San Cristobal Airport for your departure flight.

Galaxy’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Four - Disembarkation.

5 Day - Southern Islands

itinerary map

PM:  San Cristobal airport. Reception at the airport. Transfer in. Welcome onboard Galaxy Cruise. Welcome, drink, and lunch.

Panga ride, swimming, and snorkeling at Lobos Island. Here, we can walk, swim and snorkel among the seals, frigate birds, marine iguanas, lava lizards, and the small endemic Galapagos snake.

Galaxy’s 5-Day Itinerary Day One - Embarkation.

Gardner Bay & Suarez Point

AM:  Breakfast early in the morning. Our first visit starts with a wet landing at Gardner Bay. Activities during this visit: short walk, swimming, snorkeling, and observation of seal colony. The sea lion is one of the animals that receive a lot of attention from visitors in the Galapagos: they are curious and playful, but at times aggressive; they are nice and loving, but also lazy. We are going to find many of them relaxing on the beach enjoying the sun in Gardner Bay. In addition to observing these fascinating animals, we will be able to swim with sea lions, sea turtles, a diversity of tropical fish, marine iguanas, etc. while snorkeling. We will return to the ship and sail to Gardner and Osborn Islets. Lunch.

PM:  Dry landing at Suarez Point. Activities: Walking, sight-seeing. We recommend athletic shoes, a hat or cap, and sunscreen. There is no color more amazing and outstanding in this tropical desert island than that of the blue-foot boobies. These birds have an impressive form of “greeting,” and it is a real thrill to see their mating dance. The blue-footed booby can be seen on several islands, as nesting grounds and food are located along with several coastal locations. The albatross, an aristocratic bird weighing up to four kilograms, can be observed here. This is one of the largest birds of the islands, with approximately 12,000 couples nesting on Espanola Island and a smaller number nesting on Silver Island, near mainland Ecuador. This species is considered endemic to this island.

During our walk, we will observe these fantastic birds while taking in the beautiful landscapes offered by this island. It is important to note that albatrosses will not be seen between January and March (non-breeding season). We will also see colonies of marine iguanas, masked boobies, finches, Española mockingbirds, and seagulls endemic to the islands. Our walk will be along lava rock, where we will be able to see lava tubes. Red mangroves are found here. Delicious snacks and fresh beverages are waiting for you on the ship. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Two - Blue-Footed Booby Sighting.

Post Office Bay, Cormorant Point & Devil's Crown

AM:  Breakfast early in the morning. Our first visit will be a wet landing at Post Office Bay. Activities: short walk, swimming, snorkeling, explanation of the mail system. Mail Bay is located on the north side of Floreana Island. Captain James Colnett installed an empty barrel to be used as a post office for the whaling fleets that stopped at the Galapagos Islands. You can leave postcards to your friends and relatives here and/or pick up mail to deliver. Back at the ship, delicious snacks and beverages await.

PM:  Wet landing, snorkeling, and short trek at Cormorant Point. This point is located on western Floreana Island, and it is famous for its dark green beach (due to a large number of olivine crystals). You can see many marine invertebrates here, as well as sea lions, sea iguanas, frigate birds, and pelicans.

Activities at Devil's Crown include a panga ride and optional swimming. Enjoy a panga ride around a small island, a satellite islet of Floreana Island. Here, we will find a group of rocks that resemble a crown due to the constant erosion caused by the sea. It is one of the better places to snorkel (shallow diving) in and around the crown. Excellent visibility allows guests to admire a great variety of fish and sea animals. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Three - Panga Ride.

Santa Fe & South Plaza Islands

AM:  Wet landing at Santa Fe this morning, as we enjoy hiking, swimming, and snorkeling. At 60m above sea level, this central island is a unique place to visit. It has an incredible bay with turquoise water, protected by a natural barrier of rocks. You will see colonies of seals, while hawks fly overhead. This island is home to one of two species of land iguanas found in the Galapagos. Their main food source is the leaves and fruit of the large, thick cacti found here. Crabs, nocturnal herons, marine iguanas, mockingbirds, and land doves are frequently seen. The bay is an excellent place to swim and snorkel. Marine tortoises, rays, sea lions, and tropical fish are an amazing attraction! Snacks and refreshing beverages are waiting for you aboard the ship. Lunch. Navigate to South Plazas Island.

PM:  South Plaza is made up of two small islands created by the uplifting of the land. The land iguanas are smaller here; nesting during the warm season. The hike runs along an extraordinary cliff where seabirds nest. There are approximately 1,000 sea lions located on the south side of Plazas Island. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Four - Swimming with Sea Lions.

AM:  Breakfast is very early in the morning. Luggage and belongings should be ready for checkout, our last visit, the Charles Darwin Research Station. The Charles Darwin Station is located in the main port on Santa Cruz Island; we will take a private bus to the entrance of the breeding center where we will see tortoises and land iguanas in captivity. This center is the main breeding site on the islands. Animals that were in danger of extinction on various islands are maintained here in captivity. Thanks to the dedicated work of several institutions, some species are being saved. This is where Lonesome George lived, the famous last survivor of the species of giant tortoise found on Pinta Island.

After your morning excursion, you will be transferred to Baltra Airport for your departure flight.

Galaxy’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Five - Disembarkation.

8 Day - Western Islands

itinerary map

PM:  Arrival at Baltra Island. This island is known for being inhabited only by military members. This island is home to one of our main airports on the Galapagos. Your guide will be waiting for you upon arrival. Transfer to Santa Cruz Island, crossing the Itabaca Chanel. Then, we take our private bus to Puerto Ayora. Once we arrive at Puerto Ayora, we will go directly to the Galaxy Yacht. After lunch, our first visit is to the Highlands of Santa Cruz, where we will go trekking and will find giant tortoises in their natural habitat, which is an amazing natural spectacle. For this visit, we recommend good walking shoes, long pants, a raincoat, hat, and sunblock. Return to Puerto Ayora. In the evening, there will be a welcome cocktail and a formal presentation of the crew by the captain. There will also be a briefing for the following day. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day One - Embarkation.

Moreno Point & Elizabeth Bay

AM:  Moreno Point is located on the north coast of Isabela Island between Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul Volcanoes. The main attractions at Punta Moreno are coastal lagoons amid black lava flows where there are several species of birds. It has a panoramic view of the three most active volcanoes in the Galapagos: The Sierra Negra, the Cerro Azul, and La Cumbre. Lunch.

PM:  This is one of the island’s breeding sites for penguins. Located along the west coast of Isabela, Elizabeth Point is a marine visitor site. Visit Red Mangrove Cove. Here you will spot brown pelicans, flightless cormorants, spotted eagle rays, golden rays, and sea lions. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day Two - Penguin Sighting.

Urbina Bay & Tagus Cove

AM:  Urbina Bay is located at the base of Alcedo Volcano, between Elizabeth Bay and Tagus Cove. Wet landing. Trail length is around 3.2km; during this walk, we will observe land iguanas, hawks, and tortoises. It is also possible to see red and blue lobsters. Lunch.

PM:  Tagus Cove is located to the west of Darwin Volcano on Isabela Island. While walking, we will find several inscriptions (names of pirates) dating back to the 1800s. From here, we can see Darwin Lake, a saltwater lake with a depth of approximately 9m. It is very common to see a variety of bird species. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day Three - Galapagos Islands.

Espinoza Point & Albemarle Point

AM:  Fernandina is the third largest island in the Galapagos and has only one visiting site: Espinoza Point, famous for the large colonies of marine iguanas and the home of the flightless cormorant, the Galapagos penguin, snakes, and more. From Espinoza Point, we can admire the beauty of Fernandina Island and its volcano, which last erupted in May of 2005. Fernandina is the only island that doesn’t have mammals, and the open areas are extremely fragile. January to June is the nesting period of the marine iguana, and as such we take great care while walking here. Return to Galaxy. Lunch.

PM:  Albemarle Point is located to the north of Isabela Island. This visiting site is composed of two visiting areas: the first, a mangrove area between lava flows Pahohoe (lava solidified in a wavy or of accordion) and that form coves and channels. This place is ideal for a panga ride. The second point of the visit is the old radar base left by Americans during World War II near the beach.

The marine iguanas of Punta Albermarle and West Isabela are the largest in the Archipelago. It is an ideal place for a panga ride, where you will find non-flying Cormorants, marine iguanas, seabirds, and various marine species. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day Four - Panga Ride.

Egas Port, Espumilla Beach & Buccaneer Cove

AM:  At Egas Port, we find a beautiful black sand beach; to the south of the beach is Pan de Azucar Volcano, whose volcanic deposits have contributed to the formation of the black sand beach. The crater of this volcano contains a saltwater lake that dries up during hot weather. Between 1928 and 1930, explorations to develop a salt mine were carried out, but it was decided that a mine was not feasible. The workers’ use of endemic woods also damaged the environment and the development was scrapped. Descent down into the salt mine is not allowed. Return to Galaxy. Lunch.

PM:  The main attractions this afternoon include Palo Santo wood, the beach, and the stunning landscape; the beach is a very important site for tortoises, as they use it for nesting. At one point, pigs were the main predators of tortoises’ eggs; thus, pigs were eradicated with the creation of the Isabela Project.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day Five - Giant Tortoise.

Dragon Hill & Black Turtle Cove

AM:  Dragon Hill visitor site is located in the northwestern region of Santa Cruz Island. It consists of a 1,600 m long trail running through 3 different environments. In 1975, it was one of the only places on Santa Cruz Island where healthy land iguanas could be found. That same year, the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Foundation initiated a program to conserve land iguanas. The lagoons found here contain shrimp, the food of choice of the flamingos. During certain times of the year, shrimp are more abundant, and therefore the flamingo population increases. Lunch.

PM:  After lunch, our first visit is to Black Turtle Cove, which is situated in the northern region of Santa Cruz. This bay is surrounded by mangroves and is accessible only by dinghy. The shallow cove is a safe refuge for marine life. Black-tip reef sharks, marine turtles, and a variety of rays are often spotted here. Dinner.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day Six - Reef Sharks Sighting.

Rabida Island & Chinese Hat Islet

AM:  The visitor site, located on the east coast of Rabida Island, consists of a red sand beach, a coastal lagoon behind the beach, and a loop trail approximately 1.1 km in length. The red color of the rocks and sand on the beach is due to the interaction of the very porous volcanic material with environmental factors. Rain, saltwater, and the sea breeze act as oxidizing agents creating a red color. The scenery, arid zone vegetation, and the presence of native and endemic species add to the beauty of this island. Lunch

PM:  A small islet located near the southeast coast of Santiago. It’s shaped like a Chinese hat when seen from afar. It is an island consisting of a cone type 'splatter' that forms the summit and many lava tubes that run down to the coast. On the west side, you can see pillow-type lava formations, which are an indicator that the flows were formed under the sea and have raised upward, and therefore coral heads are found on the lava. This visit provides an excellent opportunity for the interpretation of geological features, such as lava tubes and lava flows. The trail is 700 m (round trip) and the minimum time it takes for this trek is 30 minutes.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day Seven - Rabida Island Excursion.

AM:  Dry landing. Seymour was formed by the lifting of volcanic marine lava. Marine fossils dating back to the Pleistocene period are found on this island. In 1932, Captain Alan Hancock and his crew took 72 malnourished land iguanas from Baltra Island to North Seymour Island so that the iguanas could live in better conditions. In 1934, colonists verified that the iguanas were in good condition. The vegetation of North Seymour is bushy and is host to nesting Real Frigate birds of the Galapagos.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary D Day Eight - Disembarkation.

8 Day - Northern & Southern Islands E+A

itinerary map

AM:  Dry landing, activities: hiking. Also known as Prince Phillip's Steps. Here, we will take a walk along the Barranco path. During our journey, we will observe tropical birds, petrels, common frigate birds, red-foot boobies, masked boobies, doves, and finches. Return to Galaxy. Lunch

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary F Day Three - Frigate Bird.

Interpretation Center & Lobos Island

PM : Panga ride, swimming, and snorkeling at Lobos Island. Here, we can walk, swim and snorkel among the seals, frigate birds, marine iguanas, lava lizards, and the small endemic Galapagos snake.

Galaxy’s 8-Day Itinerary F Day Four - Panga Ride.

Positive Customer Review: "One of the most memorable parts for me was the launch. I went with my wife, and Benetti had a Roman Catholic priest bless the yacht. It was very beautiful with all the Italian music and then the British national anthem, and it was all very unexpected. I thought I was just going to be putting the boat in the water, but in fact it turned into a very emotional day!" - Owner of a Benetti called motor yacht 11:11

The 184-foot Benetti Galaxy has one of the wildest interiors ever on any superyacht

The worlds of the desert festival, Burning Man, and superyachting may not seem like a natural fit, but the owners and designers of 184-foot Galaxy successfully made those worlds collide—and, in the process, showed how yacht design can be a lot more creative, and fast.

The five-month refit of Galaxy —a 2005 Benetti —was not only unusually speedy for a superyacht, but signals the emergence of a new kind of yachting, a clean-slate design that gave the owners the fantasyland interior that they wanted. Typically, most interior refits involve only cosmetic changes, and from the exterior, Galaxy looks almost painfully cookie-cutter. But inside, the bold, bespoke look may inspire others to follow their wildest dreams, rather than staying safe with a conventional design.

Njord by Bergman Design House created the eclectic interior. The refit was done by Monaco Marine and GM Group at the La Ciotat yard in France. “ Galaxy isn’t just another white superyacht on the French Riviera,” says Sarah Colbon, co-founder of the London-based design firm. “The yacht is its own out-of-world destination that touches all your senses and excites and embraces you with its energy.”

Burning Man is an annual gathering that takes place in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. It’s a mix of art, music and free expression that embraces individual creativity, no matter what that looks like. And it can look pretty wild. At the end of the festival is the ritual burning of “The Man,” a tall effigy made of wood. Galaxy ‘s owners, a leading American video-games developer and his partner, are frequent attendees. They were inspired by the festival and a love of entertaining, says Colbon, to create an “alternate universe.”

The expansive main deck has been transformed into a giant “floating private member’s club,” with bespoke décor and alternatively moody and brightly colored artwork. “The Thinker” by contemporary artist Joseph Klibansky reimagines Rodin’s classic sculpture as an astronaut, and there are also paintings by Camille Hannah and wall coverings by digital artist Dylan Cole, known for Disney’s Avatar and Maleficent .

The wallpaper is Cole’s first static project. “He’s never done this before, but he appreciated the concept of Galaxy and loved the sound of the owners,” says Colbon. “So he agreed to create the owners’ own Avatar world onboard.” If you look closely, you’ll spot secret creatures and “ET” aliens hidden in the otherworldly scenes that Cole created.

The upper deck is all about calmness and serenity. Even the floors are designed to stimulate feel-good endorphins.  Courtesy Njord by Bergman

While the main deck is a nightclub that would look right at home on some alien world, the upper deck is designed for the opposite effect. It features a lounge and dining space for 12 guests which is “super calm,” according to the designer.

“What’s wonderful about Galaxy is you can switch it on and off,” says Colbon. “You can go from the ultimate club space with RGB lighting, party vibes and a DJ stand, to the serene upper deck where you can connect with your senses.”

When they’re done for the day, guests can retire to suites which have been named and styled after other planets. “We’ve designed Venus and Saturn with beautiful light pearls and golds, while Mars has these striking earthy red tones,” says Colbon. “Rather than being gimmicky, we’ve respected the colors and sensibilities of the planets.”

The digital-art ceiling and mural behind the bed by Dylan Cole (one of the artists on the Disney movie “Avatar”) re-create the owners’ star signs and their favorite constellation.  Courtesy Njord by Bergman

The master suite is even more bespoke: The bed’s headboard is designed with a metal bronze effect with tiny LED lights that create a star-gazing platform. The owners’ star signs also come through as the brighter lights, while their friends’ star signs are dimmer lights. On the ceiling is the owners’ favorite constellation.

The centerpieces of the yacht are the stairwell and elevator areas, hand-painted with an ombre, galaxy-toned effect.

Galaxy is filled with special features, including adjustable RGB lighting and smart materials like a specially engineered flooring. Colbon says that’s a world first for a superyacht. “The tight ripple effect stimulates the nerve endings on your feet when you walk on it and triggers endorphins to make you super relaxed,” she says. “It also looks like the ocean with tiny waves crashing on top of each other.”

Bespoke lounges, tables and sculptures are part of Galaxy ‘s unique vibe.  Courtesy Njord by Bergman

The crew thought it was crazy to use this surface as flooring, says Colbon. “But they understand now.”

The five-month turnaround also seemed like a stretch, especially since it included a full exterior paint job, new name plates and a spa. And then there was the fantastical interior.

“This yacht shows how design can be done differently in every way,” says Colbon. “It ranges from a new type of owner to the ways that collaborations between the designers and yard can actually change the whole refit process. I think Galaxy is going to really shine.”

Motor Yacht

Motor yacht Galaxy is a smart and sleek luxury superyacht built in 2005 by Italian shipyard Benetti. With a steel hull designed in-house and aluminium superstructure, she features exterior design and interior layout by Stefano Natucci. This attractive vessel measures 56 metres and can accommodate up to 12 guests. The actual interior decoration was completed by the owner’s personal designer who has also completed projects in his Melbourne and Los Angeles homes.

Galaxy is the very first superyacht to be produced by Benetti’s new shipyard Livorno and was specifically designed to accommodate the Australian owner’s family but is also available for selective charter. One of her defining design features is the use of exotic woods in her interior stylings, using oak, eucalyptus, sycamore, ash, pear, and Burma teak parquet to furnish her interior.

The luxury motor yacht received her name from Valentina Tei, the daughter of Roberto Tei, the longest-serving worker of Benetti’s newly re-christened custom yacht complex. The vessel is both Lloyd’s and MCA classified and is powered by twin 1,850 horsepower Caterpillars.

Passengers board the motor yacht by a hydraulically-activated ladder on starboard to the generous aft deck where a large built-in sofa dominates the area. Her Flying Bridge, the design of the owner, is arguably one of the yacht’s greatest features which aside from a Sun deck with five sunning lounges includes a bar area, dining and snack table serviced by dumbwaiter and all this is convertible into a helipad.

The dining table is generous enough to seat 12 at once and is situated under the permanent Bimini Sat-Nav top. From here, guests have direct access to the extensive gym and teak plank-line Jacuzzi whirlpool protected by Plexiglas wind screens.

Featuring a dedicated crew and a wide range of onboard facilities and water toys, Galaxy is also an excellent charter yacht. The luxury yacht cruises comfortably at 14 knots while a crew of 13 ensures the needs of charter guests are met.

Amongst her six cabins are two double staterooms and two twin cabins on the lower deck; a VIP stateroom on the upper deck; and luxury owner’s suite on the main deck with en suite Jacuzzi and VIP office. The owner’s suite is split over two levels, the main deck offering an office, and his and hers baths and dressing areas. The owner’s salon is forward and raised half a deck.

Boasting a full range of exciting entertainment options, Galaxy features a wine cellar, gym, Jacuzzi, and an all-level elevator among her extensive list of amenities. You will also find onboard an upper deck Sky Lounge with 180-degree views, gaming tables and bar, and an indoor cinema.

The luxury motor yacht is equipped with an entire armada of water toys to provide endless hours of entertainment during any yacht charter. Water toys sail boats, kayaks, a windsurfer, wave runners, skis, and snorkel gear. For entertainment back on the yacht deck, Galaxy carries Satellite TV, and a book, DVD and CD library.

The yacht sails the Mediterranean, both East and West in the summer months.

ITINERARY A

Day 1 SATURDAY: BALTRA ISLAND – SANTA CRUZ: HIGHLANDS

Arrive on Baltra Island. This island is known to be inhabited by militaries only. On this island is located one of our mains Galapagos airports. Once you arrive your guide will be waiting for you. Transfer to Santa Cruz Island, we cross the Itabaca Chanel (from airport to this place is around 15 minutes), after this, we take our private bus to Puerto Ayora. Once we arrive in Puerto Ayora, we will go direct to Galaxy Yacht: cabin accommodation and take lunch. After lunch, our first visit is HIGHLANDS OF SANTA CRUZ,where we will trek and will find the giant tortoises in their natural habitat. For this visit, we recommend using sport shoes, long pants, a raincoat, hut, and sunblock.     Back to Puerto Ayora. At the night we have a welcome cocktail and the formal presentation of our crew by Capitan. Briefing for the next day.

Day 2 SUNDAY: ISABELA ISLAND

TINTORERAS:  Located in the bay of Puerto Villamil, this small island surrounded by calm turquoise waters has an easy trail with great landscapes and very interesting fauna. Along the trail, we will see large numbers of Marine Iguanas basking in the sun, lava lizards, herons, gulls, and sea lions. In the coves, it is easy to find Sea Turtles, rays, and even Penguins. Among the many cracks and channels in the coast sometimes we can see White-tipped Reef Sharks (in Spanish “Tintoreras”). After the visit, we will return to the boat to have breakfast and begin the navigation to the next point.

PM MORENO POINT.  After lunch, we will disembark in Moreno Point which is located near Elizabeth Bay on the west coast of Isabela Island. The plethora of birds seen during a dinghy ride along the striking rocky shores or a hike along the path through lava rock leading to tide pools and mangroves create a birdwatcher’s delight. In the tide pools, green sea turtles or white-tip sharks can be spotted.

Day 3 MONDAY: ISABELA ISLAND

ELIZABETH BAY This is one of the island’s breeding sites for penguins. Located on the west coast of Isabela, Elizabeth Point is a marine visitor site. Visit red mangrove cove: Brown pelicans, flightless cormorants, spotted eagle rays, golden rays, and sea lions are often seen. Lunch E35K08

URBINA BAY: This place is located at the base of Alcedo Volcano between Elizabeth Bay and Tagus Cove. Wet landing. The trail length is around 3.20 Km; during this walk, we can observe land iguanas, hawks, tortoises; also it is possible to see red and blue lobsters.

Day 4 TUESDAY: ISABELA ISLAND & FERNANDINA

ISABELA ISLAND: TAGUS COVE:  It is located at west of Darwin Volcano in Isabela Island. During our walk, we will find several inscriptions (names of boat’s pirates) since 1800. Tagus Cove's name has its origin of an England ship that crossed the island looking for Galapagos tortoise to feed the crew. From this area, we can admire Darwin Lake which has saltwater and its deep is 9metes approximately, there are no fish. It is very easy to see different species of birds. Lunch

FERNANDINA ISLAND – ESPINOZA POINT:  Fernandina is the 3 rd  island bigger of Galapagos and has just one visit place: Espinoza Point.

Espinoza Point is a famous site because you will find big colonies of marine iguanas and it is a unique place where the flightless Cormorant lives, Galapagos penguin, hawk, snakes of Galapagos, and many others. From Espinoza Point, we can admire Fernandina Island and its volcano which last eruption was on May 2005.

Fernandina is the only island that doesn’t have any mammals introduced and the open areas are very fragile. During the nesting time of marine iguanas (January to June) we must take care when we are walking. Return to Galaxy.

Day 5 WEDNESDAY: SANTIAGO ISLAND

SANTIAGO ISLAND: EGAS PORT:  At this site, we find a black sand beach; at the south of this beach there is a volcano called Pan de Azucar, it has volcanic deposits which have contributed to the formation of this black sand beach.

The crater of this volcano has a salt lake which in warm time becomes dry and it is possible to appreciate a salt mine. Between 1928 and 1930 there were some explorations to this mine but they didn’t function; additionally, it caused damages to the environment because workers used endemic woods. It is not allowed to go down to salt mine.

Lunch on Boat

SANTIAGO ISLAND: ESPUMILLA BEACH & CALETA BUCANERO:  One of the main attractions of this site is a Palo Santo wood, the beach, and landscape; the beach is a very important site for tortoises because they use this place for nesting.

Once time, the pigs were the main predatory of tortoise’s eggs; pigs were eradicated with the creation of Isabela Project.

DAY 6 THURSDAY: DAPHNE MAYOR OR DRAGON HILL – SANTA CRUZ ISLAND: BLACK TURTLE COVE

DAPHNE MAYOR:  is a volcanic tuff cone, formed by successive explosions produced by the mixture of lava and water. The Galaxy will navigate around the Island.

OR DRAGON HILL:  The visitor’s site at Dragon Hill is located in northwestern Santa Cruz Island, and consists of a trail that runs through three different environments at just 1,600 m long.

It gets its name because in 1975, was one of the only places in Santa Cruz Island where there were land iguanas (Conolophus subcristatus) in a healthy state. That same year, the Galapagos National Park and the Charles Darwin Foundation initiated a program to conserve land iguanas. In the lagoons at this site, there is shrimp (Artemia salina), the same as is the food of flamingos; at certain times of the year they are more abundant and therefore the population of these birds is larger.

BLACK TURTLE COVE:  Welcome on board. After lunch, our first visit is to Black Turtle Cove which is situated in the northern of Santa Cruz. This bay is surrounded by mangroves and is accessible by dinghy only. The superficial cove is a safe refuge for marine life. Black-tip reef sharks, marine turtles, and a variety of rays are often spotted here.

Day 7 FRIDAY: RABIDA ISLAND – CHINESE HAT

RABIDA ISLAND:  The visitor site is located on the east coast of Rabida Island, consisting of a red sand beach, a coastal lagoon behind the beach, and a loop trail. The approximate distance of the trail is 1.1 kilometers.

The color of the rocks and sand on the beach is due to the very porous volcanic material, which with the help of environmental factors (rain, saltwater, and sea breeze, has acted as an oxidizing agent. The main attraction of the place is the red sand beach, scenery, aside from the vegetation of the arid zone and the presence of native and endemic species.

CHINESE HAT:  A small islet located near the south-east coast of Santiago. It’s shaped like a Chinese hat when seen from afar. It is an island consisting of a cone type “Splatter” (lava ejected as drops and falls close to where it came from, which forms a cone inclined) that forms the summit and many lava tubes that go down to the coast.

On the west you can see pillow-type lava formations, which are an indicator that the flows were formed under the sea and have been raised upward, which is why coral heads are found on the lava. This visit provides an excellent opportunity for the interpretation of geological features such as lava tubes and lava flows.

The trail is 700 m (round trip) and the minimum time it takes this trek is half an hour.

Day 8 SATURDAY: NORTH SEYMOUR ISLAND – MOSQUERA ISLET

NORTH SEYMOUR:  This Island was formed by the lifting of volcanic marine lava. Marine fossils were found on this island; the fossil dates from Pleistocene.

In 1932 the Capitan Alan Hancock and his crew took 72 land iguanas from Baltra Island and the iguanas were introduced in North Seymour Island; the reason for this change was that the iguanas could live in better conditions than in Baltra. The crew of Capitan Hancock found malnourished iguanas in Baltra; in 1934 colonizing people verified that the iguanas were in good conditions. Transfer to the airport.

What yachting industry insiders have to say about Jeff Bezos' superyacht

  • Jeff Bezos' yacht , which reportedly cost $500 million to build, completed its first year at sea.
  • The superyacht, Koru, was a frequent topic of conversation at the Palm Beach boat show.
  • Here's what industry insiders think about the vessel.

Insider Today

It's been just about a year since Koru, Jeff Bezos ' $500 million megayacht, set sail from the Oceanco shipyard in the Netherlands, capturing the attention of yachting insiders and land dwellers alike.

Even after her first season at sea, the 127-meter ship is still one of the most talked about vessels among those in the know — and not just for the busty figurehead on its prow, which many have wrongly speculated is based on Bezos's fiancée . Koru was a hot topic at the annual Palm Beach International Boat Show, where the yachts of other billionaires were on display for sale or charter.

The overwhelming response from those Business Insider spoke to was awe, with many praising her unique design, commenting on her immense size, or remarking that they'd been lucky enough to see her up close.

"It's absolutely beautiful," said Federico Rossi, the COO of luxury yachtbuilder Rossinavi.

Still, due to the small size of the industry — and the fact that privacy is paramount in the yachting community — even those who complimented Koru mostly did not want to go on record in order to protect professional relationships.

"That thing's amazing," one such superyacht expert told BI. "It's very well done in terms of craftsmanship."

Unlike many other megayachts, Koru, which media billionaire Barry Diller's Eos inspired, is designed as a sailing yacht. That bucks the current trend of more severe-looking explorer boats — though Koru's 75-meter support vessel Abeona is of a more typical style,

"I heard back in 2018 or something that somebody had ordered a classic sailing yacht," the superyacht expert also told BI. "You order 125 meters, that's not really going to be classic. But it is. I think it's pretty cool."

Like most other megayachts, Koru is powered by her engines, which are reportedly innovative in their use of a kinetic energy recovery system. Industry experts, therefore, pointed out that her sails are more for looks than anything else — but that still works in her favor, with many praising her overall aesthetic appeal.

Related stories

"It's stunning," added a captain who has worked on several megayachts. He said he'd seen Koru in St. Barts, a favorite spot of Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez , over the holidays.

"There are definitely uglier boats out there," one yacht architect said. "It's not like it's shaped like his rocket," he jokily added, referring to the phallic design of Blue Origin's New Shephard .

Some, though, think the yacht is a bit excessive — which is saying something in a world where bigger is better and $250 million is a normal amount to spend.

"That's over the top. That's an insanely ridiculous boat," a longtime broker who favors discretion said. It's a "whole big show."

And the expert who praised the yacht's craftsmanship balanced his admiring comments by saying Koru's liberal use of teak — a wood traditionally used for yacht decks — was "bizarre."

The material has gained a bad reputation in the industry in recent years, as it typically comes from Myanmar, a country with a checkered human rights record. Plus, it takes a long time to grow, leading to deforestation.

Many shipyards have now turned to alternatives, like bamboo or plantation-grown teak, in their pushes toward sustainability. Bezos' team did not respond to BI's question about the origin of the deck's wood.

Teak or not, the yachting industry isn't generally known for being all that environmentally friendly — or indeed lowkey, so many who BI talked to didn't buy into the idea that Koru is "too much."

"If this is genuinely Jeff's dream come true, then great," Anders Kurtén, the CEO of brokerage Fraser Yachts, said. "I'm genuinely happy for him, and I'm happy for the people who got the opportunity to have employment to work on that."

And Bezos, of course, isn't the only billionaire with a stunning yacht . Billionaires like Jerry Jones and Bernard Arnault have also, at times, turned heads with their boats.

Most recently, insiders have tied Mark Zuckerberg to a 118-meter ship named Launchpad . It's the latest superyacht to capture the yachting world's attention.

So, as she sets sail for her debut summer season, Launchpad may take Koru's place as the main yacht on everyone's radar this year.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

galaxy yacht costo

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.

Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. has been named as a co-defendant in a lawsuit brought against embattled hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

The lawsuit, which was brought in February by Diddy’s “Love Album” producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, was amended Monday to list Gooding as a defendant, as well as to include a declaration from former Motown Records chief executive Ethiopia Habtemariam about technical license agreements and to insert additional evidence to the RICO and sex-trafficking section of the lawsuit, Jones’ lawyer Tyrone Blackburn confirmed Tuesday in an e-mail to The Times.

Diddy’s ‘Love’ producer Lil Rod accuses him and associates of sexual assault, illicit behavior

Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones has filed a bombshell lawsuit against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs accusing the media mogul of sexually harassing and threatening him.

Feb. 27, 2024

The second amended complaint was filed Monday, the same day that Homeland Security Investigations conducted bicoastal raids on mansions owned by Combs in Holmby Hills and Miami. Federal agents conducted the searches as part of an inquiry into sex trafficking allegations involving the hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur, law enforcement sources said. Aaron Dyer, an attorney for Combs, on Tuesday called the raid an “unprecedented ambush” that “leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.” Dyer added that Combs cooperated with authorities, “is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”

Blackburn, Jones’ attorney, said he has not been contacted by federal authorities regarding the Homeland Security investigation.

“Defendant Cuba Gooding, Jr. was a relevant actor who has fallen from grace due to several sexual assault lawsuits and a recent guilty plea for sexual assault,” said the complaint, which was obtained Tuesday by The Times. In it, Blackburn noted that his client — a Chicago-born producer, who produced nine songs on Diddy’s 2023 album — believed Combs “was grooming him to pass him off to his friends” and that “fear became reality” when Combs introduced him to Gooding on his yacht in January 2023.

Jones accused Gooding of fondling his “legs, upper inner thighs near his groin, the small of his back near his buttocks, and his shoulders,” which made the producer “extremely uncomfortable.” Although he allegedly rejected the actor’s advances, Gooding “did not stop until Mr. Jones forcibly pushed him away.”

“As the owner of the property, Mr. Combs had a duty to protect Mr. Jones from the harm he suffered at the hands of Cuba Gooding Jr. Mr. Combs breached his duty when he failed to stop Cuba Gooding Jr from sexually assaulting Mr. Jones,” the complaint said. “In furtherance of this breach, Mr. Combs encouraged Cuba Gooding Jr to continue his assault on Mr. Jones when he said that Cuba Gooding Jr should privately get to know Mr. Jones better. Mr. Jones has suffered immensely because of Mr. Combs’s intentional breach of his duty to him.”

Representatives for Gooding did not immediately respond Tuesday to The Times’ request for comment.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces sweeping sex-trafficking inquiry: What the feds have, need to prove

Legal experts say it could take time to build a criminal case against the hip-hop mogul but note that civil lawsuits against him could offer investigators a road map.

March 26, 2024

Gooding, 56, who has separately pleaded guilty to forcible touching and settled a rape lawsuit last year ., was mentioned in Jones’ initial lawsuit — filed in U.S District Court for the Southern District of New York — with Jones alleging that he was sexually harassed and assaulted by the “Jerry Maguire” star.

The “American Horror Story” actor joins a list of co-defendants in the $30-million lawsuit that includes Combs, his son Justin Dior Combs, Universal Music Group chief executive Lucian Charles Grainge, UMG, former Motown Records executive Habtemariam and Motown Records, Love Records, Combs Global Enterprises, ABC Corporations, Diddy’s chief of staff Kristina “KK” Khorram and several John and Jane Does. That network of alleged involvement, Jones said, amounts to a violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

In the 105-page complaint, Blackburn said that Jones’ “life has been detrimentally impacted ever since” he agreed to produce the album in August 2022. Jones alleged that he was “under an implied work-for-hire agreement” with Combs and lived with the recording giant for months at a time in Combs’ homes in Los Angeles, New York City and Miami, as well as several weeks on a yacht rented by Combs in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Jones, describing himself as a “heterosexual Christian man,” alleged in the lawsuit that he was “the victim of constant unsolicited and unauthorized groping and touching of his anus by Mr. Combs” and was “uncomfortable with Mr. Combs’ advances.” He expressed his complaints to Khorram, who allegedly told him “you know, Sean will be Sean” in response, the document said. Blackburn described Khorram as “the Ghislaine Maxwell to Sean Combs Jeffrey Epstein.”

Multi-instrumentalist Jones said that he had “secured irrefutable evidence” of illicit activity, including Combs providing laced alcoholic beverages to minors and sex workers at his homes and the rapper’s acquisition, use and distribution of ecstasy, cocaine, GHB, ketamine, marijuana and mushrooms, as well as displaying and distribution of unregistered illegal firearms. He also alleged that Combs gave him “strict instructions to inform the police that [Combs] had nothing to do with” a shooting at Chalice Recording Studio in Los Angeles on Sept. 12, 2022, even though Jones believed otherwise.

Jones also alleged that he was sexually assaulted by a cousin or assistant of rapper Yung Miami, who has dated Diddy and claimed that he obtained footage of a rapper and an R&B singer (whose names have been redacted from the complaint) consorting with underage girls and sex workers.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sexual harassment suit includes notable music industry names

A new suit from music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones makes new, explosive claims about Combs’ alleged assaults and misconduct in granular detail, naming several prominent artists and music executives as well.

Feb. 28, 2024

Britain’s Prince Harry was also mentioned in the complaint, as he had been when it was originally filed last month. Although no allegation of wrongdoing on his part was made, the prince was referred to in a section about why Grainge “ignored the numerous red flags about Mr. Combs ... to receive financial benefits from Mr. Combs and his sex trafficking venture.” (Sex abuse and sex trafficking claims have dogged Combs over the past year, beginning with a November lawsuit brought by ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura that was filed and settled within days .)

“Before Cassie Ventura’s lawsuit was filed, Mr. Combs was a popular and highly influential figure in the music industry to whom everyone wanted to connect. Mr. Combs was known for throwing the ‘best’ parties. Affiliation with and/or general business partnerships with Mr. Combs garnered legitimacy, immense success, and access to top and emerging artists, celebrities, famous athletes, political figures, musicians, and international dignitaries like British Royal and Prince Harry.”

Grainge, the complaint said, “knew first-hand the power, influence, and effect attaching themselves to Mr. Combs would have on their bottom-line and, as evidenced by their repeated general business partnership agreements ... profited from their affiliation with Mr. Combs and their general business partnership, which came with unmonitored financing that may have supported his sex-trafficking enterprise.”

In a Tuesday statement to The Times, an attorney for Universal Music Group and Grainge characterized Jones’ complaint as “offensively reckless” and said Grainge has been “improperly dragged into this matter despite having no knowledge of, nor any involvement in, any of Mr. Combs’ alleged conduct.”

“Further, after we advised Plaintiff’s counsel of the offensive falsity of the absurd claims, instead of dismissing the claims, as they should have done, the plaintiff has now attempted to amend his claims against Sir Lucian, removing the original set of outrageous falsehoods related to Sir Lucian, replacing them with wholly contradictory new falsehoods that are equally absurd,” said Donald S. Zakarin of Los Angeles-based firm Pryor Cashman LLP. “Not only will we demonstrate the offensive falsity of these claims, but we will seek recovery of every penny of cost and damage caused by their assertion.”

Times staff writer Richard Winton contributed to this report.

An eclipse-themed treat: Sonic's new Blackout Slush Float available starting today

Sonic will also be handing out free solar eclipse viewing glasses with every purchase of the blackout slush float. the solar eclipse is on april 8..

galaxy yacht costo

Starting today, Sonic Drive-In has a new limited-edition drink available called the Blackout Slush Float to give fans an "out-of-this world experience" just in time for the extremely rare total solar eclipse .

Customers can order the new Blackout Slush Float nationwide at participating locations starting March 25 until May 5. Sonic will also be handing out free solar eclipse viewing glasses with every purchase of the new treat, while supplies last, to ensure their customers can "safely watch the eclipse and create fun memories."

The new drink includes flavors of cotton candy and dragon fruit, according to Sonic, with the all-black slush representing the temporary darkness from the solar eclipse and is topped with white soft serve and blue and purple galaxy themed sprinkles.

Sonic says the eclipse viewing glasses have been approved for short term direct observation of the sun by the International Organization for Standardization and have been lab tested to ensure they are safe and meet all applicable rules and regulations.

The fast-food chain is also offering $1.99 Crispy Tender Wraps in Hickory BBQ from March 4 to May 5 for those looking to grab an inexpensive snack with their Blackout Slush Float.

There are more than 400 Sonic locations within the path of the eclipse's totality. Sonic also invites guests to head to their local Sonic location to watch the eclipse while enjoying their Blackout Slush.

A total eclipse is near. For some, it's evidence of higher power. For others it's a warning

What is a solar eclipse?

Any celestial object like a moon or a planet that passes between two other bodies can create an eclipse by obscuring the view of objects like the sun.

A total eclipse occurs when the moon appears as the same size as the sun and blocks the entire disk from Earth, leading to a period of darkness lasting several minutes. The resulting "totality," whereby observers can see the outmost layer of the sun's atmosphere known as the corona, confuses animals – causing nocturnal creatures to stir and bird and insects to fall silent.

When and where to see the April 8 total solar eclipse

On April 8, the potentially once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse will chart a 115-mile-wide path of totality across portions of Mexico the United States and Canada.

In the U.S. alone, hundreds of cities and smaller towns in 13 states lie along the path . An estimated 31 million Americans already live on the path, while millions more tourists are already making travel plans – sure to snarl traffic – to catch a glimpse of what is sure to be a spectacular sight, according to eclipse cartographer Michael Zeiler at GreatAmericanEclipse.com .

Mexico's Pacific coast will be the first location in continental North America to experience totality, which will occur at about 11:07 a.m. PDT, according to NASA .

As the moon's shadow travels northeast, totality in the U.S. will begin at 1:27 p.m. CDT in Eagle Pass, Texas. From there, the path will cut diagonally across the country before ending it's time in the U.S. around 3:33 p.m. EDT in Lee, Maine and entering Canada's maritime provinces, according to nationaleclipse.com .

Along the way, periods of darkness could last a mere few seconds or, in some cities, could surpass four minutes. And as if the dazzling solar eclipse won't be enough, there's a small chance that the horned "devil comet" may make an appearance that same day as it makes its closest orbital approach to Earth later in the month.

If you want to see the time and duration for when totality would occur near each of these locations, see these interactive maps .

Why is this year's total solar eclipse special?

The last time North Americans witnessed a total solar eclipse in 2017, the sun's activity was at a minimum.

This time around, though, the sun will be at the peak activity of an 11-year solar cycle, making its elusive corona especially visible , astronomers say.

Meanwhile, the moon will be closer to Earth than it was seven years ago, making it appear larger in the sky and increasing the length that darkness will last in many places, according to eclipse2024.org .
