RECREATION NAGA WI CKA LAKE DELAFIELD WISCONSIN

Delafield’s many outdoor activities converge at Nagawicka Lake. It’s a 981-acre lake with a maximum depth of 90 feet, giving visitors opportunities to boat, swim, and fish. Native fish include Panfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike and Walleye.

The Nagawicka Lake Yacht Club  was established in 1895 exclusively for sailboats. Based on the shore of Nagawicka Lake in Delafield, Wisconsin has a quaint lake-side club house. The club has an active membership that are involved in sailing for pleasure and competition, with a racing program that has over 80 races scheduled each season. Our club races OPTI, X Boat, 420's, MC Scow, C Scow and E Scow. A range of instructional programs are offered to both adults and children and for the experienced or novice sailor. The atmosphere is friendly and informal. Today, the fine facilities, excellent racing program, and frequent club social activities combine to offer a wholesome family experience.

Boats can be launched onto Nagawicka Lake from Naga-Waukee County Park located on Highway 83. There is a park sticker or entrance fee to the park. Check with the link below for more information about how to purchase the annual sticker.

Bartolotta Aims to Revitalize Historic Site

The Commodore, a restaurant and catering venue on Nagawicka Lake in Hartland, is planned to open next summer.

The Bartolotta Restaurants , a Milwaukee hospitality group, is set to expand its portfolio with a new restaurant and catering venue, The Commodore , at 1807 Nagawicka Rd. in Hartland.

Developed in partnership with David Herro and Jay Franke of HF Hospitality Group, The Commodore would open in the former Seven Seas Seafood & Steak Restaurant , said a press release from the group.

“This 117-year-old building is a living time capsule of Nagawicka Lake and the Lake Country community surrounding it, and The Commodore – A Bartolotta Restaurant will serve as the bridge between the past we preserve and the future memories we will make,” said Paul Bartolotta , owner and co-founder (along with his late brother Joe Bartolotta ) of The Bartolotta Restaurants. “Together with our partners, David and Jay, we will bring new life to this building and create a dining experience that is truly unique to Lake Country and the Greater Milwaukee area.”

The venue, set to open next summer, in 2023, overlooks Nagawicka Lake, offering a view of the water and sunsets. The lake is a fishing destination and is mostly surrounded by residential homes.

A main-level dining room will have decor “inspired by the yacht clubs of the 1920s, while embracing modern Lake Country and its inviting, comfortable, and celebratory atmosphere,” a press release notes. Nagawicka Lake Yacht Club is located on the shoreline opposite The Commodore. The Commodore’s upper level will function as an event space to host large groups and gatherings.

“We are thrilled to partner with Bartolotta, given their reputation for innovative and high-quality dining experiences. It’s our plan to passionately rejuvenate this property, reflecting its legacy and importance in the community,” said a statement from Herro and Franke.

The Commodore joins a growing list of Bartolotta catering venues including Discovery World , Italian Community Center , The Grain Exchange and others.

Renovations are in progress at the site of the future venue. The Commodore will be the first Bartolotta-owned location in Waukesha County since Mr. B’s Steakhouse opened in Brookfield in 1999.

The most recent occupants, Seven Seas Seafood & Steak Restaurant, closed in December, 2020 due to the pandemic. The space had an earlier proposal to reopen as a restaurant under the ownership of Saz’s Hospitality Group, but that never came to fruition. Around the same time, the Seven Seas building in Delafield sold to new owners for $4.5 million .

The Commodore isn’t Herro and Franke’s first project. In 2021, the two partnered to redevelop a building at 5th Street and National Avenue, opening The George  and  Madcap Lounge event venues.

The Bartolotta group recently opened another lakeside establishment. Roundhouse at McKinley Marina , a concession stand on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, began operating in July. Like The Commodore, the Roundhouse also emerged from a move to preserve and revitalize a historic site.

Commodore's Message

Welcome to North Lake Yacht Club!

Welcome to the 70th year of the North Lake Yacht Club! I look forward to serving as commodore this year and eagerly await the mix of club socials, sailing, regattas, and all things water related slated for 2023.

I have been lucky to know North Lake, the North Lake Sailing School, and North Lake Yacht Club for as long as I can remember. From the early days of kinderpram sailing school and Pram Power at the Van Till’s to the NLSS moving to the NLYC grounds following the construction of our awesome facilities. From having to sail across the lake in my Opti to hang out at the Theisen’s to newfound sense of freedom that came with getting my boaters license when I turned 12. The list of experiences and memories go on and on. And I hope that you and your families have similar memories and continue to embrace all that the NLYC, NLSS and North Lake has to offer.

The sailing, club socials, fishing, and paddling events all offer a chance to engage with club members and make lifelong friends on and off the water. Participation and involvement are the keys to the Club’s success and where my family has been able to get the most out of our NLYC membership.

North Lake is blessed to have a beautiful clubhouse and grounds - the direct result of many members, past and current, with a commitment to furthering the NLYC’s mission. It takes many volunteer hours to maintain and improve the building and grounds, host events, produce this annual logbook, and manage the sailing schedule. We are lucky to have members offer their time and talents to make everything we do possible.

To all volunteers past, present, and future – thank you for all that you do to keep this special thing running. If you have new ideas or are looking to get more involved, do not hesitate to give me a call or hail me down on the water. I would be happy to talk!

If you take any photos you think should be included in next year’s Log Book, please submit them to [email protected]

Looking forward to seeing you on the water and at the clubhouse,

Noah Janssen
