AM: In the morning you will fly from mainland Ecuador to the Galapagos Islands. At the airport on San Cristobal Island, after you will pay the entrance fee to the national park, a member of the crew will welcome you and accompany you to your ship. After lunch and a security briefing, we will go on our first land-visit to Lobos Island, located across from San Cristobal Island. This is a seasonal nesting location for Blue-footed boobies and Frigate birds. You also can enjoy swimming and snorkeling with sea lions in the island’s calm bay.
PM: In the afternoon we will follow the route that Charles Darwin once took and sail around the massive tuff-rock called “Kicker Rock,” which is a nesting site for hosts of seabirds. Here, you will be able to find Blue-footed boobies, pelicans, and frigate birds. This is a great site for scuba diving, and hammerhead sharks can be seen in the area.
AM: In the morning we will visit Punta Pitt, on the eastern side of San Cristobal Island. Its 1.4 km-long path leads you through colonies of Frigate birds, Fork-tailed seagulls, Masked boobies, and Red- and Blue-footed boobies.
PM: Then we will visit Cerro Brujo, a fascinating lava hill located on the northeastern coast of San Cristobal Island. On the rocks, you can observe Blue-footed boobies, seagulls, and some pelicans. The protected bay is popular among young sea turtles and rays, and there are excellent swimming and snorkeling here.
AM: Today we will visit Floreana Island, considered to be one of the most exotic islands in the archipelago. There are countless legends that are part of the history of this island, as pirates and buccaneers were drawn to this island in search of for food and water. Later the island was colonized by Norwegians, Brits, and Germans, among others in search of a way to make money from what they hoped to discover here. The name Floreana is in honor of Juan Jose Flores, Ecuador’s first president. On the island, we will visit Post Office Bay where the legendary post barrel that whalers historically used to put their mail in is still kept. You can leave a letter here in hopes that it will make to its destination via another tourist. So, don’t forget to bring postcards along.
PM: This afternoon’s excursion is to the Cormorant Point visitor site. After a wet landing on the beach, we will go down a 100-meter-long path to a mangrove lagoon, which is home to Galapagos ducks, black herons, oystercatchers, and plovers. With a little bit of luck, you can also see flamingos. Another path leads to a small beach that is an important nesting site for sea turtles. In the shallow water here, one can often find stingrays and Whitetip reef sharks now and then. Later, you will be able to take advantage of the great snorkeling opportunities at “Devil’s Crown” (Corona del Diablo), a broken volcanic cone that is one of the most beautiful places for snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands. The underwater world here includes reef sharks, starfish, sea turtles, sea lions and a host of tropical fish species.
AM: Today we will visit Santa Cruz Island, the second largest of the Galapagos Islands and located in the center of the archipelago. Located there is Black Turtle Cove, a nesting site for sea turtles. There are a number of mangrove forests here as well. With luck, the calm water will allow you to see different types of sharks, ones like Whitetip reef sharks, or schools of golden mustard rays. Afterwards, we will take a bus to Itabaca Channel, which we will cross to reach the Baltra Island airport for your flight back to the mainland. Enjoy the last view of the “enchanted islands,” a unique paradise with fascinating natural highlights.

AM: In the morning, you will fly from the Ecuadorian mainland to Baltra Island, in the heart of Galapagos archipelago. Upon arriving at the airport, you will need to pay the national park entrance fee, which goes to protecting both the Galapagos National Park and Marine Reserve. A member of the crew will then welcome you and accompany you to your ship: the Ocean Spray motor vessel.
PM: Later, upon arriving on Bartolome Island, we will go up to a lookout point to admire the spectacular panorama of Sullivan Bay and the famous Pinnacle Rock. The beaches at the foot of the Pinnacle Rock boast some of the finest snorkeling in the islands. There, you can discover a marvelous underwater world and will have a good chance of finding gently gliding sea turtles. On the beaches beneath Pinnacle Rock, it’s quite possible to meet one of the quick-as-an-arrow Galapagos penguins; at around 25 centimeters tall, this is second smallest species of penguin in the world. Likewise, you’re likely to see harmless Whitetip reef sharks in these waters.
AM: Our destination for today is Genovesa Island, considered to be one of the wildest and most pristine islands in Galapagos National Park. Known as “Bird Island,” Genovesa is the only place where you will be able to see Red-footed boobies. After a wet landing at Genovesa Island’s Darwin Bay, we will walk along a short path that leads through the nesting sites of booby and frigatebird colonies. On the beach, you can observe the interesting spectacle of how frigate birds try to rob the prey of the different species of boobies.
PM: In the afternoon we will go ashore at a crater wall where Prince Phillip’s Steps are located. These stairs were carved in the stone wall and lead up to a wide plateau where you will find nesting places of great frigate birds, red-billed tropic birds, Bahama ducks, lava seagulls, and fork-tailed seagulls. During this easy stroll, we will cross a little scalesia wood where you can observe the short-eared owl. With a little bit of luck, you will also be able to observe the unique courtship carried out by various species of boobies (Red- and Blue-footed as well as masked boobies). It truly is a show. The same path will lead us back to your boat.
AM: This morning we will land on the fourth largest island in the Galapagos: Santiago Island, also known as “James Island” or “San Salvador Island.” The old rusted machines and run-down buildings of former salt mine workers are still apparent on the island, though the last attempts to populate Santiago Island were given up on forty years ago. We will visit Espumilla Beach, where marine iguanas relax and sea turtles nest. While snorkeling, you might find octopuses, morays and many types of tropical fish. There is also a Palo Santo forest close to this beach. From there we will go to Buccaneer Cove, which in the 18th and 19th centuries was a shelter for pirates, whalers, and sailors. The bay is surrounded by high tuff cliffs where many sea-bird nests. In the cliffs, you can try to find two rock formations that look like a monkey and an elephant.
PM: Later in the day, we will have a wet landing on the dark sand beach of Puerto Egas, where you can find an abundance of marine iguanas. After a short walk of about 2 km along the coast, we will reach the rugged lava coastline. On these shores are natural pools where you can find sea lions, herons and other seabirds. The surrounding area is also a good spot for observing colonies of red Sally Light Foot crabs, lava lizards, Galapagos buzzards and lava herons.
AM: After a dry landing on North Seymour Island, we will take a short walk along the coast. Here you will encounter Swallow-tailed gulls, sea lions, and Cliff crabs. This part of Seymour Island is also known for being a major nesting site for Blue-footed boobies and the largest colony of Magnificent frigatebirds, a species different from the Great frigatebird. We can also spot both of the endemic species of iguanas: marine iguanas and land iguanas. You will enjoy this relaxing hike around the nesting sites.
PM: After lunch, we will visit the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, where the lush landscape is a welcome contrast to the arid scenery of the smaller, lower islands. On the way, we will cross through different vegetation zones – from the dry lower region full of cactuses to the scalesia woods in the Highlands. There one can find two small agricultural communities that grow the famous organic Galapagos coffee. While in the Highlands you will have the option of visiting one of two tortoise breeding centers: El Chato or Rancho Las Primicias. At either site, approaching these enormous and slow-moving reptiles is always an inspiring adventure. The El Chato tortoise reserve allow visitors to observe the island’s huge Galapagos turtles and White herons in their natural habitat. You will also be able to walk through nearby underground lava tunnels formed during volcanic eruptions. Alternatively, Rancho Primicias is a great place to see about ten to fifteen Galapagos giant tortoises in the wild. In addition to being able to view the ocean from this location in the Highlands, you can walk through a lava cave that was formed by a volcanic eruption.
AM: Today we will anchor at Mosquera Island, which is located near Itabaca Channel and in between the Baltra and Seymour islands. The island consists of a long narrow stretch of white sand, rocks and small lagoons with large populations of sea lions. This is one of the best places to take photos of these aquatic mammals. A stroll down the beach also permits views of Brown pelicans and Blue-footed boobies.
A member of the crew will then welcome you and accompany you to your ship.
PM: After lunch, we will make a wet landing on Chinese Hat Island, located southeast of Santiago Island. Its name describes the shape of the island, which you will be able to appreciate from a distance. This island’s landscapes are dominated by volcanic formations and very fragile lava tubes lava. Because of this, it is very important to stay on the paths. Here you will encounter a small colony of sea lions and then proceed to hike through this dark, unyielding island of solid rock.
AM: This morning will take us to the largest landmass in the Galapagos archipelago: Isabela Island. With a surface of 1,770 sq. miles (4,588 sq. km.), the island constitutes more than the half of the land area of the entire Galapagos archipelago. Located at the “mouth” of the head of the seahorse which forms the northern part of Isabela Island is Punta Vicente Roca, an interesting rock formation. Here the remnants of an ancient volcano form two turquoise coves with a bay well-protected from the ocean swells. With a bit of luck, you can see penguins. Masked and Blue-footed boobies as well as pelicans sit perched along the point and the sheer cliffs, while flightless cormorants inhabit the shoreline.
PM: Next we will head for Fernandina Island, which is not only the westernmost island but also the youngest and most pristine island in the Galapagos. The 2005 eruption of La Cumbre Volcano created huge fields of lava. This eruption was followed on April 11, 2009, when the volcano flared up again, forming a cloud of ash and steam while hot lava flowed down the slopes of the volcano into the ocean. Nonetheless, an abundance of wildlife calls this island home, including the famous Flightless cormorants as well as penguins, pelicans, marine iguanas and sea lions. You can also find mangroves here on Fernandina Island. This afternoon we will visit Espinoza Point, one of Fernandina Island’s visitor points, is situated within fascinating scenery filled with lava cactuses and mangroves growing on the surface of the lava. Within this unique scenery, you will encounter numerous animals; the highlights being sea lions, penguins, Flightless cormorants (especially in the spring and summer), and one of the largest iguana colonies in the Galapagos Islands. On the small strip of land that constitutes Espinoza Point, you can find literally hundreds of marine iguanas, which gather in large groups.
AM: After breakfast and a dry landing, we will visit the notorious Tagus Cove, which was historically used as an anchoring place for pirates, buccaneers, and whalers. Around the deep blue bay, you can observe a large number of Blue-footed boobies perched on the ledges of the cliffs, as well as marine iguanas, penguins, brown pelicans, brown noddy terns and swallow-tailed gulls. A steep trail passes through an area of dry vegetation and volcanic landscapes with scalesia woods and cactuses.
PM: After lunch, we will visit Urbina Bay. As a result of an especially violent eruption of the Alcedo Volcano in 1954, large sections of the Isabela Island coast were suddenly pushed up about four meters high, making the coral reefs visible here. These reefs are covered with poison apple and muyuyo trees. You can also observe land iguanas and the rare mangrove finch up close. From January to June, land turtles occasionally visit the bay from their higher mountain living environments.
AM: Today we will head to the mangrove area of Elizabeth Bay and visit the small islands offshore. Here you can see dwarf penguins as well as schools of manta rays, turtles and other giants of the ocean – possibly even surfacing whale sharks. The mangrove woods are also home to various species of seabirds and herons.
PM: In the afternoon we will visit Moreno Point, a young volcanic landscape with numerous fresh-water pools and lagoons. You should be able to see flamingos, Bahama ducks and other birds here.
AM: Located on Santa Cruz Island, on the outskirts of Puerto Ayora, the Charles Darwin Research Station is primarily an international scientific research station and one of the most visited spots in the islands. Here you will be taken to the visitor center to read about the geology, climate, natural history and the conservation of the archipelago. The highlight of your visit will undoubtedly be the Fausto Llerena Tortoise Breeding Center, where giant tortoises are hatched and raised until they can be safely returned to their island homes.
PM: Then we will visit the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island. The lush landscape is a welcome contrast to the arid scenery of the smaller, lower islands. On the way, we will cross through different vegetation zones – from the dry lower region full of cactuses to the scalesia woods in the highlands. There are two small agricultural communities here which grow the famous organic Galapagos coffee.
AM: Today we will explore South Plaza Island, located east of Santa Cruz Island. On this life-filled island, you will encounter colonies of sea lions and land iguanas; while on the steep banks you can see numbers of birds like nesting Tropicbirds and Fork-tailed seagulls. But most of all, you will enjoy the extremely pleasurable experience and beautiful view from atop the steep banks or strolling along the base of the cliff. Opuntia cactuses grow on this island and the vegetation changes color throughout the year.
PM: Afterwards, we will take a bus to the San Cristobal Island airport for your flight back to the mainland. Enjoy the last view of the “enchanted islands,” a unique paradise with fascinating natural highlights.
PM: Next we will visit Santa Fe Island, a small rocky island covered in small Palo Santo trees and 6-meter-high opuntia cactuses. The island is inhabited mainly by large yellow land iguanas, the Galapagos buzzard, Blue-footed boobies, and pelicans. While snorkeling in the wonderful blue-green bay where the ship anchors, you can observe the many inhabitants of the underwater world, including countless tropical fish, rays, sea turtles and playful sea lions.
AM: Española is the southernmost and oldest island of the Galapagos archipelago. Its English name is “Hood Island,” in honor of the British admiral Samuel Hood. Because of its isolated position, there is much endemic wildlife to be explored here. It is also the only island where you will find albatrosses. After breakfast, we will go on an excursion to Suarez Point, one of the most outstanding wildlife areas in the archipelago and boasts a long list of species along its cliffs and sand or pebble beaches. In addition to five species of nesting seabirds, there are the curious and bold Española Island mockingbirds, Galapagos doves and Galapagos hawks found. This is also the only site where you will be able to see red iguanas. From May to December, albatrosses’ nest on the island, so you even might be able to see some of the little ones. Several types of reptiles are unique to this island, including the marine iguana and the oversized lava lizard. When heavy swells are running, Suárez Point is also the site of a spectacular blowhole, whose thundering spray shoots 30 yards up into the air. The trek here is on a stony path about a mile long. (Excursion duration: about 3 hours)
PM: On Española Island’s eastern shore, Gardner Bay is noted for its turquoise-colored waters and its magnificent beach, which we will visit in the afternoon. Around the bays small nearby islets, snorkelers will find an abundance of fish and sometimes turtles and benign sharks. The bay is also frequented by a transient colony of sea lions who love to swim with people. Birds, like the endemic Española mockingbird and different species of Darwin finches, are omnipresent. We will also ride around Osborn Islet, located close to Española Island. It is made of volcanic rock and is a popular fishing site among local small-scale fishers. On this Galapagos islet, you will have a chance to go snorkeling and see schools of tropical fish, Manta rays, Green turtles, Surgeon fish, Sea urchins, and starfish.
AM: At the port of Baquerizo Moreno, the capital of Ecuador’s Galapagos Province, we will visit the modern Interpretation Center on San Cristobal Island. There, you will learn about the natural and settlement history of the archipelago. Afterwards, we'll head to one of the main attractions of San Cristobal Island: The La Galapaguera Tortoise Breeding Center, where you will see enormous Galapagos tortoises, as well as iguanas. As the natural population of tortoises from San Cristobal Island is seriously threatened by animals introduced onto the island by humans – mainly wild goats, cats, and rats – the center is attempting to increase the number of tortoises as well as eradicate threatening species. Close to the center is an easy trail that covers a distance of 900 meters; along this trail, you will see different species of native and endemic plants of the Galapagos, like cat’s claw, manzanillo, romerillo, and acacia. Be careful not to touch or eat the manzanillo fruits as these are toxic. San Cristobal Island is also one of the few islands where you can see the plant calandrinia galapagosa, which is in danger of extinction.
PM: That same afternoon, we will visit Lobos Island, located across from San Cristobal Island. This is a seasonal nesting location for Blue-footed boobies and Frigate birds. You also can enjoy swimming and snorkeling with sea lions in the island’s calm bay. Ending the day, we will follow the route that Charles Darwin once took and sail around the massive tuff-rock called “Kicker Rock,” which is a nesting site for hosts of seabirds. AM: After a dry landing on North Seymour Island, we will take a short walk along the coast. Here you will encounter Swallow-tailed gulls, sea lions, and Cliff crabs. This part of Seymour Island is also known for being a major nesting site for Blue-footed boobies and the largest colony of Magnificent frigate birds, a species different from the Great frigate bird. We can also spot both of the endemic species of iguanas: marine iguanas and land iguanas. You will enjoy this relaxing hike around the nesting sites.
PM: We will then visit the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island, where the lush landscape is a welcome contrast to the arid scenery of the smaller, lower islands. The El Chato tortoise reserve was founded in 1964 to allow visitors to observe the island’s huge Galapagos turtles and White herons in their natural habitat. You will also be able to walk through nearby underground lava tunnels formed during volcanic eruptions. As the outside of the lava hardened, the inside continued to flow to the ocean, creating these tunnels. Alternatively, Rancho Primicias is a great place to see about ten to fifteen Galapagos giant tortoises in the wild. In addition to being able to view the ocean from this location in the Highlands, you can walk through a lava cave that was formed by a volcanic eruption.

The Ocean Spray’s speed, comfort, top of the line guides and hand-picked itineraries, make it the perfect choice for your luxury Galapagos cruise!
Cruise itineraries aboard the Ocean Spray range from a 4-day introduction to the Galapagos to a 15-day mega cruise where you’ll thoroughly explore the best the Galapagos has to offer.
With a Quality Control Manager on board, you are sure to have the ultimate Galapagos luxury cruise experience. The Chef and Sous Chef take care of anything food-related and will prepare the most delicious local and international food for you to be delighted with.
I was looking through the pictures of the Ocean Spray, and you can see they have a viewer telescope on the sun deck for you to get a closer look at the islands you sail by. This device is only found onboard the Ocean Spray.
The Natural History of the Galapagos Islands is emphasized aboard the M/C Ocean Spray, guides are handpicked for their knowledge about biology and ecology in addition to having excellent people skills.
The Ocean Spray is perfect for odd-numbered groups of friends. Groups of 3,5, and 7 travel companions can take advantage of the single cabin which does not incur a single supplement.
Onboard the Ocean Spray Luxury Catamaran you will enjoy:
Onboard this luxurious catamaran, you will have six itineraries to choose from:
The 4-day B itinerary visits San Cristobal island with its surrounding highlights which include:
You will also visit Floreana Island which is one of my favorite islands in the Galapagos. Here you get to learn a bit about Galapagos History and you will go snorkeling at the Devil´s Crown – the best snorkeling site in the Galapagos Islands.
The 5-day B itinerary will take you on a tour of the NorthCentral Islands. On this itinerary, you will make a stop at Bartholomew island, here you can catch the perfect view of Pinnacle Rock, and take the quintessential picture of the Galapagos Islands. You will also make your way to Genovesa Island (aka ¨bird island¨) for a fantastic short Galapagos cruise experience.
The 6-day A itinerary is a shorter version of the week-long A itinerary, its a good option for travelers that want to visit the Western Islands of the Galapagos archipelago but don’t have a full week to spare. The 6-day B itinerary is a longer version of the 4-day B itinerary which adds Española island. I’ve always thought that 4 and 5 day itineraries were too short and 8-day itineraries a bit too long, so having two 6-day options is great IMHO.
The 8- day B itinerary combines both the 4 and 5-day itineraries into one week-long itinerary visiting plenty of Galapagos highlights.
The 8- day A itinerary visits the sought after Western Islands in style! You get to visit Isabela and Fernandina islands, where you will find abundant wildlife and a guaranteed superb experience. On top of all this, you finish your Galapagos journey with a visit to Española island where you get to swim with sea lions and if you are lucky you will get a chance to watch the albatross taking off a cliff…truly magnificent!
After analyzing all six itineraries aboard the Ocean Spray, I can easily say that the very best itinerary they have is the week-long A itinerary. I have not seen any other itinerary that includes the Western Islands of Isabela and Fernandina, but still provides a visit to the other Galapagos icon – Española Island. Highly recommended!
If you don’t have a week to spend in the Galapagos, a 6-day itinerary will provide a great and complete experience in the archipelago.
Come aboard and feel the Galapagos Ocean Spray, truly an unparalleled experience!

Preparation is critical to an enjoyable experience.
The AdventureSmith team was extremely responsive and helpful. The multiple reminders in advance were much appreciated since we were still managing day-to-day issues. When our primary contact went on vacation just prior to our trip, the other leader stepped in seamlessly. Fantastic!

The cabin was very clean. The staff made every effort to make us comfortable. The dining areas were very nice. We had two meals in the outdoor dining area during the trip. The ship was spacious and comfortable.
The chef had a wonderful variety, and most dinners included two choices of entree. The food was healthful and beautifully presented, with nice portion sizes. We were very impressed! Coffee, tea, and little snacks were always availa
Our guide, Morris, was extremely knowledgeable and had an obvious passion for the Galapagos. He kept briefings informative and interesting. He was able to point out so much wildlife and give us so much information. He had a delightful sense of humor. We were glad he encouraged us to do a few of the hikes early in the morning before breakfast to avoid the heat.
Aaron gave us all of the information that we needed, and he was easily reachable by phone or email during the week.
Go on a smaller vessel. Ours had 16 guests, which was a great size. Only so many people can fit in a panga, and it is nice to have a small group on hikes and snorkeling activities.

Day 1 saturday.
Saturday: AM: Arrival to Baltra Island Airport, reception and transfer to the yacht for the first visit.
Welcome to the incredible Galapagos Islands and your luxury catamaran, the M/C Ocean Spray! Upon arrival onboard the vessel, your guide and crew members will greet you and take you to your accommodations. After freshening up, a short briefing will be given on health, safety and emergency protocols, and you will be given a description of normal routines and different areas aboard the M/C Ocean Spray.
Saturday: PM visit: Chinese Hat
Named after its distinctive shape, this visitor site will give you your first opportunity at an intimate encounter with Galapagos wildlife. You’ll also be able to see well-preserved, fragile volcanic rock that’s unlike anything you’ve seen before in other volcanic locations. This islet is home to many different Galapagos bird species, including the playful Galapagos penguins and the elusive Galapagos Hawks.
Sunday: AM visit: Isabela Island – Vicente Roca Point
Vicente Roca Point hosts incredible rock formations that are home to many different bird species. As the visitor site is found on the western side of Isabela, the cool azure waters of the nutrient-laden Cromwell Current are the scene of fascinating feeding frenzies of both bird species and underwater mammals.
Sunday: PM Visit: Fernandina Island – Espinosa Point
Fernandina Island is unique in that it is the youngest island in the archipelago and also one of the most pristine – in fact, it has never been invaded by foreign species. As the westernmost island in the Galapagos, it is also more volcanically active than its siblings. Espinosa Point is the only visitor point on Fernandina, but there’s lots to see here, including Galapagos Hawks, marine iguanas and the endemic flightless cormorant. Enjoy the sweeping views of the otherworldly landscape while hiking, and revel
Tagus Cove is one of the Galapagos’ most intriguing visitor sites due to its human history. As one of the preferred pit stops of pirates, sailors and whalers for hundreds of years, guests love reading the interesting names and places etched into the cove’s walls. The hike here will give you panoramic views of the cove and its surroundings, and it will take you past a mangrove forest where the last 35 pairs of Mangrove finches live. You can snorkel off of the cove’s beach – there’s a good chance you’ll see a marine iguana diving for food!
Monday: PM Visit: Isabela Island – Urbina Bay
Urbina Bay, lying on the ocean floor for millions of years, is a volcanic uplift that is now home to land and marine iguanas, boisterous sea lions, and the fascinating flightless cormorant. The bay is a great place to relax on the beach or snorkel in its waters, and there are a couple of hiking trails around Urbina Bay that will give you a better view of different species of shorebirds living near the water.
Tuesday: AM Visit: Isabela Island – Elizabeth Bay
Guests cannot disembark at Elizabeth Bay. due to the area’s fragile ecosystem. However, the bay’s startlingly clear waters allow visitors to see a wide variety and abundance of marine life from the Zodiacs, including Galapagos sharks and enormous sea turtles.
Tuesday: PM visit: Isabela Island – Moreno Point
The otherworldly rocky shoreline of Moreno Point is home to dozens of different bird species, making this a particularly special visitor point for birdwatchers. You can hike into some saltwater lagoons just off of the beach, which are home to more unique bird species. The jet-black lava flows with the deep blue waters, the bright green vegetation surrounding the lagoons, and the towering Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul volcanoes off in the distance make Moreno Point a particularly stunning, picturesque visitor point.
Wednesday: AM Visit: Santa Cruz Island – Charles Darwin Research Station
The Charles Darwin Research Station is a fascinating place to visit for anyone stepping foot on the islands, given its long history of conservation in the archipelago and its extensive collection of Galapagos plant specimens and other interesting things – like a full whale skeleton! It also acts as an active breeding center for Galapagos Giant Tortoises, and continues to be a biological research station to this day, managing multiple projects throughout the archipelago.
Wednesday: PM Visit: Santa Cruz Island – Highlands
The highlands on Santa Cruz Island can reach up to 1,500 meters above sea level, which produces entirely different climate zones. The area is filled with rolling hills, verdant growth, wildlife, and volcanos. Galapagos Giant Tortoises can be found here in their native environment, and guests can see finches, mockingbirds, and several other bird species. The highlands also have incredible panoramic views of the surrounding oceans, and guests can sometimes see whales breaching or rays jumping above the waves.
South Plaza Island is home to one of the archipelago’s smallest visitor sites, but it is also home to a large number of plant and wildlife species. It especially has a lot of Sesuvium plants, such as the prickly pear cactus tree, which is a critical food source for the land iguana. Having recently eradicated the local (imported) mice population, the land iguana population has grown steadily. The jet-black lava set against the crystal-clear turquoise waters surrounding South Plaza Island make it a favorite for photography lovers.
Thursday: PM visit: Santa Fe Island
The endemic pink land iguana lives one a single small island on the planet – and this is it! Santa Fe Island, home to the renowned Santa Fe Iguana, was originally created by a volcanic uplift. Today, it is home to a forest of Palo Santo and Opuntia trees. There are two trails on Santa Fe Island: one leads to a viewpoint overlooking the island and the surrounding ocean, and the other leads down to a small beach. This island once had its own population of Giant Tortoises, which was also unique to the island, but they were entirely wiped out by centuries of overhunting.
Española Island is home to many incredible species and geological features, making it one of the favorite visitor sites in the entire archipelago. Suarez Point is home to only breeding site for Waved Albatrosses in the Galapagos, and if you´re lucky you´ll get the chance to see a young albatross take its first flight off to sea, where it will remain for up to five years! The waters surrounding Española Island are incredibly rich in nutrients, so visitors can often see sea lions, marine iguanas, and even sharks swimming in the surrounding waters. Other than the Waved Albatross, there are many other bird species that make Española their home, including Nazca and blue-footed boobies, red-billed tropic birds, swallow-tailed gulls, and Galapagos Doves, among others.
Friday: AM Visit: Española Island – Gardner Bay / Osborn Islet
Gardner Bay is home to a noisy colony of sea lions that enjoy playing in the clear turquoise waters surrounding it. There are several different finch species here, as well as the endemic Española mockingbird, which is well-known for being very friendly with guests! However, visitors must take care to not feed or touch the wildlife, including the friendly ones.
Saturday: AM Visit: San Cristobal – Interpretation Center
The Interpretation Center has been open to the public for over twenty years, and offers visitors an insight into the history of the Galapagos archipelago and Giant Tortoise breeding practices. San Cristobal, the easternmost island, is also the first island that Charles Darwin set foot on, and is currently home to the provincial capital and the Ecuadorian navy. Giant tortoises that are bred in captivity roam in a semi-natural habitat in the area surrounding the center.
Transfer to the San Cristobal Airport
On the last day of your cruise, the only visit you have is to the Interpretation Center. Afterwards, you´ll board the M/C Ocean Spray to gather your belongings and freshen up for your transfer to the airport.
Saturday: PM Visit: San Cristobal Island – Lobos Island/Kicker Rock
Lobos Island is home to a large colony of boisterous sea lions who love to bask in the warm rays of sunshine and play along the island’s rock shores. It is also home to several different bird species, including frigatebirds, pelicans, and yellow warblers, among others. There is a small channel that runs along the island where the waters are very clear, making it easy to spot huge sea turtles, furtive rays, and even white-tipped sharks!
Kicker Rock is one of the archipelago’s most iconic visitor sites. It consists of two eroded volcanic cones that rise more than 100 meters from the waves in the middle of the open water. It is one of the Galapagos’ most renowned diving sites, and visitors can often see colorful underwater species from the deck of the M/C Ocean Spray.
Pitt Point is truly an “otherworldly” visitor point – it feels like you have stepped out onto another planet! The hike up to the top of the hill provides visitors with sweeping panoramic views of the island and the surrounding ocean, and the trail expertly curves around blue-footed booby nests on the ground. Toward the top of the island, visitors can see red-footed boobies nesting in the low trees, giving you up-close encounters with both incredible species.
Sunday: PM Visit: San Cristobal Island – Witches Hill
Witches Hill has several deep crevices and eroding rocks along the shore where different shore birds nest and feed. Visitors will be able to get close to them on the Zodiac ride, which is often accompanied by friendly sea lions and different kinds of tropical fish visible in the clear waters along the shoreline. Afterward, you’ll disembark on a powdery white-sand beach where you can swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Post Office Bay is one of the archipelago’s most fascinating visitor points due to its human history. Centuries ago, sailors set up a barrel here where they would leave letters to loved ones back home. Other ships would also stop by and look through the addresses on the letters, and take the ones that were addressed to their own destinations – and the first Galapagos mail service was born! Today, the tradition lives on – you can leave a complementary postcard addressed to someone anywhere in the world, and someday a fellow traveler might take it with them and mail it!
Monday: PM Visit: : Floreana Island – Cormorant Point / Devil’s Crown
Cormorant Point is home to two different beaches, and there is a saltwater lagoon just a short walk beyond one of them that is a nesting site for flamingos. Ones of the beaches looks green because of its extraordinarily high content of small olivine crystals, while the other is known as Flour Beach due to its powdery white sand made of pulverized white coral. Visitors can sometimes see rays meandering along the shoreline, as well as different kinds of tropical fish.
Devil’s Crown hosts one of the archipelago’s best snorkeling sites, where snorkelers can see, just below the surface, several incredible volcanic structures that have submerged over the centuries. Today, they are home to countless colorful fish species, as well as sharks, rays, sea turtles, sea lions, and starfish, among many others!
Located along the northern side of Santa Cruz Island, Black Turtle Cove is a shallow inlet surrounded by mangroves that provide natural protection for several juvenile marine species. Just under the calm waters of the cove, visitors can see majestic sea turtles, different kinds of rays, and both white-tip and black-tip reef sharks. Blue-footed boobies and pelicans both enjoy hunting in these nutrient-rich waters, and can often be seen dive-bombing into the water.
Tuesday: PM Visit: Bartholomew Island – Pinnacle Rock
The most iconic geographical feature of the Galapagos Islands is, unquestionably, Pinnacle Rock. A volcanic cone that formed by magma forcefully expelled by an underwater volcano, the sea instantly cooled the lava as it exploded upward, forming an enormous rock rising out of the sea. Today, there is a small beach around the rock where green sea turtles nest during breeding season. It is also a gathering point for fun-loving Galapagos penguins who love to dive into the water from the base of Pinnacle Rock and splash around in its azure waters. Not to be outdone, Pinnacle Rock is frequented by curious sea lions and many kinds of tropical fish.
Darwin Bay used to be a shield volcano, but one of the sides of its caldera collapsed after centuries of erosion. The bay is well-known for the sheer number and variety of birds that can been found here – in fact, over 20,000 red-footed boobies are estimated to call this island home, nesting among the trees and bushes of Genovesa Island. You will also fine Nazca and blue-footed boobies Darwin finches, and lots of marine life, including marine iguanas, rays, and sea lions.
Wednesday: PM Visit: Genovesa Island – El Barranco
El Barranco, also known as Prince Phillip’s Steps, is a visitor site at the top of a cliff, rewarding visitors with an incredible panoramic view of the area. There is also a Palo Santo forest nearby, which is a nesting spot for red-footed boobies and other shorebirds.
Santiago Island is the second island in the archipelago that Charles Darwin set foot on, and Buccaneer Cove, once a refuge for passing pirates, sailors and whalers, is an excellent place to snorkel and swim. There are beautiful underwater formations that are home to many marine species, especially large schools of colorful tropical fish.
Thursday AM Visit: Santiago Island – Egas Port
Egas Port, also known as James Bay, is home to quick-footed Galapagos lava lizards and lounging marine iguanas. The grottos and tide pools surrounding the bay hide all kinds of different marine species, and it’s always exciting to see what you can find! This is also one of the best places to go snorkeling in the entire Galapagos.
Friday AM Visit: North Seymour Island
Named after English nobleman Lord Hugh Seymour, this island was formed by uplifted submarine lava. Home to more than 2,500 land iguanas and large populations of sea lions, blue-footed boobies, and other bird species, North Seymour Island is also frequented by many different shark species, which can sometimes be seen from the Zodiac or from the M/C Ocean Spray itself.
Friday: PM Visit: Santa Cruz Island – Highlands / Charles Darwin Research Station
On the highlands of Santa Cruz, you’ll have the opportunity to see the famous giant tortoises in the wild. So renowned are these endemic animals that they gave the archipelago its name. Birdwatching is also one of the activities do to in the Santa Cruz highlands, since this area is home of finches and other Galapagos birds.
After the visit to the highlands, we continue on to a visit of the famous Charles Darwin Research Station that provides guests with a unique opportunity to find out about the vital work that is being carried out to preserve the archipelago’s ecosystems.
The Research Center is also home to a significant breeding program for Galapagos tortoises, whose numbers have been in decline since the 1970’s.
These captivating reptiles are very accustomed to humans, so be sure to bring your camera for some close-ups.
Mosquera Islet is located between North Seymour Island and Baltra, which is just off the northern coast of Santa Cruz Island. The islet is home to a reef of rocks and coral resulting from a volcanic uprising, as well as a long, white-sand beach. The narrowest part of the islet is only 160 meters wide, and it is mostly surrounded by black lava rocks; however, on the southwest side of Mosquera there is a landing point. Despite its small size, Mosquera Islet is home to one of the Galapagos’ largest colonies of sea lions, and there are several species of shorebirds that make it their home, too. Given the large number of sea lions present, visitors can see orca whales periodically throughout the year who come to feed on them.
Transfer to Baltra Airport
On the last day of your cruise, the only visit you have is to Mosquera Islet. Afterwards, you´ll board the M/C Ocean Spray to gather your belongings and freshen up for your transfer to the airport.
Day 1 tuesday.

Monday: PM Visit: Genovesa Island – El Barranco visitors with an incredible panoramic view of the area. There is also a Palo Santo forest nearby, which is a nesting spot for red-footed boobies and other shorebirds.
Thursday: PM Visit: Santiago Island – Egas Port Egas Port, also known as James Bay, is home to quick-footed Galapagos lava lizards and lounging marine iguanas. The grottos and tide pools surrounding the bay hide all kinds of different marine species, and it’s always exciting to see what you can find! This is also one of the best places to go snorkeling in the entire Galapagos.
Friday: AM Visit: North Seymour Island Named after English nobleman Lord Hugh Seymour, this island was formed by uplifted submarine lava. Home to more than 2,500 land iguanas and large populations of sea lions, blue-footed boobies, and other bird species, North Seymour Island is also frequented by many different shark species, which can sometimes be seen from the Zodiac or from the M/C Ocean Spray itself.
Ocean spray 3-night cruise.
Saturday: PM Visit: San Cristobal Island – Lobos Island/Kicker Rock Lobos Island is home to a large colony of boisterous sea lions who love to bask in the warm rays of sunshine and play along the island’s rock shores.
Sunday: PM Visit: San Cristobal Island – Witches Hill Witches Hill has several deep crevices and eroding rocks along the shore where different shore birds nest and feed. Visitors will be able to get close to them on the Zodiac ride, which is often accompanied by friendly sea lions and different kinds of tropical fish visible in the clear waters along the shoreline. Afterward, you will disembark on a powdery white-sand beach where you can swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Saturday: PM Visit: Floreana Island – Cormorant Point / Devil’s Crown Cormorant Point is home to two different beaches, and there is a saltwater lagoon just a short walk beyond one of them that is a nesting site for flamingos. Ones of the beaches looks green because of its extraordinarily high content of small olivine crystals, while the other is known as Flour Beach due to its powdery white sand made of pulverized white coral. Visitors can sometimes see rays meandering along the shoreline, as well as different kinds of tropical fish.
On the last day of your cruise, the only visit you have is to Black Turtle Cove. Afterwards, you´ll board the M/C Ocean Spray to gather your belongings and freshen up for your transfer to the airport.
Saturday PM: Chinese Hat Named after its distinctive shape, this visitor site will give you your first opportunity at an intimate encounter with Galapagos wildlife. You will also be able to see well-preserved, fragile volcanic rock that’s unlike anything you’ve seen before in other volcanic locations. This islet is home to many different Galapagos bird species, including the playful Galapagos penguins and the elusive Galapagos Hawks.
Sunday PM: Fernandina Island – Espinosa Point Fernandina Island is unique in that it is the youngest island in the archipelago and also one of the most pristine – in fact, it has never been invaded by foreign species. As the westernmost island in the Galapagos, it is also more volcanically active than its siblings. Espinosa Point is the only visitor point on Fernandina, but there is lots to see here, including Galapagos Hawks, marine iguanas and the endemic flightless cormorant. Enjoy the sweeping views of the otherworldly landscape while hiking, and revel in the sheer abundance of marine life under the waves while snorkeling along the beach.
Monday PM: Isabela Island – Urbina Bay Urbina Bay, lying on the ocean floor for millions of years, is a volcanic uplift that is now home to land and marine iguanas, boisterous sea lions, and the fascinating flightless cormorant. The bay is a great place to relax on the beach or snorkel in its waters, and there are a couple of hiking trails around Urbina Bay that will give you a better view of different species of shorebirds living near the water.
Tuesday: PM: Isabela Island – Moreno Point The otherworldly rocky shoreline of Moreno Point is home to dozens of different bird species, making this a particularly special visitor point for birdwatchers.
Wednesday PM: Santa Cruz Island – Highlands The highlands on Santa Cruz Island can reach up to 1,500 meters above sea level, which produces entirely different climate zones.
On the last day of your cruise, the only visit you have is to South Plaza Island. Afterwards, you´ll board the M/C Ocean Spray to gather your belongings and freshen up for your transfer to the airport.
Thursday: AM: Arrival to Baltra Airport and transfer to M/C Ocean Spray Welcome to the incredible Galapagos Islands and your luxury catamaran, the M/C Ocean Spray!
Friday: PM Visit: Española Island – Gardner Bay / Osborn Islet Gardner Bay is home to a noisy colony of sea lions that enjoy playing in the clear turquoise waters surrounding it. There are several different finch species here, as well as the endemic Española mockingbird, which is well-known for being very friendly with guests! However, visitors must take care to not feed or touch the wildlife, including the friendly ones.

Day 6 tuesday.
Tuesday: AM Visit: Santa Cruz Island – Black Turtle Cove Located along the northern side of Santa Cruz Island, Black Turtle Cove is a shallow inlet surrounded by mangroves that provide natural protection for several juvenile marine species.

Current Offers - Galapagos Unbound - Signature Tour
Please send me more info and current offers for your Galapagos Unbound - Signature Tour.
Our Signature Tour of the Galapagos Islands is the ultimate adventure, and we’ve just made it better than ever.
Check out our itinerary below and you can immediately see the Galapagos Unbound difference. We pioneered Galapagos land tours and have consistently advocated for environmentally low-impact travel through these utterly enchanting "enchanted isles."
This Galapagos Unbound tour was featured in the New York Times travel section on January 8, 2006, in an article by Tim Neville. While some details of the original itinerary have been modified since then, the tour's essence as an unparalleled multisport adventure in the Galapagos remains unchanged. Our certified local guides continue to work closely with the Galapagos Park Service to deliver an exceptional experience.
Immerse yourself in the diverse wildlife and ecosystems of the Galapagos Islands with our Galapagos Unbound Signature Tour. This unique Galapagos small group tour takes you beyond the typical cruise to snorkel, hike, and kayak alongside iconic species while supporting the local community. Experience an intimate, eco-conscious journey through the archipelago's unique islands and habitats on an adventure you’ll never forget.
No words can fully convey the awe of getting up close with birds and animals that show little fear of humans. On a Galapagos Islands vacation, you can swim with playful sea lions, stand within feet of vibrant blue-footed boobies, and see marine iguanas and giant tortoises found only here. The wonders of the Galapagos are truly indescribable.
This Galapagos land tour combines gentle paddles to remote coves with nights spent camping on pristine beaches - an experience that is one-of-a-kind. You’ll hike to the rim of an active volcano, come face-to-face with marine life while snorkeling, and experience awe-inspiring sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. We trek and kayak to secluded sites inaccessible to larger groups, encountering wildlife and embracing the journey itself. As the only Galapagos land-based travel experience that includes camping on deserted beaches, Galapagos Unbound provides a distinctive experience.
This Galapagos active trip is also one of the most sustainable eco-tours in the archipelago, offering a minimally impactful experience that supports both the islands' environment and local communities. Compared to a cruise, this trip has a smaller carbon footprint by using far less fuel per person. More of the fees from your Galapagos Islands holiday will go directly to islanders, bringing them greater economic benefits. Uniquely, the trip includes camping on an approved island beach using ultra-low-impact techniques that exceed "Leave No Trace" standards.

Tiered Pricing Explained
Our trips are budgeted for full or near full sign-ups which enables us to offer trips at the lowest possible price. Because of numerous fixed costs, it is more expensive to operate a trip for a small group. Therefore, on some of our trips, in order to avoid having to cancel a trip, we have a “tier-pricing” system to avoid canceling a trip with a low number of sign ups. We have found that most people also prefer this alternative to having a trip cancelled. Thus, you will note on our trip prices there may be different price for 6-8 people versus 9-10, versus 11-12. We may initially invoice you at the higher tier price, and refund the difference depending on the final group size. Trip costs quoted are based on foreign exchange rates current at the time of this printing. We reserve the right to raise the trip fee if there are exceptional cost increases beyond our control. Prices are based on double occupancy. If desired, we will strive to pair you up with another single guest to elimate the single supplement fee however, please note that this is not always possible.

Faq & more, where are the galapagos islands located.
The Galapagos Islands (or Archipelago de Colon) are a Province of Ecuador located about 500 miles (800 kilometers) west of the Ecuadorian coast and are located directly on the equator.
Visit this page for a month-to-month detail on weather. Because the Galapagos Islands are on the equator, it’s warm most of the year. The warmest season is usually January to April and average temperatures range from a low of 70F/22C to around of 84F/31C. This is also the “wet season” and there may be afternoon thundershowers. During a severe El Nino year, it’s more likely to rain at any time of day. April to December is considered the “dry season” and is cooler, with average temperatures ranging from around 68F/19C to 82F/27C. At this time of year it is not uncommon to have the "garua" (misty rain) early in the morning and in the highlands of Santa Cruz and San Cristobal. Our experience is that the time of year doesn’t make a lot of difference in terms of the amount of rain as there isn’t enough to impact your trip too much.
Whenever your schedule allows! Because it’s on the equator, air temperatures don’t change a lot. However water temperature does fluctuate as much as ten degrees during the year. The cooler Humboldt Current comes up from Antarctica from May to September/October and the sea is cooler and tends to be rougher at this time of year. Cooler water temperatures mean you generally see more sea life because there is more food for the animals that depend on the planktons and other sea nourishment. From November to April, the cooler Panama Current flows from the north and brings warmer water. The sea tends to be calmer at this time of year. If you’re going on our land-based tour then rough water is less of a concern. If you’re doing a cruise, and you are prone to seasickness, you might want to consider coming in the November to April time frame. Check out further recommendations on when to go here.
For a month to month comparison of temperatures and wildlife activity check out the Galapagos Calendar.
On this tour, you should arrive on day one of the itinerary. This is included as a travel day to ensure all guests in the group are checked in and ready for the tour of Quito on day two. On the final day, you should expect to arrive back to Quito around 4 p.m. Taking into account the minimum-three-hours check-in required for international flights, you shouldn't plan to depart anytime before 7 p.m. Many guests opt to stay over and fly out the next morning.
The capital city of Quito sits at about 2,850 meters, or 9,350 feet. When spending time exploring the city, some guests do experience mild sensitivity. Arriving a day or two early for acclimation is a great idea if you are afraid you might have issues. Some ways to avoid becoming ill are to drink plenty of water (more than you would normally think to), taking frequent breaks when walking and keeping a slower pace.
From the U.S. and Canada there are daily flights via Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York and Miami, to Quito, Ecuador.
We do not arrange international air travel but we do have a great air travel specialist we refer you to if you’d like.
Yes, all Domestic flights between mainland Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands will be included on your invoice. We will make the arrangements in conjunction with our partners in Ecuador. Flights to the Galapagos Islands depart several times daily from both Quito and Guayaquil aboard Boeing 737’s or Airbus 320’s or similar.
Ecuador uses the US dollar which was adopted as the official currency in 2000. Be sure to bring cash bills in good condition because bills with markings or tears won’t be accepted. There are also ATM machines in the larger towns. It’s also a good idea to alert your bank that you’ll be traveling to Ecuador so they don’t stop the transactions.
We have been running trips in Ecuador since 1992 and know the country well. We have plenty of ideas for extending your trip whether it be to the Amazon, the Cloud Forest, the highlands in the north or south, or whatever might be your special interest. We can also arrange extensions to Peru and Machu Picchu.
There are a lot of arrangements to be made for a custom trip like our Unbound Signature active adventure. It’s very helpful with our planning if you book four to 12 months in advance. However, if you can’t plan that far ahead, then it’s usually not a problem to book up to about two months in advance. If you find yourself looking for last-minute space just call us and check!
The Galapagos is surely one of the best places in the world to snorkel. The flourishing ocean life is an ecological treasure, and one of the main draws to the archipelago. You will have multiple chances to snorkel, sometimes at multiple locations in a day. We do recommend you try snorkeling ahead of time for your trip to get the most out of your experience, if you have never done so. Wetsuits aren’t strictly necessary, but “shorty” wetsuits (knees to elbows) of about 2mm are recommended to keep out any chill. We have full snorkel gear available to use including wetsuits.
We provide all of the kayaking and camping equipment, while you need to simply bring your clothing and personal gear. We also provide wetsuits and snorkeling gear for your convenience, or your may bring your own. We send a complete list with items to bring such as paddling gloves, a water bottle, flash light, etc. We suggest traveling “light” for this adventure.
We recommend if you'd like to enjoy some scuba diving, that you stay on the islands for an extra day or two. This can easily be arranged at an additional cost. Please note that most diving locations in the Galapagos are very technical and often require certification in addition to significant experience.
Both trips are ten days in length. This itinerary offers time spent on three islands, rather than the four seen on the Galapagos Island Explorer tour. This tour offers camping on the beach, while the other does not. The Galapagos Island Explorer does offer more frequent departures than the Signature tour. Both tours offer plenty of time spent snorkeling, kayaking and wildlife-viewing.
These are the only two tours to offer beach camping, however there are only two nights camping on the Unbound Signature tour. The Galapagos by Kayak tour is shorter at nine days in length, and visits two islands rather than three. It does include the most amount of paddling and camping, and is geared more toward kayak enthusiasts in particular. The Unbound Signature tour is a broader multi-sport tour, perfect for families with children.
Yes. Spanish is the official language of Ecuador and the Galapagos but all tour guides are bilingual and speak english.
Yes, most major credit and debit cards are accepted in Ecuador. There are plenty of ATM’s to use if you prefer to purchase things with cash as well.
We provide all necessary camping equiptment to ensure quality and comfort. At our exclusive oceanfront camp, we have roomy tents that accommodate standing up. The tents are equipped with cots, sleeping pags, sheets, pillows, and a small lantern. There is plenty of space for your luggage to accomodate you in your tent as well. While you are out enjoying the Galapagos Islands during the day, your tents will be cleaned so you return to a comfortable and inviting space at the end of the day.
If you are looking to rinse off after a long day in the water, there will be a desginated shower tent set up by your guides.
You love this itinerary but want to change it a bit to make it perfect for you? Or, are you wanting to simply make it private? Either way, we can do it!
