Catamarans are spacious open-plan sailing vessels with 360-degree views from every angle of the boat. They are usually single-level, and they have more outdoor space than indoor space but plastic walls can be folded down if it gets rainy or windy. Most catamarans don’t have bars onboard so drinks are BYO. They typically have sunbathing nets and always offer a relaxed cruising experience for a top price.

Cruisers are terrific all-rounders, with a good balance of indoor and outdoor space to move around across 1-2 levels. Many cruisers have bars onboard so beverage packages are available.

Yachts are a step up from cruisers, offering a luxury experience with sleek interiors and exteriors for the ultimate comfort and style.

Large Function Boats are like floating function centres, ideal for large group parties and sit-down dinner style celebrations. They typically all have large bars, kitchens and dancefloors onboard.

Yes if you need to, subject to a time and place suitable with the boat.

Cruises are usually 4 hours duration. A minimum of 3 hours applies to most vessels. Bucks and hens parties are typically 3-4 hours, birthdays are 4 hours and corporate events are 4-5 hours.

When you have decided on a boat and package you would like, we will email you a booking confirmation including the boat name, pick-up location, price and inclusions. You then have 48 hours to pay a deposit to confirm your booking (the number of days will be specified in your booking confirmation). The deposit is normally $500-$1000 depending on the boat and some boats require a larger deposit. The balance of payment is due 10 days before the cruise date.

When you book a private charter with Sailing in Paradise you can expect a quality of service from years of experience in the industry but most of all your can expect a fun day (or evening) on the water that your group will love.

From your initial enquiry, we aim to make the booking process as simple as possible for you, offering a variety of optional extras including catering, beverages, should you wish to book them. But none of this is obligatory, we also welcome BYO.

Private Charter FAQ's

Where do your boats depart from?

Our boats are berthed at Marina Mirage. Please see the ' contact us ' page on our website for further details and a map. Marina Mirage is about 10 mins from Surfers and 15 mins from Broadbeach.

Where can I park?

There is parking available at Mariners Cove (paid) and Marina Mirage plus limited street parking on Seaworld Drive. Please check signage at time of parking and consider ride share for a stress free arrival at your charter (especially during busy times of year).

What about other transport options?

There are lots of ways to get to the boat! The most popular (and cost effective/convenient) is often via Maxi Taxis.

Can I BYO food and drink?

Yes if you would like to bring your own food and drinks on board that is completely fine.

I am short on time can you please help me out with catering/drinks?

Yes, we also offer catering and drinks service for your convenience. Please request our full catering list as advance bookings are required. We offer a range of catering options from grazing boards, to tapas and private chefs.

Do you have Eskies on board?

Yes we do and we also provide ice. The eskies are very large and can be used for food or drink.

Where can we go on our charter?

We operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. Where to go very much depends on what you would like to do and how long your boat charter is for so please feel free to discuss this with our team. In a 3 hour charter during the day our guests usually love a swim stop at Wavebreak Island where you can enjoy the range of island activities on board. Your skipper is knowledgeable in the local area and will make recommendations based on the conditions on the day.  If you don't wish to swim in a 3 hour charter you instead opt to sail further north along the inside of South Stradbroke Island and see the millionaires mansions at Sovereign Islands.

In the evening we will generally sail north to watch the sunset and return to the southern part of the Broadwater to enjoy the city lights after dark which are just beautiful.

Will I get seasick?

Nope. We operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. We do not go offshore (into the open ocean) so we do not experience large waves. Our catamarans are very stable, and do not have the same side to side rocking motion as experienced by single hull vessels so you won't get seasick :-).

What happens if it rains?

First of all remember...a little rain doesn't stop a great time on our boats especially in the warm Gold Coast endless summer... But do rest assured that we have a very generous wet weather policy as we want you to enjoy your time on board the boat, so if there is torrential rain or storms at the time you will be able to cancel or reschedule your cruise. Please see the full booking policy provided with your invoice for full details or contact our team.

Are your charters suitable for children?

Absolutely! We love having kids on board and our crew will often try and include them in the sailing and driving the boat. We also carry a range of beach games suitable for kids including buckets and spades for the littlest family members. The wide and spacious deck area also make the boats wonderful for kids, of course you are always careful with children when it comes to being on the water but as boats go our catamarans would be some of the most family friendly around. Please feel free to contact our team if you have any questions about which boat may be best for your family.

Are your charters suitable for guests with limited mobility?

We have welcomed several guests on board with limited mobility. However we do realise that each individual is different in terms of ability and what they are comfortable with. Please take a look at the 360 tours on the ' Our Boats ' page for an ideal of getting around the boats and do bear in mind a big step up (or carry) is required to board the boats at the marina. Our friendly team will be happy to discuss further to ensure you and your guests are comfortable prior to making a booking.

Life is made up of moments that are truly hard to forget! My partner provided me with one of the best birthday presents anyone could ever ask for. I was under the impression we would be staying in an air bnb but when we arrived at a luxurious property and the gate drew back, my surprise took a turn and I quickly realised this was not the place I would be staying. The walkway down to the boat made me very giddy indeed as this was not something you experience every day. We were met by Grant and Carolyn all dressed in boating regalia and the tone was quickly set by their wonderful greeting and eagerness to provide a first-class service. This tone didn’t drop an iota throughout the trip. Every single detail was meticulously planned and I felt like I was royalty for the weekend. The Yacht itself was decadent and opulent beyond what thoughts I could muster. My partner and I did not have to worry about anything at all on the yacht as we were waited on hand and foot by these wonderful people. I have worked in hospitality for the majority of my life and I believe my standards have always been high…..these guys blew it out of the water…..and then some. You have the choice to do exactly as you please and they facilitate all that you require. We got to jump from the top of the boat and go swimming, we visited an idyllic isolated island and had a champagne picnic and we were treated to one of the best meals I have ever had and Grant and Carolyn had just themselves to organise such a ridiculously mouth watering meal. Such was the decency and salt of the earth nature of these guys that we asked them to join us for a few drinks in the evening and we had an absolute blast with them. Top shelf spirits and wines were all part of the package and you really did feel like you would never get an experience like this ever again. I can’t speak highly enough of what this trip meant to us and given the opportunity; we will be embarking on such a voyage in the near future. This trip would not have even been close to what it was without the decency, generosity and kindness that the hosts provided all the way through.

Awesome experience. We loved it. Grant and Carolyn are fantastic hosts.

Walk around decks with more seating and another daybed on the bow. The rear deck is expansive and undercover. The duckboard is accessible and safe during the cruise with stainless steel railings.

The lounge area is luxurious and has a galley with plenty of refrigeration. Another cockpit area leads to down below where there are 3 impressive bedrooms and bathrooms. The state room is impressive with its star light ceiling and luxury finishes. All areas are accessible during a charter.

Start off at Marina Mirage for pick up at 5.30pm before heading for a sunset cruise, where your Skipper will find the perfect spot to anchor up overnight! Wake up with the sunrise and take a morning dip before breakfast on the aft deck, with a short cruise back for drop off at 9am!

With a light breakfast provided in the morning, you have the choice to BYO your own premade food for dinner or select from one of our catering menus for the evening.

Gold Coast Charter Boat BACCHUS is a luxury 62 foot thoroughbred amongst other charter boats.  It is available for private cruise on the Gold Coast Broadwater – one of the world’s most magnificent waterways.  Bacchus can accommodate 47 day passengers.  “Bacchus” – named after the Roman God of Wine – has been operating a wide range of private Boat Charters on the Gold Coast for over a decade.

She is designed, equipped and professionally operated to the highest standard. The salon and outer decks, including the back BBQ Beer Garden and the bow Sky Lounge, are multipurpose and suitable for parties, functions, celebrations, memorial ash scatterings – even weddings.  The ‘flybridge’ provides spectacular views behind the capable hands of our experienced skipper.

It has a full kitchen with oven and microwave to enable an enjoyable meal onboard. Special facilities include an expert sound system, BBQ, an ice machine, a new floating mat and a water trampoline (at extra cost).

The vast bow area has recently been refitted into a sky lounge with seats – great for outside cruising in the Gold Coast sun or to relax in at night. We’ve christened it the “Sky Lounge’ for a reason. You can take in 360-degree views of the Gold Coast, from Sea World, Southport, the high-rises in Surfers Paradise all the way to Moreton Island.

The unique and brand new Sky Lounge has padded seating for 8 people plus plenty of deck space to stand or sit on the raised bow tops. A handy table has been added so you can enjoy a casual lunch ‘al fresco’ under the Queensland sun. • Seating for 8 • Padded settees • Table with cup holders • Sun umbrella may be added • Speaker system surround-sound

The Back Deck leads to everything else on the MV Bacchus.  From here you can walk around to the bow Sky Lounge, go downstairs to the BBQ Beer Garden, climb up and join the Skipper on the Flybridge or pop inside to the Salon for some quiet time.

The Back Deck has the following facilities

• Double Bar fridge
• Wine, champagne and water glasses in boat-safe acrylic
• Seating for 12
• Large table for casual dining or grazing plates
• Completely wind and water-proof should it rain

From the back deck, descend the stairs to the new BBQ Beer Garden.

Island Stops

When you cruise is at least 4 hours long, you have the option of stopping by an island for a swim. This is perfect for your fun birthday, family, bucks or hens parties.

Water Trampoline

If your cruise is at least 6 hours long, the special trampoline can be deployed at extra cost ($50 per hour).  The swimming mat and inflatables are free for use.

Water Trampoline Fun Day (up to 40 guests): $5500 Includes lifeguards and additional staff for floatation inflation BBQ included for all passengers. Additional $500 for 41 to 47 guests.

Bucks Party Special

Boobs and BBQ Bucks Brekky – On Saturday or Sunday mornings on the MV Bacchus from 9am to 12 pm. Enjoy a hot BBQ breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, tomatoes and mushrooms served by two topless waitresses. Cost – $2,500 for up to 25 people. Extras at $10 per head.

Our new ‘Sky Lounge’ on the bow now allows elderly attendees to sit in comfort and safety as they participate in your ceremonies.  Our  one-hour cruise price of $750  is only available for Memorials or Ash.  For a price comparable to land-based venues, you can get so much more than an event hall. Leave your dearly departed in a place they loved – on the Gold Coast Broadwater. If you choose a slightly longer memorial cruise, you may also hold a wake on board.

• Your loved one may have a passion for marine expeditions, so a chartered boat can help you recall them by their favourite activities. Remember them with your group by visiting the same aquatic atmosphere in which they had found solace and peace.
• The Bacchus is a safe atmosphere for people to feel comfortable and open up about their memories. You can even use our media connections to create a photo slideshow or show videos.

Red wine or full bottles of spirits with seperate mixers are not permitted but any beers, wines or pre-mixes in cans or bottles like Canadian Club or Vodka Cruiser are fine.  We provide the ice and have several fridges, a large freezer and ice buckets as required.

•  Time of Year – Firstly, know which time of the year you want to book a luxury boat charter on the Gold Coast. Weather plays a big part in the type of experience you are seeking. For instance, during peak summer, it’s often hot and humid, and rain can be frequent and heavy. During the winter, it is drier; however, the evenings can be cold. Fortunately, you don’t have to let the rain bother you too much. Our yacht has many indoor spaces for you to enjoy and the Back Deck and Saloon are completely weather-proof.
• Food and Drinks – With our commercial-size kitchen,  you can hire a caterer and enjoy professionally-prepared dishes. Or, you can throw some snags on the BBQ and chat as you share a casual lunch togethr.  We have all the platters, plates and cutlery you could possibly require so there is no need to bring any plastic plates or utensils onboard during your luxury boat hire. 
• Time of Day – Do you enjoy the sunset and the stars or want a warm day for swimming and sun-bathing on the bow of the MV Bacchus? You may choose to enjoy the sunset with bubbly and light snacks to watch the lights of Surfers Paradise and sneak a peek inside the waterfront mansions as you cruise the Broadwater under the stars.  The MV Bacchus is well-lit for socialising under the stars with twinkling bistro lights on the Sky Lounge at the bow.   
• Swimming or Socialising? You need to discuss any swimming options with our Booking Agent beforehand as the Broadwater can have dangerous tides and currents and not all cruise times are suitable for swimming.  The size of the MV Bacchus makes it difficult to anchor too close to land so swimmers must be proficient.   The MV Bacchus has a swim mat onboard and range of floatation toys for guests to enjoy.  There is also a new 16-foot water trampoline available.  Ask our booking agent Janine about it.

Our boats are berthed at Marina Mirage. Please see the ‘contact us’ page on our website for further details and a map. Marina Mirage is about 10 mins from Surfers and 15 mins from Broadbeach.

Where can I park?

There is plentiful free parking at Marina Mirage/Mariners Cove which you are permitted to use.  Please check signage at time of parking and if parking overnight consider street parking to avoid towing.

What about other transport options?

There are lots of ways to get to the boat! The most popular (and cost effective/convenient) is often via Maxi Taxis.

I am short on time can you please help me out with catering/drinks?

Yes, we also offer catering and drinks service for your convenience. Please request our full catering list as advance bookings are required. We offer a range of catering options from grazing boards, to canapes and private chefs.

(Catering and drinks service options may be affected by Government restrictions due to Covid, please check at the time of your charter what the current restrictions are)

Do you have Eskies on board?

Yes we have Fridges & Eskies and we also provide ice.

Where can we go on our charter?

We mainly operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. Where to go very much depends on what you would like to do and how long your boat charter is for so please feel free to discuss this with our team. In a 3 hour charter during the day our guests usually love a swim stop at Wavebreak Island where you can enjoy the range of island activities on board. Your skipper is knowledgeable in the local area and will make recommendations based on the conditions on the day.  If you don’t wish to swim in a 3 hour charter you instead opt to sail further north along the inside of South Stradbroke Island and see the millionaires mansions at Sovereign Islands.

In the evening we will generally sail north to watch the sunset and return to the southern part of the Broadwater to enjoy the city lights after dark which are just beautiful.

Will I get seasick?

We mainly operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. If we go offshore (into the open ocean) there is a possibility of large waves.

Are your charters suitable for guests with limited mobility?

We have welcomed several guests on board with limited mobility. However we do realise that each individual is different in terms of ability and what they are comfortable with. Please take a look at the 360 tours on the ‘ Our Boats ‘ page for an ideal of getting around the boats and do bear in mind a big step up (or carry) is required to board the boats at the marina. Our friendly team will be happy to discuss further to ensure you and your guests are comfortable prior to making a booking.

A fisherman off Queensland ’s Gold Coast has suffered serious injuries after he was slapped across the face by the whip of a whale’s tail .

The 40-year-old man reportedly did not know where the whale was until it appeared in front of him and collided with his boat near the border between Queensland and New South Wales.

He was then knocked unconscious by a whack of the whale’s tail, but was remarkably not knocked off the boat and remained on board after being struck.

After the man’s friend on board and nearby jetski riders called the emergency services, rescue teams were able to locate the men and bring them back to shore.

The fisherman was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital and treated for serious injuries to his face and spine.

Queensland emergency services said he is now in stable condition but couldn’t remember the event.

The ambulance service described the incident as “extremely rare” and “extraordinary”.

“We’ve had boats come in contact with whales before, but not actually a person sitting in a boat,” first responder Scott Brown told local news.

“You have a little bit of disbelief that it happened at first, but respond nonetheless, and when we got there, that’s what we found had happened,” he told ABC News.

Humpback and southern right whales pass via Sydney as they migrate along Australia’s east coast to head north during the coldest months of June and July, and return south between September and November.

During this time people are also more likely to take their boats out into deeper water as there are favourable weather conditions.

Officials urged people to remain alert when they go fishing or boating during the whale season and to always wear life jackets when travelling on boats in the area.

“Just be cautious that there are a lot of whales at this time of year in that area, and today has shown us that anything can happen,” Mr Brown said.
