Luxury superyacht LAUREL has been built to offer the highest levels of luxury and service amongst functional living areas and a huge selection of amenities.

The 73.15m/240' 'Laurel' motor yacht built by the American shipyard Delta Marine is available for charter for up to 12 guests in 7 cabins. This yacht features interior styling by Donald Starkey.

With an abundance of space and superlative amenities across her luxurious decks, you'll be spoilt for choice on a luxury yacht charter aboard Laurel. She is equipped with wheelchair accessibility, movie theatre, elevator, beach club and gym.

Exterior Design

Built by Delta Marine in the Pacific Northwest, Laurel is the second largest yacht to be built in North America since the Great Depression. Her sun deck extends fore and aft of a central observation room, the forward part being a belvedere terrace and the aft offering a gym, spa pool and sunbathing. Tenders are stored on the lower deck and launched through doors to port and starboard. Aft of the boats is a diving room that opens to the large bathing platform created by opening the stern door.

Interior Design

The master suite is positioned amidships on the main deck, flanked by private side decks, and is entered through a private lobby that opens forward to the bedroom through a sitting room/office. The forward part of the main deck is devoted to a crew mess and leisure area. The interior features a blend of anigre and is furnished in a comfortably eclectic style. Notably, the central staircase spirals around a three-storey-high glass sculpture depicting marine life by Seattle artist Mary van Cline.

Guest Accommodation

Families will particularly love Laurel thanks to her child-friendly setup. Built in 2006, She offers guest accommodation for up to 12 guests with a layout comprising a master suite located on the main deck, four double cabins and one twin cabin. There are 7 beds in total, including 5 king, 1 queen, 1 single and 1 pullman. A crew of twenty-four, who specialize in creating exceptional charters, are on hand to provide guests with a yacht charter vacation to remember.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Keeping comfortable and entertained on Laurel is easy thanks to the available amenities, particularly a dedicated library, where you can unwind in seclusion. Meanwhile the yacht boasts a movie theatre, perfect to relax after a long day on the water. Head to the beach club and take advantage of indoor-outdoor living and entertaining or you can visit the well-equipped gym so that you can keep up with your fitness routine at sea. Retreat to the deck jacuzzi and soak up the scenery.

Whatever your activities on your charter, you'll find some impressive features are seamlessly integrated to help you, particularly wheelchair-friendly access, making this vessel suitable for all guests. Travelling from deck to deck is quick, easy and accessible with the on-board elevator or with Wi-Fi connectivity you don't have to lose contact with the outside world, unless you want to. You can stay comfortable on board whatever the weather, with air conditioning during your charter.

Performance & Range

Built with a steel hull and composite superstructure, she offers greater on-board space and is more stable when at anchor thanks to her full-displacement hull. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 15 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots with a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles from her 173,307 litre fuel tanks at 13 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

Laurel has aboard a plentiful range of water toys and accessories ready to entertain you and your guests whilst on charter. Principle among these are waterslides bringing a sense of fun that all the family can enjoy. Guests can feel the wind in their hair and jump the waves on one of the two SeaDoo WaveRunners. Also there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. If that isn't enough Laurel also features scuba diving equipment, a seabob, wakeboards, kayaks, fishing equipment and much more. Laurel features three tenders, but leading the pack is a 7.62m/25' Nautica Tender to transport you in style.

Laurel and her crew are available for charter this winter for cruising within the Caribbean. She is already accepting bookings this summer for cruising in the Mediterranean.

At 73.15 meters, LAUREL is one of the largest custom yachts built in the United States since the early part of last century. Styled by Donald Starkey Design with naval architecture and marine engineering by the Delta Design Group, the goal was to create a classically beautiful yacht that is performance-focused for maximum efficiency. Her lightweight composite superstructure helps minimize her deck-to-deck heights and lowers her profile to create a sleeker and tighter overall look. While LAUREL impresses all with her elegant entrance and refined stern, the Delta Design Group created a hull form that is both remarkably fuel-efficient and sea-kindly in all conditions.

Outdoor spaces on LAUREL are inviting and versatile. Teak woodwork stretches to the horizon, beckoning guests to explore the many levels on which to take in the inspiring outdoors. The transom door acts as a swim platform and diving ledge for scuba enthusiasts. Two hull doors on the port and starboard sides allow easy deployment for tenders for day trips and travels to port. Also stowed here are sailboats, jet skis, and sea kayaks for water fun.

The interior features a sumptuous and soothing palette of golden neutrals. Color and texture unite, creating a sense of interior harmony throughout LAUREL. Each room features bright and brilliant artwork, adding vibrant expression throughout the yacht’s evocative interior spaces. Inside the main salon, handsome woodwork creates an atmosphere both stately and soothing. The airy sky lounge, with its cream walls and comfortable furniture, envelopes guests in natural light.

Superyacht Laurel's six-year global experience

The journey had begun in the spring of 2006, when 73 metre steel/composite Laurel was launched into the Squamish River at Delta Marine shipyards in Seattle, Washington, US and headed to Puget Sound for sea trials. She then made her way down the western coast of the US and Mexico, through the Panama Canal, and crossed the Atlantic for her first guest experience in the Mediterranean.

Purpose built for remote, expedition-style cruising, Laurel was the vision of experienced owners who assembled an expert team to design and construct a yacht that met their exacting criteria. Planned and fitted out to the smallest detail, Laurel's mission was to take her owners and guests around the world in ultimate comfort, with the utmost of ease and efficiency.

The owners were already adventurous, having cruised Alaska, Russia, the Baltic Sea, Galápagos Islands, and Canada in their 48 metre Feadship . Laurel would provide a larger platform, on which their exciting itineraries would not be compromised by weather conditions.

So it was, in 2006, that Laurel's owners came aboard in Venice, Italy and departed for the Croatian Adriatic to discover the enchanting ports, sun-kissed islands and ancient coastal towns that dot the Dalmatian Coast. Uncovering the best-kept secrets of this corner of the world, guests meandered through the cobblestone streets of medieval villages, visiting Roman ruins and enjoying fresh local seafood and produce.

Laurel cruised through the Kornati archipelago to the small fishing town of Vinice and on to the beautiful and historic towns of Trogir and Split. Ending the Croatian visit in the romantic, walled city of Stari Grad in Dubrovnik, Laurel made her departure for G reece and the Greek Islands.

To access the Greek isles Laurel had to pass through the three nautical mile-long Corinth Canal that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. The canal cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth that separates the Peloponnesian peninsula from the Greek mainland. At its base, this canal is only 21 metres wide, which meant navigating the 12.26 metre wide Laurel required extreme concentration from her captain, David Clarke.

"One important thing to learn when it comes to helm control is the ability to maintain a constant heading for a long period of time," he says. "Doing two to three knots for over an hour requires a high level of concentration and feel. This was not an uncommon situation as the owners loved to get up close and personal no matter where we were."

From Greece, Laurel travelled to Turkey and cruised along her western coast, through the Sea of Marmara and the 20 mile-long Bosphorus Strait that separates Europe from Asia. On reaching Istanbul, her guests toured the Old City, the Blue Mosque, the 6th century Hagia Sophia, and the amazing spice market.

Rounding out 2006 and her Adriatic and Mediterranean adventures in Italy and the south of France, Laurel crossed the Atlantic once again and spent time in the Caribbean, before making her way back through the Panama Canal, up the western coast of the United States to Alaska.

Navigating in and around ice flows and enormous icebergs in the fjords of Glacier Bay and Tracy Arm, Alaska, Captain Clarke positioned  Laurel  to within a quarter-mile of the face of a glacier and launched the tender and kayaks so the owners and guests could experience ice calving and catch a glimpse of speckled white harbour seals sleeping atop the icebergs.

Humpback whale sightings were daily, as the crew discovered a pod of 15m-plus humpbacks feeding on the small fish and krill. Once again the guests took to the water in the tender and kayaks to experience the thrill of the whales breaching and feeding around them.

The time passed quickly, and Laurel headed back through the Panama Canal, stopping along the Yucatan Peninsula before departing in early 2008 for the Society Islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Tahaa, Huahine and Bora Bora in French Polynesia .

Here  Laurel's  owners and guests experienced the perfect South Pacific island experience, from the bustling markets of Papeete to the tranquil family Black Pearl farms, and tracing the steps of Captain Cook in this area that is so rich with nautical history. Then it was on to the Tuamotu Archipelago.

Laurel navigated into the protected lagoons throughout this group of 78 atolls, through narrow passages in the reef, formed by prehistoric rivers that flowed from ancient volcanoes. The drift diving experiences here were amazing, with schools of dolphins, large predator fish, giant clams and current-riding turtles.

The highlight of the Tuamotu experience was a shark-feeding drift dive in the southern passage of the Fakarava Atoll. Each dive was more breathtaking than the last, and when the guests were ready to come aboard they simply surfaced at _Laurel_'s stern and climbed out of the water into her beach club.

After Fiji, Laurel went on to Australia and the kangaroos before travelling on to Papua New Guinea, to the north, where the guests arrived on board at the port of Alotau. Home of the largest intact rainforest outside of the Amazon, Papua New Guinea comprises more than 600 islands and boasts at least 800 indigenous languages.

Exploring the many villages and islands illustrated the warmth and friendliness of the Papua New Guinean people and their adeptness at handicrafts. Villagers often flocked to _Laure_l in their dugout canoes, selling their produce and fresh catch along with artefacts and carvings. The village children were treated to tender and Jet Ski rides with the crew and the guests even enjoyed a game of rugby with the villagers.

Laurel  spent several days cruising up the Sepik River where ceremonial painted faces, welcoming smiles and laughing children running along the water's edge will forever be embedded in her guests' memories. "Papua New Guinea was the most amazing place we have ever cruised," says Clarke. "The villages were very natural; the people were wonderful."

Across the Atlantic once again,  Laurel  made her way to Santana, Brazil, and the mouth of the Amazon River, to begin a 1,100 nautical mile trek up river to Manaus, where the owners joined. The dichotomy of this area -remote farming villages showing signs of commercialisation with concrete structures and incongruous satellite TV antennas - was in such stark contrast to the experience in Papua New Guinea that this expedition paled in comparison. "Perhaps if we had gone to the Amazon first," says Clarke, "it would have been a better experience."

In early 2009 in Patagonia, South America, Laurel performed her best in challenging conditions. The guests came aboard in the Straits of Magellan and  Laurel  then departed for the Beagle channel and the Chilean fjords of Tierra del Fuego.

They lunched near the face of a mile-long glacier beneath a 3,000 metre-high snow capped mountain amidst sea lions and penguins. Hiking, fly fishing, canoeing and whale watching were daily events here, but the power of the Southern Ocean in the famous Cape Horn region were indicative of just how unforgiving mother nature could be.

"We experienced very rough, windy conditions," says Clarke. "At times it was brutally cold, with a lot of fog, blowing 50 knots every two to three days. And then some days it was absolutely beautiful with blue skies."

Laurel's  side tender garages worked extremely well here, as it offered the ability to launch a tender quickly without having to lower the stern door. 'The owner could be aboard the tender in less than five minutes. "We didn't even have to drop anchor," says Clarke.

This kind of efficiency was well planned at the genesis of the Laurel build. "From the very beginning we knew we would be adventurous and had to get an operation in motion that would allow us to be extremely efficient," says Clarke.

Each and every itinerary was planned in 15-minute intervals and executed without fail to accommodate the owners' very busy schedule. "This kind of planning that is paramount when undertaking an itinerary even half as ambitious as _Laurel_'s. 'Have a general plan of where you want to go, how you'll get there and what you will do," advises Clarke.

"Also consider the visa requirements of your crew for the areas you wish to visit. Make sure you are complying with customs and immigration regulations and World Health Organisation requirements. A planned maintenance schedule is key on any yacht, but on adventurous yachts it allows you to control its maintenance, so it doesn't control you," continues Clarke. "Things tend to break at the most inopportune time.' Lau rel ca rried about £400,000 worth of spare parts on board."

Laurel  utilised a lot of local provisions during her travels and fuel was easily accessible, although outrageously expensive. During _Laurel'_'s busiest year of travel, 2007-2008, the price per barrel hit its highest levels and the fuel budget hit $2 million (£1.58 million) for the nearly 40,000 nautical miles travelled. 'There are some things you can't control, and the price of fuel is one of them.'

How To Buy A Yacht In Panama City, Panama

Panama City is the capital of Panama and located on the Pacific coast of the country. It’s known for its cobblestoned historic center, vibrant cafes and bars, and the Miraflores Locks, which offer views of ships traveling through the Panama Canal.

Panama City is often overlooked as a base to visit the canal or as a stopover to South America, but it actually offers plenty of activities and opportunities for visitors. This dynamic city seamlessly meshes modern and traditional cultures. Here you can visit Casco Viejo (a UNESCO World Heritage site), hike Cerro Ancon to spot wildlife, or embark on a fishing trip. As it’s surrounded by two major bodies of water, boating is a popular activity in Panama and there are plenty of opportunities to buy a boat in Panama City.

Miami-based yacht broker, Juno Prudhomm is experienced and knowledgeable in buying or selling a boat in Panama. We sat down with Juno to learn about his work and the process of buying a boat in Panama City.

Juno goes by the motto “the more you learn, the more you earn,” which has helped him move forward and be open to new opportunities. Over the years as a Denison yacht broker , Juno gained the experience and knowledge to guide clients through buying or selling a boat, not only within the United States but also in Panama City, Panama. So how did Juno end up with work in Central America?

“The first time I did business in Panama was to sell a Scout center console,” said Juno. “I sold the boat and built a good rapport with that particular client. Thanks to that connection and through an email blast, another client in Panama reached out to me and now I’m selling his sportfish.” 

By now, Juno understands the process and procedures of buying a boat in Panama and confidently guides clients through the entire process. To start, Juno recommends flying to Panama City to experience the destination and browse yachts in person. As of April 2021, a negative COVID-19 test is required for entry taken no more than 48 hours prior to arrival. A mask mandate is in effect for the entire country.

It’s an easy flight to Panama City from the United States — a 3 hour non-stop flight from Miami or a 6 hour non-stop flight from Los Angeles. There are plenty of hotel accommodations throughout Panama City that are safe and resort-style, such as the Hilton, Wyndham, The W, and Summit Rainforest & Golf Resort.

Once in Panama City, which boasts a skyline and waterfront similar to Miami, Juno will guide you through finding a boat that’s right for you. There’s a wide variety of inventory in Panama and plenty of boat owners who are motivated to sell. Sportfish and center consoles are popular and readily available in the area.

“Most of the sportfish yachts in Panama are in really great shape because they run with a full-time crew,” said Juno. “In my experience, the boats in Panama are usually in pristine condition in terms of a late model sportfish or late model center console. They’re also located in nice marinas.”

When you find a boat you like, it’s easy to get it hulled out in Panama City. Juno knows which marinas are suitable to hull the boat out of the water for an inspection or survey. Although he notes, there are not a lot of surveyors in the area and recommends an alternative option.

“My best recommendation is to find a surveyor in the U.S. and fly them over to Panama to perform a survey on the boat,” commented Juno. “It’s worth it to fly someone out and cover their accommodations, transportation, and food expenses while they inspect the boat.”

“It only takes about 5 business days to ship a boat from Panama City to the U.S. It’s an easy and standard process when dealing with customs and delivering the boat to the final destination,” said Juno. “I’m in the process of selling my third boat in Panama — 2 of the boats were shipped to the U.S., so I understand the process and can confidently guide clients through shipping and customs.”

Juno most recently sold a 54-foot Bertram convertible 2013 located in Panama with an asking price of $1,185,000. It was shipped from Panama City to Fort Lauderdale and is now heading to Japan.

But Juno’s not all work. He recommends that if you have the time, to experience fishing on the Pacific side of Panama, which he notes is phenomenal. 

“If you’re going to buy a boat in Panama City, plan a fishing trip while you’re there. It’s a really exotic destination with some of the best fishing I have ever done!” Juno commented.

St. Andrews Yacht Club is in the process of progress

P ANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club went up in flames back in November, this week the fire was reported to be accidental and the case is closed. Now yacht club members are figuring out their next steps.

St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club members are picking up the pieces and looking toward the future.

“The yacht club burned down November 12th back in 2023,” said Michael Wynn, St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club Commodore.

With the investigation into the fire now closed they are working on plans to rebuild.

“The membership here and as well as our community partnership have been working tirelessly to try and rebuild the club for the benefit of our community and our membership,” said Wynn.

The St Andrews Bay Yacht Club is in the process of progress, the club’s commodore says they are in the works of getting back on their feet from the fire. One of the ways they are doing so is by extending onto their sailing center.

“Since day one we’ve been dedicated to making sure that our staff have a place to come back to work and our loyal members who have been here for generations have a place where they can come enjoy,” said Wynn.

Wynn says what’s left of the yacht club will soon be torn down.

“We are hoping to unveil what the future is going to look like this summer,” said Wynn.

As they rebuild the city is making improvements in the area too. Earlier this year, we reported Panama City fire officials faced challenges extinguishing the flames due to nearby fire hydrants being out.

City leaders say they are in the process of fixing that problem.

“We have almost 2000 hydrants around the city,” said Jonathan Hayes, City manager of Panama City. “You know back at the end of last year around November we had 80 to 85 that were out. By the end of year, we [have] gotten that down to the low 70s and as of today we have around 53 or 52 that are out right now we have 53 out. hydrants being out is a normal part of infrastructure in any city or county.”

As the city addresses the hydrants, yacht club members look forward to new plans, and a new building, to celebrate in the future.

Club members say there is no final date for when the new club will be built, however, they are working as fast as they can.
