Superyacht Callisto is a testament to intelligent design. Merging classic style with modern flair, the 65 metre superyacht Callisto was launched in 2006 by Feadship in The Netherlands. Designed inside and out by Terence Disdale, with De Voogt Naval Architects working on the engineering and architecture package, Callisto was custom-built to provide everything an owner could ask for while providing a deceptive amount of space.

This superyacht is a vessel of understated sophistication, with subtle design elements which create the ideal life on the water.  The Terence Disdale interior is a subtle statement of style and comfort, while her exterior spaces offer al-fresco dining - enhanced by a MIchelen star chef on board - and the upper decks providing a more informal experience.

Her giant sundeck features Jacuzzi, boundless furniture to relax with friends or sunbathe, while her garage offers toys and tenders to get up close and personal with the water. Callisto can also accommodate up to 12 guests in six staterooms, including a full-beam master suite, three double cabins and two twins with en-suite facilities.

The 42.5m/139.5ft luxury yacht CALLISTO is an all-aluminium vessel built by Feadship and launched early April 2022. She is the sistership to the 65.2m/213.11ft luxury yacht of the same name, which was launched in 2006. The latest CALLISTO has naval architecture and exterior styling from De Voogt Naval Architects, and interiors by Sinot Naval Architecture & Design. The accommodation sleeps 10 guests in five en-suite cabins, and a professional crew of eight will keep everything in tip-top condition.

Designed for life outdoors, guests have plenty of choice for lounging and dining in safety and comfort. The lower deck swim platform is one such space, offering a large area for waterfront dining. The shaded main deck aft provides another casual lounging and dining space, and the bridge deck aft is laid out with seating, a table and sun loungers to savour the fresh air and sunshine. INTERIOR

The lower deck layout hosts the guest and crew accommodation, the engine room and a spacious tender garage in the stern.

The Master suite is forward on the main deck, followed by the galley and main foyer amidships, and the main salon behind.

The bridge deck consists of the helm station, Captain's cabin, foyer and skylounge.

Twin MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines each of 1,939 kW @ 2,450 rpm grant a maximum speed of 21 knots, a cruising speed of 12.5 knots and a range of 3,000 nautical miles at an economical 11 knots.

Yacht Accommodation

The accommodation sleeps a total of 10 guests over 5 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 2 VIP staterooms and 2 twin cabins. The Master suite is placed on the main deck forward and is full beam. The VIP staterooms and twin cabins re all placed on the lower deck. The talented crew of 8 will keep everything running smoothly throughout the cruise.

The award winning 42.5m/139'5" motor yacht 'Callisto' was built by Feadship in the Netherlands at their Aalsmeer shipyard. Her interior is styled by Dutch designer design house Sinot Yacht Design and she was delivered to her owner in June 2022. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of De Voogt.

Guest Accommodation

Callisto has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 suites comprising two VIP cabins. The supremely spacious full beam master suite features extensive storage space provided by the dressing room. She is also capable of carrying up to 9 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Callisto is built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 2000 M96L) 16-cylinder 2,636hp engines running at 2450rpm, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 21 knots with a range of up to 3,000 nautical miles from her 40,800 litre fuel tanks at 11 knots. Her water tanks store around 10,420 Litres of fresh water.

Environment | kids on the creek splashes back into eastport after three-year hiatus.

“Some kids live near the water here in Annapolis, but they don’t have access to the water,” she said. “With Kids on the Creek we hope to open children and their family’s eyes to what’s available in their backyard.”

Kids on the Creek — a free day of food, crafts and getting wet — was started in 2018 by the Spa Creek Conservancy, a nonprofit focused on making the creek swimmable and fishable again. It returns after a few years’ hiatus on Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Eastport Yacht Club. The event is open to kids who are 5 and older, no registration needed.

The event was paused for the past several years due to the closure of water access at Truxton Park. While boats can still load into and out of the water from there, the county had deemed it unsafe for swimming due to bacteria levels.

Virgina Tippee, Eastport Yacht Club coordinator for Kids on the Creek and a retired oceanographer, said while she will miss having the event at Truxton Park, she is looking forward to hosting it at the yacht club.

“It will be a great opportunity for kids to experience the water through swimming, paddle boarding kayaking and boating,” she said.

The day is about introducing children to the wonders of waterways and giving them a deeper connection to the environment around them.

“We started Kids on the Creek because we wanted all kids to have the opportunity to get out on the creek and enjoy it,” Jefferson said “Our thinking is that if they enjoy it then they will have more concern about it and eventually help us clean it up.”

Jefferson expects around 150 children to participate.

Activities will teach kids about animals that live in the creek and how to keep the creek healthy. A biologist and other waterway professionals will also be on hand to talk about the Bay, Jefferson said.

Capital SUP, a standup paddle board and kayak rental business in Arnold, will provide water equipment.

Kevin Haigis, owner of Capital SUP,  is a believer that more public water access is needed, especially in Annapolis, so he has worked with Spa Creek Conservancy since Kids on the Creek started.

“There’s so much waterfront and so much has been privatized,” he said. “Its been a joy to coordinate with Spa Creek Conservancy and Eastport Yacht Club to help provide access.”

Mike Gouveris - Captain Captain Mike Gouveris was born in Athens on June 12, 1987. For the past 10 years he has worked as a skipper in various monohulls and catamaran sailing yachts and he has also spent 10 months as an Apprentice Officer in a 180000 DTW Bulk carrier, cape size ship in south, north Atlantic and north Pacific oceans during 2010. Moreover, he has been enthusiastically involved in yacht deliveries from France to Greece. Mike is a graduate of computer and network engineer College (2008) and an alumnus of the Captains Merchant Marine Academy of Greece. He is a graduate of OTE P.S.C offshore sailing school, as well as a graduate of Marine National School of life saving and firefighting procedure and equipment. He also holds diving diploma. Although sailing is his great passion, Mike also enjoys photography, video and directing. His impressive sailing experience around the bays and the small islands of the Greek Archipelago, his fine manners and his sense of humor are just a few of his charismas. Chef: Myran Yaghjian Super Yacht custom made furniture designer and Interior designer for 15 years, owner of his own furniture construction factory, awarded with the International Gold Star for Quality .Graduated ‘Le Monde’ Institute of Hotel and Tourism Studies in Athens as a Professional Food Production Chef . Before joining Callisto's team she has served on board S/Y Mediterranean Sea and Dimitra K as Chef's Assistant. Her passion for her job and the sea along with her attention to detail makes her a great asset for Callisto's crew. When she's not seeking to upgrade her skills, Konstantina enjoys reading literature and traveling Nikos Arvanitopoulos- Sailor Nikos was born in 1995 and has been involved in the yachting industry since 2017 when he started looking after the maintenance of a private yacht in the shipyard. The next season, he started working as a deckhand on a commercial yacht and have sailed both in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea. Holding an Open seas and speedboat's license along with his degree as PLS Engineer makes him an asset for Callisto's already exceptional crew. Nikos speaks English and Greek.

USS Sachem (SP-192): ‘The Ghost Ship’ That Served in Both World Wars and Now Sits Abandoned in the Wilderness

There are many abandoned ships across the United States, but few have as storied a history as the USS Sachem (SP-192), which also went by the names USS Phenakite (PYc-25), Celt , Sightseer , Circle Line V and, today, The Ghost Ship (yeah, it's a bit much). A relic of the early 1900s, the yacht was twice acquired by the US Navy, transforming her from a luxury vessel into one that was worthy of serving her country in the midst of conflict.

From luxury steam yacht to US Navy patrol yacht

The USS Sachem 's story begins in 1901, when the ship was ordered by railroad engineer J. Rogers Maxwell. Constructed by Pusey & Jones out of Wilmington, Delaware, the vessel, under the name Celt , was launched in April of the next year, and she served as a luxury steam yacht up until the United States entered the First World War .

With the outbreak of the conflict, the US Navy began looking for civilian ships to commandeer for coastal defense, as the Germans had begun attacking supply lines between America and Europe. Celt was one such vessel to be acquired for military service , being renamed Sachem .

USS Sachem (SP-192) during World War I

The USS Sachem subsequently underwent modifications, which saw her sides raised to allow her to become more seaworthy, the removal of her masts and the sealing of her ornate brass, the addition of navigational equipment and the fringing of the yacht's portholes. A new complement of armament was also provided, to ensure she and her crew could fight against any enemy presence in the Atlantic. This featured:

• Depth charge racks
• One Ordnance QF Hotchkiss six-pounder deck gun
• Two QF three-pounder Hotchkiss deck guns
• Two light machine guns

Sachem served with the Third Maritime District during the early part of her naval service, patroling the East Coast, down to the Caribbean. In 1917, she was turned into a "floating laboratory" by famed inventor Thomas Edison , who conducted a number of experiments in his quest to develop effective U-boat countermeasures.

By the time the First World War came to an end, Sachem hadn't experienced active combat, nor had she reported a confirmed sighting of an enemy submarine. For her and her crew's service during the conflict, the yacht received the World War I Victory Medal.

Interwar period

Following the conclusion of the First World War, the USS Sachem was returned to Manton B. Metcalf, who'd purchased the vessel from J. Rogers Maxwell's wife following his death. It was later sold to Roland L. Taylor, a Philadelphia-based banker who used the yacht as an at-sea rum runner ship during Prohibition .

In 1932, in the early years of the Great Depression , Taylor sold Sachem to Jacob Martin of Brooklyn, New York. Looking to earn some money during the economic downtown, he operated the yacht with dual purposes; along with serving as a deep-sea fishing vessel, she also earned a fair amount of money as a luxury passenger ship.

Renamed the USS Phenakite (PYc-25) during World War II

Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the US Navy, again, began looking for civilian vessels to help in America's defense. In February 1942, the service reacquired the USS Sachem for $65,000, transiting her to Robert Jacobs, Inc. in City Island, New York for modifications. These included new equipment; speed, armor and visibility upgrades; and a newer gray-haze paint scheme.

Just like in World War I, Sachem , by then re-designated the USS Phenakite , saw various types of armament installed on her deck. The weapons added this time around were:

• One three-inch/23-caliber deck gun
• One Thompson submachine gun
• Two Mark VI depth charge racks
• Four M2 Browning machine guns for anti-aircraft defense

Phenakite spent the first part of her renewed service with the Navy patroling the East Coast, under the command of Lt. John D. Lennon. In late 1944, she underwent a refit, which saw her use widen to also include convoy escort and sonar system testing as part of the Fleet Sonar School Squadron and the Key West Squadron.

Similar to the earlier conflict, the yacht didn't see active combat. That being said, her crew received both the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. Following the conflict, she was decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register.

Left abandoned in a Kentucky creek

Following World War II, Jacob Martin purchased the USS Phenakite back from the US Navy for $5,353. She was then sold to the Circle Line in New York City, serving as a tour boat under the name Circle Line V until 1983.

In 1986, Cincinnati, Ohio, resident Robert Miller purchased the yacht for $7,500. After a celebratory weekend in New York City over the July 4 long weekend, which saw the vessel make a cameo in the music video for Madonna 's " Papa Don't Preach ," Miller journeyed back to his home along the Ohio-Kentucky border. He subsequently moored the ship at the mouth of Taylor Creek, in Boone County, Kentucky, where she's remained ever since.

Unable to afford the upkeep of the yacht, Miller left her to rust away in the water. While on private property, what remains of the vessel has become a popular sight for kayakers and canoers traveling along Taylor Creek. Given her decrepit state, she has since been dubbed "The Ghost Ship."

Sanctioned Russian oligarch’s megayacht hides in a UAE creek

RAS AL-KHAIMAH, United Arab Emirates (AP) — In the dusty, northern-most sheikhdom of the United Arab Emirates, where laborers cycle by rustic tea shops, one of the world’s largest yachts sits in a quiet port — so far avoiding the fate of other luxury vessels linked to sanctioned Russian oligarchs.

The display of lavish wealth is startling in one of the UAE’s poorest emirates, a 90-minute drive from the illuminated high-rises of Dubai. But the 118-meter (387-foot) Motor Yacht A’s presence in a Ras al-Khaimah creek also shows the UAE’s neutrality during Russia’s war on Ukraine as the Gulf country remains a magnet for Russian money and its oil-rich capital sees Moscow as a crucial OPEC partner .

Since Russian tanks rolled into Ukraine, the seven sheikhdoms of the Emirates have offered a refuge for Russians, both those despairing of their country’s future as well as the mega-wealthy concerned about Western sanctions .

While much of the world has piled sanctions on Russian institutions and allies of President Vladimir Putin, the Emirates has not. It also avoids overt criticism of the war, which government readouts still refer to as the “Ukraine crisis.”

The Motor Yacht A belongs to Andrey Melnichenko, an oligarch worth some $23.5 billion, according to Forbes. He once ran the fertilizer producer Eurochem and SUEK, one the the world’s largest coal companies.

The European Union in March included Melnichenko in a mass list of sanctions on business leaders and others described as close to Putin. The EU sanctions noted he attended a Feb. 24 meeting Putin held the day of the invasion.

“The fact that he was invited to attend this meeting shows that he is a member of the closest circle of Vladimir Putin and that he is supporting or implementing actions or policies which undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, as well as stability and security in Ukraine,” the EU said at the time.

Melnichenko resigned from the corporate positions he held in the two major firms, according to statements from the companies. However, he has criticized Western sanctions and denied being close to Putin.

Melnichenko could not be reached for comment through his advisers.

Already, authorities in Italy have seized one of his ships — the $600 million Sailing Yacht A. France, Spain and Britain as well have sought to target superyachts tied to Russian oligarchs as part of a wider global effort to put pressure on Putin and those close to him.

But the $300 million Motor Yacht A so far appears untouched. It flew an Emirati flag on Tuesday when Associated Press journalists observed the ship. Two crew members milled around the deck.

The boat’s last recorded position on March 10 put it off the Maldives in the Indian Ocean, just over 3,000 kilometers (1,860 miles) from Ras al-Khaimah. Satellite images from Planet Labs PBC analyzed by the AP show the vessel in Ras al-Khaimah’s creek beginning March 17, a week later.

The Financial Times first reported on the ship’s presence in the UAE .

Authorities in Ras al-Khaimah did not respond to a request for comment on the yacht’s presence. The UAE’s Foreign Ministry did not answer questions about the ship, but said in a statement to the AP that it takes “its role in protecting the integrity of the global financial system extremely seriously.”

But so far, the UAE has taken no such public action targeting Russia. The country abstained on a U.N. Security Council vote in February condemning Russia’s invasion , angering Washington.

The neutral response may stem from “the financial gain we’re seeing in Dubai in terms of new tourist arrivals, and Russian efforts to move assets and buy property,” said Karen Young, a senior fellow at the Washington-based Middle East Institute.

The flow of Russian money — both legitimate and shady — is now an open secret in Dubai, where lavish hotels and beaches increasingly bustle with Russian speakers. State-run radio hosts cheerily describe a massive influx.

The UAE became one of the few remaining flight corridors out of Moscow. The Emirati government offered three-month multiple-entry visas upon arrival to all Russians, allowing major companies to easily transfer their employees from Moscow to Dubai. The private jet terminal at Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central has seen a 400% spike in traffic, the airport’s CEO recently told the AP .

Real estate agents have reported a surge of interest from Russians seeking to buy property in Dubai , particularly in the skyscrapers of Dubai Marina and villas on the Palm Jumeirah.

For those who want to move to the UAE, buying high-end property also helps secure a visa.

“Business is booming right now,” said Thiago Caldas, CEO of the Dubai-based property firm Modern Living, which now accepts cryptocurrency to facilitate sales with new Russian clients. “They have a normal life and don’t face restrictions.”

Caldas said inquiries from Russian clients in Dubai have multiplied by over 10 since the war, forcing his firm to hire three Russian-speaking agents to deal with the deluge.

With sanctions on Russian banks and businesses thwarting many citizens’ access to foreign capital, Russians are increasingly trying to bypass bank transfers through digital currencies in Dubai, said two cryptocurrency traders in the city, where they’re able to liquidate large sums of cash.

“It’s a safe haven. … The inflow from Russian accounts skyrocketed 300% days after the war in Ukraine began,” said a Russian crypto trader in Dubai, who spoke like the other on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala state investment company remains among the most active sovereign wealth funds in Russia, along with those of China and Qatar, according to calculations by Javier Capapé of IE University in Spain for the AP.

But pressure is growing. Late on Tuesday, the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi posted a strongly worded video message in solidarity with Ukraine featuring local ambassadors from the world’s leading democracies as Russia’s foreign minister visits the region.

“We are united against Russia’s unjustifiable, unprovoked and illegal aggression,” said Ernst Peter Fischer, Germany’s ambassador to the UAE.
