You awake in one of two master suites, one on the upper deck with 180 degree views forward and the other on the main deck. Head for the upper deck aft for a delicious breakfast before settling in the sun lounge aft to discuss the day's plans with the captain. If the morning heat is too intense, start the day in the air conditioned main saloon at the formal dining table and make plans in the lounge opposite.

After breakfast, the children race eagerly down to the portside swim platform where the deck crew has prepared all the watertoys for a morning adrenaline rush. Other guests may choose to work out in the gym, or for an easier start to the day, head for the sauna and hammam where there is a massage table too.

In the afternoon, while the captain sails you to the next amazing destination, enjoy a movie in the main deck cinema lounge or catch up on some emails in the private owner's office on the bridge deck.

As dusk falls in your new anchorage, take in the spectacular sunset with a sundowner in the foredeck lounge and toast another amazing day before sampling the chef's gastronomic extravaganza on the upper deck aft.

If you’re looking to fall in love, is there really any other yacht charters destination than Venice? Set along the Adriatic Sea, this water-locked Italian city truly is best explored by boat. The city does not permit cars. A yacht’s tender is well suited for traversing the canals here. Your charter yacht will dock at one of the city’s marinas as you set off on an adventure winding through the streets of this maze-like city. Visit the Piazza St. Marco with its stunning basilica. Pop in Harry’s Bar for a Bellini and enjoy some of the city’s incredible cuisine – any seafood dish will delight. The eastern Italian coast also has so much to offer from the Ancona islands in the south to Trieste in the north, all of which offer unique cultures.

Navigating the wonders of Croatia and Montenegro on a luxury charter yacht

If you choose to head further east, Croatia and Montenegro sit on the opposite side of the Adriatic. Both destinations offer incredible culture, sights, cruising locales and so much more. Perfectly poised on the Dalmatian Coast, Croatia is fast becoming a favorite destination. If you are a history buff or a fan of “Game of Thrones,” then stepping ashore in Dubrovnik will be a true highlight of your trip. In the location of GOT’s Kings Landing, you will be transported to a medieval fortress, but don’t be misled by its ancient aesthetics, this coastal city has lots of modern amenities, including restaurants, spas, bars and more. Montenegro offers calm waters and stunning scenery. You will discover how old meets new in the Bay of Kotor as quaint fishing villages sit across from world-class marinas, high-end restaurants and glamorous bars. Take in these stunning sights and more from the sundeck of your charter yacht during an Adriatic charter.

A Private Cruise Through the Croatian Adriatic’s Shades of Blue

adriatic blue yacht owner

Explore the Croatian Adriatic’s unique shades of blue with Goolet.

Split, Saints and Superyachts

The city of Split was like a ruler laid on the seafront, a manmade copy of the crown of mountain rock that crested the city and the tight, crescent-shaped port. That was my view, standing mid-deck of a yacht in that port, when I heard a voice behind me.

“Anything else?” It was Branco, the ship’s steward. At first, I wasn’t sure what he meant. In one hand I had a gin and tonic, in the other, a plate of cheese and Dalmatian prosciutto. In the crook of my arm, I had a book of short stories, and sticking from my pocket was a pair of binoculars. Anything else didn’t seem possible.

I thought back to what a friend had told me about Croatian hospitality. Warm but simple, he’d said: a country of farmers and fishermen. “Think of it as going to your family. You’ll be treated well, but don’t expect any above and beyond.” That no longer seemed true; it was all above and beyond.

adriatic blue yacht owner

I was traveling on Ohana, a charter mini-cruiser owned and captained by Josip Šerka and chartered by luxury operator Goolets. The ship was 160 feet of steel hull, one of Goolet’s six new Dalmatico Super (DS) Yachts touring the Dalmatian Coast—slow cruising superyachts that serve more people while using less fuel. A recent refurbishment had streamlined her interior, leaving 14 cabins—with two master suites and a VIP stateroom—a cinema, a children’s playroom and a fresh coat of azure paint.

Typical of a Goolets charter, there was no set itinerary; we could go as we pleased. That meant an easy jaunt around the islands beyond Split, chasing the sun.

adriatic blue yacht owner

Branco’s offer was only a taste of what was to come that night—a dinner of tuna steak and Croatian white wine, and fifteen-year-old Speyside whisky on deck as the night fell. The wind had picked up—a white bora, Branco told me, that came from the mainland, and would bring clear skies the next day.

He was right. It was a bluebird morning as we passed through the Split gates. From out the plane window, the islands had had the look of pancake batter spilled from the ladle—golden and crusty-edged against the blue pan of the Adriatic. But now, beside them at sea level, they seemed so close to one another, the open sea came as a surprise. There is always land; one island, then another, and another, and then, beyond it all, the distant blue shadow of the mainland.

The island of Brač was lumpen and foreboding, pine grove on taupe rock, with long, looping roads cuts into the hillsides. Mostly they led to farms—orderly columns of olive trees and grape vines, oil and wine being the two products of Brač . Tiny farmhouses sprung into view from behind folds in the hills and terraced valleys. We passed the pencil-point of Zlatni Rat, an apricot pebble beach poking out into the turquoise water. In this sluice between Brač and Hvar, the wind could be wicked, and there were kite surfers taking advantage, rising with their kites, and whirling with their boards in the air.

adriatic blue yacht owner

We anchored and took the dingy into Bol for some time ashore. After the evening on board, I was eager to stretch my legs, and there was just enough time to make the four-mile round trip to the top of Vidova Gora mountain. The noontime bells of the church were playing a galloping tune, and the smell of garlic and fried rice poured from open windows as I climbed up and out of the town. Striding past bluebells and poppies, I reached the summit. Below me were the banded hills of grey and olive green, and, at the shoreline, the nubbin of Zlatni Rat dotted with umbrellas and sunbathers.

Returning to the boat, lunch was, as always, hot and ready, the drinks cool and clinking. Slow-roasted pork belly, and large prawns cooked Buzara-style, in garlic and white wine. And Branco, quick with the ready bottle, attentive to the last.

adriatic blue yacht owner

We sailed through the afternoon to the island of Vis arriving into the horseshoe bay just as evening came, and the air cooled and the light became soft, turning the pale rock used to build the town into a blaze of gold. I strolled along the harbor, thick with masts, listening to the birdsongs of goldfinch, linnet and Eurasian sisken. The view out over the port from the baroque Church of St. Spirit was fine; what was great was sitting at the doorway and listening to the half-dozen babas within singing, and smelling the bubble gum of two young girls who whispered harshly to each other at the threshold until they were shooed away.

Vis was full of children and music. Children played a game of soccer down a side alley, minded little stands selling painted rocks, and fished off a narrow wooden pier. A young woman sat on the seawall doing needlepoint and listening to tamburica folk songs. A woman on the street sat with a display of music boxes for sale. I turned one crank and heard “O Sole Mio,” another was the Beatles “In My Life.”

Croatia has many saints, and a few I might have chosen that would have fit one of my past lives. There was Saint Jerome, patron of translators, and Saint Marinus the protector of bachelors. Aloysius Stepinac attends to students and farmers. But on this weekend cruise, I preferred Saint Vitus, the patron saint of sleeping in. When I awoke the next morning, we were already underway, and the island of Hvar appeared over my morning coffee and yogurt.

adriatic blue yacht owner

The Dalmatian Coast was once the domain of the Republic of Venice. Like Brač and Vis, Hvar was styled in the Venetian way—angular high, rectangular spires, archways and warehouses that spoke of some long-ago industriousness. Hvar town is given over to leisure now, the restaurants spilling onto the sunny cobbled streets, and happy crowds, their faces furrowed by the sun, climbing up to the curvy Fortica Fortress, and browsing the market stalls selling bags of lavender and filigreed gold jewelry.

Ohana was anchored in a protected inlet, the water so clear, the seafloor was visible even from the top deck. The ship had a plethora of toys—an inflatable kayak, a paddleboard, a sea-bob, a self-propelling surfboard—but I chose the Sea-Doo, small and versatile, something to give me speed and distance. I rode away from the ship, stopping before ducking behind an island, to turn about-face. There was Ohana, sleek and clean, and almost camouflaged against the island; its blue hull, brown trim, and white decks blended against the water, the flotsam, and the rock of the island.

adriatic blue yacht owner

I drove on, beyond the islands, toward the greater Adriatic. The water was continually new, inventing itself below me. Sometimes I was against the current, sometimes with it; sometimes ahead of the waves, sometimes behind. In places, the water was still, in others rippled or mottled. I felt as though I were not five feet above it, but one thousand. Finally, I stopped, the only sound the clop of water against my machine. The endless sea was ahead of me—the domain of St. Vitus, with no one, nowhere, to tell me what to do.

A week-long charter of Ohana for up to 30 guests costs between 90,000 – 120,000 Euros.

Breathtaking views

The adriatic, clear skies – clear waters, a million shades of blue..

The Adriatic coast is full of rich history and serene beauty, which has helped rank it as one of the trendiest yachting destinations. Magnificent white limestone cliffs give way to the Adriatic Sea’s azure waters. From Slovenia in the north, along the Croatian and Italian shores, down to the tiny jewels of Montenegro , Macedonia , and Albania , until Greece at the southern tip, the Adriatic has it all. A luxury yacht charter provides you with a first-row seat to Venetian steeples, Roman ruins, Greek fortresses, blue grottos, melt-in-your-mouth seafood, and aromatic wines.

Situated mainly between Italy and Croatia, the Adriatic Sea is the third-longest coast in the Mediterranean , right after Greece and Italy. The shimmering waters are a key feature of the picturesque shoreline, which is characterized by unparalleled clarity and intoxicating shades of blue. There are few seas as beautifully blue as the Adriatic, boasting shades from deep royal blue to glistening turquoise and everything in between.

You will be truly spoiled swimming in the Adriatic waters because the sea is so clear that, most of the time, you can see the seafloor right below you. Indulge in the sublimity of the Adriatic Sea and all of the beauty that the coast has to offer with your dream luxury yacht charter!

Discover The Magic Of The Adriatic: Charter Destination Tips For Captains

adriatic blue yacht owner

Spanning from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro to Albania, you may be surprised at the Adriatic region. Whether you crave history and culture, vibrant nightlife, breathtaking scenery, or exclusive islands and beaches reachable only by yacht, Superyacht Content dives into the appeal of Adriatic charter destinations for Captains, yacht owners, guests and crew.

Adriatic charter destinations

Spanning 750 kilometres from Trieste to the Salento peninsula, the Italian Adriatic coast is an underrated gem. With marinas in Trieste, Bari, Brindisi and Rimini you’ll have access to over 130 islands, including the renowned Burano and Murano.

Explore Italy’s network of Parchi nazionali and its diverse landscapes all the way south. Matera, Taranto and Venice, known as Hollywood filming locations, add an extra touch of glamour to any yacht charter. Numerous shipyards cater to yacht building and refit services. From Trieste to Chioggia, Ravenna, Pesaro, Fano, Ancona and Pescara, the Italian Adriatic coast welcomes owners and crew with its world-class services and facilities.

adriatic blue yacht owner

Despite its small size, Slovenia boasts a rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes and a vibrant culinary scene.  Along the 47-kilometre Slovenian coast, you’ll find boat yard services at Marina Portorož and Izola Marina. Slovenia’s strategic location serves as an entryway to the northern Adriatic, with plenty to discover in historic towns such as Piran and Koper.

Adriatic charter destinations

A popular destination for motor yachts and sailing, Croatia offers a mix of cultural richness, impressive gastronomy, and over 1000 picturesque islands and natural parks.  With a coastline extending over 1,800 kilometres from Istria to Dubrovnik, yachts have plenty to see and do, alongside maintenance support at shipbuilding hubs at Rijeka and Šibenik. Tristan Mortlock, Director of Mortlock Yachts and MCA Master 3000 Captain, enthuses about Croatia’s variety of experiences:

“Croatia is one of my favourite cruising regions.  You can be in a busy city such as Split or Dubrovnik with thousands of tourists and then within one hour be anchored in a quiet bay. One of my recommendations is Tito’s Island – the Brijuni National Park is a great place where you can zip around on golf carts, visit the safari park or discover the archaeological ruins and prehistoric sights.”

Croatia is made for island-hopping and exploring authentic cities – take in unspoilt national parks, remote coves, medieval towns or wine country with visits to Brač, Dubrovnik, Korčula, Pag, Pula, Split, Trogir or Zadar.  It’s difficult to pick one highlight.

Ivan Rakuljic from 50-metre M/Y Freedom welcomes guests to discover his Croatian picks:

“My favourite charter spots are Sušac, Vis and Hvar.”

Bosnia & Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s coastline centres around the town of Neum. This small stretch offers pebbly beaches, clear water and a base to discover more activities and experiences.

Step ashore to discover the history of Mostar or Sarajevo.

“Porto Montenegro has been built to accommodate even the biggest yachts in the world – there’s great service, excellent shopping for leading brands duty free and a lot of amenities for both crew and guests,”

says Dejan Janković, Operations Manager and Managing Partner at Yacht Agent Montenegro.

“Portonovi Marina, just across the bay from Porto Montenegro, with a One & Only hotel as part of the project has been open for a couple years now and it’s a dedicated area for yachts up to 70-metres for a comfortable stay. On the outside part of the bay and its natural protection, Luštica Bay, marina and residences is developing one of the best golf projects in this part of Europe. Although smaller in capacity and being able to accommodate yachts up to 40-metres it is a lovely place and the future residences that will overlook both the open sea and inner part of the bay will be amazing. Also, the former prison island of Mamula is part of their project which is very interesting for all guests.”

Blessed with beautiful landscapes, upscale amenities, modern marinas and picturesque places such as Sveti Stefan in front of the Budva old town, Montenegro’s appeal as a yachting destination is growing. Yachts are well taken care of with world-class marina amenities and shopping, provisioning can be done in almost every marina and port with availability of most items that even the most demanding clients need and refit services are in place at the Adriatic 42 facility in Montenegro.

Alexander Coles, Senior Charter Broker at Bespoke Yacht Charter, shared his in-depth knowledge about Adriatic yacht charters including his recommendations for Montenegro:

“Kotor is a wonderful walled city with stunning buildings, churches and palaces.  I recommend the restaurant at Hotel Vardar; lovely location in the main square in the old town and super food. The staff like most staff in Montenegro are utterly charming! Also Galion, a wonderful fish restaurant with amazing views of the bay and the old town. Don’t miss Perast in the Bay of Kotor – a very pretty place for a walk and lunch. There’s a restaurant on the sea called Armonia that is one of my favourite restaurants anywhere. Great staff and the fish is amazing. Also the islets of St George and Our Lady of the Rocks opposite Perast are fascinating and definitely something to see when you are there.”

adriatic blue yacht owner

Unlike some more frequented yachting destinations, Albania remains relatively undiscovered by mass tourism. Albania’s Adriatic coast extends for 450 kilometres and includes the coastal hubs of Durrës and good infrastructure and facilities at Saranda.

The Albanian Riviera is the focal point for maritime life, beaches and water sports.   If you have the time, it’s worth stepping ashore: Visit Himarë with plenty of restaurants (head up to the castle just inland), or Krorëza Beach, accessible by boat. For beach club vibes, head to Dhermi that has a relatively upmarket vibe with beach bars and seaside restaurants.

The Adriatic region, with its varied landscapes and culturally rich heritage, is ideal for yacht charter and any visitor will realise it truly has it all – history, great food, outdoor experiences and excellent services and amenities for superyachts.

Superyacht Content is participating as a Media Partner at the Superyacht Summit Adria taking place on April 18th at the Radisson Blu in Split, Croatia. Captains attending the event can contact the event organisers for a special rate.

Exiled russian oligarch’s 257’ superyacht amaryllis seen towed through palm beach.

The Amaryllis being towed past the former mansion of Henry Flagler, built in 1902

By John Jannarone and Alan Hatfield

The 257’ superyacht Amaryllis apparently owned by exiled Russian oligarch Andrey Borodin was towed past Palm Beach, FL on Friday morning, according to a visual account by CorpGov .

The yacht, whose owner is frequently cited as Mr. Borodin by enthusiast publications, moved slowly through the Lake Worth lagoon where bridges were raised for its passage. A towboat with flashing lights about 150 feet ahead pulled the Amaryllis , built by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 2011.

While CorpGov could not officially confirm Mr. Borodin as the owner of the vessel, his wife, socialite Tatiana Korsakova, has posted dozens of Instagram photos and videos aboard the Amaryllis. A yacht broker interviewed by CorpGov confirmed that Ms. Korsakova is indeed aboard the Amaryllis in the photos and videos.

The sighting comes as billions of dollars in Russian-owned yachts have been seized around the world as a result of international sanctions. CNN has published an extensive list of seized vessels, which were taken in harbor cities including Mallorca, Spain and London.

However, it is unclear if the Amaryllis was being seized or voluntarily towed. Very large yachts often choose to be towed because bridges are required to raise for them, according to the yacht broker.

The former Bank of Moscow chief was granted political asylum in the UK in February 2013 after fleeing what he alleged to be politically-motivated fraud and embezzlement charges. Mr. Borodin would go on to be tried and convicted in abstentia in Russian Court in 2018, but not before managing to enlist a number of prominent American lawmakers to lobby Washington for a U.S. visa. Despite Russian extradition requests to the UK government, Borodin’s controversial attempts to make large donations to the NHS, and the uncovering of an assassination plot against his life, the fugitive banker remains overseas, having been granted access to his Swiss bank accounts and having made several notable London real estate purchases during his time in exile.

Mr. Borodin is widely listed as a billionaire, but his total wealth remains difficult to confirm accurately, with the governments of Switzerland and the Bahamas having been asked to help the Russian government in its legal case. In 2012, Borodin purchased the UK’s then-most expensive home, an 80-hectare 18th-century estate in Oxfordshire, for upwards of $217 million. In 2017 he was granted access to personal Swiss accounts holding a reported $378 million. The Amaryllis was purchased for a reported $120 million.

Mr. Borodin did not immediately respond to an emailed query from CorpGov , while the FBI declined to comment. An emailed query to The Department of Homeland Security was not returned.
