Alpha Custom Yachts is adding another superyacht to its small but mighty fleet.

The nascent Turkish yard, which was founded by brothers Roberto and Jorge Aboumrad in 2017, started off building one custom vessel for a client, but now has six different models in the mix. The latest doubles as the new flagship of the award-winning Spritz line.

Penned by Giorgio Cassetta Design Studio and Laurent Giles Naval Architects, the Spritz 116 spans, you guessed it, 116 feet and sits neatly between a 102- and 140-foot model in the range. Like its two predecessors, the sleek vessel is focused on functionality and maximizing space onboard.

The plunge pool aft doubles as a dancefloor when covered.  Alpha Custom Yachts

Featuring a lightweight composite hull, which can be finished in either white or handsome navy, the 116-footer has a beam of 29.6 feet and a draft of just over 6 feet at full load. No power or propulsion specs were provided as of writing.

Designed by Paola Aboumrad, the 260 GT interior can be tailored to each seafarer’s needs. As standard, the layout comprises an owner’s suite, two VIPs and a couple of guest cabins. You can expect floating walls and ceilings, expansive windows, full-size closets and ensuites that are “reminiscent of a spa.”

Outside, meanwhile, it’s all about the aft deck. It sports a large alfresco dining space with a lengthy marble table, a wet bar, two TVs and a surround sound system. This area flows onto a beach club below, which is fitted with a plunge pool that pulls double duty as a dancefloor when covered by its teak top. There’s also a hydraulically operated swim platform for direct access to the ocean.

Elsewhere, the flybridge, which spans roughly 1,000 feet, is equipped with a dining table, bar and lounge, while the foredeck offers enough space for a couple of Jet Skis.

The first Spritz 116 is currently under construction and due for launch in the spring of 2023. The yard also has a number of other yachts in build. Perhaps Alpha’s fleet is not so small, after all.

Alpha Custom Yachts debuts Spritz 140 tri-deck concept

Alpha Custom Yachts has debuted a new 42.60 metre trideck concept named Spritz 140. The yacht has been penned inside and out by Italian designer Giorgio Cassetta with naval architecture by Laurent Giles . 

The exterior of the yacht is defined by a near-vertical bow and vast expanses of glass for a modern profile. Each level of the tri-deck features an outdoor social area with al fresco dining and lounge areas as well as a beach club with a swimming platform offering direct access to the water.

Other outdoor features include a drinks bar, barbecue grill and a deck shower for washing off saltwater after a day in the sea. The bow offers storage for three Jet Skis, which can be deployed with a crane.

Inside, the interiors are light and airy thanks to the vast windows. On board spaces are finished in a contemporary style with metallic and marble finishes paired with light wood joinery, but owners can chose from a variety of templates for their preferred interior and exterior colour schemes.

Accommodations can host up to 12 guests in six cabins and there is room for 11 crew in six cabins. For formal entertaining, there is a dining table for 12 guests and a wine cellar in the main saloon. Other features include a dedicated gym space with private access from the master cabin.

Powered by MAN V12 1,650hp engines, the Spritz 140 can reach top speeds of 16.5 knots with a cruising range of 3,300 nautical miles at 10 knots.

According to the Milan-based shipyard, production has already begun on the series. The Spritz 140 shortly follows the announcement of a 35 metre Spritz 116 model which joined the line-up earlier this month.

Dension Unveils Key Features of Alpha Yachts' New SPRITZ 116

Yacht broker Denison Yachting has revealed details of a new yacht from the growing family-owned shipyard Alpha Custom Yachts. The new 35.5m Spritz 116 features interior and exterior design from renowned yacht designer Giorgio Cassetta, as well as naval architecture from the esteemed studio of Laurent Giles.

Growing yacht builder Alpha Custom Yachts has teamed up with Denison Yachting  to showcase its latest superyacht design. David Johnson of Denison Yachting has become the exclusive representative of Alpha Custom Yachts in North America.

Despite being a smaller brand, Alpha has quickly become recognised for its ‘ elegant, unique and innovative’ yachts. According to Dension, the yard’s new-build vessels are completely customisable by the owner, as such,  ‘with Alpha Yachts, the world really is your oyster’. 

Brothers and founders of Alpha Yachts, Roberto and Jorge Aboumrad, create the vessels from their personal experience in yacht design and technicalities, producing yachts that benefit from space maximisation, contemporary, aesthetic design, as well as engineering excellence. Their latest design of 35.5m motor yacht Spritz 116, is a remarkable example of the work they aim to achieve. 

Comfortably accommodating ten guests across four expansive staterooms and one luxurious full-beam master cabin, Spritz 116 goes above and beyond in terms of onboard space maximisation. Working with renowned Italian superyacht designer Giorgio Cassetta, and esteemed British naval architecture firm Laurent Giles , Alpha Yachts has created a yacht with both a sophisticated interior and a spacious, lavish exterior. According to Denison: ‘like many Alpha yachts, the interior of this yacht prioritises comfort without compromising personal space.’ 

Spritz 116’s outdoor decks include numerous lounging areas. The aft deck not only features a grand outdoor lounge, but also boasts a hydraulically operated platform to support a tender, a large plunge pool that can transform into a teak dancefloor, and a spacious and sociable open-air dining area for up to 12 guests, something unusual for a yacht of this size. On the foredeck, guests are greeted by another relaxing outdoor lounge space, and on the 100 sqm flybridge, panoramic views await her guests. 

Inside, expansive windows showcase water and sky views from the comfortable saloon, with the impressive visibility continuing in the master cabin thanks to the oversized windows less than half a metre from the water. Giorgio Cassetta commented on the master suite's unique quality: ‘it gives you the feeling of being on the main deck.’

Another highlight of work that Alpha Yachts produce, is that an owner has full autonomy on the customisation of their vessel. Specific custom features can be added and the entire design can be adapted with the shipyard to create, according to Denison,  ‘the yacht of your dreams.'

A key feature for both Spritz 116 and all of Alpha Yachts’ designs is the notion to build vessels with shared space and family in mind. Cassetta highlighted: ‘Everything is home-sized, which is what I love. It’s the standard you’d expect on a 45- or 50-meter yacht.’ 

Spritz 116 has a wide moulded beam of 8.4m and a shallow draft of 1.9m at full load. Her gross tonnage is approximately 260. Shown in the above renderings with a white exterior, the new 35.5m design also comes in a luxurious dark blue exterior finish. 

The first Spritz 116 is currently under construction and is due to be delivered in 2023; we can’t wait to see her on the water.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
