Our team large experience comes from BD (Barcos Deportivos) Shipyard specialized in superyachts, and therefore with great knowledge and experience in the construction of great products quality.

This shipyard was dedicated to the development of superyachts, (vessels of more than 24 meters length) and maximum quality, so-called "One off", because each one is unique and special for the client. It was set up over twenty years ago and has achieved an unbeatable position in the global market, placed near Barcelona, Spain, as a cradle of great experience and potential.

Currently, the company and his collaborators have maintained the know-how, doing more activity of repair and manufacture of smaller units, with lower risk and greater marketing, which has kept professionals and expertise in the area.

We have built sailing boats in high technology such as SYL (German Frers, 143'), mastered with both steel and aluminum and awarded with The Most Innovative Sailing Yacht by Showboats International in Monaco the 2004. Another example is the Fortuny (German Frers, 80') that was manufactured with composite materials like fiber or carbon.

Furthermore, we should point out to the manufacturers of these superyachts, the consolidation of the expertise in Spain on the construction of the TP 52 Quantum and similar for the BMW Oracle team.

Given the nature of the tasks covered in this project, is essential to have professionals specialized in different areas; the ones whose solvency is very difficult to bring together in a single company or partner.

This is the reason why we decided to create these alliances that were allowing to have the guarantee of the quality and performance in an innovative project, but at the same time ensuring the future process of production, with an outline design, work and operation ready for growing.

Winner of the 2009 MYDA (Millenium Yacht Design Award), the 16.66 by 4.5 meter yacht’s decisive charisma and styling emphasize her hybrid capacities, with an entirely glass enclosed superstructure that blends in perfectly with her streamlined high performance sportive styling. Vacuum built in vinylester resin, the BD56 features a retractable keel (from a 3.5 meter to a 2.1 meter draft), carbon fiber mast, roller furling mainsail and self tacking jib. Thanks to her sail plan and hull shape, optimized by the latest software solutions, the BD56 is capable of excellent speed under sail, enough to satisfy the most demanding racers. The deck layout is clean and ergonomic, with twin wheels bringing all controls to hand, easing crew work and guaranteeing safety for all her guests.

Under Power

If the wind doesn’t show or if a storm does, and it’s time to rapidly get back to harbor, the BD56 quickly transforms into a fast motor yacht. With a safe and comfortable top speed of 21 knots, the two outboard motors not only increase performance at sea, but they also increase available interior volume and allow further options for interior layouts to satisfy the needs of her owner.

Safe, Simple and Easy to Handle

The BD56 is very easy to sail, yet this simplicity comes with no sacrifice in performance. Even less experienced sailors may sail her without difficulty. The in-boom roller reefing mainsail allows for easy reefing and lowering of the powerful mainsail, as does the roller furling for the self-tacking jib. With her electric winches and retractable motors, sailing a BD56 is no more difficult than playing with a toy. These unique features enable the BD56 to fly over the water even in the lightest breeze.

When sailing downwind, the gennaker will quickly bring the BD56 onto a stable plane, providing fresh emotions even to experienced sailors. The twin outboard engines, controlled by means of a multifunction joystick, guarantee excellent maneuverability, even for those with limited experience. Designed and produced in compliance to European Community standards, the BD56 has been certified by HPI, a leading British yacht certification company. Their strict protocols for fuel use and storage with outboard motors maximize safety even in the most extreme weather conditions.

Design and Layout

The bright and scenic salon, at the same level as the cockpit, is the heart of the BD56. Thanks to electrically commanded overheads, doors and crystal walls, from the salon you can enjoy your view of the sea in any weather, with a 360° panorama. The layout, designed around the concepts of light, comfort and contact with the open air, foresees three twin berth cabins, each with its own bathroom – and two with separate showers. All the cabins are spacious and filled with light, with excellent headroom. The master cabin is forward and has a breathtaking view thanks to windows that stretch down to the waterline. But it is always the client who has the final say in choosing their favorite layout, with finishings and materials (including the engines) to give them a unique vessel that reflects 100% of their personality.

BD 56: SUV of the Sea

BD Yachts in Barcelona, Spain, is showing off these renderings for its BD56 “seagoing SUV” crossover design that combines the best elements of power and sail.

The BD56 has a glass-enclosed superstructure, a carbon-fiber mast and a retractable keel that reduces her draft from just over 11 feet to less than 7 feet. Under power, her top speed is expected to be 21 knots. (Engine configurations were not released.)

The main-deck salon is on the same level as the cockpit, with electric overheads, doors and walls that open to create 360-degree views. In the master stateroom, the builder says, windows extend fully to the yacht’s waterline.

Spanish shipyard BD Yachts has unveiled BD56, a 16.6m (54ft) designed to run under power of both motor and sails. With a beam of 4.5m, the BD56 is environmentally friendly, easy to handle even while shorthanded and with seakeeping qualities, the builder claims.

Commenting on the project, Jordi Bisbe, CEO of BD Yachts, says: “The change in owner’s habits – their love of the sea and everything that’s connected to it, the silence, independence, the pleasure of fishing, but at the same time the lack of free time, typical of today’s society – has brought us to develop a new concept in a sailing yacht that, thanks to modern technology, lets everyone live their passions to the full. For those who can’t take month long vacations, the BD56 is the ideal yacht.”

Vacuum built in vinylester resin, the BD56 features a retractable keel (from a 3.5m to a 2.1 draft), carbon fibre mast, roller furling mainsail and self-tacking jib.

Equipped with two 300hp outboard motors, the BD56 quickly transforms into a motoryacht able to reach top speed of 21 knots. The engines not only increase performance at sea, but also increase available interior volume and allow further options for interior layouts.

Her hull is built with fibre E glass with PVC foam and vinylester resin by vacuum infusion, with gel-coat finishing.

BD56 motor sailer promises the best of both worlds

Spanish yard BD Yachts has released designs for a 54ft motor sailer that would be capable of 21 knots under power

BD Yachts has revealed its design for a 54ft motor sailer aimed at a “new generation of expert and demanding owners who have no use for stereotypes”.

Despite its sailboat styling, the BD56 has sufficient power to be considered a motor boat, with up to 2x300hp outboards available with joystick control.

This means a maximum speed of 21 knots when the wind drops, giving owners the thrill of sailing as well as the comfort and speed of motor boating.

Key features include a carbon fibre mast, roller furling mainsail, self-tacking jib, twin wheel deck layout, and a retractable keel that can reduce the draught from 3.5m to 2.1m.

What’s more the amount of glass in the superstructure gives the kind of bright and airy interior that you might expect from a sportscruiser.

BD Yachts also has a 40ft model in development, although that design is limited to blueprints for now.

Prices and launch dates for the BD56 have not yet been confirmed, but BD Yachts says that the motor sailer will come backed up by a five-year guarantee.

BD56, A SAILING YACHT PROVIDED WITH OUTBOARDS. THE REASONS OF THIS CHOICE

We talked about BD56 when we had its first renderings and information last February. It’s a sailing-motor boat, (16.62 metres long) which can reach 21 knots thanks to two 350 HP outboards. It will be produced by BD Yachts and designed by  BYDGROUP. The most interesting and innovative technical aspect concerns engines.

The shipbuilder has decided to use outboards because “any inboard propulsion systems available on the market didn’t prove to be efficient for our particular project. High thrust propellers would have been good to obtain high speeds but there isn’t a model with foldable wings to reduce resistance and friction when the boat is used as a sailing boat. So, we studied some retractable propellers but it was an expensive and  technically difficult solution which would have created some problems in terms of long-term reliability”.

For this particular yacht, BYDGROUP was looking for  an efficient cheap propulsion system  which was easy to use, with a good weigth/power ration and able to reduce friction of propeller-holder axis, struts and blades. The result? ” Classical outboards! Thanks to the possibility to have a push with a zero-degree-angle against DWL, the momentum applied by the propeller is the same than the conventional one of an axle line. Moreover, the possibility to change the angle of the pushing line means greater efficiency”.

Outboards will be hidden in the transom under the deck, in a ventilated space, big enough to raise them when they are not used. You can use a  200 hp outboard  (maximum speed: 11.5 knots) or  two 350 hp motors  (maximum speed: 21 knots). 

In order to study and analyze the performances of the boat, in both modalities “sailing” and “motor”, BD YACHTS and BYDGROUP used a series of  computational fluide-dynamic data  : they drew over 20 different hull models and configurations and they tested them in a virtual naval pool, where they simulated the real weather-marine conditions. These calculations were made by  Cape Horn Engineering  (CHE), a specialized and worldwide-known team, which has optimized some projects of Volvo Ocean Race and American Cup ( Ben Ainslie, for example, is a customer of theirs). 

But how much will this cost? Given that BD56 is a unique yacht, totally tailored, its price will be different according to the different cases but it will generally have a 5-year-warranty and a complete maintenance service and it will cost about  2.2 million Euros.  Delivery times for the first unit are  15 months.

Woman charged after allegedly crashing car into birthday party, killing 2 young kids

An 8-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother were killed in Saturday's crash.

A woman is facing second-degree murder charges after she allegedly drove into a child's birthday party in Michigan, killing two children and injuring several others, officials said.

Marshella Chidester, 66, allegedly struck a building at the Swan Creek Boat Club in Newport Saturday afternoon, and her car came to rest about 25 feet inside the building, according to the sheriff and prosecutors.

An 8-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother were killed, Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffery Yorkey said.

The victims' mother and 11-year-old brother suffered serious injuries, Yorkey said.

A 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman also suffered serious injuries, the prosecutor said.

"They walked into that birthday party having a fun time. They were sitting at that table eating, and this woman crashed her car through this building, destroying all of our lives," the aunt of the 8-year-old and 4-year-old victims told reporters on Tuesday.

"I had to be the one to tell my sister her babies were gone," the aunt said through tears. "She said, 'How am I supposed to live without my babies?'"

"My nephew and my sister are still fighting for their lives," she added.

Childester is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death and four counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, Yorkey said.

Chidester was arraigned on Tuesday and is due to return to court on April 30.
