Angelo owner of Blue Marlin is someone you can trust to be straight forward, knowledgeable, reliable and helpful. He is a great business owner who goes out of his way to help make your experience extremely favorable. Luci, his office manager handles your transaction with ease, helping with each step of the process...she's thorough, efficient & accommodating. We are so glad that we dealt with Blue Marlin and will continue to for service, lead by capable Frank, as well! Kudos to Angelo and team, folks you can trust!

Tidewater quality went way down hill and customer service is the worst. Several TW owner i have spoken too says the same thing.

To say that Blue Marlin Boats has a group of professionals is an understatement. From the moment I met Angelo at the boat show I was treated as family.  Angelo is very personable with a great deal of knowledge and understanding and knew exactly what I was looking for and went out of his way to find it for me. This has been an excellent experience. I highly recommend Blue Marlin Boats. Thanks Angelo.

Luci & Angelo are great folks. They have a wonderful establishment and they treat their customers like friends. We went in looking to buy used and ended up buying new because their prices are very reasonable. Their post sale support is excellent as well. 77m New-Build Admiral Motor Yacht Blue Marlin Sold

A new 77 metre motor yacht code-named Project Blue Marlin has been sold by Imperial Yachts.

Designed by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design , Project Blue Marlin will be built in aluminium by The Italian Sea Group and is scheduled for delivery in 2023 as the latest in the yard’s Admiral series.  Imperial will act as owner’s representative and build supervisor throughout the construction process.

Key highlights about the project include diesel/electric propulsion, a six-metre pool, spa, dive area, gym and a helipad. The large interior accommodates 12 guests in a six-cabin layout comprising a master suite on the main deck forward, a VIP suite on the bridge deck next to the full-beam living area, and four guest cabins on the lower deck.

“With the remarkable reputation of Imperial and Sinot Design we are sure to achieve the best possible results for the client’s satisfaction.” says Giuseppe Taranto of The Italian Sea Group. “We took a very flexible approach as we are convinced that customising a product and the attention to every detail is the key to the relationship with an owner. For this issue’s local boat review, we are focusing on Blue Marlin Boats, located in Long Island’s Nassau County in Seaford, NY and their top fishing boat brand, Tidewater Boats.

In 2006 Tidewater Boats began with a dream to create the best boat value for the money. Drawing upon decades of boat building experience gleaned in the South Carolina boat building business, combined with tapping into the local populace of skilled marine craftsmen, 12-years later, Tidewater has developed into one of the fastest growing, most popular saltwater boats in the industry. Born in the Midlands of South Carolina where manufacturing quality coastal sportfishing boats is a staple of the economy, Tidewater has historically utilized the best materials and the skilled labor to produce a boat that’s worthy of proud ownership.

The queen of the Tidewater fleet, the 320 Adventure Series 320 center console, is the subject of this week’s review. I was able to jump aboard this sportfisher at Blue Marline Boats’ Seaford, NY showroom and spent some time getting to know her up close and personal from stem to stern.

At first glance, the most obvious features of this Carolina girl are her generous raised bow sections, wide forward flare and broken sheer line, all of which are signature elements of boats built in the coastal Carolina areas for running their treacherous inlets. Her wide shape forward tapers back to more sleek lines aft of the helm, terminating in a working cockpit that is just the right height to enhance fishing functionality and crew safety.

Standard fishing features on the Tidewater 320 CC are a nautical mile long and include a quartet of gunwale mounted flush rodholders with room for at least four more; a six-pack of flush mount rodholders set in the transom cap; a trio of horizontal rod racks under each gunwale, with stainless steel toe rails for added security for angler and crew when wrestling the big ones to boatside; twin rocket launchers set abaft of the leaning post with five rodholders on the lower level and a half-dozen on level two; a rigging station with a freshwater sink, 20-gallon recirculating livewell and tackle storage drawers set in the aft of the leaning post, which also includes twin cushioned bolster seating with up/down lumbar support when traveling in the stand-up position; a second 20-gallon live well set in the starboard transom corner; plus a pair of macerated 41-gallon fishboxes positioned under the cockpit sole on either side of the leaning post. There’s a convenient swing-in door set in the starboard side aft, with a second entry/egress point via a tuna door in the port corner for access to the swim platform. Heavily cushioned cockpit bolsters fore and aft are supported by 27-inches of cockpit depth aft and amidships, with 37-inches forward, enhancing crew comfort and safety.

Family Friendly Features

When the fish aren’t biting or when it’s time to entertain family and friends at your favorite watering hole or private beach, the Tidewater 320 CC shifts gears easily and can deliver performance equal to her angling prowess for a quiet day at the beach. Notable comfort features include a twin cushioned lounge set forward of the console that is the perfect spot to relax and work on your tan while getting your daily dose of vitamin D. A built-in insulated cooler will chill out the beverages of the day in a perfect spot that is close at hand, yet out from underfoot. Stepping down into the console’s cabin area via a port side companionway, standard accommodations include a freshwater sink, marine head with holding tank, plus a double wide berth that extends forward that is the perfect spot to catch a power nap in between fishing frenzies or for the family to get out a wet bath suit and into something more comfortable. There’s also access to the panel wiring and battery switches down under, with some convenient dry storage too.

Heading back topsides, the double-wide bench seat in the transom bulkhead folds up easily when it’s time to fish, plus twin split bench seating forward includes an insulated 28-gallon storage box down below, with cushions, backrests and an electric/hydraulic table that cycles up from the sole when it’s time for cocktails and appetizers back at dockside. The two-level, 24-switch, 12-volt DC accessory panel is rigged with waterproof circuit breakers and will handle all of your operational needs. There’s room to mount a pair of 15-inch multi-function displays at the helm’s dash panel, with convenient lockable storage bins for your phone, wallet, sunglasses, etc.

Performance Matters

The Tidewater 320 CC is available with a variety of factory-rigged Yamaha or Mercury four-strokes. She can also be pre-rigged with Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude and Honda gauges and controls for outboard installation at your dealer of choice. The boat that I had a chance to review was pre-rigged with a pair of Yamaha F350C V-8 four-strokes, with the total horse power reaching her max rating of 700 sea ponies. According to factory tests with two crew aboard and 210 gallons of fuel in her 290-gallon capacity tank, this sportfisher hit a scintillating top speed of 59-mph, spinning 15.5 x 19 counter-rotating Saltwater Series XL stainless steel 3-blade props. Dialing it back to more sedate throttle settings, the 320CC achieved its best fuel efficiency numbers at 3500 rpm, where she hit 31.4-mph on the GPS navigator while consuming 21-gph, for a net of 1.5-mpg. If you need to get to the fish fast, bumping up the twin throttles to four-grand will advance the cruising speed to 37.4-mph at 26.1-gph, for a bottom line of 1.43-mpg. Ramping it up to 4500 rpm will jump the cruising speed to 42.5-mph, while drinking 32.2-gph, for a bottom line of 1.32-mpg. That’s a fairly predictable speed band that, depending on sea conditions and your need to get from point A to point B, gives the operator some interesting options when managing range vs speed.

The Tidewater’s 290-gallon fuel cell affords her approximately 12-hours of cruising range with a 10% reserve when operating at optimum levels, which is more than enough to head out to the 100-fathom line to drop your lines where the big ones call home. The 320 CC’s deep-vee forefoot tapers back to 22-degrees of deadrise at the transom and will allow you to tame the usually temperamental coastal and offshore seas in your area.

Taking the Lead on a Viking Yacht at the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

The first hour of the first day of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament was more eventful than anyone had anticipated. Angler and Bluewater principal Earle Hall aboard the Viking 62 Convertible demo captained by Viking’s Brian Komer hooked a fish less than 20 minutes after “lines in” was called over the radio. After a short 40 minute fight, a massive blue marlin with a fork length of approximately 128 inches was hefted into the cockpit of the brand new Viking. Without delay, the captain and crew decided to return to Big Rock Landing to have their prize weighed, and proceeded to put miles behind them with the potent twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT’s churning out over 1,900 horsepower each.

With news spreading across Big Rock radio and throughout social media of this promising boated blue, crowds began gathering at the weigh station of the newly-refitted Big Rock landing in Morehead City. As the one o’clock hour approached, the Viking 62 could be seen entering the inlet. Excitement built as the brand new Viking rounded the dock – a boat which had only launched four days prior to this first day of fishing in the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.

Dock lines were fastened and the coverings in the cockpit were removed to expose a massive blue marlin of considerable girth. She was hoisted out of the transom as the entire crowd lay silent. The weighmaster shouted out, “680!” and the crowd erupted into cheers as Earle Hall and fellow Bluewater and Viking crew members jumped for joy and celebrated with handshakes and hugs.

Setting the bar high on the first day did little to deter the optimism of the 149 boats fishing the 57th Annual Big Rock tournament – although a blustery day with rough sea conditions on Day 2 kept all but 4 boats at the docks – the action was hot each day with plenty of releases and several more blue marlin boated. Although, as of Day 4, none were big enough to unseat the 680 pound giant reeled in by Earle Hall and the crew aboard the Viking 62 demo.

Bluewater Sales Professionals Clark Sneed and Mark Connors were also fishing on the Viking 62 demo when this 680 pound blue was landed, and Mark Connors exclaims, “We only got to fish for 18 minutes but it was an incredible day nevertheless.”

This monster of a blue marlin held to the leaderboard strong for all six days of fishing during the tournament bringing a solid victory to the Bluewater team aboard the Viking 62 demo for all of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. Viking’s Captain Brian Komer along with his mates and Bluewater’s Earle Hall, Clark Sneed, Mark Connors and Scott James were present at the Big Rock awards ceremony to accept their oversized prize check totaling $560,500. The Bluewater family shares in the Big Rock Tournament’s motto of “Charity First” and plan to donate a portion of their tournament winnings to charity and local causes. A warm congratulations to Earle Hall and the Bluewater team for landing an impressive blue marlin and taking home first place in the 57th Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament!

Meet Earle Hall

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who’s been involved in more aspects of the marine industry than Earle Hall. His resume—spanning more than four decades—includes hydroplane racing champion, tournament winner, and leader of Bluewater Yacht Sales, one of the most ­successful yacht brokerages in the world. He built, sold and refit countless boats at Bluewater until his departure at the sale of the business; these days, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Denise, and assisting with his son’s auto-racing teams and his daughter’s horse-jumping competitions, all while setting his sights on the next endeavor in an already fulfilling career.

Q: At one time you were a winning hydroplane racer—how did that come about?

A: That was about a 30-year career that led me to the big unlimited hydroplanes, going 200 miles an hour with a single driver. I ran one of the boats that competed against Miss Budweiser . I started racing little outboard boats at about 14, and I was fortunate to be born in Portsmouth, Virginia, which is the boat-racing equivalent of Palm Beach for sport fishing. I met a man named Henry Lauterbach, and I was a real student of his. He was just a tremendous craftsman and innovator, and an all-around great guy. And so many years later, we started developing the boatyards. The foundation of the mindset was born in that boat race shop of Henry’s: quality, innovation, and finding ways to do things better. That set the stage for my passion. As our racing success grew, we did pretty well. We had a period where we won seven world and national titles within a three-year span, with both speed records and race wins.

Q: It sounds like the racing gene was passed on to your son, Connor.

A: He came up through the ranks with go-karts and Legends cars, and that moved him into NASCAR Late Models. I’ve been involved in professional ­motorsports for so long, I just thrive on it. Our customers always told me that I picked three really great sports: fishing for myself, NASCAR for my son, and my daughter, Kelsea, jumps horses. There’s no rest for the weary, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Q: How did you transition from boat racing to Bluewater Yacht Sales?

A: My brother started Bluewater in 1968, and I was still a young guy back then, so when I got out of school, it was pretty obvious that it was my career path. I raced and worked at Bluewater at the same time. It actually started as a sailboat dealership, but after we bought a boatyard, we began the transition to powerboats. By the mid-1980s we were 100 percent powerboats. But the real springboard to our success was when I got a call from a young guy working in the warranty department at Viking Yacht Company named Pat Healey. I headed up our service department at the time, and so we were doing warranty work on Vikings when he asked, “Why don’t you sell our boats?” That marriage started in 1985 and is still rock-solid today. A big part of it was because we all fished hard, and that helped them build better fishing boats. To this day, I believe the Viking demo program is what really sets them so far ahead of the rest of the industry. And that’s not taking anything away from the custom world. I love custom boats a lot, but the engineering that goes into a Viking is just second to none. They’ve got more people in the engineering department than most custom builders have total employees.

Q: What aspects of the brokerage job still got you excited after all those years?

A: There is competition even in that part of the business. That’s the same competition as in racing, and in fishing. To be part of the process and help see someone’s dream become a reality, that still gets my heart going. No matter how long you do it or how many boats you deliver, they’re still all like little babies—part of the family.

Q: You led the refit project on Knot Done Yet for Perry Nichols —what was it like making that boat functional and fishable for someone with muscular dystrophy?

A: That was one of the most rewarding things that I’ve ever done in my life. And out of that came a fabulous friendship. That guy is one solid dude. I didn’t have any idea that someone in that tough of a physical condition could think they could do what he’s done, but when I left his office after our first meeting, I was convinced that he could. The first project we did was a major refit on a 64 Viking. Perry liked it and decided he wanted to go new and bigger. We learned a lot in that first rebuild, and that made building the new 72 Viking much more efficient. Instead of customizing things on the 64, we could start with a clean slate and engineer things into the 72 the way we wanted. Perry didn’t want a boat that looked like it was for a person with disabilities. He just wanted to be one of the guys, and now he is. Few people, if any, I’ve ever fished with are tougher than he is in the cockpit. He doesn’t care whether it’s rough, blowing, rain, lightning, whatever—he’s there.

Q: If you could take one boat to any place you wanted, what would it be and where would you go?

A: Hands down the boat would be a 72 Viking. It’s got the speed, the agility and the comfort. That’s the easy answer. The hard question would be where to go. I’d like to go where the big fish live. I’ve been talking about putting together a trip to Cape Verde with my friend Sam Peters sometime soon. I’d rather go see monsters than stack up numbers.

Q: What moments in your sport-fishing career stand out the most?

A: It goes without saying that winning the Big Rock was cool. But I’ve fished for so long, the stories are endless. Two years ago, we took my daughter, Kelsea, out for her birthday. Kelsea, my wife and I caught a triple of white marlin at the same time on her birthday—a family triple. Days where you have something crazy happen, or have friends and family on the boat, are the ones that really stick out.

Q: It sounds like you’ve been busy since Bluewater was sold, but what’s it been like leaving a business that you were in for so long?

A: It’s been difficult. You get up every day for 40 years, and then your routine suddenly changes. For the first two or three months, I was a ship without a rudder, and I probably wasn’t the easiest guy in the world to live with. I really, really miss my people. We’d put together such a great team of craftsmen in the boatyards, and such a great sales and support staff. And I miss the customers. Helping people realize their dream is cool. It makes you feel good that you’ve developed that trust. I said this word so much that the staff was probably sick of it, but the success of the company was solely due to all those relationships we built over the years.
